The Financial Puzzle of Bitcoin and Blockchain with Loran Coffman – Part 1 (Ep. 47)

Cryptocurrency can feel confusing, speculative, or difficult to understand, especially with so much hype surrounding digital assets.

In this episode of The Financial Puzzle Playbook, Jim Sumpter sits down with Wealth Advisor and Founder of Route Financial Group, Loran Coffman, MRFC®, CRPC, CBDA℠, to break down the basics of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, and why digital assets are becoming a growing topic of conversation in financial planning.

Loran explains how Bitcoin evolved from an experimental software concept into a developing asset class, why blockchain matters beyond cryptocurrency, and how tools like Bitcoin ETFs are making digital assets more accessible through mainstream investment platforms. The conversation also explores how digital assets fit into a broader investment strategy, including how some investors evaluate them in diversification discussions and within the evolving landscape of modern investing.

Jim Sumpter, CFP®, and Loran Coffman discuss:

• The story behind Bitcoin Pizza Day and the first Bitcoin transaction
• What blockchain technology actually is and how it works
• The differences between Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and other digital assets
• How investors can access cryptocurrency through ETFs and regulated platforms
• And more!
