Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up, Faithful
Fox family?
Welcome back to part two of theArmor of God series.
I'm your host, Justin, andtoday we are talking about the
very first piece of armor.
Paul mentions the belt of truth, and no, we're not talking
about some medieval fashionstatement here.
We are talking about thefoundation that holds your
(00:21):
entire spiritual life together.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
So buckle up, see
what I did there and the way
that he's taken away our city.
Yeah, your words give me grace, and you're here in this place.
I've been blind by your holylight.
Give me blessings from abovewhen I broadcast.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Welcome to the
Faithful Fox Podcast waist.
Now some of you might bethinking, justin, why are we
starting with a belt?
Shouldn't we start with, like, the helmet or the chest piece?
You know, the important stuff.
But here's the thing In Romanarmor, the belt wasn't just an
accessory.
It wasn't like your dad's beltthat holds up his cargo shorts
(01:41):
at the barbecue.
This belt was the foundationpiece that everything else
attached to.
Your sword hung from it, yourbreastplate connected to it, and
if your belt failed, you werebasically fighting in your
ancient underwear, which is nota good look for anyone.
And, spiritually speaking, truthis exactly that.
(02:01):
It's the foundation thateverything else in your
Christian life hangs on.
Without truth, your faithbecomes this wobbly, unstable
mess that falls apart.
The moment someone asks you ahard question or life gets
difficult.
But when you're grounded inGod's truth, when you know who
God is, who you are in Him andwhat his word says, you become
(02:27):
unshakable.
You become the kind of personwho can stand firm when everyone
else is falling apart.
This is gear check, okay.
So let's break down this beltof truth and see what we're
working with here, because truthisn't just some abstract
(02:48):
concept.
It's practical, it's powerfuland it's absolutely essential
for spiritual survival.
First, let's talk about whattruth actually is.
Jesus said in John 14, verse 6,I am the way and the truth and
the life.
Truth isn't just information.
(03:09):
Truth is a person, it's JesusChrist himself.
When you put on the belt oftruth, you're not just
memorizing facts about God,you're anchoring your life to
the reality of who Jesus is.
But it gets better.
Truth is also God's word.
Psalm, chapter 119, verse 160,says all your words are true,
(03:34):
all your righteous laws areeternal.
The Bible isn't just acollection of nice stories and
good advice.
It's the unchanging, unshakabletruth that you can build your
entire life on.
Now here's where it getspractical.
The belt of truth means livingauthentically.
No fake Christianity, noSunday-only faith, no pretending
(03:58):
to be someone you're not.
It means being honest aboutyour struggles, your doubts,
your failures, and honest aboutGod's grace, his love and His
power in your life.
Second, let's talk about whatthis belt does for you.
First, it gives you stability.
(04:19):
When you know the truth aboutGod, that he's good and that
he's faithful and that he lovesyou unconditionally, you don't
get knocked over by everycircumstance or emotion that
comes your way.
Second, it gives youdiscernment.
In a world full of lies,half-truths and spiritual
deception, knowing God's truthhelps you spot the counterfeits.
(04:42):
You become like those banktellers who handle real money so
much that they can instantlyspot a fake bill.
Third and last, it gives youconfidence.
When you know that God's wordis true, that his promises are
reliable and that Jesus reallydid conquer sin and death, you
can face anything with boldness.
(05:03):
You're not hoping God mightshow up.
You know he will, because healways keeps his word.
This is battle ready.
All right, so we know what thebelt of truth is, but how do we
actually put it on?
Because some of y'all are outhere trying to fight spiritual
(05:26):
battles while living in denial, and that's like trying to run a
marathon with your shoelacesuntied.
Step one get honest with God.
You can't put on truth whileyou're still living lies.
That means admitting whereyou've messed up, confessing
your sins and stopping thepretense that you've got it all
(05:46):
figured out.
God already knows anyway.
He's just waiting for you to behonest about it.
Maybe you've been tellingeveryone that your marriage is
fine, while you and your spousebarely speak to each other.
Or maybe you've been pretendingeveryone that your marriage is
fine, while you and your spousebarely speak to each other.
Or maybe you've been pretendingthat your finances are under
control while you're drowning indebt.
The belt of truth says stoppretending and start dealing
(06:10):
with reality, god's reality.
Step two get grounded in God'sword.
You can't stand on truth youdon't know.
This means actually readingyour Bible, not just posting
inspirational verses on socialmedia.
It means studying what God saysabout who he is, who you are
(06:31):
and how life is supposed to work.
And I know some of you arethinking, oh but Justin, the
Bible is massive and confusing.
Listen, you don't have tounderstand everything to get
started.
Pick one book, maybe start withthe Gospel of John or the Book
of James, and just start reading.
Ask God to show you what hewants you to learn.
(06:54):
Trust me, he will.
Step three live what you learn.
Truth that doesn't change howyou live isn't really truth.
It's just information.
When you really believe thatGod is your provider, you stop
worrying about money.
When you really believe thatGod has forgiven your past, you
(07:16):
stop letting guilt control yourfuture.
Here's what I want you tounderstand.
The enemy's primary weaponagainst you is deception.
He wants you to believe liesabout God, lies about yourself
and lies about yourcircumstances.
But when you're wearing thebelt of truth, his lies bounce
(07:36):
off you like rubber bullets.
But when you're wearing thebelt of truth, his lies bounce
off you like rubber bullets.
He whispers God doesn't reallylove you.
But the truth says for God soloved the world that he gave his
one and only son.
He whispers you're too far goneto be forgiven.
But the truth says if weconfess our sins, he is faithful
(07:57):
and just and will forgive usour sins.
He whispers you're all alone inthis.
But truth says never will Ileave you, never will I forsake
you.
This is Rookie Mistakes.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Oh, my mistake.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
All right time for
some real talk about how we mess
up this whole belt of truththing.
And yeah, I've made thesemistakes.
So I'm speaking from the Hallof Fame of spiritual face plants
.
So, rookie, mistake number oneThinking truth is just about
being factually correct.
You become that person whocorrects everyone's theology at
(08:39):
the dinner table and wonders whynobody wants to talk to you
about Jesus.
Truth isn't just about beingright, it's about being loving,
gracious and helpful.
You can be technically correctand spiritually useless, rookie.
Mistake number two using truthas a weapon instead of a
(09:00):
foundation.
Some people get so excited aboutknowing God's truth that they
start beating people over thehead with Bible verses.
That's not the belt of truth, that's the club of
self-righteousness and it's notstandard military issue.
Rookie.
Mistake number three forgettingthat truth includes grace.
(09:22):
This was me for a while.
I got so focused on God'sstandards and his holiness that
I forgot about his mercy and hislove.
Truth without grace is justlegalism with a fancy name.
The full truth is that God isboth holy and merciful, both
just and gracious.
Rookie.
(09:45):
Mistake number four Trying tofigure out every mystery before
you live what you already know.
You get so caught up in tryingto understand the trinity, or
predestination, or end timesprophecy, that you forget to
actually love your neighbor andforgive your enemies.
Master the basics before youtackle the advanced courses.
(10:06):
But here's the beautiful thingabout our God he's patient with
our rookie mistakes.
He doesn't kick you out of thearmy for learning on the job.
He just picks you up, adjustsyour belt and says all right,
let's try this again.
Fam.
The belt of truth is whereeverything begins.
(10:26):
It's the foundation of yourfaith, the anchor of your soul
and the starting point ofspiritual victory.
Without it, you're trying tobuild your Christian life on
shifting sand.
With it, you're building on therock-solid foundation of God's
unchanging truth.
As we wrap up today, I want tochallenge you to do a truth
(10:47):
check in your own life.
Are there areas where you'vebeen living in denial or
deception?
Are there lies you've beenbelieving about God or about
yourself?
Are there truths in God's wordthat you know but haven't been
living?
The beautiful thing about truthis that it sets you free.
(11:13):
Jesus said you will know thetruth, and the truth will set
you free, free from pretense, free from fear, free from the
exhausting work of trying tomaintain lies and keep up
appearances, when you'regrounded in God's truth, you can
(11:33):
be authentically yourself, struggles and all, because you
know that your identity isn'tbased on your performance but on
God's grace.
On your performance, but onGod's grace.
So, as you go through this week, practice putting on that belt
(11:54):
of truth every morning.
Remind yourself of who God is,who you are in Him and what His
word says about your life.
Let His truth be the foundationthat everything else in your
day is built on.
Next time we're talking aboutthe breastplate of righteousness
(12:17):
and trust me, you're going toneed it for what's coming you
are loved, you are chosen, youare grounded in truth.
Peace out, fam.
