Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello and welcome to Outspoken.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
It's your dose of the hottest influencer and pop culture
news twice a week.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
I'm Sophie Torbor, I'm Kate Torba and I'm Amy Torber.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
And coming up on today's show, Tammy Hembro declares she.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Has a boyfriend.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Victoria Beckham publicly addresses her feud with her son Harry
and Meghan's well wind visit to Australia and is it
time to bring back the distinction between influences and celebrities.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
But first.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Laura Henshaw and her husband Dalton have sold their Brighton
mansion for at least eight point five million dollars. Last month,
they privately listed their home through White Fox real Estate. However,
it didn't take long for the media to reveal who
the house's famous owners were, and it didn't take long
for the property to sell either, It was only on
the market for twelve days. In terms of the selling price,
(00:51):
the home was listed between eight point five and nine
point one million dollars. Now, while the price is yet
to be revealed, Laura and Dalton's agent confirmed media that
the home was sold within the advertised price, so they
at least got eight point five million dollars for it,
which is a pretty good deal considering they purchased the
home back in July twenty twenty one for just four
(01:11):
point four million dollars.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
I say, just, but I mean, you're almost doubling it there.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
I've noticed influencers like Laura who really base their brand
on relatability and coming across as very likable. They often
don't show their followers much of their house, Like they
will put up Instagram stories, but everything is a very
tight shot, so you don't actually see how nice the
place is. There's actually a podcaster I follow that does
that too, and I'm so desperate to see more of
(01:36):
their house that every time they post a real or
a story, I'm like pausing it, I'm zooming in, I'm screenshotting.
I'm like, oh, I swear that that was you know
one of those fridges has the ice blocks that come
out of it, Like that's obviously the sign that you're rich.
In their defense, I think it's because taol poppy syndrome
is so rife in Australia, and I think a lot
of influencers don't want to necessarily look like they're showing off.
(01:57):
I mean, it's kind of the opposite of influencers like
Georgie Steve Vinson, who wants you to know how wealthy
they are and want you to know how successful they
are so they can sell manifestation courses to you.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
But if you're trying to sell.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
A brand of being relatable, you don't want people at
home to know that your house shits all over theirs
and is ten times better than it on that is
anyone else surprised by Steph Claire Smith's house because she
sold her mansion that was this brand new home and
she moved into this quite large property. It's big enough
to have horses on it, and she often shows off
the fields and.
Speaker 1 (02:28):
It looks very grand.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
However, the house wasn't modern, so they've decided to renovate
their shd and essentially move into that while they bulldoze
the rest of it and build what I'm assuming will
be some sort of palatial mansion on it. And while
the actual renovations are nice, I'm thinking, hang on, you're
listed on the AFI Young Rich List, as you know,
worth nearly fifty million dollars. I reckon, it must be
(02:50):
a pretty nice shed that they're living in. I think
that maybe that it's not actually a shed and it's
more of a granny flat situation. The said shed's probably
bigger than my whole house, but I mean, and it
looks nice and everything, but it just surprises me. I'm like, oh, okay,
do you think that Laura will address her house sale
on their podcast.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Only if there's backlash.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
They only seem to like addressing things when they can
get really angry about it.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
I hate to know how many disclaimers were around it.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yeah, that's what I'm imagining her almost apologizing for her success,
which is actually quite sad because if she was a
male business owner, she wouldn't have to do any of this.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
She'd just own it.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Whatever you feel like confessing something you get off your chest.
It can be literally anything.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Tammy Hembro has confirmed she has a boyfriend. She excitedly
confessed the news on White Fox Boutiques After Hours podcast
while she was in the US for Coachella. Let's take
a listen. I have a whole boyfriend.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Oh my god, that's huge news, Miss Tammy. You know,
are you so happy?
Speaker 4 (03:49):
I am?
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Oh, you look really happy. I am so happy, like
so so happy.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Oh, I'm excited for you. Well, the Tearsman's filled we
won't we won't go too far into the will leave
people wanting more now.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
That boyfriend is, of course, twenty three year old Sydney
based model Grayson T.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Mowana, who she hard launched on.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
The red carpet at the Wuthering Heights premiere in Sydney
back in February.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
What I want to know is what does she mean
by a whole boyfriend? Like did she have half a
boyfriend last fight?
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Like maybe it was a cute see way of saying
I have a boyfriend, like a real life boyfriend. It
seemed and I feel mean to Tammy saying this, but
it seemed kind of juvenile the way she's.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Like, I have a whole boyfriend.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Like I couldn't help but roll my eyes, only because
I just knew the reception that she was going to
get in the comment section with people being like, oh,
this is gonna last two seconds. I almost felt like
the reference to him being a whole boyfriend was kind
of like this Freudian slip that you know he is
over age, like he isn't an adult. Yeah, it was
(04:51):
an interesting choice of words considering she has been criticized
for dating a younger man. I'm desperate for Tammy to
find someone nice and for her to be That's why
I find it so difficult to watch this relationship play
out because it feels like you're watching a car crash
and I can just foresee the fallout that is going
to happen when this relationship ends. Yeah, the thing that
(05:13):
Timmy's got to be careful about is if things go
sour with Grayson, he may spill his guts. I could
imagine him jumping on a podcast. We've said before, we
think he's in this relationship for clout.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
But the difference between this relationship and her relationship with
Matt Sakowski.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Is it seems like no one really cares.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Like it's kind of like, h we've seen this before,
some young guy that is not going to end well
with the difference with Matt was that he actually had
a profile himself. And then the way that they were
moving so quickly with you know, quickly getting engaged and
you know, there were dramas that were unfolding. There was
lots for us to get invested with. But with this
(05:51):
relationship so far, I'm not invested. I'm just rolling my
eyes just because it just seems like a rebound. I
don't think anyone's actually taking the relationship seriously.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
I just want to know what Amy and Emily think
about this.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
Because they were so vocal about their distaste towards Tammy's husband,
Matt Zakowski, surely they can't be a fan of Grayson.
I'm actually disappointed that Grayson doesn't have his own podcasts
like Matt Szakowski, because I would love for him to
interview them like Matt did and them to share what
they really think. Maybe the sisters are going for a
different approach this time because with Matt it didn't actually
(06:25):
work them being quite mean to him. They still ended
up getting married. It was a disaster for Tammy. So
maybe they think if we pretend that we like this guy,
maybe Tammy will work it.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Out for herself.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Emily Hembroy does have her own podcasts now, so at
least there is an opportunity for her maybe to invite
Tammy on the show and grill her and show her
distaste towards this guy. Yeah, I don't think she'd platform
Grayson on there, but I would love to hear what
he has to say because I'm not ultra impressed by
the videos he posts, all the photos. But I mean,
to be fair, we haven't heard much from him. He
(06:56):
might be a nice guy, but I mean the picture
that's been painted by his ex girlfriend and who he
allegedly was still with when he started dating Tammy, it
really hasn't made us like him. I mean, there's red
flags all over this guy. It seems like Tammy has
left the door open for Grayson to start making an
appearance across her social media by declaring that she has
a boyfriend. Now, well, it seems like that's already happening
(07:17):
because over the weekend, Tammy posted a photo dump from
her appearance at Channel nine's fundraising telephone So she was
manning the phones and Grayson was there with her. So
she posted this mirror selfie and she was standing in
front of the makeup chair at Channel nine and Grayson
was sitting in the background on the chair, so his
head was to the back of the mirror. However, there
(07:39):
was a mirror opposite him and it was almost like
he was craning his neck, so his face appeared in
that mirror because he knew it would be reflected into
the photo. Now, that is desperation at its finest, isn't it?
And it is just such an ick. If anything, I
feel like a good guy would be trying to avoid
being in the background and just wanting to keep a
(08:01):
low profile and not wanting to be seen. You can
see what his intentions are when he does things like that.
Has anyone else noticed that since Tammy's gone public with
Grayson that Matt Zakowski seems to be amping up the
content about how much happier he is now. It's almost
like he's trying to cling onto that fifteen seconds of
fame or that fame adjacency he had with Tammy.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
It's like, hang on, I'm still legally her husband.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
You can sense that he knows that his notoriety is
waning and he's trying to reinject himself into that storyline.
If anything, this whole new relationship makes me like Matt
Zakowski more. He seems like such a catch compared to Grayson,
Like he just seems like a nice, normal guy and
he's gotten really fit. Recently, he posted this TikTok. It
was a comparison shot with last year when he was
(08:46):
with Tammy looking really miserable, and then it was what
he looks like now, and his face was all chiseled.
He's looking amazing. His eyes looked a lot brighter in
the second one. It was almost like he was rejuvenated
from within. Now he has been making a few thinly
veiled swipes at Tammy over the last week. So he
shared his top five horror movies and in second place,
(09:09):
he wrote September twenty twenty three to February twenty twenty five. Now,
for those not following, that is the timeframe he was
with Tammy. It's interesting because he's finally revealed what month
they broke up, which was only two months after they
got married, so it must have been right after that
Australian open fight that we spoke about back in twenty
twenty five. It's actually crazy. I wonder if he is
(09:31):
ever going to spill the tea because I noticed there
was someone who commented on one of his recent TikTok saying, please,
we need to know what happened, and he love hearted it.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
So you never know.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
I mean, I think it's probably coming at some point.
I almost feel like in order for it to have
had more impact, he needed to do it sooner when
he was more in the zeitgeist, because you know, Tammy's
moved on, Everyone's sort of moved their attention away to
this new relationship.
Speaker 5 (09:58):
To be honest, like, just because I have followers doesn't
make me any better than anybody else, truly.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
US content creator Pierre Kirghis has called out a fellow
influencer for taking herself too seriously. Both women were invited
to attend Roads event at Coachella, but behave very differently
when Hailey Bieber arrived.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
Let's take a listen to what she said, y'all.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
I was at an event with other influencers and I
was freaking out, okay because I saw.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
Hailey Bieber hourly, motherfucker Bieber.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
She was right there, I louily could touch her, and
I was I was freaking out, Okay, I was pulling
out my oh regarded tell why this influencer. Next she goes,
girl relaxed, like you're acting like a fan. We need
to we need to act like our place. What this
is the problem these days, y'all?
Speaker 5 (10:47):
I feel like influencers think the celebrities, Like, let's bring
back the distinction between US celebrity and an influencer, please, because.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
What do you mean.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
Is it wrong that I agree with the influencer who
told Pierre to chill out, because if I was lucky
enough to be in a room with someone that I
really admired, I wouldn't want to go up and fangel them,
because I'd want to act as if I'm on a
level playing field to them, because then I'm more likely
to be able to befriend them in the future, because
if you come up to someone and start kissing their
(11:23):
feed and freaking out and screaming at them like that
would make them feel super uncomfortable. I think Pierre had
a point though, when she said that she's no better
than anyone else just because she films herself on her
iPhone and she was acting her place in the sense
that she is a fan of Hailey Bieber and to
put her into perspective for those who don't follow Pierre,
(11:43):
she has over one point five million followers on TikTok
and around half a million on Instagram, so she's not
just some micro influencer.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Yeah, but that's the.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Whole difficulty with the influencer world at the moment. It's
so oversaturated that one person walking down the street could
have a million followers and you'll have no clue.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
As to who they are.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Oh, I totally agree. There are definitely different tiers of influencers.
But I would say an influencer moves up into that
celebrity tier when they're recognized away from social media and
they're known by the mainstream media. I also think another
element is if they live the life of a celebrity
in terms of their wealth and getting followed around by paparazzi.
(12:23):
So I would say influencers who have moved into that
celebrity category are Molly May, Alex Earl, James Charles, you
know people like that who they've gone up a tier.
I just think there's different categories of celebrities as well,
whether you're an A lister, whether you're an IT girl.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
At the moment, Hailey.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Bieber is the it girl, particularly because Justin Bieber has
just played at Coachella and obviously because of the success
of Road. I think that a lot of people, even
if they're in the public eye, I seem a little
bit I don't want to use the word beneath her,
but they probably would be excited to be in the
same room as her. But I would say Hailey Bieber
and Molly May aren't not too dissimilar in terms of fame. Okay,
(13:03):
Hailey Bieber is an a lister in the US, Molly
May would be an.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
A lister in the UK.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
I think people really denigrate this term influencer, but she
is massive there. She's had her own doco. She literally
sells out everything. When she broke up with Tommy Fury,
the publicity was compared to that of Prince Charles and
Princess Diana. So while I think someone like Molly May
probably would fan gal Hailey Bieber in the sense that
she wouldn't see herself in the same standing as Hailey
(13:29):
Bieber because she's quite self denigrating, I actually think that
they are quite equally matched.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
I have to disagree.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
I think that Molly May is really well known in
the UK and Australia because of Love Ireland being played here,
but I don't think that she's on the international level
that Hailey Bieber is on. But that's not what I'm saying.
What I'm saying is if Molly May was there at
Hailey Bieber's road event, I don't think she would be
going like, oh my god, I'm so scared to.
Speaker 5 (13:53):
Talk to her.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Ah and screaming with her phone.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Would she Yeah, I definitely don't think that she would.
I think she's smart enough to do that and more
socially aware. I just think from a networking perspective, if
you're an influencer and you've been hand picked and invited
to one of these events, you really shouldn't be losing
your mind whoever's headlining it, because you've been invited for
a reason. That being said, though, I also don't think
that you should be arrogant and you know, just be
(14:19):
like hey babe to Haley Bibe. I think you should
still speak to the person with respect and remember that
they're headlining the event, they're an international celebrity. You are
a guest attending.
Speaker 6 (14:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
I mean, I think ultimately it was just cringe that
the influencer told her to act her play like no
one wants to hear that, and I think Pierre was
probably being a bit of a pick me by saying, oh,
I'm definitely not in her level. Like. It was a
very popular message for her to share with her followers.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
I'm famous.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
From my.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
For a smoky eye.
Speaker 2 (14:55):
Mainstream media are reporting the Victoria Beckham has broken her
silence on her strangement from her son Brooklyn, the reality
is not as dramatic as the headline makes out. Okay,
can you tell us what's actually gone on? Well, Unfortunately
for those of us wanting more insight into the family drama,
Victoria has not dished the dirt on her son. She has, however,
(15:17):
publicly addressed the feud for the first time in an
interview with The Wall Street Journal, and her comments come
three months after Brooklyn's six page Instagram statement where he
accused his parents of trying to ruin his marriage and
putting brand Beckham before anything else.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
Now.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
When asked about her estrangement from her son, Victoria avoided
referring to Brooklyn by name, and said, we love our
children so much. We've always tried to be the best
parents that we can be. And you know, we've been
in the public eye for more than thirty years right now,
and all we've ever tried to do is protect our
children and love our children. And you know, that's all
I really want to say about it. So she really
(15:57):
didn't say much except for the fact that they love
their children. So reading between the lines, she's saying, we
love our children. We've done everything we can to protect them.
I wonder if that's a bit of a potshot at
Nikola and we've tried to be the best parents that
we can beat. Yeah, and it's not our fault that
our son's acting out like this oil brat Now. In
terms of this feature in the Wall Street Journal, it
(16:19):
was largely focused on her fashion and beauty brand, so
she was asked if the negative press had affected her brand,
and she said no. There are also a couple of
other quotes that you could read into, so she said,
being a parent of young adult children and adult children, gosh,
I mean, it's very different from having little children. She
then said, I think we're trying to do the best
(16:40):
we can. She also made a comment that when she
gave birth to Brooklyn, who was her first son, she
was twenty four and almost a child herself. So I
wondered if this was a bit of a nod towards
the fact that Brooklyn's only twenty seven and maybe he
doesn't really know what he's doing at the moment because
he's only a kid. I think she was very intentional
about the words that she used used in this interview,
(17:01):
and she would have spoken to her PR team in
depth before taking part in this interview, and how her
words could come across and maybe the way that she
could still come across as being polite about him, but
sort of trying to point out things to the general public. Yeah,
I mean, this interview from Victoria really isn't dramatically out
of character for brand Beckham. They are all about extreme
(17:22):
image control. What it has signaled, though, is this notable
shift in how they're dealing with the family dramas. So
rather than tackling this issue with silence, which is how
they usually deal with the early stages of dramas like this,
they're now dealing with it with very controlled commentary. And
what Victoria's statement has done is formally acknowledge that there
(17:43):
is an issue, even if she's been vague about what's
going on behind the scenes. Yeah, I mean, I think
it makes sense to change TAC because in this instance,
it really has been taken out of their hands because
Brooklyn has gone public with this information, so they can
no longer pretend that it's not happening and that it's
all just rumors. I also wonder if they've chosen to
acknowledge it considering they have a lot of public support,
(18:05):
because when this all broke. I think Brooklyn was expecting
everyone to go, oh my god, the Beckhams are horrible.
Where team Brooklyn, But the reception definitely has been pro
the Beckhams. Yeah, And I think they're also at this
point where silence can no longer control the narrative. It's
a bit like what we're seeing happen with the Royal family.
I mean, they've always gone by that motto, never complain,
(18:26):
never explain.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
However that is.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
No longer working anymore, particularly in this social media world
that we're living in where anyone can put out public commentary.
And I think she's done a good job with her
statement because she didn't go out there and bash Brooklyn
or address the allegation. She didn't go into too much detail,
but the statement would have pulled on the heartstrings of parents. Mean,
it feels like a bit of damage control as well.
She's trying to repair brand Beckham, and she's doing so
(18:50):
by sort of tiptoeing around the issue whilst reiterating that
she loves her child. And she may be hoping that
Brooklyn hears her comments because her and David seem pretty
keen to get Brooklyn back in the family. They've posted
a few things for his birthday. Maybe they're hoping he
sees the commentary and gets in touch.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
I think that's a bit earnest.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
I think this is all about repairing brand Beckham, particularly
because this all blew up after Brooklyn asked Victoria to
stop talking about him publicly and posting about him on
social media. He definitely doesn't want to appear on her
social media, so I don't think this has anything to
do with trying to patch things up with him. I
think that would be going on behind the scenes.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
I think it's a bit of both.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
I definitely think that they want to repair brand Beckham,
but ultimately they want their son back, and this is
their only.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
Way of being able to reach out to him. He's
blocked them on Instagram.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Presumably he's probably blocked their phone numbers and their emails
as well. This is their way of trying to speak
to him through the media, which.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Is so sad.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
The timing is also really interesting because the article came
out on Thursday, and Victoria celebrated her fifty second birthday
on Friday. Side note, I can't believe it's been two
years since her fiftieth, and it seem like David was
working in overdrive for the fact that Victoria wouldn't be
receiving a birthday message from Brooklyn, so he wrote, Happy
Birthday to the one and only Posh Spice. We love
(20:11):
you so much and will make sure you have the
most special day as the best wife, mum, friend, and
of course Jim partner you deserve too, Happy Birthday. We
love You's sad thing about birthdays because so many people
in your life.
Speaker 1 (20:24):
Or God have their way to do lovely.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
Things for you, but often it's the people who don't
contact you that you notice more and can be really heartbreaking.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
There's always that.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
Thing that people say they crowne their birthday, and it's
probably because of the people who haven't reached out, or
it reminds you of the people that aren't in your
life anymore.
Speaker 6 (20:43):
Every day. From ten years I've been bullied in attack,
and I was the most true person.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
In the entire world life.
Speaker 6 (20:50):
I'm still here, and so when I think of all
of you and what you're experiencing, I think so much
of that is having to realize that you're that industry,
Billiam Dorber, industry that is completely acrid and predicated on
foultage to get clips. That's not going to change.
Speaker 7 (21:10):
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle received a rock star reception
when they jetted into Australia last week for a whirlwind
four day visit. The often divisive couple appeared to win
over the public, with reports suggesting Buckingham Palace's worst fears
maybe coming true now. So very early on, Harry and
Meghan's team shot down suggestions that this was a Royal tour.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
Yeah. In the lead up to Harry and Meghan touching
down in Australia, their team was adamant this was not
a role tour and they were technically right because when
they were last year in twenty eighteen, they were hosted
by the federal government and they also embarked on a
sixteen day tour filled with seventy six engagements. This time around,
there was no police escort waiting for them when they
(21:53):
got off their commercial Quantus flight, and they did not
stay at government own residents and that is because Curry
and Meghan are of course no longer at working Royal,
so they are not entitled to any of that treatment.
So did the government pay for any of their security?
Because I've heard a lot of complaints about, oh why
is the Australian government covering for the Some taxpayer money
did go into security for them, but that's what happens
(22:16):
when any major celebrity comes to Australia, So all.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
The boomers can calm down.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
Yeah, Now, Harry and Meghan were visiting Australia as private
citizens for a mix of commercial and charitable commitments, and
they packed a lot into.
Speaker 1 (22:29):
Their four day trips.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
So Harry gave a keynote speech at the inter Edge Summit,
which side note I want to point out he didn't
actually get paid for. The money went to charity, while
Meghan headlined her Best Life's Women's Retreat, which ended up
costing two to three thousand dollars for a ticket. It's
not clear how much money she got paid for that.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
Megan also made.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
A cameo appearance on Master Chef Australia, presumably as a
bit of cross for motion for her jam I'm actually
committing to master Chef this year. Before Sunday's lawd episode,
my husband and I are like, are we going to
do it? Is this the year we actually watch it properly?
Because I still love it. Back in the day part
of the reason why I want to watch it is
to see Megan on it, and I also want to
(23:11):
know what's going on with these influences, because there were
these photos that dropped the Sophicacia, Lillly Brown and Jack
Kenny and a bunch of other influencers on set with
Megan Markele Like, what is going on? Yeah, it looks
like they're contestants. So I don't know if they're doing
a Celebrity Master Chef this year. If they are, I
would actually commit to tuning in as well. Getting back
to Harry and Meghan's itinery, they also visited the Royal
(23:33):
Children's Hospital in Melbourne as well as a mental health
program at Swinburn University. Harry was also at a November
event with the Western Bulldogs where he rubbed shoulders alongside
a couple of influencers including Steph Gless Smith and Laura Henshaw.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
As well as doctor Gollie.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Doctor Gollie was posting everywhere about this event.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
I mean he was in good company. There wasn't here.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
I heard the journalists weren't allowed to film or take
notes when how he spoke at this event. That's why
I don't know how doctor Golly was allowed to film,
Like how did how is is it? They're like, Oh,
you're a doctor, that's fine, You're not a journalist.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
He's a doctor, it's fine. He can do whatever he wants.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
It's a weird way to tackle the event from a
media perspective, because wouldn't that mean that he would be
quite badly misquoted? Because I heard a journalist speaking on
Mom and mir and she was retelling what he said
in his own words, and I was like, isn't that
really just like space for it to be misinterpreted and
people to add on their own spill.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
Well.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
I think that because they're no longer royals, they wanted
to speak freely and get really vulnerable with the audiences there,
and I don't think that they wanted certain things quoted
in the media, which I understand. Some of the images
that really stood out to me on this royal tour
that's not really a royal tour is when Harry and
Meghan met with the Bondai shooting survivors. Yeah, I saw
them posing alongside a lot of the lifeguards and it
(24:54):
just looked so Australian. I think that those photos would
have gone all over the world and it was really
touching to see them there speaking with the survivors. I mean,
as you say, Ky, this definitely was a royal tour.
I mean, Harry also visited the Australian War Memorial. They
sailed on the Sydney Harbor with Invictus veterans. They were
there putting their best foot forward. This had all of
(25:15):
the touches of a royal tour, but without the titles.
It's quite interesting because before the couple landed in Australia,
the media coverage was fairly negative about the trip. Publications
accused them of trying to monetize their royal status, and
they raised concerns Kate, as you touched on before about
taxpayer funded security, and no one quite knew how the
(25:37):
Australian public was going to react to the couple and
whether we'd see people lining the streets to catch a
glimpse of them. Because since twenty eighteen they have been
incredibly divisive. I mean we've seen their tel all interviews
with Oprah, their documentary, their autobiographies.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
They have been very on the nose, particularly with boomers.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
But it really seems like all was forgiven on this
trip and that they had lost their royal shine.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
They were greeted like absolute rock stars.
Speaker 2 (26:04):
We saw locals gathering in public spaces, hospitals, Bondi Beach
and even paying enormous amounts of money just to see
them speaking at private events.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
It is funny how quickly people backflip.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
One second they're like, I can't stand them, and then
they visit Australia, they give us a little bit of
a nod and say, hey, we remember you guys. We
like it down Under, and it's like, oh my god,
that the best people I've ever met.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
Oh my god. They looked at me and smiled.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
A lot of people interviewed we're saying, Meghan and Harry,
they're just normal, friendly people. I mean, I feel like
we all got caught up in this Sussex fever again.
I wonder if it's because Australia doesn't get many celebrities,
so anytime anyone of notoriety visits here, we feel so
lucky and thrilled and we just go nuts. I mean,
this just proves the whole reason why the Royal family
does royal tours. It's to actually connect with people and say, hey,
(26:52):
we're humans behind this entity. And I think that's what
Harry and Meghan have done so well. They've gone out
to the public and said, Okay, you have this perception
of us that has been created by the media.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
This is actually us. We're just normal people.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
And I think once you really take the mask off
and get amongst people, that's how you change people's perceptions.
It's safe to say that the Royal family would have
been watching this visit very closely because back in twenty
twenty during the Sandringham Summit, Harry and Meghan proposed this
exact arrangement to the Queen. They wanted this half in,
half out arrangement where they could split their time between
(27:28):
royal duties and private life and essentially make money be
independently away from the Royal family. And of course that
didn't happen. We had megs it in twenty twenty. However,
this Australian trip has really changed things because despite actually
not officially being Royals, they received the royal treatment.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
I mean, crowds were lining the.
Speaker 2 (27:47):
Street, they attended charitable events. The only thing that was
different was they were actually able to pursue their own
commercial projects and make money off this trip. And this
trip generated revenue in way the Palace has tried hard
to prevent. So Sydney Morning Herald journalist Bronti Gosling wrote,
Buckingham Palace's fears have come true. Harry and Meghan can
(28:10):
have their cake and.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Eat it too. In what would have been a further
blow to the palace.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
Meghan launched her latest business venture as soon as they
touched down in Australia.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
So she has.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Launched a profile on AI fashion platform one Off. So
one Off is a fashion discovery platform very similar to
LTK where public figures can share details of their outfits
with shoppable affiliate links. So not only is she making
money off these affiliate links, but she is also a
new investor in this platform.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
This is a genius move.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
By Megan off the back of this Australian tour because
all eyes are on her. Everyone wants to know what
she's wearing and where they can buy it from, and
she's giving them that information through this app and she's
making a percentage off the sales. Yeah, while she was
in Australia, they added seven shoppable looks from her tour
and Megan really lent into Australian owned brands during the tour.
(29:03):
So she championed a lot of local fashion designers, including
Karen Gee, Saint Agne, Camilla and Mark and Scanland and Theodore.
I was obsessed with her looks and I shared this
on Instagram and someone questioned me.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
Saying why all of the looks are so basic?
Speaker 2 (29:18):
And I answered that listener by saying, well, I guess
I'm a bit of a basic bitch because I just
think that everything she wears just looks so clean and
put together. Yes, it's simple, but it always looks amazing.
Is you click on it and go oh, I probably
could afford this, And then the shirt's like six hundred bucks,
Like someone needs to post the dupes of the outfit.
I really wanted her Mamma shirt that she was wearing.
I reckon we should all buy one and get it
(29:39):
and wear it on our Mum's group podcast. I didn't
like that one. I thought that was probably her worst look.
I'm not into graphic T shirts, so remind me of
like twenty ten. I liked how Harry and Meghan were
matching in khaki at one point that was from Saint Agne.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
They look for it.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
Me she's clearly making bank of this, but she isn't
doing anything to mend the bridges between her and the
Royal family. Has reported that sources close to the Royal
family are a ghast that Megan is using her Australian
charity stops with Prince Harry to sell clothes. Page six,
which is a celebrity gossip section of The New York Post, wrote, the.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
Queen must be rolling over in her grave over Mega
Markle's outfit promotion during charity stops.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
I personally think it's only fair that Megan can benefit
from what's been dubbed the Megan Effect. I mean, for
so long we've heard about how whenever Meghan steps out
in something, that item of clothing instantly sells out.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
Why can't she profit off it?
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Particularly because now she's not getting handouts from the Royal Family,
She's having to make her own money. She's built her
own name as a fashion icon. Why is only influencers
who can benefit off this? Why can't I don't think
she needs a hand out from affiliate links. I understand
where the Royal family are coming from in that this
is just so different to what they're used to. We've
never seen someone who is Royal adjacent actually making money
(30:57):
off their fashion which is ironic considering that the role
of the princess essentially is to be a little bit
of a clothes horse and stand there and look pretty
and wave and not say anything offensive. And I actually
love that Megan Markle is making money off this fashion
influence that she clearly has, Like why not.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
I think it's absolute genius.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
And I also think at the same time, she is
giving increased visibility to a lot of brands, particularly local brands,
through her trip to Australia. I think if Princess Diana
was living in this era, she would have done the
same thing once leaving the role. Certly, she's buying the
clothes herself, like, these aren't clothes bought from taxpayer dollars
like Princess Kate's.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Well.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
I don't know if she's necessarily buying the clothes, or
she's been gifted the clothes by these brands, or there's
some sort of other arrangement, but at the same time,
not from taxpayer money. It's funny because as soon as
the photos started coming out of Megan on this tour,
I was like, I need everything she's wearing. I want
to find out where it's from. And it's so great
that now there is one place I can go and
(31:57):
shop all of her looks. From a lot of our
time it does. That is where we're going to leave
things today. If you want to hear more from us,
we drop a bonus episode of Outspoken every Thursday for
Outspoken Plus subscribers. All the details to sign up are

(32:19):
If you want to listen to that, It's available on Apple, Spotify,

Speaker 1 (32:24):
This podcast was recorded on.
Speaker 2 (32:26):

Speaker 1 (32:29):
We pay respect to elders past and present.
