Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. This is Send seven World News in seven minutes.
I'm Nile Moore. Today is Tuesday, the twenty eighth of
October twenty twenty five. Today we're starting in the Americas.

(00:21):
In Argentina, President Javier Milaise party has won a landslide
victory in the midterm elections. Milay's Libertad Avanza party won
forty one percent of the vote, giving Malay extra seats
in the Argentinian Senate and the lower House, which will

(00:43):
help him fulfill his policies of spending cuts and deregulation.
United States President Donald Trump, who recently gave Argentina forty
billion dollars to help its economy, congratuate related Malay on
social media, saying quote, He's making us all look good.

(01:08):
In the Caribbean, Hurricane Melissa strengthened into a Category five
storm yesterday and is due to hit Jamaica. Hurricane Melissa
will be the strongest storm to ever hit Jamaica and
is expected to cause extreme flooding, landslides, and damage to buildings.

(01:30):
After hitting Jamaica, the storm is expected to then hit
Cuba before moving towards the Bahamas. Before the storm hit
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness asked Jamaicans to prepare for
the hurricane's arrival.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
With proper preparation, discipline, and care for one another. We
will come through this safely, as we have done so
many times before. And let us remember it is in
times like these that Jamaica's true character shines. Reach out
to your neighbor, check on the elderly, check on persons
with disabilities, and anyone who may need help. That is

(02:08):
who we are, a people who live by the principle
each one help one. While we must prepare for the worst,
let us also pray for the best.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Asia. In Japan, United States President Donald Trump has arrived
for trade talks as part of a five day trip
around Asia. Trump was greeted in Tokyo by the Japanese
Emperor Naruhito yesterday and will meet the new Prime Minister
Senai Takaichi today. India and China have resumed direct flights

(02:48):
between their countries. A flight carrying one hundred and eighty
people from Kolkata landed in the southern Chinese city of
Guangzhou on Monday, the first direct flight between India and
China since twenty twenty. India and China have clashed over
their shared Himalayan border in recent years, but after an

(03:13):
agreement on border patrols was reached in twenty twenty four,
the two countries have been working to improve their relationship.
In August, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited China for
the first time in seven years and met with President
Xijinping Africa. In Sudan, the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group

(03:43):
says it has captured the city of Al fa Shir.
Alpa Shir has been under siege by the Rapid Support
Forces for over a year, leading to reports of famine
amongst the hundreds of thousands of civilians who are trapped there.
The RSF have blocked many of the roads out of

(04:04):
the city, with reports that they have killed civilians who
have tried to escape. Now that the RSF have captured
the main army base in Al Fashir, they effectively control
the city and fears are growing for what the RSF
will do to the remaining civilians. The United Nations Humanitarian

(04:26):
Chief Tom Fletcher has called for an immediate ceasefire in
the city and for the RSF to allow humanitarian aid
to come into the city and civilians to leave. In Cameroon,
Paul Bier has been declared the winner of the country's

(04:46):
presidential election. Bia has been in power in Cameroon since
nineteen eighty two. He is ninety two years old and
the world's oldest head of state. By the next election,
he will be almost one hundred. Cameroon's Constitutional Council said

(05:08):
be a one fifty four percent of the vote in
this election, with his rival Isa Tchiroma Bakari getting thirty
five percent. After the results were announced, Tchiroma claimed that
the election had been rigged, saying quote there was no election,

(05:28):
it was rather a masquerade. In Mali, the government has
announced that schools and universities will be closed for two
weeks because of a fuel shortage. In an attempt to
put pressure on the Malian government, a militant group called

(05:49):
Jomat Nuzrat al islam While Muslimin, which is allied with
Al Qayeda, has been blocking fuel from entering Mali, attacking
fuel tanks that try to reach the country. As a result,
fuel is widely unavailable Europe. In Lithuania, the government says

(06:12):
it will start shooting down balloons coming from neighboring Belarus
that are being used to smuggle cigarettes. The balloons have
repeatedly forced flights to be canceled and airports to be closed.
Prime Minister Ingo Ruguinyena called the balloons a hybrid attack

(06:33):
from Belarus and said that quote we are ready to
take even the most severe actions when our airspace is violated.
Rugynna also announced that Lithuania will close its border with Belarus.
And in Ireland, the government has announced a permanent universal

(06:57):
basic income for artists. Ireland ran a pilot scheme for
three years in which two thousand artists and creatives were
paid three hundred and twenty five euros or three hundred
and eighty dollars every week. The pilot was a success,

(07:17):
with participants saying that they were able to keep creating
art and developing their careers because they could afford daily
necessities like rent. Now the program is being made permanent
and from twenty twenty six it will be available to
people working in everything from theater to music and dance.

(07:41):
