SPEAKER_00 (00:01):
Whether you're
chasing a dream, rebuilding one,
or just trying to make itthrough the week, you've got a
seat at this table.
I'm Harley, and this is TalkinMischief.
What up, everybody?
We're back with another episodeof Talkin' Mischief.
And today we're with BeccaBowen.
Hello, hello.
Tell them what we've been doingall day.
Oh my goodness.
This girl's got me runningaround every which way of
(00:24):
Nashville.
I'm just kidding.
No, I do.
It's been rough.
Like, it's been rough.
We were running down Broadway, back and forth to Music City
Center.
Yeah, but it's been a lot offun.
It's yeah.
So, fun fact, today's actuallymy one year as a CMA member, so
it's like a full circle moment.
So, thank you for that.
I really appreciate it.
I made the whole day withoutcrying.
So that's I'm so glad you came.
(00:44):
I really am.
It's been really fun.
I'm glad I got to.
Like it's I don't know what Iwas expecting for this to be my
first CMA, but CMA fest, but I'mlike, we're here, we're vibing.
It's just a lot of media, a lotof interviews.
Yeah.
That that's an understatement.
And next year we're gonnamanifest and we're gonna have
talking mischief here.
We're just gonna manifest it.
She's gonna have her own placein the media room up there doing
(01:05):
an interview.
Hopefully.
Fingers crossed.
So whoever watches this, hopefully, you know, like we're
just we're talking about it now.
So tell us a little aboutyourself.
Well, uh, my hometown, I grew upin West Columbia, South
Carolina.
I started singing when I wasfive years old in church.
Um uh and you know, I'll justsay then God just opened up the
(01:26):
doors for me and I knew when Ijust as a child, I knew that
this is what I wanted to do.
Like God gave me this gift and Iwanted to share it.
I really did.
And uh I've been so fortunateand so blessed that I get to do
what I love.
So and I'm glad you're here forthe ride.
I'm glad.
So fun fact, Becca and I metlast in December at a CMA like
(01:49):
Christmas party, which and thenhere we are, a CMA fest.
So it's kind of like, all right, here we are.
And she was like, she didn't, Iwasn't her photographer, I was
the event photographer, and Iwas like, you know what?
She's good.
I'm gonna take some photos.
Maybe we can connect.
And then lo and behold, here weare, like six months later.
So, you got any music comingout?
I do.
June the 12th, I have a greatsummer song coming out, and it's
(02:09):
like upbeat, it's rowdy, it'scalled Raise a Little Hell.
It's uh kind of about, you know, growing up in South Carolina on
the weekends, we'd go out, havefun, bonfires, four-wheelers,
tailgates, you know, jack ducktrucks.
Give me some Gretchen Wilson.
The cool yeah, and that'sexactly what this is.
You know, I grew up listening toGretchen Wilson and Toby Keith
(02:30):
and all those.
Oh, yeah.
And I was like, I want a songlike that.
So I wrote it.
unknown (02:33):
Okay, there you go.
SPEAKER_00 (02:35):
And I wrote this one
with my uh producer, Sal
Oliveri, who is just incredibleas well.
So it was neat to have him writethis with me and produce it.
So I love that for you.
It's gonna be a lot of fun.
I can't wait for you to hear it.
You hadn't heard you.
I know, I'm excited.
This one's gonna be so much funto perform.
And the first time that we everperform this song, you are gonna
be at the show.
(02:55):
So we're gonna perform thisshow.
I mean, this song at the rodeo.
Oh, okay.
So it'll be the first it will bethe first like time we ever
played the song.
I'm gonna learn how to get thoseoctopus arms so I have like all
the the cameras so I can getevery angle that I possibly can
for it.
Villan that one for sure.
So if there's one piece ofadvice that you've been given in
your music or just really yourjourney at all, what it like
(03:17):
what sits with you?
I mean, uh the advice thatreally like helped me, I've had
a lot of advice, let me tellyou.
But the advice that has actuallyhelped me is that in everything
that I do, make sure I have agreat support system around me
because the music industry, likeit's it is bad for your mental
(03:40):
health sometimes.
Let's just be honest.
Like, this is a really hard anddark industry sometimes.
If you know, because you'reyou're constantly, you know,
comparing yourself to otherpeople and um you're trying to
make it and you're pushing andyou're working hard.
So it, you know, it justoverloads your brain sometimes.
So, you know, I was given theadvice to know just to have a
(04:00):
great support system and put Godfirst.
And I'm telling you, it hastruly worked out for me.
I wake up every morning and Isay, God, if this is not meant
for me, you close that door.
If it is meant for me, you openthat door.
And I have lived by that, evenwhen those doors close and it
hurts, even when he closes them,I know that it's in my best
(04:20):
interest.
He has my best interest.
And I don't have to be huge andfamous, I don't have to.
I just want my music to reachpeople and change people's
lives.
Like it's really about apurpose.
And if you can find your purposeand music and not just think,
oh, I want to be famous, I wantto have a household name, that's
when it gets dark because you'rechasing the wrong things.
(04:44):
If your goal is like thematerialistic things, the the
house and all these things, like, no, try again.
Like try again.
So yeah, um I would say, youknow, you know, put the right
things as a priority.
That's the and that's why I likeworking with people like you,
because like the whole point ofmischief was to work with people
with the heart, the heart behindit.
Like everybody there's so manypeople now, especially with
(05:05):
TikTok like blowing people up.
It's like, oh, they want thefame, they want the fortune, but
like you forget the reason whyyour why.
Yeah.
I always tell people whetherthat's in country dancing,
music, whatever I'm doing, likeremembering your why, I think is
the most important part becausethat's what's gonna keep you
going even on your darkest days.
Absolutely.
So if you haven't already, makesure you're street, go and
(05:26):
stream.
I wish I could talk.
Words are hard.
It's been a long day.
Give her a break.
So, how long have we been goingat this?
We've been going since what, 10o'clock this morning?
Well, when we can find parking.
Yeah, okay.
We're not even gonna talk aboutthat.
That's for another video.
We're our cars are probablygetting towed right now as we're
doing this.
I think I paid.
I'm not sure.
(05:46):
I didn't have caffeine when Iparked this morning.
It's fine.
It'll bluff.
We'll figure it out.
So if you're not already, makesure you go check out Becca
Bowen and all streamingplatforms that you've got.
Um, because you got new musiccoming out.
You've already got some greatsongs out.
Doing a lot of shows.
Y'all come out.
We we put on a heck of a show.
We were very we were likeperformers, the whole band.
(06:07):
You are even during youracoustic ones, like you still
put on like I'm not shocked bythat, but like some people when
you're doing acoustic,especially writers' rounds,
they're like, Yeah, I'm justvibing.
It's so hard for me to sit in aseat.
I mean, you see, today I cantell it whiskey.
You know, it's hard for me.
I'm like, when they put me inthat seat for that writer's
round, I'm like, ah, let me up,let me out of here.
(06:28):
Kiddle, like crack, like it'slike I just need to move around.
But alright, like I said, goahead and stream Becca Bowen.
That sounded really weird, butit is what it is.
Give her a follow, check out hermusic, and that's enough for
talking mischief.
