And, Ippo, this whole time, he sees thisgirl from afar, who's like working at
a bakery, who he's like really into.
And then, after the match, because therewas a lot of girls that liked Miata,
and he was kinda popular, so then he'sOh, hey, there's no reason for you to
be sad that Miata lost that other guy,he's a bum you know what I'm saying?

He's like a really bad guy, and shegoes, Don't talk shit about my brother.
He's oh, I'm gonna fight you, brother.

Yeah, it's The fight between Miyadaand Mashiba, how would you describe it?
I would describe it as Really great,but also at the end, Mashiba is just

And he sets on Miata's foot and breaksit and the great thing about Miata is

He does get scared of Miata at the end.
Miata fails to Cuz he'sgot that green in his eyes.

Cuz Miata almost wins!
Miata almost wins, and then Mishima it'sreally plot armor how he doesn't win.

And he gets he gets, obviously, MiataBecause, you're thinking watching

let's see the interesting way Miyadawins, and then we'll get to see Him
and his best friend fight in the end.
But he doesn't win.

it's actually pretty good writing.

And then, boom, the villain takes outyour best friend, and now you can't

And Miata's dad didn't lethim in the room after he lost.

So he hasn't even Because Ippo runsto him and was like, Hey, he just lost

So and then the thing is so theytrain for their match, right?
And the thing is also even thoughthis guy's evil this Mashiba He

also has a super sad backstory.
He's got the crazy.
So anyway, the what happensis Ippo breaks his hand.
They're we'll say the backstory first.

So the backstory for the Mashiba,for Mashiba, is really sad.
So first of all, he's the olderbrother of the girl that Ippo's

in love with, like his crush.
His, their parents, they're dead, right?
Yeah, so their parents died.
And no one would help them, so So nowMashiba Has to box to take care of them.
He doesn't really want to box?

But every job he goes for, he keepsgetting laid off because he's so

bitter and jaded about the factthat nobody wants to help them.
It's also because he has a record.
So he went to juvie whenhis parents were alive.
And then he got out, but he servedhis time as a criminal, right?
But people had that stereotype abouthim that he's a criminal because of
his previous record that every jobhe gets, they fire him afterwards.
Now, I don't know howthey run things in Japan.

I am not Japanese.
But here in America, weusually run background checks
first before we hire them.
First, before, but andhis sister is super nice.
Yeah, she cooks for him, she doeseverything for him, and he's like people
keep forgetting about us, they keeppushing us aside, and I keep getting
fired because they view me as a criminal,and then they basically bully me at
my work, they keep bullying me it'scrazy, cause he's like the evil guy,

his sister's like you don't have tobox She feels really bad cuz he's oh,
you don't have to box I don't wantyou to get hurt on my aspect and I can
totally see this as me being an olderbrother I totally relate to him when
he's look, it doesn't matter if I gethurt I need to take care of you, right?
And that means that I got a boxand get beat up all the time and da
Then, I gotta do what I gotta do,and I promise you, once I'm champion,

But but then there's the saying,it's What's the point of gaining the

You think about Apollo and Clubber Lang,and you think about with really, this

is how boxing goes oh, both of themare, one's the bad guy in, in film and
television here in America, one's thebad guy and then the hero boxer has
to defeat them, and this one there'salmost no one's a bad guy, it's just
about life, this is just two people, Andsomeone gotta go down, which is crazy.
Somebody's gotta go.
So Ippo comes into this match, right?

Because the training that he's beendoing, also, before this match, his
coach tells him, and he's oh, becausebefore every fight he has to learn a new
skill that's almost impossible to learn.
That he does every time.

Suspension of disbelief.
They get so much storyin these 20 minutes.

It's freaking crazy.
But this is where it's different, right?
The part where it's different isbasically Ippos are like, Okay this is
his hitman style and this is what he does.
What new skill are we going to learn?

makes him bleed but Ippo's so But wealso have to understand that Ippo got

very severely handicapped that beforethat, the bell rung before he could hit.
The what's his name?
Mashiba.
Before he could hitMashiba in his stomach.
And get the dub.
And get the win.
That completely And they rang the bell.

And Mashiba now knows his whole strategy.
And, what's crazy about this isthat the bell is often used as right
as soon as someone's gonna win,that's when the bell always rings.
It's got just good writing.
And then especially, and thenironically, it ends up working out
in his favor because Then, Mashiba,even though he's throwing his elbow
to block those punches, he can't usehis, he can't lift up his arm anymore.

Cause it destroys his elbow.
Cause even those punches are so hard.
But what's crazy is that, Mashibais such a G, that he's I'm gonna
just fight you with one hand.
He loses, cause he'sfighting with one hand.
This man got him clinching.

And the thing with Sendoh is Insert sadbackstory, Sendo's parents are dead, he

lives with his grandmother, and he getsinto fights to prove how strong he can be,
so that way he's I have to be strongestso I can be the strongest for my grandma.
And so then, because he'sthe all western hero, right?
He's like a hometown hero over there,and he's no longer a gangster like
person, he's like a hometown hero,and the and these little kids are
like, Hey, you should like, buy us aPlayStation remember you said you'd
(24:46):
buy it for us when you became champion?
When you became Western champion, andhe's Oh, I'll do it when I win the All
Japan champion and they're like he'slike they're like elementary school
kids They're like fascinated with himcuz he's like the hometown hero and
they right, you know So everyone buthe's I know I don't want to let my
hometown down But I just love to fight!
People think I'm fighting to save the day!

But really, I just like to fight!
So he hands the kids, he's I gotsomething better than the video
game I said I was gonna get you all.

And the coach is like I'm not gonna lie,Sendo's one of my favorite characters.

And the coach is Hey why don'tyou go do some road work since You
can't your fist is all messed upand Sendoh's that's a great idea.
Let's go do some road work.
We gotta do it together, hurry.
And he's can you keep up with me?
And Ippo's what are you doing here, man?
What is your issue?
But then because Sendoh wants tofight so bad, Ippo's you know what?
I actually really wantto beat this guy's ass.
(26:07):
So then that's when, that's why hegoes and begs his coach like, Okay,
we gotta find someone to help me outwith this so I can beat up this guy.
Yeah, his mom, he goes to hismom and he's Listen, is there
anybody that we work with?
Don't you have a doctor orsomething that you work with?
Can you please set me up an appointment?
And then that's what happens.
And then the doctor comes.
That's the judo champion.
(26:27):
Yeah, she comes out of nowhere.
I don't know how she knowswhere they're training.
I think, no, not the, his coach calls her.
Oh, yes.
And then, so they're doing the crab walks.
They're doing crab walks to strengthen.
She then puts him on thisregiment to strengthen his hand.
His shoulder.
And his, because he's look, you've beenthrowing all these punches so hard, but
(26:49):
your shoulder muscles are really weak.
You're putting too much force intojust your hand and forearm, and
that's why you broke your hand.
You punched so hard.
That you broke your hand, butnot That your body can't handle
how tremendous your power is.
I'm just like, what?
That's, what?
That's not, but that's So then you needto build up your shoulder Like, you
(27:11):
can't even throw it that hard if yourshoulder muscle's that messed up, but,
that's the thing like in baseball, right?
You cannot, I think it's like youcan't throw faster than like 108 miles
an hour or 110 miles an hour becausethe law of physics literally won't
allow your arm to throw that fast.
I have heard that before, but theamount of times that scientists

have said, The laws of physicssay, and then humans do it anyway.
That was like the that was like thething with back in The four minute mile?
Yeah.
They said it was physicallyagainst the laws of physics for
anyone to run a four minute mile.
Then some guy does it back inlike the early 1900s, and since
then tons of people do it.
It's very common to, it's hardto do, but it's still people

in my high school did that.

When I was in high school and runninglike that I was a part of the track
team it was like 425 so I'm and I'mnot a professional track athlete.
