alone in champion warfare.

Narrator (00:41):
The Israelites looked at each other

Israelites (00:43):
Say what?

Narrator (00:46):
There stood the thundering champion of Gath. His
armor, weighing over 125 pounds.
On gripping his mighty sword hisvoice boomed across the valley
of Elah to the Israelite camp.

Goliath (01:00):
If he wins, we will be your slaves. If I win, you and
your nation will be our slaves.
Choose wisely.

Narrator (01:11):
Goliath waited on the front lines. Philistines are
behind him ready for battlecheering and glaring at the
Israelites. The Israelite armydid nothing. They just stood
there. Looking at the seasonedveteran of combat fearing the
nine and a half foot tallmenacing giant. After some time,
Goliath left the frontlines, oneIsraelite turned to the other

Israelites (01:35):
Man, King Saul be crazy to think I'm gonna fight
someone the size of an elephantand probably twice as strong.
Hey, want to grab some grub?
This standoff is gonna take awhile.

Narrator (01:48):
The next day the Philistine, Goliath arose and
returned to the frontlines. Hebegan mocking the living God and
everyone who followed him. Hegave the same challenge to the
Israelites. This continued everyday and evening for 40 days.
Now, within this mighty scaredIsraelite army were three

(02:08):
brothers Eliab, Abinadab andShema. They were the eldest sons
of Jesse.
Hey, so let's click the pausebutton here. The story of David
and Goliath is found in FirstSamuel 17 and the previous
chapter chapter 16. A prophetnamed Samuel goes to Bethlehem
to see Jesse and anoint the kingof Israel after Saul. When Jesse

(02:30):
brought Eliab, His oldest Samuelsought God would choose him
because he looks like a king.
The Bible said, God didn'tchoose any of the eldest sons of
Jesse he chose the youngest. Hechose David. All over the Bible.
David is best known for someonewith the heart of God. Hey,
let's jump back in, press play.

(02:50):
321When the battle came against the
Philistines, David didn't followKing Saul into battle, like his
brothers. One of hisresponsibilities was to take
food to his brothers in thearmy. I wonder what Jesse said
with David to the camp. Maybe heused some Tupperware from his
kitchen. Maybe it was leftoversfrom the night before corn or

(03:11):
wheat. Heat that in themicrowave for a tasty biblical
treat.
David arrived at the camp with afood. The Bible says he left it
with the keeper of supplies.
That must have been a fun job.
In fact, it was they were incharge of making sure people had
rooms food, drink and moreduring a battle. I wonder if he

(03:35):
stocked the toilet paper. SoDavid left the fruit with the
keeper of supplies and went tothe frontlines to see his
brothers. Do you remember theirnames? Yes, Eliab, Abinadab and
Shema. When David got theirGoliath returned to give his
rant mocking the Lord's army andgave his challenge of champion

(03:57):
warfare.
David marched over to somesoldiers and ask them what will
be given to the man who defeatsthis giant Goliath?

Israelites (04:06):
Whoever defeats the Goliath will be set for life.

Narrator (04:10):
David convinced King Saul to let him though he was
young to battle Goliath.
However, David went to battle inan unusual way. Now with a
typical heavy armor and sword, but with a simple slingshot and
five smooth stones. Goliath LookDavid over and instantly hated
him.

Goliath (04:31):
Who do you think I am?
An animal that you would come atme with sticks?

Narrator (04:37):
He just continued to throw insults at David. But
David stood strong withconfidence against Goliath's
verbal attacks.

David (04:46):
I have God on my side, and today he's going to help me
win this battle.

Narrator (04:54):
Immediately the earth shook as Goliath ran towards
David yelling. David had yearsof experience and practice
against beasts protecting hisfather's sheep. He moved swiftly
with his slingshot. Suddenlysilence and then a flood.
Goliath had fallen. TheIsraelites had one that

(05:17):
Philistines fled and David wasthe hero.
God had delivered the Israelitesthat day, as he had done
countless times before and wouldso again, but those are stories
to be told at another time.
