šŸŽ™ļøā ā Podcast like a Mother: Podcast Creation Course

Mick lost her brother to suicide in 1996 and runs a non profit CIC called Suicide Sucks. Suicide Sucks is predominantly a podcast where she interviews guests in her camper van with a cup of tea and the dog to cosy up to. She interviews guests who have made attempts on their life but are still here to tell the tale, showing that hope can prevail. Mick also advocates the importance of mental health and well-being and runs sessions in her local community called Reconnect with Nature. These sessions involve awakening your sensors, practising gratitude, doing a focused activity and finally some grounding. Mick has also developed an online experience in order to make nature more accessible to those, who for various reasons, maybe disability, anxiety or agoraphobia, are unable to leave their house.

Mick's Notes from the Sidelines:

  1. It's interesting how different grief is for everybody. We get scared to show our emotions because it might upset someone else.
  2. It's normal to feel anger with grief. The person left us and missed everything that's happened in our lives.
  3. Emotional pain manifests in the body as physical pain.
  4. Unfortunately, it's not socially acceptable to accept anger in public.
  5. Take the time to do the inner work. Move stuck energy and make space for new. If you've got a blockage, find a way that suits you to heal.
  6. Reconnect with nature. It's free, available, and make sure to use all the senses to immerse yourself.
  7. Getting in nature virtually has the same benefits as being there for real. It's perfect for everyone, even those with disabilities, anxiety, and agoraphobia.
  8. Get Vitamin G - grounding in nature. The feet have over 200,000 nerve endings that communicate with the brain.
  9. To heal grief, there must be talking. It's not only good for your own healing, but it gives permission to others to express their feelings and tell their story.
  10. Grief is a sad club. Find your gang of people who relate because they've been there.
