ILOVEMAKONNEN stops by the Rip City Basement to chat with Brenboy and play a few songs from his catalog. We get to hear 3 hand selected songs from MAKONNEN, and a couple more of Brenboy’s favorites off the new ‘Stay Hydrated’ album which dropped at the end of 2022.
The superstar singer/rapper released 10 projects last year including 3 albums and a few collabs with Yellow Trash Can, NBA Youngboy, and Rich Daytona. MAKONNEN talks about his history with music and creative process, explaining that his music is all about “the feel”.
During his performance at the Star Theater, a big crowd of fans gathered front and center of the stage to watch ILOVEMAKONNEN rock the mic and recite the lyrics with him. The energy that night was so pure, as you can tell his fans truly adore him and his music.
Not only is he a Grammy nominated artist, with his song “Tuesday” charting at #72 on the Billboard charts, but MAKONNEN takes the time to get to know his fans and fellow artists in the town on a personal level. He’s a genuine guy with a big heart for helping others, and it shows during this interview, as he expresses gratitude for Oregon and being accepted into the Portland music community.

Are You A Charlotte?
In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
