Ski Rex Media Podcast

Part of skirexmedia.com, the Ski Rex Media Podcast is going to be reporting on and/or giving commentary on the ski industry, ski lifestyle, ski competition, and just about anything that could be associated with the sport of skiing. This includes snowboarding, nordic skiing, skijoring, and winter sports as a whole. During the summer, I'll also be talking about summertime mountain, outdoors, and action sports, as well. For now, it will be mostly one person, me, but I hope to either add other contributors, do interviews, or both. Thank you for checking this out and like I say...it doesn't matter if you're a ski bum, an elitist skier, or just a Jerry. Ski Rex Media has you covered.

As I was deciding what I would talk about this week, I came across a story local to Vermont, which is where I am and grew up. Though this may be a local news story, eventually similar laws and regulations will start popping up in other states in the U.S. and other countries. In fact, these regulations have already shown up in more than just the ski industry. For this week, I'm talking about legislation that will ban the use of ...

After an unplanned week off, the Ski Rex Media Podcast is back with a brand new episode. Oh, and I'm not coming back alone. This time I brought friends! This week, three of Ski Rex Media's biggest fans join me to talk about the past season. We go from travel restrictions to tailgating, to beers, to music...the episode had many topics. Join us to hear where we go, where we went, and to just have a good time. Thanks for liste...

Now that I look at that title, it seems kind of vague. However, that might draw folks into the description for the specifics. If it worked, then welcome to the latest episode of the Ski Rex Media Podcast. This week's topic was spurred by the announcement of the new 6-pack bubble chair going in at Waterville Valley, NH. There are those who would say that the continued use of these chairs means that skiers & riders are gettin...

Sometimes one has a topic all ready to go for their next podcast but then comes across something they feel might be better, which is what happened with this week's episode. Yes, I had something ready to go, but then I came across an article talking about ski areas actually doing well during the winter of COVID-19, though food & beverage sales may have taken a hit. So, that's what I'm talking about this week, ski mou...

I'm sure that throwing the word "naked" into the title seems a little like clickbait, which is fine with me, but that's what I'm really talking about this week. A man got his pass pulled for doing a naked run, so I talk about that real quick and talk about the naked skiing and snowboarding phenomenon in general. Since I am talking about nudity, it might be best to listen to this one without the kids, at least at...

This week I'm going a little talk about closing time, as in, the time that comes when the ski mountains start to close up after the winter and spring. I'm not going to be talking about who all is closing and the exact closing dates of mountains from across the country. Those are things that anyone can find out just by checking their social media feed or with a quick search of the internet. No, I'm talking about what it ...

I wasn't keeping it a secret that I went with the Indy Pass for this winter and spring ski season. I thought it was a great deal when I picked it up last fall. But, do I still think it was a good deal and will I be buying one for next winter? In this episode, I answer both of those questions, as well as tossing out a couple of simple, general cheap skiing tips. We'll get more into cheap skiing and snowboarding during the su...

I'm doubling down with new episodes this week, this one being the second one posted today. It came to my attention that Mount Snow, my 1st home mountain, was in the snow sports news from the weekend. When I saw it was about ski rage I decided I had to do an episode on ski rage. This one also involves some punk kids. Am I condoning what the attacker did? Goodness, no. But, there are a few angles here and I use this episode to te...

So, I was able to ski with real people the other day. True, there were always people there when I was skiing this season, but they weren't part of my group or anyone that I knew. With the season of COVID-19 coming to a close, it's awesome to get back into the social side of snow sports and I'm telling you all about it on the first of two brand new podcast episodes this week. Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoyed i...

Has anyone else noticed the number of people that are falling off chairlifts recently? Is it just me? For those that have noticed, have you noticed that it has been kids? While I hope there isn't a true increase in the number of folks that are falling of chairlifts, I am going to talk about it for this episode. Let's see what I think. Thank you for listening and I really hope that you enjoyed it.

Springtime is just around the corner. With that in mind, I think it's a good time to check in with you all about how the current season is going and what it might look like going forward. At least, that was my intention when I started recording this one. Sure, it still comes to that point, but there are a few twists and turns before that. Check it out, I hope you enjoy it and thank you for listening.

Today we take another look at the Indy Pass, mostly due to the announcement they made yesterday, Feb. 23rd. Like a straight juggernaut, Indy Pass keeps moving forward with what seems to be unstoppable momentum. For the second, or possibly third time this season, Indy Pass has announced another two ski mountains joining their ranks. This time they add two more New England hills to a list that is just about 60 mountains strong. For t...

I'm fairly certain you've also noticed everything that I talk about in this week's episode. It's likely you have seen all the posts of videos and photos showing long lines at the mountains, whether those lines are at the lifts, ticket booths, or parking lots. You've also heard talk about mountains being packed similar to the holidays and weekends of the pre-pandemic seasons. It's also likely you've seen ...

Check out that title. Isn't that an odd couple of topics to throw together? Right before I recorded this episode I was outside shoveling during a snowstorm, so that's where that part of the episode came from. The pole straps, however, came from a thought I had while out skiing this past Friday. In this episode, I  talk a little bit about why & when some people use pole straps and some people don't, as well as shovel...

One would think that an episode from an outlet like Ski Rex Media would never be titled in a way to make it seem as if a powder day isn't worth it. But, maybe there is a time when getting out in the powder just isn't worth it. In this episode, I talk about a time where it just might not be worth getting that fresh POW, as well as a story of my own that can back up that idea. Thank you for listening and I hope that you enjoy...

Whether one is looking at mainstream media or social media, one can find Vail Inc. taking a beating this year. Honestly, I'm not sure I've seen a ski corporation take a beating in the public like this before. Now, there's news that Epic Pass refunds are being denied, right here in the east, even.  Are they right to deny them? Well, that's what I'm talking about on this week's episode. Thank you for listening...

This episode is a direct follow-up to Episode 20, not just in chronological order, but it follows the same theme. Once again I'm talking about COVID-19 and its effects on the current skiing/snowboarding season, but not just out of worry or negativity. Sure, I talk about a little bit of bad news that came up in the news recently, but some good news, as well. I talk about Schweitzer Mountain canceling night skiing and riding due ...

There are those out there that say I worry too much about things. That might be true, but it doesn't change the fact that I am worried. I am worried that we might lose this season the same way we lost the last one. Is that a justified worry or do I actually worry too much? Well, let's explore that in this episode. I talk about why I am worried about the season shutting down, why I think it could, and what I think could be o...

The year is finally at an end, which pretty much the entire population of the planet has been looking forward to. Some will celebrate as they always do by getting faced, though they might be doing it alone this year due to various restrictions. Others make resolutions for the coming year, which is what I'm talking about this week, as New Year's Eve is the day after the episode's debut. So, let's talk about New Year&...

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to you all! I'd like to use this episode to wish you well and talk a little about skiing, snowboarding, and snow sports when it comes to the end of the year holidays. I just wanted to remind you all what it looks like, remind you all to not get caught up in the crazy and to remember that this is the time for caring, giving, and just generally not being a dick. Thanks for listening, I hope yo...
