The tone flips fast when you live with dogs: one minute you’re laughing about pop culture, dumb polls, and a joke so bad it’s good, and the next you’re dealing with the kind of responsibility that keeps you up at night. We laugh, we vent, and we land on the same point: caring for animals means showing up even when it is messy and heartbreaking.

In this episode:

• Seattle trip recap and helping wrench on a Chevy C10 build

• Nemo project updates and a Too Wong Foo side quest

• Dirty Dancing poll results and “pole master” logic

• Spanish words, misheard phrases, and cartoon nostalgia

• A clean-joke run that gets progressively sharper

• Fireflies on the ranch and failed attempts to film them

• Timid puppy struggles, feeding issues, and parasite risk to the pack

• Standard new-puppy rescue protocol for fleas, worms, and prevention

• Maggie’s rapid decline, quality-of-life worries, and planning with a vet

Uh so that's a good good way to start.
We uh I'm glad you mentionedthat because we missed another
release.

SPEAKER_01 (00:28):
Yeah, I know.
It's it's always my fault.
I malfunctions on my end everytime.

SPEAKER_04 (00:37):
Well, I mean the last half an hour has been
malfunctions trying to get thisgoing, but the release was
missed before that.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (00:51):
Yeah, it's always been a malfunction.
I just hope this one doesn'tdrop off like the last one did.

SPEAKER_04 (00:57):
Well, well we'll see how it goes.
Um I guess I'm gonna start withthe pop culture update.

SPEAKER_01 (01:06):
Oh, pop culture, okay.

SPEAKER_04 (01:08):
Yeah, Enrique Iglesias.

SPEAKER_01 (01:12):
Okay.

SPEAKER_04 (01:13):
Still hot.

Well, yes.
Even for even for a straightman, Todd.

SPEAKER_04 (01:22):
Yeah.
Wow.
He sounded way gayer than I didjust now.
Good lord.

SPEAKER_01 (01:30):
Oh my god, leave it alone.
Ugh.
Yeah, I just happened to see uhyou forget six years in the
navy.
I I can sound gay as hell.

SPEAKER_04 (01:38):
Yeah, I know.
I got the soundbite on theboard.
We're like in the navy.
Actually, I don't, but I have anote to put it in the board so I
could play it.
Yeah.
Um, yeah, that's that's what Igot, and Ricky Glace is still
hot.
What do you got?

SPEAKER_01 (01:56):
Yeah.
Um Shakira is still hot.

SPEAKER_04 (02:03):
Well, I'll tell you I I didn't mean pop culture.
I meant what do you have for theshow?
But since you brought it up,I'll tell you what I like about
Shakira.

SPEAKER_01 (02:15):
Okay.

SPEAKER_04 (02:16):
Her hips do not lie.

SPEAKER_01 (02:19):
No, they don't.

SPEAKER_04 (02:20):
And they never have.

unknown (02:23):
No.

SPEAKER_04 (02:24):
Okay, what do you have for the show?

SPEAKER_01 (02:28):
Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_04 (02:29):
What's going on?

SPEAKER_01 (02:31):
Uh not much.
We got back from Seattle uhyesterday.
I guess uh day before yesterday,we got back from Seattle.
Spending some time up there withDino and Cindy.
Can you take the had a greattime?

SPEAKER_04 (02:43):
Can you take the gain up on your mic a little bit
on your side?

SPEAKER_01 (02:46):
Just see, how's that one?
Is that better?

SPEAKER_04 (02:50):
Yes, it is.
Thank you.

SPEAKER_01 (02:52):
Yep, not a problem.
Yeah, so we were up in Seattle, well, north of Seattle, uh, with
Dino and Cindy, and Cindy andChristina had a great time.
And you and Dino did chops andoh my god, we had such a great
time.
He's working on a 66 Chevy C10that he's putting a small block

(03:14):
motor in.
And I got to help him with a lotof stuff on that.
I mean, there's no box on it,there's no grill or front end on
it, there's no fenders on it.
It's just he's working its wayup.
And the goal for that one is himand his buddy.
He's actually doing it for abuddy of his.
And they're gonna they want totake it down to Hot August

(03:35):
nights in Reno, Nevada.
So we got to do a whole bunch ofstuff with him on that.
It's it's really cool just tosit out there with him in his
shop and help him out.
Yeah, I was like, listen to somecool stories from an old boy.

SPEAKER_04 (03:50):
It's yeah, I know he sounds like a really solid dude,
but you said um helped him.
And I I assume you kind of gotaround to it.
He meant sitting there, likewatching him do stuff.

SPEAKER_01 (04:05):
No, I actually uh actually uh ran the fuel lines
uh from the fuel injection backto the fuel tank for the return
and then ran it from the fueltank up through the fuel filter
and then up into the engine, didthat.
Um had to put on the bracketthat holds the AC power steering
and the alternator, got that allput on and everything, and then

(04:29):
had to build a little excuse me,stainless steel uh tube to uh
put on the the shifter so theshifter would work right and all
that.
So I wasn't sitting on my ass.

SPEAKER_04 (04:42):
Oh good, great.
That was me.
That that noise was me.
Um well no, that sounds like areally cool project.
Did Cindy uh was she pleased ordisappointed or other um with my

(05:04):
progress so far on the Nemoproject?

SPEAKER_01 (05:07):
Oh she is so pleased with you and your Nemo project.
In fact, she said she made acomment, but she didn't tell me
on what which one of our socialmedias that she made a comment
on you could do something elsebesides the finding Nemo and
stuff.

SPEAKER_04 (05:23):
Uh but yeah, she is.
Yeah, you know what?
That's right, she did saysomething.
Um which I didn't see it till Iwas, you know, dick deep in
Nemo.
So it's kind of like that shiphad sailed a little bit, but
yeah, where did she here we go?
I want to see what she saidbecause I kind of forgot.

(05:48):
Nemo, oh she said, so if findingNemo is not your thing, then how
about to Wong Fu from JulieNuma?
She said from Julie Newman.
I don't think it's Julie Newman.
I think it's Julie, no.
Is it even Julie?
It's too wong fuck from July.
No, hold on, I gotta look thatup.

SPEAKER_01 (06:09):
Julie Newmar or something like that.

SPEAKER_04 (06:11):
Well, she said Julie Newman.
I don't think that's right.
Oh yeah, Julie Newmar.
Okay.
Anyhow, um, said if finding anew mo is not your thing, then
how about two wongfu?
Uh from Julie Newman.
This she said this is anotherSwayze movie.

SPEAKER_02 (06:30):
Is that true?

unknown (06:32):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (06:34):
Yep.

SPEAKER_04 (06:35):
Okay, it is.

SPEAKER_01 (06:36):
Um she uh she listens every time a new episode
comes out.
In fact, kind of got my asschewed a little bit.
No, that's a lie.
I didn't.
She's like, um, did we miss acouple?
I'm like, technicaldifficulties, technical
difficulties.
And as usual, she blamed it allon me, which is fine, it's
usually me.

SPEAKER_04 (06:54):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know what you're talking about.
Like, I know what you're saying,but my I was I was reading
reading your comment, and shesaid Patrick Swayze's in this
Too Long Food movie, and myquestion was, is that true?

SPEAKER_01 (07:07):
Yes, he is.

SPEAKER_04 (07:08):
Okay, great.

SPEAKER_01 (07:09):
And then she says they're drag queens.

SPEAKER_04 (07:11):
I under I know, I know that.
I haven't seen it, but I Ithought it was Woody Harrelson,
but I guess it's Patrick Swayze.
So I've yeah, I've not seen it,but I thought it was uh what's
this Woody Harrelson, yeah.
So um I don't oh, you know what?
I mean I'm not doing the math onthis, and uh wait a second.

(07:37):
Woody Harrelson's not it at all.

SPEAKER_01 (07:42):
I don't think so.
Oh my god.

SPEAKER_04 (07:45):
This is one of those uh what's the thing?
Uh it'll come to me.
South Africa President of orsomebody South Africa.
Who's that South Africa guy?
Um Mandela.

(08:07):
This is one of those Mandelaeffect things.
I swear he Woody Harrelson wasin it.
No, it's Patrick Swayze.

SPEAKER_01 (08:13):
Oh man, I'm not Nelson Mandela.

SPEAKER_04 (08:15):
Oh my god.
Yeah.
That's what I said.
The Mandela effect.
Um Okay.
So I thought whatever.
So it's Patrick Swayze, that'scool.
Drag queens, that's fine.
Um, I kind of take exception toher suggestion here though.
I appreciate the sentiment oftrying to get me out of the Nemo

(08:37):
situation, but she'srecommending to Wong Fu because
it's a Swayze movie, but Nemo'snot a Swayze movie.

SPEAKER_01 (08:49):
No, uh I don't I don't know what the the
connection there is.
I guess she was just trying toget you out of Nemo.

SPEAKER_04 (08:58):
Well, I mean I understand that it's like a
package deal that I have to dodirty dancing and Nemo.
Um it just feel it kind of feelslike if I'm gonna do another
Swayze movie in place of Nemo, then that's not it's not really
holding true to the assignment.
Now, if she wanted to swap DirtyDancing out for another Patrick

(09:20):
Swayze movie, then that wouldthat make sense.

SPEAKER_01 (09:25):
Well you could do that, I don't see any reason why
you couldn't do that.

SPEAKER_04 (09:29):
Uh except that apart from uh the supposed dog rescue
and podcasts and whatever thatwe had about dogs, this podcast
is really pretty muchunderpinned by Patrick Swayze
and Dirty Dancing.
So I think I kind of do have towatch it.

SPEAKER_01 (09:51):
Okay.
Hey, how's the how's the pollgoing on uh the dirty dancing
thing?

SPEAKER_04 (09:57):
The pole.
The dirty dance poll?

SPEAKER_01 (10:00):
Oh, what the one about putting baby in a corner
and you put out that poll.
Yes.
You cheated on?

SPEAKER_04 (10:08):
Uh I didn't well, okay.
I actually haven't looked at it,so I guess we're gonna do the
reveal.
We'll look at it.
Let me pull it up.
We'll do the reveal of theresults in real time.
Uh and drum roll.
It's a tie.
So in the event of a tie, Ibelieve the person who posted

(10:32):
the poll.
I think we defer to that, so Iguess I won.

SPEAKER_01 (10:39):
Okay, we'll let you in.
We'll quit talking about that.
We'll quit talking about that.

SPEAKER_04 (10:46):
Gonna give up.
Nothing to say because what?

SPEAKER_01 (10:51):
Gonna give up.
What that I I gave up?
I mean, there's there's nothingI mean shit, I'm good with that,
and find something else to ragabout.

SPEAKER_04 (11:05):
Oh, okay.
So you're accepting that thepole ended up being a tie.
And that as the pole stir or thepole master, if you will.
We'll call me we'll call me thepole master.
Uh that I get to determine thebreaking of the tie.

SPEAKER_01 (11:24):
Yes, you do.

SPEAKER_04 (11:25):
Okay.
Uh and there's some this is someserious engagement shit right
here because um, and again, itwas a tie, but if we add up all
the total votes, it was two.
So one for yes and one for no.
Really got a highly engagedaudience out there, don't we?

SPEAKER_01 (11:47):
Yeah, we do.
That's okay.

SPEAKER_04 (11:48):
Mm-hmm.
Alright.

SPEAKER_01 (11:51):
Yep.

SPEAKER_04 (11:52):
God, you're a little pissed that you didn't win,
aren't you?
I can tell.

SPEAKER_01 (11:56):
No, I'm not pissed at all.
I got other things on my world.
In my world.
I mean, believe me, you know Iwill come up with something else
to talk about.

SPEAKER_04 (12:06):
Yeah.
Well, you know, I I I'm gonnaI'm just gonna re- I'm gonna say
what I said before, which islike I I think I didn't really
have a problem with you sayingit too that much.
I think it was more a disserviceto yourself.
Because it was funny there for abit, and you just like beat the

(12:28):
funny out of it.

SPEAKER_01 (12:30):
I do that a lot, and you know that.

SPEAKER_04 (12:32):
Yeah.
Oh, poprosito.

unknown (12:38):
What?

SPEAKER_04 (12:40):
Pobrecito means poor little guy in Spanish.

SPEAKER_01 (12:43):
Oh.
I don't speak very much Spanish.

SPEAKER_04 (12:47):
I speak just enough.

SPEAKER_01 (12:48):
Uno más devices portavor.

SPEAKER_04 (12:50):
Uno, yeah, that's right.
Uh so speaking of Spanish, Mike,he uh so do you know what uh un
poquito means?

SPEAKER_01 (13:04):
Isn't that the one you just said?

SPEAKER_04 (13:07):
No, no, I don't said poprcito.
Oh no, un poquito.
You never heard that?
No, I haven't.
It means a little or a littlebit.
So like if somebody, you know, asks you, do you speak Spanish?
You say un poquito.
It means I speak a little bit,right?
Okay.
Okay.
So funny thing about Mike, because he's kind of a goober

(13:28):
sometimes, um, he thought unpoquito meant in my pocket.
Which is funny by itself, butthen you know, he was a uh he
was in commercial construction, you know, till he retired.
And so he was always aroundHispanic crews.
And so you can you just imaginehow many times you busted that

(13:50):
out?

SPEAKER_02 (13:51):
It's like, oh I got a little dinero in un poquito
here for you, senori.
God, Mike, I can just pictureit.

SPEAKER_01 (14:02):
I can I can picture it with Mike also.
You know, the only thing Ilearned in Spanish, uh grade
school, learned the Pledge ofAllegiance in Spanish.
Why?
And then um we had a well ingrade school, I was uh there was
12 kids in fourth, fifth, andsixth grade.

(14:24):
There was 12 of us in all threegrades in in one classroom in
Mount Pleasant here up inWashington.
And the teachers thought that weshould learn Spanish, so that's
we'd do Spanish, and then shetaught us the Pledge of
Allegiance in Spanish.

SPEAKER_04 (14:39):
So you learned it as part of learning Spanish.

SPEAKER_01 (14:44):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_04 (14:45):
Oh, okay.
That's cool.
Um yeah, I took Spanish.
Um took Spanish two or threeyears in high school.
And uh turned out it didn'tteach me any of the things I
actually needed to know inSpanish.
Uh because once once I went tocollege and uh then I learned

(15:05):
some Spanish, if you know whatI'm saying.

SPEAKER_01 (15:08):
Oh, I bet you did.

SPEAKER_04 (15:09):
Push un poquito face into that pilito.

SPEAKER_01 (15:16):
Oh boy.
Yeah, I I learned more from myuncle Luciano, Luciano Rivera.
I learned uh tia, tio, miho, miha.

SPEAKER_04 (15:27):
So what does tia and teo mean?

SPEAKER_01 (15:29):
Aunt and uncle.
Good job.

SPEAKER_04 (15:31):
What else did you learn?

SPEAKER_01 (15:32):
And then Miho and Mija, which is my son, and I
guess I think the other one's mydaughter or whatever.

SPEAKER_04 (15:39):
Well, yeah, I mean they're the same word, just with
um genders.
So miha is feminine, miho is uhmasculine.
So yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know if it means my sonor daughter.
I think it means like son.
Well, it's probably like inbetween.
I think it's like son, but likea you know, an affectionate way
of saying it, Mio.

(16:00):
Um yes.
Oh god, oh, it made me think ofsomething.
My cousin, technically my mom'scousin, but I don't know how
that works.
If it's like a second cousincousin 25 times removed, I don't
fucking know.
So I just call her my cousin,Laurie.
She had or has a dog I hadchecked on that.

(16:23):
Um dog named Eska, big dog namedEska.
Now just hearing the name, whatwhat gender would you think that
dog was?

SPEAKER_01 (16:32):
Eska?
You would think it would be afemale.

SPEAKER_04 (16:34):
Yeah, I know, right?
Uh it's not, it was a dude.
Um, and it's a really cool name.
I really like the name Eska.
It's just every time she saidit, or I would hear it.
Um it would take my brain astep.
Because like to me, and it andit I think it was Nordic, the
origin or something.
I'm not sure exactly, but to me,like uh being as deep into

(17:00):
Latino culture uh as I havebeen.
Literally.
Uh-huh.
Uh the ah and the o, you know,it's like like you said, or like
I said, feminine, masculine,mihomija.
What other Spanish do you know?
This is interesting.

SPEAKER_01 (17:19):
Uh C and I think that's about it.
I don't know much.

SPEAKER_04 (17:29):
Donde está la biblioteca.

SPEAKER_01 (17:34):
Yeah, I don't know that one.

SPEAKER_04 (17:35):
That means where's the library?
It's a good thing to know.
Because I mean, think about it.
If you're ever in aSpanish-speaking country and
you're just like lost orwhatever, and you gotta find
your way somewhere, library'snot a bad place to start.
This is true.
This is true.

(17:55):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (17:56):
But now they have those uh apps on your phone
that'll interpret this stuff foryou.

SPEAKER_04 (18:01):
Yeah.
But yeah.
That takes the fun out of it,though.
Oh man.
That's true.
I hate to do this.
I have to tinkle again.
I'll be right back.

SPEAKER_01 (18:15):
Okay, I'll be here.
You want me to keep on talkingabout life?
He's already gone.
He had to tinkle so bad.
As we know, Ryan has a smallbladder.
It's after 10 o'clock.
Couple medellos in him.
And he's gotta go every fiveminutes.
I don't know how the hell weeven do this podcast with him

(18:35):
having to tinkle so much.
Well, I don't hear any animalsin the studio today.
No Finley, no Oakley, none ofthe cats.
So yeah, now we're just sittinghere.
Hi, Cindy.
How you doing?
Hopefully, you're sitting outthere enjoying yourself in your

(18:57):
nice warm sweatshirt.
Glad you like that.
I enjoyed that.
That was fun.
Let's see now what else we got.
I got shit, man.
I'm sitting here all by myself.
Oh, I think you're already gonnacome back.
Shh, be very, very quiet.
We're hunting Rions.

(19:21):
Yep, still nothing.
We're on our own.
This is the one man podcast.
Mark and the Tinkler.
He probably put his bottoms onthe board.
Sitting here talking to myselfas usual.
Where the hell did he go?

(19:42):
I'm gonna be going out to smoke, also.
Oh shit, here he comes.

SPEAKER_04 (19:52):
Alright, I'm back.
I apologize for that.
That one really snuck up on me.

SPEAKER_01 (19:57):
Nope, you're fine.
That's all good.

SPEAKER_04 (19:59):
Yeah.
Or is it uh bueno?
Is it all bueno?

SPEAKER_01 (20:04):
Oh bueno.
Or not going to cabeza.
I know that one.

SPEAKER_04 (20:08):
Oh yeah, I would think so.
Um since we're multicultural,um, do you know any French?

SPEAKER_01 (20:19):
Just what I learned from Papua Pew on uh Looney
Tunes.

SPEAKER_04 (20:25):
Yeah, I know I actually know what you're
talking about.
I mean, I know the character.
I don't uh did he say stuff?
I just like I think it wasMademoiselle and Mother But oh
yeah, he was a total fuckingplayer, wasn't he?

SPEAKER_01 (20:43):
Yeah, he was.
Yes, he was.
Always chasing the pussy becausehe was always chasing cats.

SPEAKER_04 (20:49):
Was he chasing cats?
He wasn't chasing another skunk.

SPEAKER_01 (20:51):
It was cats because they would always it'd be a
black cat that would gounderneath the gate or something
and they end up with a whitestripe, and then he'd think they
were a female skunk.

SPEAKER_04 (20:59):
Oh yeah.
Okay, cool.

SPEAKER_01 (21:03):
Um Yeah, I've I've put on Looney Tunes a couple
times for the grandkids, andthey I get the evilest looks
from them.

SPEAKER_04 (21:10):
Why?
They don't like it?

SPEAKER_01 (21:12):
Because they don't like my style of cartoons.
They get these weird shit andthings that they watch nowadays.

SPEAKER_04 (21:17):
Oh, well, yeah.
The stuff with like a millioncuts and like it's just it's
like basically priming them tobe ADD.
Yes.
Yeah, which is bullshit.
Back in my day, we came by ourADD, honestly, you know?
Just genetics and bad habits.

SPEAKER_01 (21:36):
Not yeah, they just called us uh said that we needed
some help and uh beat our ass inmy day.

SPEAKER_04 (21:42):
Yeah.
Um I didn't know what ADD was.
It's much of the ass beaten inmy day, but you know, to quote a
rapper from circa 2002, I can'tremember the name of.
We were just misunderstood, andI just thought my chest.
Do you want to hear a joke?

SPEAKER_01 (22:03):
Yeah, let's hear a joke.
Okay.

SPEAKER_04 (22:05):
Since we're talking about French.
Um do you know what the word theFrench word for egg is?

SPEAKER_01 (22:12):
No.

SPEAKER_04 (22:13):
It's oof.
Oof.
Yeah, it's pronounced or isspelled like O E, one of those
combo letters.
UF, but it's pronounced oof.
Okay.
So in France, how come theydon't like omelets for
breakfast?

SPEAKER_01 (22:32):
I don't know.

SPEAKER_04 (22:34):
Because one egg is an oof.

unknown (22:37):
Oh Jesus.

SPEAKER_04 (22:41):
I know.
It's so good.
It is.
I'll take my Oscar now.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (22:49):
We don't have any animals named Oscar.

SPEAKER_04 (22:51):
That's a good joke.
You guys, I mean, you gottaadmit.

SPEAKER_01 (22:54):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_04 (22:55):
It's not bad.

SPEAKER_01 (22:56):
Well, I I I heard one.
Uh okay.
It's why do cows cows wearbells?

SPEAKER_04 (23:03):
Why do cows wear bells?
I don't know.

SPEAKER_01 (23:06):
Because their horns don't work.

SPEAKER_04 (23:11):
Oh, that's both funny and also like I can't
believe that took me as long asit took me, which was a few
seconds.
I'm like that's good.
That's good.
I like that.
It is.
I like that.
I like that.
Oh, we're doing clean jokes.
This is fun.
This is an change.
What do you call uh that's not ajoke, actually?

(23:32):
No, that's not a joke.
Oh, uh, whatever.
You got any more jokes likethat?
Like clean jokes?
Maybe we'll do clean jokes now.
I'll change the whole podcast toclean jokes.

SPEAKER_01 (23:44):
Holy shit, they're so few and far between for me.

SPEAKER_03 (23:46):
Yeah, I know.

SPEAKER_01 (23:48):
Yeah.
Oh, okay.
If you're if you're Americanwhen you go in the bathroom, and
you're American when you comeout of the bathroom, what are
you while you're in thebathroom?

SPEAKER_03 (24:02):
I don't know.

SPEAKER_01 (24:04):
European.

SPEAKER_03 (24:05):
Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_04 (24:10):
Uh oh, I got one.
Uh what do you what has what hasuh fifty legs and uh three
teeth?

SPEAKER_01 (24:22):
I don't know.

SPEAKER_04 (24:23):
The front row at a Willie Nelson concert.

SPEAKER_01 (24:27):
Oh no shit.

SPEAKER_04 (24:32):
Yep.
That's yep.
That's so clean.
That's a little it's a littlemean, but it's clean.

SPEAKER_01 (24:39):
I told uh many years ago we had all three grandkids,
uh, the older ones.
Uh shit, they were probably 12,12, and 10 or 11.
And so they wanted me to telljokes.
Granddaughter always wantsjokes.
Papa, give me a joke.
Papa, tell me a joke.
And so I told them, excuse me,what's uh red and green and goes

(25:03):
a thousand miles an hour.

unknown (25:05):
Red and green.

SPEAKER_01 (25:06):
Of course, it's a frog and a blender.
Oh, Jesus.
And my one grandson, he's stillto this day, and he's almost 15.
Papa, that was the worst jokeever.
It's bad.
It is.
Yeah.
That's like but now Rosie, she'sshe's 13, almost 14, and she

(25:26):
don't want clean jokes anymore.
She wants the Papa style joke.
She is definitely mygranddaughter.
We caught her one time that wewere sitting around campfire and
telling stupid jokes and shit.
Looked over.
I'm like, Rosalie, what are youdoing?
She says, writing it down on myphone, Papa.
I'm like, oh shit, we can't dothat anymore.

SPEAKER_04 (25:49):
Yeah, I know.
Uh it's like you're not allowedto have a pen or a phone or any
way to record this stuff ifwe're talking about it.
Come on, man.

SPEAKER_01 (26:00):
Yep.
Yep.
Shit.
So what's going on at the ranch?
Anything exciting?

SPEAKER_04 (26:07):
Uh, I actually have one more joke that I just
thought of that actually Robbiebecause you mentioned
13-year-olds and Robbie told me.
And I'm like, it's not a it'snot a dirty joke, it's not a bad
joke.
But it's a little, I think, youknow, kind of like what you're
saying.
It's maybe a little more in thecategory of maybe wait till
you're older to tell this.

(26:28):
But anyway, here's the joke.
Um, what do you call a blackman?

SPEAKER_01 (26:36):
A man?

SPEAKER_04 (26:38):
By his name, you racist.

unknown (26:40):
Oh shit.

SPEAKER_01 (26:47):
Okay, that gives me one more friend of ours'
daughters, uh, what's worse thanants in your pants?

SPEAKER_03 (26:54):
Oh, yeah, I know this one.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah, I know.

SPEAKER_04 (26:58):
That's awful.
Uh see, I think you went, see, Ithink your joke is is bad
though, like a little dirty.

SPEAKER_01 (27:07):
It is, it's a little bit dirty, but oh well, we had
to end on a bad one, not a goodone.

SPEAKER_04 (27:12):
Well, yeah.
I mean, I guess.
Uh there's that one joke.
Uh what is sorority girls uhtheir favorite numbers always
five or seven.
I don't know, because they justcan't even.

SPEAKER_01 (27:31):
Oh Jesus Christ.
Oh my gosh.
Yeah, I know.
I'll have to remember that onefor Rosie.

SPEAKER_04 (27:47):
Yeah, and I I just think we should be clear here
that you understand this becausethe number six is an even
number, right?

SPEAKER_01 (27:54):
Yes, I call it an even numbers.

SPEAKER_04 (27:56):
All right.
Hey man, I've learned not totake anything for granted on
this fucking show.

SPEAKER_01 (28:01):
Especially with me.

SPEAKER_04 (28:03):
Yeah, exactly.
That's what I'm talking about.
So, yes, what's going on theranch?
Um, it's well, I'll tell you onefun thing.
Um, as of yesterday.
I think they probably startedbefore that, but yesterday
evening in earnest, thefireflies really exploded.

SPEAKER_01 (28:23):
Oh, really?

SPEAKER_04 (28:24):
Mm-hmm.
Shit.
Missing that.
Oh, they're just fucking.
I mean, this is the most I'veever seen at one time, actually.
It's insane.

SPEAKER_01 (28:33):
That's cool.

SPEAKER_04 (28:37):
Yeah, it is.

SPEAKER_01 (28:38):
How's uh how's the new puppy?

SPEAKER_04 (28:40):
Good lord.
Already just move them past thefireflies.
Um, okay.

SPEAKER_01 (28:45):
Um yeah, because I'm not there to enjoy them, and
Christina's gonna get mad thatshe's not there to see them.

SPEAKER_04 (28:51):
Well, okay.
Uh you know, I think sort of oneof the premises, if you will, of
uh two-person podcast is like alittle sort of conversation.
So uh when I say stuff aboutfireflies, and you're like,
that's cool, how's a puppy?
Uh okay.

(29:11):
All right, since you didn't askany follow-up questions, I'll
just follow up on my own here.
Um, so I've been trying to getpictures or video of the
fireflies, which is verydifficult.
They're real sons of bitches inthat way.
Um, so I tried last night, uh,just on my phone, doesn't work.
And then today I had a fuckingbrainwave.

(29:31):
I'm like, wait a minute.
I should use theastrophotography setting on my
phone, right?

SPEAKER_01 (29:37):
Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_04 (29:38):
Because it does those like it runs for four
minutes and does whatever.
Um it captured them, but it'ssome creepy fucking shit, so not
what I was looking for.
And so then I actually, so theroad, the dirt road coming in,
you go past my place um beforeyou hook the corner with that

(29:58):
straight line from basically mydriveway to the corner, just
fucking for whatever reason inand around that road, excuse me,
just blown up with fireflies.
And so I thought I should fly.
What if I flew the drone likelow altitude along the road?
You can see all the fireflies.

SPEAKER_01 (30:19):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_04 (30:20):
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
I mean, I thought that was apretty good idea.

SPEAKER_01 (30:24):
It it makes total sense to me.

SPEAKER_04 (30:25):
Yeah.
Uh it actually for the first of20 seconds or so, it it looked
like it was gonna work.
Then I flew it into a tree.
So uh it's really dark.
Um so that was harder.

SPEAKER_01 (30:38):
I thought this one was it the drone that avoids
trees, or this is thenon-avoidance drone.

SPEAKER_04 (30:43):
It's the avoidance drone, but I had inadvertently
turned off the avoidance stuff.
Oh shit.
Mm-hmm.
Um, and then I got my my GoPronot GoPro.
And I'm like, oh, maybe I canjust set it on a tripod.
Well, the tripod.
I have a tripod because you gotme one.
Um and do like a long exposureshot.

(31:05):
And uh that didn't fucking workeither.

SPEAKER_01 (31:08):
So now what about your smart telescope?
Because you're supposed to beable to do landscapes and stuff
with it.
Couldn't you just set it up foruh a long exposure on that?
Have it stack the photos?

SPEAKER_04 (31:22):
Um no.
I well the telescope is for liketelescoping in on things, you
know what I mean?
Like it's got a really highmagnification on it.
And so it wouldn't work forthat.
At least mine, your yours mightuh yours has a wide angle.

SPEAKER_01 (31:38):
Yeah, because mine's a yeah, mine has a wide angle.
That's right.

SPEAKER_04 (31:41):
Yeah, mine doesn't have that.
Okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (31:44):
I didn't have that.

SPEAKER_04 (31:46):
Um here a joke about fireflies.

SPEAKER_01 (31:50):
Let's hear a joke about fireflies.

SPEAKER_04 (31:53):
All right.
What do you call a firefly thattells jokes?

SPEAKER_01 (31:57):
I have no idea.

SPEAKER_04 (31:58):
A real glow getter.

SPEAKER_01 (32:07):
Uh makes sense.

SPEAKER_04 (32:09):
Yeah.
Uh so the new puppy, asked aboutthe new puppy.
Uh, he's fine.

SPEAKER_01 (32:14):
Yes.
So he's driving you nuts.

SPEAKER_04 (32:18):
Uh yes, but in a completely different way than
like Harley did.
Um because we didn't have timeto get into it last time,
really, about him at all.
Because we kind of gotsidetracked with the fact that
you hated his name.
Um, and then other things cameup, I guess.
And so we didn't want to talkabout him, but he here's the

(32:40):
thing about him.
He's timid.
Scared.
He's scared of people Oh wow.
Yeah.
So he's been great with theother dogs.
It just sucks.
Well, you don't even really knowhow much it sucks.
He's been great with the otherdogs.
Um, they're like his buddies andblah blah blah.
But he scared of me, liketerrified of me.

(33:00):
Um, and so it's uh it's beenreally fucking trying.
Um like to be honest with you, that's r really stressed me out,
put me in a bad state of mindbecause uh well I mean he's it's
it's getting better, but how ithas been is like half the time,

(33:23):
half the days he can even eat.
Even though he's a tiny puppy, like eight weeks old and he's
starving to death, but he won'teat or he doesn't eat because
you know he's scared of mebringing him food in the food
bowl.
And of course, you know, I can'tjust set food down and leave it
because the other dogs will eatit.
Um and he's a puppy, he's a weetiny little young puppy, so he

(33:47):
has worms, of course.
Right, haven't been able tocatch him to deworm him, and
he's you know he's got fuckingfleas, because I always have
fucking fleas when they firstget here, haven't been able to
catch him to de-flee him.
And it's like, you know, on theone hand, some people are like,
well, you know, you'll get to itwhen you get to it.
Uh no, that's not the fuckingthing.

(34:07):
The fucking thing is that, yeah, but in the meantime, my whole
fucking pack is at risk.
Well, beyond at risk at thispoint.
I mean, it's inevitable thatthere's worms, uh, whatever.
And so honestly, it's beenreally fucking stressing me out.

(34:28):
Um, and we're getting there,we're getting a little better
with it.
Um I've been able to feed himconsistently for the last day
and a half.
I got some what did I give himso far?
I got a heart a heart guard.
Managed to get him to eat aheart guard and uh some first

(34:52):
dose of a dewarmer.
Um, but he still needs flea, flea and tick.
And that kind of well, so my momwas asking me the other day,
like what's like what do you do?
Not what do you do, but like, you know, what's standard
operating when you take in a newpuppy?
Um it depends a lot on thesituation, but basically, assume

(35:13):
they're all infested witheverything.
That's what I do.
Uh start with them.
And that's from experience.

SPEAKER_02 (35:20):
Because usually they are.

SPEAKER_04 (35:21):
Yeah.
Uh so the first thing is uh abig ol' flea bath.
Um I say flea bath, I mean Ilike cover everything.
Like basically get some fuckingsupercharged motherfucking flea
tick, you know, whatevershampoo.
Right.
And they get they get a bath.

(35:44):
Uh like, you know, four roundsof scrub, rinse, repeat,
whatever.
And then so that's the firstthing, basically.
And then they go, they go onflea and tick, and they go on
the hardware, and whatever.
And so from there it's beenfine.
But with this little fuckstick,oh god, running a dog rescue.
With this, with this wee littlepuppy, um, yeah, I've been able

(36:07):
to catch him to do those things.
Uh, so like I said, it's gottena lot, it's gotten a lot better.
Very slowly.
I would say probably based onhow things are progressing.
Uh been about two or three daysfrom now, I might be able to
catch him to give him a bath.

(36:28):
Okay.
But at least I've been able tostart him on meds, been able to
feed him consistently.
But it's fucking annoyingbecause I'm like, you know, your
little fucking puppy ass showsup here, and then you won't
leave.
And it's like, now I have to bestressed out.
Now I'm fucking stressed out.

(36:48):
Like, oh god, is he did he eatenough?
He's not eating enough.
And then the other thing too, Ithink I told you that one day,
well, I told you it's gonnafreeze that one night, right?

SPEAKER_01 (36:58):
Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04 (36:59):
Yeah, I think that's been since the last time we did
a show.
Um, yep.
And yeah, it was like fuckinglow 20s, dude.
That night.
Wow.
And then the next night, hightwenties, still free.
And I'm like, this littlefucking puppy, a little teeny
tiny puppies out there likeshivering.
And I'm like, I'm sure you'remiserable, but you won't you

(37:20):
know, like I have a warm fuckingcrate and a blanket inside, but
you won't let me get you andtake you in there.
So that's how that's going.

SPEAKER_01 (37:30):
So you think um it sounds like he may have had a
lot of abuse before he came tohis new home.

SPEAKER_04 (37:36):
No, I don't think he's old enough to have had any
abuse, dude.
Like he's uh like he just I Ijust think he didn't have any
socialization.
Oh, it's not like he's scared ofme, scared of me, like, oh
you're gonna do something.
He scared of me like you're nota dog.
What's happening?

SPEAKER_01 (37:57):
Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04 (37:59):
I think and you may be right.
You you may be right.
I'm not sure.
Um because uh I I think he'sjust too young to have had much
of a history with anything.
And I gotta tell you, because Ithink in that video you said he
looked like he was about eightweeks old.
And I was saying probably eightto ten was my thought.

(38:23):
But Jesus Christ, I was watchinghim today, like he was playing
with a toy or something rollingon his back.
When he opened his mouth, I waslike, holy crap, he doesn't even
have like a full front row ofbaby teeth yet.
Oh I know.
Which, you know, people arelike, Well, how fucking
negligent are you?

(38:43):
This dog's been here for weekand a half, two weeks, you don't
even know that.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
That's part of that's part ofwhat fucking happens, you know,
when I bring a dog in, is I do awhole fucking thing in the bath
and I know all this stuff.
But yeah, dude, I think he'sreally young.

unknown (39:03):
Oh shit.

SPEAKER_04 (39:04):
Yeah, well Hartley was Hartley was 10 to 12 weeks
when I f when he showed up,which is really young.
Yeah.
But he had a full he had a fullass mouth of baby.
Well, you know.
I mean, you know how young a doghas to be to not even have a
full mouth of baby teeth.
Jesus Christ.

SPEAKER_01 (39:23):
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's not good.
Yeah, that's it's not good.
Yeah, I was I was showing Cindythe video of Berkeley.
Buckley.
Sorry.

SPEAKER_04 (39:36):
Um that was a passive aggressive way of saying
you don't like his name.
I get it.

SPEAKER_01 (39:42):
Oh, bullshit.
And she was saying Rottweilerand possibly German Shepherd,
she was in the pet industry forlike 30 years.

SPEAKER_04 (39:51):
Doing what?

SPEAKER_01 (39:52):
So she's the actually she's actually the one
with Ellie that said that shelooked like that salute geek or
whatever.
And then looked it up, like, yep, just a smaller version.

SPEAKER_04 (40:00):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (40:01):
What did she what did she do in the pet industry
for um I think she worked in inthe retail part of it.
Um dog treats, dog food, youknow, like the at the pet
stores.

SPEAKER_04 (40:14):
Oh, okay.
Like manufacturing popcorn.
Oh, I gotcha.
Yeah.
Um sorry, go ahead.

SPEAKER_01 (40:23):
No, but she she did that, and so she knows so much
about animals.
And I mean, they feed their dogshomemade fucking dog food.
Buster Roy and Trippy.
If their food isn't moist oranything else, they just like
look at her, look at her Dino, like, what the fuck?
This needs to be gourmet alittle bit.

(40:46):
Yeah, I believe that.

SPEAKER_04 (40:48):
Yeah.
You know, my mom makes all oftheir food for their dogs,
right?

SPEAKER_01 (40:54):
Yeah, I do.

SPEAKER_04 (40:55):
Raw.
I do.
Well, not I don't know if it'sraw, but from all fresh
ingredients, what it's just Imean, props to her.
I'm like, I'm basically at thepoint where I just like get a I
want to get a bucket, you know, get a bucket full of food and
open the back door and justthrow it on the deck.
Like, whatever you get, you get.
You're fine.

SPEAKER_01 (41:18):
Yeah, I made uh for Maggie, I made homemade food for
maybe a month, month and a half.
Then I was like, fuck it, backto the dry.
Yeah.
It's it's a pain in the ass,especially living in a fifth
wheel.

SPEAKER_04 (41:31):
But well, it's yeah, it's a lot of work.
I mean, that's I that's kind ofwhy I brought it up, is it is a
lot of work.
Um, and so anybody that does it,I'm I'm impressed by like like
those two and my mom.
Um yeah.
And it I mean it's a great thingto do.
Uh I don't have the fucking Idon't there's no way I can keep

(41:57):
up with that.

SPEAKER_01 (41:59):
No, uh-uh.
Well, we uh we figured out somestuff with the bulldog, Miss
Maggie.
Well, one she can't hear.
She is deafer than deafer thandeaf now.
She's having a hell of a time.
Uh when she wakes up getting up,her it's like her hind legs

(42:22):
don't work.
It takes her a while to getgoing.

SPEAKER_03 (42:24):
Oh, jeez.

SPEAKER_01 (42:24):
Uh, she was really having a problem holding in her
potty time uh the last last fewdays.
So we've really been having tomake sure that she goes out
after she drinks or eats.
And it just hasn't been good.
Her eyesight's gone.
I gotta here at Josh's house, Ican get her to walk down the
hallway because to go throughhis garage to the back, you

(42:46):
gotta go through the bathroom.
Well, she's gotta have thebathroom light on and then
she'll walk through.
And then if the garage lightisn't on, she won't go until you
turn on the garage light andthen she'll go out back.
And then the the same on the wayin, and it's just yeah.
I mean, 13 years old for abulldog, that's old.

SPEAKER_03 (43:04):
And then on the way home.
I'm sorry.

SPEAKER_01 (43:08):
Yeah.
No, on the way home, uh, fromCindy and Dino's Christina and I
were Christina was because I wasdriving, but looking up a bunch
of stuff on more or less end ofend of life for a bulldog, and
Maggie's got 95% of the shitthat's going on is the end of

(43:31):
the end of line for a bulldog, and it just it's just
heartbreaking for me.
Shit, I've had her for sevenyears now.

SPEAKER_03 (43:37):
Oh yeah.
I yeah, I know, man.

SPEAKER_01 (43:40):
So now I'm laying in the I lay in the middle of the
floor with her and hold her andcuddle her and everything and
just try and spend as much timewith her.
I mean, knowing my luck she'sgonna hold on for another couple
years, I hope, but it justdoesn't just doesn't seem good.

SPEAKER_04 (43:56):
Well, yeah, and I mean If I'm understanding
correctly, it seems like it'ssort of uh excuse me.
It's sort of like there's been alot of changes real fast, real
recently.

SPEAKER_01 (44:12):
Yes.
Just within the last week, weekand a half.
Well, I told you that she ranaway that one that one morning.
Yeah.
I think we talked about that.

SPEAKER_04 (44:21):
Well, we didn't actually.
That was my bad.
I think you you sent me amessage about it, but remind me.

SPEAKER_01 (44:28):
Um she she whines in the morning to get out in Josh's
fish tank, the lightsautomatically come on and go
off.
So as soon as the fish tanklights come on, she wants out.
So she starts whimpering andwhining.
So I opened up the crate andwent to take her out the garage
and she wanna go.
So I opened up the front door.
She went out there and she wentto the rose bushes, peed, and

(44:53):
then looked at me like you're anasshole, and wandered off.

SPEAKER_04 (44:57):
Oh.

SPEAKER_01 (44:58):
Of course, I'm standing there in my skivvies,
and I'm like, fuck.
Now I gotta go in and getdressed.
So I ran in and got dressed.
I didn't run, we know better.
I went in and got dressed, puton my shoes, and started
scouring this two blocks lookingfor Maggie.
Can't find her, can't find her.
Woke up Christina.
Hey, you got a flashlight?

(45:18):
She's like, Yeah, why?
I said, Maggie took off.
So her and Ellie, she got upwith Ellie, figured that Ellie
would find Maggie, and shit.
It was like an hour that we wereout there, couldn't find her,
and then so we went back in thehouse, waited for daylight to
come in, and then just walkedacross the street to the corner
house, and here she is comingout from underneath their steps,
like, what you doing, Dad?

(45:40):
But she couldn't hear me, so Icouldn't I couldn't get her to
come to me.
It's still 6 30 in the morning.
I don't want to wake anybody up.
So I literally walked over andgot the potato, as I call her,
and carried her back to thehouse.
And it's just it's like, youknow, she's just getting lost in
her thoughts and and everything.
So yeah, that was not a funmorning to start.

SPEAKER_04 (46:03):
No, that's that's awful.

SPEAKER_01 (46:04):
I've uh well, I I know open once we go ahead.

SPEAKER_04 (46:12):
I was just gonna say that uh I know how scary that
is.
That uh I know everything youwere going through right then,
where you know, you couldn'tfind her stuff, but uh and and
then the other stuff.
That's it it is heartbreaking.
Like I'm I I feel for you, man.
I'm sorry.

(46:33):
Uh do you guys have a plan?
Uh or a vet or whatever, kind ofon standby.

SPEAKER_01 (46:40):
Yeah, pretty much.
If if it happens up here, because we're up here for
another couple weeks, if it ifit happens up here, yes, we we
have the vet, and then we'lltake care of it and and stuff,
and and then we'll take care ofeverything afterwards because I
don't want her to you know Iwant to have her in my life,
even if she's no longer here.

(47:02):
So I've I've got plans for thatand everything.

SPEAKER_03 (47:04):
Yeah.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (47:07):
Well and then then then I worry about Ellie because
you know, Ellie's her whole lifehas been with Maggie, and then
if we don't have Maggie, I guessI'm just gonna have to give
Ellie to you.

SPEAKER_04 (47:22):
And here I was feeling sympathy for you.
And you're back.
Oh, you know, I think that Iknow that's in that situation,
it's you know, you're thinkingabout the different you know,
there's different layers to it,you know.
It's not just losing losing onedog, it's that you got the other
dog that's attached and stuff, and uh, you know, I uh timing

(47:48):
wise, uh it's never a good timefor this to happen, but you
know, everything happens for areason, I think.
Uh I agree.
And when it should, and I thinkif there's any silver lining
here, um that's that.
Ellie and and you guys um youhave a home here on the ranch.

(48:10):
And Maggie always will as well.
Um matter how it shakes out.
Um I know you guys will do theright thing for um Yeah, there's
I don't want to make her youknow, I don't want to do
anything, what do they say, tooearly or too late.

SPEAKER_01 (48:30):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_04 (48:34):
Right.
And uh I'll I'll you'll know.
And I don't know how you'llknow.
I just know that you from my ownexperience in that uh with that
stuff, and knowing how close youand Maggie are, I know that uh
she'll she'll let you know.

(48:54):
And uh I again I'm sorry, man.

SPEAKER_01 (48:58):
Um I appreciate it.
Yeah, yeah, man.
I'm I'm sure she will let meknow that okay, Dad.
This is enough.

right?

SPEAKER_01 (49:24):

I'm I'm hoping that I can dealwith the not really being able

knowing that she's in pain whenshe gets up and that you know
she can she can't control herher ear and uh whenever she's
gotta go.

be.
