The sweltering heat of summer has arrived in Salt Lake City, but so have a wealth of exciting events to pull us outdoors and into community. This update brings you the perfect blend of local happenings and profound conversations that define the Small Lake City podcast experience.

We kick things off with a nod to our recent conversation with Chad Hopkins, the visionary behind Hopkins Brewing Company in Sugar House. More than just a brewery founder, Chad has become the unofficial ringleader for small businesses in the area, creating a gathering space that reflects his deep roots and passion for the neighborhood he grew up in.

The coming days are packed with opportunities to connect: Global Running Day at Sugar House Park offers the chance to find your running tribe through a creative bingo-style community mixer. Whether you're new to Utah's iconic trail running scene or a seasoned enthusiast, this Wednesday evening event promises community connections and potential prizes. For the shoppers among us, Lift Threads warehouse sale brings discounts up to 70% on athletic wear, while the Dia de los Churros celebration at Lehigh Harmons delivers free churros, prizes, and unexpected delights like an "itty bitty petting zoo." The weekend culminates with Utah Pride Festival downtown—a $20 per day celebration of authenticity and community.

But perhaps the most surprising element of this update is the preview of our conversation with Jacob Badsgaard, founder of Disruptive Advertising. What began as a marketing discussion transformed into a profound exploration of mental health, spirituality, and authentic living. Jacob's journey from the brink of divorce to self-discovery offers powerful insights about shedding the person others expect you to be in favor of your true self. His forthcoming book "Authenticity Wins" captures these hard-won lessons.

Ready for running, shopping, churros, pride celebrations, and conversations that might just change your perspective? Join us this week throughout Salt Lake City as summer's energy brings us together in celebration and growth.

be just about perfect andthankfully there's a lot going

(00:22):
on that will take us outside andthankfully there's a lot going
on that will take us outside.
Before I jump into the eventscoming up, I want to remind you
all of the most recent episodewith Chad Hopkins, founder of
Hopkins Brewing Company in SugarHouse.
Chad is the man.
He has truly built this amazingbrewery, created some amazing
beer and created this place, sugar House.

(00:43):
It really has become the centerof so much, not only
congregating and a place to gettogether with people, but he is
almost seen as the ringleader ofso many of the small businesses
around the area.
He was born and raised rightaround the corner in Sugar House
and has a huge passion for thearea.
Great episode with him andlearning a little bit more about
him and why he decided to dothis.

(01:05):
But as far as upcoming events, one tomorrow that I will be at
and I'm excited for is GlobalRunning Day Celebration at Sugar
House Park, hosted by Salt LakeRunning Company.
So it's going to start at 5.30and go all the way through 7.30.
And they have a pretty coolconcept where you show up, you
get a bingo card and you fill itout by doing different things,

(01:27):
like talking to groups or doinga shoe demo Lots of different
things to participate and reallyget the most out of it.
But the best part is you turnthat in, you get a ticket for a
raffle and you can win some freestuff.
There's going to be a ton ofrunning clubs there for you to
meet a lot of people, figure outwhat vibe is the best for you,
almost like your own runningsorting hat of sorts, I would

(01:48):
say.
Running, and particularly trailrunning, are some of the iconic
Utah hobbies.
So, whether you're just gettinginto it or an enthusiast, come
check it out, come make somefriends, come find some
communities that have alreadybeen built and see if there's
something that makes sense foryou.
So again, that will be tomorrow, wednesday, june 4th,
Sugarhouse Park, starting at5.30, going till about 7.30 that

(02:09):
night.
Make sure to wear some runningclothes because you get to try
out some shoes and some otherthings there as well.
So be ready to move Also thisFriday and Saturday.
So, past guest on the podcast, johnny Johnson, he is having a
warehouse sale for his company, lift Threads, this Friday from 1
to 5 and Saturday from 9 to 1down in Bluffdale where you can

(02:31):
get up to 70% off all of hisamazing athletic wear,
athleisure wear.
If you're looking for newclothes golf clothes, running
clothes, gym clothes, lazyclothes for around the house,
there's going to be somethingthere.
I'm really excited.
I'm going to be going on Fridayto help support him and I just
need some new clothes in general.
And the best part is, whileyou're down there on Friday, you

(02:52):
can keep going a little furtherto go to the Lehigh Harmons
where we are celebrating the Diade los Churros with San Diablo
artisan churros.
So come, get a free churro, win, win some free prizes.
There's going to be somesurprises pinatas, photo booths,
ice baths, an itty bittypetting zoo.
I'm curious what that entails,so come down and join me in one

(03:15):
of my favorite sweet treats ofall time.
And then, lastly, on the eventside of things, this weekend is
Utah Pride.
So down at the city countybuilding, which is in between
4th and 5th South, in betweenState Street and 3rd East, we'll
be celebrating Pride.
I'm excited for it.
This year I have so manyfriends and family that are
members of the LGBTQ community.

(03:37):
I'm excited to celebrate themand support them in all that
they do and being theirauthentic selves.
So you can go to utahpridecomfor tickets.
It's about $20 per day, or ifyou buy both days, it's 35 bucks
Pretty inexpensive, so funevery year, so many people there
.
So make sure to come join meand come hang out.
But lastly, I want to introducethis week's guest.

(03:58):
Now I'll be completely honest.
When I set up to record withthis week's guest, I kind of
thought I knew what I wasgetting myself into.
His name is Jacob Badsgaard.
He founded a company calledDisruptive Advertising, which is
a marketing agency geared tohelp companies get more
awareness and attraction intheir brands.
But when we sat down, I got somuch more than I thought I was

(04:21):
going to get.
So we talked a lot about mentalhealth, a lot about spirituality
, talk a lot about mental health, a lot about spirituality, a
lot about being more present andauthentic in your life and not
being the person that you feellike everybody else needs you to
be, but being the person thatyou know that you need to be.
And after going through lifealmost on cruise control,
finding himself with his wife atthe precipice of divorce, he

(04:44):
looked himself in the mirror andsaid that he needed to change
and be a better version ofhimself, moving forward.
Now he's taken those principles, created online courses and is
now writing his book, which isgoing to be coming out later
this year, called AuthenticityWins.
Really great conversation.
We agree on so many things, read a lot of the same similar
books and it's actually one ofmy favorite conversations I've

(05:06):
had in recent memory, especiallyaround some of the topics that
are near and dear to my heart.
So that will be releasing thisThursday wherever you prefer to
listen and or watch on YouTube.
But besides that, come hang outon Wednesday at Sugarhouse Park
with me and I'll see you thisweekend down in Bluffdale,
lehigh and downtown in Salt Lake.
But yeah, enjoy a great weekand I will see you soon.
