Dr. Bell continues the discussion concerning taking things personally. Solomon is discussing the uselessness he has done in his life by being overmuch in vain things and wise things. There is nothing wrong in having the finer things of this life, as long as the finer things of this life have us serving the things of the world and not serving God. We are not to live in our might nor our own power but by His spirit.
We should be careful in taking things personally because we need to make sure that which we are taking personally is backed by God. Dr. King took racism personally. Rosa parks took discrimination personally. Both were backed by the will of God to prepare a brighter future for humanity.
Solomon could not find good in all of the women (1000) that he had because he needed to look for joy in the spirit of God. Flesh cannot satisfy the spirit.
