She is the author of Always Too Much and Never Enough and The VegNews Guide to Being a Fabulous Vegan. She's the host of the long-running, Webby-recognized Our Hen House podcast, The VegNews Podcast, and the TV and radio program, Environmental Connections -- which is part of her work with WXXI, Rochester, NY's PBS and NPR member station. After decades in NYC and Los Angeles, she now lives in Rochester where she enjoys making heartfelt-but-extremely-amateur crafts, moving around her furniture, and laughing with her wife, Moore.Jasmin's Notes from the Sidelines:

  1. Women relate to Jasmin's story because there are a lot of people struggling with a lot of things. The side-by-side truths mean that it can all be so.
  2. Veganism can be an extension of our beliefs about the exploitation of women's bodies, and how we feel about women's rights. It's a demonstration of feminism, because food is no longer about me and my body, it's about all the other bodies.
  3. Our whole adulthood is about healing from our childhood.
  4. Thin privilege is a toxic reality.
  5. People are complex, layered, and constantly changing, just like our definition of success. What are we trying to do with this one, precious life?
  6. Are we living in alignment with our belief systems?
  7. To deal with anxiety/depression, try: medication, going to friends for difficult discussions, take care of and be cared for by your spouse, pets, make aligned choices, don't overindulge in "feeling work."
  8. To deal with conflict, have an internal temper tantrum, then say a supportive mantra to yourself: I'm here, I've got you, I'll sit with you until you feel safe, seen and heard. Comfort your inner child and be your own regulator.
  9. You're exactly where you're supposed to be, and recognize that you've had so much success already.
