The only thing that could stop Elvis Costello in 1979 was himself. So he did. Crawling from the wreckage of an unfortunate scandal, he and his band made a curious document, 1980’s GET HAPPY!! Costello’s fourth album was propelled by the runaway train of his band, the Attractions. It was a musical romp of classic soul vibes but a lyrical tangle of wordplay and mea culpa.
