We're here to have fun, yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
All right, welcome
back to another podcast of the
Scotchy Bourbon Boys.
Back to another podcast of theScotchy Bourbon Boys.
Tiny is here and we've got MattLysen in the house tonight.
Let's just see what just I'vegot to fix this real quick.
(02:37):
Matt is from Cleveland on theRocks, a fan of the podcast, but
also what would you say?
Not just a what just keepshappening there we go.
All right, I got comments up, Igot Matt up, I got everything.
Welcome, matt.
Good to have you on tonight, good to have you.
(02:59):
Matt.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
How's everybody doing
.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
I'm excited about
this podcast because one
tomorrow, roxy and I are comingup by you, and so going up by
you it's Cleveland in the Rocks.
Everybody if you're listeningto this and you listen to this
know that between 12 and 2o'clock it would be my guess
we'll be going live from Matt'splace or somewhere in Cleveland,
(03:28):
because I never know what Matthas planned.
I know he's got some things inhis sleeve.
I'm not sure they're up thereyet, but the sleeve's open right
.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
It is it is.
I'm waiting to hear back.
I got a couple of hits out.
We'll be, going somewhere, I'mjust not sure where.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Yet and also we got
Roxy.
So I would say there's a reallygood chance that we got our
designated driver, no matterwhere we go, Even if she's going
to be designated.
For I want to get, I need tohave enough food, as you talked
about me and you talked about, but that's one thing we should
talk about.
I don't know, Do you go to many?
Have you been going to manyconcerts lately?
(04:06):
I know CT goes to it and SuperNash what's your concert?
Kind of thing.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
We haven't been to a
concert this year yet.
I'm going to see Mike Jones inthe summer.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Mike Jones and
Genuine and I'm going to the old
school 90s rap concert.
It'll be fun.
At the Lake Erie Captain'sStadium.
That'll be fun.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
But where you're at,
there's a lot of concerts that
are available to you, right?
I mean, you live really closeto Brook Park and Brook Park
actually has the whole Hard RockCafe thing going on there,
right?
Speaker 3 (04:43):
They do in downtown
Cleveland as as uh as that and
uh rock and roll hall of famesright down there.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
So I mean all the
concerts that happen down here,
usually down in cleveland.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
You're either at the
q brown stadium or, uh, the
outside venue.
So there's a couple outsidevenues where they have them yeah
, there's a lot of concertplaces right around here yeah,
for sure, for sure.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Plus, there's always
Blossom.
It's not too far from you, that's like right in between us.
That's an outdoor venue, it'sjust.
You know, it's what you like.
But you know, I always findthat going to a concert is, you
know, a blend.
You know what I'm saying.
What I'm saying you have toreally be good at how you
(05:28):
consume beverages.
One always with a concert.
I think it's really good tohave a designated driver, or you
rent a limo or a bus or you doUbers or whatever, but the
concert I believe ACDC probablywon't be going on till eight,
nine o'clock.
(05:49):
You know what I mean.
So that's a whole day ofpartying and and you've it's
basically a lot of fun leadingup to it.
But you don't want to be.
It's the same thing with likefor me, with a packer game or a
Browns game or whatever.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
It's not always great
to miss the game, it's just
like you should be sober enoughto get through the game and all
out drinking during the game.
It kind of works, it works togo.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Right, right, right.
So that's one thing that's veryimportant and so that's what
you know.
That's a thing.
Over the years I've been prettydamn good at it.
I don't think I've missed.
I've gone to a lot of Packerbut I don't think I've ever
missed a game or a concertbecause alcohol played a point.
There was one time I remember myparents used to drag me along
(06:42):
to they were Willie Nelsongroupies and they would take me
to concerts when I was you know8, 10, 12.
They'd just be kind of goingand going and I I was sick, I
had a cold, sore throat.
They took me to summerfest andI was okay until the seats
started baking me, I think.
(07:03):
I think I was like 100, it'slike it was like 85 degrees and
I'm sitting there and I justcopped a fever.
I was trying to drink mountaindew and all of a sudden my mom
and dad just they kind of leftme in the stands and also they
were backstage and my mom kindof saw me because it was like
12th row, probably thought I wasgoing to pass out came and got
(07:25):
me and came and got me.
She came and got me.
She didn't leave me there.
Um, you know, you never know.
My parents wasn't always surewhat was going to happen when it
.
You know they were.
They were great, up until onceonce a willie nelson.
Once the willie nelson band wasin town all were off.
That was like their little holewhere they would lack all
(07:49):
parenting skills.
But you know, parents have tohave fun too.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
Nelson does that
right.
He hangs out with Snoop Doggall the time.
Yeah, it happens.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
He hung out with a
lot of people all the time,
that's for sure.
But all right, everybody.
Wwwscotchiebourbonboyscom forall things Scotchie Bourbon Boys
.
Make sure you check out thewebsite.
There's Glen Cairns T-shirts,everything.

, youtube and X.

(08:25):
But whether you listen, watch, make sure you like, listen,
subscribe, leave good feedbackand comment.
So you know we got that out ofthe way.
Perfect, I'm ready.
I'm ready.
Now I will say when you're, whenyou know these groups and all
(08:46):
these whiskeys that come outwith rock and roll, for rock and
roll people, a lot of peoplelike are always saying it's a
gimmick.
Right, is this a gimmick?
It's a gimmick, it's a gimmick.
But I think what MGP, or Rossand Squibb because MGP no longer
is, they're just the companythat owns a bunch of stuff, but
Ross and Squibb is thedistillery, I think, because
(09:08):
they brought so much to thetable that there's some decent
um and whiskeys out there.
You know what I mean.
Yeah, you're talking about thejump on.
You know heaven's door just, and I've got the.
What did I pull down fromHeaven's?
oh look at what I got fromHeaven's Door tonight.
(09:29):
I pulled in the pack.
I like it.
I should give you this.
I'll bring you up and then youcan have it for a podcast.
I already did the podcast andyou can do a thing of it.
You know, it's just a basicthing.
It's a good.
I just called it a podcast or ashow in a box it's good to me.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
I'll tell you what I
want to meet bob dylan one day
and I feel like we could drinkwhiskey together.
That'd be like one of my dudes, bro.
I think that would be awesome.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Yeah, I was thinking
I also.
I picked blackened tonight andyou have the wes henderson, you
have that one right there.
Yeah, but the thing aboutBlackened is it's Metallica, so
wouldn't it be awesome to meetand podcast with Metallica?
Speaker 3 (10:17):
It would be.
And if you do it, you'd have toget the bottle called 27, and
it has yellow on it.
Yeah, and they play the 27songs off of one of their albums
in the brick house while thebarrel's being aged and it's
supposed to taste like different.
That's the.
That's the goal on that oneyeah, that was really cool.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Sounds cool.
Well, I read that.
And they also play dylan songs.
I heard that they play dylansongs in the rick house also.
That was something they thattoo, the music is the vibration.
I'm going to tell you, ifyou're playing metallica
constantly and though and yougot some, you know, car bass
(10:56):
right you gotta got you gottahave some car bass to bring down
the rafters right.
It's gonna make those barrelsvibrate and that's gonna allow
the wood to absorb the whiskey alittle bit differently.
I will give you that, you know.
So I mean there's so manydifferent, different ones like
(11:19):
um.
Now, acdc is the concert thatI'm going to.
Everybody, I got my this is mypregame sweatshirt.
I got that.
It's kind of like 73 to 2025.
And there's a really goodchance tomorrow night.
This is it.
I mean, you know you're talkingBrian Johnson and oh my God,
(11:46):
why I always get this.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
The guy with the golf
hat that played the guitar.
Right, it's right there.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Angus Young, steve
Young, you know Brian Johnson,
they're getting in their 70s andyou know to rock like they rock
and they're one of the bandsknown for just bringing the
house down.
Um, I've been hearing a ton ofstuff that chicago um of a
couple guys from a guy at workknew a couple guys that were
(12:17):
going and in chicago and theyjust said they rocked the living
crap out of it and they're 70.
You know, I, I, we went and sawum last year.
Uh, it was nash came up, mct andme and we went and saw uh it
was death leopard and, um,motley crew, now, death leopard
(12:42):
rocked the hell out of it.
You couldn't even tell there'sno, they sounded good, there
wasn't a lot of lag.
But motley crew, you know, justto do what they did at the
level they did it and now to beadults like they're young kids.
Just they lost their mind, kindof thing, and now they're
pretty wild, but it's's nothing.
Nothing like what Motley Cruewas before.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
I saw the Netflix
special on what they do.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
Yeah, it's not like
that anymore.
I mean, you know there's a lotof old and tired.
I'm not saying there's no,everybody gets old.
So, yes, it's not like, like, and I just don't think anybody
could have kept up what they haddone in their prime.
They would have died.
They would have died, you know, and so they were.
(13:33):
But it was, it was okay.
But I had never seen motley crewbefore, so it was all right and
then to see, and I never saw adeaf leopard, so it was great to
see them.
I've never seen ACDC either.
I loved ACDC.
I know so many people I couldhave went to once I wasn't able
to go and everything.
So this one's kind of excitingbecause it might be the first
(13:56):
and last time you see them.
You know what I mean for me, sothat's going to be kind of cool
, but that's cool.
But they all, you know, knowalmost every band, rock band had
an associated with, I mean, jack daniels and jim beam.
You know what that you know, isn't it?
It's, uh, my, uh, what's hisname?
Uh, kid rock.
(14:17):
I mean, you know, yeah, it'slike george thoroughbred, yeah
yeah, and then um you knowthey're out there, it's.
You know, not all of them arereadily available.
I, but the metallica one afterwe did the west henderson, you
know that one I was impressed.
So I'm impressed on this.
I got a little bit ofinformation and we'll barrel
(14:39):
breakdown, um, barrel bottlebreakdown.
That, and you can barrel bottlebreakdown the wes henderson
with me, sounds good to me.
So I mean, what is this?
How do you look at whiskey whenit comes to like rap, rock and
roll, that kind of thing, do you?
I mean, there's always you knowyou're into whiskey, like you
(15:00):
know you're sipping and you'retrying it and you and you also
do a lot of beers.
But you know that when it comesto rock and roll, like Chris, a
concert Chris Stapleton haswith, you know, buffalo Trace,
they have Traveler it's, it'sdifferent.
And then you know Billy Idol,Rebel Yell.
(15:21):
He's associated to Rebel Yell,I mean all these different ways.
Jack Daniels too.
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
So when you're talking aboutthe whiskey brands and you know
the singers that promote thebrands, the existing brands or
have their own brand, I meanit's a different type of whiskey
, right, wouldn't you say it'sgot to be.
(15:43):
In my opinion, it's got to be.
In my opinion, it's got to bedrinkable, it's not supposed to
be sipped, and but it's got tobe one level good you are.
Speaker 3 (15:52):
You are correct.
I think there's some rapperstrying to do whiskey too,
because asap rocky has a whiskeynow, and there was somebody
else I just seen online that's arapper that's doing a whiskey
and I'm like this is crazy, Iwonder if it's going to be good.
I feel like sometimes like okay, brad paisley's thing, you had
a, you had him in a tour bus,you had all those barrels on a
(16:13):
bus.
So the bus is coming down, it'sall sloshing around in the bus,
going on his four legs, andthen the highway bottles had a
different four leg number onthem so you'd have a different,
it'd be a different batchbecause it was on a different
road, so they were hittingdifferent bumps and different
heat levels and this.
So it kind of worked.
It was kind of cool.
But I think the highway with hewas.
(16:35):
I think that was okay.
I think the one that stood outto me was heaven store.
That's why, when we starteddoing things like what two years
ago, I was like yo, you gottatry this heaven store.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
I got some crazy
stuff Like it was actually
really really good.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Yeah, I mean I tried
through everything with an open
mind.
I think some of the stuff thatsome of the celebrities do, I
think works with in the backyard, maybe a cigar will make it
that much better, or you caneven put you know coke in it and
be happy.
Make a drink play cornhole, whatever, but there are some
good brands that came out withcelebrity backing in it and I'm
(17:06):
kind of glad they did.
That kind of works out too.
You know the Tenenstor is doingsome amazing stuff.
Their cash spring stuff isgreat.
Their store picks from Michigan.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
We're always up there
going to grab them.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
They're super good.
Eric's first.
Jack Daniels is actually prettygood.
I got one of those too.
That's not pretty good I gotone of those to do right that's
that's how I look, how cool thebottle looks compared to your
regular jack daniels.
So if you have your regularjack daniels, that looks like
this one and then you have youreric church pick jack daniels
like it.
Just it looks cool, it's a coolthing to have on your bar.
It's a good conversation piece.
People are like hey, matt, what's the black one?
(17:37):
Like, oh, that's eric church's.
Look at this, it's somethingcool to share with your friends,
you know.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
Yeah yeah.
Let me grab quickly.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
This one's only 94
proof.
This one's 94 proof.
So say proof.
But I think maybe you had toend in picking it.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Possibly That'd be
kind of cool.
Well, honestly, what happens isyou got to be.
In my opinion, if you're a rockand roll whiskey, for instance
Rebel and Rebel Yell, thedifference Rebels all are like
cast strength, 100 proof, 104,120.
You know the Rebel 10 yearwhich I got?
(18:16):
Where did I put that?
Yep, right here.
This one is a single barrel andit's 100 proof.
But when you get into the rebelyells you're talking 86 proof.
This, blackened, is 90 proof.
You gotta have it.
In my opinion, it's got to bereasonable between.
It's got to be probably 94 to80 to 94.
(18:38):
If you start getting into thehundreds, that is starting to
that's going to affect your day.
If you're drinking, drinkingthat plus, you know you.
The other aspect is is I alwaysfind is you might take a little
sip, but these are great forlike blackened and coke or, um,
you know, make it old-fashionedout of them or whatever.
(19:00):
They're great mixers for theday.
But I really believe that ifyou're going to have a rock and
roll associated whiskey, you arebeing irresponsible to put one
out at Cast Strength, becausenone of the people who are
drinking your whiskey at theconcert are going to be
conscious by the end.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
If it's barrel-proof.
That's the thing.
They've got to kind ofestablish that brand at that
normal level and then have thecash drink stuff for the people
that drink whiskey.
Like you don't drink whiskey byitself, Right, Because then
you're getting all the crowdsthat are in there and you'll
have the people that just wantto sip whiskey by itself and
then you'll have the ones thatwant to put it with a Coke, Like
a lot of the stuff I get fromcelebrities.
(19:40):
I think it's really good withCoke, honestly, and I'll play
cornhole and drink it and youcan drink it all day long and
it's just awesome.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Well, what this one
says.
This bottle, I just popped it.
I like the nose on it alreadyand it's just a fresh crack.
So a bold collaboration of thefinest, hand-selected whiskeys,
an unrivaled competition ofcraft and creativity, born in
cask, forged by sound, bottledby Sweet Amber Distilling
(20:07):
company, columbus ohio.
So if that doesn't tell youanything, it tells you
everything.
It's, I know, for it's bottledby, you know, our sponsor in
columbus ohio.
There's no doubt about it,because I've, actually i've-
known that um but I don't think,I know that it's aged, but in
(20:33):
my opinion, I think that they'regoing to be just this isn't for
real, but I think they'llprobably be distilling there too
, probably be distilling theretoo.
You know now that that's atthat distillery.
I really think it would makesense for them to do their own
brand, which would be, you know, contract distilling there,
because it's available, right?
(20:54):
So, anyways, I'm all for Ohiocompanies doing stuff with
Metallica.
So this is once again anAmerican, which means they
brought, they purchased, um,some whiskey that didn't.
You know, there's a lot ofwhiskey on the market,
especially when it comes tothese brands.
(21:15):
Where it was, it was uh, themash bill was, was everything,
but they didn't put it in a,they couldn't put it in.
They had to put it in a.
They couldn't put it in it,they had to put it in a used
barrel, you know, because of thefact that there was a barrel
shortage in 2012.
So the stuff aged in a usedbarrel, which means it's got
more time that you could put onit before it becomes over-oaked.
And then also, you know, it'skind of like you got to do some
(21:39):
fun stuff like what Wes yourbottle there.
What did Wes do for that?
Speaker 3 (21:46):
This Like Wes your
bottle there.
What did Wes do for that?
This one was rested in where isit at?
This is cast strength at 116.2proof.
This one was rested in whiteport wine casks, so this one has
a way different finish thanmost of them.
I've tried yeah, Kentuckystraight bourbon whiskey
finished in white poor winecasks.
(22:07):
I wonder if this one came.
Yeah, it was bottled inColumbus, Ohio too yeah, but
it's, but it was purchased.
You know it's, it's out ofKentucky, so it is yes because
this one says Louisville, kentucky, up here under Wes
Henderson, and then it saysKentucky, straight bourbon
whiskey on it.
So that's kind of cool.
So this will be a wholedifferent distillate than what's
(22:29):
in the other one.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Does Wes also do
stuff?
Did he do stuff with Angel's?
Envy?
Stuff with Will it.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
What he had a Will it
one.
He had a Will it.
But I think Wes does do stuffwith Angel's Envy too.
But the other one that I'mmissing is the Will it one of
this, the black stuff for AngelsEnvy too.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
But the other one
that I'm missing is the Will it
one of this, the Blackened.
There's my cup.
You see that I'm drinking itout of the Will it blend?
That was being subtle, so thenose on this is total.
It's apple, a lot of apple, maybe some pear, a little bit of
(23:20):
chocolate.
It definitely is an Americanwhiskey.
It's got a more fruitier youknow, flavor than the, than a
bourbon, not as much caramel, you know that type of thing.
All right, so I'm going to giveyou a little bit of background
on this.
I do have some because I meanit's metallica they're gonna
(23:43):
have.
So blackened whiskey is bornfrom metallica spirit of
innovation, steeped in scienceand honed by seasoned experts.
Its award-winning portfolio ofamerican whiskeys are uniquely
finished and sonically enhanced, using the black noise process
to extract more flavor from thewood, resulting in blackened
(24:04):
whiskeykey's signature taste.
The recipe for our originalexpression was envisioned by our
founding master distiller, davePickrell, and released in 2018.
Blackened Whiskey is nowcrafted and propelled onward by
category disruptor and masterdistiller and blender, rob
Dietrich.
So Rob joined Blackened in 2019, the helm as master distiller
(24:27):
and blender.
Rob is a veteran in spirits andmusic industry and his passion
and experience makes him aperfect choice to lead and
oversee the sourcing, blendingand cask finishing of each batch
of Blacken whiskey.
He's widely known for hishighly skilled and artistic
approach in creating boldflavors and unique expressions.
Creating bold flavors and aunique expression the noise
enhancement process low hertzsound waves causing the whiskey
(24:50):
to reverberate at a fast rate, interacting with the oak staves
of the barrel, measurablyreleasing wood compounds and
flavors like toasted coconut, vanilla, butterscotch and
caramel.
Remastered and cast finished.
Remastering whiskey meanslayering flavors during blending
and enhancing the base throughcast finishing, while using our
black noise sound enhancement toextract more flavor, resulting
(25:13):
in a one-of-a-kind blackenedtaste.
All right, metallica approachedwhiskey making the same way
they've always approached musicpushing to create something
original and better.
They work only withcollaborators who share their
uncompromising commitment toquality and pour their souls
into it until they've madesomething that's truly special.
So there you go.
That gives you a little bit.
(25:35):
Now let's see.
All right, our whiskeys areblackened.
Brandy, the original black.
I got a handful.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
Well, I'm sorry I got
a handful of different ones.
I got that rye.
That looks really cool with thegreen on the bottom instead of
the black okay, and they do theones that they blend together
with other people like will it?
Speaker 1 (25:59):
and then you have
these white port ones so the
blend of um the blackened isfinished in brandy casks.
So, that's where some of thatblend of straight finished in
black brandy casks for this one, remastered by David.
(26:19):
This one is remastered by DavePickerel, so that's the original
guy that started it, so gotthat one right here 90 proof, 90
proof.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
So there you go.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
Yeah, they have a
decent amount and you know
there's certain people that havecalled this a gimmick.
But you know, I'm going to tellyou when you start sloshing
around bourbon, I don't care ifyou stick it on a river, you
stick it on an ocean or you know, when you put it out on the
high seas, the heat is going toaffect that too.
(26:57):
In those barrels it's going toget really hot out there.
Anybody knows that when you goacross the ocean, especially in
the summertime, it gets hot andif you go during, it's just wide
open.
You know the cold and whateveror the heat that's there.
So, um, colton says the willetone is good, this is just their
standard, finished in brandycasks, I mean.
But overall, um, driving it asrosewood does, the 90 miles on
(27:22):
the road, that's going to dosomething.
It all affects it, opposed toletting it sit, you know, at jim
beam, in a rickhouse withoutrotating your barrels, and just
wait.
That's one way of doing it, butthere's so many other ways of
doing it.
You know buffalo trace doesn'tcall it rapid aging, but they're
basically heating and coolingtheir rickhouses all winter long
, opposed to just letting it sitthere, kind of like.
(27:45):
So it's that's going to changeexactly how bourbon tastes.
That's one of the reason, in myopinion, why buffalo taste does
so well is because that system, that steam system, that ah
taylor set up so when it comesto playing music, and then
you're talking about a specificsong over and over, hitting the
same decibels over and over, opposed to different songs and
(28:07):
different decibels consistently.
I'm sure it definitely doesplay a role in how it goes right
.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Yeah, I think that's
going to bring a lot of the
flavor out of the barrel.
It's going to bring that flavorthrough better than it would
just sitting there.
It kind of works into the wooda little better.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
Yeah, it's totally
drinkable, it's got a.
It's got a chocolate like achocolate little thing going on
a little bit.
It's like a caramel here's whatit tastes like caramel you know
, when you get a caramel applethat's dipped in chocolate over
the top of it, that's what ittastes like to me.
(28:48):
It's got a little bit of applewith that, you know so.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
Well, the normal
blackened is a good sipper to
just sit down and sip on.
I mean, it's affordable, it'seasy.
I don't think there's anythingwrong with it.
Like I'm with it, yeah, 49.
And if you get tired of takingit by itself and you're outside
with your friends, you can makedrinks for everybody.
Like smoked.
Old fashions are good.
With this.
Run a cinnamon stick smoke that.
Throw it in there.
Put the smoker on top of yourglass.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Good to go yeah for
sure if I can re-find my smoker.
It's like I'm alwaysre-packaging up stuff you know
kind of thing, and I couldn't.
This weekend Rossi's like let'shave a smoke, old fashion.
So I start looking and I can'tfind my smoking stuff.
And the funny thing is it's notjust it's you know, it's a
(29:34):
little like kind of um tube, thething that sticks out and then
there's a little cover.
Okay, I can see if I can findthat.
But I got five different woodsin in, you know, in like
candle-sized jars that I'm likewhere could that be?
Because they're all together.
I remember putting them alltogether, but it's like finding
(29:55):
it was not didn't happen, especially in the time period I
never put them in the bag beforeI even carry around.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
My wife got me one
for Christmas.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
It's about it because
in the time period that I had
to make the drink, I exceeded itand then all of a sudden I was
hearing where is it?
So I just ended up making aregular old fashion.
So, anyways, all right.
Um, you want to break yoursdown?
We could do that, all right.
(30:24):
So so we're going to do adouble breakdown here, our first
ever double breakdown.
I mean, nash could have done itlast week when he was on.
He did it on memory.
He was remembering what theflavor was of the, you know, of
the.
I believe it was.
What bottle was it that I havelast week that he didn't have?
(30:45):
He slides in an Eagle Rare.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
I got to say me too.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
You got a 13th Colony
.
Is that the French Oak or justa regular Ember on a?
Speaker 3 (31:01):
ride.
Speaker 1 (31:02):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
I met Mr Randy for it
in Florida Way home.
This one to me smells likegrapes.
You got grapes on that one, noGrapes Also the dry wine like an
after dinner wine.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
All right, everybody,
time for the Old Louisville
Whiskey Company Barrel BottleBreakdown section.
Old Louisville.
Make sure, when you're there, check out the old louisville
whiskey company.
I mean their uh, call ahead, set up a tour, he'll let you.
You get the feet from barrelsfill the bottles, all the things
.
He's there, um, pretty much allthe time.
(31:38):
But you know it's appointmentfor setting up tours and that
type of thing.
But you gotta check out oldlouisville whiskey company.
Old louisville whiskeycompany's barrel bottle
breakdown scale is uh, nosetaste, nose, body taste, finish.
Uh, you can give up to fourknocks with our hammer here,
(31:58):
right here, a barrel bung hammer, and for the nose and the body
you can give up to five knocksfor the taste and the finish,
and if one's exceptional you cangive it a butt up.
So here we go.
So, matt, what do you think of?
He has the blackened WesHenderson finished in what was
(32:22):
it?
What kind of barrel White Pork, cask White Pork?
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Cask.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
Now, we did a live
with that when I was there.
I believe that was it.
What?
What kind of barrel, white,white.
Now, now we, we did live withthat when I was there.
I believe that was it at saintno, two years ago.
No, it was when, what was it?
When we were there for saintpatrick's day?
Or was it there when we werethere with a nash, when we came
up with nash?
Speaker 3 (32:45):
I would say it was
two years ago, St Patrick.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
Not last year, but
two years before Actually was it
, the one before Coza came.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
Was it three years
ago.
Speaker 1 (32:55):
No I think it was the
one when Coza came.
It was not the first one.
We went to Coza's, it wasn'tthat one, it was the next one.
When he came over, he had doneit and then he was running a
little late but he cooked.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
That was when he was
cooking in the side yard here.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
So right, about a
year and a whatever, because
then there's this year.
So it was a year ago at StPatrick's Day, so we're not too
far away from that.
So, on this one, what do yougive out of the four knocks?
What are you giving this one asfar as no's?
Speaker 3 (33:27):
No's for me.
When it first got in the glass,I'm going to go with like a
three Because it's really hotand then it comes through with
like a grape sweetness.
Alright, I would go with athree.
Speaker 1 (33:38):
Alright, here we go.
One, two, three.
How many do you here?
None, that was the first time Iheard them all.
Speaker 3 (33:51):
I wanted to say it,
but I wanted to wait and see
them talk.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
Oh, wow, you heard
them all.
That was the first time I heardthat I think because you're
close to the camera.
I think that's what happened.
It's all about the microphone, the canceling and all that.
But it's okay, I figured, if Ilearned that if I take my time
and I say the number in between, that resets the microphone.
So if I get too hurried.
Now on this one, chocolate, this one.
(34:22):
You know how some flavor ofthis comes out a lot, so I think
this one is strong points ofthis, of this one, uh, just the
blackened in brandy casks.
So I'm gonna go with uh threeon this one too.
Speaker 3 (34:31):
One, two, three you
get a cherry scent on yours with
the chocolate, because Ihaven't had that bottle over
here in like six months or soand I swear I remember like a
chocolate cherry type of thing, but I could be wrong.
It's more, I do a lot ofdifferent things.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
It was more like
apple coming straight out, but
now that it's been there it'smore like caramel chocolate.
You know what I mean.
Not too much.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
It's been a minute
since I've had that one and I
kind of remember back to itexactly, but you minute since
I've had that one and I kind ofremember back to it exactly, but
you know well, you have so many.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
Yeah, well, I don't,
I haven't had this, this one yet
, so it's kind of cool Iactually likes that one with
diet coke sometimes.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
So that's how I know
it's like an easier, more fruity
note, like.
Speaker 1 (35:22):
So I'm like okay, so
I kind of like that, but I know
that there's something in therethat's like more fruit based so
let me, let's let's think aboutum, so I would be having
metallica playing in thebackground while we were doing
this, except then I would bespanked by youtube you get to
monetize so quick, they'll belike nope, nope nope, but it's
(35:45):
there.
It's their whiskey, I'mpromoting it, nope.
Speaker 3 (35:49):
There's not a reason
you can't reach out to the
company, ask, and then you canpost up the paper that says they
said it's okay, and then youcan play the music.
I would think there's somethingyou could do.
I haven't figured it out yet,so if you do, let me know what
that is there is.
Speaker 1 (36:08):
You can write a
letter to, or or email to
metallica and say you want to doit and get permission, but
that's a lot of work.
I'd rather just have metallicaon.
That's about the same amount ofwork as trying to, you know,
write a letter, have them giveyou permission and then you talk
about it while they're not on,but you can have their music.
I mean, it's probably easier, just try and contact the band,
have them on and I'm sure whenthey're on you could play their
(36:28):
music.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
Yeah, see, I'm sure
that would happen, because I
mean it's their music.
I would think they'd be able todo that, I know they would be.
There's a lot of bands thatdon't normally do that.
Yeah, that's true.
A lot of bands don't own therights to their music, so if
they sold it off to someone elseand someone else gets paid when
they get played, maybe it's nota thing.
I don't know.
If Metallica owns all their ownstuff, they probably do, maybe.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
I think Metallica's
probably the one that owns it
all.
Usually if you're the numberone just like if you like Stones
or the Beatles you're the onebuying the rights to other
people's stuff.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
Actually, I think
Paul McCartney bought all of the
Beatles.
I was mistaken, yeah, yeah, because uh didn't like to
actually buy all m&m's music atone point and then after 20
years it goes back to him orsomething, because he was pissed
off at a band, something abouta minute song well, you don't
have to I think that's a.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Thing yeah, if it's
the record company, the record
company can own it, but beforethey can sell it they have to
offer it initially to sell it tothe band.
And the Beatles were able toget big enough and own their own
rights and everything, and samething with the Stones.
But there are certain bandsthat, especially if you're an
average good band, you kind ofsell that off because you want
(37:40):
the money.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
You want the money
right now instead of later.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
Yeah Well, not even
just later.
I mean, you don't know how longyou're gonna go.
You know you're not like awhatever.
So most of most bands will goby the wayside after a couple,
two, one or two albums, and thenthere's a few that'll just be
able to stay and be able toevolve.
Speaker 3 (37:58):
You know, I mean not
everybody's green day you know,
chris brown owns the rights thatall of his music.
So it's kind of like smart guyman, you're just going to get
paid, I'm paid, I'm paid, you'realways going to get paid for it
.
God loves Chris Brown.
I bet that's where the dancemoves come from.
Are we talking about?
Speaker 1 (38:19):
the same Chris Brown
that was married to what was his
wife's name?
She's dead.
Rihanna no, oh, no, who.
What was his wife's name?
She's dead.
No, no, who is who?
Am I thinking that?
Speaker 3 (38:32):
was married to
whitney houston b brown, who I
forgot, bobby brown, bobby brown, bobby brown sorry, I, I've got
a mixed up.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
Yeah, you don't want
to, you don't?
Well, you don't want to befriends with bobby, no, he's
done some stuff, so that's notthe best idea.
Exactly it is.
It's whiskey, so like um, sowe're next.
I'll go next on the body inthis one For 94 proof.
(39:03):
They do a really good job.
Ah, it's all over it everywhere, or it's it's all across.
It's the way what it does, whatit's doing, the glass and the
legs and everything.
But the taste is big and bold.
I have.
It's probably the strong point,my opinion, the whole thing.
I mean you can taste it andit's a four.
On the body.
It's in the cheese cheeks, upper and lower, and it's easy.
(39:27):
You know what I'm saying.
The flavor goes there, but it'snot a lot of big burn flavor,
but the flavor's there.
So I'll give it a four.
What are you drinking One.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
I was laughing.
You got the same thought.
Three Four.
Speaker 1 (39:44):
How many did you have
?
Speaker 3 (39:47):
that time Two.
So we gave it a four.
So we know you got it a four.
I counted the four.
You heard that.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
So what?
Speaker 3 (39:56):
you giving it Mine
has mine's super it just runs up
the glass but there's really nolegs.
It just leaves a line in theglass where it went and it kind
of falls.
A little different than yoursis.
Mine's not running the bus likethat.
You can tell where I rolled itto, but there's definitely no
legs working.
Speaker 1 (40:13):
Like I said, wait a
minute, wait a minute it's not
like a lot of times when they'rereally thick, you gotta wait a
couple, but this one man, itgoes right to big long.
I mean, it's just crazy.
And and so I mean the, the, theparticles must have been
vibrated properly.
Speaker 3 (40:30):
Right, good rock song
to that one.
This one will be like a three.
It's a little lighter, it's alittle spicy in your cheeks.
It does give you that littlewarmth that comes back.
It does ride pretty deep onthis one.
So I would go with a three onthis one again.
All right, dirtiness, yeah, because that grape comes through
(40:52):
solid, a little hot, that's mything, but yeah.
So.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
I'm going with a
three.
All right, here we go One, two.
Speaker 3 (41:06):
Three, yeah, just the
first one.
Speaker 1 (41:14):
The damn microphone
is smarter.
Now I can't fool the same waythe first time.
All right, so you go on thetaste.
What are you doing?
What are you giving it on thetaste?
Speaker 3 (41:19):
and since, on this
one you get a.
You get a nice little heat onthe tip of your tongue.
It walks through with almostlike a over over, overly crude,
overly pooped wine type of tasteon it.
You get a dark grape throughout.
And there's a little bit ofheat in the back that lets you
know it's there.
Heat doesn't follow down toyour stomach.
That's one of the things that Ilike about anything that has a
(41:40):
poop that's over 110.
Speaker 2 (41:42):
I usually wait for
that heat that comes down.
Speaker 3 (41:43):
You feel it hit your
stomach and it's there.
This one doesn't really havethat per se but it heats up your
mouth pretty well.
Speaker 1 (41:50):
I think it's super
well balanced Doesn't have the
Kentucky hug.
Speaker 3 (41:56):
That's what you're
saying I like stuff like that.
This wouldn't be one that Iwould go plow the driveway in in
a t-shirt in the winter.
You know what I'm saying.
So I would go with the threeagain on this one.
Speaker 1 (42:05):
I think it's well
balanced, all right one, two
three three all right, so Igotta hit the knot in the middle
and that must have been tooclose before.
All right.
So on taste, you can go up to afive, but I agree on this one.
(42:26):
I'll have to agree with you onthe taste On this one.
It's single level.
It's got a little bit of a bite, but for me this isn't off the
taste, but usually it's not.
This isn't the taste I'mlooking for for whiskey.
You know what I'm saying.
(42:46):
It's not like my jam.
There's a lot of other ones thatI'm going to pick up some
caramel or whatever.
This has more of that fruitierwhiskey taste.
I don't know if that's what wewere drinking.
I would honestly say that'ssomething.
You know what I mean.
So I'm going to give it a threealso.
One, two, three, one, two,three.
(43:08):
There we go.
Third, one, third, one, and I'mhitting it and it just makes no
sense.
All right, so what do you givethe finish?
Honestly, it's my turn.
So on this one, go first.
And that's where I feelRockstar Whiskey shouldn't even
be a category.
You know what I'm saying.
It's like when you're making aRockstar whiskeys, it shouldn't
(43:31):
even be a category.
You know what I'm saying.
When you're making a Rockstarwhiskey, you're making at one
level.
You know, like the old Tubbs, which are good, or the Evan
Williams, the finish is alwayswhat's the hardest of the.
You know what it is.
So on this one, honestly, it'sshort, right there, okay, so
we'll just see.
Got a nice sweetness to it.
(43:53):
So I'll give it a two on thefinish for the black.
And so here we go.
One, two.
You're up for a two on yourstoo?
Speaker 3 (44:10):
I'm up, I'm up on a
two with you.
Mine, mine doesn't have thatlong finish that I'm looking for
.
It kind of stops in the back ofyour mouth and there's really
nothing that goes down.
It's, it's so I know it'salmost lacking in that end to me
, so I was kind of almostbetween a one and a two for the
finish.
Speaker 2 (44:23):
I think the strong
point is in your mouth which
honestly, isn't, even, itdoesn't really blow your hat off
.
Speaker 3 (44:28):
You know what I'm
saying, but I think it's it's
pretty good in itself, right?
Speaker 1 (44:32):
well, I will, I'll
give you this, but uh, you know,
for the, for the west henderson, finished in white, white cast,
you would probably want it's alittle bit more expensive.
You it's cast right right.
So you want that fish probablyto be a little more than what
he's giving you.
But but for the black end I'mon board.
I mean, even though it was atwo for a finish, I'm kind of
(44:52):
cool with that.
This bottle is $9.49, and Ibelieve that Wes Henderson one
was.
What was it?
Speaker 3 (45:01):
I think it was $107
or something.
Speaker 1 (45:04):
Yeah, so it's a $100
bottle.
You would like to get a littlebit more of a finish, but you
know.
So a two, yeah here.
One.
One, two here, none, none.
Speaker 2 (45:19):
All right here.
Speaker 1 (45:20):
Try this None One.
Two the second one.
Speaker 3 (45:26):
All right, there we
go.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
All right.
So you gave threes across theboard and finished with two.
So at 11 out of 18 and I gave,I gave everything except I gave
a four on the body, because thebody was, you know, there's a
lot, there's a lot of flavor, and it did what I wanted to do
as far as a body, so I gave it a12.
So between the two of them wegive black and, uh, 1.5 of 18.
(45:56):
So I mean it's above.
In my opinion, it's an aboveaverage American whiskey.
There's a lot about it.
No, it's not bad.
And you know, when you'retalking about 11.5 and you're
going to a metallic concert, this will definitely be the
trick.
It'll probably go from an 11.5if you were going to be
backstage metallica making thisabout a 14 or a 15.
Speaker 3 (46:18):
But you know that's
beside the point so there we go,
I agree, and think, if you'reat the concert and you also have
to think about it if you're atthe concert, you can drink that
all day, pretty much go throughhalf a bottle to three quarters
of a bottle, even that all daylong, whether you put coke in it
, you drink it by itself and itdoes what it's supposed to do.
And it's metallic because brandsoda though, and I think I
(46:39):
think that works.
Speaker 1 (46:40):
I don't think it's
bad by any stretch yeah, yeah
not at all.
Let's see, I agree I.
I remember tasting that upthere and it was not.
It was better than as far asI've ever had any blackened.
It was better than I thought itwould be.
So that's, you know.
Overall, I think that's prettycool and plus it's Metallica's
(47:02):
brand.
You know it's something thatyou know.
There's no doubt.
If they're going to putsomething up, this is right
there.
The other one I want to talkabout is, um, a little bit with
the rebel yell, the rebel yellline, or rebel, and billy idol,
because billy idol was always myfavorites.
You know it's cool.
The acdc has a valentine.
I wish I could have gotten athunderstruck one, but you know
(47:24):
it had the bolt, has the thunderbolt on it, everything.
I'll keep looking, but I triedas much as you probably tried,
but it was the release that wasfar away from you know it's not
like any place has for sale andyou know it was.
It's more of uh, what would yousay, in my opinion, from a sash
, what I was reading?
It's more of a.
You know a thing you put on theshelf that you have.
(47:44):
You don't have to drink thatbecause, honestly, it's funny
that I understand they're fromthe other side of the pond right
, but at the same time the let'sfind it weird that they have
scotch.
The scotch isn't so much um,looked upon as whiskey.
Speaker 3 (48:00):
That you've already
right so I would give you that
because, yeah, there's somebottles that you just have on
the shelf because they look cool, like I mean, I have a nas
tennessee over there.
I mean I drink it, it'stennessee, but it has nas on it
and it's cool.
It has his lyrics on it fromthis bottle, like it's really,
really cool I won't ever open itlike I mean, I have a different
tennessee over there same one, just that one has a cool label
(48:23):
yeah you know, just like yourjack nails.
Speaker 1 (48:28):
There was like a rock
.
Youi got one from makers markcelebrate women's and natural
women, whatever and we wentthere for the podcast.
They gave it to her and got gother name on it.
You know, it's kind of like acool bottle, it's just maker.
Yep, it's just makers mark.
I don't know if we'll ever openthat one, because it was an
honor and if I want to justdrink makes mark, I got three
other ones that are open.
Speaker 3 (48:48):
It's going to be the
base Maker's Mark.
It has a cool label on it and Imean, just like my Kobe bottle,
it has the purple and yellowwax.
I mean it's really cool to have.
It's just going to sit there onthe shelf.
Speaker 1 (48:58):
If you want Makers,
we have a bunch of Makers, so
that is what it is Plus Kobe'sbottle is, you know, like a on
them, for it goes way more in aletter, is it actually has some
value to it?
But I found that there's a lotof stuff with maker's mark that
you collect and say because itonly makes art in the bottle.
You can go to the store and buya maker's mark and not wreck
your hundred dollar bottlethat's right, that is true.
Speaker 3 (49:23):
I mean, they don't
have some cool bottles that are
stuff that I would never.
I would never open just becauseit looks cool, when it's nice
to have on the shelf.
I've opened a couple of those.
If you've got a handful ofthose out there, you're like you
know what, this is just reallycool.
But I mean, we have this bottle, that's the same.
Speaker 1 (49:38):
So you know, yeah,
that's the same.
It's hard when you get thosespecial bottles where it's not
the same, and then you don'thave any any choice but you
gotta open it.
The cruise ride comes to mindwhen I think of this.
Well, that one had to be openbecause I had to share with the
group.
Speaker 3 (49:54):
It's not just for me,
for everyone.
Awesome, that was one of thebest moments.
I'm like this is crazy.
I love this.
Speaker 1 (49:58):
Yeah, yes yes, yes,
all right, so let's wrap up this
part of it.
Uh, I think you know the drill.
Uh, you're already on matt, soI'll come and I'll send an
invite afterwards.
But I want to say, every nightI look forward to Thursday
podcast.
That'll be a rough one, butdepending on how late I come and
how I got to work the next dayand then I got to actually do
(50:21):
podcast on Thursday, so it mightbe rough, and you know what
happens in my rough one, Iusually go a little short.
But I should be here onthursday telling you about, um,
my experience with matt there.
We look forward to live myafternoon up there with that and
also, uh, maybe cool from acdc, who knows, and then, uh, we'll
