SPEAKER_00 (02:24):
That's fine,
whatever.
That's fine.
Um, yeah.
No, so uh something I wanted totalk about while I have you on
here, but first, and this ismuch more important, um, where
uh where do you land on thewhole Brontosaurus brachiosaurus
thing?
I've been thinking about this alot.
SPEAKER_04 (02:44):
Oh, the fact that
they changed dinosaur names?
SPEAKER_00 (02:47):
Did they change it?
Is that what it is?
SPEAKER_04 (02:49):
I'm pretty fucking
sure they did.
SPEAKER_00 (02:51):
Yeah, yeah.
That sucks, man.
I'm like, whatever happened toold Bronto?
You know?
SPEAKER_04 (02:58):
Whatever happened to
a stagosaurus?
Aren't those something differentnow?
What?
SPEAKER_00 (03:02):
No, that can't be.
He's still at the stag party.
Oh, got it.
You did mispronounce it though,Rob, to be fair.
Steg.
SPEAKER_04 (03:10):
Steg.
SPEAKER_00 (03:11):
Steg.
Uh well shit.
Now I'm looking up Stegosaurus.
One of these episodes we'll getaround to talking about dogs and
stuff, but no.
SPEAKER_02 (03:20):
There's a bunch of
dogs here.
SPEAKER_00 (03:22):

SPEAKER_00 (03:33):
Yeah.
We're bringing Stegosaurus back.
Or Brontosaurus.
Bringing Brontosaurus back.
SPEAKER_04 (03:38):
What's next, boys?
Pluto?
A planet again?
SPEAKER_00 (03:41):
Get me started on
that.
I mean it should be.
We should.
Yeah.
If that's yeah, I mean, I'm alittle surprised that we were
able to bring the Brontosaurusback so easily.
So maybe we should take a shotat Pluto.
SPEAKER_04 (03:54):
Ooh, fun fact.
Maybe for Mark, I'm sure youalready know this, RJ, but
probably.
Mark, do you know where Plutowas founded?
Or discovered?
SPEAKER_00 (04:03):
No.
Disney.
SPEAKER_04 (04:04):
Flagstaff, Arizona.
SPEAKER_00 (04:06):
Oh.
Oh wow.
Yeah, at uh Lowell, right?
SPEAKER_04 (04:10):
Yeah, Lowell
Observatory.
SPEAKER_00 (04:12):
Low.
It's not the old, but it soundslike the old observatory.
SPEAKER_03 (04:17):
Yeah, it does.
SPEAKER_00 (04:18):
Uh I didn't actually
know that.
I didn't know that.
Wait.
So either Pluto has not beenaround for that long, or that
observatory has been around fora really long time.
SPEAKER_04 (04:28):
Uh it's been around
for quite a while.
Since um 1894.
Jesus.
SPEAKER_00 (04:35):
The observatory?
SPEAKER_04 (04:36):
Yeah, I didn't even
know they made telescopes back
then.
Yeah, they had them way back.
SPEAKER_00 (04:42):
What do you think?
You know, Newton and that allthis.
Yeah, it was.
I mean, they did, you know.
SPEAKER_03 (04:48):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_02 (04:49):
It was February
18th, 1930.
SPEAKER_00 (04:52):
That they discovered
it?
Oh no, it was February 18th,1930.
The Lowell Observatory.
Um, did you know that did youknow there was an observatory in
Flagstaff, Mark?
No, I didn't.
Yeah, it's um I've been thereactually.
SPEAKER_02 (05:14):

They don't want to know why hewas there.
Did a little observing.
SPEAKER_00 (05:20):
Okay.
Um which led me to my careertoday as uh astrophotography uh
expert.
SPEAKER_02 (05:30):
Really?
Those yeah, those are lookingpretty nice too, bud.
SPEAKER_00 (05:34):
Yeah, yeah.

For the common folk, it's knownas the Orion Nebula.
SPEAKER_04 (05:49):
Of course you go
with the one that's called
Orion.
Orion.
Oh god.
SPEAKER_02 (05:54):
Oh Ryan.
He's heard that so much.
I know.
Not in a while.
Not in a while.
SPEAKER_03 (06:01):
But a lot.
And different voices andaccents.
SPEAKER_04 (06:07):
Well, now you have
your friend AI, so here anytime
you want.
SPEAKER_00 (06:12):
You know, since you
brought it up, I have a beef
with the AI.
Um, specifically with regard to,you know, it talking dirty, is
it doesn't have a good selectionof voices.
SPEAKER_02 (06:26):
Really?
SPEAKER_00 (06:26):
Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02 (06:29):
Well, yes, come up
with one.
SPEAKER_00 (06:31):
With what?
SPEAKER_02 (06:33):
Can't you ask AI to
make a different voice for
itself?
SPEAKER_00 (06:36):
I don't know.
I never tried that.
I just use it for the wildinappropriate things.
Nothing useful.
SPEAKER_04 (06:43):
There it is.
And if I was a Batman, I betthat you were going for a
British accent, but it's a bittoo cockney.
SPEAKER_00 (06:50):
Oh no, no, no, no,
no, no, no, no.
Uh that I'm uh I was gonna sayI'm glad you mentioned that, but
I'm I think we're all gonnaregret it because let me tell
you uh uh a fact is that uh it'sbrittle accents in porn are
terrible.
It's like well, I don't know.
We just it's like this.
Oh yes, daddy, fuck me, daddy.
(07:11):
Give me your cum, daddy.
It just it's it doesn't do itfor you.
It's not it's horrible.
SPEAKER_02 (07:17):
Can you put it in a
deeper governor?
SPEAKER_04 (07:20):
It's terrible.
SPEAKER_00 (07:22):
That was the worst
accent ever.
What did you say though?
The words that you said Padepo, what'd you say?
SPEAKER_02 (07:27):
I said, can you put
it in deeper, governor?
SPEAKER_00 (07:29):
Oh yeah, you have a
terrible accent.
Let me do that for Governor.
What do you think about signingin a bit deeper?
See, it's just you can't take itseriously.
Oh god, it's so bad.
The number of like porn video uhwe should get off this topic.
So Pluto.
(07:50):
Pluto.
SPEAKER_04 (07:51):
Think they ever
filmed uh porn on Pluto before
it became a not planet?
SPEAKER_00 (07:55):
Well, uh, you know,
I I hear since since it's not a
planet anymore, the pornindustry's really dried up out
there.
What do you think, Mark?
About accents and porn?
No, yeah, well, okay.
No, yeah, British accents andporn.
(08:15):
Start with that.
SPEAKER_02 (08:16):
I don't think I've
ever watched one with a British
accent.
SPEAKER_00 (08:19):
That's weird.
I mean statistically, likeright, okay.
Yeah.
SPEAKER_04 (08:25):
Um statistically?
SPEAKER_00 (08:29):
What do you think
about British accent and porn,
Rob, since you brought it up?
SPEAKER_04 (08:34):
Uh I I based on what
I mean, yeah, you're right.
Yeah.
It's terrible.
SPEAKER_00 (08:40):
Yeah, this is nicely
done, lobbing that back to me.
Thank you.
SPEAKER_02 (08:44):
Yeah.
Yeah.
First I had to listen to hervoice, then I had to look at her
teeth.
SPEAKER_00 (08:53):
Did I have any com
in my teeth?
Oh god.
SPEAKER_04 (08:58):
Well, I've got your
bit staggering your teeth.
SPEAKER_00 (09:01):
Your little jibbly
bibly bats in the mouth if you
want to know the truth of thematter.
I'm gonna go to my list oftopics that I have sketched down
because literally anything onhere has got to be better.
SPEAKER_04 (09:13):
Uh yeah, let's talk
about flea autopsies.
A perfect flea autopsies.
SPEAKER_00 (09:20):
No, it's I have I

I've had since we startedrecording this one, and it's not
even a full one, it's a stenopadpage.
And it just has like things, like 25 things just written on
like, oh yeah, bronnosaurus.
Actually, it says Bronnosaurusquestion mark.
Like, we should get to thebottom of that someday.
(09:46):
I know exactly why we talkedabout it.
SPEAKER_02 (09:49):
Oh, that's right.
SPEAKER_00 (09:50):
Okay.
Are you pretending that youremember too?
No, I'm not.
You do remember now?
No.
Oh, oh, okay.
Yeah, no, it was when there wasuh a working theory uh that we
both agreed on um that there maybe a dinosaur fossil buried on
your property.
Oh yeah, okay.
(10:10):
Yeah, yep.
Turns out it was a root.
SPEAKER_02 (10:14):
Oh.
That was the root cause.
SPEAKER_00 (10:18):
Sure, sure was,
buddy.
Um last time I heard that joke.
Oh, laugh so hard I fell off mydinosaurs.
I fell off my bronosaurus.
SPEAKER_03 (10:31):
Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_04 (10:33):

SPEAKER_04 (11:16):
You just I think you

Uh I would say it's 50 fifty.
No, not even that.
20% of the time I'm setting themup.
The rest of it, I'm just tryingto make talk about something
important, like a giant bone, you know, like from a dinosaur
or something, and he has to makeit dirty.
SPEAKER_02 (11:51):
Everything in my
world is yeah, made dirty.
SPEAKER_00 (11:55):

part of it.
That's unprofessional.
The other is he just sort ofstepped away.
SPEAKER_02 (12:54):

out there for the listeners so
they could they could follow.

learned that his fish was gay.
SPEAKER_02 (15:01):
Oh, okay.
Well, that's a good place tolearn your fish is gay.
SPEAKER_00 (15:05):
I suppose given the
alternatives, that's probably
not the worst one, really.
And then back to you, Mark.
What's the update on thepackages?
SPEAKER_02 (15:14):
Uh she said they're
not coming from UPS, so she
doesn't know when, so I wouldn'treally worry about it.
SPEAKER_04 (15:22):
You know how you
know if your fish is gay?
SPEAKER_00 (15:25):
No, I don't.
How?
SPEAKER_04 (15:26):

I'm stuck on this package thing.
Um I understand the last thingyou said about Mark was don't
worry about it, but I can't.
Uh I think can we can we walkback in?
Can we go back a little bit?
(15:49):
Um what is it coming from UPShave to do with her knowing or
not knowing when it's when it'sshowing up?
SPEAKER_02 (15:56):
I guess it's
probably a uh I would imagine
it's probably Timu or something.
SPEAKER_00 (16:01):
Oh, if it's well,
yeah, if it's a team u, then
it's a fucking crapshoot.
Um, I just heard Robbie in thebackground.

SPEAKER_04 (16:09):
That wasn't that

SPEAKER_00 (16:28):
I thought he was
gonna hang out there with you.
SPEAKER_04 (16:30):
I thought I tried to
get him to stay.
I even texted him, of course.
That's uh futile effort.
SPEAKER_00 (16:36):
I've tried that
before.
Um you know what?
Speaking of texting and Robbieand you to his YouTube channel,
um I texted him a few nightsback and I said, love your
YouTube channel, you should makemore.
He responded back, huh?
H U H.
(16:57):

SPEAKER_04 (17:03):
I blame it on his
mom.
SPEAKER_00 (17:05):
Yeah, that's a I
would too.
Um, I'm just like, really?
One out of you know, 112 attacksyou respond to, and that's what
he said.

(17:27):
Uh alright, so tank is full ofwater.
We don't know when the packagesare coming, Robbie's fish is

The headlights are
always cracked.

SPEAKER_00 (18:27):
Yeah.
Sometimes, man.
SPEAKER_04 (18:31):
How are we uh how

SPEAKER_00 (18:35):
Uh it's getting a
little better.
SPEAKER_04 (18:38):
Good.
SPEAKER_00 (18:38):
Yeah.
I got a puppy kiss today.
SPEAKER_02 (18:42):
Oh.
Oh, that's good.
That's huge.
SPEAKER_00 (18:44):
One.
And he was really excited when Ifirst got up before he realized
what was happening.
Then he ran away.
SPEAKER_02 (18:53):
Is he in the house
yet?
SPEAKER_00 (18:55):
No.

No.
SPEAKER_02 (18:56):

SPEAKER_00 (18:58):
He's a fucking
walking biohazard right now.
He ain't coming to his house.
Although, since you mentionedthat, I'll tell you a funny
thing.
So I went, I went to town todayto get shit, whatever.
Got back shortly before we goton uh to record the thing.
And like I got back and he washe was like kind of excited.
(19:19):
He's like, Oh, you're here, andI'm like, oh hi.
He's like, yeah, and he ranaway.
But like, you know, to recap forthe listeners, this puppy is
very, very young, less than 10weeks almost certainly.
Uh gets along great with mypack, won't fucking leave.
I mean, has a permanent home.
Uh, but it is terrified of me.
Oh, he's never been aroundpeople, I guess.
(19:39):
He's terrified.
Take him food, treats, try togive him pads, but no, he like
runs away.
So I unload the the shit, thegroceries, going in and out of
the the door.
And here at my house, it'sthere's a sliding glass door,
you know, and I go through inthe on the back of the house.
And uh I come in here to go tocome into the studio to record
(20:01):
this, and as I'm walking throughthe living room, I hear tink
tink.
I'm gonna go back in the room.
He's pawing out the door.
And I'm like, you got a lot offucking nerve, bud.
You got a lot of fucking nerve.

SPEAKER_02 (20:39):
Yep, still here.
SPEAKER_00 (20:41):
Did you forget about
the tub?
SPEAKER_04 (20:45):
The uh when he let
it flood?
Yeah.
The oh.
Yeah, I do remember that.
I've tried to read the floor.
Like no.
SPEAKER_00 (20:55):
Okay.
SPEAKER_04 (20:56):
I I'm trying to
separate myself from listener
and guess.
I apologize.
SPEAKER_00 (21:00):
Yeah, don't listen.
Step it up.
Dude, I'll tell if you try tolisten while you're doing this,
uh, you will want to killyourself.
Trust me.
Okay.
So just talk.
Uh all right.
Yeah, pup.
Oh yeah.
So, you know, it's gettingbetter.
It's getting slowly better.
(21:20):
Um, he has uh yeah, oh yeah.
We'll we'll get there.
Um, you know, like is as long asthis is taken now, I'm starting
to get a little concerned.
I'm like, oh god, you know, likeis this is it gonna be a whole
thing?
Like every time there's a newperson, you know?
Like when you guys get back, isit gonna be a whole thing?
(21:41):
Is it like when people come tovisit?
I don't know, which whatever.
Uh what he I'll say this, andthis is really cute.
I'd be it would be adorable ifhe wasn't such a little jerk.
Uh, which he honestly seems likea really sweet little guy, but
uh he's Been a punk.
But no, but this is cute.
(22:03):
Whereas he did not take a likingto me or anything.
He decided Canai was dead.
Really?
And he just follows Kanai aroundall the time.
Everywhere.
SPEAKER_04 (22:18):
That's crazy.
SPEAKER_00 (22:20):
Yep.
And he hangs out with them andthey play and he curls up and
cuddles with them to sleep.
And adorable.
It's really cute.
Yeah.
I was uh I think last night Iwent from Mark's dropped.
I think you probably noticedthat, but I'll probably be back.
Um like last night I was out onthe outside 30 and I drove.
(22:42):
I was driving towards Mark'splace, but what whatever, toward
down that road.
And Lucky and Canai, anytimethey think I'm going over there,
they're they're like, yay, lookover there.
And so Lucky and Canai comesshooting through the barbed wire
fence and they're running acrossthe road, and then this little
biker beep beep beep beep beephe's like bounding, just running
along.
Wait up, wait up, Dad.
SPEAKER_04 (23:03):
That's so cute.
SPEAKER_00 (23:04):
Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_04 (23:06):
I was gonna ask, how
where does Lucky fit into this
mix?
Because Lucky and Kanai are sotight.
SPEAKER_00 (23:11):
Uh Stepdad.
SPEAKER_04 (23:13):
Okay.
SPEAKER_00 (23:14):
Yeah.
All right, that's good.
Yeah, it actually it it's thebest analogy, really, because he
gets along fine with all thedogs.
But you know, Canai, he he actslike Kanai's his his dad.
But then uh well just to giveyou an example, I think it was
last night, maybe the nightbefore, Canai and Lucky and and
the baby were out.
(23:36):
Uh and I don't I don't knowwhere they go.
Sometimes they do stuff.
I like I I I think that uh Luckyand Canai like to go out in the
forest and climb a tree and makeout.
That's what I think.
But they'll be gone.
That's true.
Yeah, they'll be gone for awhile.
And uh anyway, at some pointthey've been gone for a couple
hours.
(23:56):
Not it.
SPEAKER_04 (23:57):
So that was me.
Uh where where does the otherpuppy fall into this whole
mixture?
Because he was the one thatfound uh that found the puppy,
right?
SPEAKER_00 (24:10):
Uh yeah, so let me
finish my story first.
SPEAKER_02 (24:14):
Oh, sorry.
You interrupted Rob.
SPEAKER_00 (24:17):
Yeah.
Uh well he was looking twice.
Uh no, to answer your questionabout where does Lucky fit in.
So anyway, last night they'dbeen gone for a couple hours,
and then uh Hartley, you know,he I hear him get his growls up.
Um, so somebody was coming back, and I see it's Lucky.
And so Lucky came back, justLucky.
(24:39):
And the little the littlejunior, I've been calling him
little junior, he was doo doodoo just walking along with
Lucky, and Canai wasn't there.
He came back like an hour later, and I'm just like, okay, so I
guess Lucky decided to go back.
Can I'm probably like, I gottatake care of some stuff.
Why don't you take the kid?
Come back to the house.
SPEAKER_04 (24:58):
That's adorable.
SPEAKER_00 (25:00):
Yeah, it is cute.
Um, and yes, the other puppy,uh, he's having a blast.
Yeah, he's having a fuckingblast.
He just plays with him all thetime, and puppy likes him.
I haven't had a whole lot ofjealousy, but that's good.
Yeah.
SPEAKER_04 (25:18):
Well, you or any
other dogs.
SPEAKER_00 (25:21):
Uh well, because you
sound pretty jealous.
I'd rather not answer that.
Um I think part of the reasonthat there's no jealousy on the
part of Hartley is that likeHartley, you know, he has a
crate inside.
You know, he spends some timeinside and he sleeps inside
overnight.
And so, like, if Hartley getsbent out of shape, you'd think,
(25:45):
just go in my crib and go tobed.
SPEAKER_04 (25:52):
I'm kind of
surprised because he's pretty
much full grown at this point.
He's he's a big boy.
He's huge, dude.
He's uh I'm surprised you stillhave him inside.
SPEAKER_00 (26:01):
Yeah.
I'm having I I don't know how toquit him.
Oh real attached.
Well uh yeah, I mean, I am realattached to him, of course.
And he's just a great dog.
I'm sure your mom told you allkinds of things about him after
she got back here.
Uh he's just fantastic.
But yeah, like it's not so muchlike, oh, I don't want my baby
(26:24):
outside.
It's like I don't know how to doit.
Like I feel like which isstupid.
It's so not like me, you know, usually like okay, well, you're
old enough, you'll shit, gooutside.
Yeah.
But he's just he's so good inhere too.
Like he's so good in the houseand doesn't he, you know, he's
always clean.
He doesn't go and roll in mud oryou know, dig armadillas out of
the ground, get a bloody facelike Callie.
(26:47):
Um and well, just like so theother day, uh he you know, he
sleeps in his crate overnight.
So we got up, uh, went out andgo potty today.
And he was out playing with thepuppy for a few hours, and then
he wanted to come in, and I likekind of fell asleep for a couple
hours, and like I woke up, I'mlike, oh shit, he's not I didn't
(27:09):
put him in his crate.
And I'm like, Harley! And hejust pops up his head outside
the coffee table with holdinghis antler toy in his mouth.
He's like, Well, I'm here, I waschewing all my toy.
He just go.
That's great.
Um what's next, Mark?
SPEAKER_02 (27:31):
I don't know, I'm
stuck on the yellow puppet.
unknown (27:34):
God damn it.
SPEAKER_04 (27:36):
YouTube yeah, we
should we shouldn't shouldn't
have told him that.
SPEAKER_00 (27:40):
Says the guy who
just got caught watching TikTok
two minutes ago on fulltransparency.
SPEAKER_04 (27:48):
I was actually
trying to look up Hartley's
name.
I'm like, what the fuck is thatdog's name again?
SPEAKER_00 (27:51):
That's worse.
SPEAKER_04 (27:54):
This is hard.
Well, it's hard.
I haven't met him yet.
SPEAKER_00 (27:58):
I know all of your
kids' names.
SPEAKER_04 (28:02):
Yeah.
Yeah, but they've been aroundfor years.
SPEAKER_03 (28:06):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_04 (28:07):
Uh Kai's four.
And little Timmy, he's he justturned two.
SPEAKER_00 (28:11):
Little Timmy.
Well, so uh were you watchingthe videos on Silent Mark?
SPEAKER_02 (28:19):
No, huh?
I was actually stuck on thefuture Rama one that uh Rob
talked about after we're gonnabe a little bit more than the
one we did.
No.
SPEAKER_03 (28:32):
Stop.
Abort, abort Okay.
SPEAKER_00 (28:41):
I thought I thought
you meant you were watching
Robbie's YouTube channel, whichis why you were distracted.
But clearly not.
So moving on.
Uh did I tell you about that UFOI saw, guys?
I don't know if anything here.
(29:01):
Uh here's something that in allseriousness, I'd I'd I'd like to
do since we have you, Rob.
Um we talked about before youlistened to um Patsy, the
episode called Patsy.
Right?
I did.
Which was about Patsy.
Uh spoiler.
Great episode.
Thank you.
Uh one of the things that wementioned um in there that we do
(29:23):
here on the ranch is we havetaken to naming certain parts of
the ranch about family dogs andthe dogs that have made an
impact on our lives and it'sbeen special to us.
And while Patsy's pasture wasthe first thing that we named,
uh the second, immediate second,um, very, very quickly within
(29:44):
the first couple weeks we werehere, uh, was um Lake Lucy.
SPEAKER_03 (29:50):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_00 (29:51):
And Mark, do you
know who do you know who Lake
Lucy is named after?
SPEAKER_02 (29:57):
No, I do not.
SPEAKER_00 (29:58):
Lucy.
That was an easy one.
Yeah.
SPEAKER_02 (30:02):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_04 (30:03):
Her name is Lucy, so
yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00 (30:06):
But uh I kind of
think is uh a very, very special
girl.
Um that I I I met just a coupletimes.
Um, a dog that my brother Robused to have.
And uh I I unfortunately did notget to know her very well, but I
(30:26):
it didn't take very long to Imean, just this little the small
amount of time I spent with her, yeah uh I I knew that she was
special.
Um and so I would I would reallylike to hear the story of Lucy,
if you don't mind telling us,Rob.
Wow.
SPEAKER_04 (30:42):
Yeah, I'd love to
tell it.
And uh first and foremost.
Oh, okay.
Um that'll be the last joke fornow.
Okay, go ahead, please.
Um yeah, firstly, you know, itit's such an honor that you were
willing to name the lake afterher because she's is such a
special animal and being to meand to our family.
(31:05):
So thank you for doing that.
Um Lucy, uh, we got her as anadult.
We adopted her from an Air Forcefamily, and uh at the time I I'd
always had an affinity for blacklabs, and so we'd been searching
for months uh for families thatwere um, you know, trying to
(31:27):
rehome their their black labs.
And Lucy came up on a Facebookpost saying there was a family
at Luke Air Force Base that uhunfortunately one of their
children had uh fallen ill withcancer, and they were really
busy, you know, withhospitalization issues and
doctor's appointments andwhatnot, and so Lucy wasn't
(31:49):
really getting the care andattention that she deserved and
needed.
And so uh another militaryfamily for uh that were friends
of theirs had uh taken her intemporarily and asked them to
rehome her.
So we went and met her, and uhshe's a black lab, American
black lab and sharpe mixture, and she had a a brindle coat,
(32:11):
which so she was really pretty.
She was stocky as shit, yeah.
SPEAKER_00 (32:15):
I I mean I know what
she looked like.
I don't know what that I'venever heard that word.
SPEAKER_04 (32:19):
So it's it's that um
those like copper kind of like
patterns in her black fur.
Yeah, yeah.
So um, yeah, we did a littlemeet and greet just to see, you
know, if she'd be a good fit, ifshe was good with the with
Robbie, and um she was just youknow loving and uh very gentle.
(32:42):
And so it was kind of like oneof those on the spot type deals.
It was like, yeah, we'll takeher right now, and took her home
with us.
And she met our other two dogsat the time, which were Pika and
Murphy, and she fit right inwith them.
SPEAKER_00 (32:55):
And uh let me can I
ask, how old was Robbie at the
time?
SPEAKER_04 (33:00):
Robbie, I want to
say he was I think he was about
two or three at the time.
Yeah, he was real little.
Yeah, wow.
Yeah, what was interesting, youcould tell how good she was.
She was still trying to kind ofget her bearing in the house the
first couple days, and sheknocked him over a couple times
just going too fast and notpaying attention.
(33:23):
And um that was it.
It only took those couple times, and she you know, navigated
around him.
She was always really cautiousaround around him and and other
little kids.
She was really good, yeah, really good natured.
SPEAKER_00 (33:36):
Was she protective
of him?
SPEAKER_04 (33:39):
So what's what's
really funny about her is I
always kind of worried I jokedwith Jamie that uh as big as in
kind of intimidating as she canlook, if somebody ever broke
into the house, we'd be screwedbecause she'd just go up and try
to, you know, give them kissesand give belly rubs.
And there's one time we were ona there's a couple times that we
(33:59):
were on walks as a family, andboth times, well, one one time
in particular where a dog in ourneighborhood had scaled its back
fence and started coming towardsus.
And mind you, this was like atnight time, the street that we
were on didn't have any lightingwhatsoever.
And Lucy was really good athealing when we walked, so she
(34:21):
was always next to me on myright side pretty much all the
time.
As soon as that she saw thatdog, she got about 10 yards
between us and that dog and juststood right there and stared at
it until the dog got uh gotsmart and decided to go back
over the wall it came from.
And uh that was it.
Yeah, she'll when it when weneeded her to protect us, she
(34:42):
was there.
It was awesome.
SPEAKER_00 (34:43):
Yeah, yeah.
That's uh and sorry.
You said she was an adult, buthow old how old was she when you
got her?
SPEAKER_04 (34:51):
So they estimated
that she was uh between two and
three years old, also when wegot her, yeah.
SPEAKER_00 (34:57):
So yeah.
Okay, yeah.
So you had her for a while.
SPEAKER_04 (35:02):
Yeah, well, she
passed when she was eight.
Oh gosh, she sucks.
SPEAKER_00 (35:06):
So that's yeah.
It which, yeah, I mean, whattells tell us about that.
It's uh it's awful and sad, andbut I you know, I gotta say, I
didn't realize she was thatyoung.
SPEAKER_04 (35:19):
Yeah, yeah, it was
tough.
Poor girl.
Um so her we had lost uh Pika uhum uh shortly after we moved
into our current house, and uhwe decided to adopt a pug.
Uh his name's Hank.
And what's his full name?
(35:40):
Hanklin Delanore Whitty.
Or no, Hanklin Roosevelt Whitty.
SPEAKER_01 (35:49):
Okay.
SPEAKER_04 (35:50):
I like it.
So uh we got him as uh a a youngadult too, and so he was still
in puppy mode and he was justrambunctious, rambunctious as
shit, and would just gnaw on herand play with her and yap at her
and stuff.
I mean, he he wore her ragged.
But uh I they got into it and Ithink he nipped her ear real bad
(36:10):
one one day and she uh developeda um oh man, I can't think of
the word, but basically she shebled in her ear inside
internally, and then itcalcified.
So I took her to the vet to haveit looked at, and they said, Oh,
this isn't like a what you thinkit is, it's actually a tumor.
(36:32):
I said, Okay, you know, no, nobig deal.
We'll get it taken out andstuff, and then uh we scheduled
it, and then in the weeks thatit took for her to go in to have
it removed, she starteddeveloping other tumors around
her body.
So got her into the vet and cometo find out she actually had
cancer.
And uh a good friend of mine andalso a neighbor of ours happens
(36:55):
to be a vet and had him look ather labs, and he basically said,
you know, this is terminal.
There's no real nice way to putit, but you know, we can give
her some steroids and some othermedications, some quasi-chemo
meds to kind of help uh keep heraround a little bit longer.
And then mom, being thewonderful person that she is,
(37:16):
offered to uh make her her uhspecial whole food, dog food.
And that really made a bigdifference in in her energy and
how she was handling the cancerand everything.
So I think about uh six or eightmonths from the time that she
got diagnosed, she uh we had asomething come up where
(37:40):
basically we found out that thetumors were also not just uh
subcutaneous, but they were alsointernal.
And one of them had actuallyruptured and she was bleeding
from her lungs, and we had toput her down pretty rapidly.
Oh my god.
So it was it was really tough.
SPEAKER_00 (37:55):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_04 (37:56):
Uh and how long ago
was that um I think that was I
think it was about five yearsago.
Yeah, it was shortly before wegot pregnant with Kai.
SPEAKER_00 (38:08):
Okay.
Yeah.
I mean, that's that's alwaysit's always not long enough.
Um but that's really short.
It's really not long enough.
Uh yeah.
SPEAKER_04 (38:23):
Uh my my personal
take on it too, guys, like uh,
it was too long.
I should have been a better abetter owner.
I should have been a more lovingtowards her and less selfish and
let her die with some grace andsome some dignity, and instead I
I let her go too long and shesuffered as a result.
(38:46):
So that's something that um Ireally carry with me.
SPEAKER_00 (38:50):
That's yeah, uh
that's hard.
I'm sorry to hear that.
I uh and uh you know you despitewhat you despite that, despite
how you feel about that, I knowthat she was loved uh uh beyond
loved, well cared for and allthat stuff.
And it's ch well, that was Imean, that's was that the first
(39:14):
your first uh euthanasia uh withlike as an adult, like when you
had your first adult pets.
Adult pets you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_04 (39:23):
Yeah, no, we we put
Pika down about a year, maybe
even less than a year prior toto her passing.
SPEAKER_00 (39:30):
So but and that's
that's a lot different though,
because she was Pikachu.
She was old.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean you you know that'scoming.
Um and I gotta I you know Igotta say, uh, you know, don't
beat yourself up too muchbecause I think you're talking
about a dog as young as Lucy,uh, for something like that to
just come out of nowhere sofast.
(39:50):
Uh yeah just throw I mean itthrows her it just catches you
off guard um just throws you fora loop.
And uh yes, uh a wonderful ladygone too soon.
SPEAKER_04 (40:03):
Um did you I think
you had maybe talked to did you
take her hunting and stuff or wetried uh so I don't know if
you've ever done any likeresearch into like how to train
dogs for hunting and retrievingand stuff, but um one of the
first things that you you do isyou kind of get them used to
(40:25):
like if obviously you want toverify that they have a
retriever instinct.
But after that, you get to apoint where you start to get
them comfortable around firearmsand the sounds that they make.
And uh she just never could getpast that.
So we take her out with us whenwe go target shooting and things
(40:45):
like that and try to see how shesee if she would get used to
that and comfortable with thewith the noise, so we could
start incorporating theretrieval process with the
gunshot, and she just she nevercould really uh get over the uh
the gunshots.
SPEAKER_00 (41:00):
Okay, yeah.
And I I have to think that thatwould be like that would be
tough to sort of do in general, like to train when you're living
in the city.
Um because you know, it uh thegunshots is one thing, but it's
it's cut it's coming when you'realready upending everything
else.
It's like you're you know, getin the car, drive to someplace
(41:21):
never been before, right?
Strange people to uh um youknow, not like out or the ranch,
just go and shoot off the backdeck.
SPEAKER_04 (41:29):
Yeah, true.
Deal with the really she was areally good uh workout partner
though.
There was a a couple years whereI had a a gym inside of our
garage, and so the first thingthat I would do in the morning,
I'd wake up at say 4-40, and herand I would go for a about a
mile run around the neighborhoodand then come back to the garage
(41:51):
and I'd lift weights and do somecalisthenics and stuff, and
she'd just hang out in thegarage panting while I finished
my workout.
But yeah, she'd go for the runswith me every day.
SPEAKER_00 (42:01):
That's that's sweet.
Uh yeah, and I'm at well, Iimagine it was pretty like you
know, once once the cancershowed up, it was a pretty
quick, drastic change in her,right?
Between when you found it andwhen you lost her.
Yeah.
SPEAKER_04 (42:17):
Yeah, yeah.
She she lost a lot of energy.
I mean, she had a really bad umtumor on her paw, one of her
front paws that continuouslyruptured, and so you know, I was
having to change out uhdressings, you know, multiple
times a day, and just trying tokeep it from getting infected so
she wouldn't make matters worse, you know, get a necrotic leg
(42:40):
that would have to get amputatedand all that stuff.
It was it was pretty ugly, guys.
But I mean I don't I don't beatmyself up too much about it
nowadays, but it's definitelysomething that I I hold with me
to to kind of share with otherswhen they're in that position
where you kind of you're kind ofon the fence about whether what
when's the right time?
And the problem is there's nevera good time for us to say
(43:02):
goodbye to our pets.
But if you think in in processwith love and with um dignity
for for them, you know, to givethem um as as good of um a life
as you can, you know, you'llknow when the right time is.
So I try to share that storywith people that are going
(43:23):
through that.
SPEAKER_00 (43:24):
Yeah, yeah, that's I
I I'm glad that you do.
Um it's unfortunate, it's anunfortunate thing that you see
sometimes you see people hang onto their pets way, way, way too
long.
And yeah, I that's not what youdid.
I you know, like you think youheld on a little bit too long,
but uh, you know, uh well, acouple episodes ago, Mark and I
(43:47):
were talking about this with uhhis sweet Maggie, just like you
know, uh uh despite how much youlove them and want to have them
around, if they're not enjoyinglife anymore, then it's you
know, it's time.
Yeah, that's not it's not whatyou want for them.
So I do appreciate you sharingthat that story and hopefully uh
(44:08):
it's it's always one of thosethings.
I think you you go through it,you understand a lot better.
But it's one of those thingsthat I think uh you know people
people need to really thinkabout it because you don't you
don't really know that feelinguntil you're there.
Um because it's not it's not aseasy, it's not as cut and dried
(44:29):
as it sounds.
Uh no, it's not.
SPEAKER_01 (44:34):
Yeah.
Um knowing knowing the righttime, that's the that's the hard
part.
SPEAKER_00 (44:39):
Yeah.
Yeah.
Right.
And you know, with and again, uhwith a cancer diagnosis and you
know, that just coming up out ofnowhere, it's that's a whole
different ball of wax.
Um you know, when they'regetting older, at least you you
know, at least you see it comingto an extent.
(44:59):
Uh I had, you know, I'm sure youremember very similar uh
situation with Ender, my cat.
Yeah, very, very similar.
Um little Enders.
But yeah, so thank you forsharing that.
Um and you know, you thank me,but I'll thank you for letting
(45:21):
letting us uh give her uh a homeon this ranch forever.
SPEAKER_04 (45:30):
Yeah, well, mom made
a good point about this too, is
I don't think you quiteunderstand the gravity of of
allowing their legacy tocontinue on in a place like
that.
It's it's pretty humbling andit's amazing.
And I've been saying it for awhile, but I'm definitely next
time we come out, I'm gonna I'llbring her ashes with me because
I'd like to scatter her ashesout there.
SPEAKER_00 (45:53):
That that's that's
that'd be very sweet, yeah.
Um and I appreciate you know Iappreciate what you're saying.
Uh and thank you.
Uh I I feel like uh I've talkedabout it before, that if not for
Patsy, uh if not for the Patsy'sand the Lucy's in our lives,
(46:16):
right?
Uh this place wouldn't exist.
Um so it's that's just you know,it's the right thing to do.
Um and I'm glad that uh youp.
So I was sorry, Mark.
It was just funny how I heardthat yup.
Uh yeah.
(46:36):
Um and then and then now Mark'sa part of the family.
Ugh.
