(00:00):
Hi everyone, hope all is well.

(00:03):
I just wanted to give you an update on what's been going on in my life, actually in my professional
career.
What I wanted to tell you was that when I first became a nurse, I thought I had an idea
of what I wanted to do.
You know, for me, I originally wanted to be a PA before I even thought about nursing.

(00:27):
I came into nursing because I wanted to be a nurse practitioner because I didn't want
to compete trying to get into PA school.
But I realized from working in step down and working in the ED that I didn't want to be
a provider.
That kind of put me in a little funk or you can call a standstill because I originally

(00:51):
came to nursing because I wanted to be a provider and I didn't want to be a provider.
So now I was looking for my fit and I looked everywhere for it.
I went from unit to unit.
I went from step down to the ED.
I went from the ED to pre-op, from pre-op to endo, from endo back to the ED, to the

(01:15):
ICU, to inpatient case management.
And I found my fit.
It took a bit, but I know that I wanted to be on the graduate side of the house and I
wanted to be an advanced practice RN.
I just didn't want to be a provider.
So I found an advanced practice RN role called clinical nurse specialist, which I'm currently

(01:39):
in grad school now.
Clinical nurse specialist specialize in patient populations just like nurse practitioner.
You have your population like adults or pediatrics, but the role of a clinical nurse specialist
is that of being an expert clinician.
So you can diagnose and prescribe just like a nurse practitioner, being a researcher for

(02:01):
evidence-based practice, being a consultant, being able to consult big hospital systems
on up-to-date practices, being an educator, being able to educate nurses, and also being
a leader.
So right now I'm working as an inpatient case manager for Duke University Hospital.

(02:21):
And I work full-time and I go to school full-time.
And that's my update.
Some people may say, man, you go into school full-time and you're working full-time.
How are you able to manage that?
Well, I'm able to manage because I locked in on a goal.
And I would tell you, if you have a goal, you shouldn't like anything stepping your

(02:46):
way to achieve that.
So with that being said, thank you guys for joining me and happy nursing.
