236. hello again! in this episode, i give you a very brief update on what's been going on over here: open nesting, turning 50(!), and earning a master’s degree. and now i'm back - rebuilding this podcast without a perfect plan.

some other topics i touch on lightly in this episode:

• reframing empty nest to open nest
• midlife, perimenopause, and body image issues
• saying no to protect my energy
• deepening my 1:1 coaching
• earning a master’s degree in sport and performance psychology
• action breeds clarity
• starting with what you know beats overwhelm
• where this podcast is going from here

in the spirit of celebration of completing my master's degree, i'm giving away a couple free coaching sessions with me. I have two separate posts on instagram and I'm asking you to comment. I will randomly draw one name from each of those two instagram posts.  those two people will each win a free coaching session with me... open until november 2nd.

here are the links for those two instagram posts:

post one - share a recent win you are celebrating (this one has sound, so you might want to lower your volume)

post two - share a goal or project you want to work on

text me with comments on this episode!

SPEAKER_00 (00:03):
Welcome to the Show Up Society podcast, where I help
you get super clear on what youreally want, so you can focus on
doing the things that reallymatter to you instead of getting
overwhelmed with all the extra.
I also help you learn how to bekinder to yourself so you can
overcome perfectionism, peoplepleasing, and your inner critic.
I'm Life and Business CoachTammy Bennett, and I'm about to

(00:24):
help you show up for the lifeyou want to live.
Hello, hello, hello, friend.
If you're new here, welcome.
And if you have been a listenerof this podcast any time since
it started way back in 2019,welcome back.
I am so happy to be back, andI've missed you all so much.
So a lot has happened since theuh during the break that I took

(00:47):
from this podcast, and it's waytoo much to cover, obviously, in
this episode, but I'm sureyou're going to be hearing about
all the things in futureepisodes.
So I'm just going to give you afew brief highlights to sort of
bring you up to date, realquick.
My husband and I became opennesters.
Our oldest son graduatedColumbia and is now in paramedic
school in New York City.
We have a daughter who's ajunior at Columbia studying

(01:09):
architecture and film andrunning cross country and track
for Columbia.
And our youngest daughtergraduated high school and is
running cross country and trackat Georgetown.
So you may notice I said webecame open nesters instead of
empty nesters.
And I like that term so muchbetter.
I actually got it from myhusband who actually said it by
accident once when we weretalking about uh in the lead up

(01:31):
to it, he's like, you know, weare we're about to become open
nesters.
And I was like, oh, opennesters.
That sounds so much lighter andnot as sad as empty nesters.
And he didn't even realize hehad said it, but I adopted the
phrase, and now that's sort ofhow we think about it.
Um, but so much of a lighter wayto think about it.
Although I will say this newseason of our lives has been so

(01:56):
much harder than I thought in alot of ways, but that's gonna be
for a future episode.
Um, what else is new?
I turned 50, so I am now in thethroes of paramenopause and have
been.
If you've been around thispodcast, you know that.
I'd love to share it with you.
Um, but I am dealing with allkinds of body stuff and body
image stuff and aging andmortality and feeling old and

(02:20):
irrelevant and all the thingsthat uh mostly come from society
and our culture of uh how tothink about women and aging.
But I'm sure that's gonna be ona future episode of the podcast,
also.
Also, in this break, I had tocut some projects short.
So especially what hard was mehaving to say no to some

(02:42):
speaking engagements that I, youknow, normally am very
interested in.
And I also had to end my dailypodcast.
And both of those things feltreally hard.
Um, but at the same time, Ibuilt up my one-on-one client
roster to the biggest it's everbeen.
And so I think during this time,I just learned a lot.

(03:03):
I already knew, but I learned alot more about checking in on my
personal capacity, and and bythat I mean my mental capacity,
physical capacity, my time, myenergy, my emotional capacities.
Um, I learned a lot more aboutchecking in on those before
saying yes or no toopportunities and just seeing
like, is this going to put meinto a state of exhaustion or

(03:25):
burnout?
And um, if it is, then I'm gonnasay no to it.
So I learned a lot that I thinkuh is gonna be really useful for
me going forward.
And I'm sure I'll talk aboutthat on a future episode as
well.
Um, other big news, I completedmy master's degree.
I now have a master's degree insport and performance
psychology.

(03:45):
And what that basically means isthat what I already have been
doing for 18 years with helpingpeople get out of their own way
and perform better, whatevertheir goal happens to be, uh,
now that same thing that I'vebeen doing is just a lot more
um, I'm a lot stronger andpowerful in that, and I have
even more evidence to back itup.
Um, so that feels really good, but it was really more

(04:10):
emotionally taxing, morementally taxing, more physically
taxing even than I thought itwould be.
And I'm definitely gonna talkabout that on future episodes.
Uh, but for now, I amcelebrating that achievement of
achieving my master's degree atthe age of 50.
And I think, you know, obviouslycelebrating is more fun when we
do it with others.

(04:31):
So I am celebrating with you allhere on the podcast and also on
my Instagram and in mynewsletter.
And so I wanted to let you knowthat I am giving away a couple
free coaching sessions with me.
So if you are interested in achance to win one of those
sessions with me, I have twoseparate posts on Instagram and

(04:51):
I've asked people to comment, and I will randomly draw one
name from each of those twoInstagram posts, and the that
person that I randomly draw isgoing to win a free coaching
session with me, uh, one foreach post.
So I'm gonna put the links tothose two Instagram posts in the
show notes here to this episodeso you can find them easily and
you can go comment on them for achance to win, but also just so

(05:14):
I know how you're doing.
I want to know what your recentwins are.
I want to know what you'recelebrating about yourself, and
I want to also know what's nextfor you.
What are you working on?
Um, and so the that sort ofcontest is going to be open
until November 2nd.
So if you're listening to thisbefore November 2nd, get over
there and leave a comment.

(05:35):
Um, okay, so let's talk aboutthis podcast for a second.
So I decided on a whim today uhthat I was gonna change the
podcast cover and I changed theintro and I changed the intro
music.
And other than that, I don'treally have much of an idea for
what this podcast is gonna be inthis, you know, this rebooted

(05:56):
version in 2025.
I am not sure if I want to domore frequent mini episodes or
if I want to do weekly orbi-weekly longer episodes.
I don't know if I'm going tohost guests or if I'm just gonna
go solo.
I don't know how long I'm gonnakeep doing this podcast.
Um, but here's the thing I tellmy clients and advice that I
also live by myself is you donot have to have all your ducks

(06:19):
in a row before you startsomething.
You don't have to know all thesteps, you don't have to know
the process, the whole, youknow, start to finish.
You don't have to know all thecourse of action that you're
gonna take.
All you need really is to trustyourself that you're going to
figure it out.
And you have to have a prettygood idea of where you want to
end up.
That may change over time, butat least to start to take those

(06:40):
first few steps, it really helpsto know where are you going?
What do you want from this?
And from there, you take onetiny action and then you take
another tiny action and you keeptaking tiny actions over and
over and you figure out, youfigure it out as you go.
So you've heard that term maybeaction breeds clarity.
Well, you learn the most aboutwhere you want to go and what

(07:03):
you want to do and who you wantto be by choosing something and
taking steps forward, and thentaking steps forward, and then
taking steps forward, right?
So I also teach people when youfeel a little overwhelmed with
options and you're not reallysure where to start or which one
to choose, what I say is tostart with what you do know.
So a lot of times we tellourselves, I don't know what I

(07:24):
want this podcast to be.
And I just gave you that wholeparagraph.
I don't know what I want thispodcast to be.
I don't know if it's gonna besingle or guest episodes, I
don't know how long I'm gonna doit, I don't know how long each
episode is gonna be.
I gave you a list of I don'tknow's, and that's what people
usually do, right?
We start with what we don'tknow.
Instead, what if we start withwhat we do know?
What do we know and what do wewant?

(07:46):
What do we know about what wewant?
So, what do I know about thispodcast?
What do I know that I do wantfrom this podcast?
Well, I know that I enjoy theconnection it brings.
I know that I really missed itwhile I was taking a break.
I know that I have a millionideas for topics.
And side note here, I want tothank you so much to my
newsletter readers who wrote into me with some brilliant

(08:08):
requests for what they want tohear on the podcast.
Uh, I had sent out an email acouple of weeks ago and I asked
people, what would you like tohear on the podcast if it does
come back?
And I had so many people writeback, and I made a whole
spreadsheet of those ideas, andI'm going to be working through
that list as we go along.
Um, but anyway, so I know that Ihave a ton of ideas.
I feel like I am never going torun out of ideas for what we can

(08:30):
talk about together on thispodcast.
I also know that I enjoy beingauthentic and I enjoy sharing
helpful tips, both practical andwoo.
Um, I know I like being able tohelp people for free.
Like there's no cost to listento this podcast, and I really
like that idea that I can helppeople at no cost to them.
And I also know that it feelsmore important than ever for us

(08:53):
to take up space and to put ourvoice out into the world.
Um, so for now, using all ofthose things that I know, I am
going to be posting episodesweekly for now.
I would love to hear from youwhat you would like to hear.
I would love for you to share itwith people who may be
interested in it because I feellike, you know, the algorithm
has probably gone to sleep on mesince I haven't been producing

(09:16):
episodes in quite a while.
So it may take a little energyfor that algorithm to start up
again and to help this podcastgrow.
So I would love it if you couldshare this podcast with uh
people that you know that mightenjoy it or might appreciate it.
So yeah, here we are.
The podcast is starting again.
I know this episode was justsort of like a hey, I'm back,

(09:36):
and we'll see you next week kindof episode.
But I just wanted you to knowthat I am back and sort of uh a
brief highlight of where I'vebeen.
And for now, I'm just gonna keepplugging away one week at a time
and we'll see where this goes.
Uh so I will see you next week.

Instagram posts and leavecomments on those because I

(09:58):
