SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
So your kink life is
good, but that's actually the
problem.
Because when things are good, you stop pushing, you get
comfortable.
And comfortable in ADS dynamicis just a slow drift toward
boring.
So today I'm giving you sevenways to shake things up so you
can make your kink life evenkinkier.
(00:21):
Welcome to the Dom SublivingPodcast.
If you're listening to thisepisode, something brought you
here.
And I'd be willing to bet it'sthis.
Things are good, but they feel alittle same.
The scenes are familiar, theprotocols are comfortable.
Maybe it's been a while sincesomething in your dynamic
(00:42):
genuinely surprised you.
Maybe you can't even rememberthe last time you felt that
little flutter of nerves beforea scene, that edge of not quite
knowing what's about to happen.
That's what this episode isabout.
Not fixing what's broken, butleveling up what's already
working.
(01:02):
Because there's a sneaky thingthat happens in long-term DS
relationships, and I'veexperienced this too.
But you get into a groove, andthen that groove becomes a rut.
So today we are talking aboutexactly how to climb out of it.
I've got seven ways to make yourkink life kinkier, and I'm going
(01:22):
to go deep on every single one.
And if you want to head start onfiguring out which direction to
take any of this, I have a freekink checklist waiting for you
at dompsobliving.com/slashchecklist.
You can use it to discover newthings you haven't tried yet.
You can treat it like a bucketlist or use it as a bingo card
(01:44):
and see how many things you cancross off.
Or you can sit down with yourpartner and go through it
together as a conversationstarter.
A lot of couples have told me itopened up discussions they've
been trying to have for yearsbut didn't have the words for
it.
It's free.
It's at domsubliving.com/slashchecklist.
The links in the descriptiontoo, so go grab that.
(02:07):
Okay, now let's make your kinklife kinkier.
So before we get into the how, Iwant to spend a minute on the
what because I think a lot ofpeople hear the word kinky and
immediately picture somethingpretty extreme.
So full leather, a suspensionrig, a dungeon with a bunch of
(02:27):
St.
Andrew's crosses and cages.
And sure, that's kink, but thatis not the whole picture, like
not even close.
Kink is a spectrum, and whatfeels risque and edgy and maybe
even a little scary to oneperson is completely normal
Tuesday night stuff for someoneelse.
(02:50):
A couple who just tried ablindfold for the first time
might feel like they've crossedinto wild territory, and then
someone else is planning a fullweekend scene at a play party,
and they consider that a prettyslow week.
Neither one of them is morekinky.
Neither one is doing it right orwrong.
(03:11):
They're just in different placeson the same spectrum.
The word kink simply means notconventional.
It's anything that falls outsidethe sexual or relational
mainstream.
And where that line sits iscompletely personal.
It's defined by you, not by theinternet, not by me, not by what
(03:34):
you see on social media, not bywhat someone else in the
community is doing.
So this is not a competition.
There are no points for havingthe edgiest dynamic.
Nobody gets a trophy here.
What matters is that you arepushing your own edges and
exploring the parts of your bodyand mind that you personally
(03:57):
haven't explored yet.
And here's something I want youto sit with for the rest of this
episode.
A lot of what people describe aswanting more intensity is
actually something different.
It's not more extreme, it's moreintentional.
A lot of times I say it's notwhat you do, it's how you do it.
(04:18):
There's a real differencebetween those two things, and
we're going to come back to thatidea over and over today.
So let's talk about the groovefor a second because I want to
honor it before I challenge it.
There is something genuinelybeautiful about having an
established dynamic.
(04:39):
You know each other, you'vebuilt real trust, you have your
rituals, your roles, yourrhythms.
You don't have to explain whatyou need because your partner
already knows.
I mean, I barely even use mysafe word anymore because my DOM
knows me so well.
But that clarity and rhythm andease takes years to build.
(05:02):
It's a real and it's valuable,and it's not something you want
to blow up just so you can trysomething new.
But here's what happens overtime.
And I say this from personalexperience and from seeing it
with my students and clients, but that groove gets
predictable.
(05:23):
And in kink, predictabilityquietly kills intensity.
When you know exactly what'sgoing to happen, like when your
nervous system can map out thewhole scene before it even
starts, the anticipationdisappears.
And anticipation is responsiblefor so much of what makes kink
(05:45):
actually feel powerful.
That psychological buildup, thatcharged up waiting and that
sense of what is going tohappen, that is not just a nice
bonus.
It's a huge part of why we evendo this.
When was the last time you didsomething in your dynamic that
(06:06):
made you feel genuinely nervousor even just a little uncertain?
That feeling, that edge, is whatkink is made of.
Not the gear, not the technique, that feeling.
And that feeling lives in theunknown.
The good news is you don't haveto scrap your whole dynamic to
(06:29):
get it back.
Sometimes the smallest shift inthe right direction changes
everything.
So let's talk about what thoseshifts look like.
And I'm going to give you sevendifferent ways here.
Okay, what if I told you thatsometimes the fastest way to
make your kink life kinkier hasnothing to do with what you're
(06:49):
doing and everything to do withwho's in the room.
Now I know this is a big one,and I want to be really clear,
this is not for everyone, andthat is completely fine.
There is no pressure here, butfor people who are open to
exploring it, the presence ofanother person, or even just the
(07:11):
idea of one, can completelytransform the energy of your
dynamic in a way that almostnothing else can touch.
We're talking about things likenon-monogamy, cuck holding,
voyeurism, exhibitionism, evenjust going to a kink event and
watching other people play.
You don't have to engage withanyone.
(07:33):
You can just, you know, purelybe an observer.
But being in a space where otherpeople are also doing this,
where you're not the only ones,it just shifts something.
There's energy at a play partyor a dungeon that you genuinely
cannot recreate at home, nomatter how creative you get.
(07:55):
And for a lot of couples, beingin the environment kind of acts
like a reset button.
You see your own dynamic throughnew eyes.
I know for me, sometimes we'llgo to a dungeon and we may not
play with other people, but justus playing or seeing other
people play, and then we comeback home, it just makes our
(08:18):
next scene 10 times hotter.
It's like that energy rubbed offon us.
And even on a much smallerscale, even if none of that
feels right for where you are, there's a version of this that
almost any couple can try.
So a sub-journaling for theirDOM, where they're writing in
(08:40):
real detail about what theywant, what they felt, what
they're craving.
The Dom reading it is theaudience.
That act of being witnessed evenprivately, even on paper like
that, it just adds a layer ofvulnerability that totally
changes things.
It's intimate in a different waythan a scene is.
(09:04):
And the Dom reading it isexperiencing voyeurism in a way.
So for a lot of couples, thattype of journaling unlocks
something.
But I also have a whole episodeon public play that goes much
deeper on this topic ofexhibitionism and voyeurism.
(09:25):
And it gives you a ton ofdifferent ideas.
So definitely go check that outtoo.
Now let's move on to thebedroom.
So it's comfortable, it'sprivate, and after a while, it's
also incredibly predictable.
And we've already talked aboutwhat predictability does to
intensity.
And here's what I've noticed, and I think you probably have
(09:48):
recognized this too.
But the setting you're in sendsa signal to your nervous system
about what kind of experience iscoming.
A hotel room feels differentfrom your own bedroom, right?
The unfamiliar sheets, thedifferent light, the fact that
you're somewhere you're notsupposed to be doing this, the
(10:10):
fact that someone's probably inthe room next to you and may or
may not hear everything, itprimes you differently.
Especially if you're in maybe anicer hotel than you typically
stay at with your family.
You know, maybe it's a littlebougie, you may feel a little
more elegant and high-end, andso you kind of act a little
(10:32):
different too.
(12:03):
And then a dungeon or a playspace is a completely different
universe.
Just walking in the door andhearing the music and seeing the
equipment, it just starts toshift your headspace before you
even do anything.
But you don't need to get anexpensive hotel room or buy
tickets to a high-end dungeon.
(12:25):
I remember something me and myDom did when the kids were
finally old enough to stay home.
We just went for a drive onenight.
No plan, we found an isolatedspot, and we ended up doing this
really creative little sceneright there in the car.
No gear, no setup, nothing we'dreally prepared.
(12:47):
And it completely felt differentfrom anything we'd done at home.
It wasn't because of what wedid, but because of where we
were.
We were somewhere new, outsideof the house.
There was just something aboutbeing out in the world, even in
a private spot, that added thiswhole layer of novelty to it,
(13:09):
like we were getting away withsomething.
And that feeling was its ownkind of intensity.
So if your dynamic lives almostentirely in your bedroom, start
simple.
So book a hotel for a night andsee what changes.
Look into whether there's adungeon or play space in your
(13:30):
area.
If you're a member of our allaccess pass and you need help
finding a dungeon or play spacein your area, we have
directories you can search therebecause a lot of cities have
them and they're more accessiblethan people think.
But honestly, just go for adrive and leave your house if
that's all you can manage.
You don't need a production, youjust need somewhere that isn't
(13:54):
the same four walls.
Okay.
When people think about makingtheir kink life kinkier, new
gear is usually the first thingthat comes to mind.
And yes, a new implement and anew piece of rope or something
you've never felt before, thatcan all absolutely work.
Newness disrupts the pattern, and disrupting the pattern is
(14:18):
the whole point.
But I want to reframe this alittle because newness is not
just a shopping list.
You don't have to spend money tointroduce something new.
Let me give you a real examplefrom my own life.
So my Dom has a pretty standardway he restrains me.
So, you know, arms above myhead, my head is on the bed,
(14:42):
legs are spread.
It's like a configuration I knowpretty well.
And my body knows it.
And it's good.
I'm not complaining.
But lately he's been justexploring new variations.
So he'll do like a hog tie,he'll use a D-ring that he has
bolted to our wall, and he'lluse that to restrain me, you
(15:05):
know, where I'm standing upinstead of lying down.
It's the same DOM, it's the samedynamic, the same relationship,
but my body is in a completelydifferent position.
My range of movement isdifferent.
My experience of the whole thingis different.
And we didn't need to buyanything new to get there.
We just use what we already hadin a way we hadn't been using it
(15:29):
lately.
This is also a great time tojust zoom out and look at the
full BDSM framework because Ithink a lot of couples are only
playing in one or two corners ofit without realizing how much
territory they haven't explored.
So think about what each letteractually represents in the BDSM
(15:51):
acronym.
So there's bondage, discipline,dominance, submission,
sadomasochism.
Each one of those is its ownentire world with subcategories
most people haven't eventouched.
And here's a flip I really love.
If you always do pain, dosensory deprivation instead.
(16:12):
If you always do forced pain, try forced pleasure.
If your discipline during thescene is always punishments, try
doing sexual rewards.
The power dynamic stays thesame, the intensity level can
stay the same, but your brainand your body process them
completely different.
(16:33):
It feels new because it is new, even if everything else about
your dynamic is exactly what ithas always been.
And again, if you need ideas fornew things to try or mix things
up, definitely grab that freelist of 50 different kinks at
domsubliving.com/slashchecklist.
It's basically a visual map ofall of this and keeps it
(16:56):
organized so you can see exactlywhat you've done and what you
haven't done.
But okay, moving on to our nextway to make your kink life
kinkier.
Here's a question I want you tosit with for a second.
What would happen if just onceyou handed over the controls?
I'm not necessarily talkingabout a full role reversal,
(17:21):
although you can do that.
And you know, if you're aswitch, you can do that.
That's totally fine.
But what I'm talking about iswhere the DOM maybe just takes
one scene and kind of brieflyputs the sub in charge.
Maybe the sub can discoversomething about their own
desires they didn't know wasthere, or maybe the DOM can
(17:44):
learn from their sub.
Because even if full switchingisn't your thing, and honestly,
for a lot of couples it reallyisn't, but there are other ways
to shake up who's steering, soto speak.
Like, what if the sub got toplan a scene?
Like, not run it.
The DOM still holds authorityand can veto anything, but the
(18:09):
sub maps out what they want.
Or even remove the humandecision making entirely.
Like roll a dice, pick a card, use an AI-generated prompt.
And that way neither of youknows what's going to happen
next.
And you don't have to feelself-conscious about having to
(18:29):
ask for it.
It's just about what'shappening.
And for couples where one orboth of you struggle to voice
exactly what you want, havingthat neutral third party or
object can really just opendoors that have been quietly
closed for a long time.
(18:49):
Okay, now I need you to staywith me on this next one because
it's going to sound completelybackwards at first.
But the path to more intensekink is often to do less faster
and more slower.
People rush scenes.
They want to get to the goodpart.
(19:11):
And in doing that, they skip thepart that actually makes it
good.
Because here's the thing (19:16):
the
the good part is not the orgasm.
The good part is the buildup.
It's the anticipation.
It's the time before anythingeven happens.
When you're already in it, whenyour nervous system is already
activated, when everything theDOM does or says lands 10 times
(19:40):
harder than it normally wouldbecause the sub is already so
deep in headspace.
That window, that suspended, stretched out moment of not yet
is where psychological intensityactually lives.
And most couples either rushthrough it or skip it entirely
(20:00):
because they don't realize it isthe most valuable part of the
whole experience.
Slowing down looks like a lot ofdifferent things.
So longer, more deliberatenegotiations before the scene
even starts.
A slower, more intentional entryinto the dynamic, maybe a
ritual, maybe a moment ofstillness, like just something
(20:24):
that signals the shift fromregular vanilla life into scene
space.
I know I've shared before how mydom will have me kneel before a
scene and he'll tell me what hewants to happen during the scene
and what his goals for me are.
But sometimes he kind of dragsthat out and lets me just wait
there and think, like, oh myGod, what does he have planned?
(20:47):
Silence is used as a toolinstead of something to fill.
So the pause before the command, the look that says everything
without having to say a singleword.
Anticipation that's drawn outlong enough to become almost
unbearable.
Kink gets deeper when it'sactually felt, not just done.
(21:12):
And feeling takes time.
So give it time.
Okay, now here's something thatis true for a surprising number
of kinksters, and almost nobodytalks about it.
You can do the kinkiest, mostintense, dirtiest, most
elaborate thing, and then turninto the biggest, most
(21:36):
embarrassed, prude when you haveto say those things out loud.
Dirty talk is its own skill.
It feels vulnerable in acompletely different way than
physical kink does.
And a lot of people who aredoing genuinely intense things
are doing them in near totalsilence, which means they're
(21:58):
leaving an entire dimension ofthe experience untouched.
So when you're adding words towhat's happening, where you're
describing it and narrating itand naming it while it's
actually happening, it creates apsychological layer that exists
completely separate from thephysical act.
(22:19):
It's one thing to be restrained,it's something else to have your
DOM tell you in detail exactlywhat they're going to do to you
while you're already restrainedand can't do anything about it.
The words hit differently thanthe touch does.
They land in a different part ofyour brain.
And for a lot of people, thewords are actually the more
(22:41):
powerful element.
So if dirty talk isn't part ofyour dynamic yet, start small.
Just describe what's happening, name what you're doing, see what
it does to the energy.
And bonus tip here (22:55):
if you're a
DOM, make your sub ask for it.
If they're whining or wigglingor trying to get you to do
something, ask them what is itthat you want?
Say it.
I almost made a Twilightreference where he says, say it
out loud, and she says, vampire.
(23:18):
One of the funniest parts of themovie, but yes, channel your
inner Edward here.
But there's a second layer here, and it's the less sexy one.
So really Real communication, the kind that happens outside
the scene, where you're fullyclothed with complete sentences
and honest answers.
(23:39):
So asking, what did that feellike?
What did you want more of?
What almost crossed a line?
What would you want to try nexttime?
Those conversations are thefoundation that everything else
is built on.
The kinksters who have the mostsatisfying, the most intense,
the most deeply fulfilling kinklives, they are almost always
(24:03):
the ones who talk about it themost.
Not just in scene, but before itand after it.
Clear expectations, honestfeedback, ongoing adjustment.
Better communication equalsbetter kink every single time.
Not sometimes, every time.
And that is not optional.
(24:25):
Like I said, it is thefoundation everything else sits
on.
So say it out loud.
All right.
We made it to the last way tomake your kink life kinkier.
And I saved this for the end onpurpose because this is the
layer that most people don'ttalk about.
And it might be the one thatchanges everything.
(24:47):
You can have the best gear, themost creative scene setup, the
perfect location, excellentcommunication and dirty talk.
And you could still miss thething that makes kink genuinely
life-changing.
Because that thing doesn't livein any of those places.
It lives in someone's head.
(25:08):
The mental game is where realintensity is.
Physical sensation has aceiling.
Your body can only process somuch.
Psychological experience doesn'thave that ceiling.
It can go as deep as you'rewilling to go.
Think about what this actuallylooks like in practice.
So mindfucks, where the DOMchanges the direction or
(25:32):
consensually gaslights the subor surprises them and keeps them
genuinely off balance wherethey're just unsure of what's
real or what's coming next.
And it doesn't even have to beduring a scene.
Anticipation can happen overhours or even days where the sub
is waiting for something thathasn't happened yet.
(25:53):
And that waiting becomes its ownexperience.
So tasks with real consequencesthat just kind of linger in the
background of everyday life.
Something the sub is carryingeven when they're at work or
running errands.
It's just kind of like aconstant low hum of the dynamic
underneath their regular life.
(26:14):
And in addition to mindfucking, psychology can also include edge
play and consensual non-consent.
Now, I want to say this clearly:
a lot of people try to jump (26:21):
undefined
straight here before they'vebuilt the communication and the
trust that makes this worksafely.
Psychological play without asolid foundation can go sideways
fast.
But for couples who have thatfoundation, who have done the
(26:41):
communication work, who have thereal trust, who know each other
well, this is where DS can getreally profound and really,
really kinky.
But okay, there you have it.
Seven ways to make your kinklife kinkier.
So change the people, change thesetting, bring in newness,
(27:02):
switch it up, slow it down, talkabout it out loud during and
after, and go psychological.
You don't need to do all ofthese, you don't have to do them
in any particular order either, but I want you to pick one, just
one, and try it this week.
Not someday, but before the nextepisode of this podcast.
(27:27):
Because information withoutaction is just entertainment.
And as much as I like to thinkhighly of myself, you're not
here to be entertained.
You're here to actually deepenyour role and your dynamic.
And remember, if you want a headstart on figuring out which
direction to take any of this, Ihave that free kink checklist
(27:48):
waiting for you atdomsubliving.comslash checklist.
The links in the descriptiontoo, but you can use it to
discover new things you haven'ttried yet.
You can treat it like a bucketlist or a bingo card, and you
can see how much ground you'vealready covered, or you can sit
down with your partner and gothrough it together as a
conversation starter.
(28:08):
So it's free, it's atdomsubliving.com/slash
checklist.
Go grab it.
Even if you're in a good groovenow, don't let it become a rut.
Kink is a spectrum, and we canall get a little kinkier with
these different ideas and tipsthat I shared with you today.
But until next time, keepembracing your power and
(28:28):
pleasure through Dom Subliving.
