Speaker 1 (00:08):
What is upchisters. Welcome and welcome back to another episode
of the Gist of It. Today's Thursday, November twenty seventh,
aka American Thanksgiving. Happy Thanksgiving to all you turkeys. We
are so so grateful for you. We're your co hosts.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
I'm Ellen Hisslap and I'm step Rots and I love
that you just called them all turkey a bunch.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Of little turkeys. Gobble gobble, steph. What's your favorite dish
at Thanksgiving?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Any sort of sweet if sweet potato is involved? Oh oh,
sign me up.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Really mashed baked.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Fries, any format? Oh Pupkinbye? What am I saying?

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Okay?

Speaker 4 (00:52):
What about you?

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Turkey and gravy? Okay, fair, I'm a basic woman. I
actually aim to have three servings of turkey and gravy
every Thanksgiving, and I oftentimes don't make it fully to
the three, but I always make it to two.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
I know that I have a couple friends that are
obsessed with their protein intake, and they do love turkey on.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
A regular basis.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
But there's nothing like a Thanksgiving turkey or different than.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
The turkey they're putting in their.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Bowls exactly those bulls contexts.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
I don't eat meat, guys. That's why I'm asking these questions. Yeah, no,
this is the judgment free space.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yeah, this is a judgment free space. I feel like
they're probably thinking about like the lean meat ground turkey,
that type of a vibe probably within their I don't know,
burrito bowl or whatever the heck your protein rich friends
are eating versus this is like turkey just literally slathered
a gravy and normally cooked in a whole lot of butter,

(01:54):
and it's just freaking delicious. So we hope that everyone
is enjoying a nice, real life, extra long weekend and
that you're enjoying all things football because Thanksgiving is also
very much synonymous with the NFL.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
And for all your turkeys out there, we have an
extra special treat for today's podcast. Football analyst k Adams
sat down with our associate managing editor Lauren Tuscala to
share her predictions for today's three games slate ahead of
headlining the EA Sports Madden NFL cast during tonight's primetime
game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Kay Adams, thank you for joining the podcast, Like, oh yeah,
I'm just gonna do a little bit of a podcast
this week before jumping on national TV for some of
the most watched NFL games of the entire year. She
is extraordinary. She hosts her own daily NFL show for
fan Duel called Up and Adams Sligh so good, right,

(02:55):
so so good, and she is so knowledgeable about football
and is doing the most for women in the sport.
And I also think too, we've talked a lot about
sports betting on this podcast lately. One of the things
that I really love in particular about Kay Adams is
that she'll use the odds and the numbers and everything
like that to tell a story and paint the picture

(03:16):
of why things actually matter by using the data and
using her analysis. And it's a really, I don't know
smart way to look at football, and so I feel
like there truly is no better person to learn from
before watching today's games, which I believe start at one
pm Eastern. So if anyone wants to get in touch

(03:38):
with me, don't.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
I thought you had five million meetings.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
I yeah, you're right, I do. And when I'm out
of those meetings, that's how we're doing. Or if I
have a block on my calendar, you know, I'll be
sitting with my laptop on the couch or you know
what I've been doing a lot lately, Steph is I
have a double screen, and then I've been also using
just my phone separately to watch football or to watch
shows or whatever, like the shows that I need to

(04:05):
be watching for work at the same time.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
Can you sit on the couch with a laptop right now?

Speaker 4 (04:09):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Anatomically yes.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
And the reason why stuff is asked that is for
those of you who are new here, I am very pregnant.
Well maybe not very I don't know when you actually
cross into the very pregnant side of things. I'm thirty
one weeks, so I'm close.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
We're about how many weeks are there again?

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Forty? Okay, like it's happening. And I think, I honestly
think it was only two weeks ago that it hit
me that it was like, oh, I'm having a baby,
Like I really, I really don't think it hit me
until two weeks ago.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
The thing that I love about you, Ellen is like
you really reserve your brain power for what's right ahead
of you. Yeah, And I think that makes you so
good at your job and everything that you do that
it also minimizes all those anxieties and so it's probably
for the best that I would say, you're it's just
kicking in now.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Thank you so much. I hope it's for the best.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
It could also not be for the best, you.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
Know what I mean, there's no you're gonna crush it.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
There's prosen there's pros that gods to everything. You know what.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
You know what my hot take is, but I think, kay,
you know how no one wants are.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
But it's it's related to what we just said.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
I think take pictures while you're in labor.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
I think that is so cool and.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Badass because to me, it's one of your best sporting
performances of your lifetime.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Okay, that's physical.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Think of the physical achievement that you are going through.
Think of all of the things that your body is achieving.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
In that moment. Would you want to document that? If
I'm winning a championship hockey game, I want someone to
take a picture.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
So honestly, I would like if I ever do conceieve
and give birth, is if that's in my future, someone's
gotta one of my bestie says to come take some
film photos because check out what I'm doing.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
And you actually have so many talented friends I could
properly do that Steph's steps. Steph is very cool Sesth's
friends are very cool. And you you walk into a
room with step and her friends, and I go, oh
my god, I automatically feel like I'm not cool enough
to be able to hang out with your friends. You were,

(06:23):
You were objectively you and your friends are objectively so cool.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
That's really sweet of you. Because Ellen wore the coolest
outfits to her baby shower and I haven't stopped thinking
about it since, and I was like, I didn't dress
cool enough for this baby shower.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Oh my god, you dressed great for that baby shower. Anyway,
I do love that hot take, and I feel like
we have been seeing it more with at least influencers
and things like that sharing their labor experiences. And I think,
what's interesting, Steph, before this this is our calling and
Audible we just went it's more hot take calling Audible whatever.
There's been so many things that we've been learning about.

(06:54):
And when I say we, I do tell Steph what
I learn about for bregency too, because I feel like
you don't no unless your friend actually is giving you
the goods day to day, you don't actually know, until
you want to have a kid or your boat to
have a kid, what the heck is going on? But
there has been some data lately that basically shows I
think once you're in the second or third trimester, being

(07:15):
pregnant is like expending the same amount of energy as
running a marathon every day. I see. So see point proven,
point proven labor. I think you just said is more
dangerous than playing hockey, Like statistically.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
Yeah, you know, I would say so.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
So the hot take is that giving birth is a sport.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
It's a sport, and it should be documented. And I
I'm not talking like putting in like getting in full
glam and having the pose after that's if you want
to do that.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
All the power to you.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
I mean the act you want to hear, the grunting.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
I want to see if like I want a photo
of me looking like the same equivalent of like doing
a sled puss.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
For like a high rocks.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
You know.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Yeah, I love that. Yeah, I love that. That's cool
And that's what I hope for you.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
I won't be doing that. I'm gonna tell everybody right now.
I love that for you. I do really appreciate that
we're thinking that it's at the same level as a
sports accomplishment. Because I do agree with you on that.
Do I want those photos?

Speaker 2 (08:18):
No?

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Have I been taking photos throughout this process? Absolutely not,
so I think if you but if you're you're a documenter, I.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
Have friends that are great at documenting thing there you
go leverage.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
And I think you're you're good at documenting cutie things
in your life too.

Speaker 4 (08:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
I have looked.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
I've been trying to turn my photos though, and I
have realized that the only selfies I've taken in the
last six months are ones that I've sent to my
friends from a low angle, like with a disdained look
on my face as reaction, and I'm like, I should
take some real photos.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
I love it when you take a selfie. You're so
good at taking selfies. You're such a good sting. You
have received one of the I've received a lot of
the low I've received a lot of the low self
But I love your Instagram I'm selfie approach anyway. I
just love going on around here. Obviously, I'm so grateful
for Steph. We're so grateful for all of you guys,

(09:10):
and we're also so grateful for the just plus We
have talked about it a few times on the podcast beforehand,
but I think one of the things that Seph and
I love so much about sports, but also love about
hosting this podcast, is that sports isn't just about winning
for yourself. It's about the people that you get to
share the sports experience with, whether you're playing, whether you're

(09:32):
watching what have you. And that's exactly why we created
the Just Plus. So it is a premium membership community
that's built by and for fans who are exceptionally tired
of the toxic corners of the Internet and are ready
for a space that feels good. So you're tired of Reddit,
you're tired of x, You're tired of the comments on

(09:52):
an ESPN post, and you just want a place where
you feel like you could be the sports fan that
you are and be well come and accepted. And we
have two different types of products in here. We have
a Rookie tier that's for five dollars a month, you
join the community on discord, you get exclusive content, you
get discounts from the gist, what have you. But then

(10:14):
the All Star Tier is really where it starts to
get crazy. For ten dollars a month, you get a
lot of extra perks, which include discounts from teams like
the Boston Bruins, Colorado Avalanche, New York Giants, discounts from
some of our favorite sports bars from around the country,
the sports Bra Watch Me, Rough and Tumble members only

podcast feed, where you get two additional podcasts a month,
and then everything else you get in the Rookie tier.

been so much fun building this community so far, and
we think our podcast listeners are the perfect group to
join in. So you can head to the Just sports
dot com slash page slash plus whereby following the link

Speaker 2 (11:08):
It's time for Lauren's convo with football analyst k Adams.
Be sure to catch k during tonight's primetime EA sports
matten cast exclusively on Peacock. This alternate broadcast will feature
video game style graphics, a bird's eye view camera, and
more for a new spin on traditional game day coverage.
Check out the link in the show notes for further
instructions on how to watch that and please enjoy case predictions.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
Kay Adams, Welcome to the gist of it. We're so
excited to have you on today.

Speaker 5 (11:36):
Happy Thanksgiving. Just love you guys.

Speaker 4 (11:39):
Happy Thanksgiving, shout out. We have a lot to get to.
We want to get to the football, but it is Thanksgiving,
so I want to start off with the actual reason
for the season, and that's the food, of course. So
when you're sitting down at your Thanksgiving table, what's the
dish that you're like, I cannot wait to eat this.

Speaker 6 (11:56):
Oh my goodness, I just love my mom's gravy. I'm
going to miss this year as it's Thanksgiving and I'm
in Baltimore. Begles at Ravens will get to all of that,
and I've worked really every holiday, but if I can
be home for Thanksgiving, it is my mom's gravy and
it's just the mushrooms in the gravy. It sounds crazy.
And I'm Polish, so we're a Pirogi family. Okay, that's
the English way to say it.

Speaker 5 (12:16):
But piero Ghi like Ruski, Pierroi whatever.

Speaker 6 (12:20):
Like I'm We're a big Polish food house. Even on Thanksgiving.

Speaker 4 (12:24):
I love that. I'm getting hungry. I bet too. I
love the gravy. That's a good feel feel.

Speaker 6 (12:29):
Like it really brings the whole thing together, Like you
can put it from the potatoes. It doesn't taste bad
on mac and cheese, like if you're if it hits
the deviled eggs, like I'm not mad about it. Like really,
gravy is like the most forgivable food on this can
touch anything.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
I love that so much. Well, I'll be looking for
to my gravy too. I can't wait for Thanksgiving dinner.
But I'm really as you said, we're talking about here
because of the Madden NFL cast and we're going to
get to that. But I think it's so cool that
you're going to be on this broadcast on Thanksgiving when
maybe people who don't watch the NFL as often, or
people just kind of gathering in the living room watching,
and they'll get to see a woman on the call.

(13:03):
And I just think that's so special. So what has
been your experience of being a woman covering the NFL
in these male dominated spaces?

Speaker 5 (13:09):
Yeah, and it won't just.

Speaker 6 (13:10):
Be me, Melissa Stark will be there, of course, on
the sidelines on the NBC broadcast. We're doing this Peacock
exclusive broadcast and it's cool, like you're saying the GISTs
like vibes with a woman's vantage point, a lens, that
approach to loving sports, loving all sports, men's and women's,
and with football like that. That's what we're doing with
this Madden broadcast. And I'm not a huge I'm an
enthusiast with Madden. I'm just getting started. But I've always

(13:32):
been naturally curious about storylines, about what things mean, and
it's sort of inviting different audiences in and that's what
we'll do. We'll have a different view with a skycam,
which is really really fun, and I feel really welcome
as a woman into that world.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
I did not grow up playing Madden.

Speaker 6 (13:49):
It does not video games don't come naturally, and I
don't know if that's a woman man thing, but I
feel super welcome by Madden, who's so so warm and
welcoming into this space. And I think that that's how
sports and football are for all women. And I don't really,
to be super honest, I don't focus on it. It's
not something that I super focus on in my world.

(14:09):
If I look at being a woman in sports, it's
nice to see more and more women all over the
place in great roles.

Speaker 5 (14:15):
I mean, in my everyday job.

Speaker 6 (14:17):
On upp and Adams, the CEO of my company, Fan Duel,
is a strong, wonderful engine of a woman named Amy
Howe who I look up to and and you know,
the more the merrier, I think it's like not that
much of a storyline right now.

Speaker 5 (14:32):
To be honest, I love that.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
That's where it should be. Really like, I feel like
it used to be, Oh, it's a woman, and it
was it was the storyline. So to be at that
point and to feel like it's just I'm just showing up,
I'm doing my job, that is awesome.

Speaker 6 (14:42):
I think there's always work to be done, Lauren, but
it's really nice to see progress.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
Yeah, that's awesome. Well with that with the storyline, let's
get into the actual football and what everyone's here for today.
So I kind of want to go game by game
and get a little bit of a sense of what
you're looking out for in each one. And let's start
with Lions pack that NFC North showdown to kick us
off at one pm. What's like the one storyline in
this one that you're like, everyone should follow this player,
the storyline thing to look out for.

Speaker 6 (15:08):
Oh my gosh, can the Packers run the ball? And
have an identity and be who they say they are,
which is a tough team. I'm a huge Packers backer,
love them, I'm their fan GM I like help them
make their decisions that I'm born in Chicago's That's a
whole little mini drama there, Lauren. But can they have
the talent? Their defense looked incredible. It's more like, can
they just be who they want to be, which is

(15:30):
working off the run game and you're looking at the line.
They've got Jamior Gibbs who literally looks, you know, like
he looks like he's in five X speed.

Speaker 5 (15:37):
He looks like he's he pops off.

Speaker 6 (15:39):
I was just at the Lions game watching Jamir Gibbs,
and this guy who had twenty touchdowns last year, he's
well on his way to like that this year. He's
probably the most exciting thing. So you're watching that game,
you want to be like Gibbs. Gibbs is the man,
and if he could run them to a win over
the Packers, Packers are in big, big trouble.

Speaker 4 (15:57):
Definitely. You talk about the Madden Gibbs is like it
is like that video game speed. He's got that video
game that effort, that video game style, play.

Speaker 6 (16:04):
He's unbelievable and yeah, he's got his X factor everything everything.
If it's not all out of ninety nine, I will
have to talk to Ochocinco on Thursday, do.

Speaker 4 (16:14):
A little assessment there. Love that, and that'll be a
fun one to kick it off. I feel like sometimes
people are easing into the day, but that'll be exciting
right off the bat for.

Speaker 5 (16:22):
Them is always iconic.

Speaker 6 (16:24):
And I will say, and I don't know if for
the girlies, if you don't like Jack White, I don't
know what's wrong with you. But Jack White from Detroit
of course white stripes. He's performing at halftime. So I'm
going to tune into that because he's an icon.

Speaker 4 (16:36):
There's so much to tune into. Let's take it to
the next game, the four thirty game. We've got Kansas
City Chiefs for Stallas Cowboys and other Thanks remainsday. These
aren't our same Chiefs this year. I feel like every
time you're like, oh, they're gonna win and they're going
to roll. And there's been some scary games this season.

Speaker 6 (16:53):
Uh yeah, but not not anymore. Not after what I mean,
did you see Lauren, did you watch.

Speaker 4 (16:58):
That last game? Yeah, that you're they're so inevitable. You're like,
if they have the ball, they're going to score, They're
going it. Just felt they're like they're going to do
it no matter what.

Speaker 6 (17:06):
Yeah, it feels like that's the word, that they're inevitable.
And on our broadcast on Thursday night, we will have
Tyrone Matthew, who's of course a Super Bowl champion former
chief knows Andy Reid, knows Mahomes how they prepare, and
he's made such an emphasis on how they plan on
like situational football more than everybody, Like they're harping on
these weird little vibes that might happen. So I really

(17:30):
think that they're just gonna roll now I do. Cowboys
looked so good. George Pickens working his way into I'm
I the best receiver, not respector Jason Am I the
best receiver.

Speaker 5 (17:39):
He's definitely the best deep ball through us.

Speaker 6 (17:41):
If you're watching that game, you were watching for the
fireworks of George Pickens, just guy who we like rode off,
doesn't belong whatever, not a good, not a great, like
whatever drama was surrounding him and using the Steelers. They
let him go to the Cowboys and he is living
his best life ladies. He's absolutely thriving in this role.
So I just like that dynamic. If it'd be nice
if the Cowboys got in. Cowboys of course iconic on

(18:04):
Thanksgiving as well, But I think this is one of
those the Chiefs finally, what like maybe there's a complacency.
Think you know, when you like do something every day
and you're like it's kind of harder to get.

Speaker 5 (18:15):
Up for something. Yeah, that motivation or just it just
felt like they're sleepy.

Speaker 6 (18:20):
They're obviously losing these one score games until now, right,
but I love you a great game.

Speaker 4 (18:24):
That is gonna be another. Sometimes there's a game on
the Thanksgiving slate because it's always the lines and the
Cowboys and the opponent. It's like this isn't as exciting.
It feels like this this late is especially stacked for
the holiday this year.

Speaker 5 (18:35):
There's a huge, huge, huge implications.

Speaker 6 (18:37):
This Cowboys Chiefs game is like outside looking in, am
I in or out vibes, which is everything that you
want with your turkey and gravy.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
Totally. Yeah, we just want high stakes football and that
takes us to the evening game, the one you're on
the call for. So Bengals Ravens. There's a lot of
excitement in this one. I wanted to just touch on
the broadcast a little bit more and just tell us
more what what fans can expect if this is their
first time watching the Madden NFL cast. What does that
even mean?

Speaker 5 (19:03):
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 6 (19:03):
So it is EA Sports Madden cast, and this is
going to be like very unique energy. This is going
to be a different sort of vantage point. We're going
to be obviously like with the gamers, loving like what
Madden's all about. Obviously celebrating the legacy of John Madden
as well, which is really beautiful. And I do think
I was thinking about how excited I am and how

(19:24):
curious I am about all of the different roles in
this and using the skycam, which is.

Speaker 5 (19:28):
A very very cool and unique to Madden.

Speaker 6 (19:32):
It's really like what brings people together like football Madden
is that Madden is one of the last few things
that brings the entire lexicon together, like you play with
your friends. It's like very sort of inclusive in that way.
So we're welcoming people too who want to come and
check it out because it'll be amazing as well. But

(19:52):
I know it's exclusively on Peacock, which makes it cool.
The camera angle, Like truly, every other tweet I get
is can we get the quarterbacks the high sky camera angle?
We're giving it to you. We're very excited about that.
We're integrating, you know, Madden inspired graphics and getting to
see that over live action with expert analysis from a
Super Bowl champion from Ochosinka who gets to adjust ratings.

(20:15):
And that's where I come in. I just get to
be this curious little bumblebee running around the sidelines with
chadoh Chosinco. We're going to be like helping guys get
better Madden ratings. And if anybody out there in your
audience doesn't understand that that is like the number one,
It's like winning a super Bowl and what is my
Madden rating? Are these two things that like are the
goals of every player in the NFL in any game.

(20:38):
Nobody thinks they're Madden ratings good enough, No player, They're
all like, no, I deserve better, I'm faster, I'm better,
I'm at catch, radius is better, all of these things.
So we get to sort of I get to be
like a gift giver on Thanksgiving. I'm so excited about that.
So it's the perfect blend. It's storylines. I'll bring that
on field insight. The Madden Expertise is into Camp miss

(20:58):
event on Madden.

Speaker 4 (21:00):
It's so cool and I really love the way like
bringing Madden bringing people together because for me, I think
it's an educational opportunity to when you're playing the game
you get to look at the different routes that wide
receivers are running, like it's such an educational experience. So
did know all these insights that are going to be
part of the broadcast. I'll definitely be two to again.
It sounds cool.

Speaker 5 (21:16):
Yeah, we did it last year.

Speaker 6 (21:17):
We did it last year, Lauren, and it was like
very cool, interactive new it was fresh and I always love,
I would say, like complimenting the traditional broadcast with something
a little bit dynamic, and that's what we have here.
I mean Chatto, Josinko, Tyrone, Matthew, Kurt benkirt Is, like
I just talked to him this morning. Such a wizard
when it comes to Madden. And if you're not a

(21:39):
Madden fan, like what you're saying from an educational perspective.

Speaker 5 (21:41):
Please come watch watch with me.

Speaker 6 (21:43):
I don't know everything there is to know about you know,
how to use the safeties and what. But I love
the real time on field insights that we're going to
get in a really special way here with the Madden
the cast.

Speaker 4 (21:54):
Definitely, I love that so much. And let's talk about
the game storylines. We've got Joe Burrow coming back. That's
what everybody's been waiting for. He just posted, I know,
on his Instagram story that picture of like He's back,
He's coming back? Is that the storyline? Are we looking
at that? This Ravens team, that slow start, There's just
so much to watch out for in this one.

Speaker 5 (22:11):
Ravens the second half team. They're going to be.

Speaker 6 (22:13):
I think that the AFC should be scared of them.
It's such a fun, wide open AFC. It's not the
Chiefs are not at the top right now, right and
if they lose that game, it's anybody's ballgame and the AFC.
So it'll be so fun to see between these two
two teams that know each other so well.

Speaker 5 (22:29):
Joe coming back, I think it's a little wild.

Speaker 4 (22:31):
Yeah, I don't know, well with.

Speaker 6 (22:33):
The wild and wild Turkey with that one, I don't
I don't quite know what the thought is there, except
he wants to play, and he is there. He is
their guy, and maybe they can do some damage. I'm
not sure, but I mean, obviously the real store here is.

Speaker 5 (22:46):
Just these toes.

Speaker 6 (22:47):
They've got two toe injuries, one turf to on ones.
I don't know exactly what it is for Lamar on
the other side, but from like a pure viewing experience,
even with Madden, like, there is no more fun player
than Lamar Jackson Derek Henry on that side, and their
defense has looked great as well. Kyle Hamilton's okay, So
I'm excited about that. Yeah, Joe Joe, Like, should Joe

(23:07):
be playing, We're going to see that. Should he be
playing on Thanksgiving night? He is, So it'll be great
to see and it'll be high scoring, Lauren, because this
defense is not I'm not that excited about this Bengals defense.
I love the Bengals, who the nation, I love you,
but they're gonna have to score a lot to keep
up with what the Ravens are going to do to
that defense.

Speaker 4 (23:26):
That's after like a full day of eating and desert.
You need high scoring to keep people awake, like we
need we need touchdowns at the end of the day,
at the end of the Thanksgiving start in.

Speaker 6 (23:34):
General hate But there's a whole crowd, Lauren, that's like
this NFL crowd that like looks down their nose and
there's defensive, low scoring games or so No, they're not,
they're not great.

Speaker 5 (23:43):
You're lying, you're lying.

Speaker 6 (23:45):
We like points, We like explosive plays for Madden and
for real life.

Speaker 4 (23:49):
I love it. Yeah, we want high scoring. That's what
we want to see. Touchdowns. And before we have you go,
this has been awesome to hear your NFL insights and
everything you mentioned. How wide open it is. It seems
like I feel like every week at the g just
when we're planning out our NFL stories, we're like, is
any team good? Is everyone bet? Like we're just it
seems so wide open this year. It's it's too early

(24:11):
for this question, but I am going to ask you,
because we have you here, what is your super Bowl prediction?
I just the matchup at least, who do you think
is going to be there?

Speaker 1 (24:18):
Then?

Speaker 4 (24:19):
Knowing the race is so wide open this season.

Speaker 5 (24:21):
Like my super Bowl teams.

Speaker 4 (24:23):
Yes, I'm so sorry about you on the spot.

Speaker 5 (24:26):
Let me really think.

Speaker 6 (24:27):
Here Rams okay and I like it. Okay, here comes
the Eagles legals, I love you, but like, I just
feel like the Rams are unstoppable, complete and healthy. And
Matthew Stafford has had two interceptions, That's all I can say.
Him and Devanta, Adam and Ams are in lockstep, and
I think it'll be them in the in the NFC AFC.

Speaker 5 (24:50):
So I don't think it's the Chiefs, Yere. I don't
think it's the Chiefs, Yere.

Speaker 6 (24:55):
I'm going to say, But then who do I believe
in the Colts, the Ravens.

Speaker 5 (25:01):
They have just too tough Patriots. I feel like Drake
May's too young.

Speaker 4 (25:06):
I'm a fan, so I'm biased. I'm like, yes, Pat's
all the way, but he Drake By is very young.
I feel like this breakout yere has been fun.

Speaker 5 (25:13):
Actually, but why not?

Speaker 6 (25:14):
Then let's go Patriots free then Lauren Gosh Graham's Patriots, Drake.

Speaker 4 (25:17):
May, Matthew Stafford.

Speaker 6 (25:20):
That'd be crazy, the young versus the old, Vrabel versus
mcvaigh I like everything about that. That would be so insane.
I should say the bills, but they didn't even come
in my head. Does that means they didn't even pop
in my head? So yeah, let's go Patriots. Why not
let's just flip the Thanksgiving day table.

Speaker 4 (25:36):
Yeah, that's the gift to me, Thank you so much.
It's so true. The Bills usually their top of mind,
but this year it hasn't. They haven't been playing like.

Speaker 6 (25:43):
Super Bowl great though, I don't know what to like,
they've been there all. It could be anybody's ballgame. The Colts,
are you notice you cand of give you a sneaky
team to keep your on.

Speaker 5 (25:52):
Just the Texans? Okay, wows we talk about the Broncos.

Speaker 6 (25:56):
Deveen say, Broncos could easily go to Gosh, it's too hard,
it is.

Speaker 5 (26:00):
It's hard question me.

Speaker 6 (26:01):
I think it's very interesting right now because I do
believe in the NFC it's the Rams and everyone else
and Eagles aren't part of that right now, like especially
now for this last week that Cowboys game Banana, it's
like the craziest game I've ever seen. But I really
think it's the Rams and everybody else. And in the
AFC it's like which Thanksgiving dish is best? Let's have
an argument that's.

Speaker 4 (26:22):
So true, wide open, it's anyone's table, it's anyone spread,
it's anyone's ball game. Are you going to watch mad
and cast Lauren, Yes, we'll be tuning in. I might
have big screen and like double screen gets.

Speaker 6 (26:34):
Out there traditional game and then like just just tune in.
It'll be exclusively on Peacock. We are so so excited.
You want to be like ahead of the curve, everybody,
just like with what's going on. Like and by the way,
like I'll adjust Madden ratings. You want to see some
happy NFL players. Tune into that broadcast.

Speaker 4 (26:50):
That's the one. We'll put all the dats in the
show notes so people can know where to watch on
how to tune in. Thank you so much for your insights.
This has been awesome. Happy Thanksgiving. We can't wait to
watch you on the cast this year.

Speaker 5 (27:00):
Let's do it.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
That was such a fun conversation. I feel very prepped
for today.

Speaker 3 (27:13):
What a legend.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
Two legends you could say, two.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
Thank you, thank you.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
And now it's time for our personal training sessh. This
is the segment of the podcast where we do want
you to get involved. We want to answer any of
your questions that you have about anything in the sports
world or amplify perhaps.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
A hot take that you have.

Speaker 1 (27:35):
Yes, and today's personal training sesshon comes from the Just
plus in our discord and a lot of conversation happening
around Olympic swimmer Penny Alexiak. Penny, for those who are
not familiar, is Canada's most decorated Olympian and she really
came on the scene in the Rio twenty sixteen Olympics

(27:58):
and that's where she won the majority of her medals
and has been around for a long time since then.
I wouldn't say she's the number one swimmer in Canada
right now. That would go to Summer Macintosh, as I'm
sure we all remember whether you're American or Canadian from Paris,
but Penny Alexiak is banned from competition until twenty twenty
seven for an anti doping violation, and there again has

(28:21):
just been so much conversation over on the discord and
some asks for Steph and I to basically chat through
what this situation is in the personal training Session segment
of the pod.

Speaker 2 (28:34):
And I'm so glad that we're talking about it in
this section because if we weren't, I was going to
use it for my call in audible because when immediately
when it came out, I had so many questions in
terms of what does this all mean? So we're going
to break down exactly what happened here. So, in short,
the twenty five year old was penalized for a whereabouts
failure by the World Anti Doping Agency or WADA, wada wada.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
What do you say?

Speaker 1 (29:00):
What do you mean? Okay? And I think the biggest
thing SEF with this Penny Alexiac and the banning is
that your scrolling on social media and all you see
is Penny alexiak ban for anti doping or performance enhancing
drugs or whatever. But when you actually dig into it,
that is not what happened here. I think the way,

(29:22):
the most simple way that I would break this down,
there were a couple admin airs. Penny was potentially not
updating the Google calendar, Penny wasn't necessarily getting notifications from
who she needs to get notifications from, and as a
result of the admin wasn't in the right places at
the right time to do the testing that was needed,
and as a result, has been banned for two years.

(29:44):
So to me, this is less of a she did
a bad thing. This is more of a we just
might not have been organized around this, and I can
appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
And as a result of all of that, I've learned
so much about this process and how much these athletes
have to go through the expectations and is constant on
these folks, and I learned what a where about failure is.
So as a part of the Anti Doping Agency's drug
testing program, athletes are required to submit their whereabouts every

(30:19):
ninety days a lot, including the location in times of
daily activities like work and school, their competition schedules, and
a specific daily time slot where they are guaranteed to
be available for testing. That is such a massive level
of i'll call it surveillance that I had no idea

(30:40):
they were subject to.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
And what's interesting too, STEPH, is that these athletes must
ensure their information is accurate, complete, submitted on time, and
if it isn't. WATA basically employs this three strike system,
So any three combinations of filing failures or misstests within
a twelve month period could result in a two year ban,

(31:02):
and so athletes can update their whereabouts within that ninety
day period if their location changes, but it is strict,
and I do think that part of the reason why
they wanted to make it strict is that swimming has
the potential to take advantage of drugs just given the
nature of the sport. I think something like cycling, for example,

(31:25):
has a very kind of similar idea because they're really
trying to stop doping in these sports. We have that
wild new tournament what's it called the Enhanced Games coming out,
and a bunch of swimmers are participating in that, and
so these measures are in place for a reason, and
we're not saying that these measures should change. I just

(31:46):
think in this world of social media clickbait, you're not
actually reading the story. Penny Alexiak here is not taking
performance enhancing drugs. Penny Alexiak is and has not during
that twelve month window submitted all of this information the
way that she should have.

Speaker 2 (32:07):
I really appreciated when the just posted on Instagram the
graphic did very clearly include the notation about the whereabouts failure,
because at first my initial reaction for an anti doping
violation is to assume that she was that this means
she was doping, when it's not. And then that's when
I learned what a whereabouts failure actually is.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
And we should say too, I think that it's a
from the WATA perspective or way to but I think
it would be WATA from their perspective. I could also
see Steph, if you're not getting that information from the athlete,
then do they have something to hide? Is it therefore
okay to assume, Okay, there might be some testing, there
might be some drugs or what have you. But Penny

(32:49):
Alexiak over the years has actually posted on Instagram about
some of these things and has been transparent in her case,
I guess you could say, or in her journey, as
she's been kind of working through these things, and so
I feel like we can trust her on this side
of things. I think the good thing in all of

(33:10):
this is that she accepted the band she fell on
her sword. Good for her. She is going to be
eligible to compete in July twenty twenty seven, which means
that's plenty of time to take part in the swimming
trials ahead of the twenty twenty eight LA Olympics. I
think we don't know, and I don't know if Penny
Alexiac would know if she would actually make the Canadian

(33:31):
team for twenty twenty eight or not. It's so competitive,
but she will have that opportunity.

Speaker 2 (33:36):
Or maybe she doesn't want to. Who knows that's a possibility.
Maybe maybe this is a sign that perhaps and again
the correcting that she's just over it.

Speaker 3 (33:46):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
That's also part how I'm reading it.

Speaker 1 (33:48):
I should also say I have moderated a panel or
two with Penny Alexiak and so I am biased.

Speaker 4 (33:54):
She is great.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
I've realized I don't have it. Yeah, I've really enjoyed
all of my conversations with her, and so she is
a friend of the gist. So I also feel like
a little bit of a big sister here. But I
do feel.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
That's why I was so upset with the way that
people were using this for clicking. Yes, not because I
met her, but because of course I am biased because
I am Canadian.

Speaker 1 (34:17):
Yeah, clickbaits clickbait too. We need to stop anyway. If
