On the Leech Lake reservation, two troubled teens meet at a roller skating rink and it was all downhill from there. This is not quite a love story - although Darryl and Sierra did love each other, their pasts left them unable to have a healthy relationship. Darryl and his dad loved each other but poverty, mental illness, and years of separation twisted their relationship. Sierra and the Campbells all loved each other but Sierra's unstable life left her vulnerable and willing to do almost anything for Darryl Jr. Almost. So how can love become so brutal and devastating?
