I'm Katie Smith, your host andguide on this journey of
transformation.
Here, we're all about embracingchange, cultivating confidence
and living life on our own terms.
Each week, we'll dive intotopics that inspire, challenge
(00:22):
and empower you to redefine whatit means to be you.
Into topics that inspire, challenge and empower you to
redefine what it means to be you.
So, if you're ready to rewriteyour story and live life that's
bold, authentic andunapologetically yours, let's
dive in.
Hello, my beautiful friend, welcome back to.
She's Redefined.
Do you hear that my voice ismuch different than the past few
(00:42):
episodes I've had?
Oh man, it's been a journey andI just want to thank everyone
for, like my diehard listenerswho listened to the episode
where my voice was gone and Iwas hysterically crying on it I
just love you so much and Ihaven't heard from anybody, but
I can see the numbers, and thenumbers are I'll be honest with
(01:03):
you are lower than my typical, and that's that sense, because I
even warned you my voicesounded like shit and I was
bawling, and if that makes youuncomfortable, like you do, you
and you step out and that's fine, but still seeing like a decent
amount of listeners on thatreally just warned my heart that
like I've got some ride or diesand it means the absolute world
(01:24):
to me, and so, if that was you,I just want to say I love you
and I appreciate you so much.
Okay, today we're diving into atopic that's actually deeply,
deeply personal to me, and it'sall around embracing life.
Go big or go home energy, likehave you heard that term?
Like you go big or you go home.
Yeah, that's what we're goingto be talking about today.
(01:45):
So let's start with a littlestory.
It's one that's been on myheart and heavy on my heart, but
it also has taught me a lot.
So I'm actually going to talkto you about my horse and the
situation.
If you did not listen to thatepisode, here's a quick recap my
safe place, my therapy partner,my everything, my horse.
His name is Skids.
(02:06):
He needed emergency colicsurgery, and when I say
emergency, I mean it.
It wasn't just a stomach ache,it wasn't a simple fix.
It was the surgery, the big one, the kind that makes you hold
your breath, cross your fingersand pray harder than you have
ever prayed.
What actually ended uphappening was his large colon
(02:27):
was caught between his spleenand his kidney.
That's called an entrapment.
I actually don't know theactual scientific term.
I should have looked that up.
Sorry, but it's like a freakaccident.
It can happen to any horse atany time.
What's really interesting is hesaw three vets that day because
it was just a roller coaster, and the second vet whose
hospital he was at did not knowthat.
So it must have happened on thetrailer ride to the other
(02:49):
hospital.
That was an hour away, but itwas just unfortunate that he
could not dislodge it and theycouldn't do it for him.
And so he had to have emergencysurgery and like, talk about
like the worst moment ever.
But when I came out of thetrauma and when I finally got a
clear head, I wasn't just soemotional.
(03:10):
Do you know what hit me?
It hit me that he couldn't justhave a small thing, a small
stomachache, a small hiccup, right Like he couldn't do that.
Nope, he had to go all in, hehad to go big.
And as I sat there worrying, Irealized that's me too.
My entire life is.
(03:32):
Of course, katie can just dothis, she has to go the upteenth
degree.
So let me give you someexamples of what I mean and I
promise you this is not new forme when it's just go big or go
home.
So when I was 18, I playedsoccer all through high school.
I actually was on varsity, starting as a freshman and my
senior year.
I don't just sprain my ankle mysenior year in the middle of
(03:55):
the game, nope, I spiral, fracture it and I end up having
to have surgery to get sevenscrews and a plate put in my
right ankle.
Yeah, you heard that right.
They're still in there, by theway, and it's a pain.
I don't just break my wrist,nope, I shatter it into a
million pieces and I needed tohave surgery to get eight screws
(04:17):
and a plate in my right wrist.
Those two injuries happened adecade apart and they're both
still in my body.
So, fun fact, I have a total of15 screws and two plates of
hardware in my body of twoinjuries that happened a decade
apart.
So it's like life has this wayof saying to me, like if you're
going to go through a girl,we're going to make it big,
(04:39):
capital letters, bold, underlineand, honestly, it's been the
same exact thing in my business, like I don't just do things
halfway, it's like I'm not in myDNA.
Obviously, I'm either all in orI am not in at all.
I've been like this withrelationships with ex boyfriends
, like I'm like the second, I'mdone, I'm done or I'm all in.
And what I've learned is bigchallenges are not here to break
(05:04):
us.
They're actually here to remindus just how capable we are.
So this is where I want tobring it back to you.
Life will throw some big thingsyour way.
Sometimes it's a broken wrist,sometimes it's an unexpected
business setback, sometimes it'sa literal storm that wipes
everything out that you've built, and I know that feeling can
(05:25):
feel so overwhelming.
It can take everything.
It can make you questioneverything your strength, your
decisions, your dreams.
But here's what I want you tohear from me today Big
challenges demand big energyfrom big people.
Let me say that again Bigchallenges demand big energy
from big people.
(05:45):
You weren't made to play small.
If life is throwing you intothe deep end, it's because you
were built to swim.
I know this might sound intense,so let me take it back to my
horse for a second again, when Iwas sitting in my bed because
he had to have emergency surgery.
In the middle of the night, when I was sitting there waiting
and I was hysterical, I wascrying, my husband's holding me
(06:08):
and I was waiting if he wasgoing to pull through.
In that moment I felt so small,I felt helpless.
But I also knew that no matterwhat, whatever I faced, whatever
came next, I faced it beforeand I could get through it.
I talked a lot about that inthe other episode.
When my business felt like itwas stuck on the runway where I
(06:30):
was waiting for it to take off,I thought maybe this is all
it'll ever be.
Maybe I need to go back tobeing a C-suite executive in
corporate America.
You know my story.
It was the first episode I everhad on this podcast.
But when I decided actually, no, I'm going to go all in, I'm
going to show up with everythingI have and I'm going to bet on
myself until I'm blue in theface, that's when things changed
(06:53):
.
My business didn't just grow,it skyrocketed Last year.
I 7x my business in a matter ofthree months, and the same is
true for you.
I want you to think about thehardest thing you've ever faced.
Maybe it was something personal, professional, maybe a mix,
maybe something in between.
Now ask yourself what did itteach me?
(07:15):
How did it make me strongerwhen I came out on the other
side?
What did I take from thatexperience?
What did I learn?
Because those moments, those gobig or go home moments, that's
what those those are.
They're not here to break you.
They're here to shape you intothe person you were always meant
to be.
The other thing that I'velearned is I constantly have got
to check my ego.
I used to, and like horse gals, horse people, horse folks that,
(07:39):
uh, follow me and listen tothis podcast, I you but I used
to judge people who had horseswho colicked.
I was literally like dang, like, like what's that about?
Can't you like?
Are you giving them enoughwater?
Are you giving them enough food?
And let me tell you the humblepie I ate, now that I have that
scarlet letter, if you will, where my pride and joy horse has
(08:01):
that scar from having colicsurgery, like that was another
thing that I'm like.
It's an evolution to check myego, even as awakened as I am
spiritually.
We all have the ego and it's amatter of dancing with it,
learning to coexist with it andsilence it as much as you can.
It's not killing it off.
(08:21):
I used to believe that and Ieven have talked about that on
this podcast.
But it's not about killing itoff.
It's about learning to workwith it, and so learning to eat
some humble pie and realize thisdoesn't make me any less of a
person.
And the people that judge that, hey, I'm owning that.
I used to be one of those.
They just haven't experiencedtheir thing yet, where their ego
(08:43):
is going to be checked.
The other thing, and the truthis, big results don't come from
small energy.
If you're playing small, you'rehesitating, you're holding back
, you're waiting for the quoteright time, you're missing the
magic of going all in.
This doesn't mean you have tohustle yourself into burnout or
grind or do more or put morehours in or rush, rush, rush,
(09:04):
because you're rushing tobasically death.
Like, why are you trying torush this beautiful life?
It's not about that.
It means showing up withclarity and intention and
deciding I'm all in on myself,I'm betting on myself.
Stop playing small in your life, in your business.
Stop playing small in your life.
This year, I want you to stopasking the what if?
Game.
Don't ask a what if at all.
(09:25):
Don't play the I shoulds Ishould have.
Instead, I want you to turn thewhat if?
If you were to ask it, what ifyou soar?
What if I soar?
What if I can feel like amillion bucks?
What if I can feel joy ineverything that I do this year?
Because the life that you want, the freedom, the ease, the
success, it's not going to waitfor you to tiptoe toward it.
(09:48):
It's waiting for you to claimit.
It's waiting for you to stepinto that big energy, that
all-in energy.
If you're feeling stuck, somethings you can ask yourself are
am I holding back because I'mscared?
Am I showing up as the bigmoney, big success, six-figure
earner would?
Am I waiting for someone elseto give me permission to show up
(10:11):
big, to show up how I want to,to say the things I want to say?
Am I ready to stop hiding mystories from people who are
close to me because I'm afraidof what they're going to think?
Am I playing small because itfeels safer?
My friend, it is time toredefine how you show up for
your life and your business.
So here's my challenge for youTake one step today that feels
(10:34):
huge, massive, big, big, all inenergy, even if it's scary and I
want to hear what that is.
If you could DM me and tell meso that I can cheer for you.
I recently did this story whereI asked people what are they
trying to make this year?
Oh, my gosh, that was probablythe most engagement I've gotten
in a while, and some of y'allhave some massive goals and I
(10:54):
freaking love it because I wantto stretch you, to go even
bigger.
Like, do you remember a fewepisodes back, Gosh?
I can't even remember now.
It's like if you're asking Godto just cover your bills, like
he's like yeah, this is boring,no problem.
Like when you're going to askme some real shit, like so I can
actually deliver on what youwant, that's when you go for it.
We can't keep asking theuniverse and God to help us get
(11:17):
by, skate, by, pay off theminimum payment for my credit
card so that I can like, get byand keep breathing, like and
this is not throwing shade, feelmy heart on this but when are
we going to step into big energyand start co-creating with the
universe and God to be like, canyou, let's deliver?
Like, let me step into that bigenergy by deciding and going
all in and following the flow ofthat energy.
(11:37):
That's when shit happens and itgets fricking exciting.
So, if you're ready to redefineyour success, redefine your
freedom, redefine your life, stay tuned, because big things
are coming and you know I love abig thing okay, because you're
not here to play small girl.
You are not.
You're here to take up space.
