SPEAKER_00 (00:27):
The Travel Addic
Podcast, stories from the host.
The spoken word to the writtenword, volume one and volume two.
Hi there, Malcolm Teesdale here.
You're probably wondering whatI'm talking about.
Well, I made this bravedecision.
Did these podcasts, and I stilltoday see many people, wherever
(00:50):
they may be, could be sitting onthe beach, could be at an
airport, could be on a plane, could be on a train, reading
from a book rather than haveplugs in their ears listening to
a podcast.
So in my quest to support that,I decided to write a book.
And uh taking the transcripts ofthe podcast.
Now, volume one and volume twoare basically uh stories by me,
(01:12):
the host, and I sometimes talkabout just travel experiences,
general stuff on my podcast.
Most of the time I have guestson.
Well, guest podcasts are goingto be come up in volume three
and volume four later on in theyear.
But I start off with volume one, volume two, and it's just me
yakking, talking about escapadesaround our beautiful planet.
(01:35):
Volume one, let me give you abrief scenario of what I'm going
to talk about here.
I cover the country of Bhutan,Krakow Poland, Kiev and Ukraine,
Vilnius Lithuania, the Wang ProBang in Laos, Stockholm, Sweden,
the Mongolian wilderness, Oscarin Russia, and country in
(01:58):
Myanmar.
I look into my escapades in theNamibian desert.
I look at Palawan, which is anisland west of the Philippines,
Pataya in Thailand, which isknown as the world widest place,
worth reading just to know aboutthat.
Also Puket Thail, which is amajor island, very favourable in
(02:21):
that great country.
Ljubljana in Slovenia, SaintPetersburg in Russia, a journey
to see the Taj Mahal in Agra,India.
I also look at Raja Ampat, whichto me is the best diving
location in the world, theworld's most biodiverse marine
park.
Raja Ampat is in Indonesia.
(02:43):
Next up is what I call chasingShangular, is my visit to Lhasa,
Tibet.
Not the easiest place to get to,but I made it.
Next up is the city of Angels, basically called Angelese City
in the Philippines.
Bit of a wild place, to say theleast.
(03:04):
My trip to Victoria Falls again, and returning to one of the
natural waters of the world inthe country of Zambia and
Zimbabwe.
Then I got back in time.
Business trip.
I went on one to Buenos Aires,Argentina.
I did a lot of global business, and it looks at my visit there.
Obviously, people remember theFalklands War between Britain
(03:27):
and Argentina, and also The Handof God Gold by Diego Maradona.
I went there to meet Argentinianbusinessmen, and it was a great
experience.
Berlin, great capital ofGermany, so deep in historical
issues.
So trip to the island ofSippenan, which is in Borneo,
(03:51):
which is another basically greatdiving spot, sunken volcano,
famous for large schools offish.
Next up is my trip to Rio deJaneiro on a business trip,
where I was called the Gringo bythe locals.
Anyway, next up, Chiang Mai inNorthern Thailand.
My time up there doing some ricefarming with the locals.
(04:15):
Final chapter of volume one iscalled The Adventure Neb Ends,
and that's about basically asummary of just me and why I
keep doing what I'm doing.
On to volume two.
This is primarily about mycruise ship activities, because
I do a lot of speaking, butvarious cruise lines at
(04:35):
locations around the world.
So my first chapter here isabout the Caribbean.
Yes, I'm on a cruise shiptravelling around the Caribbean,
going to some sort of islandsthat people don't normally go
to.
So it's my talk about travel anddiscovery in the Caribbean.
Next up is my trip from theCaribbean to the Arctic.
(04:56):
Yes, I was down in theCaribbean, and then I decided to
go up into Scandinavia, theNordics, and to the most
northerly humid settlement inthe world, from a hundred
degrees to twenty degrees, andthe trip between the two places,
including a cruise between.
Next up, I was on atransatlantic cruise, which left
(05:19):
out of Miami, went across theAtlantic Ocean, then I was asked
to stay on board for a while, and then we'd crossed the
Mediterranean Sea.
A month at sea, me talking, anduh landed up in Athens, Greece.
Next chapter.
Personal opinions.
Yeah, a lot of that in thisbook.
The question of which is thegreatest country in the world.
(05:42):
Asia for a month.
Yes, I spent a month in Asiajust uh on a cruise, and then uh
I got off and uh went touringmyself personally, so that was
great.
Music and travel, they go handin hand.
You ever been in a place and youhear a piece of music and you
hear it later on in life, andimmediately the place you're at
(06:03):
comes back to your thoughts.
Absolutely.
Music and travel, they'reconnected.
Near misses, I've had a few.
It's all about risk timingduring travel, yes.
So I lay um talk about somerisks I've had, near misses, uh,
which I'm still alive today, soobviously I survived.
Never too old for adventure isone of my lectures.
(06:27):
And it's all about convincingpeople it doesn't matter how old
you are, you are never too oldto get out and about and go to
some adventurous places on theplanet.
Next up, there's about anincident many, many years ago at
the parking lot in AtlantaAirport.
Yeah.
I arrived at the airport inplenty of time to make my
(06:48):
flight.
Anyway, I missed it based on thefact that I'd moved my car in
the car park and landed upoutside the car park.
Well, it's weird, but you'llhave to listen to it.
Next up, thought-provokingplaces around the world.
Places you go to that's justmakes you think a little bit of
you know, could be depressing, could be memories, you know,
(07:10):
they're thought provoking.
Yes, I do have my favouritehotel and resorts in the world.
I've stayed at a few places, asyou know, I've stayed at one
star, five star luxury places,I've even camped, you know.
So I talk about my favouritesaround the world.
Next up, islands.
Each island in the world has itsown personality, history,
(07:31):
geography, and uh they're worthgoing to.
Culture, of course.
So I name my favourite islandsin the world.
Travel addiction.
Yes, I'm a travel addict.
I blame my parents for it alittle bit.
No cure for wantal, as they say.
So this is a chapter abouttravel addiction.
(07:52):
And once you sort of hear aboutthis or read about it or listen
about it, then you'll understandthat you could be a casualty as
well.
Beneath the surface, well what Imean is an overview of my scuba
diving experiences around theworld.
I have my top three, which arerecognized as the top three in
the world, but I dive in placesaround the world.
(08:15):
And yes, it's a world few eversee.
So the best of the best.
The Nordics.
Why are they known as thehappiest places in the world?
Well, they are.
There's a reason for that.
Okay?
And you know, Nordics, obviouslyGreenland, Iceland, um, Norway,
Sweden, Denmark, Finland, etc,and the other territories of
(08:38):
those countries.
Next up, a day of airportmishaps.
On my way from Milwaukee throughAtlanta to the islands.
Yes, it's the only time I'veever been last on a plane twice.
Never before up until this time.
There's a reason behind that.
You'll have to listen to it.
Now I've been some places thatjust seem really sacred, like
(09:00):
there's churches and religiousareas in the world.
So I list my favourite sort offavorite, but I what I feel are
the most sacred places on theplanet.
Up next, my favorite encounterswith the wonders of Mother
Nature.
There are some wonderful placesaround the world.
I'm going to list my favourites.
Up next, my favorite capitalcities in the world.
(09:23):
And I'll go into that in alittle bit of detail.
Might surprise you.
Up next.
Two nations divided by a commonlanguage.
That's the name of it.
It's part one and part two.
Yeah, I'm bilingual.
I've lived across the pond, theAtlantic Ocean, both sides got a
major part of my life.
So for Americans travelling overto Europe or Britain, and the
(09:45):
British travelling over toAmerica, I'm going to sort of
tell you a little bit aboutthat.
And things to be you know, beware of, you know, and
accents, sayings and all that.
It's sort of humorous, really.
Quite bizarre.
Up next is still on the book itlist.
Yes, I've got one.
Adventure book it listprimarily, but I'm gonna do it.
(10:06):
My list keeps getting longer.
Mm-hmm.
Up next, an enlighteningjourney.
This is about the book I wrote afew years ago, Religion,
Spirituality and the Way of Lifein the Himalayas.
I spent quite a bit of time inthe Himalayas, so I mingled with
the locals, was high up in themountains, learned how they
lived and worked, and are theyhappy?
Well yes they are.
(10:27):
Next up, Miles Mishaps, aninternational mayhem.
Mistakes I've made along theway, and yes, I'm still alive,
as you know, but it's worthtalking about.
My first book I ever wrote wasTravel Diaries of an Atypical
Businessman.
And this episode is about that.
(10:50):
And uh it's sort of when Istarted to travel overseas on
business, some of the lessons Ilearned, some of the stupid
mistakes I made, and all that.
Finally, two chapters, opinions, the good, the bad and the ugly.
Obviously you know what that isabout travel.
And last one, a few personalopinions about the stuff, the
best of, the worst of, you know, and uh worth checking out.
(11:14):
That's it, folks.
Hope you enjoy those two books.
If you get a chance to uh readthem, and or just listen to the
podcast.
