Speaker 1 (00:01):
Good morning. This is Send seven World News in seven minutes.
I'm Stephen Devin gen Z. Today is Wednesday, the twenty
ninth of October twenty twenty five. Starting in the Americas today.

(00:21):
In the Caribbean, Hurricane Melissa caused damage to buildings and
caused flooding yesterday and this is expected to continue today. Yesterday,
the center of Hurricane Melissa was over Jamaica, where at
least three deaths have been recorded. Today, Melissa will pass

(00:42):
over Cuba, with the second largest city, Santiago de Cuba,
expected to be badly hit. Almost one hundred and seventy
thousand people have been evacuated from Santiago de Cuba, according
to Cuban officials. In Brazil, authorities have said that a
police raid on gangs in favelas has killed at least

(01:06):
sixty four people, including four police officers. Two five hundred
police and special forces were used in the raid on
favelas near Rio de Janeiro's international airport. There were also
reports of gangs using drones to attack police. In the
United States, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said that the

(01:30):
US has killed fourteen people in strikes on drug trafficking
boats in the Pacific Ocean. Also in the US, President
Donald Trump's family gained more than eight hundred million dollars
from sales of cryptocurrency in the first half of this year,

(01:50):
according to an investigation by Reuters talking to Reuter's Richard Painter,
the chief ethics lawyer for former President George W. Bush,
which has described the Trump family profiting from a crypto
business as legal but unethical. Asia in Malaysia, at the

(02:13):
Asian Meeting, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guteres has said
that the world has failed to limit climate change to
one point five degrees, but that the world must make
the rise as small as possible. Guteres also spoke about
the benefits of countries adapting to renewable energy.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Now, So, first of all, we failed to keep the
temperature always below one point five. We are going to overshoot.
Let's make that overshoot as small as possible in time
and as small as possible in the level of temperature.

(02:56):
Renewables are cheaper, what is it to install jobs? And
it's time to recognize that the fossil ful age is
coming to an end and to accelerate that transition.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
Lebanon's army has run out of explosives because it has
blown up so many Hesbola weapons over the last year,
according to Reuters, as part of a ceasefire deal with
Israel last year, Lebanon agreed to disarm Hezbola, which was
often called the world's most powerful non state armed group

(03:35):
before being massively degraded by Israel. Since twenty twenty three,
in India, a man has been arrested for inappropriately touching
two of Australia's women's cricket team. The players said that
they were going to a cafe near their hotel when
the man touched them. Eight countries are competing in India

(03:58):
for the Women's Cricket World Cup Europe. The Netherlands has
a parliamentary election today. The Netherlands was not due an
election until twenty twenty eight. However, a snap election was
called after the previous coalition government collapsed. Most opinion polls

(04:21):
show that this election will create a highly divided parliament,
similar to the current one, in which multiple parties are
needed to form a coalition government. In Georgia, the family
of a pregnant British teenager arrested for drug smuggling say
that they have paid one hundred and eighty seven thousand

(04:43):
dollars to release her. Bella Kully, who is nineteen, was
arrested after reportedly flying from Thailand to Georgia with twelve
kilograms of marijuana and two kilograms of hashish Africa in Kenya,
a small tourist plane crashed yesterday, killing all eleven people

(05:07):
on board, eight from Hungary, too from Germany and the
Kenyan pilot in Coude de Vois. President Alasan Udara has
won a fourth term as president, according to the Electoral Commission.
The commission said that Utarah won ninety one percent of votes,

(05:28):
slightly less than in the previous election. Utarah said that
he was able to run for more than two terms
as president because of a new constitution resetting terms, effectively
making this only his second term. Tanzania has a general
election today, the first since Samya Suluhu automatically became president

(05:53):
in twenty twenty one, as she was the vice president
of John Magafuli, who died. Amnesty International has said that
the elections appear to be just for show as there
is not real competition. After the two biggest opposition parties
were banned and going to art galleries improves your health.

(06:17):
According to a new study, researchers from King's College, London
measured the physiological responses of people viewing original artworks of
some of the world's most famous artists, and they found
that viewing the art made positive influences on people's immune system,

(06:38):
hormone system and nervous system. The results suggest that, as
well as boosting your immune system, going to art galleries
could also help you to relieve stress and reduce the
risk of heart disease. A big thank you to Stephanie
in France, Senes in TURKEYA and Nat in Italy for
