KPRC reporter Aaron Wilson joins Next Up as the Houston Texans conclude their final practice in Ohio before traveling to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday. Many starters did not participate in practice, including Stefon Diggs, who left the field early Tuesday after a collision. "It's mostly a day off for [Diggs]," but the Texans "are missing a lot of guys," Wilson said. Linebacker Christian Harris has been dealing with a soft-tissue leg injury and is "not going to be back until late in the preseason." While others have been dealing with injuries, rookies like safety Calen Bullock and cornerback Kamari Lassiter have been able to stand out. "It's a matter of when, not if, Calen Bullock becomes a starter." The starters for the Texans are expected to take the field for their second preseason matchup, including the star quarterback. "C.J. [Stroud] is planning to play."

Speaker 1 (00:00):
A man that is always on his stuff. He is
analysts and insider and a Fishonado well connected. Is the
great Aaron Wilson live from what is this thing called
Huntington Valley, Ohio, Texans training camp practice at thirteen final
practice in Ohio before they make the way over to Pittsburgh.
Good morning to you, Aaron. What are you seeing in

(00:21):
here and out there thus far?

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Good morning? I would say what I've been seeing is
some pretty Chris practices on a very nice high school campus,
the university school, the alma mater of Nick Casserio. Also
John Carroll University guy nearby Division three powerhouse where he
was the quarterback. The guys, you know you have nothing serious,

(00:44):
but you do have a large a man. If I
saw the injury report, I tweeted earlier, so I just
Howard got damned yesterday. We already have Laramie Tunsil still
ramping up, so you've got backup tackles, and it's Blake's
Fisher and Nick Broker out there there a little bit
sim and Irving working in. You know you're missing seven

(01:04):
diggs he got if he finished the practice. I think
it's mostly the day off for him. He looks fine.
It's just a lot of guys so missing a term
of starters, and so he backups like Revin Norton. I
would imagine a lot of them will be back when
we get back to Houston for the regular portion of
training camp. But for right now here in Ohio Chagrin Falls,

(01:27):
it's a kind of makeshift crew. But the funniest starters
still to watch. And yesterday was the defense to day.
Derrick Stelling Junior dominant. He had an interception for a
pick six. He had another who took away from Nico Collins,
both against c. J. Strauss. So Stingley looking very good.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
Yeah, I saw that Stingley appeared to be all over
the field. Sound like you know, the offense had gotten
the best of the defense, and I appreciate you adding
the insight there. For me, it's about bodies, you know.
I'm still in not seeing Christian Harris on the practice field.
I think this is now Will Anderson Junior's second practice.
He has missed, Kamar Lassiter are still not practicing. What

(02:10):
can you tell us on the defensive side of the ball.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Okay, so well here on defense, Christian Harris injured his
hamstring very early in camp and he is I'm tearing,
not going to be back until late in the preseason.
They still feel like they can get him ready for
the Colts game, so he'd going to miss the majority
of the preseason. And Joe Mixon is still not back
from the quad. Tomario last Years also has a soft

(02:36):
issue injury, believe it to hamstring as well, so he's
out right now. Will Anderson Junior, I'm told it's nothing serious.
They did get the new hunter back, but Danil had
just missed one day, but for Will now it's up
to three days. And it's the same thing for Desmond
King not being out there, missing all these practices. And

(02:59):
you know they had a couple of guys back to
the concussions, like Jake Hansen and Bonnie Johnson Junior. They're
still working through the protocol, but they are missing a
lot of guys. Kim Sttle Junior hasn't practiced for a
long time. We'll stand out here. But it's a long
camp and it's a long time to the season, and
the emphasis is then that everyone will be ready for

(03:20):
the regular season. Of course, they don't give out a
lot of information. I have a few ones like te
and coach Anal Strangers Cat blantro fasciitis is what Charlie
Heck's dealing with. You know, we know some of them,
don't know all of them. No, but in the regular
season there will be an injury report and be interesting
to see how many guys are on there. The Wednesday
before the Colts game.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Aaron Wilson. He is live in Ohio at the Texans
morning and final practice there before they make their way
tomorrow over to Pittsburgh for preseason game number one on Friday.
If that offensive line, let's just say Titus doesn't go
on Friday, and clearly Lamby Tom is not going to
play on Friday? Are you cool or not? You? I

(04:03):
don't want to put that in. Do you still believe
Demiko would put CJ. Stroud out there behind tackles number
three and five if that's what happens to be available
to him.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Blake Fisher and Nick Broker, Do you risk it? If
it's Blake Fisher and Nick Broker against the Steelers one
and they asked some good ones like t. J. Watt
et cetera. Yeah, you could. You could go quick game
and hand off, but you know you want to he
wants to start us to play a little bit. I
don't know if he'll debate from the plan he I mean,

(04:38):
he was the volunteer that the other day that wasn't
even a real specific question, so this time he said it.
My understanding is CJ is planning to play, and now
I'm wondering will to step on Diggs play because you know,
he got hit by Jimmy Ward again. They got tangled
up and he went to the ground well to get up.

(04:59):
But it's yeah, so now he's not practicing. He seems fine.
It doesn't seem like being serious. Couldn't you have a
day off and then playing the game. We're gonna find out,
but yeah, I doubt if they make any real announcements.
That's just for I guess for gamesmanship, competitive, whatever reasons.
They don't exchoose to do that. That's their right. They
don't have to do injury reports during the preseason. But

(05:23):
that doesn't mean we can't try to find out, you know,
what's gonna happen. Did that the other night with you know,
like line up, Like a lot of people assume Damian
Pierce is playing with Jacksons, find out he's not playing.
Kamara last year was held out and I don't think
that was due to injury. I think he was just
held out of the game. But he's got something going on,
and I think it's soft tissue. I'm hearing is it's
nothing big, it's nothing structural. So they don't have anyone

(05:46):
that's like hurt bad. It's just they're just missing a
lot of time.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Yeah, and you know that old thing about time. Let's
think about I read good things about Kylen Bullock. Clearly,
I thought he was the best defender on the field
for the Texans and limited sample size on Thursday Night
and Canton versus the Bears, he continues to make plays
in practice. I think he made another big play. Sounds

(06:13):
like or it seems like once a day, Kaylen Bullock
is flashing. We expecting to see Kaylen Bullock. Can this
young rookie earn legitimate minutes back then in the secondary
this year?

Speaker 2 (06:22):
And he just has to keep that up by him
five tackles, good timing on the force tumble. I'm not
worried about the celebration. Coach that stay alert after you
make a had you know the ball comes. That's fine.
I'd rather see someone at least that can make that hit,
and he can, and that was the knock on him.

(06:44):
Is he he physical enough? We already use range. He
had nine interceptions at USC and krom Ronnie used to
play corner. He's a very leggy, athletic, rangy guy. I
think he has high upside. I think Eric Murdin would
make less than sticks though right now. So you know,
you have to be so much judicious about when do

(07:04):
you insert the rookies. But I think it's a matter
of when, not if Camin Bullocks becomes a starter. And
last time I checked, Justin Simmons is in New Orleans
today working out and the Texans did not offer him
and did not work him out. So we'll see how

(07:24):
it develops. Right now, they told us yesterrid In Matt
Birth that evens coordinated, we really like our safety or
sounds like they do.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Yeah, I would say if they haven't offered Simmons a contract,
with Quadra Diggs signing with the rival Tennessee Titans and
Bullock playing the way that the years I choose to
read those tea leaves the way that you read it
as well. All right, a doges, we're up against the brother.
Thank you for a quick training camp update. We'll continue
to monitor your social media for everything that has taking
place there. Practice thirteen. They're in Huntington Valley, Ohio. Alma

(07:57):
mater of one Nick Cassario, the Universe Varsity School. He
is at Aaron Wilson Underscore nfl our Texans inside of
here on seven ninety. We appreciate it, Bubble. We'll let
you get back to it.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
