"It Tolls for Thee"

I was privileged to participate in a lunch with a few high school friends several weeks ago. 

It was also an honor to have one of the parents of my friends in attendance. I hesitate to use any names because I have not received permission to use his name at the time of writing this.

If the intent of the OUR SPIRIT...LIVES campaign could be bottled-what I experienced during our brief encounter is the EXACT PREMISE of what would be captured.

I learned so much in such a little time. I learned that the gentleman with whom I was engaged in conversation attended the same high school as my uncle, JW, and that he knew several of my other uncles and relatives. 

More importantly, I obtained valuable wisdom of what was occurring in my hometown of Jackson, Mississippi during the Civil Rights Movement.

It would be impossible to convey the level and the value of what was conveyed to me in such a small space.

However, I can convey this...

"It Tolls for Thee" 

is demonstrative of what was conveyed. My conversation and the tenor of this piece is exactly what is needed to address the RACIST diatribe that ws spewed by Senator Eric Schmitt(R) of Missouri.

No, this piece WAS NOT written in response to his hateful utterances. In fact, I was inspired to write it before having any knowledge of what he conveyed. 

However, make NO MISTAKE-there are NO COINCIDENCES with the HOLY SPIRIT. 

My conversation with one of my esteemed elders and the inspiration to write this piece totally align with what is supremely necessary within our community. Discourse with our elders, the conveyance of OUR HISTORY, and more importantly, a sensitive ear to hear, listen, and follow the unction inspired by the Spirit are not only valued but imperative at this specific juncture in time.

From what I learned...those who seek to turn back the hands of time should be very careful that they are not poking a bear that is totally unreceptive to revisiting and or experiencing times previously cast upon them. 

Additionally, those of US who know and seek to further learn of our history are neither receptive nor willing to suffer the experiences of our ancestors.

So while seeking to ring that bell of hatred and incite the like-minded, make sure you are HIGHLY CONFIDENT for whom it truly tolls.
