Speaker 1 (00:06):
Good morning and
welcome to Starting Right with
Danny Mac.
I'm going to be here everyMonday to Friday to help you get
a great five-minute start toyour day.
So grab your cup of coffee, sitback, relax and let me help you
start your day right.
Okay, everybody, I'm going tostart today by giving you a pop
quiz.
(00:27):
Besides Moses, how many peoplewere able to stop water from
flowing across a river so thatthe river could be crossed on
dry land?
Do you know how many?
I'll give you a hint it was theJordan River that stopped
flowing.
Have you got it figured out?
Well, here, let me tell you.
(00:52):
There were three others.
One of them was Joshua, as thepeople were entering into the
promised land, and I want tocome back to him in just a
moment, but just for the fun ofit.
The other two were both Elijahand Elisha.
When they got to the river, godused them to stop the river and
they crossed the dry land aswell.
But let's go back to Joshuajust for a moment, because in
Joshua's instance, it was quitea remarkable thing.
The people were now able toenter into the promised land.
(01:15):
So when they got to the side ofthe river, god told Joshua that
the priests were to pick up theArk of the Covenant, walk to
the river that was flowing athigh season and step into the
water.
As they stepped into the water, the water would stop flowing.
The priests did exactly as theywere told.
(01:36):
And then the priests with theArk of the Covenant went to the
center of the river and stoodthere while all of Israel
crossed the river on dry groundinto the promised land.
And then God told Joshua to dosomething that we didn't see
anywhere else.
In the book of Joshua, chapter 4, it says and it came to pass
when all the people hadcompletely crossed over the
(01:59):
Jordan that the Lord spoke toJoshua saying Take for
yourselves twelve men from thepeople, one man from every tribe
, and command them saying Takefor yourselves twelve stones
from here, out of the midst ofthe Jordan, from the place where
the priests' feet stood firm.
You shall carry them over withyou and leave them in the
(02:20):
lodging place where you lodgedtonight.
So the men went in, they tookthese large stones and carried
them out of the river and piledthem up on the bank, and then
the river started flowing again.
But God said this about thosestones, and this is what I want
to talk about in chapter 4,verse 6.
This is to be a sign among you.
When your children ask in timeto come saying what do these
(02:42):
stones mean to you, then youshall answer them that the
waters of the Jordan were cutoff before the ark of the
covenant of the Lord when itcrossed over the Jordan.
The waters of the Jordan werecut off and these stones shall
be a memorial to the children ofIsrael forever.
God was telling Joshua and thepeople of Israel that he wanted
(03:03):
them to remember specificallyremember what he had done at
that place for them, for therest of their lives and for
generations to come.
Those stones would signify thefaithfulness of God.
Each of us have marker stones inour lives, those times when God
has done something specific andsomething powerful for us and
(03:26):
in us.
We know what they are.
They're the times where God hasmet a need where there is
absolutely no way it couldhappen other than by him.
There are times where God hashealed us and given us direction
.
There's times where God hasrevealed himself to us in a
powerful, powerful way.
There's times when we've beenblessed by somebody else and it
(03:47):
just doesn't make sense how itcame together so well.
There's times where God hasgiven us compassion and peace in
the middle of very difficultsituations.
Those are all marker stones.
Those are all times that definewho we are and define our
relationship with God, and whatwe do with those marker stones
(04:07):
is very important.
We don't have a pile of stonesthat we've built like the people
of Israel did, but we do haveour times with our family where
we should be talking to themabout who God is and what God
has done for us.
And, as with most things thatGod gives us, they're never just
for us.
They are for us to share andtell other people about,
(04:28):
especially our children.
We need to teach them what itmeans to have a faithful God
working in our lives.
When God has blessed you, whenGod has helped you find answers
to problems that you didn't knowthe answer for, when God has
touched you and healed you, whenGod has given you direction,
when God has given you hope, when things have turned around
miraculously in your lives, those are piles of memorial
(04:51):
stones.
Those are markers that are notthere just for us, but are there
for us to share.
What are your markers today?
What are the things in yourlife that are important, that
God has done for you.
Do you know what they are?
Can you hang on to them?
Are you telling your family andyour children about them?
Because that's the importantthing.
Your children will notnecessarily know about those
(05:14):
markers in your life unless youtell them, and that's what we
need to do.
I hope you all have a great day.
Everyone Encourage one another, love one another and we will
talk again tomorrow.
Thank you for listening todayand I invite you to join me
