(00:00):
I've been a Christian, a professing Christian my entire
life, really. I was raised in it.
But it wasn't until September 11th, 2024, at 36 years old that
the soil was right, you know, towhere he was planted.
And he began to give the increase in water.
And what it, what I saw is that I was that person that was at
(00:21):
the foot of the cross who heard the message, who knew who he
was, but I was mocking him, you know, like that's the way I was
living my life. Like I know who you are, but
Nah, you know, so and it, it hitme very, very deeply.
And from that point on, we've been on a totally, totally
different journey. Welcome to the Intertwined Life
(00:44):
podcast. I'm your host, Jenny Zenz.
I am a wife and a mom on a mission.
I've got a passion to help womendiscover practical ways to apply
the power of God's Word to our everyday stuff.
I truly believe that our walks with the Lord should be
seamlessly intertwined with our everyday lives.
It should affect every move we make and every breath we take.
(01:06):
So come on, let's do life together.
You've got this because he's gotyou.
All right, So good morning. This is good morning to us.
I mean, everybody listening may not be morning, but for us it's
it's early this morning, but we are on episode 3 of from my
(01:28):
podcast Intertwined life doing the series of encouraging the
way. This is episode 131 of the
podcast, but Part 3 of the Encouraging Encouragement for
the Way series that we're doing that is especially designed for
our Get Fit initiative at Rock Harbor Church in Melbourne
Beach, FL. So whether these are podcast
listeners who are not local or locals, who are not part of our
(01:48):
church or part of our church only becoming because they're
part of our church, whatever it is, everybody's welcome.
I'm glad everyone's here and this morning I'm excited to have
this conversation with Jamie andJohn Henry Price, and we're
going to be talking with them about just the role of faith and
its impact, the spiritual healthimpacting all areas of our life,
not just like the little Jesus section, right?
(02:11):
How it really goes into everything.
So glad you guys are here this morning.
Why don't you open up and share a little bit about who you are
and what brought you to this point in your life a little bit
and we'll get rolling from there.
Ladies 1st and no. OK.
Go first. Well, the past a year and four
(02:33):
months has been quite the journey.
So September 11th of 2024, I waslistening to a podcast on the
Sean Ryan show of all things. It was a guy being interviewed
by the name of Victor Marx and he had a testimony on there that
was really remarkable. His life as a child is something
that would have come out of a horror film, if not worse.
(02:56):
But he said something in there. It just like it struck me very
deeply. And this is where the whole
change began. And, and what he had said was he
was, he had prayed, he had a psychologist had asked him, hey,
like because of your childhood, where was God in all this?
(03:17):
Like, how could you, how could you possibly believe in a God
that would allow this to happen to such a young child?
And he he had didn't have the courage to pray that for about
two years. And finally he's like, all
right, I'm going to pray and ask.
He had a vision. And in that vision, he sees
himself strapped to the bed and he's got his step dad wrapping a
belt around his fist. He's getting ready to beat him.
(03:39):
But Jesus is also in the room and he sees Jesus and he's like
touch his heart, stop it, make him go away, Take Me Out, do
something like kill him, do something.
And Jesus just laid on top of him and took the beating with
him. And that struck me so deeply.
And like the way I described is my world fell apart and was
(04:00):
built together all at the same time.
And I, like so many things started to go through my mind
very rapidly. You know, I was, I was the
person that was professing to bea Christian.
Cause I've been a Christian, a professing Christian my entire
life really as Leno since I was raised in it.
But it wasn't till September 11th, 2024, at 36 years old that
(04:23):
the soil was right, you know, towhere he was planted.
And he began to give the increase in water.
And what it, what I saw is that I was that person that was at
the foot of the cross who heard the message, who knew who he
was. But I was mocking him, you know,
like that's the way I was livingmy life.
Like, Oh, I know who you are, but Nah, you know, so in my
(04:47):
disobedience and in my sin, we got a dog coming up here, a
person mocking Christ on the cross.
And it, it hit me very, very deeply.
And from that point on, we've been on a totally, totally
different journey. And he's and he's put wonderful
things in our lives, people, experiences and just has begun
(05:10):
to change. And I would say that that would
just be evidenced by the fact that we're on this podcast on
the US has joined us because you've seen a change in the past
year. Like we're, we've known you for
a while, but why is it this pastyear that you have changed?
And so hopefully, it bears fruit.
Yeah, it's it's tears. I should have brought tissues.
It has been amazing. And we've never, you know, that
(05:32):
the four of us, my husband and and you 2, we've never really
been that close. We've known each other.
We've had a few short conversations, but for years now
we have set kind of across from each other at church.
And like you said, the fruit, the evidence and the spirit, the
presence on you 2 and your family over the last year and a
(05:54):
half or two years. It's been 2 year and a half.
September 24th right has been soclear and so clear all the these
details I've noticed, like how you 2 sit together, how John
Henry's Bible is marked and wornand there and how your kids are
(06:18):
your kids are even there's a a more of a calm spirit on your
children. And I don't mean that in a bad
way, but I can. I can, you haven't.
Noticed that one? You haven't noticed that one?
I can see it like there's just this sense of your family that I
have noticed and without really talking to you, and I know that,
you know, it's you, your name has been brought up off and on,
(06:41):
you know, in conversations with staff or whatever, because
everyone hasn't noticed this walk and this change.
And you've been more engaged andmore involved and more like deep
in your study. And there's been so many clear
aspects of your whole life that are being impacted.
And we all knew it was right around that point.
And I'd never heard that story. So that's amazing.
(07:04):
And I know that then you was it shortly after that you went to
the men's retreat and then like just continuing from there.
And I think at the men's retreatis when some others knew, hey,
John Henry has had an encounter, you know, And so that's when I
guess I started hearing about it.
And the more I just was around you guys could see you guys.
(07:24):
It's just clear. It's just clear and it's
awesome. And it's not like, I mean, you
say it for yourself, put it in your own words, but clearly it's
not like, oh, because I'm so holy and, you know, pious that
I, this is all over me. You're just, you were, you're a
dude living life, you know, and then bam, that encounter with
Christ. And so talk about how that has
(07:46):
poured into one. What did you do from there when
you heard that? And you're like, OK, I got to
make a change. Well, then what?
What were the practical steps? And then how is that flown into
or overflowed into the other aspects of your daily life,
Jamie? Might be able to tell you a
little bit about that, but I wasdriving home late at night from
a trip when I heard that and I could hardly drive I was crying
(08:10):
so hard. So what was your reaction when I
came home? It was late and I was in bed.
I think it was around 11:00. So I was, you know, getting
ready to go to sleep. And he just came in and I
remember he was kind of teary eyed.
So I was like, uh oh. Like what happened, you know, is
(08:31):
everything OK? And he was.
He was bawling. Almost.
Like, oh, crap. Like I remember he just laid
down next to me. He was just crying.
I was just like kind of caressing his head, like, all
right, well, you know, when you're you feel.
And then he had kind of talked about the podcast and I just
(08:52):
remember the conversation of, you know, he, we ask of him
something along the lines of we ask of him to do things, but
really he's just there with us through it.
So after that, I actually listened to the podcast too, and
I would highly recommend it. It's very, it's pretty graphic
(09:15):
visual, which I like, but it's very, it's moving for sure.
And it does show that, you know,we ask of God to do these things
for us, to move mountains for us.
And maybe that's not what we need at that time.
And, you know, similar to VictorMarx, like he's asking him to
take this guy down, just, you know, you have the power to kill
(09:36):
him. Why not?
And really, it's not about that. It's about we go through these
experiences and Christ is there with us the whole time.
Yeah, so good. So to answer the question, so
after that, it was really the Lord said, just put things in
our lives. So I, I began just waking up
early and, and reading and praying, you know, and then Pam
(10:07):
Bress came to the church and spoke about ways and I went to
Victor Mark's book and he was like, you know, encouraging men
to go do work. So it's like, all right, let's
go do work. And that was just an amazing
opportunity to go do that. And then through somebody at
Waze, I met somebody else who has become a dear friend of ours
and a wonderful mentor and has helped us out tremendously.
(10:31):
And we're, let's see, we're bothextremely thankful for this man
who has just been a a wonderful teacher and somebody that I've
never met any, I've never met orseen anybody like him, just a
yielded A yielded Christian. That's good.
(10:52):
Unpack that a little bit. What do you mean by that?
What are the? What do you see practically?
I think the church will meet himone day.
His name's Wayne. He's a man that once you meet
him or when you meet him, you know, he has a troubled
background too, But his knowledge of the Lord and
(11:19):
knowledge of just the way he speaks, you know, you feel it's
kind of one of those things where you just can't explain it
in words. It's feeling it's, it's, it's a
spirit around him and he has it.And, you know, the more you
learn about him, you're like, wow, you know, he's been through
(11:42):
it. He's seen some stuff.
Very different background from what Johenry and I grew up in,
what Melbourne Beach is all about.
Probably most of the people, andthis is, you know, assumptive,
but at Rock Harbor have been through and he is, he's a true
servant. Yeah, he's got he's he's full of
spirit. He has an authority to him.
And but that was just put in ourlife, you know, and that's it's
(12:06):
one of the things and and Jamie struggled with some pretty
serious anxiety. That was a real, real battle for
all of like November, December, beginning of January of dusk 24
going to 25 and it's. A real rough time.
(12:26):
I laugh about it now because I think back to it and I'm like,
how was I ever that way? And similar to John Henry, like
I just didn't have Lord first inmy life.
I had another false idol that I worshipped and just didn't
really have meaning to, you know, what was given to us or
what our blessings were or no one.
(12:48):
I was relying on myself. So silly to think that now and
it's so ignorant to think that we can, we can do things on our
own. And so that was given light to
me then. And you know, looking back, I
always think like how how peoplestruggle so much and we will all
(13:10):
struggle, but how we struggle somuch and think that we can, we
can do it, we can overpower it. It's just silly.
Yeah, like fighting the wind, right?
Yeah, so, so true. So what what happened after
that? So we've had those like a series
(13:30):
of events, right? So we have That was Christmas
that we met Wayne. Christmas Day, old lone panic
attack day. It was not.
Not a wonderful Christmas, but also a wonderful Christmas.
Yeah, great. That's interesting because, you
know, I'm a pretty joyful, joking, outgoing person.
(13:52):
And I just remember that day, like I was pacing, crying, you
know, we're, we're trying to open gifts for the boys and
there's just nothing there. You know, it was just empty.
I was basically just like, am I gonna full grown panic here?
Am I? You know what's gonna happen?
(14:14):
And we actually went to Helen's house for a luncheon that
someone through ways had invitedto Henry.
I was going to go meet this gentleman.
And my sister was in town. We took the boys.
And I was just, I was very tearful.
You know, I probably met these people and had no joy in me.
(14:36):
It was just like, you know, kindof going through the motions of
life. A lot of us do, you know, we
kind of check off the boxes. OK, I'm here and made it.
You know, what do you need from me?
I'll do the bare minimum. And that's kind of how I think
we were going through life. You know, John Henry's
(14:57):
definitely been more in the word, a stronger Christian than
I have been. You know, I grew up Baptist,
Catholic, but similar. You know, we checked the boxes
as a family. You know, we went to church
sometimes, you know, we didn't have a church family.
My parents, you know, weren't really into it.
So I didn't grow up like knowingthe Bible, knowing the word,
(15:18):
knowing God. So just kind of going through
the motions, checking the boxes. And as you, you know, you grow
older, you see experiences and that's what it's about, you
know, seeing these people that struggle, they're here, this is
their Christmas. You know, we just, we take for
(15:39):
granted what we have. And one thing that I do remember
from that day is our boys, you know, they, they knew I was
going through something and theytook it with grace there.
You know, they've never met these kids.
So Helen's house, if you're from, so they have some kids
there, some moms there with someyounger kids.
And these kids were just amazing.
(16:02):
You know, they're living not in a home.
They've probably seen some things in their life that young
kids shouldn't see. And they're just so full of
life. You know, they wanted to play
with the kids. They're very thankful for what
they had. And our boys, I just remember
them being so graceful and open with it.
You know, they've never met these kids and they're just out
(16:24):
there playing with them. And I'm kind of just sitting
back, like, like I said, going through the motions, really,
really struggling that day. And then we met Wayne.
Yeah. Out of all places, yeah.
(16:47):
Yeah, so that's, I mean, that's the early part, right?
And then since then, it's reallyjust been, you know, seeking
episode prayer, reading the word, giving him the first
fruits of the day, like just trying to dedicate our lives to
him. And there's been many questions
throughout the year. You know, there's like times
(17:08):
you're like, all right, Lord, you kind of get into like
predestination or something, allright, like why, why, why do I
even, why am I even praying? Like you already know what's
going to happen. And then, you know, so there's,
there's these little challenges, which are wonderful because he
teaches you and all those things.
And so with that being a little bit of the past and we want to
talk about going forward, the thing that has become the most
(17:33):
evident would be just that our incapability of doing it
ourselves, right. And then Kevin spoke about it
this past Sunday. Just the the yielding, like
being a sacrifice and to like not mix the words with it.
(17:53):
Just put the scripture in it. It's Romans 12/1 and two he
says, I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God
that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy
acceptable to God, which is yourreasonable service.
And what we what we really fail to do.
(18:14):
I would I would say and that we could see is that we're very
soulish creatures, right we and that's that's the struggle for
John Price in 2026 is what is the discernment of what is of
you and what is of me because ifI have good intentions, if
(18:35):
they're good intentions of me, they'll fail right.
His will will endure and producefruit.
And so that's that's the hard part is all right.
Lord, look, I give it all to you.
Everything is yours, what is of you and what is of me.
(18:57):
And like, I almost feel bad saying it, but I do like, let's
not waste our time, you know? But he's the he's the author of
time and he's the father of the seasons and stuff.
So like, who am I to say any of that?
But he knows our limits. But I don't want to work of
myself at all. I don't want to like what you
mentioned just a couple minutes ago about being presumptuous.
(19:19):
If like thinking your higher mind like that's a that's not
good. Even if you what about this like
ministry, like just trying to dogood works, that can become a
false idol and you know you idolize the works, not the Lord.
Absolutely, absolutely all. These things are through these
traps. And we'd like to think of Satan
as like this super, you know, obvious dude.
(19:39):
But he's the master of deception, you know, and he's
very, very good at it. And he was an Archangel, you
know, like he knows. And he's clever and crafty.
Subtle. And subtle and so but you know,
inside of us there's a name that's higher than that that has
a greater than that. So tapping into the Spirit and
(20:04):
allowing the Holy Spirit to findexpression through us through a
position is the goal of of 2026 for being fit in faith is how do
I give it all to you? I want none of it to be myself.
I only want to pursue the will of the Father.
That's good. We'll talk about giving yourself
(20:25):
grace in that process because I get it.
I hear what you're saying. I totally get it.
And for those who are maybe at the beginning of this journey
and they're like, that sounds really spiritual.
Do you know what I mean? That sounds intense.
And I don't have a clue how to get there.
And the fact is we're we can seta trajectory.
(20:46):
OK, John Henry's a pilot and so we've all heard this
terminology, but he literally has lived this terminology.
Like, you know, we set a course, but if we are not constantly
making those tiny corrections, we're going to end up an
entirely different place than weintended.
And so it's not like we set a path and we just arrive right
with if they're a spiritual journey with our goals, whatever
that is. And so talk a little about
(21:07):
getting ourselves grace because we have to make those
adjustments as we go. And can you talk about that
process a little bit because I'msure you didn't start September
2024 and then never had a struggle or an issue or need to
course correct that whole time you?
Know anything you want to? Start with you want to tell us
about his issues? I think, you know, Joe Henry is
(21:32):
very hard on himself. And I think we do have to give
each other, everybody grace. You know, we, I always think of
this and this has been a very strong point for me in the past
year, is, you know, we are God'schildren, right?
And then think of for those of us that do have children, I
(21:53):
mean, how many times do we get frustrated with our children?
We tell them one thing, we lay it out for them.
We give them pointers and we say, you know, if you do this,
you know, whatever it may be, yet they don't do it.
They don't listen. They they are disobedient in
their ways. They think that they know that
(22:16):
they can do it on their own. And I think it's it's God's way
of saying, you know, that is me with you, that is you with your
children. And it's such an easy way to get
lost in it where you just want to take out your frustration
from your children. But God just continues to give
us grace, continues to give us mercy, continues to forgive us.
(22:39):
So that's a daily mantra I say to myself, like, all right,
Ruston, you're not listening. Or, you know, even if they're in
church and they're being heathens, that's, you know,
thinking we all do that. We all fall, we all get off of
our path. And I'll go back to kind of what
Kevin had talked about. I think it was in Ohio State
(22:59):
naturally past that, yes, in the, the neuro, how we create
these different paths, but basically that image of there's
so many different ways you all get there.
You know, when we will all get there, we might fall off that
path. We might have to repave it.
And to John Henry's point, you know, he was a Christian years
(23:22):
before, but we, we come back to Christ 'cause we fall off.
And I think the biggest, I thinkI'm probably a little bit, I
don't want to say better, but I do believe in Greece a little
bit more. Easier for you to receive that.
And understand, you know, I may not, you know, perceive that
(23:44):
way, but I think it's important, you know, and you know, just
reading the Bible, I started reading the Bible from the
beginning this year. And I mean, just the stories
that God puts in there. I mean, between Joseph and and
Moses and even Abram, I mean those men all did things that
were defeated or did not follow what God wanted them to do at
(24:05):
the time. But here they were, you know,
putting the seed in there for usand just giving us more grace is
is important and I think vital in your walk with Jesus.
I'm gonna say one thing real quick and I I know I know what
(24:25):
you meant. I know exactly what you meant,
but I just want to make sure foranyone listening because we're
at all levels here. When Jamie says there's all
these ways and we'll all get there, she's not talking about
all these ways to God. Jesus is the only way.
But what she is saying is that there are many ways of
sanctification, many ways on thejourney of once we accept
Christ, then the ways to experiencing the full life of
(24:48):
Christ right here, right now. There are so many different
paths and God takes each of us on a different journey.
And when she says we fall off the path, she doesn't mean we
fall out of salvation or out of,you know, we don't lose that.
But we can take wrong turns along our way once we've
accepted Christ in our journey to be more like him, to walk
with him. And we may get distracted and
find ourselves off over on this path.
(25:09):
And you're like, oh, shoot, he'sover there, you know, And so we
can always get back online on path there.
And so I know that's exactly what you meant.
I just wanted to be clear for anyone who's listening because I
know we're all coming from different backgrounds here, but
that is, that's so good, so good.
And I just, that's just true. I love how you bring in the
thing about your parenting because I am not saying that
(25:32):
anyone who's not a parent cannotunderstand the love of the
father or how he operates with us.
You totally can. But Oh my gosh, when you become
a parent, what you understand about what that means that he is
the good father and not only a father, but like so patient when
we just want to like, pull our hair out, you know, because
we're telling our kids the same thing for the fifth time.
(25:53):
And he's like, mm, hmm, how's itfeel?
It's hard, isn't it? And yet you, you know, you
choose, you know, your, your will takes you somewhere else.
And that's how we learn, though, you know, that's how we have
these experiences. And that's, you know, same thing
with the different paths, you know, our, all of us will take a
different, we'll suffer differently or do different
(26:17):
things differently, but that's what we're meant for.
You know God did all that on purpose.
And we're all able to speak to different people given our
journeys and our stories. So let me ask you this when you,
this is kind of twofold, when you started to realize, OK, I've
(26:38):
got to step more into walking with Jesus and not just sitting
here saying, I believe in Jesus. It's got to be part of my
everyday life. And you said you started reading
the Bible. So for people listening,
thinking, OK, that's what I need, but where do I start?
Like how did that look for you when you were like, OK, this is
a commitment. This is something I do every day
and and mold my days and my lifearound.
(26:59):
But how did you even decide where to start?
And then the second-half of thatquestion is, once you've started
to know Scripture and not just know that you believe in Jesus,
but then know the words written in the Bible, how did that
impact the way you walk in everyday life?
(27:20):
You're it tag, I'm it. Yeah.
All right. We are only saved through grace,
right? That's not.
I don't debate that at all. I have trouble accepting the
amount of grace that Jamie takes.
(27:40):
I don't deny it. I know it like I there's
nothing. It's only his grace that saves
us. But in in John 1421, Christ says
he who has my commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves
me. And he who loves me will be
loved by my Father, and I will love him and my and manifest
(28:01):
myself, manifest myself to him in Matthew 721 through 23.
Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord shall enter the
Kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father in
heaven, many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we
(28:25):
not prophesied in your name, cast out demons in your name and
done many wonders in your name? And then I will declare to them,
I never knew you depart from me,you who practice lawlessness.
These are the words of the Lord.Right.
And so there's a word that I learned at the end of in
(28:45):
December, and it was, I got it from a Tim Keller sermon that
Bill Clifton, he sent me, He's like, hey, check out the sermon.
Yeah, Tim. Keller.
This sermon, what I took away from it was this word, and it's
called antimony. And that basically means that
there's two separate things thatmay be seemingly opposite, but
they still reveal a a similar truth.
A very easy example of that is just the lion and the lamb,
(29:08):
right? Christ was the lion and lamb.
They're opposite, but they're the same truth.
That's good. So we demonstrate our love in
obedience. Now the if there was one thing I
would feel comfortable on speaking on, like I could always
speak on a testimony because I've experienced I don't like to
(29:30):
speak on anything because we're judged on what we say,
especially in a position of being a teacher, right?
So like I fear speaking, but if I speak from a testimony that I
can do or from an experience that I can do, the one thing
that I feel confident in speaking in is this.
It's that obedience is a measureof belief.
(29:55):
So if we were to look at every belief word we saw in the New
Testament, and we just thought of it as a what was our
obedience? And what our obedience looks
like as a measure of belief, it would change the statement.
For God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have
eternal life. OK, so now we said belief.
(30:17):
OK, well what does that mean? That's a measure of our
obedience. We can't warn around here
expecting Him to have an unlimited amount of grace.
He's a just God and He's a merciful God.
He demonstrated His justice by sending His Son to pay for that
sin, and He's demonstrated His mercy that He's merciful by
sending his Son to pay for that sin.
(30:38):
So there was a payment that was paid for our lives, and we are
His purchased possession. It's not free, it was paid for
and we are His purchased possession.
Have to be obedient. That's how we demonstrate our
belief. If you say you believe something
but you don't do it, you don't believe it.
So yes, there is grace. There's a ton of grace each and
(31:02):
every single day. But we have to do our part in
making our choice daily to die daily for Him, because we can't
do it. We have to yield each and every
single day. So good.
Where do we start? Yeah.
(31:23):
Oh yeah, we where do we start? Sorry.
OK. So so we start in prayer, OK,
Prayer is our altar. Prayer is where he does his
work. If we don't pray, we don't speak
to God. There's a book that I was
introduced to called the Spiritual Man by Watchman Knee.
It was recommended by Wayne was when's 1?
Is this one thing he likes to teach on?
(31:44):
I am not able to teach on this. This is not something that is in
my wheelhouse because I don't I don't have the revelation or or
the experience. So I'm I'm just not mature
enough to speak on this, but I'll just read the scripture.
This is for the word of God is living and powerful and sharper
than any 2 edged sword, piercingeven to the division of soul and
(32:07):
spirit and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the
thoughts and intents of the heart.
Now this is this is talking about being a sacrifice, right?
Like the sacrifices and where the word of God is living in
power, sharpening to a short piercing even to the vision of
soul and spirit. And if I was to read more at the
(32:28):
beginning and after part of that, it's just this is the Lord
performing a procedure on a Christian, but it's a sacrifice.
The sacrifice is put on the altar and prayer is our altar.
So we have to spend some time with him in order to get to know
him, you know. Yes.
And we've so he gives us his word, he gives us his
(32:51):
instructions, He gives us his playbook, He gives us his
promise. And it's all like right here,
right? But we take this and we take it
to prayer. We take his words and we take
him to prayer and let him do thework.
It's not us. It's not, it's not Pastor Kevin,
it's not you, it's not me, it's not any of us.
It's the Christ in us that does the work.
(33:13):
Absolutely so true. It's so that's another thing
that we just totally realized this year is like, you can't
like he is truth. He didn't ever go back on his
word when he was being, you know, he's under questioning
before he goes to the cross. You know, he stays quiet.
But anytime they asked him aboutwho he was, he would never deny
(33:33):
himself. And he doesn't do that in prayer
either. So like we can take this as like
our constitution. We take his words and we take
and when we take his words to prayer, he doesn't deny himself
and so you can in a way you can almost prophecy in prayer.
When you pray for somebody, he put it in your heart, you know,
(33:54):
he says work out your own salvation.
Here's this is what we this is how we do it.
Work out your own salvation withfear and trembling or it is the
will of God who works in you to will and to do for his good
purpose like work out your own salvation with fear and
trembling. Be in prayer, read the word, but
don't worry man, because he's with you, He's inside you, He's
(34:17):
to will and to do for His good purpose and He will teach you
and in His perfect way. There's nothing you could do
about it besides give it to Him.I want you.
I want to seek your face, Your face I will seek and then taste
and see that He is good. So.
(34:39):
That's so good. It's so good.
And that's Philippians 2, one ofmy favorite, one of my favorite
because 213 it is God who works in you to will and to do
according to his good purpose. Because if you read like you
were saying, the two things thatseem opposite, but yet have the
same truth, if you read the first part, work out your own
salvation. Oh, I've got work to do.
And then it says, but it is God.And so you'll wait.
(35:01):
What? And the cool thing is, and we're
not talking about work for salvation.
We're saying work it out, which is that sanctification process.
Keep getting closer, keep digging, keep letting God prune
things off of you, keep growing, keep searching, right?
But it is him, it is God himselfwho is the one who creates in US
the ability and the desire to dowhat he calls us to do.
(35:24):
And so I love what I call just putting the ball back in his
court because we feel like we'vegot all this work to do.
But then we read that there's freedom.
It's like, you know what, God, I'm going to show up.
I'm showing up. You are the one who has to give
me the desire and the will and the ability to grow and to do
what you desire me to do. And so there's so many other
(35:44):
Scriptures that complement that. But I do love that section
because while God's like, yeah, there's a part for you to play,
but I'm going to help you all the way.
I'm going to do it for you, yeah.
We're just his vessels, that's it, you know, for his work, what
we need to understand and all that to let Him do it is that
whole like we have to release, you know, He divides our soul
(36:07):
and spirit. Like we start trying to act of
our own volition. That's our soul.
No, it's got to be him LED and He'll change it.
He'll make you hate sin. He'll take sin away from you.
He'll take things away from you that maybe you don't even know.
There's sin that he'll take away, and he does it.
Exactly. And we don't have to worry and
be afraid of what He's going to want from us because as we draw
(36:31):
close to Him, He begins to line up our desires with His desires
and He changes our heart. He doesn't just strip things
away, He changes our heart. Lord shall not want because He
just want what He wants. Mm hmm.
Oh, it's so good and it's such ait it is it's those two
seemingly opposed things. I love that you brought that up
(36:53):
and Tim Keller's great, but it is such an interesting or was
great. It's such an interesting dynamic
of like caring, yes, push forward, but I'm going to create
your desire. I'm going to line you up.
I'm going to give you the want to.
I'm going to make it happen. I'm going to make it grow.
(37:14):
We just but it's that sacrifice of laying ourselves down right
to be open to that and. Oh, it's so good, It's so good.
And encouragement to younger believers and stuff too would be
and I I felt pray for this is early on.
He may give you a feeling of Hispresence.
(37:38):
Yeah, yeah. Go there.
Yeah. You'll be snotting and tearing
and be like. Oh babe, that's just you.
And I do I I'm a I'm a crier. I'm a I'll cry.
It's yeah, that's embarrassing. Something I.
Love it. But he'll give you this feeling
that he's with you, right? And then you're like, oh, he's
with me. But then he might take it away.
(37:59):
But that's good because he doesn't say the just walk by
feeling that I'm near you or no,no, he says I will never leave
nor forsake you even to the end of the age like the just walk by
faith. No and flake hold of the
confidence that he is there whenpeople feel like he is not near.
(38:19):
No, no, no, no, that's not what the word says.
It says he's always with you andeven when you feel that he's not
near, he's with you. Like he's so faith, faith.
But we get hung up on these feelings a lot, you know, and,
and Devin said this two weeks ago and I was so happy about it
because it's like like when you say I feel or I believe, or I
(38:40):
think those should be like hitting a warning horn and
lights going off and just be like, I'm listen, I'm going to
pay attention to what you're saying, but that's not the word
of. God, yeah, got to hold it to
each other, right? Yeah, because the word of God,
Yeah, exactly. Hold it to each other, right?
He says. Test all things and hold fast,
but it's good. But she said it too, like in the
(39:01):
Bible. It never says I think.
Ever. Yeah.
No, never. One time.
Which really struck me too. I was like, oh, you're right.
As humans, we're always like, well, I think this or I think we
should do it this way. Or if it were up to me, I think
we should do this. But if you read, you know, he
(39:21):
never says. I think he's.
Authority. Right.
Yeah, yeah, says it is. That's so good.
And that's one of the little like tag lines, if you will,
that the Lord gave me years ago that I have.
I just share and say all the time is that sometimes we had to
stand on what we know regardlessof how we feel.
And that is where knowing what the Bible says impacts the way
(39:43):
you walk, regardless of the feelings inside of us, the
thoughts in our head or what's going on around us.
Because if we can go back to thetruth and stand on the truth,
then our feelings, sometimes they line up, sometimes they
don't, You know what I mean? But because you know, if you
feel like he's not near and you don't feel anything and you feel
(40:04):
like he's left you, but you knowthat the word of God says I will
never leave you, forsake you, then you can say I feel this
way, but God, I know it's not true.
You know, and, and I've I've told people I've had seasons
before with, you know, the Scripture in Isaiah, those who
wait on the Lord will renew their strength.
And I've had long seasons, you know, like the dark night of the
soul, like the that just feelingof complete burnout and
(40:27):
exhaustion and spiritual. And yet I had a long time,
literally where every single morning I would open my Bible to
that passage in Isaiah and I would say, God, I don't feel a
thing. But your word says that if I
wait on you, I you'll bring in my strength.
So I'm waiting, you know, I likecross my arms and just sit
there. And because we know what it says
and when you know what it says. But if you don't, it is so hard
(40:49):
to walk through this life. It's so hard.
I mean, look at the Psalms and David, like an anointed 1.
You know, how it's such a close fellowship at times and
sometimes did it, you know, and it just begs and begs.
And I mean, those are great Psalms to pray in those seasons.
Yeah. Yeah.
And I, I love that, Like part ofwhat you're saying and what you
said earlier, you know, there's going to be questions, you're
(41:11):
going to read Scripture and we're going to see things that
we don't get that don't make sense.
Some of it, no matter what all the theologians think, right?
Some of it we may never really fully understand until we get
there. But I always think about like
algebra. I hate algebra.
And, and to me, like I made an Aon the class, but it was because
I crammed for the test and then I forgot it all.
(41:32):
But I never liked it. It never made sense.
But if I had bumped up against my questions and ran the other
way, I would have failed the class.
So when we're in scripture and we bump up against those
questions, instead of just goingthe other way, just press into
the material. Just press into the material.
And part of that is, you know, this divine design that no,
you're not going to understand everything.
(41:52):
But if you keep coming to me, even if you still don't figure
it out, we're going to have thisamazing connection and depth of
relationship that's going to continue to go, you know, and so
I, I love that, but. You said something, Jamie, Jamie
and I were reading this last night.
And John 9, the blind man that was born black.
I love that story. And it goes with what you just
(42:16):
said. You know, like even whatever, I
don't care what theologian you are.
There's things that if you experience, that's it.
You've experienced them. And when the Pharisees are
questioning them, he goes, his answer is whether he is a Sinner
or not. I do not know.
One thing I know that though I was blind, now I see you know
(42:37):
it's. Like mm hmm, Oh no, but this is
what happened. Then they push them some more,
and then he just comes back withthem.
He's like, Now this is the blindman speaking.
Now we know that God does not hear sinners, but if anyone is
the worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.
Since the world began, it has been unheard of that anyone
opened the eyes of anyone who was born blind.
If this man were not from God, you could do nothing.
(43:01):
They answered to him, you were completely born in sins and you
are teaching us and they cast him out, you know.
So this blind man, it was nothing but had one experience
is now teaching these Pharisees. You know, it's just remarkable.
That's encouragement too for others is guys like dedicate
(43:22):
yourselves to him, drawn dear tohim, He'll draw dear to you and
he will give you experience and he will teach you in his perfect
way. Don't worry or be intimidated by
others. We're all part of 1 body.
We're given different functions. If somebody preaches on
prosperity, if somebody preacheshell and brimstone, if somebody
preaches on grace, if somebody preaches on, you know, the
(43:47):
Calvary like it all they're all true.
Could be truce of the same truth.
They're different members of different bodies.
I'm not a Paul or of Cephas or of Apollo's, you know, like of
Christ. There's a lot of message, a lot
of content, a lot of truth to bespoken of.
(44:07):
And so if somebody this is one of the scary things like you get
on YouTube or you listen to different preachers and then you
start becoming of that person. Well, he said, he said.
And you'll close your ears to others and you're like, whoa,
guys, those are both tested. Yes.
Good test it, bring that Bible, test it and that could could be
totally true messages on both sides and they're just different
(44:29):
functions in the same body of Christ.
And like you're saying, test it.I mean, we have to never take at
face value what a human says because we're all human.
And knowing that if your faith is in Jesus, you have the Holy
Spirit in you. And John chapter 14, Jesus tells
us the Holy Spirit will teach you these things.
(44:50):
So you person who just walked inand accepted Christ last week
has just as much ability to dig into Scripture and have the Lord
reveal things to you as the pastor who's been teaching for
decades. But what you've got to do is
take what everyone says and yourthoughts and feelings and what
you think you understand, and just hold it against the word of
truth. And we're not going to get it
(45:10):
right all the time. We're not We're human.
We cannot fully understand and explain an almighty God like if
we think we can. My mom used to say, if I could
understand anything about God, he wouldn't be much of a God,
right? Like we're like this.
And so just keep digging. Just keep showing up.
Stay in his word, Have grace forwhen you get it wrong.
(45:31):
But also, like you're saying, don't just assume because
someone sounds eloquent or has been studying so much longer
than you have that they have it all right, Keep taking it back
to the truth, the word of God, you know, so good.
All right, guys, I'm going to I've got some wrap up questions.
But before I head into those, anything else just on this topic
(45:53):
about being fit in your faith and how like last words,
challenges, anything we didn't get to that you really wanted to
be sure you put out there? We love Him because He loved us
first. Never forget that.
(46:16):
If you're willing to accept Christ, it's because he loved
you first and he's interceded for you and prayed for you.
Accept that invitation because He wants you.
That's. Good.
That's a big deal. Yeah, for 2026, I'd say if
(46:37):
you're new, just keep showing up.
Yep, Yep, so true. Oh, that's so good, guys.
Thank you so much for doing this.
I'm so glad we did, but I'm so glad to just.
Oh, and I guess we should also say John Henry is newly elected
to the leadership team of Rock Harbor Church, right?
Yeah, Amazing, amazing. And another.
(46:57):
That's another fruit, right. All right, so let me ask you
guys the wrap up questions that I use for my podcast with every
interview I do. And I don't know if you've even
seen them. I may be just be totally
throwing you in the spot, but they're not hard.
Take your time. But my first question is do you
and you can answer this as a couple or individually.
Do you have a life verse or a verse that is especially
(47:20):
bringing you life right now is the.
One you printed, no. I have one.
Go ahead. Just for right now this
Galatians 220 and this has a lotto do with the book I'm reading
(47:42):
with the watchman knee the spiritual man.
But the verse is I have been crucified with Christ.
It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me and the life
which I now live in the flesh. I live by faith in the Son of
God who loved me and gave himself for me so good.
That is, that's the meditation all the time to have a deeper
(48:05):
understanding, acknowledge or wisdom of the profoundness of
that verse and the profoundness of Calgary, which is where it's
a foundation of all things for our religion and where the Holy
Spirit works from that foundation.
So good, so good. Mine is Romans 5.
(48:29):
So one thing I I struggle with, and I think I still struggle
with it, 'cause, you know, bad things happen to good people, we
all suffer. Why, Why, you know, why do
people die? Why do people get sick?
And so Roman 5 it says Romans 5.Three, we rejoice in our
sufferings knowing that suffering produces endurance and
(48:52):
endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and
hope does not put us to shame because God's love has been
poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been
given to us. So I always, you know, I always
told you how you're like, we will suffer.
There's no doubt about that. It's just knowing that our
(49:15):
suffering produces something in everybody for the game.
Yeah, nothing's in vain, yeah. Things work together pretty
good. Those who look up.
Yeah, so good guys. So what is Do you have a
practical tip? It could be funny, it could be
serious, whatever. But a tip you would give people
(49:37):
about how to intertwine their walks with the Lord and their
everyday lives? Start with Him before you feet
hit the ground. Thank you Lord Jesus for
sustaining me in my sleep. And start your day with Him.
If you don't start, if you don'ttake.
Pick up your cross daily and carry it.
(50:00):
You're going to get trapped. You're going to get lost.
We need Him, we can't do it. So just start with the Lord.
If that's 5 minutes of your day in the beginning, take that.
And I bet you if you give that 5minutes, that's going to turn it
to seven, then 15, then 25, thenthen you need to be like 2 1/2
hours. Then you're not going to want to
get away from it 3:30 in the morning so they have your time
(50:20):
cut. Yeah, yes.
And it's, it's that taste in C, right?
We can't crave something we've never tasted, but once you start
tasting that, you want more and you want more and you want more.
Start your day with Jesus and I'll carry you through it.
Give it all in. Yes, so good.
I would echo that, you know, start just pray about
everything, you know, as no matter what I do, you know, So I
(50:45):
find myself now just praying about it or thanking the Lord or
asking the Lord for grace or everything I do, whether it's in
work, life, kids, marriage. All right, Lord, you know, we
have visitors. Lord, give me grace for this
day. Give me the strength.
Give me your strength. Give me your humility.
(51:06):
Give, you know, help me be Christ like so that I can, so
that you can get me through thisday.
Yes. Yeah.
So good. So if people listening,
especially our Rock Harbor family, if they wanted to
connect with you first, are you on the socials or anything like
that? Not really.
(51:29):
I yeah, I have a Facebook, but Idon't really go on to it.
Don't worry, that's good. I walked away a long time ago
and now I have Susie Boliver doing social media for me for
the podcast. So I haven't touched social
media in years, but all of a sudden I'm popping up all over
it and I'm like, I'm not really on social media.
(51:50):
And the other day Jolie was like, yes, you are like, well.
Susie's on. There for me.
I don't even know what she posts.
Sometimes I'll send her a message.
I'm like, hey, could you do something with this episode?
She's like, oh, I did that yesterday.
Like, oh, yeah, good for you. That's so funny.
I know I could be a lot. So yes, but we are, we are
(52:10):
definitely a open door house. Yeah, come over.
Yeah. You're addressing.
I'm just don't know. Whether they're in person
people, so. That's awesome.
Yeah, none. I haven't had it for a long
time. So like but I have a cell phone
number and e-mail. There you go, there you go.
And you know what? I think that the great thing is
if I'm, I'm assuming if anyone'slistening, especially part of
(52:33):
our church and they're like, hey, I feel like I can connect
with those people. I feel like they could help me
on my journey and I'd like to get to know them more.
I'm assuming you're open to thatA. 100%, yeah.
Awesome. So anybody listening, you know,
if you're a part of Rock Harbor Church and you're like, hey, I
really want to connect with JohnHenry and Jamie, one or the
other, let me know. My e-mail address and all my
(52:53):
stuff is all in the notes. But Jenny at jennyzens.com or
Jenny at rhfl.org, either one ofthose and we can definitely
connect you and start you just on this journey just doing life
together. That's what it's all about.
If you hear that word, discipleship or spiritual
formation, just doing life together, following Jesus
together is what it's all about so well.
(53:15):
Thank you guys so much for beinghere today.
I really, really appreciate it. Appreciate it.
Hey friend, if you enjoyed this episode and you got some good
stuff out of it, there's a few options.
You have 1, you could click thatlittle subscribe button.
And also, if you would review this podcast, Oh my gosh, if you
(53:37):
like what you heard, get on there.
Give it a five star review. If you didn't like what you
heard, just pretend it never happened, OK?
But if you would do a review forme, just take a couple seconds
and do that. Not only would I be crazy
excited, but also it would just be a great way for us to partner
together, for you to help podcast be seen by more women
(53:58):
out there, and you could be a part of helping more women
discover these practical ways toapply God's Word to just
everyday stuff. So I would love it, love it,
love it if you could help me outin one of those two ways.
