What Makes a Song Worth Changing the Set For? | RekHeard Breakerz | Episode 8

What makes a DJ actually make room for a new record in their set?

In Episode 8 of RekHeard Breakerz, DJ Karyen is back in Austin, Texas with Jamie Dred, English Dom and DJ Eye Q to anonymously review ten new independent Soca, Reggae and Dancehall submissions.

The panel gets into what makes a record work from a DJ perspective, including production, vocal clarity, lyrics, hooks, originality, club readiness and whether a song naturally fits into a set.

But what happens when it doesn’t fit?

Sometimes a record has to stand out enough that a DJ feels like they NEED to play it.

Ten submissions. Four DJs. Honest feedback.

No artist names or locations are revealed until after the DJs give their feedback and make their decisions.

If we rate it, we’ll play it!
