Speaker 1 (00:02):
Now what's next? Next stop?

Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's the man up, next stop, the next step, take
the next step, next up, next stop, next, next up.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
This This is next up with ten Norfleet ten Chris Gordy.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Let's see what's next, next, next, what's happ everybody?

Speaker 4 (00:24):
Welcome into Next Up Here on Sports Talk seven, I
Chris Gordy here with you, Stan norfully in along the
way as we get ready to talk all things Houston
sports on What's Today? Stay Wednesday, Thursday. I'm awesome today,
starty Thursday. We got football tonight. We had rocket season
get underway last night. Oh Rockets, what are you doing?

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Looking great for.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
About a half in a quarter and then suddenly blah,
had some people dming our station account this morning going
same old Rockets.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Come on, guys, rough.

Speaker 4 (01:08):
We'll get into some Texans talk as well as we
get ever so closer to this Colts game where it's interesting.
Earlier in the week, I think the perspective was, ah, yeah,
easy one this week, and now as the week goes along,
I hear more and more people saying this one's kind
of scaring me a little bit. We'll get into that
and much more conversation. We got NFL game tonight Minnesota

(01:31):
at the Rams, and that's only relevant because all the
Rams have been one of the best teams in the NFC,
or rather, the Vikings and Rams are struggling at two
and four and sounded like they're sellers shopping Cooper Cup.
And there was rumors of a Matthew Stafford potential trade
and all kinds of stuff out there. So I'll get

(01:52):
into that. Getting plenty of more Texans conversation. I'm sorry,
Aaron Wilson dropped a piece this morning on why the
Texans signed Devin White. We'll get into a little bit
more on that. Good morning, Stan, Welcome in, uh, gentlemen.
Freaking rockets man.

Speaker 5 (02:07):
Yeah, Fleet was in the building last night, twenty twenty
four to twenty five. Rocket season underway over at the TC. Obviously,
my native Charlotte Hornets were in town and Rockets essentially
through three quarters, mostly cruise control. A lot of guys
chunking up shots. Here's looking at you, Jalen Green and

(02:31):
Fred Van Vliet. To some degree, something.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
Got too comfortable, like they were like, oh, we got this,
That's all I felt. After I'm like, yeah, whatever, the
Hornets suck.

Speaker 5 (02:39):
I kept they I think it was the start of
the third quarter. I looked at the scoreboard coming from
the concessions and I told my guy Howard was in
there with me, and I was like, Yo, this is
way too close for the Hornets to be that bad.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yeah, when you.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
Got some dude Trey Man out there looking like Steph
Curry and then there's Seth Curry off the bench, and
then here comes LaMelo Ball in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Trey Man's got the Iverson thing going. Yeah, that jersey
was oversided.

Speaker 5 (03:11):
He looked like a bad aau, Like, what are you
doing out there with that big ass jersey?

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Trey Man sec guy, by the way, played at Florida,
and know they talked about on the broadcast. They said
he he idolized Alan Iverson, so that's what he tries
to kind of look like him. But when they cut
the nine, I went, oh, they believe they can win Charlotte.
They're like, oh, He've closed this thing, and.

Speaker 5 (03:34):
So what's going through my head also is I remember
Week one or Game one last season, Rockets go to
Orlando and get obliterated by thirty And I remember leaving
that going Okay, he made Doker's first game. Maybe some
Jitters all of those things. Last night, I'm going, wait
a minute, everybody's on the floor except Steven Adams. Why

(03:57):
are they letting a Hornets team without one of their
better players, Mark Williams. And I also wanted to see
who got better. Jalen looked the same to me. There
was some good, there was some bad. Jabari Smith Jr.
Looked the same to me. I look at alfren shing gun.
He's gonna get down there in the post. He's gonna

(04:17):
try and eurostep, pivot, pivot, pivot, and if you hold
your ground.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
He's got a kick him on fire. Early, I mean
he was.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
They were like, he's having the greatest, you know, first
quarter he's ever had, greatest first one of the greatest
first halfs he's ever had. And then and it was
like that's that second half. They couldn't buy shots and
then they get out rebound. You said it, you know,
one player out, Steven Adams. Steven Adams would have helped
last night.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
But they did.

Speaker 5 (04:39):
They out rebounded the Rockets without Mark Winias for the Hornets.
So Nick Richards is a nick. Nick Richards is a
big is a good player. Why I shouldn't say that,
Nick Richards is a big body player, but he shouldn't
be out rebounded. Jabari Smith Jr. And Alfreyn Sheing gun
down there on the boards. I wanted to see Reeve Sheppard.
He gave me nothing.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
Well, he got hurt at one point he had a
wrap around his mid section and I wondered if she
was gonna come back in. And he did come back in,
but yeah, had a couple turnovers, and you know it
just everybody.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
It was like they got out to the early lead.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
Everybody was feeling themselves, got a little too cocky and confident.
And I'm watching Fred van vliet Bricka every three, Jalen
green Brook every three, and I'm like, guys, stop taking
the threes, Like let's just attack the rib, go to
the bucket and get points.

Speaker 5 (05:27):
The three point line was not kind. The Rockets would
get outscored in quarter three by seven. They would get
outscored in quarter four by nine. Lamellow ball in the
fourth quarter, especially down the stretch, was money going to
the free throw line. Iicing some things out. The Rockets
would surrender an eighteen point lead. The Charlotte Hornets bench

(05:48):
outscored the Rockets bench. You know, all that continuity that
we talked about coming into the season forty six to
twenty eight.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
It's just ridiculous.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
And Charlotte had doubled the turnovers then he was the
had Houston had twenty six points off those turnovers. And nonetheless,
LaMelo balls thirty four points, eleven assists his first game back.
He hadn't played in nine months. LaMelo coming back off
an anko injury. He was the best player on the floor.
And you mentioned the three point shooting. They missed thirty threes.

(06:18):
There were thirty thirteen to forty three.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
I saw Brian McTaggart was even tweeting about this, and
I saw some other folks saying, like, should they make
a rule like the Steph Curry Warriors duped all of us.
They have kids coming up right now, Stan, I mean
for like the last five, six, seven years, they have
kids coming up.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Who that's all they do?

Speaker 4 (06:36):
They Oh, I can just shoot a three anywhere anywhere
on the court at any time. And it's like, can
we get back the fundamental basketball police?

Speaker 5 (06:42):
No, the mid range game, the midia is buying large gone.
It's either dunk something high percentage in the paint or
you're gonna shoot.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
A three brick threes cut all night because you just
think you.

Speaker 5 (06:53):
Anywhere he may Udoka said last season, mandatory Rockets must
get at least forty three three point attempts nightly. Basis
what they attempt last night. I'm going forty three forty three,
but they missed thirty up. Well, of course he may
want them to go in, but they didn't. So when
I look at you take them if you're not good
at it, Hey, the percent just say get them up.
So I'm looking at uh just from a percentage standpoint,

(07:15):
let's look at these three Uh da da da da dah.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Here we go.

Speaker 5 (07:20):
Jabari Smith Jr. Two for five forty percent from him,
he knocked back. He missed rather a couple of wide
open shots from Deep, I thought should fall Aprin Shingngoon.
He took a couple, he took three. Actually he knocked
down two. At sixty six percent. But there's Jalen Green
at thirty three percent, Fred Van Vliet at eighteen percent.
You're just not winning games, which you're starting back friend.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
Two for eleven from Deep, Jayalen Green five for fifteen,
and then Dylan Brooks gave you a big fight Dylan
Brooks gave you two points. He was one for six
from the field, I mean and oh for three from three.
I heard the guys this morning talking about it. Look
if I mean may I look at Dylan Brooks and
Jibbari and I go, guys, I like, this is the NBA.

(08:02):
But I'm going to move you to the bench if
I can't rely on you, like, I gotta play the
guys who could play it.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
I've Ben Thompson played his bat off. I bring him
up for you last night.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
Aman Thompson was nice, like, I will change this thing
up if I'm not going to get one hundred percent effort.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
So here's what's weird.

Speaker 5 (08:16):
If you watch, I'm men Thompson, big dunk by him,
very athletic in transition transitions, give me kund of your row,
two hands booth, very athletic player, one of the most
athletic players in the league. Twenty two minutes off the
bench for our men last night, five of eleven from
the field.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
He turned down some wide open looks.

Speaker 5 (08:33):
Brother just won't shoot the basketball when it's right there
in front of him, So I wanted to see has
his shot increased. But this is what's weird about basketball.
I'm in Thompson led the Rockets off the bench in scoring.
He was the fourth Rocket in double figures with thirteen,
but with him on the floor, the team was minus
nineteen in the plus minus. So you started talking about

(08:54):
the efficiency and the team performance, you know, and and
what am I trying to say in consortum, It just
wasn't there thirty nine excuse me, thirty six point nine
percent from the field. It's just not gonna get it.
In the NBA you mentioned the threes. Hell, they were
eighty percent from the free throw line. A bad Horn's
team shot seventy nine. I mean, it wasn't it wasn't

(09:16):
all bad. And yes it is one game. I heard
Ross on Rockets Rapped last night doing a great job.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
It just your ruined.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
I mean, like great crowd on hands, all the move,
like get all the momentum. Well it sounded good on TV,
but like all the momentum and excitement, it's a big.

Speaker 5 (09:33):
It's just like a big. You put the pen to
the balloon, like h I was. You're right about that.
It was anti climactic. You got the rookie extensions for
Jalen Green and Alfren shingun respectively. You got the start
of the twenty four season and everybody's healthy except Steven Adams,
and then guys have worked on their games in the
off season. Here comes third overall pick. Many seeing the

(09:55):
best player in this year is draft Reached Shepherd and
everything that he did in summer league getting in the preseason, Like, okay,
here we go. Oh, there's a new video board, and
the video board looked good, by the way, I do
think that is a very nice addition. So kudos to
Tillman and the folks over at Toyota Center and the
folks in operations and running the show over there, and
from a sales and market standpoint, all those things were beautiful.

(10:18):
But damn, a Hornets team came in there and beat you.
So I'm not going over react. It's one of eighty two,
but damn one team one oh five Rockets. Let one
go down the stretch.

Speaker 4 (10:32):
Any of what we saw from last year, though, like
they would get they would play great in the first half,
and they would have the third quarter from hell where
they just like didn't defend and they get out scored
like forty to eighteen.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
You'd be like, what the hell just happened.

Speaker 5 (10:45):
So last year there were multiple stretches where this team
needed somebody to stop the bleeding and they couldn't get
a bucket. So if it's one of those nights where
Jalen can't get it going and our man's athleticism doing
to not allow him the slash and attack the rim,
then Alfren sing Gun whether he's going up against one

(11:06):
of those bigger bodies or is just not his night.
Like they just have so many moments where somebody's got
to stop the bleeding, whether that be offensively and matching
the firepower from somebody else or defensively. Let's get the ball,
let's get in transition on defense, and let's let our
defense lead to points that wasn't happening last night. And
I think Fred, and we'll go to break on this one.
I think Fred van Vliet, who is an extension of

(11:27):
he made Udoka on the floor as the floor general
that he is. Fred van Vliet summed it up. We
were just disjointed, like it looked like the guys in
white jerseys, but we're playing different games.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
It's the same dude, it's the same team from last year.
I watched it.

Speaker 4 (11:45):
You guys have been at the new training complex last week.
You know what I'm doing if I mean man, I'm
closing the new training complex. We're going to a street
ball the practice. You guys don't get the lucky you
want to get new complex. You didn't play good enough
tourn this billion dollar complex. You want to get out
there in the park right in front of toy Is Center.
Whatever that is a brother of these guys from the street.
They're gonna defend y'all today one on one.

Speaker 5 (12:04):
All right, Memphis Grizzlies up next that is tomorrow night
over at Toyota Center. I will be back in the
building hosting some folks as well. We may hear from
Ema Udoka and some of the players as we get
into the eleven o'clock hour. We want to pivot, however,
Week eight in the NFL, As you said, Gordon begins
tonight this game versus the Colts. There's some unique scenarios here.

(12:26):
We heard from Demiko Rans. We also heard from CJ.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Stroud.

Speaker 5 (12:29):
I want you all to hear from them on the
other side. Next up on a Thursday, Sports Talk seven
ninety stand Northfleet.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
It's just a five Chris Cordy. Next up, the Next
Up mentality on your radio.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Everybolla that you go through prepares you for the next one.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
Welcome back to Next Up on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (12:53):
Yeah, first and foremost, they want to run the football
right getting Taylor back. He's an exceptional playmaker. He has
the stop start ability. He has to home run speed,
contact balance, like they have to rely on the run
game and they have really good guys who can run
it with JT and with Anthony Richardson. So that's that's

(13:13):
where the start. And then you know with the explosive passes.
We know we gave us some explosive passes there in
our first game. So we have to be just disciplined
in our coverage and play play the defense the proper way,
and we try to eliminate those explosives. But you know,
we'll kind of see how they try to attack us.
You know, they're getting some guys back, they get bucked
their back defensively. That's going to help them, you know,

(13:36):
with their run game and their pass rush. He's a
great player as well. So things change over weekly. You know,
things changed, and we'll see we'll be ready for whatever
they throw at us.

Speaker 5 (13:47):
Jami o'rians after practice yesterday addressing the media over at
NRG where his thought process is early evaluation on the
Colts as they come to NRG State noon kickoff. CBS
has the game and the Texans. It is now down
good to Texans, favored by five as of this morning.

(14:09):
The last time I.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
Checked, man straight up disrespectful.

Speaker 7 (14:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (14:13):
So injury reports come out yesterday. We'll get to those
here momentarily. But as we begin to further unpack what
we can expect from this Colts game, and I find
myself in thinking about the Texas chances for victory, You
know me, I'm all about like thresholds, benchmarks, what's new.

(14:34):
And one of the things that jumps out to me,
other than the obvious Howard the offensive line respond will
seej not have a game where he throws for under
one hundred yards. That'd be great. Can Joe Mixon keep
this up? Three of his four games and he has
played in finished he's rushed for one hundred yards. So
there are a lot of things. How your life without
Nico Collins, There are a lot of things we can

(14:56):
get to that. Ken nevill Hewitt and Jake Hanson, if
they are thrust into duty again, can they repeat their
performances at the linebacker spots from a week ago up
in Green Bay. I start thinking more about the Colts, however,
and just a few things come to mind as I
start doing my stanalytics with the quarterbacks.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
What do I see here?

Speaker 5 (15:22):
If the Texans win, they'll lead the division by two games.
If they lose, they'll be tied for first place with
the Colts. A sweep would essentially give the Texans a
three game lead if you consider the head to head tiebreaker.
So obviously a lot going on there. I said to
you off air, this is the first time that Anthony

(15:43):
Richardson in his career will face the same team twice
in the season. You and I started chronicling going back
looking at his performance last week.

Speaker 4 (15:52):
I thought, I thought, you met like in his short career,
and I did, And I was thinking the third time
he's met the Texans. Period of start against the Texans,
But yeah, I mean last year in that game before
he got hurt, six or ten fifty six yards passing,
and then the three rushes thirty five rushing yards are
two rushing touchdowns. And then week one this year, nine
of nineteen, two hundred and twelve yards passing the two
touchdowns and then the fifty six yards rushing in a

(16:14):
rushing touchdown. In his four other games of the season,
he has no other rushing touchdowns. Stan His three rushing
touchdowns against the Texans obviously the most against any opponent.
What is it about the Demico Ryan scheme that when
they get down on the red zone Anthony Richardson running,
they can't stop?

Speaker 8 (16:31):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (16:32):
I don't think. I don't know. That's one Number two.
I'm less concerned about Anthony Richardson, more concerned about Jonathan Taylor.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
He's not.

Speaker 5 (16:43):
I don't think he's gonna play. You are, both he
and Butner are coming back from ankles. They were both
limited on the injury report yesterday. You are more bullish
on Anthony Richardson than I am. However, you are not alone.
There are others out there.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
That he's not played well.

Speaker 5 (17:00):
I even go back to the game last year. We
just saw caught up with the two rushing touchdowns, and
I get it. He averaged eleven point seven yards to
carry two touchdowns on three carries.

Speaker 4 (17:09):
And that was in the first quarter before he got
knocked out of the game. If he didn't get knocked
out of that game, he might have five runhing touchdown.

Speaker 5 (17:14):
I think the Miko's defense would have adjusted. My point
is what beat the Texans in the first home game
a week ago, a week ago, a year ago. It
wasn't Anthony richards and he had a seventy five passer rating.
What beat them was when he left the game in
the first quarter, like you talked about, is Gardner Minshew
came in and was nineteen or twenty three with a
passer rating. Go won twelve. Gardner Mintschew is what finished

(17:38):
them off and they had no answer. And so I
don't know, six or ten for fifty six. I mean
he got got knocked out so early, you don't know
what again, seventy five, you weren't winning mini game. He
can't go seventy five over. He was six of ten
for fifty six. That's pretty good. I'm just giving you
seventy five passer rating. That doesn't tell the story. In
the NFL, more often than not, you're not winning games now,

(17:58):
Anthony Richardson.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
That that's for me. Believe everybody, whatever you want to
do for me, I go, okay, it's real simple.

Speaker 5 (18:08):
CJ's got to outplay Anthony Richard like I expect CJ
to look more like CJ. We know Anthony Richardson has
a documented history of being injured. You cannot count on
him to start and finish a game. Now we're gonna
talk about CJ getting his ass hit because I've got
some numbers here that are alarming as I've continued to

(18:28):
do a deeper dive on what's going on with this
past protection. But overall, CJ. Stroud has got to go
ball and be excellent. If he is not, that's a
lot of pressure. As we pivoted to the run game,
and I go, Joe Mixon, you had thirty carries for
whatever it was, or is it thirty carries for one
to sixty something in that first game Week one. I

(18:52):
don't know we can count on Joe Mixon to go
do that again. We shouldn't have to count on Joe
Mixon to go do that again.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
Can he still? It'll go be one hundred yards plus? Sure?

Speaker 5 (19:02):
Because what they've got to ask themselves, Gord, is what
the hell happened? How come Mixon was able to do that?
How come Stepan Diggs is an end zone twice in
Week one? Granted, no Nico Collins on the field for
this game. Well we're seeing I mean, you got you
gotta have a balance.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
I mean Strout.

Speaker 4 (19:17):
You were able to beat New England with Stroute only
for throwing for less than two hundred yards because mixing
was so good in your defense was playing very well.
But this past year, this past week Green Bay, the
run game was there, Joe Mixon was awesome, but you
had no passing game to speak of. And obviously he
got sacked four times. And right now in the season
stand they're giving up close to three sacks per game

(19:38):
on CJ. I mean, that's that's you can't have that, CJ. Stroud,
all that money you're paying, that old line, you gotta
do better.

Speaker 5 (19:48):
Stroud has been pressured third most of any quarterback in
the league on his dropbacks. He's been sacked twenty times,
tied for third most in the league. Stroud has been
hit sixty times this season on dropbacks, tied for third
most in the league. Y'all keep telling me just let
him throw the football. This is what's happening now, CJ.

(20:11):
Excuse me. CJ took to the podium and there's a
cut in here. Uh see, let me hear this, Stroud, Fine,
CJ spoke to this offensive line and this confidence that
he has in let me hear this.

Speaker 9 (20:22):
Yeah, I mean, I know the personalities of my guys.
You know, it's been my second year with him, and
I know, you know, it's a little different than I'm
used to.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
You know, this is an older, older, old line.

Speaker 9 (20:33):
Except for really Juice and King, you know, so really,
I mean, for me, the message is just being honest
with them and you know, being heartfelt. You know, I've
been on teams before a while, you know, I've had
to you know, stream and yell and you know, like
and that's the way you can get to a player
as well. But you know, for this team, you know,
it's really just you know, they understand they then played
a lot of meaningful ball before. And that's for key An,

(20:54):
Juice and then for the rest of the older guys
as well as you know, they understand, you know, we
gotta be better. But you know, I don't believe even
you know, being somebody elseuse when I throw a pick,
you know, they uplift me. You know, so I understand that,
you know, we all want to be better, but you
know it's it's a way to do that, all right.

Speaker 5 (21:09):
C J would continue being asked about the offensive line.
Let me hear this, CJ number four.

Speaker 9 (21:15):
Honestly, I mean I would say, you know, just for
me just getting the ball out on time, being able,
you know, to try to stay comfortable after getting hit,
and you know, really just you know, just trying to
make everybody around me better. You know, I got the
almost respect and you know, trusting out line. You know,
one one outing.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
Doesn't make you a stop right there.

Speaker 9 (21:37):
There's plenty of games that you can go look at
the film and they did an amazing job, you know,
so I don't I don't believe in the in the
banter and all this.

Speaker 1 (21:44):
I don't stop this. CJ. No, no, stop this.

Speaker 5 (21:47):
Hear about it, and you know I just no. Nephew's
pissing me off. We gotta go to break Gordon. I'll
get you to respond on the other side of Houston.
You respond as well. Seven one three two one two
five seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
C J.

Speaker 5 (21:58):
Stroud got in front of them yesterday and talking about
there's plenty tape of where the offensive line has held
them down. When I throw a pick, they don't get
mad at me. There's other offensive lines I played with
where I had to yell and scream. Of course he's
referencing college. He hasn't had to do that, because this
is a veteran on line.

Speaker 1 (22:14):
CJ. Stop this.

Speaker 5 (22:17):
Now, I understand what you're doing. What is it You
catch more flies with honey than you do a vinegar.
I get all that, and I get it. You're a good,
wholesome Christian young man. But even the Lord himself went
crazy in the temple when things were out of order. CJ.
I repeat as we go to break. This isn't just

(22:37):
one game. This has happened multiple games this season. In fact,
you've been hit and sacked more than everybody else except
about two dudes in this league. Literally third most precurre
quarterback in the league. Only two other quarterbacks have been

(22:58):
sacked more. Only two other quarterbacks have been hit more
sixty times. Jo ass been hit and you talking about
you ain't gotta yell and scream and everything is gonna
be alright, and I'm gonna remember the good times we had.
Damn that there's a division on the line. Sunday, somebody
over there, give me some bleeping fire and some sense
of urgency about what the hell this means? Are you

(23:21):
trying to get to a title game or not, because
that bleep I'm hearing from over there in NRG doesn't
do it for me.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
Now.

Speaker 5 (23:28):
I asked Jonathan Wells, a former Textan gord is my witness.
He was sitting in here with us, and I asked them, Welles,
you played Ohio State just like CJ. Is it time
for him to be more communicative, demonstrative and more flat
out damn direct.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
This is unacceptable starting with the front. Now.

Speaker 5 (23:48):
He doesn't have to do that just because that's what
I think I would do. He's got his own leadership style.
But this nonsense like and you know what, let's pick
this up on this side because I'm hot now. The
Texans have not built up up enough equity that like
they are above a pail. Get this crap fixed. When

(24:10):
you got money and the talent over there to be
playing better. I know I'm way over Gordon. I just
got pissed again, real Texas talking. Listen to seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
Next up continues now with stand Or Fleet and Chris Gordy.

Speaker 5 (24:25):
We're half an hour into a Thursday edition, Week eight
underway tonight in the National Football League Sunday, We'll all
be over at NRG for noon kickoff, as the Texans
are a five point favorite with the Indianapolis coachs coming
to town and Anthony Richardson faces the Texans for or

(24:45):
any team in that matter, for the second time for
the first time of his career, as he missed a
ton of games last year do the injury. And so
here we go, first place in the AFC South up
for grabs.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
And we heard from.

Speaker 5 (25:00):
Coaching quarterback at NRG yesterday and I got a little
bit perturbed when I hear CJ talking about everything's gonna
be cool. Ain't no need to scream in this old line.
We got a lot of super super veterans over there,
and everything's obka, Everything's gonna be okay. And it may
I have not lost faith in this team, but I

(25:22):
also think it's disingenuous to ignore the fact that CJ. Stroud,
who missed two games last season, if he keeps this
pace up, he is going to miss some games this
season if things don't get better. Now the your line,
Chris Strauser on line, coach, y'all gotta figure it out.

(25:43):
Last year, everybody said, okay. Is Chris Strasser's first year
teaching me outside on scheme, the way that Bobby and
Shanahan and McVeigh teaching. Okay, we've not had an off
season a year and the off season for you, coach Strauser. Now, respectfully,
I can't tell you how to do your job, but
I can judge that critique the uh what what that
job produces? The production of said output. I don't expect

(26:10):
CJ to just come in the meetia and just rip
his dudes, but I don't. That's kumba, y'all only goes
so far. He's gotta be tired of getting picked picking
himself up there? What is the big boy for Green Bay?
CJ takes a shot a should on the sideline from
a dude that's not even in the damn game, not
a single lineman on the sideline. What would Trent Williams

(26:32):
have done? What would Lane Johnson and Philly have done?
What would Pina Suel and Detroit have done? Where were
the dudes? CJ having to pick himself up?

Speaker 1 (26:42):
It's just.

Speaker 5 (26:47):
CJ shouldn't have to worry about getting hit versus the Colts.
Why because the Colts don't really pressure the way that
other teams pressure.

Speaker 8 (26:59):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (26:59):
Let's see here, I just saw something The Colts have
generated pressure on just twenty eight percent of dropbacks by
opposing quarterbacks in twenty twenty four. That is the third
fewest in the NFL. With that being said, I want
you to hear this. They pressure the third least amount
of anybody in the league. Yet they sacks stround four

(27:21):
times in Week one. God, anybody else feeling great about
this old line?

Speaker 1 (27:27):
Like what it's just.

Speaker 5 (27:31):
Come on, Colnor, let's cueut Renfro in most cityfore I
get on another tangent Renfro getting here, man, let's talk
about this team off Kirby.

Speaker 10 (27:42):
Let me just say this staying yeahm uh yeah. I
do know you could get upset and everything, But think
about it if CJ come out over killed and blasts
off of a line staying you've been you've been in
a locker room and you know that's not good. That's
not a good I mean, I don't see no part

(28:03):
of what he's saying and everything that's based on the
fact that you know that is the team leadership type
thing that you don't want to throw your your line
out of the bus car. Your man have enough veterans
and everything that's on the team.

Speaker 5 (28:16):
They stop right there, Renfrol. I'll let you finish, but
let me ask two things to what you just said.
If the veteran no line we're going to fix it,
then why wouldn't it fixed already? Think about what you
just said. You said it's a veteran no line, and
CJ even saying I don't got a fuss and do
all that stuff, Then why does it look like that?

Speaker 1 (28:36):
CJ?

Speaker 10 (28:37):
And I agree with you, it looks like that. But
I'm talking about for him to blast and off of
the line in front of the meeting. Okay, I'm quite
sure on you know, back room in the locker room,
and they have locker room stuff that goes on the
locker room. He shouldn't have to put this stuff out
there for knowing that he can't win that augument. If

(28:57):
he blastes off of the line.

Speaker 1 (28:58):
Stop gonna have reports all over.

Speaker 10 (29:00):
The world about what he did your office the line
compared to what is going on behind the scenes. So fat,
I think it's a promplination. I think it's a combination
though by staying of the offensive scheme and the offensive
a line Chaine game plan again their user, and I
just think that they ought to work that out to
which I think they should work it out. But I'm

(29:21):
with you on the fact that, hey, it's the officer
line problem. I don't think there's a CJ problem to
throw his key under the buck. That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (29:28):
I get what your point is. And again I'm not
saying that it's See. I remember one of my og
shout out to coach though. He used to tell me
when I was getting ready to turn thirty, I might
have already been right at thirty and he said to me,
he says, Stanley, you're learning your thirties. A lot of
what you encounter personally and professionally is navigated by timing, tact,

(29:53):
and tone. So no, I'm not expecting CJ to take
the podium and go tonzo. I mean, what the bleep man,
You're getting paid a ton of cash. No, but for
CJ to tell me that everything is okay, and if
they're operating like everything is okay, like when they're having
their dinners and luncheons and all that. Like, see, what

(30:17):
would Patrick Mahomes say? What do you think Lamar would say?
We think Josh Allen would say. The greats that have
played this game, Brady Breeze Manny, what would they say
if they were getting picked up off the carpet like this?
You know there is a way to address and it's

(30:38):
real simple. What we've done up front right now is
not enough. I expect more from my guys. I know
they love me, I love them. We're in this together,
but we're not going to accomplish the goals that we
have set for the expectations that this city and this
league has placed on us and we placed on ourselves.
We can't get there if I don't get guys doing

(31:00):
their job and I don't do my job better. It's unacceptable.
Houston period.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
Done.

Speaker 5 (31:07):
Message said, they're gonna know, We're gonna know. Done Now,
That's how I would do it. But I don't wear
number seven, nor of my French Chise quarterback International Football League.
I'm here dealing with Gordon's bs every day. Let me
get who is this? Let me get.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
Bobby Memory.

Speaker 11 (31:25):
Hey, I can see how you got into University of Virginia.
I love all your takes. I think you're spot on,
but I do think that it's wonderful to have a
head coach like Kamiko. Ryan's good family man, good smart coach,
and I do love CJ. Stroud. I watched him in
the Ohio State game and the passes that he was

(31:46):
making were just incredible. So I think that I think
everything's gonna be a fine. I do agree with you
about the offensive line. I do think maybe that first
round draft pick might go to tackle and the other guy,
Titus Howard go to guard, like they were suggesting in
the paper today.

Speaker 5 (32:04):
Yeah, we brought that up on this show yesterday. Could
they go back to that which was successful for them
last season?

Speaker 11 (32:11):
And I just I've been watching the Texans a long
time and I got turned off by him. And the
one thing I will say that I wish they would
have done has been a little more aggressive when they
were on the twelve line twelve yard line and at
least try to score a touchdown. And I think that
would have been the difference. But again, especially since they
had five starters on defense out of the game.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
And that's all I got.

Speaker 11 (32:34):
And I love your show and I love your takes,
and thank you so much.

Speaker 5 (32:37):
I appreciate that extremely complimentary O got Bobby and Memorial
appreciate him for doing that. All rights deal with other things.
Colts coming to town. We want to hear from Gordy.
We got some technical stuff going to here in the studio,
but we got that all worked out. We'll continue taking
calls on Texans Talk that we'll get back into rockets
and some of the other things in the sports universe.

(32:57):
On the other side, Di Miko was also asked what
can we expect from Devin White being on this roster.
We spent a lot of time on that yesterday. Wherever
you guys want to go as it pertains to the
Texans and the National Football League, this is the legendary
and mighty and nature KB and me Sports Talk seven night.

Speaker 3 (33:15):
Next self continues, it was not having next Okay, here's
Tad north Fleet, Chris.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
Gordy, it's not having TXT okay on Sports Suck.

Speaker 9 (33:29):
I'll say probably like sixty forty, you know, sixty percent
of trying to move on and you know, realize that
this is another another great challenge, another good team to
play on in the NFL, you know, so and then again,
you know you look back and you know, just really
look at the philosophy of you know, Gus Bradley, who
was I think is a good a great coordinator, and
you know, they got a lot of great defenders. You know,

(33:49):
I think they're getting bucked back and you know that's
a huge piece to them. And you know, Kenny's playing
really high. You know it's our here's playing great. So
you know there's a lot of respect for those guys
over there. But you know, at the same time, you know, uh,
I'm not gonna harp on the past, but at the
same time, you know understand that those are some good players.

Speaker 1 (34:04):
We got to be able to be on our a
game to come out with a win.

Speaker 5 (34:07):
Bless my nephew's hard as we wrap up our one
here in the seven ninety studios, CJ's voice get the
crackling sometime, nephew growing up, stay in Fleet me at
stand sportsman at Chris Gordy him to my left, my
radio partner each week day ten am to noon, right
here on seven ninety your home in Houston. Sports do

(34:28):
follow the station if you would at Sports Talk seven ninety. No,
I still think that my expectations for the Texans have
not changed because all of their goals are still right
in front of them. They should win this division, and
quite frankly, should do so convincingly. Then it's about what

(34:53):
matchup you get in round one. I don't think they're
gonna catch Kansas City for the number one overall seed
and getting to buy so it is likely they'll have
to play in the wild card round.

Speaker 1 (35:02):
They play them.

Speaker 4 (35:05):
So if the Chiefs take a loss somewhere along the
way and you stay at two losses by the time
you get there, yeah, I don't think.

Speaker 5 (35:10):
My point is I just think the Chiefs, especially not
at this official they get DeAndre Hopkins is officially headed
to Casey.

Speaker 1 (35:17):
I just think they're just a Will Lord machine.

Speaker 5 (35:20):
Last year we saw even when Kansas City lamps, they
still get in there and they switch gears and here
we go.

Speaker 4 (35:27):
And that's how you went back to back Super Bowls
real quick on Kansas City. I got a Yahoo Fantasy
set out an email this morning. It says, don't give
up on Mahomes just yet. Who's giving up on Mahomes?

Speaker 5 (35:39):
Well, his fantasy numbers have sucked, Like I'm individually, not
them as a team.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
Right, No, but that's been fantasy. Doesn't matter. If the
Chiefs won thirteen to ten, you need Mahomes to put
up numbers.

Speaker 4 (35:49):
And every year for the last four or five years,
Mahomes has been a fantasy killer, like he's awesome. He
goes and gets you the four touchdowns and three hundred
yards passing and thirty yards it's rushing.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
He ain't doing jack this year, and people are like,
I'm looking at Stan every week. Kirk Cousins is projected
at more Fantasy points than Maham.

Speaker 4 (36:08):
Donald's got Marcus Mariota. It's projected to have more Fantasy
points this year than Mahomes. I don't know what's going on.
I mean, I guess they're just like, well, our defense
is dominant, to lean on them.

Speaker 5 (36:17):
I appreciate fantasy, but Mahomes has gotten into where Brady
and the greats Brady and Breeze and Manning and those
guys of our era. Mahomes is like, I just want
to master the simple. Like the game slows down to
a point where Mahomes like, oh, I don't have to
be magical on every throw, when I absolutely manipulate the

(36:39):
defense pre snap, by formation and by route concepts and combinations.

Speaker 1 (36:45):
Oh, and I trust my old line to do their
job so CJ will get there. I do that.

Speaker 5 (36:50):
I do believe that it's in there. CJ will get there.
Now he's gonna need some other people to be as
good as their job as he is that he is.

Speaker 4 (36:58):
You know, Mahomes done that as bad as he been
fantasy wise. You know he doesn't have this year a
game where he's threw for less than one hundred yards
in a game. J does old line might be a
bit better, Jacob, let's go on the north side. Good
morning to you're next up?

Speaker 1 (37:12):
Yes, what's up? Hey man?

Speaker 2 (37:14):
With the old line.

Speaker 8 (37:15):
It's two games on the role in harsh environments. They
playing against the Minnesota in Minnesota so loud. They can't
get the snaps saw Green Bay, they can't get so loud.
They're going with old with old teams, old.

Speaker 1 (37:32):
Franchises, and they played the Bears. You would think they
was in the NFC North. I'm glad they done with
the NFC North. They play Detroit. They gotta play Detroit.

Speaker 4 (37:41):
Here, Oh lord, they gotta play Detroit Sunday football though,
so it should be a rocking environment, something like can
we stop lamby?

Speaker 1 (37:49):
Tonsel has been in likely every stadium in the league
talking about the loudness. I'm not talking about the state.

Speaker 8 (37:57):
What I'm talking about you can't if they can't teach,
oh boy, just getting in the lead if he can't
get the snap off, if it's so loud that they
can't he can't get the snap, that's why the players
not coming.

Speaker 1 (38:07):
Then the head coach needs to tell the quarterback and
get they need to practice. Hey okay, and then get
on off on hey a.

Speaker 8 (38:17):
And with the rockets, you're talking about the one two,
all these three picks in the first round.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
Is any of them gonna make it to the All
Star Game? None of them?

Speaker 8 (38:25):
And they first round picks Shepherd, Hey, LaMelo came.

Speaker 1 (38:29):
To the end and just housed them. They too smart.
He's good, but they need a star. Bro. They are
some lame olds.

Speaker 8 (38:35):
They doing what I mean by that, they just they
don't have no flavor. They just they Gordon, you don't
like stars. I know you didn't like Lablar and I
know you're like LaMelo. He would look Lameto the guy.

Speaker 1 (38:46):
He just he just took over the game. Quarter that
he's just a starin with the dog.

Speaker 5 (38:54):
Appreciate it, Jacob. I'm comfortable saying that LaMelo is a
star win healthy. He's hadn't been on the floor Ton
and again, I know I've seen him since he's come
into the league, covering the team during the pre and
post game shows for the Hornets. I've seen LaMelo Ball.
He is a star when he's on the floor. LaVar
Balls more of a star than LaMelo. We don't even
bring him up anymore. West Side, Joe, Man, let's wrap

(39:16):
up this album.

Speaker 1 (39:16):
What say you? What's up with it?

Speaker 6 (39:19):
Man?

Speaker 2 (39:19):
What you on this morning is standing?

Speaker 11 (39:21):
Man?

Speaker 5 (39:22):
I know I get pissed off with people's CJ can't
say some things because of his position.

Speaker 1 (39:27):
I'm gonna back nephew, so I'm gonna say it. That's
what I'm on. I'm tired of seeing my.

Speaker 7 (39:32):
Dude get hit wrnder him because I was gonna let
you know him can't do that thing.

Speaker 1 (39:36):
Cos he can't him do that, we won't have a quarterback.
And I'll tell you why he hadn't done enough.

Speaker 2 (39:42):
To go in there and do exactly what you just
do on the radio.

Speaker 1 (39:46):
No, sir, he has not saying. And I'll tell you why.

Speaker 2 (39:49):
The guys you.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
Mentioned like Pat Mahomes and then stuff like that.

Speaker 12 (39:53):
It took a good, a great coach like Andy Reid
to fill many times in Philadelphia before he came in
the city.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
And I ain't gonna be listening what you have to say.

Speaker 5 (40:02):
West Side joke, but before when Andy Reid was failing
getting to one Super Bowl? What they won the NFC?
What an NFC title game four years in a row
and won it once and they get to the Super Bowl.
I assure you Donovan mcnadd was in that locker room
going some of this is unacceptable. Hence the issue with TERRYL.
Lowins and you know how that ended up. So you

(40:22):
don't have to be a Super Bowl champion quarterback to
get in it. Josh Allen in Buffalo is telling dudes
when it ain't right, including Dion Dawkins, their highly priced
left tackle, when it ain't right, the quarterback can get
in there, you know what, y'all tweet at Sean Salisbury
and asking what CJ should be saying behind closed doors
and what and how else he could be framing it

(40:44):
in public. At the end of the day, it's not
about what you say, it's about what they do. And
I'm like this offensive line. Gordy brought it up yesterday.
It was a great point by Gordy with starters clipp Yeah,
didn't happen to lie with starters out last year, the
offensive line played better, The offense looked better, so we

(41:06):
all know the old line has been an issue. I'm
just a little bit peeved that the head coaching quarterback
is kind of like, Yeah, are you supposed to have
confidence in your guys? Sure, if they were my teammates,
I'll be telling the guys too. Look, your best ball
is ahead of you.

Speaker 1 (41:19):
We're here with you.

Speaker 5 (41:20):
We're gonna grind it out. We'll be fine. But you
gotta have somebody in the room that is respected. You
have to have somebody in the room player. You have
to have somebody a player in there. Go gentlemen that
ain't in, and I don't give a damn where you
were drafted, how much you make, well, how long you've
been here in Houston, don't give a damn. If the
goal is a super Bowl, that ain't in and then

(41:43):
you hold each other accountable. The locker room is gonna
police itself. So I'm just saying to CJ, don't get
up in front of the media when dudes ain't playing
well and try and tell us everything's gonna be okay.
I've got documented have they been No, they haven't been
awful every snap of every game. Man gotta get tired
of getting hit isn't it. Third downs are when the

(42:06):
Texans blocking regresses the most, as CJ. Stroud has been
sacked ten times, second most in the NFL on third down,
pressured forty six times on third down, ten more times
than the next quarterback.

Speaker 1 (42:22):
CJ.

Speaker 5 (42:22):
Stroud with time to throw while being pressured two point
thirty nine seconds, the least amount of time. Excuse me,
the third least amount of time to throw from the
pocket when pressure in the league. Find me a single
metric that tells me this offensive line is helping CJ.
From a pass pro standpoint, and certainly consistently CJ knows this.

(42:45):

Speaker 10 (43:56):
Next ups, next step, the next step, Take the next step,
next up.

Speaker 2 (44:02):
Next stop, next, next up. This team wants to be next.
This is next up with stad Norfleeten, Chris Gordy.

Speaker 1 (44:12):
Let's see what's next next next, Let's kick off the
second hour.

Speaker 5 (44:18):
Find an hour to show here in the Sports seven
ninety studios nestled in between Uptown Park and River Oaks
gallerya area you know where we at here off the
west Loop. Appreciate everybody that check this out in the
first hour of the program. If you miss something, you
can go to Sports seven ninety dot com. Or utilize
the free iHeartRadio app. At the conclusion of this program,

(44:38):
Connor be grateful to get that up for you. Where
we begin unpacking what we can expect from the Coats
as Anthony Richardson comes to town, him and CJ Stroud
same draft class. CJ has gotten the best or the
better of Anthony Richardson thus far, and here we go
Stroud worst gay of his career from a yardage standpoint.

(45:04):
When we saw them in Green Bay. CJ's getting hell
knocked out of them. And apparently there are people in
the city that are just okay with that. It's just
magically gonna get better because there are veterans over there.
It's just gonna fix itself. Then why does it take
We're going in the week eight takes eight weeks to
fix stop it. I'm gonna getting the tangent injury reporters out.

(45:27):
I want to get to that. I also want to
hear more from Damiko Ryans again. He addressed the media yesterday,
including what we can expect to see from the signing
of Devin White, linebacker formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles, most
notably as an All Pro and former Pro bowler with
the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Most certainly, we'll take your phone

(45:48):
call seven one three two one two five seven ninety
Later in this hour, we'll get back into the Rockets
performance disappointing fashion over at the Toyota Center last night,
as the twenty four twenty Rocket season is underway. All Right,
before I get to you, kJ, just a couple of things.
This just came across from the Houston Texans. Rashad Weaver

(46:14):
signed to the practice squad. The Texans have released Troy
Pride from the practice squad. Okay, so I thought that
might be something a bit more notable. Nonetheless, all right,
so okay, that's not that. Trying to get to the
injury report and then we will hear from the Miko.
All right, here we go, got the injury report. Some
of you have heard this, some of you have not.
Who didn't practice yesterday. Aziz as Shahja linebacker, he's still

(46:37):
dealing with that need Nope, Steven Sims backspasms for him,
he's not going wide receiver, return man. Safety, Jimmy Ward's
got that growing thing again. And there's Robert Woods the
other states mean he's got a foot. Good news, Larami
Tonzl practice on a Wednesday. Hallelujah. Henry told Tod he
apparently is out of the concussion protocol, or at least

(46:58):
one phase of the concussion protocol. Toe toe, and there's
Kamari last to the second round pick. He is dealing
with a shoulder. There a scapular dammage didn't require surgery.
He was on the practice field in a limited capacity,
as was Will Anderson Jr. Dealing with a shoulder slash
chest they listed officially as chess on the injury report,

(47:19):
and defensive tackle full unsu for the CAASI was also
dealing with a shoulder.

Speaker 1 (47:25):
He was practicing.

Speaker 5 (47:26):
So from a starter standpoint with Mario Edwards Junior being
suspended at one as he's al Shire two, Jimmy Ward three,
so we're down to just three starters that are out
or at least did not practice yesterday. How are the
coats looking? You ask from notable names. Wide receiver Josh
Downs didn't practice yesterday. He's got a growing and toe.

(47:49):
Starting center Ryan Kelly, he didn't practice with a calf.
Michael Pittman wide receivers got a back in his own right,
and starting tackle Brayden Smith battling a knee. The Forest
Buckner and Jonathan Taylor did practice on a limited basis,
both dealing with.

Speaker 1 (48:05):
Ankles having not played the previous week. Plus.

Speaker 5 (48:10):
All right, so that's where we are from an injury standpoint, Gordon,
before we go to the phone lines, anything from an
injury standpoint or in previewing this game, response to me
going eight bleep as it pertains to everybody just being okay,
we see j Stroud getting hit.

Speaker 1 (48:24):
Yeah, I mean just in terms of this game, I'm
just curious.

Speaker 4 (48:28):
You know, it's reading Aaron Wilson's piece why the Texans
signed Devin White.

Speaker 1 (48:33):
You know, what is he?

Speaker 12 (48:35):
Like?

Speaker 1 (48:35):
How much can he contribute this week? This week?

Speaker 5 (48:38):
Yeah, I don't know. I imagine the bros in shape.
He's a consummate professional. He's played a lot of pro football,
so he knows where his body needs to be. Schematically,
I can't imagine that Domico's gonna throw something out there
that Devin White hasn't seen. You can simplify the verbage

(49:00):
on defense enough. I mean, at the end of the day,
everybody's running the same thing. They're just calling it different stuff. Hey, bro,
we're in some version of two or when some version
of three. We're either running a stunt, a game, a pressure,
a zone dog like at some point it's real. So
maybe if healthy, god, he could help fifty percent of snaps.

(49:20):
This was Tomiko excited to get Devin in here. Will
work with him and see where he is, try to
get him caught up to speed, see if he can
help us. An opportunity for him to compete. He talked
about it. He said, look, this guy was a No misplayer,
top ten in the draft. He's been an All Pro,
top linebacker and the league coming out of college. He said,
he was an exceptional talent. What happened? Why he's here?

(49:41):
No one knows.

Speaker 1 (49:42):
Life happens to us. All, well, we're happy a bleep
in mystery. What's going on?

Speaker 5 (49:47):
I told you yesterday if you missed the show, I
called a personal friend of mine. He's in the Eagles
Hall of Fame. I do believe Hugh Douglas, former defensive
end for those McNab teams, and I was like, Hugh,
what's going on with Devin?

Speaker 7 (49:59):
Why?

Speaker 5 (50:00):
Hugh Douglas like, don't know, can't explain it. All I
can tell you is he played all the snaps in
training camp. And then you get to the regular season,
and it's like, sit down, scratch. Maybe he's maybe he
parked the nick Sirianni's parking. What the hell happen? But Casario,
good for you, brother. You may have just found what
do you call it? Diamond in the rough? But I

(50:23):
mean it's not He's not really a dimond in the rough,
but you may be able to find something. Also for Tuitous,
he's whearing number forty five was available here? Or forty
five alter Tampa a loy a linebacker playing for a
formal linebacker a team right now that needs linebackers.

Speaker 1 (50:39):
Oh and go out. We didn't bring this this number,
were you me? Forty six? Okay?

Speaker 5 (50:43):
So one plus yeah, I think Devin has made just
a couple more plays. Okay, so real quick. We didn't
get to this yesterday. It's official. Christian Harris has been
hanging out with Kyle Tucker. The Astro's medical staff. Somehow

(51:03):
has gotten to Christian Harris, cause he's just like, where
is he? Has anybody seen Christian Harris their practice?

Speaker 10 (51:11):
Is he over there?

Speaker 5 (51:12):
I know the brother wants to be on the field.
I'm trying to have a little bit of fun here,
but like, damn, my point seriously though, Like is signing
Devin White, which I can't imagine cost him a ton
of cash?

Speaker 1 (51:23):
Is this like this was a week?

Speaker 4 (51:25):
Like if you notice a lot of dudes on a
lot of different rosters that were put on IR to
start the year were designated to return this week and
it starts the clock and what it's like twenty one
days you have to get back in the floor of practice.

Speaker 1 (51:37):
I think TJ.

Speaker 4 (51:38):
Hockinson was one of them guys who just have not
we haven't seen it all this year. But designated to return,
you start the clock. We got three weeks to get
you going. Harris was not designated to return, so that
tells you they don't think he's gonna be ready the
next twenty one days to.

Speaker 5 (51:51):
Go some aproach somewhere. Somebody's opinion was Christian Harris could
be weeks plural. I think that's what they must have
gotten an update and when they decided to knock that's
a game.

Speaker 1 (52:02):
That's when they want a Devil Whites and hill Skipper.

Speaker 5 (52:05):
Wow, all right, let's go up to Cypress kJ the
Florida Georges brother Good morning.

Speaker 1 (52:10):
Coming up on the next episode of Mischief, where the
hell is Christian Man.

Speaker 12 (52:16):
He hanging out with he hanging out with Jimmy Hoigh
for or something.

Speaker 3 (52:19):
Young man.

Speaker 5 (52:19):
He is m I A but I think him and
Ka Tucker overall siffing some coffee at Maven with car
with lace.

Speaker 1 (52:26):
Mcculli's giving you the three of them hanging out. Let
me find out there Starbucks something up?

Speaker 12 (52:32):
Man, Look, nigga man real quick on the Rockets. I'm
not gonna be on the blong. I look, I know
it's on the one game, but you got the criticize
what's in front of you. And it's a continuation of
last season the Rockets. First of all, the the day
that game, Jayalen Green to me, if you look at
it and it's entirely it's really a trade friendly deal.

(52:53):
I don't think it's a coincidence. And he got three
years with a third year player option and rapped. I
mean sign got five years. I think they're bigger. I'm tagoon.
This is gonna be Green's audition. And if he's not here,
you heard it first. If he doesn't perform or his
game doesn't step up, he's a viable piece for a
team that looking for young talner that can put the bottles.

(53:14):
Gon'na be surprised if he's on the trade block at
some point this season or next. Back to the Rockets store.
Real quick, Jabarbie Smith, I saw his own man play
back in the early two thousand and right.

Speaker 1 (53:24):
Now, he's gotta be a disappointed dad man. Let's do
that weeking and he didn't. Let's do this weekend and
wear taller paper.

Speaker 12 (53:29):
He one of those dudes back in the gap when
when you play sports Stan and Chris, you say big
for nothing. This dude is six foot eleven and act
like he allergic to rebound and I'm I'm I saw
it last year, it is going on this year.

Speaker 1 (53:43):
He's a soft player.

Speaker 12 (53:44):
I wouldn't be surprised if he's gone to They just
got it, They just got it. Yeah he is, Yeah,
watch watch it moving forward real quick on the Texans.
I'll try to get it all in, real quick man,
real quick on the Texans. I remember when I played sports.

Speaker 5 (53:57):
As a kid.

Speaker 12 (53:58):
The sport that I was the week is that I
played basketball, baseball and football. The sport that I was
the weakest that was baseball. I can feel and I
can steal basis. I'm bat like Mardonado. I couldn't hit
the same my life, and yeah that bad I had
a coach really called me out on the diamond in front.

Speaker 1 (54:18):
Of the whole team.

Speaker 12 (54:19):
One thing about me, I'm motivated by challenge. When I
tell you you thought Sam and Soca Hose Can Seko
and Jeff Bedwell, spirit got inside of me?

Speaker 1 (54:28):
Do those hitting balls lifting right?

Speaker 12 (54:29):
You know what I'm saying because I got tired of
the criticism. I'm saying that to say this this weekend,
I'm gonna go and put the Green Bay game behind me.
I'm not letting it go because I can't. I'm too
passion to a fan. But I ain't going to give
them a reprise against Indy. I ain't going to look
at how they come out this game without a criticism

(54:50):
they've been getting from local fans, media, locally and nationwide.
This to me is gonna be a testament of how
devoted they are to rededicate themselves up to the sport
they claimed left. Because you're not for the talk about
Kevin Jermain Maryland, that's me. You're not gonna talk about
me left and right and not expect me to come
out and show you food. I know you're wrong I'm

(55:11):
going to prove it to you right on this field.
So I want to see what they're gonna do in
the field, because this game is in addition to it
being having a division hanging in the bout it. I'm
looking at this as a chance for them to come
out of here and re establish to everybody else.

Speaker 1 (55:23):
Hey, we can get the job done.

Speaker 5 (55:25):
Let it out fellas my man kJ and Cypress and
we'll leave it right there. We'll hear some more from Demko,
hadn't heard from him, maybe some CJ and Gordion. Let's
continue to look at this. I want to take a
look at this Coat defense as well. Have they made
any adjustment since week one when you've seen this scene?
Demko was asked in the difference in week one and
what's coming up here in week eight as the Texans

(55:47):
host the Coats, y'all hold tight on the other side,
Fleeting Gordon, that means it's next up, taking to.

Speaker 13 (55:52):
New touchdown Texas coach sirk here, you're next up with
stand Northfleet and Chris Gordon on Sports Talk seven to ninety,
Houston's home of Longhort Football.

Speaker 5 (56:04):
Oh my goodness, all right, let's continue moving this thing
down the road. Shall we Thanks? Everybody has us preset
number one on the audio down again. The iHeartRadio app
is free at your disposal wherever you are in the
whole wide world. You can get us here at seven ninety.
You got Matt Thomas and Rossville Real coming your way

(56:24):
in about forty minutes. Matt Thomas was working last night
as the Rockets back in action, pissing us off again.

Speaker 1 (56:31):
Damn, the game was there to be won.

Speaker 5 (56:32):
Nonetheless, they come up short versus a bad Hornets team
one ten, one five. The fourth quarter gets away from
him in the Toyota Center last night, this game versus
the Coats and better not get away from the Texans.
And as we continue making our way, I talked a
lot about the you linea day, the quarterback. Yesterday was
a big day, talking about the addition of Devin White
and what we can expect from the Texans defense. The

(56:54):
injury report is out, good news. Told Toad was limited,
LASSI there was limited. So the Texans got some of
their starters uh back at least practicing, so we will see.
I want to talk about the Colts defense here in
just a little bit, Gordon, but it sounds like you
have something you want to say, oh, and the fans

(57:14):
can join us seven one, three, two two five seven
ninety something.

Speaker 1 (57:17):
Gordon Usa say De.

Speaker 4 (57:19):
Dimiko talked about the online communication issues in the in
the road environments.

Speaker 11 (57:25):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (57:25):
But one of the other things they brought up was,
you know they're facing stunts from deposing defenses. Your football
acumen take us a little bit. And because I don't
know if everybody understand when you say stunts, the basic
is the end in.

Speaker 5 (57:38):
The tackle switch switching right, like the end of yeah,
you come to the gap. So you can do stunts
a few different ways.

Speaker 7 (57:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (57:45):
You hear people say te is and the tackle goes first,
the end wraps around, or you say e t n
first tackle runs a round. But you can also get
exotic and you can have tackle and end go down
and the tackle or the end from the other side
of the line wraps around. You can add linebackers to
those stunts, so you can have the three technique drop out,

(58:06):
the mic backer who was sugared up in the A
gap standing up there as if he's gonna blitz, he
blitzes to replace the down lineman that drops out. So
byen laws and the Colts have the personnel to I mean,
you got Quity pay, you got Girvor Stewart, you can
use the spe Franklin's a good play. They've got a
lot of different guys they can get just exacerbating the

(58:26):
point that the soul line's got to communicate for beat
all the vets that they are.

Speaker 4 (58:31):
Like the Kenyan Green, I'll leave him out. But with
Tunsel and Titus and Jack Mason, I mean, you guys
played a ton of football, no question. And my thing is,
and it's not just those five offensive linemen. And so
I hear some people saying, Stan, make sure you keep
that same energy for Dalton Schultz and and Blake, not
Blake Fisher, Dalton Schultz and Kate Stover getting their ass

(58:53):
whip at the point of attack, whether it be at
the backfield or whether it be at the line of scrimmage.
U Joe Mixon and Damian Pears back there like the
backs and tight ends must be locked in.

Speaker 1 (59:04):
And that's why you practice.

Speaker 5 (59:06):
We know the team practices, but the communication you have
to be able to work through that, whether it's verbal
or if it's loud nonverbal, you have to be able
to pick up we as Jonathan Wells when he was
playing runner back and there were certain blitz packages that
were coming on certain pressures. What was said, Jay Wells said,
sometimes there's nothing said.

Speaker 1 (59:26):
That's why you watch the tape.

Speaker 5 (59:28):
Hey, guys, are we seeing the same picture when they've
got six, seven, eight guys in the box. Sometimes as
an offensive line, you just agree we're gonna stay silent.
The guard taps the center, lets the center know that
everybody's sitting ready to roll. The center snaps the ball,
and then you essentially count them as they fall. What
that essentially means is you count, excuse me, you count

(59:52):
from the outside in and you just go, Okay, who's
the threatening to my gap? And the deeper the old
line say, the more the past rush game or stunt
defines itself. That may be way nerdy from some people
that have no idea what I mean by gaps in
those things, But for some that can keep up, that's
what I mean. Yes, Gord, the Colts are talented enough

(01:00:13):
to do so. But I repeat, the Colts pressure by
design the third least or third fewest amount of times
in the league.

Speaker 1 (01:00:23):
That's just not what they do.

Speaker 5 (01:00:25):
The cause of kind of like, look, we're gonna play
what we play, but we're gonna be so good at
it that it makes you uncomfortable. Hopefully the crowd noise
isn't a factor this week, One would hope not.

Speaker 1 (01:00:38):
I mean, they're blaming that.

Speaker 4 (01:00:39):
If it's just in a crowd noise, This is a
kid communicating, Okay, well, how you let's see me sacks?

Speaker 1 (01:00:44):
Y'all give up this week.

Speaker 4 (01:00:46):
If it's a clean zero sack week, congrats, we will
be singing your praises on Monday.

Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:00:51):
To me, it's not just the sacks. And what's what
m's mind boggling is CJ's being pressured. He's also being hit.
But then you get in the run game and you
got Joe Mixon's got one hundred yard games plus in
three of his last four. So how is it that
the run game is functional? And you cause you gotta
communicate in the run game too, when these dudes are

(01:01:12):
sugared up in the A gap and standing on the
line of scrimmage, these defenders you have to communicate about, Okay,
are you gonna kick him out? Are you gonna scoop him?
Are we gonna run a duo concept where we're gonna
double right there, both guys on inside.

Speaker 1 (01:01:25):
What are we gonna do here? Is it a wham?
Is it a trap? Are we gonna run power Bob?

Speaker 5 (01:01:30):
Where you run the We're gonna line up somebody in
the full back and the fullback is gonna kick out
the end and you run.

Speaker 1 (01:01:35):
Power Bob over behind the full back. Again.

Speaker 5 (01:01:37):
I know that's complex, but I get excited and it
makes me feel good. Are you concerned about this? Coach defense?
CJ has not been turning the ball over, at least
he didn't against Green Bay. I can't remember, but CJ
didn't turn the ball over versus New England either, did he?

Speaker 7 (01:01:54):
Ye?

Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
Ain't you're a pick? He did throw the pick? That's right.

Speaker 5 (01:01:56):
That makes sense to me now, all right, so he's
got one turnover the last two games. CJ has mostly
been taking care of the football.

Speaker 1 (01:02:02):
It's not what it was like.

Speaker 4 (01:02:03):
One of his better games was Week one against US
Colt Steam twenty four, two hundred and thirty four yards,
two touchdowns, no picks, and four carries for thirteen yards.

Speaker 5 (01:02:14):
Clean game speaking of for me, uh and that was
something I wanted to hear about. Demiko Domiico mentioned something
about it was something about the run game, not moving
on to the coast, Connor, where was this at? I
know this is great radio right here, give me this
if we haven't heard it already. In cleaning up the protections,

(01:02:37):
let me hear Demiko one, Demiko one coming our way.

Speaker 6 (01:02:40):
We have a lot of things to clean up when
it comes to our protection and it's everyone involved, right
Olon tight ends backs is everybody working together, being on
the same page and just getting it done. Like we've
had multiple weeks where the same things have hurt us
multiple times. So we had to get it fixed, starting
with the coach and down to the players of finishing

(01:03:02):
and executing that.

Speaker 5 (01:03:04):
So that was from Monday, and that's my my fault.
I'll call for audio for Monday. I wanted to hear
it still relevant because he's right. Let me hear Demko
number nine please.

Speaker 6 (01:03:17):
First and foremost, they want to run the football right
getting Taylor back. He's an exceptional playmaker. He has the
stop start ability, he has to home run speed, contact
balance like they have to rely on the run game,
and they have really good guys who can run it
with JT and with Anthony Richardson. So that's where that's
where the start. And then you know with the explosive passes.

(01:03:39):
We know we gave up some explosive passes there in
our first game. So we have to be just disciplined
in our coverage and play play the defense the proper way,
and we try to eliminate those explosives. But you know,
we'll kind of see how they try to attack us.
You know, they're getting some guys back, they get bugged
their back defensively, that's going to help them, you know,
with their run game in their past Rush he's a

(01:04:02):
great player as well. So things change over weekly. You know,
things changed, and we'll see we'll be ready for whatever
they throw at us. All right, Demiko Ryans. That was
from media session yesterday, Gordon a lot of explosive plays.
I count three h two to Alec Pierce the wide
receiver form a second rounder for the Colts, and then

(01:04:22):
some receive a named Doulin. He had won a touchdown
for what some fifty some yards. So the explosives in
week one was why I think that game was so close.
Do you think the Miko in this defense has fixed
that part? The explosives, I mean, I don't know. It's

(01:04:44):
so like they're something like Green Bay had some big
pass points last week. I don't have the bombs, but uh,
let's see here, I got it. Yeah, I mean I
guess within reasons. D'artavian Wicks had a thirty yard catch.
Now that's the EXPLOREO Dobbs had a twenty three yard
that's explode so so. But I mean, yeah, they're not
sixty seventy yards and.

Speaker 1 (01:05:03):
They on for toods.

Speaker 4 (01:05:04):
I will say that Michael Pittman is having a decent
year in Indianapolis. He had sixty three yards last week.
He's only got one hundred yard game on the season,
but that's simply because I mean, you're playing quarterback roulette,
going from Anthony Richardson Joe Flacco and now they're back
to Richardson. And he hadn't had huge passing days the
last couple of weeks. But Pittman's a dude you gotta

(01:05:26):
worry about for a second round pick getting paid very well.

Speaker 5 (01:05:30):
He showed up on the injury report and so he
and Josh down both So there nick though question, what
was it?

Speaker 1 (01:05:37):
I put it here?

Speaker 4 (01:05:39):
Yesterday he was present, but he was president but not
participating back oh, he did not participate because of the bank.

Speaker 5 (01:05:46):
So We'll see what happens there, I think, And I'll
carry this over into the next segment. I just said
in a previous segment, c J. Stroud has got to
be better than Anthony Richardson or the Texans can't win.

Speaker 1 (01:06:00):
C J.

Speaker 5 (01:06:00):
Stroud can't go out there again and throw for under
one hundred yards under no circumstances. Bobby Sloyd, I hadn't
brought your name up a ton today. You got some
heat from me on Monday. Bobby's got to be better.
The old line, like the whole thing has got to
be better, and I'm banking that it will be. Will
it be enough to win the ball game?

Speaker 1 (01:06:22):
It should be.

Speaker 5 (01:06:24):
You're at home. You've seen this quarterback and his team before.
The quarterback has been nicked up, his receivers and O
line have been nicked up a little bit, and you
just got quite frankly, you just got smacked a round
up in Green Bay. The Texans should be chomping at
the bit to get back out there and prove and
demonstrate who the real Texans are in the twenty twenty

(01:06:46):
four variety. And I think just as important as the quarterbacks,
these running backs are gonna have a big say in
how the impact of this game and how this game
ultimately the finality of it. If you will, Biscuit, I'll
grab you on the other side. Whoever else wants to
call in talk some Texans, we'll get back to the

(01:07:07):
Rocket says, well, we got about a half an hour
left here on a Thursday. The legendary KB and me.

Speaker 2 (01:07:12):
Who's got next, what's coming next?

Speaker 7 (01:07:17):
What do we do next?

Speaker 3 (01:07:19):
And who's gotta take it to the next level? Back
to Datton, Northfleets and Chris Gordy. This is next up
on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 4 (01:07:35):
Man.

Speaker 9 (01:07:35):
I'm been watching Joe for a long time. You know,
I think I was in middle school, high school. He
was Oklahoma and he was a really good player there,
so you know, I've always gone to him to be
a really good player. Playgrosim last year he was really good.
So you know, now I'm just glad he's on my team,
you know, and been able to, you know, really open
up a lot of a lot of things for offense.
And I think, you know, we can continue to you know,

(01:07:57):
use him in a lot of different ways, and you
know he's gonna make me better.

Speaker 1 (01:08:00):
So you know, I'm just really blessed to have him
on the team. C. J.

Speaker 5 (01:08:06):
Stroud on the value of having Joe Mixon in the backfield.
Joe Mixon has been as advertised, at least as I
thought he would be, as pivotal to this offense. The
last time we saw the Colts, obviously, Joe Mixon went
crazy AFC Offensive Player of the Week. Thus the chain

(01:08:26):
that goes around the locker room, the H town chain
and the Gothic H. Joe mix had on a very
nice chain at Toyota Center last night, Gordon, he was
the nominate nominee. He was the participant for the first shot,
makes a free throw, everybody claps, autographs official NBA ball

(01:08:47):
for somebody. Sure it went to a good cause. Joe Mixon.
It's got to feel good for him. He's in the
city with the NBA team. Can go catch some action
court side. Saw fifty cent was in the house, somebody
else was in there. Saw some of the live down there,
sitting down. Nonetheless, Joe mixing, I'm going to ask you momentarily,
Gordy about the run game.

Speaker 4 (01:09:07):
And I heard he actually asked fifty cent, hey man,
anything you play some old line kind of beefed up
on them. That was unnecessary use here on the line
over there. N RGD didn't deserve that, and you run blocked.
Speaking of the rockets. Let's get biscuit in and then
we will get back to Texans. I appreciate your patients.
Stay a biscuit, your next up, brother, go ahead.

Speaker 7 (01:09:27):
Standing man, And now Gordon, I'm gonna take you inside
the barbecue at the African American houses were in the backyard,
and you got a young uncle over there talking to
the young fella, and you see him leading the young
fellow the wrong way. And so the old uncle got
to come on and say, now, now, no man, don't
listen to that.

Speaker 12 (01:09:46):
Don't do CJ.

Speaker 7 (01:09:48):
Don't listen to saying what state of course?

Speaker 1 (01:09:51):
Man, state of course.

Speaker 5 (01:09:52):
So you're comfortable with CJA saying just hey, my guys
are awesome. Everything is good. Like nothing to see here.
It's just gonna maagine get better in week eight because
it didn't in the first seven weeks.

Speaker 1 (01:10:02):
Your governor, Well.

Speaker 7 (01:10:04):
What you said before was saying, it don't matter the
words is the actions. So but what I am good
with is CJ being CJ. Now Stan cans talked that way.
But see that's not CJ.

Speaker 1 (01:10:15):
I just said, I just said for me. I just
said for me, for you. Here's where I'm at.

Speaker 5 (01:10:22):
So again, I'm not telling CJ what he should say.
I'm reacting to what he said. And to me, that's
not definitive enough because I've seen other Drew Brees going
to you know, Drew Brees. Drewres is a good dude,
Christian man, devout all the thing, family man. I've seen
Drew Brees absolutely.

Speaker 1 (01:10:39):
Rip some dudes.

Speaker 5 (01:10:40):
Now, if you want to take the profanity out of it.
Philip Rivers is a borderline Hall of Famer, had a
lot of success in this league. Philip Rivers absolutely rips
dudes without using profanity. So there's a way to connect, motivate,
put proverbial foot to butt without embarrassing a guy. I
just need. CJ is throwing his helmet on the sideline.

(01:11:02):
That's not a signal to meet that everything is okay.
Maybe you see a game different from me, Biscuit.

Speaker 7 (01:11:07):
No, that's what I'm saying, is saying you missing the point.
What I'm saying is CJ ain't got to where you at. Yeah,
when he gets there, he'll do it.

Speaker 1 (01:11:15):
He'll he'll do what I listen to this show. He's
gotta grow going. Y'all think y'all. Y'all think y'all the only.

Speaker 5 (01:11:25):
Ones that listen to the podcast of this show courtesy
of the free Heart Radio app. When Stroud is sitting
in the cold up, He's like, let me flip over
there and see what Uncle Flee is talking about.

Speaker 7 (01:11:33):
Let me say that why I'm telling him. Let him
be standing, let him be all right, let me get
let me get to.

Speaker 2 (01:11:39):
Jalen green Man another this is.

Speaker 7 (01:11:43):
K you was at the game last night, Sam, and
I was encouraged in one area of the game last night.
It's green answered the call when they needed him too.
And what you're saying, no, I'm saying it was a
time sing you the game last year there was the
rue going and they needed a bucket and Jalen hit

(01:12:04):
a bucket.

Speaker 1 (01:12:05):
What ten miss threes were most enjoyable?

Speaker 7 (01:12:09):
Listen, listen to me, Listen to me.

Speaker 1 (01:12:11):
It was a time saying correct me if I'm wrong.

Speaker 7 (01:12:12):
They were down five in the fourth, Jalen comes down,
lay up, foul, hit the free throw, come back down,
the next time, hit the jumper. Tie game. John went
that go five again. Jalen came back down hit the jumper.
Next time he got down home, Sam Goons had a pick.
Jalen hit a three bam ty game. What I'm saying
to you they need Jalen to be the lead scorer.

(01:12:34):
They need him to hit buckets when they need when
everybody else is going south. He did that. Now can't
he do better? Yeah? But I'm saying I've seen some
leadership in him taking accountability of taking the shots when
everybody else was scared to take him or not.

Speaker 1 (01:12:50):
I'm looking.

Speaker 4 (01:12:52):
Todd Game Night ninety eight, Jalen Green missus twenty seven
pull up jump shot.

Speaker 5 (01:12:58):
Well, for me, it's about an I'm sorry, I want
to get down here to this part. For me, it's
real simple. In the fourth quarter, LaMelo Ball led all
scores with twelve points in nine minutes and fifty five
seconds of action. What Grant Williams, I feel like a bunch.

(01:13:18):
Grant Williams had six points in that period. So in
the fourth period LaMelo Ball had twelve points. Their best
player put up double figures and really scored twelve. Jalen
Green he scored ten. But Jalen Green in the fourth
quarter was minus ten. LaMelo Ball was plus fourteen difference

(01:13:40):
Apron Shingoon. You're technically Alpron is the best player. Jalen
has the most talent, the most athleticism. Alpron's the best player.
Alpron in eight minutes and twenty seconds of action in
the fourth quarter, Alpi gave as two points quarter.

Speaker 1 (01:14:00):
It can't happen.

Speaker 4 (01:14:00):
How about right after Grant Williams since at three it's
under forty seconds to go, they go up the court,
Chigoon just loses the ball.

Speaker 1 (01:14:07):
I mean that was the game right there. They know
it frustrates the hell. You gotta follow him and it's
gonna be four or five point game and you're done.

Speaker 5 (01:14:12):
Shing Goon does and he's quite crafty, right, we call
him baby joker. He gets down there and the athleticism
isn't gonna jump off the screen. H And it's not
gonna be uber impressive when you're watching there. Uh And
I was sitting what was I.

Speaker 4 (01:14:25):
Said that he's a fourn man like I can't play
him at the five when he gets into traffic. It
drives me crazy when those post players when their lower
body like compacts in like play big. Yeah, like you're
like shack Chacken would stand wide. Let's be command the post.
Anthony Davis does it, Apron Shinggun does it. They are

(01:14:48):
other guys like Draymond plays bigger than his actual frame.
When Alpie gets in there and he goes from six,
he and the six to four stand tall in there
and deliver down there close to the bath. Who those
elbow It's around.

Speaker 5 (01:15:00):
Two points for Alfie down the stretch there In the
fourth quarter. The Rockets had nobody from the bench score
in the fourth quarter. The Hornets had fifteen points in
the fourth quarter. This is where goes hey, did the
ink dry of those extensions?

Speaker 1 (01:15:16):
Yet? Can we hold off of those for another few nown?
Gord to coming in strong.

Speaker 5 (01:15:20):
All right, let's wrap things up here from the seven
ninety studios, we'll put some closing remarks. Again, I didn't
get into Jonathan Taylor and Joe Mixon. Got to get
back to the Joe mixing things. Also, something stood out
to me for this Texans defense. How can they pull
off the dub on the other side. Let's close it out.

Speaker 3 (01:15:48):
Listen to Sports Talk seven ninety on any device with
our free iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (01:15:57):
Right, bat.

Speaker 14 (01:15:58):
I think we were a little sluppy and general even
in the first half, but definitely in the second half.
You know, you get a leader, and I think we
relaxed and tried to do it a little bit by
ourselves at times. And then sometimes it's making the missing shots,
and didn't do that that well in the first half
seven for twenty two from threes and didn't get any
better six for twenty one in the second half. But

(01:16:19):
the things we did do when the shots weren't fallings
continue to guard, and we let go of the rope
as far as that in the second half and gave
up sixty to sixty one.

Speaker 1 (01:16:26):
So shots aren't always gonna fall.

Speaker 14 (01:16:28):
You can still rely on your defense and continue to
play the right way and do the little things like
we did in the first half, which is offensive rebound
and keep them off the glass. And it kind of
flipped in the second half. They dominate us on the
boards and we didn't guard.

Speaker 5 (01:16:41):
Rockets head coach i Udoka say as the team dropped
the rope in the second half, kept shooting threes weren't
going in and they got away from him under two minutes.
Rockets didn't play, did not play their best ball, disjointed,
not in unison, and a bad team will beat you.
Lamello all got in the groove, got comfortable. He drops

(01:17:03):
twelve points and can't believe it. Nonetheless, Rockets back in
action tomorrow night over at Toyota Center. We'll talk some
more about that tomorrow, as I'll be back up in there.
Appreciate everybody that pulled up on this. Thanks everybody listened
to Ross for Rockets launch Pad as well as Rockets Rap.

(01:17:24):
And we'll see what happens game two. I think I'm
done NBA wise. Yeah, I don't have anything else to
add about the Rockets from last night. Do want to
talk some more about this Colts game coming up on Sunday?
Important game, Gordy, I gave you a stab off air
that I'll give to the people now. Since nineteen ninety,

(01:17:47):
teams that start five and three, which would be the
Texans record if they went on Sunday, sixty four percent
of the time. Gordon, you make the postseason if you
start five and three since nineteen ninety, what about six
and two? That cuts in half. If you are four
and four, it drops down to thirty two percent. Well,

(01:18:08):
what about six and two. If they win their six
and two, what's the percentage on them?

Speaker 1 (01:18:11):
No, No, this was a coat there. You're only presenting.

Speaker 4 (01:18:14):
And if they were to go on a two game
losing or lose the X two, which should create a
three game losing streak, and I'd say, if the Texans
do that, yeah, you're not playing like a playoff team.

Speaker 1 (01:18:23):
You don't deserve to make.

Speaker 5 (01:18:24):
No, if they lose on Sunday, they'll be five and three, right,
but you're saying you're even going ahead and saying step
forward if they lose an.

Speaker 1 (01:18:30):
Next Oh, if it's four and four.

Speaker 7 (01:18:31):
No.

Speaker 5 (01:18:31):
This graphic popped up on NFL Network and it's got
the Coats logo up there.

Speaker 1 (01:18:35):
It's saying the coat the Colts.

Speaker 5 (01:18:37):
If you win and you're a Colt, your playoff and
chances increase the sixty four percent if you drew. If
you drop an excuse me, and you lose your four
and four, it diminishes to thirty two percent. So important
game if you include the tiebreaker. This essentially is a
three game lead type of game on Sunday. For those

(01:18:59):
that did not hear how I opened the show, this
is the first time that Anthony Richardson is facing an
opponent twice in the same season. That was not the
case all of last year.

Speaker 4 (01:19:09):
Your biggest threat in the division is the Colts, and
so if you eat them twice, yeah, you'll feel good.

Speaker 5 (01:19:14):
Oh something else, juicy, I saw you are a little
nervous about Anthony Richardson and how he runs with the football.

Speaker 1 (01:19:22):
I did see this. Where was this?

Speaker 4 (01:19:25):
At three rushing touchdowns in his two starts against the Texans.

Speaker 5 (01:19:30):
The Texans are next to last in the league, second
worst in giving up rush yards to the opposing quarterback.
Eight point two yards per carry is what they allow
the quarterbacks in twenty twenty four. But think of who
they've played.

Speaker 4 (01:19:49):
Caleb who could run, Josh Allen, who could run, Caleb Williams.

Speaker 5 (01:19:55):
Jordan Love. I don't think did anything. I don't recall
the play where he had a bunch of yardage. He
can move his lick.

Speaker 1 (01:20:01):
He can move. I'm saying I don't think he did.
I don't think he had to. Yeah he didn't. He
didn't record rus.

Speaker 5 (01:20:06):
Drake May is thought to be a dual threat guy.
He can run around a little bit. Sam Donald, run
on Sam Donald. Yeah, that was the one. Drake May
had five carries for thirty eight yards. He was their
leading rushier. If you recall that skewed a little bit,
but I mean usual. Even last year you saw some guys.
Kyler Murray, for example, came here and created some problems.

Speaker 1 (01:20:27):
With his legs.

Speaker 4 (01:20:28):
Wait till a week from tonight when they host or
when they travel to take on Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 5 (01:20:32):
Who will not be scrambling. He can use his like
Aaron Rodgers doesn't do that anymore. He's old man. Now
he's sitting back there trying to throw BB's to device.
Just see what kind of rushes he Stop this. This
is up, sir, speaking of Russian football. Do have some
things when you're done about Joe Mixon because he's a stud.

Speaker 1 (01:20:48):
He does.

Speaker 4 (01:20:48):
Against Denver he had five rushes for twenty six yards,
and against New England he had eleven yard run with
eighteen rushing yards.

Speaker 1 (01:20:54):
So he can do it. Stop it what they're not.

Speaker 5 (01:20:59):
Anthony Richardson can put two touchdowns on the board with
his legs. Yes, Josh Allen can win a game with
his legs. I'm almost guaranteed I'm gonna lock it in.
Anthony Richardson will have a rushing touchdown. I will see
that bet Anthony Richardson will be held out. And I'm
not talking about a toush push from the one yard line.
I'm talking about a real running.

Speaker 4 (01:21:17):
Touching, rushing touchdowns, a rushing touch No, I'm not talking
about a damn quarterback sneak on the one nest. You Oh,
I gotta break off a seventy yard touchdown round No,
I'll settle for seven. De Miko finds a way, We'll
have a eight rushing touchdowner sech.

Speaker 5 (01:21:30):
Devin White is going to run down Anthony Richardson and
keep him out of the end zone.

Speaker 1 (01:21:34):
That'd be great.

Speaker 5 (01:21:35):
Speaking of Russian I saw this Joe Mixon. If Joe
Mixon rushes for at least one hundred yards on Sunday
and a touchdown, he'll be the first non rookie to
achieve that feet in four of his first five games
on a new team in NFL history. Think about that.

(01:21:55):
No one has been in the league a second season
or longer has rushed for one hundred yards and a
touchdown on new team for their first five games.

Speaker 1 (01:22:07):
It's pretty cool.

Speaker 5 (01:22:09):
I know I got a stud here going to anything
else from you on Texans before we talk about stud X.
I'm gonna take this phone con from trade. Yeah, all right,
let's do this phone call and then we'll wrap up
here on a Thursday, get ready for some Thursday night football.

Speaker 1 (01:22:20):
Who we got? Is it Broncos Vikings? Is that what
I saw? Broncos? Or playoff? Who is? It's Vikings? And somebody?

Speaker 4 (01:22:26):
Yes, it's the Vikings at the Los Angeles Rams Rams
Broncos Sellers Broncos on Monday night.

Speaker 1 (01:22:32):
That's why I got Broers Trey in Webster.

Speaker 5 (01:22:35):
I don't know if you went the TC last night,
but I'm sure you were watching Let's close out with
the Rockets.

Speaker 15 (01:22:39):
Coming, Yes, sir, considering the way the bustle Celtics beat
their opponents in the first game of the season, the
template template was set by Boston and the Rockets had
the same opportunity when they were out by eighteen points.
But the proverbial boot on the neck or throat, the

(01:23:02):
Rockets did not have the killer instinct, So you were right.
They're not. They don't have the killer instick yet. They're
still little puppies. They need to get the killer instinct now,
just like the Celtics. I mean the Celtics are ready
to go back to the title again.

Speaker 4 (01:23:17):
Calling a mamba mentality, where's the mamba real quick? Because
I got to do this like a garden snake. Will
you focus real quick?

Speaker 5 (01:23:26):
Did last night's outcome surrendering an eighteen point lead at
one point for the Rockets? Did it change your perspective
and prediction of where they'll finish in the West.

Speaker 4 (01:23:38):
No, you can't overreact to one loss. I agree, but
but it certainly used the air out of the balloon.
After all the excitement and hype for the Aus, it's
the same squad back. You're like, oh, they're only going
to be better, right, And then I had multiple dms
of people this morning saying, same old Rockets, same team
we saw disappear in the second half of games, same
old and don't feel that way the Rockets.

Speaker 5 (01:23:59):
Do you have some stuff's Alfred shin Gun he was
an All Star candidate the year ago. We'll see if
he can be better. Jalen Green feeling better, pockets a
lot healthier, as he did some good things over there
