I explore the connection between faith and creativity, sharing my belief that unexpected inspiration comes directly from God. My personal experiences as a comedian have shown me that our greatest creative breakthroughs often arrive when we stop forcing ideas and remain open to divine guidance.

• When good ideas appear unexpectedly, I believe they come from God
• Using your gift brings you spiritually closer to its source
• Working on a God-given talent is a way of honoring and celebrating Him
• Inspiration often arrives when we loosen our grip and stop forcing ideas
• The courage to share your gifts with others is a compliment to their source
• Creative breakthroughs feel different from logical, step-by-step progression
• Recently experienced a major breakthrough after 2.5 weeks of writer's block

Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know, I'm a Christian and I believe that
sometimes whenever you get anidea, okay, and you don't really
know where it comes from, likeyou ever had an idea and someone
was like, hey, where'd you getthat idea from?
It just sort of came at youright out of nowhere.
If it's a good idea, I think itcame from God.
If it's a bad idea, I think itcame from somewhere else.

(00:22):
But that's besides the point,right.
And you know, and a lot oftimes when I'm working on comedy
and stuff, when I feel likethere are certain gifts that you
have in life and again I feellike those gifts were given to
you by God and the more that youwork on them, the more you
really celebrate Him and youreally make Him look better,
right, and I believe thatwhenever, uh, you get these

(00:47):
moments, whenever you dosomething that you feel like as
a gift of God, I feel likeyou're that much closer to him.
It's it's like spiritual youknow what I mean.
Like if you're a talentedpainter and you're painting, if
you were kind of having like awriter's block, maybe not just
for writing but for painting orwhatever it is, I feel like your
connection is a little bitdeeper, because you're doing
something that God has alreadygiven you a gift on.
And that's exactly how I feelwhen I'm writing comedy.

(01:09):
When I'm writing comedy and Ihave an idea about something and
I'm stuck a lot of times, whether I try to force my will
or trying to have a good ideaabout something, or I just I
write it and rewrite it and I'mall over the place.
Okay, a lot of times when Iloosen up my grip, I just feel
like an idea, something willcome to me from somewhere and I

(01:31):
feel like that somewhere is God.
I really really do, andwhenever and again, this is my
opinion, but it's also more thanthat.
It's my belief.
I really like something thatcan physically touch.
I really believe it more thanjust that, it's fact to me.
Um, I believe that wheneveryou're doing something that is a

(01:56):
gift, right, that you're notjust closer to God, but it's
like he can, you can like hearhis voice.
It's more, you're more in tunewith yourself, right, and
anything when you're, whenyou're in that, in that realm,
okay, that is inspiration.
It can only come from one place, right?
Recently I had a joke that I wasworking on.
I thought about this becauserecently, I had a joke that I

(02:18):
was working on and, regardlessof whatever I was doing, I just
I just wasn't getting it, itwasn't making sense and out of
nowhere.
I just felt like I had an ideaand it came from somewhere else,
and I can only give that creditto God, because I don't have
any other explanation.
And I feel like when everybody, whenever somebody comes up with
a cure or they're like apassionate doctor or something

(02:38):
like that I feel like it allcomes from one place and I feel
like there's also something tosay about that.
But we don't really know whatthat is.
But why not put a name behindit and call it what I think it
really is, which is God?
You know, this isn't aspiritual podcast, but sometimes
I really want to share stuff, and this was just on me, so I
wanted to share it.

(03:03):
You know, I'm also a really bigbeliever in the fact that the
more that you do something, thatis a gift, okay.
Okay, you know I touched onthat lightly a second ago, but
whenever you do something, it issomething that is like it
doesn't have to be a Christianthing to do, right, but it could

(03:26):
be hunting or it could bepainting, or it could be
teaching or something like that.
I feel like the better that youdo at that skill set, the more
that you put yourself on theline to be able to explore and
to dive into that, you're onlyreally like complimenting God
even more.
Because I mean, imagine thecourage for lack of better words

(03:46):
that it takes for somebody toget in front of a stage and to
sing.
Maybe they sing great andthat's a great gift that God
gave.
And no one's saying that youhave to be a world-class singer,
right.
But to be able to shine and toshow that gift, it's got to be
the biggest compliment you couldever give.
Give back, you know, it's gotto be one of the most

(04:10):
inspirational thing, and that'salso why I think that God gives
these gifts so that you cantouch other people.
You know, when I make peoplelaugh, it's not, it's, it's not
a bad thing, right, it's alwaysa good thing, anytime that you
ever hear music or that you, yousee a beautiful art, all those

(04:33):
moving things.
Okay, it's got to be one thingand again, this is me I think
it's got to be God.
There can't be any otherexplanation to it.
I mean, how could who elsecould give all the credit to,
for these external ideas thatcome from somewhere else, out of
nowhere, not the things thatare already on the track, like

(04:56):
if you're walking up a staircase.
You keep walking up a staircase, you know.
It's like general progressionthat you're going to hit the
next step, right, but what aboutthe thing where you just go
from walking up to a staircaseto, all of a sudden, it's like
you're on a whole.
It's like you're on a wholeother level, right.
What about those times when youjust get something out of
nowhere?
What is that?

(05:18):
Unfortunately, I also feel likepeople can be inspired in the
wrong way, and that comes fromthe guy downstairs.
But again, I'm not getting intothat.
I'm keeping things positive, keeping it real and honest with
you guys, but whenever I'm inthe place that I need to be to
be working on a comedy, I'm atmy table.
I might not really know what tosay or what to do, but 99.9%

(05:45):
whether I'm walking around or Ihave a notepad on me or I write
something in my phone, wheneverit comes from somewhere else, I
feel like it's got to be him.
So again, this is justsomething that I just wanted to
share and it's kind of leftfield, but I had writer's block
for like two and a half weeksbased off of a joke and I had

(06:06):
like a breakthrough and it wasalmost like the gift was given
to me and I appreciate it andI'm thankful for it and I just
wanted to share it.
So, anyway, that beingmentioned, everybody, have a
beautiful day.
I'm Ben Joel Dunn.
Thank you so much for your time.
I'm out.

(06:30):
Peace.
