Ever wonder what plays through someone else's speakers during those long drives? Our conversation takes a fascinating detour into the audio preferences that accompany us on life's journeys.

The simple question "Do you listen to sermons, podcasts, or worship music in the car?" sparked revealing insights about how we process information and what we value. Jason immediately pointed out the missing option—audiobooks—his longtime companion for technical learning while on the move. His dual passion for knowledge acquisition and worship music represents the perfect harmony between intellectual curiosity and spiritual nourishment.

David's story about subjecting his college-bound son to nine consecutive hours of John Lennox lectures during their cross-country drive had us all laughing in recognition. These parental audio "tortures" can become surprisingly influential, as another host shared how his father's oldies-only policy during childhood road trips eventually transformed his musical taste as an adult. These moments highlight the subtle yet powerful ways fathers shape their children's perspectives, even through something as seemingly insignificant as car audio choices.

Our discussion revealed how our listening patterns adapt to different circumstances—shorter drives might call for music, while longer journeys open space for deeper engagement with audiobooks or sermons. Podcasts have become increasingly popular among us, partly due to their digestible length and diverse content options. The tension between feeling obligated to finish what we start versus embracing shorter content formats reflects broader approaches to information consumption in today's content-saturated world.

What plays through your car speakers? Share your road trip soundtrack preferences and join our conversation about how these choices reflect who we are and what we value on life's journey.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Quick questions with David.
Sorry, guys, all right, allright guys.
We have more questions.
We have far more questions thanwe have.
Tonality yes.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
So let's ask a question.
All right, In a car, do youlisten to sermons, podcasts or
worship music the most?

Speaker 2 (00:22):
You left one out you left out audiobooks you left out
audiobooks.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Yes, obviously I do not listen to audiobooks in cars
, so yes, I did leave that out.
That won't be my answer.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Yeah, I'm a combination of all of them.
I just couldn't let you get bywithout the audiobooks,
especially the big, reallygigantic ones.
So I do love, I do love anaudio book.
I love learning the technicalsof things, obviously, and what
better way to do it than whenyou're driving?
So I'm I'm, an audio bookfanatic, but I'm also, you all

(00:56):
know, I'm a music fanatic, soit's worship music all the time,
but if I'm not listening to aworship music, I'm definitely
listening to an audio book.
Nice, All right, nice For me, Imean listening to.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
oh, I got you first.
Ha ha, I beat you.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Ooh, he was ready.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
I was For me.
I listened to actually a lot ofkeynote speeches from
universities, from keyapologists, whether it's William
Lane, craig, john Lennox, frankTurek.
I listened to a lot of thosejust keynote speeches where
they're talking about a topic inthe Bible and I will listen to.
I remember actually driving myson to college.

(01:31):
We live in South Florida, hegoes to college north of
Pittsburgh, so you're talkingabout an 18 to 20 hour drive and
half of it I was listening toJohn Lennox and my son was like
of it.
I was listening to John Lennoxand my son was like how do you
understand what he's saying?
He is very uh, he gets verydeep, he's he's brilliant.
But that's why I enjoy himliterally for probably nine

(01:53):
hours is what I listened to.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
And your son was going.
Can you just put anything elsein the world on Like, could you?
Could you put two dryers withcoins inside them on for the
next nine hours, please, oh man.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
That reminds me when I used to drive with my dad from
New York to Florida and like hewould play all the oldies and
at the time I was a big hip hophead and I was like what are you
?
Are you killing me, dad?
And he's like he'll let melisten to the radio for like one
hour of all that time and Ilove it.

(02:28):
Now I absolutely love oldiesand all different type of musics
because of him.
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
But we have influence as fathers.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Yeah, fathers are great.
I would say for me it's justlike you, jason is a combination
of things.
I think it all depends what'shappening in my life or what's
happening for the road.
Right, if I'm going on a longerroad trip, it might be an audio
book, it might be a sermon.
That's a little bit longer I'mable to digest it and I have a
longer drive, Shorter drives.

(02:57):
It will be maybe some music, worship music or just any type
of music, but lately for me, theheavy one.
I think, if I look back, itwould be podcasts.
Podcasts are big just becausewe started our podcast, but also
it's just different variationof podcasts, right, and it's a
short live, short nugget for theday or for the time.

(03:17):
So I think podcast has beensomething that's really heavy
listening right now.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
It's definitely growing with me too.
Mean, I'm I've, I've been, I'vebeen hardcore audiobooks for
probably 15 years now.
So I do love podcasts, but, like my other problems are so
many podcasts I know that thatyou don't know which ones to
listen to, and when I get intoone, I'm gonna sit there and
listen to 50 or 100 of them.
So it's like it better be good.
So I just don't know what toget into.

(03:44):
But yeah, there's so many waysto learn.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
I'm the type of guy that if I said if I'm going to
start it, I'm going to finish it, so podcasting me.
I'm able to just go all right,I'll finish it, but it's going
to be done in 10 minutes orwhatever it is, or I could skip
it without having to know that Imissed so much where something
else bigger.
I'm like, ah, I gotta sit down,I gotta finish this, I gotta

(04:08):
you never know, it turns backaround and I might like it, but
yeah yeah, that that is whathappened, guys.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
So, guys, again, we learn something new every day
and every week.
So thanks for your time, thanksfor your consideration.
We'll see you next week bye.
