RJ went down a YouTube rabbit hole at midnight watching West Coast swing dance competitions in Singapore. This led to a completely serious investigation into why nobody has brought the Macarena back. Then there was a road trip to Palestine, Texas to mail a Mother's Day gift, a spontaneous decision to try a new chicken finger place instead of Chicken Express, and 27 minutes of waiting for food that absolutely did not earn it. This episode contains an unsolicited fake ad, a genuine consumer warning, and a promise to bring back the Macarena. Set & Centered is a public service.

In this episode:
• Chimp Crazy: still unwatched, still being recommended with increasing urgency
• A midnight YouTube wormhole: West Coast swing dance competitions, random pairings, random songs, and one very talented dancer
• Why hasn't anyone brought the Macarena back — and the footage from Mom's wedding that may hold the answer
• Cowgirls and Angels: a movie Mark watched, really liked, and cannot name
• The Mother's Day mission: Palestine TX post office, closing time, and a gift that shall not be named
• Layne's Chicken Fingers, Palestine Texas: 27 minutes, 8-10 staff members, chicken thumbs, sauce that tasted like ketchup and pepper, and toast that tasted like nothing
• Chicken Express: an unsolicited fake ad, a genuine endorsement, and a redemption run already in planning
• Rob calls at exactly the wrong moment and gets an earful about dry chicken for 20 minutes
• The Set & Centered public service announcement: wear sunscreen, and don't go to Layne's

Um, yeah, chimp crazy.
And I gotta tell, you know, anybody listening, uh watch

(01:00):
watch this show.
It's called Chimp Crazy.
Just watch this fucking show.
I mean, like I told you, Mark,I'll tell people, don't don't
worry about it.
Don't watch the trailer, don'tread the description, don't go.
Like, what is this about?
Just watch it.
It's four episodes.
It's a mini-series, it's fourepisodes, and it's just Banana

(01:24):
Town.
So, and I can't, I just I Idon't want to say anything about
it because part of why it'sgreat is and crazy is the twists
and stuff.
Ugh, all right.
Okay, I got it written down.
Cool.
Yeah.
What movie did you watchtonight?

Speaker (01:44):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
You it was an hour ago.

Speaker (01:47):
I know it was it was a uh about a little girl that uh
became part of uh rodeo.
Oh shit.
She was riding bulls.
No, she was doing the um the uhparade stuff, the drill stuff
when they first come in holdingthe flags and stuff like that

(02:08):
with the tricks and stuff.
And she long story short, shewas looking for her daddy
because she didn't know who herdaddy was.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Oh, she was looking for her daddy, yeah.

Speaker (02:17):
I said and he was uh he was a rodeo writer, I guess.
You know, so yeah, it wasreally good.
It was uh it was uh somethingdifferent for us compared to
what I usually watch.
Yeah, um YouTube.
Was it a sad movie?
What's that?

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Was it sad?
Was it yeah, it was there wasnever mind.

Speaker (02:38):
I don't know why I'm at you don't even know what the
fuck movie's called, so I don'tremember what the fuck movies
are called unless it's like StarWars.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
Well, yeah, but I'm just saying, like it's kind of
pointless to ask anything aboutit because if you said yes, it
was funny, it was dramatic, itwas the best film I've seen in
my whole life.
Like, and what was it called?
You're like, I don't fuckingknow.
Great.

Speaker (03:01):
All I know is it was it was a good fucking movie.
Oh, you did like it.
Yeah, I did like it.
It was good.
Did Christina like it?
Yes, she really did.
Yeah, did she pick it?
No, I actually did.
I wanted something a little bitmellower and stuff, even
better.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Yeah, you you sought this movie out.
I don't know what it's called.
Nope.
What was it on?
TV.
No, you don't have TV.
You had the the Netflix or Ithink it was on Prime.

Speaker (03:30):
Okay.
I I will uh get back to you ata later episode.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
No, first of all, you probably won't.
Nope.
Um let me ask my guy.
Sometimes he thinking what'sthe name of the prime movie
Little Girl or Rodeo Daddythingy.
There's probably a million ofthem.
Cowgirls and angels.
That's it.
Boom.
There you go.
See, and I was on the verge offiring my guy.

(03:58):
I was telling you earlier.
I'm like, I may have found abetter guy.
Oh, it has uh what's his facein it?
James Cromwell.
Yes.
Is it was that did that turnout to be her?
That can't be her dad.

Speaker (04:07):
No, that that was uh he knew her grandpa that had
passed away.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
He so this is just a guy who knew her grand.
Wait, was she looking for herdad or grandpa?

Speaker (04:18):
Her her dad.
She her grandpa had passedaway.
She'd uh the mom got pregnantby the dad and the dad, and then
the she had never known herdad.
So okay.
Yep.
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Why why didn't we even bought that?
I don't know.
Why the hell?
I know.
Why didn't I just drop it whenI said let's drop it?
Your mind doesn't work thatway.
It does not.
It doesn't.

Speaker (04:44):
I've gotta know, I've gotta know.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Speaking of getting to know, I'll tell you this.
So you talk about your YouTubewormholes, yes.
And I I don't I really don'tget that.
Like I'm and maybe it's becauseI don't use YouTube that much,
and like the algorithm doesn'tknow you know the right things
to suggest to me or whatever.
Because like when I watch avideo on YouTube, and I was
like, oh you know, playing inNext in five seconds, right?

(05:09):
So I'm like, no, that soundsstupid, I don't want to watch
that.
But you you probably have somany millions of hours logged in
there that it's like at leastthey gotcha.

Speaker (05:18):
Yeah, yeah.
I well after Christina goes tobed at night, that's what I do
is I sit there and watch theYouTubes.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Yeah, yeah.
Um, but anyway, um I I guess Iwent down the closest thing to a
wormhole that I I could go downon YouTube last night.
Um there's this thing, I can'tremember what it's called.
Um is it like open swing dancecompetition?
I think open swing dance.
It well not open swing dance, but like swing dance open
competitions.
There's a thing called theAsian West Coast swing swing

(05:48):
open I watched, um, and it wasjust a video of uh two you know
two people dancing.
Right.
And uh I'll tell you why.
There's two reasons why thisturned into a rabbit hole.
One the guy dancer was reallysexy.
I should have known.

(06:10):
Well, it was I mean, not youknow, not my type, but like, you
know, the dancing, I'm like,dang.
Because you know, talenteddance is very fucking really
nice to watch.
Right.
Um, and so a couple videos withhim dancing on it, you know,
and then I'm like, what in theactual hell is this anyway?
Because it was like a dancecompetition, but at the

(06:34):
beginning of each video, it waslike they would draw names out
of a hat.

Speaker (06:39):
Yeah, freestyle.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
Uh what?

Speaker (06:42):
They they they call it a freestyle, so they draw the
name of the man and then thename of the woman, and then they
get to pick one of like two orthree songs to dance to.
Oh, you're not actually you'renot actually right about that.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Um I am on the ones I watch.
Well, it's this is different.
This is different in an evencooler way because um yeah, and
it's not man and woman in thisone, it's leader and follower or
whatever.
You can sign up to be a leaderor a follower, and yeah, so the
the pairings are random, whichyou hit on that, but in this
one, so are the songs.

(07:16):
Okay, they don't know what songthey're gonna dance to until it
starts playing.
Oh, okay.
It's wild.
And like most of the songs, too, are not like it's not like
you know, toxic by BritneySpears, or it's it's usually a
DJ mix or a mix, you know, it'snot the original song in most of

(07:37):
the cases, and so you know, thetempo, the beat, everything is
something that they've neverheard before, and they just
immediately fucking startdancing.
Isn't that isn't that trippythat they can do that?
Yeah, and uh and with somebodythat that they don't know about
necessarily even, and it wasjust wild.

(07:57):
And so, and plus that dude, like he, you know, I was kind of
joking, like his moves werereally really awesome, like to
watch, uh, not from a hornyperspective.
I'm like, man, he's reallyfucking talented.
Um, so I just was watching, Iwatched like 50 of these fucking
videos.
Holy shit, that's good for you.
Uh well, no, it's not good, butit's a lot for me, I'll say

(08:21):
that.
But yeah, it's I mean, if youI'm telling you, just anybody
listening, it's it's so weird, but like look it up.
Uh, there's different compwhole different competitions,
what they call them, likewhatever.
But Asian, I think it's AsianWest Coast Open.
Huh.
Look that up.
That's one of them.
It's I guess one of the biggestones in Singapore.
Uh yeah, should have known wewere overseas.

(08:44):
Yeah, well, most of them were, like, but also they had some in
Stockholm and like, yeah, justeverywhere.
But uh let me tell you how Igot there.
I'm waiting in the first place.
I was uh I was listening to oneof my podcasts or whatever last
night after we got back from uhPalestine.

(09:06):
Uh-huh.
Uh I dropped you off, went blahblah got settled in.
I was listening to my show, oneof my shows, and I guess it
wasn't a very good one because Ijust started thinking about
other stuff.
And uh I I thought to myself, why hasn't anybody brought the
Macarena back?
Oh shit.
And then I thought to myself, that's a really good question.
Don't you think?

(09:27):
Yeah, because they bringeverything back, they re reboot
it, you know, all the time.
Yep.
And that was big.
I mean, you couldn't get awayfrom that damn thing back in the
day.
Uh but why hasn't anybodybrought the Macarena back?
And so in the first step toanswer this question, I'm like,
well, maybe they have, and Ijust don't know because I don't

(09:48):
want G2.
No, they really haven't.
But this uh this is how I goton on this dance conference this
uh Asian West Coast open whatif then because and this guy is
one of the videos was um youknow again rant random pairing
between the two, this guy andsome other girl, and it was like

(10:10):
a dance hip hop, whatever DJmix Macarina.
And so I'm watching this, I'mlike, first of all, what the
hell is this thing that I'mwatching right now?
Right, they're not doing theMacarena, but they're doing
stuff that has a little Macariniin it, they're doing to the
song Macarena, and also why didthey draw a name out of the hat?
Right, and also why they why sothere's all these questions

(10:33):
that I'm trying to answer whilstlooking at the dump truck on
this guy, and I'm like so that'swhat I got on that.
Oh, and I don't know, but Iwanted to ask you because you're
more clued into the the stuff, the social you're chronically
online, right?
Uh did they bring the Macarenaback?

Speaker (10:51):
No, I mean I don't know, but I imagine right now
there's two things going throughpeople's heads.
Uh-huh.
One is they're going, heyMacarena.
And the other one is like theywent to Palestine, it's in
Texas, people.
Palestine Texas.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
Yeah, I think it's mostly the based on how that
song works.
I think maybe they werewondering about Palestine for a
second until and then it's justlike for anybody who was you
know old enough to even rememberbecause I was pretty young when

(11:26):
it came out.
Anybody who was just old enoughto remember anything knows
exactly what I what happenedwhen I said, you know?
I'm watching some of course Iwatched a couple videos of like
the actual mucker.
Yeah.
Do you remember the musicvideo, like the original one?
Yeah.
It was so funny.
Yeah.

(11:46):
Because you have these, I guessit was a girl band, I don't
know, and they're singing fivegirls, and then it cuts to these
two, like not old, but older.
Sort of pretty old dudessinging by themselves at one
microphone.
They look like they're dressedlike like your your old uncle

(12:07):
who's you know uh used carsalesman, and he's pretty good
at it.
So he wears suits, not greatsuits, and then he just has his
buddy, you know, and they'realways together.
You can tell it's not a gaything, but it's always like you
know, Uncle Sal and his buddyClive.
And they're just like, hey, youwant to sing this song?

(12:28):
Sure, why not?
Because it's they're so becausethat's the thing, these girls
are dancing to shit, and thesetwo are just so casual, you
know.
You remember there's just likeand they're just kind of like
shaking their shoulders andsinging that.
Yeah, it's like they it'salmost like they were walking
through the shoot for the musicvideo.
Oh, pretty much.
Like, hey, you guys want tosing a song?
Yeah, we got we got fiveminutes.

(12:48):
Yeah.
Let's make a one-hit wonder.
Yeah.
That would have been well uhmid-90s, I think.
Right?
Yeah.
It's gotta be right aroundthere, yeah.
So I'll say uh my mom's notgonna be happy that I say this,
but um the Macarena was dancedto at her wedding with Mike.

(13:13):
Oh sh.
There's footage.
Oh, footage that I haven't seenin a long time, but that I'm
I'm thinking now.
I mean, dig that up.
Yes, yes, definitely needs tobe brought up.
Yeah, and seen, and maybe evenpublished.
Oh, yeah.
Maybe we I mean we got aYouTube channel.

(13:34):
Uh-huh.
We have ways of getting thisstuff out there, you know what
I'm saying?
Yeah.
And I just I vi I I I don'tknow if I've ever seen the
video.
I do remember the the ceremony.
I remember how old I was whenthey got married, but I was not
a tiny little kid.
Wait, how old are you about ummaybe 12?
I don't know.
12, 13, let's call it that.

(13:55):
Okay.
And so, you know, I rememberthe wedding, I remember the
reception.
And I do remember them dancing.
Um To the Macarena.
I can't hear you.
I know, I I'm petting Finley.
Yeah.
And I'll say this, I'll saythis actually, now that I'm
thinking back on it, one thingthat I think is great here, why
we definitely need to get thefootage, is I distinctly
remember watching people do theMacarena.

Speaker (14:19):
Oh damn.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
As in I wasn't in it.
The Macarina.
So and there's a chance thatI'm remembering the footage of
it and I wasn't.
But I can't wait to see this.
God.
It was uh I know.
I'm making it, I'm writing itdown.
This is a this is a podcastmission.

(14:41):
You know what?
Maybe this is what brings backthe Macarena.
So you have a pen and paper?
Oh my god.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry, that's soinconsiderate of me.
All I have is a Finley.
Um I'm sliding a pen under thescreen for you.

(15:02):
Oh, I got it.
The butt.
Yeah, that one.
That one, yeah.
There you go, you got a pen?
Yeah.

Speaker (15:07):
Cool.
I'll write on my hand.
It's okay.

unknown (15:10):
Oh, Jesus.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
Um here.
I'm an eady bitch.
I'm sliding a pad of paper.
It's not a big, it's not a bigone, but fucking post-it note.
No, a stack of post-it notes.
Okay.
This is true.
It's a whole pad.

Speaker (15:29):
Maybe I'll draw the stick figure so when you flip
through it, they move.
You should if you can.
I can't.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
Um, well, what color post-its are they though?
Uh I would say they're like awhite or no, they're slate.
But well, it's fun though,right?
Sure.
Like it's different.
Yeah.
I don't know if you notice.
I I don't have any canaryyellow post-its.
I've never noticed that.
You haven't?
Look, like I've got red ones.

(15:56):
I've got white ones.
I don't have I don't use thethe pastel yellow.
Huh.
Yeah.
Because I'm a transsetter.
Hero.
Oh, what?
Transsetter.
Oh, okay.
I thought you were I thought itwas somehow.
What'd you think I said?
Trans?
No.
Not a trans or whatever thatis.

(16:16):
Trans.
Transitter?
Trans.
Transsexual.
Well, you were in the navy.
Yes, I was in the navy.
Six years in the navy, according to the footage that we
or whatever clips we have.
Alright.
You know what?
I think our odds are pretty.
Well, I don't want to jinx thewhole project, but I think we

(16:37):
have a pretty good shot atbringing back the Marcarina
because we brought back theBrontosaurus.
Right.
That was pretty easy, really.
That was.
Um, in a way, I think I don'tknow if we ever actually just
settled a decided, but I thinkwe did bring back Pluto, kind
of.
I we at least started into it.
Yes.
Yeah, we got we made someheadway there.

(16:57):
Yes, we did.
So that's this is exciting.
This could be a whole new era.

Speaker (17:06):
So what has set and center done for you?
Oh, they brought back Pluto, the Macarena.
Rhonosaurus.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
Look, it's a public service.
You're welcome.
Yes.
Uh you know, send us a tip orsomething.
Just a tip.
Our patch it tune.
Platoon, Plantune?
What's that website that peoplehave?
Uh pistachio.
Throws you, oh, it hit me onit.
Starts with a P.
Some of the you know, the vloggroup podcast people that you

(17:36):
can give them.
Do you have any idea what I'mtalking about?
No, because I don't listen topodcasts.
No, it's more a YouTube thing,though, I think.
Um, Patreon.
There you go.
Yeah.
That I don't even know whatthat is, but pistachio.
I don't know.
Pontiac.
Pontiac.
Hit us up on the Pontiac.
Uh hey.
Yep.
Uh I was gonna say that'ssomething else we could bring
back now.
The what the Pontiac Vierro?

(17:57):
No, just Pontiacs.
Yeah.
I was like, nah.
I think we're better withoutthem.
Yeah.
Uh so we went to Palestine.
Oh, we went to Palestine.
Almost jumped the gun.
Uh it's kind of exciting.
Uh we got a little somethingdifferent today, huh?
Yeah.
We have our first sponsor.
Um, which is like oh, I'm notsupposed to say that.

(18:20):
It's supposed to be like I'dlike to take a moment to talk to
you.
Oh, I'm not gonna do it likeI'm joking.
No, but seriously.
This episode of Set and Centeris brought to you in part by
Chicken Express, founded in 1988in Bemburg, Texas.
Chicken Express, freshness atthe heart of every bite.
Each piece of their chicken, always fresh and never frozen,

(18:41):
takes a flavor-filled journey,meticulously marinated in a
secret recipe batter, masterfully cooked to golden
perfection.
The result, a hot, juicy burstof flavor that's uniquely Texan,
uniquely Chicken Express.
Become a part of their family.
Which is not an actual ad.
I just made it up on the flyreading their website right now.

(19:05):
Okay, but the re but the reasonwhy?
Oh, yeah, here we go.
Because well, I'm gonna sort ofback into what I want to do.
Don't you always yes too easyto do.
It's more of no okay.
I won't I'm gonna sort of backinto the like what I want to
talk about, which you know wedon't want to talk about because

(19:26):
you were there yesterday.
Yeah.
But the the reason I said thingout chicken express is chicken
express is amazing.
Yes, it is.
And when they say a hot, juicybirth of flavor, man, good.
And it's this is we're stilltalking about chicken express
over there.
Okay.
Okay.
It's chicken.
Yeah, but uh I have a newappreciation for chicken

(19:49):
express, always loved it, superawesome.
I don't know if it's just aTexas thing, but it it it is a
very Texas thing in that youknow it's where they start and
all this stuff.
Oh, so good.
And I'll tell you why I saythat.
Because we went to Palestineyesterday, Mark.
Yes.
To we had to race up there umto get to the post office where
they close, right?

(20:10):
So we could send the uh thingto like well, you can talk, we
can talk about it now becausethis will post after that,
right?

Speaker (20:18):
It should, yeah.
Uh unless she stays up late atnight.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
She does well, I think you've kind of blown the
cover here.
It doesn't matter.
She knows we won't talk aboutwhat it was because that's still
a surprise.
Mail my mom a Mother's Daygift.
Yes.
I don't know why.
Yeah.
I was afraid of giving awaywhat it was and she'd hear, but
no, no.
So a gift.
And I kind of was I should havedone it a few days earlier, but

(20:44):
blah blah blah.
And it was like the last day Icould, so we had to go all the
way to Palestine to do it tomake sure it got there in time.
So we drove up.
I'm like, you wanna go toPalestine mailbox with me?
You're like, yep, yep, yep, let's do it.
So we went up there and we wentuh poked around a few stores,
whatever.
And in the same in this bigparking, not parking lot,

(21:05):
shopping center, uh, where thechicken express is, which we get
that's the chicken express thatwe get the chickens from where
we go up there.
Right?
Yep.
That same shopping center, theyhad a new a new place, a new
chicken fingers place.
And it was I'm like, you wannatry this?
Like, try a new place, and yousaid sure, why not?

(21:27):
And you're fucking asshole.
You ruined our whole night bysaying that.
Yes, I gosh.
And I don't wanna like I don'twant to name and shame or
anything.
Yes, I do.
What was it called?
Lanes.
Lanes.
Lanes, just lanes, yeah.
Okay, lanes I I believe it wasjust yeah, I think I like

(21:48):
there's more words.

Speaker (21:49):
Lane's chicken chicken and shitty service.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
Oh, lanes chicken fingers.
Okay.
Yeah, I w I want to make sure Iget the name and everything
right.
Uh Whereas my fake uh ChickenExpress ad, um, you know what,
even though Chicken Expressdidn't actually sponsor us,
we're sponsoring them.
Yes, we are.
Because we're anti-sponsoringthis fucking Lane's chicken
Lane's Chicken FingersPalestine.

(22:14):
All right, I want you to walkus through it, Mark.
I almost can't.

Speaker (22:18):
Okay, so we'll see if we can make this not run over.
Uh so I said, yeah, sure.
Can I go ahead and inject alittle bit?
No.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
Can I put in a little no?
No, go ahead.
Can I drop a uh no no no?
I just want no, I just want toadd that we uh we left the ranch
at like three, you know, we gotdone the post office close to
five, you know, whatever it wasall set.
We hadn't eaten lunch oranything, right?
Right.
Poked around a couple stores,oh, picked up some orders from

(22:52):
Walmart, like groceries.
So point being that we we werea little hungry, and I think
both getting just a little tiredbecause we were a little
hungry.
Yep.
Maybe a lot hungry.
Maybe it's like we're sittinglike, you want to try this this
new place?
And you said again, sure, whynot?

Speaker (23:09):
All right, there you go, take it from there, but so
we pull in.
Uh there's a couple people inthere, we're like, okay.
And so the people in front ofus order, and then it took a
while for them to get to us.
We're like the next ones inline, and then so we finally
ordered.
We ordered uh two five-fingeruh well, two, yeah, two orders

(23:32):
of the five-fingered uh chickenstrips or chicken tenders.
Uh one was spicy, one wasregular, and then we also
ordered a three-fingered one forChristina to bring home to her.
And what it was the meals, right?
Yeah, it was the meals.
So we had we're talking chickenfingers, fries, and toast.
And uh we had two sides, andshe had one for the the dipping

(23:52):
sauce.
They weren't sides, they werethe dipping sauce.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
Yeah, so the whole the whole meal was chicken
fingers, toasts, fries, and somesauce.
Yeah, which every chicken placehas their own little special
sauce, right?
So, of course, they had theirlean sauce.
Yeah, they can they can keeptheir lean sauce.
Sorry, this is your story,please.

Speaker (24:07):
Oh, it's okay.
And then we got our number, wewent and filled up our sodas.
Another gal ordered.
Uh, she sat down at the table,we sat down at the table next to
her, and we're sitting therewaiting, and we were waiting and
waiting, and then anotherperson came in, she ordered her
stuff, went to get her soda, came back around, and left with

(24:29):
her stuff.
And the other gals there werestill there, and then another
guy walks in, orders his stuff, fills up his soda, comes back
around the counter, they handhim his stuff, and then finally,
you know, the little gal cameout, the little uh cashier gal.
She was I will never I will notdog her because she came out
and apologized.
It was taking so long.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
She was nice, yeah.

Speaker (24:50):
Yep, and then they finally brought the other gals
food out.

Speaker 1 (24:54):
I actually went, um, I know this is your story, but
we ordered, we got our sodas, and I was like, I was like, I'm
I'm I'm gonna step outside.
Do you mind waiting for theorder?
Because I was, you know, I geta little need to burn off some
nervous energy sometimes.
So I went outside and just havea smoke and kind of walk around
parking lot in my head.

(25:15):
This is a thing where likebefore I'm even done with my
smoke, probably, you're gonnacome walking out the restaurant,
the food, right?
Right, right.
This is what I thought.
This is this is what I thought.
So we go back in, and uh so Iwas probably outside for well,
seven minutes, right?

Speaker (25:29):
Uh at least seven to ten, yeah.
There you go.
And then there was uh watchingpeople go through the
drive-thru, pull out, go throughthe drive-thru, pull out, go
through the drive-thru, pullout.
Like I said, the other littlegal that was sitting at the
table by us, she got her stuffleft.
Um, we're still sitting andwaiting.
We're still sitting andwaiting.
More people are going throughthe drive-thru, more people are

(25:49):
going through the drive-thru.
Mind you, all together, threethings of fries, eight chicken
tenders that are regular, andfive that are spicy.
Twenty seven minutes later, weget our flipping food.
You can say fucking food.

Speaker 1 (26:07):
Was it really 27 minutes?

Speaker (26:08):
It was 27 minutes from the time we ordered.
I looked at the receipt fromthe time that we ordered till
the time we got our food.
And granted, once again, thelittle gal that that uh was at
the cash register when shebrought out the food, she
apologized to us that it took solong.
So I'm good with that.
Sure.
I you know, but 27 minutes, andyou watch people walk in after

(26:29):
you getting your their food,yeah.
It's like you are a chickenfingers and fucking French
fries.
Well, uh and a piece of toast.
Yeah, yeah.
And it's so yeah, it's likesorry, here's good.

Speaker 1 (26:42):
Go ahead.
No, you go, man.
You're no well, you're hittingthem hard, man.

Speaker (26:47):
Drop that shit in a fucking fryer basket, pull it
up, and give us eight of one, five of the other with some
fries, a piece of toast in ourdipping sauces, and let us out
the door.
It's not like you got our sodasfor us, we got our sodas.
We did, yeah.
And then it's like, holy shit.
So then we get out in the rig,we end up talking to Rob.
Fuck you, Rob.
And uh Ryan tries his.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
Yeah, because we were actually gonna like our plan in
this again.
We were hungry, kind of hungryand tired.
Our plan was to get it and jumpin the truck, and we'd eat it
on the way back.
Yep.
But Rob called when we got wegot in the truck.

Speaker (27:23):
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, so we got in the truck,Rob called, so we talked to Rob.
Ryan tried his, and he's like,Oh, you need to try yours.
And I'm like, Oh, and and Ryanhas that look on his face, and
I'm like, Shit, it's likesomebody tried to serve him
vegetables.
And so I tried mine, it sucked.
It was dry, it was terrible.
I mean, the best part about itwas the Dr.

(27:44):
Pepper that I got myself.
And so we, you know, we satthere and talked to Rob for a
while, and then we drove back toour uh, you know, back to the
ranch.
Uh Ryan dropped me off uh atour place, so I brought
Christina's to her and I said, Idon't think this is very good,
but you know, so long storyshort, Christina ate one chicken

(28:06):
finger and a few fries andhanded me the rest.
And so I dunked this shit inthe ranch jalapeno stuff they
had so I could choke it down.
And it's it's like sucks.
Uh Christina almost went backto Palestine today just so we
could get chicken express.

Speaker 1 (28:21):
Yeah, yeah, well, and that's part I think that's part
of uh me going so hard on thechicken express here is like you
know, it's the close thing Ican get to doing that right now.
Yeah.
Because yeah, it's like youneed some redemption.
Um, but let's yeah, and so afunny thing too, because I think
we talked to Rob for about 20minutes, and at some point I

(28:43):
was, you know, because we'retalking to him, and then I'd
say, like, oh god, this isfucking terrible.
And you know, 15 minutes inhe's like, Why are you still
eating it?
I'm hungry.
I'm hungry.

Speaker (28:53):
But uh don't eat the lane sauce, it's terrible.
Well, it's yeah, at least tous, at least to us the lane
sauce was.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
No, it's terrible.
It dude, it's it's not like oneof the like I said, at least
chicken places have their ownlittle sauce.
I don't think chicken expressdoes actually, which I kind of
respect.
I'm like, you want some ranch?
You want some gravy?
Oh, they're gravy by the way, chicken express.
Oh my god.
Oh, but uh no, they uh it's sothey have their lean sauce, and

(29:21):
this was not a thing where likethat's not really the flavor for
me.
No, this was bad.
It was terrible, and this wasso bad that kind of to jump off
what you said about Christinanot finishing it.
So last night, kind of late atnight, excuse me, um, I was I
was hungry.
It'd been a while since we hadgotten back, and I had leftovers

(29:41):
and the box there and openedthe box, and like it's chicken
fingers and toast and fries.
It's like this is these are mypeople, right?
Yeah, I first thing the saucewas so bad.
My first order of business wasanything that had touched the
sauce.
I picked out and threw away.
Like it was that fucking ittasted to me like you take a

(30:08):
because it was just like thelittle condiment cup, right?
Right.
So basically you take that, youfill it two-thirds with ketchup
and the rest with pepper.
Like it just tasted like catketchup and pepper and mostly
pepper, and just gross.
Yeah.
And then once I cleared out allthat shit, I took a bite of one

(30:29):
of those little fucking chickenfingers.
I'm like, ugh, nope, I'm out.
Threw it all the way.
But let me say something elseabout those chicken fingers.
Go ahead.
We got the five finger combo.
Right.

Speaker (30:42):
Excuse me.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
Uh these were if you go to a chicken finger place,
they're not the size of chickenfingers that you'd expect.
Chicken dicks.
They were chicken thumbs.
Yeah.
Like they were, and I'm notjoking here.
Like I think most people arepicturing.

(31:05):
Um, you know, you go go to achicken finger place.
Chicken finger is gonna be, Iwanna say five to six inches
long.
Yeah, but two, you know, theykind of got a little uh taper on
them.
So at their widest, maybe inchand a half, two inches wide,
three quarters of an inch thick, you know.
Right.
But these are no joke.

(31:26):
Two two three inches long tops.
Yeah.
And they were and they werekind of like round almost,
right?
Like you didn't have that flatflattish sort of or chunkiness
that it was Yeah, it just no.
Yeah, and so chewy.
Oh god.

(31:46):
And like, oh god.
And I remember when I openedit, like I opened mine right
before Rob called in the truckand then had a couple French
fries.
Um the fries when they were hotand fresh were fine, and that's
the best thing I can say aboutthem.
Yeah.
I remember I ate, I'm like,well, I don't buy the rest of
it, but fries are pretty good.

(32:07):
Yeah.

Speaker (32:09):
Well, and for the bleeding hearts is well, they
were they were probably busy, they probably didn't have enough
people.
Oh shit.
There was like 12 people inthere between the cashiers, the
ones at the drive-thru, and theones working the kitchen.
There was like 12 people, andit still took us 27 minutes to
get ours.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
I'm gonna I'm gonna uh I'm gonna say probably closer
to eight.
Eight to ten.
Unless you counted when I wasoutside.
I just don't want I want to be,you know, I don't want to
exaggerate.
There there were at leasteight, right?

Speaker (32:38):
At least I think there it was at least I I think at
least ten okay with the onesthat were walking from the
kitchen, you know, from back ofthe freezer up with the boxes
and stuff.
I think there was ten.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
Okay.
A lot of people working there.
And I want to say this that Idon't necessarily fault any of
the people who are working therefor any of this.
This was clearly a manage apoorly run fucking restaurant.
Correct.
Because I don't know, it didn'tseem like anybody was just
fucking off.
It just seemed like you had 12people there, and like two of
them had anything to do at anygiven time.

(33:10):
Yeah, at the same time, we'relike, like you said, there was
one guy just like flipping atowel around for like 10 minutes
behind the counter.
Yeah, at the same time, we'resitting there going, what the
fuck?
Like, where's the food?
What the hell?
So God.
Now, just to put this inperspective, um, we got the
five-finger mail, which uh I'mkind of surprised I did because

(33:35):
anyway, the at Chicken Express Iget the four-tender combo.
I think that's what you that'sway too much food.
That's way too much chickentenders, right?

Speaker (33:47):
For you.

Speaker 1 (33:48):
No, well, I mean, I can eat them all.
What I'm saying is that's afour of them chicken tenders.
Yep, that's that's a good old,big old handful of food.

Speaker (33:57):
And a and a big thing of gravy to dunk your your
chicken fingers in.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
Big thing of gravy.
Yep.
Um, and so that's four.
So the box that you get fromChicken Express for the four
combo, I'm gonna say roughly thesame size as the box that we
got from uh Lane's ChickenFingers, Palestine, Texas.
Um and that fucking chickenexpress box is like busting

(34:20):
open.
Yeah, jam-packed, and it's fourtenders, fries, and toast.
Yep.
This was five five things, chicken things.
I don't want to call themtenders, yeah.
Fries, toast, toast that tastedlike nothing, by the way.
And the thing about toast islike even if you don't I don't
know how you don't get it totaste like nothing because toast

(34:42):
you don't even have to doanything to it.
But by toasting it, it takes ona flavor.
This had none.
God so uh highly recommend donot fucking go there.
And if you're tempted to gothere, and I may take I may take

(35:04):
on a project of finding all ofthe chain uh the lanes chicken
fingers locations um andidentifying the nearest chicken
express and maybe launching anapp.
I don't know.
But at least in Palestine,Texas, if you're in if you're up
there and you see that fuckinglanes, just keep driving.

Speaker (35:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (35:22):
It's gonna be the worst thing you've done that
day.
And there's a delicious,wonderful chicken express.

Speaker (35:27):
Well, and one thing, if you want shitty food and you
want it fast, go through theirdrive-thru.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
At lanes, yeah, yeah, because they were yeah.

Speaker (35:34):
I mean, I d I don't think it was fast, but it was
still faster than that.

Speaker 1 (35:38):
Yeah, yeah.
Um well, obviously a lotfaster.
And the thing is that you know, some people might be like, this
is this is just a yarn of twocranky old guys who are hungry
and tired and it took too long, and then oh no, no, no, here's
the thing.
We and we were even talkingabout this earlier.
Like, I was not even thatannoyed really.

(35:59):
I was just baffled.
Right.
Like, yeah, what what how canyou has have this much staffing
and twenty nothing, whatever.
Um, and so we got the food.
Like, I was looking forward, you know, my bar's going down
for quality.
I'm like, I'm getting morehungry, whatever.
I'm like, if it's decent, I'mgood.

(36:20):
And and it was that bad, likedecent.
It's it's looking up at the bardecent.
That's what this shit'sdefinitely.
Yeah, yeah.
Uh Lane's chicken fingers.
Don't go.
I want to go.
No, yeah.
And well, it's I almost forgotabout this too.

(36:43):
Now, I know fast food is not,it's always getting more and
more expensive.
Um, so I didn't expect it to belike 15 bucks for all that
stuff, but it was just over, Ithink it was almost 41.
Yeah, that was that's that'salways like sticker shock these
days, but that's reasonable, unfortunately, these days.
I'm like, that's fine.
Um, and I was just refreshingmy memory earlier.

(37:07):
I pulled up the menu ChickenExpress.
Um, so for what we got, our twomeals, it was like came out to
16 bucks for one of those meals.

Speaker (37:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:17):
Uh four exp four tenders at Chicken Express,
which is way more food, by theway.
Yeah, a lot more 12 bucks.
So no shit.
Yeah, it's even wildly moreexpensive.
Oh yeah.
You know that song, thatsunscreen song that came out.
Like, if I could offer you onepiece of advice, remember that

(37:38):
one?
No, I don't.
I was like, oh well, it waslike this uh song I think.
Well, it was when I was in highschool, so late 90s, whatever.
Uh Boz Lerman.
Do you guys know Boz Lerman?
Mm-hmm.
I do.
There you go.
Yep.
So he recorded the song.
I don't know why why, but itwas like sort of a monologic
song where he's like uh givenlife advice.

(37:59):
But he starts off, I couldoffer you one piece of advice,
wear sunscreen.
And basically, like, you know, the rest of things people,
whatever.
I'm gonna take a little spin onthat, folks.
If I could offer you one pieceof advice, don't go to Lane's
chicken fingers.
No, don't, and wear sunscreen.
Oh goodness, but you know what?

(38:23):
Uh now that you said the thingabout yeah, we should make it a
we should go, we should goeither there or to Lufkin soon,
just just to get some chickenfinger redemption.

Speaker (38:34):
I I think uh yeah, Christine and I have to go to
town.
She needs some more stuff forher garden, so we'll we'll we'll
go into uh Palestine and get achicken express and bring it
back some.

unknown (38:45):
Awesome.

Speaker (38:46):
Yep, it's fantastic.
I'll set it on the tableoutside.

Speaker 1 (38:48):
What does that mean?

Speaker (38:50):
The dogs lead.
Why would you do that?
Just being a smart ass, becauseif you set anything out on the
table outside long enough, thedogs lead it.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
Yeah, that's what it would be.
Yeah, I know.
I don't know why it would dothat to me.
Um well, uh I'm gonna do thisto you.
The show's over.

Speaker (39:09):
Already?

Speaker 1 (39:10):
Yep.
Damn.
I know.
Fueled by Lane's chickenfingers hatred.
Mostly.
Mostly.
And the uh Asian West CoastOpen.
And maybe the Macarena.
Stay tuned.
Yeah.

Speaker (39:25):
To be continued.

Speaker 1 (39:26):
To be continued.
All right, man.
Well, that's it.
Uh, catch y'all later.
Have a good one.
