The world keeps turning up the volume, but Jesus turns up the standard. We walk through Matthew 5 to uncover how real change starts beneath the surface—where anger, lust, and compromise hide. Instead of feeding the outrage economy, we choose reconciliation over performance, integrity over image, and covenant faithfulness over convenience. That shift, from hands to heart, is how a resilient faith takes root in a chaotic age.

We start by confronting the discipling power of anger and the lure of cultural outrage. James says human anger can’t produce God’s righteousness, and Jesus ties worship to reconciliation, not theatrics. From there, we expose the subtle ways lust colonizes our imagination through screens, habits, and secret scripts—and we get practical about guarding the heart with intentional inputs and radical, life-giving boundaries. Holiness isn’t prudish; it’s protective, forming people who can love well and endure pressure.

Then we restore marriage as a sacred covenant that reflects God’s faithfulness, and we reclaim honesty in a time of loopholes, spin, and AI-polished personas. A simple yes or no becomes a quiet revolution. Finally, we face the command that stretches us most: love your enemies and pray for those who harm you. Not as naïveté, but as spiritual strength that breaks retaliation’s grip and signals a higher allegiance. The aim is maturity—whole, formed lives that mirror the Father’s heart. Hey, welcome to Renewed Mindsets.
I'm Rick, and I'm so gladyou're here.
Listen, all of you that havebeen listening to Renewed
Mindsets for the past threeyears, I apologize that I
haven't been very consistenthere lately.
I've been working on Wisdom forthe Day podcast and a Wisdom
for the Day TikTok video.

(00:27):
Um, yeah.
See, I can't even think rightnow.
We are working on renewedmindsets.
I've got a few things in mind,but I've got one here for you
today.
Um, and it's still we'retalking about the end times
because that's what we're livingin.
We're living in a time wherepeople claim Christianity, but

(00:51):
they resist transformation,right?
They want grace, but they don'twant change.
They want heaven, but theydon't want holiness.
They want forgiveness, but notobedience.
Now, Jesus didn't preachbehavior modification, he
preached heart transformation.

(01:12):
And in Matthew 5, he draws theline, not between believers and
unbelievers, but between surfacereligion and kingdom
righteousness.
So listen carefully.
The end times is not going tojust expose wickedness in the
world, it's going to exposeshallow Christianity in the

(01:37):
church.
Matthew 5, 20 says, But I warnyou, unless your righteousness
is better than the righteousnessof the teachers of religious
law and the Pharisees, you willnever enter the kingdom of
heaven.
That's not casual language,people.
That's a wake-up call.

(01:57):
So Jesus says in Matthew 5, 21and 22, You have heard that our
ancestors were told, you mustnot murder.
But I say, if you are evenangry with someone, you are
subject to judgment.
He moves the commandment fromthe hands to the heart.

(02:19):
And we think we're righteousbecause we haven't committed
violence.
But what about rage?
What about contempt?
What about the internal hatredthat we justify because they
deserve it?
Have you been watching thenews?
Which side are you on?

(02:39):
In these last days, anger iscelebrated.
Political anger, culturalanger, religious anger.
Christians are being discipledby outrage.
But James 120 says human angerdoes not produce the

(02:59):
righteousness that God desires.
Let me say this clearly.
If your Christianity is fueledby constant outrage, you're
being shaped by the world, notby Christ.
Jesus says reconciliationmatters more than religious
performance.
Matthew 5, 23 and 24 says ifyou're presenting a sacrifice at

(03:25):
the altar and you suddenlyremember that someone has
something against you, leaveyour sacrifice there and go and
be reconciled.
God is not impressed withworship songs from a bitter
heart.
Inside out righteousness meanswe deal with anger before it
becomes poison.
Some of this is going to bedeep today.

(03:49):
Y'all need to listen.
Matthew 5, 27 and 28, Jesussays, You have heard the
commandment that says you mustnot commit adultery.
But I say anyone who even looksat a woman with lust has
already committed adultery withher in his heart.
Jesus is not exaggerating.

(04:09):
He's exposing.
And we live in a culturedrowning in sexual compromise.
And much of the church hasnormalized it.
We've got entertainment thatfeeds lust, scrolling that feeds
lust, and private fantasiesthat feed lust.
And we say, Well, I didn'tactually do anything.

(04:32):
But Jesus says, Yes, you did.
Sin begins where you allow itto live.
Proverbs 423 says, Guard yourheart above all else, for it
determines the course of yourlife.
Now notice that word, guard.
Guarding is active.
Guarding is intentional.

(04:55):
Jesus uses graphic languageabout plucking out an eye and
cutting off a hand.
He's not telling you to harmyourself, he's telling you to
take sin seriously.
Radical obedience is betterthan casual compromise.
And in these end times,compromise is going to increase,

(05:16):
but holiness will distinguishthe remnant.
Well, later on in this passagein Matthew 5, Jesus addresses
divorce.
In his day, men were divorcingtheir wives over trivial things.
Culture had lowered thestandard.
Sound familiar?

(05:36):
Sounds just like today.
Matthew 5, 32.
But I say that a man whodivorces his wife, unless she
has been unfaithful, causes herto commit adultery.
Jesus restores the sacrednessof covenant.
Marriage is not sustained bybutterflies, it's sustained by

(06:00):
commitment.
And covenant faithfulnessreflects God's faithfulness.
Malachi 2:1 says, For I hatedivorce, says the Lord, the God
of Israel.
Hear me clearly, people.
This is not about condemningthose who have walked through
brokenness.
This is about confronting aculture that treats covenant

(06:23):
like a contract.
In the kingdom, commitment issacred.
In the end times, covenantloyalty is going to grow rare.
But God is raising people whostand.
So later in Matthew 5 37, justsay a simple yes, I will or no I

(06:47):
won't.
Anything beyond this is fromthe evil one.
People had created elaborateoath systems.
Swear by heaven, swear byearth, swear by Jerusalem.
They're loopholes, baby.
Baby.
Who am I talking to?
Jesus says, Stop playing games.

(07:09):
Just tell the truth.
In an age of manipulation andspin and exaggeration and AI
curated images, integrityshines.
Psalm fifteen, verse one andtwo says, Who may who may
worship in your sanctuary, Lord?

(07:31):
Those who lead blameless livesand do what is right, speaking
the truth from sincere hearts.
Sincere hearts, not strategicwords.
The end times is going to bemarked by deception.
We know that because it's here,and deception is real.

(07:51):
But the children of God must beknown for honesty.
Now we move further intoMatthew 5, and Jesus goes
nuclear on us because he says inverse 44, but I say, love your
enemies, pray for those whopersecute you.

(08:11):
This is where most believerscheck out.
Love enemies, bless people whoattack you, pray for those who
slander you.
Well, that feels impossible.
But verse 45 tells us why.
He says, in that way you willbe acting as true children of

(08:33):
your Father in heaven.
You resemble your father whenyou love the undeserving.
God sends sun and rain on bothgood and evil.
Romans 5.8 says, But God showedus his great love for us by
sending Christ to die for uswhile we were still sinners.
He loved you when you were hisenemy.

(08:56):
Loving enemies is not weakness,it's spiritual maturity.
It breaks the cycle of revenge.
It declares, I belong to ahigher kingdom.
So then Jesus gives us a finalcommand.
Matthew 5, 48, but you are tobe perfect even as your Father

(09:19):
in heaven is perfect.
Perfect here means mature,whole, fully formed.
Jesus is saying, grow upspiritually.
Stop settling for shallowreligion.
Stop comparing yourself toculture.

(09:40):
Compare yourself to Christ.
Renewed mindsets crew.
The world is not waiting forlouder Christians.
It's waiting for transformedChristians.
Inside out righteousness.
Hearts purified from anger,eyes guarded from lust,

(10:03):
covenants honored, wordstrusted, enemies loved.
This is not behaviormanagement.
It's kingdom identity.
In the end times, counterfeitChristianity is going to
increase, but so will clarity.

(10:24):
And clarity separates thecasual from the committed.
It separates the remnant fromeverybody else.
The question isn't, do youattend church?
The question is, is your heartor has your heart been

(10:46):
transformed?
Again, I go back to Romans 12,too.
Don't copy the behavior andcustoms of this world, but let
God transform you into a newperson by changing the way you
think.
We need to have renewedmindsets.
We need to have inside-outholiness.

We need to have kingdommaturity.
It's not optional.
This is the call of Christ inthese end times.
