S5 E2 - Best Romance Books 2022 - What's the Best Genre Today to Write if You Wanna Be an Author

The best romance books in 2022 are one of the best selling genres. But, what are the other high ranking genres to consider writing. When making this podcast, I have also taken into account subgenres. So let's look at them and see if the book you wish to write falls into one of these categories. FIRST IS ROMANCE – CONTEMPORARY AND HISTORICAL Romance is always one of the top-selling book genres and has been that way for many years. In fact, it has never tumbled out of the top five bestselling book genres in many, many years. Romance books can be categorized by having an emotionally pleasing and often cheerful ending. These books take the book lover on a journey where they become empowered in the characters' love stories. Many subgenres in romance are constantly challenging the top spot. At this time, the most popular subgenres are either contemporary romance or historical romance. Contemporary romance are those set in the present time. Other novels set anytime after World War II would qualify. Because it is more current, you are free to explore the themes and ideas of current events. 2. CRIME AND THRILLERS Crime and thriller and suspenseful romance seems to be the three most popular genres in fiction books. While romance tries to give readers a warm, fuzzy feeling inside, thrillers engulf the reader into the darker side of life. 3. RELIGIOUS AND SELF-HELP These books have a large following, both as eBooks and printed copies. People are definitely more interested than ever before in improving themselves… finding their faith, or asking for forgiveness. Religious books are self-help books, but they’re founded on religious principles. FAITH – SEVENTY TIMES SEVEN, SEEING THE POWER OF GOD AND GENESIS all fall under this category. Faith finds forgiveness. Seeing the Power of God finds Christianity and Genesis. W 4. CHILDREN'S BOOKS – HUMOR Children's books are very, very popular in both print and eBook versions. Children on the most part read more books than adults. This is because it’s fun for them to get lost in an imaginary world. Anything that gives a spark to a child's sense of adventure and creativity is something they’ll enjoy reading. In terms of age, the sweet spot is children between ages of eight and twelve. Even books for younger kids are still top-rated. Adding a funny side to kids' books is a rising trend. Kids love to laugh. Two books in the Demon Bunny Chronicles Series meet this criterion. One is called HIDDEN WATERFALLS, AND THE OTHER IS SISSY'S IN TROUBLE by Vanessa Jean Shockley. Hey, honestly, who doesn't love a good laugh?! 5. FANTASY AND SCIENCE FICTION – YOUNG ADULT Booklovers of this genre are incredibly loyal to it. There are many subgenres, but books geared toward young adults have become very popular. Most of the stories in these type of books take place in other worlds or right here on our own earth while twisting the action around a bit. About half of the books on the twenty bestselling books are from this genre. Think The Hobbit, or Lord of the Rings, or even The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe. If you’re worried that you will have to compete with these large titles, then there's some good news. About 1/2 of this genre's total book sales were self-published. So in my portfolio, such books as OMEGA OR CRUX ANSATA OR THE STORM LORD TRILOGY ALL FALL IN THIS CATEGORY.
