Beam aboard for a surprisingly fun (and accidentally hilarious) breakdown of Star Trek: The Original Series – “The Deadly Years” (S2E11) — the episode where the Enterprise crew learns the hard way that space radiation + aging makeup = chaos. 😅

In this Final Frontier Podcast episode, we cover:

-Why “The Deadly Years” is better than it has any right to be (for 1967)

-The goofy-but-impressive aging effects (and why Shatner fought “too old” Kirk)

-Kirk’s dementia-coded mood swings, forgetfulness, and that wildly relevant hearing scene

-Spock’s iconic “it’s cold” bit (Vulcan needs a blanket, confirmed)

-The Romulan Neutral Zone mess + Commodore Stoker’s “oh no” command decisions

-The clever broken-code bluff + corbomite-style fakeout

Our favorite running gag: “Now is not the time for flirting… you have a ticking clock crisis on your hands.”

Episode facts we discuss:

📺 Original air date: December 5, 1967

🧾 Written by: David P. Harmon | Directed by: Joseph Pevney

If you love TOS deep cuts, production trivia, and the kind of commentary that notices when Chekov is basically being used as furniture in Sickbay… you’re in the right quadrant.

Did “The Deadly Years” work for you… or is it secretly the most “old people are dicks” episode in TOS? (We said what we said.)
