Allen has lived his entire life in Sullivan County where both his grandparents owned bungalow colonies. He ran a business creating architectural scale models for developers and builders, and for 24 years, he was the Code Enforcement Officer for the town of Fallsburg.
The many artifacts he saved from destruction during those years form one of the most significant collections of Borscht Belt ephemera. He is the author of two books, Tales of a Catskill Mountain Plumber and More Borscht From A Catskill Mountain Plumber.
