Tuesday-Thursday night thing, ison purpose.
It's like I want to be able tojust, you know, talk to you guys
about spirits, sip on spirits.
Tomorrow's a working day so youcan't really push it too much.
So it's kind of like a realkind of cool kind of podcast.
(05:22):
But tonight there's the.
Tomorrow is the 4th of July andthis is not a weeknight, so I'm
going to have a little bit offun tonight.
So I've got a bunch of stuffgoing on.
Plus, I think I'm going to sipalong with this list.
I don't have all 12, but I gotclose and I'm sure, randy there
or Walker, if you've enteredyour locker, you guys are going
(05:43):
to be close to this too.
Sure, randy there, or Walker,if you've entered your locker,
you guys are going to be closeto this too.
But I will talk a little bitabout what they say about each
whiskey and then I'll go intowhat whiskey meant to our
country overall throughout theindependence, and I've got a
little bit of information onthat.
So that's what we're going tobe talking about tonight.
It looks like everything's on,everything's working.
(06:12):
Are we working there?
Yep, that's clicking away.
I'll stay away from all that, all right.
So this smoker system it'scalled Diablos, it comes, it's
so cool, I swear to God I gotthis so fast after talking to
him Comes in this nice box with, you know, the black grass, and
what I will do is quickly readwhat the smoker Now there is.
(06:36):
I'm going to try and see if Ican get on the podcast or
through a link.
I'll throw up the QR code, butyou can go to Diablo's Cut
Smoker Kit.
I'm sure if you search Diablo'sCut Smoker Kit you can get to
the website and watch the video.
(06:57):
But it says made entirely ofauthentic bourbon barrel oak
staves to create our incrediblevacuum smokers and smoking
shavings.
You can see the years ofbourbon saturation in each
handcrafted oak piece from agingover the years in the oak
barrel.
All our barrel oak have heldbourbon for years, causing a
(07:22):
delicious bourbon saturation inevery piece.
Our shavings are from the samerepurposed authentic bourbon
barrel oak with years of bourbonsaturation and infusion into
the wood.
The preparation to have themost tasty and authentic smoked
hair beverage on the market.
The years of bourbon saturationin the shavings gives each
(07:46):
smoked beverage a delicioustoasted caramel marshmallow
finish within five seconds afterthe swallow.
This simply elevates whateveryour whatever your drink of,
whatever your drink of choice is, and always gives it a smoother
finish.
So many people are amazed atnot only the delicious flavor
but the way it smooths out thedrink, allowing for a little no
(08:07):
bite, resulting in the bestsmoked drink that you've ever
tasted.
From start to finish, ourauthentic Diablo Cut Barrel
Smoker takes under 60 secondsand will have your friends
amazed and wanting more.
Check out the demo video below.
And wanting more?
Check out the demo video below.
And so this kit came with a Glen.
And then it comes with thebarrel.
(08:30):
It comes with the bear.
I'll show it to you guys.
I mean it comes with the torch.
I mean the torch is fantastic.
Here's the torch.
Look at that baby and watch.
Yeah, there you go, go.
That's pretty cool.
You guys all heard that on the.
I'll get it close.
You can hear that on the audio.
(08:51):
And then it can't comes with.
It's a barrel, barrel wood.
It's got the shape of the glasson the bottom side so it fits
on the glass.
I got the glass right here andyou'd stick it right there, and
then it's got in there.
It's got the little screen thatyou put the wood chips in.
So you got that.
Then you've got this same pieceof wood with the cover of the
(09:13):
barrel char right there, andwhat you do with this is that.
I'll explain.
It's used to cover the glenwhere the smoke hits.
Now it's really kind of cool.
I'm going to try and do this theway they did it, and so what
I've got is the first thing Igotta do is I'm going to.
(09:37):
I've got the whiskey in theglass, okay, so I'll show what
what they do and how you do it.
And I've got the ice.
Let's see if this baby, Ishould pull this out and at
least get it ready.
Drop it back in here for astack.
Drop it there, that's good.
Let's drop that back out of theway.
That's out of the way, allright.
(09:59):
So I've got two glasses, butthis glass here is ready to go.
So what these chips are arethese smoking shaving, and this
is what makes this pretty cool.
So you take the shavings andthese are actual shavings, and
when you smell it's, it's notjust shave, it's shavings from
(10:19):
staves that have whiskey on them.
So you take a shaving, I liketo get, let's go and we'll put.
I'm trying to do this so thatand there's some, I mean the
shavings are cool, I meanthey're actual, like you can
tell.
And then, since I'm going to dothis twice, so the first thing
(10:44):
you got is I got to get this.
I got the shavings out.
The shavings are like whatthey're saying, because it's
from the.
What you're going to, whatyou're burning and smoking is
from the barrel.
So you take your glass empty forthis one and you put this over
the top and you hold that there.
(11:05):
Now, here we go.
You just basically use this tofill the glass.
You fill the glass with smoke.
Then what you do is you usethis and you put that over.
(11:27):
So we got a glass filled withsmoke.
I'll set this over here.
And then what you do is youtake your whiskey in the glass
and you pour it in and you putthe glass over the top of it.
Now we start to make.
Now I'm going to drop the ice inand I got the whiskey.
(11:47):
Oh god, darn it.
Let's switch glasses.
Let's drop the ice.
There we go.
Let's drop the ice in this.
That'll drop down in a sec.
So I got the ice, ice ball inright in there.
Now this is where you start toadd the other stuff.
So so I've got the Middle West.
(12:07):
What I'm using is Middle Westwheat bourbon on this one.
So the first thing I'm going todo is do the shot.
Okay, let's just use this.
I'm going to use a shot glassfor measuring.
There we go.
That's my agave simple servicesyrup.
I dropped that baby in with theice.
(12:30):
Then what I do is take mybitters.
I'm going to give three dashes.
These are cherry bitters.
Two, three.
So I give it three dashes ofcherry bitters, dashes of cherry
(12:53):
bitters.
Then I take my cherries with atoothpick.
I'm gonna get two cherries withthe toothpick.
Let's see if I can do this.
These are almost.
These brandy cherries arealmost muddled already.
So I'm gonna drop one, drop oneWhile that smoke keeps smoking.
Drop two, try and drop three.
I love cherries in myold-fashioned and when I'm
(13:14):
making an old-fashioned I don't.
Let's just go three.
Now, I've got that in there.
All right.
Now I'm going to take my.
I did some zest and what you dois you do a little bit, or you
(13:39):
do that, let it, and then youhit it around the edge.
And then what I do is I spiralit, hit it through toothpick and
drop that baby in.
So now what you do is you gotthis and you got it smoked.
So what you do is you spin it.
(14:02):
Now, I'm not the best spinner.
Let's spin it with my righthand.
Okay, let's see if I can get itspun.
Okay, we're spinning it.
So this actually smokes thebourbon.
Now what I'm going to do?
So I'm going to pour some inPlus.
(14:29):
I want to taste oh, that's sogood, that was so, so good.
Now, at this point, I have mytrusty buffalo trace spoon and I
oh, come on, the ice is being apain in the butt, is what it is
.
It's just too big for thisglass usually, so I'm gonna stir
(14:55):
, stir.
There we go, let's do somerolling.
I was being a little bit messythere.
I'm not making it for anybodyelse, all right.
So what do we got here, we gota little bit, got to see what I
can pull out.
Usually I have a rag, butlately I have not had any rags.
(15:17):
Sometimes I can pull a napkinout of here.
All right, what do I got?
Anything.
Well, let's see what I can use.
Just looking, all right.
So this shirt needs to bewashed, so let's just wipe it up
.
There we go, use your shirt.
Good, good bartending trickright there.
(15:41):
All right, that's the firstold-fashioned now if now you can
also smoke it further.
But I wonder what is with thisice?
All right, I wonder if I do, ifthat'll work.
(16:02):
I wonder if I have a biggerrocks glass.
That one I might have one waybigger.
Okay, let's see.
Yeah, that's a bigger one,let's see.
All right, so let's go with thebigger one.
(16:27):
Pull this Kentucky bourbon thisis from the bourbon trail.
Let's see if this yeah, thatlooks like it's going to work.
There we go Woo, all right, solet's get real creative.
It's like okay, so you saw howyou did that, where you mixed it
(16:52):
, mixed it and you get thisdelicious.
That's a fantastic, fantasticold-fashioned.
The smoke flavor is fantastic.
I love this smoker.
Now I'm looking Put another, another, get my chip, get
another chip in there.
Well, let's, let's go for brokeand see what happens.
(17:13):
When you got a shaving, I'lldrop this shaving back in.
All right, I'm loading her up,but the flavor was fantastic,
and so, if you really want to dosomething quick with this
Diablo and you like smoker, yougot all this stuff.
(17:33):
I've got all the, I got thebitters, I've got the simple
agave, simple syrup, and I'vegot the cherries.
Now, the only thing you woulddo on this, in my opinion, you
still got the cherries, whichare good, so I'm going to wrap
this with another zest.
I don't have another toothpick,so I'm going to drop that baby
(17:57):
in.
What I'm going to do, though,is this is the coolest thing.
This is one of my favoritethings in the world.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
I gave a William
Dalton to a local celebrity
bartender yesterday.
Now, that's cool.
Anybody else out there?
Hello, from Ireland.
All right, that is Iman.
Nice to see you, awesome.
So I don't know why I'm havingproblems opening up the Buffalo
trace.
There it is.
(18:38):
There we go.
Now this comes on your shelfhere in the united states.
Anybody can buy it.
Uh, I'm pretty sure if you'llsee this on the shelf, we do it,
but I picked this up at thedistillery so I'm gonna.
(19:00):
This is actually anold-fashioned.
This is 84 proof, so it's anold-fashioned in a bottle.
So there's, you just add themix, pour it in, drop your
cherry in.
Well, let's drop a couplecherriesries in.
(19:23):
I'm going to spoon them in withthis and then I'm going to mix
it.
We drop the, what you call it.
We'll drop the cherry in thistime.
These brandy cherries are sofantastic.
They're American spoon candiedbrandy cherries from Michigan.
(19:49):
So good, put that there.
It's like cherry pie in a thing.
So now I've got my smoker, I'vegot the witch calling in there,
all you got to do.
That's pretty good.
(20:21):
No, it's right there.
Oh God, I'm going to start thewhole place on fire.
Let's make sure I didn't startmy carpet on fire.
Nope, it looks like it wentdown.
(20:41):
I checked.
Yeah, that wasn't probably thebest thing to do, but I got the
smoker working right now.
It's there now, normally.
Let's see, I'm gonna take myjacob bromwell and we're gonna
go like this.
There we go.
So now I've smoked the drink.
Oh, it smells so good.
(21:04):
So now I'm smoking thisold-fashioned with like a normal
.
So you can do both ways.
This is you saw how it works.
It's just.
That is great.
But the flavor on each one, let's see which one I like
better.
I wonder if I can.
Can that one's delicious?
(21:25):
I mean, god, making it with thewheat whiskey?
I will say it doesn't.
It does take away the bite.
All right, everybody, let's dothis.
I'm gonna put it up there close.
It's smoked.
Here we go.
(21:47):
Oh, look at, that Comes offperfectly.
Got the bourbon trail.
Now that is a smoked, smokeddrink right there.
Folks, it's all.
(22:10):
My bar is going to need to beclean, that's for sure.
It's actually being used as abar right now.
So there you go.
There is perfect.
That's what I'm going to besipping on, these two old
fashions tonight.
But wow, that's a buffalo tracewith a smoke.
(22:30):
I will tell you.
The cast strength wheat bourbonfrom middle West Spirits has a
nice flavor to it.
It's more, there's a little bitmore of a bite.
(22:51):
I would love Justin to give youa scotch on the rocks.
What's your favorite scotch?
The Pastel, let's see.
It was Justin All right andc-town all right.
Middle west wheat whiskey isreally good.
(23:11):
Yes, it is the calf strengththe wheat whiskey and the weeded
bourbon.
Both have them both.
I highly recommend it.
Uh, for four leaf whiskey allright.
So then we got that all right.
So I think that was a prettycool demonstration.
Um, okay, today I'm somebodynow.
(23:34):
Okay, I get what I ordered.
An on-air sign came today.
Yes, you're somebody now.
All right, randy.
Oh, hey, terry, good to see.
Oh, terry, dant ordered anon-air sign.
He's somebody now.
This, that's pretty cool.
Um, that, those on-air signs.
I gotta get more batteries forthat one.
(23:55):
It ran out last time, so we'rethere now.
So that brings us to the secondpart of our question.
What are you guys doing for thefourth?
I mean, have those six partialbottles from the?
Walker asks about knobs.
Nobs will have those sixpartial bottles from you next
weekend when I take mygranddaughter up to Michigan
(24:16):
hoping that some babies pop thisweekend so my wife can go, so
Roxy can go with me, but I'mgoing up there no matter what,
so I'm going to get to see mygrandson uh coming up.
So that's kind of cool.
Uh, thank you guys foreverybody saying hi and talking
and commenting because I reallylove um, let's see, finished in
(24:41):
the yes to West Wheat.
He says so Four Leaf Whiskey, said he took the Middle West
Wheat bottle finished in videoto a friend in Ireland who owns
(25:03):
a distillery.
Now that is pretty cool.
Oh, come on, I didn't mean todo that, god, I didn't know.
The live stream can't end.
I can't end the live streamwatching it.
All right, there we go.
All right, we're back, allright.
So that brings us to the.
The independence day.
It's, it's very.
Independence day is a prettycool holiday.
(25:25):
I understand there's a lot ofpeople overseas and whatever you
know, but for us, uh, whiskeyis such a unbelievable um part
of why the United States exists.
I mean, there are so manydifferent things that whiskey
has done and here is some thingsthat I was able to get.
(25:53):
For Independence Day,celebrating with whiskey or
bourbon is a great way to honorthe American spirit.
Bourbon, being an American-madespirit is a popular choice and
there are many excellentbourbons and other whiskeys
perfect for the occasion.
Whether you prefer sipping themneat or in a cocktail, tonight
I'm going to do both, but it'sin a cocktail right now.
(26:14):
So good, ah, so good.
Both of them, smoked, aredelicious.
This smoker from the diablo'scut smoker kit is fantastic.
(26:35):
I highly recommend it.
Go to the website and pick up,pick up one.
The torch works so good.
The system works good.
You saw how it worked.
It was great, so, anyways.
So all right, so I gotta dothat on this one.
Um, bourbon is deeply rooted inamerican history and making it a
(26:57):
fitting choice for celebratingthe nation's independence,
according to Dread RiverDistillery.
Whether you enjoy it neat, oron the rocks, or in a classic
cocktail like an old friend, ora whiskey sour, or an
old-fashioned or a whiskey sour,bourbon offers a range of
flavors and experiences.
(27:18):
If you're smoking meat, havingan old-fashioned or drinking it
neat is pretty cool.
Now they come up with a bunchof different stuff, but I'm not
going to get into that because,uh, don't be afraid to afraid to
try a rye whiskey or anamerican single malt.
If you're looking for somethingdifferent Now I will tell you a
(27:40):
rye whiskey is very, very partof American history, especially
in Pennsylvania.
Now that brings us to this part, the 12 American whiskeys that
capture the spirit of the Fourthof July.
So Independence Day is upon us.
(28:02):
Time for fireworks parades, backyard barbecues, beach days
Now this is from WhiskeyAdvocate, and perhaps a dram or
two when the sun goes down.
Here are some selections, listed alphabetical order, that
will add more fun to yourglorious forth.
Some of these whiskeys havecarved their place in the
(28:22):
American experience, whileothers simply evoke a uniquely
American spirit.
So the first one is 15 Stars.
First West Blend of StraightRise.
It's batched to SDD 52.5 ABV$89.
It's batched to SDD 52.5 ABV$89.
(28:43):
I got to taste this at the NewOrleans Bourbon Festival in 2024
.
Fantastic, it makes sense.
And so Whiskey Maker 15 Starsis named as a toast to Kentucky,
joining the union as the 15thstate in 1792.
Joining the union as the 15thstate in 1792.
(29:04):
The us flag with 15 stars andstripes, which was approved by
president george washington, isproudly featured on its label.
15 stars was founded in 2019 byfather and son blenders, rick
and ricky johnson, and itdebuted its first whiskey in
2022.
We've scored six of them so farand all have been above 90
points.
This is Whiskey Advocate and, like I said, I got to meet Rick
(29:27):
Johnson and he did a tasting forme.
Very good whiskey Colonel.
Eh Taylor single barrel bourbon.
Now this is where we start.
I've got the EH Taylor singlebarrel right here.
That's one of two.
Eh Taylor is considered thefounder of the modern whiskey
era as he built what is todayBuffalo Trace Distillery into a
(29:50):
major whiskey making site.
In 1870, taylor purchased thedistillery, naming it OFC Old
Fire Copper in tribute to hisuse of copper stills.
Two years after the deal, taylor built himself a major new
distillery and eh taylor ismade there today.
Buffalo trace is the oldestdistilling site in the country.
(30:12):
Whiskey has been warehousedthere since 1811 and distilling
started in 1858.
So I will bring out now this ismy single barrel and it's been
in the bottle for a long time.
So first I'm going to put alittle bit in a very little bit
and taste it.
Here we go.
(30:32):
That is the funkiest taylorsingle barrel.
I've had this for a long time.
I don't.
It was a single barrel barrelpick that I and I'm gonna.
(30:53):
Let's see what happens when wesmoke it, because something has
to happen to this.
I I'm not drinking a lot, guys,because I'm going to drink a
lot, so let's try it again.
Let's put this, let's put thatup.
Let's get the smoke going.
There we go, got that baby lit,set that over here.
(31:39):
Make sure no cords get whatever.
Let's shake that around inthere.
Let's see if the smoke can fix.
I might smoke the rest of thisbecause this one has always I
had, if you followed this, weactually had a benchmark single
barrel that was better than thissingle barrel, but I smoked it.
(32:02):
Look at it, sit down there inthere in my scotchie bourbon boy
glass.
Let's pull it off.
That is really cool how thatsmoke sits in that glen.
I'm still letting some out.
It's just sitting.
Oh, that's cool how it's comingout out.
It's just sitting.
(32:22):
Oh, that's cool how it's comingout.
Let's get back into um, let'sget over here, come back here,
cause we did that and you cansee that.
All right.
So we got some smoke in there.
Let's see what happened.
I'm going to drink the smoke.
It fixed it.
(32:48):
That was fantastic, all right.
So there we go, all right, thethird one is an old overhaul
mongolela, mano Nagahala, manoNagahala.
Okay, straight mash.
Rye 47.
Old Overholt's activity as acommercial whiskey dates back to
1810, when Abraham Overholtassumed management of the family
(33:11):
distillery and began tocommercialize it.
Ownership later came to theGilded Age tycoon, henry Clay
Frick, who was Abraham'sgrandson.
Old Overholt was long one ofthe greatest Pennsylvania, one
of the great Pennsylvania rise.
Though it's been produced inKentucky by owner Jim Beam for
(33:34):
many years, its history can beexplored at the West Overton
Village and Museum in WestOverton, pennsylvania.
All right, so then the next oneis I don't got that.
So right now we're one out ofthree, right, yep, but now we're
two out of four.
I'm going to bat 500.
This one is, despite this one's,eagle Rare.
(33:55):
10-year-old bourbon, 45 ABV,$38.
This, this is from 2024, soit's a little bit more, but I've
got eagle rare.
There it is.
It's up right there.
Let's put that in there.
Let's listen to this.
(34:16):
Despite its proud name and loftystatus, eagle rare has been
around only since the 1970s.
Still, the name is too good notto include.
On the 4th of july, eagle rarewas created by seagrams at the
four roses distillery, thencalled old prentice it's bird
imagery targeting the popularwild turkey brand.
(34:39):
In 1989, amid whiskey's leanyears.
It was sold to Sazerac, whichsoon acquired Buffalo Trace
Distillery in 1992.
And Eagle Rare moved in.
The rest, as they say, ishistory.
Eagle Rare is in huge demand.
You can find it, but probablynot at SRP here in Ohio.
Yes, you can't find it, butprobably you can find it, but
(35:01):
probably not at srp.
But here in ohio yes, you can.
And this is one of my favoritebottles, because this came out
of the pandemic and this is ablend, and when I got this, this
one you can see right off ofthis, this, this one was pretty
good.
Okay, so let's see what year itis.
(35:22):
I mean, eagle Rare is a 10 year.
Let's see where we got that.
There we go.
It's 2021.
So, yes, this is my.
I picked this up for MSRP and Idon't think this is going to
need any smoking.
No, this is a damn good EagleRare.
(35:48):
Love it.
Now Eagle Rare lately has comeout with the Ritt earlier and
man and holla.
Man and holla, man and holla.
(36:11):
Thank you, walker, for that one.
All right, so we're two out offour Now I've tasted this one.
So we're two out of four NowI've tasted this one.
George Washington, straight rye.
I mean, this makes sense.
Randy, thank you for bringingthat with you.
I have to get there soon.
I think late 2025, early 2026is going to be dedicated to
(36:38):
Pennsylvania.
I'd like to go back to LibertyBowl, stolen wolf, and make it
to Virginia for the GeorgeWashington's uh Mount Vernon uh
distillery.
Uh, steve Beshar does such agood job there.
Got to meet him at stolen wolfwhen uh Martin Nash was invited
(37:03):
to do the veterans mash-in thathappened there and I got to
cover that and I was honored tobe a part of that to meet Steve
Alan Bishop was there and thenyou had oh, come on, I know the
(37:25):
stolls uh, it's not coming to myright now, but both of them
eric, I believe, and dick dickstole um, and they basically
hired the distiller, the lastdistiller who worked at
Michter's before it leftPennsylvania, closed down and
(37:46):
then eventually went to Kentucky.
But that distiller at theMichter's distiller was
distilling at Stolen Wolf.
So that's really cool.
In 1779, george WashingtonDistillery on his estate in
Mount Vernon, virginia, produced11,000 gallons, making it one
of the biggest distilleries inAmerica at the time.
(38:06):
The distillery and gristmillbuilt in 1797, and the gristmill
still works today.
They have the stone that theyreconditioned at that gristmill.
That gristmill works stilltoday.
They have the stone that theyreconditioned at that gristmill.
That gristmill works stilltoday.
We're inspired by JamesAnderson Washington,
(38:29):
scottish-born farm manager, located just under three miles
from the Mount Vernon Estateentrance.
Both buildings were restored ina project that began in the
early 2000s, and the whiskeysare sold on its website.
(38:50):
So that's a fantastic bottle.
That is rye dedicated to beingmade the same way that it was in
the 1700s, so, which is reallycool.
All right, so now we get into.
So I was two out of five on thefirst five.
(39:15):
So Jefferson's Reserve 45 ABV.
Jefferson's was founded by TreyZoller and his father, chet, in
1997.
The name was indeed inspired byThomas Jefferson, american's
(39:39):
third president and author ofthe declaration of independence.
Chet, who passed away earlierthis year, was a lawyer that's
2024 and a historian whoseeighth generation grandmother,
marion mclean, was arrested in1792 for production of spiritist
liquors.
Last year's jefferson releaseof marion mclean limited edition
(40:02):
expression a blend of fivebourbons that still can be found
, that still can be found onlineum, that's really cool.
I've got the jefferson's twinoak, but, uh, we need the.
Where did they go?
They should be somewhere.
(40:23):
Did I put them.
They can't disappear.
Top there they are alright.
So I have the Jefferson'sReserve Twin Oak custom, very
rare custom barrel, singlebarrel, and so we'll just take a
(40:48):
little bit of that.
Hopefully I don't need to smokeit.
Take that off just a little.
Roxy came down and she's doinglaundry.
Hey, roxy, hi, so do you wantto taste my fantastic Smokes,
(41:09):
old Fashions?
Yes, please.
She won't be on camera, butshe'll come over here and you'll
be able to hear her.
Hopefully she won't bump any ofthe equipment, because that's a
possibility.
But there we go now.
This one was made with middlewest spirits and it was done the
diablo, the diablo cut way.
(41:32):
The diablo cut smoking kit way.
Did you just eat a cherry?
I did.
She steals.
My favorite, those are thebrandy cherries.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
It's actually quite
spectacular can you make me one?
Speaker 1 (41:48):
after the podcast yes
, but then that one was the one
with middle west spirits.
Now this one, that's yummy now, this is a quick, this is just
smoked and it's theold-fashioned from buffalo trace
.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
Yeah, I have to just
taste.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
That don't make me
one of those all right those lay
me out lay anybody out, but Ithink actually my, the, the
middle west, would probably layup, bring it to kentucky what
that one's better I agree, makeme, make me.
Of course, I will make you oneof those and because that has
(42:23):
the middle, I did the smokingthe middle west like weeded one
or yes I can tell this is theweeded bourbon that is good
stuff, folks yep, there you go.
So, uh, we're getting ready forfourth of july, that's for sure.
And uh, all right, so that wasthe jefferson.
(42:44):
So now we're three of six.
Now comes the fun part mictors.
Us1 barrel strength, rye, 55abb.
110.
Mictors is a kentucky whiskeywith roots in Pennsylvania.
It was founded in 1753 by SwissMennonite rye farmers, john
(43:06):
Shank, in Schaeferstown,pennsylvania, northwest of
Philadelphia.
According to legend, john Shank, whiskey was so valued that
George Washington visited thedistillery and purchased whiskey
for his troops at Valley Forgeto fortify them for the winter
of 1777 and 1778.
(43:26):
Two centuries later, michter'stouted its heritage as the
whiskey that warmed therevolution.
Michter's also makes a limitededition shanks whiskey.
So here we go, this shanks, hereit is.
Uh, I have been able to.
(43:53):
I love the Twin Oaks Jeffersons.
I love Double Oaks, twin Double, whatever.
That is a good old-fashioned,I'd like to do that again.
This does not need any.
(44:14):
That is a good old-fashioned,I'd like to do that again.
This does not need any Shanks, does not need any difference.
Okay, bought two Eagle Rarebottles last summer in Michigan
for $37.
Yeah, eagle Rare.
When you find it on the shelfit's phenomenally reasonably
priced For what it is.
(44:35):
I mean, there's some batchesI'm not a fan of, but there's
other batches that are caramellyand for that price I mean, come
on.
So there you go.
All right, so shanks, here we go.
We'll just do a little bit.
No, no, no, no, that wasmictors.
Sorry folks, I pulled theshanks too early.
(44:57):
Let's do the mictors.
My mictors is a super nashexclusive and we are talking, I
wonder, if mictors puts thewhich call it on the bottle to
see what year it is, becausethis might be a 2020 or 2019.
I'm to check it out real quick.
Let's see what we got.
Do we got a UPC code on thebottle?
(45:23):
I don't see it.
No, not there.
And sometimes it's right uphere, Looking, looking, looking,
looking, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.
This might have been before.
They were doing that, all right.
(45:45):
So this is 86 proof.
This is mictors.
So this is 86 proof.
This is Michter's Toasted BarrelFinish, kentucky Sour Mash
Whiskey 86 proof.
And Michter's batch.
Yeah, okay, this was given tome by early on and there's only
(46:12):
just a little bit left.
And this was a phenomenalbottle, because I love toasted
barrel finishes and this istoasted barrel finish, sour mash
, and this was spectacular, isis a spectacular bottle, so
we'll hit that baby up.
But mictors we talked aboutthat, and john shank and whatnot
(46:35):
.
So here, cheers to mictors.
Put that back there.
God, that's delicious.
That was a.
(46:58):
Oh there goes.
Tiny's tasting room.
We'll put that back up.
Tiny's bourbon tasting room,thank you.
Whiskey for that.
Walker says he's sipping wildturkey kentucky spirit, a 1776,
(47:22):
uh old pepper.
Um is a damn good choice, that's for sure.
All right, I'm enjoying myself, are you guys, thomas Anderson?
(47:43):
Many bottles but don't have anymictors.
Shelfers are too low proof forme.
Well, thomas, I've got somereally good mictors, so we need
to get together, that's for sureall right, and that was not a
chauffeur that actually came outof the uk on an auction that
(48:08):
nash was able to get me.
So that was pretty cool.
So now, so right now.
One, two out of three, threeout of four, three out of five,
four out of six, four out ofseven.
So now we go to shankshomestead sour mash whiskey 45.6
(48:33):
, 110 um.
This one is a limited editionwhiskey from mictors that honors
john shank who, as mentionedabove, founded this is the
distillery in 1753 that becameMichter's in the 20th century.
(48:56):
Sour mash whiskey is a methodwhereby a portion of previous
distilled whiskey mash, known asthe basket, is added to the
next batch.
It dates back to 1818,according to Kentucky Historical
Society.
This one is made with a lot ofrye in the mash bill.
(49:19):
Any mictors will do, but shankstruly commemorates American
heritage.
So here we go.
We have shanks.
It's over here, this bottle.
When I got it, I believe, bombergers, shanks, bombergers.
(49:43):
I was able to be in the rightplace at the right time and I
was so happy to get some Shanks.
And here we go to America.
Cheers, my guys.
All right, randy, do you havemictors?
(50:04):
Um, barrel strength, special atlimited editions, because those
are the ones.
If you got those to spare, I'mall in.
When you come up you can bringthat stuff up and we'll work out
deals.
God, that's delicious, it's sogood.
(50:31):
God, that's delicious, it's sogood.
The body at 91.2, that's whatthat is is so big on that and
they do it justice.
So we're at one, two, three, four out of five, four to six,
(51:00):
five out of seven, so we're fiveout of eight.
So now we've got uncle nearestsingle barrel.
Honestly, I've tasted unclenearest um at a couple whiskey
festivals and but I do not haveany of it.
Uh, I find I'm not a huge fanof tennessee, bourbon and uh,
(51:27):
jack daniels I'm okay with.
Okay, but the other stuff, because of kentucky, ohio,
wisconsin, michigan, all thesedifferent states that I'm in,
tennessee reaches a little bitfurther than it's a it's length.
(51:51):
So, uncle nearest, nearestgreen.
The enslaved man who taughtyoung jack daniels how to make
whiskey joined his businessafter the civil war, was a free
man and became the first headdistiller at jack daniels
distillery.
Thanks to the efforts of authorand entrepreneur Fawn Weaver,
(52:16):
nearest Green's legacy lives onat the new Nearest Green
Distillery in Shelbyville,tennessee.
It's a stunning campus thatoffers a distillery, tour, bars,
dining and other amenities.
So a little backstory.
I've got to taste it at Bourbon, on the Banks and meet the
(52:38):
people.
Never met the people that youknow, the high-end people.
So that's the goal, but at thesame time, I look forward to
what they put in the bottlewhile they're, now that they've
(52:59):
got a distillery and they'redistilling whiskey and bourbon.
Tennessee whiskey All right, this one again.
Uprising American Single Malt46.
(53:20):
This one again uprisingamerican single malt 46.
Sons of liberty spirits isnamed for the group of patriots
who fought the colonistsfreedoms during the american
revolution.
Based in South Kingstown, rhodeIsland, sons of Liberty
launched its first whiskeyUprising in 2011.
(53:41):
It's a stout beer brewed bySons of Liberty it's also a
brewing license and distilledinto a single malt.
The distillery makes a varietyof whiskeys today, but Uprising
continues to be the core label.
Interesting, never tasted it.
(54:04):
Wiggle Reserve, pennsylvania,straight Rye.
Pittsburgh-based Wiggle Reservenotes the western Pennsylvania
was the epicenter of Americanwhiskey distilling in the 18th
and 19th centuries.
In the 1790s, german immigrantfarmer Philip Wedge was among
the leaders of men who stoodfirm against the tax man in a
(54:27):
confrontation that led to theWhiskey Rebellion, with the
region's whiskey makersunsuccessfully faced off against
George Washington and histroops.
Wiggle was sentenced to hangfor the incident, but Washington
pardoned him.
Yeah, nobody should have hung, all right.
(54:47):
So the last but not least, andI have this, this is Yellowstone
Special Finishes cask finishedbourbon.
What could be more americanthan the beauty of yellowstone
national park?
Yellowstone whiskey waslaunched in 1872, the same year
yellowstone park was established, and the whiskey was named for
(55:08):
the national enthusiasm thatsurrounded the park's opening.
Yellowstone bourbon isrelatively small nowadays, but
the very underrated whiskey wasthe largest selling whiskey in
Kentucky during the 1960s andwas also popular nationally.
Yellowstone does a variety ofspecial releases and this rum
finish expression is amongrecent ones, and I have that
(55:35):
particular bottle.
Last but not least so, tonight, out of the top 12, I have one
of two, one of three, one offour, two of five, three of six,
seven, four of eight, five ofnine, five of 10, six of 11.
(55:56):
So I had 50% of them, plus Itasted.
I've tasted, I believe, sevenof 12.
Let's see, I did not taste theoverhaolt because it's a rye.
The George Washington, I'vetasted.
(56:16):
That takes me to 7 of 12.
Uncle Nearest, I've tasted.
That's 8 of 12.
So I've had 8 of the 12whiskeys on the 4th of July
whiskeys, and we will finish upwith this particular one.
(56:40):
You find the list If you searchfor Independence Day whiskeys
and bourbons.
You will find it, but it'sWhiskey Advocates list from 2024
(57:02):
, not 2025.
There you go, randy, uh, thomas, all right, so this Yellowstone
was signed by Stephen Fonte.
He represents the brandambassadorship of Yellowstone.
(57:25):
The man is spectacular.
He and Stephen Beam are suchgood friends who, basically
Stephen Beam and Stephen Fonte, are the bourbon stewards of the
Yellowstone brand.
They brought it back.
Limestone Branch brought thisbrand back from being one of the
(57:51):
most popular brands in the1960s and it had died out and
they put it back on the shelf, putting spectacular bourbon into
the bottle.
I picked this up last year onthe Scotchy Bourbon Boys bus
tour and it was an honor to haveStephen and I look forward to
(58:12):
meeting with Stephen againsmoking a Rocky Patel that
they're going to be releasingfrom the distillery.
I mean, there's nothing betterthan this and I admit
yellowstone it it.
It's america.
So I agree with that on thelist.
(58:33):
And there you have it.
I've got six of the 12 thatwere here.
I hope you enjoyed the podcasttonight.
I'm going to end it for thepodcast, not on Facebook and
