First published in 1909, The Occupant of the Room by Algernon Blackwood tells the story of a schoolmaster on vacation in the Swiss Alps. While seeking a room at the local inn, he is initially turned away, as there are no vacancies. Sort of. The innkeeper offers him a room that was previously occupied by a missing hiker. You’ll have to keep listening to find out the rest.   Blackwood’s story is creepy and atmospheric—and is best listened to in the dark.
