(02:05):

DeMarco with me tonight. And justbefore we get going, guys on the
topic which you probably guess based onthe title of this episode, want to

(02:25):

Patreon and excited to bring on severalpeople over the last week and I think
you'll enjoy it. But tonight we'regonna be talking about the United States Championship,
the Intercontinental Championship, where they're at, where we think they could be
going with that, who could bethe next champions and also El Sky,

(02:49):
which I'm really excited to be talkingabout with you too, because I don't
think we've done a whole lot withthe women's division, specifically on SmackDown,
So I'm really excited to be talkingabout these things. How you doing,
man, doing well? I hopeeveryone enjoyed my teaser episode, I guess
as we prepare for the inaugural episodeof me hosting after Dark, looking forward

(03:09):
to really spicing things up over onPatreon. Obviously it's not going to be
on the free feed, so I'mhoping as many people get over there as
possible to check out pardon Me,what we have in store over for everyone
on the Patreon side of things, and this kind of this this repackaged version

(03:30):
of after Dark, but I amreally looking forward to getting into it tonight
with our discussions about the mid CarChampionships, Yeah, definitely, this is
something again we don't do a wholelot of focusing on this, and while
the main event scene kind of reshufflesitself and we wait for Roman to return,
and we wait for Seth Rollins toidentify his next opponent, which may

(03:52):
come or should come on Money atRaw. As it's being recorded right now,
we don't really get a whole lotof time to talk in depth about
the US and owner Continental. Solet's do it, and then towards the
back end we'll talk about EO.Sky. And so let's start with the
start with the United States Championship. In your condinal as a whole, where
do you think or how do youfeel about these championships in terms of the

(04:16):
value that they hold right now?Well, let's start with the Low Hanging
Fruit and the Intercontinental Championship. Whenwas the last time the Icy Championship felt
this important? And honestly, itwould probably go back to WrestleMania thirty one
when they had the seven men laddermatch. And that's not even suggesting that

(04:36):
it was because of who was holdingit. I believe Wade Barrett went in
as the Icy Champion and Daniel Bryanwalked out as the Intercontinental Champion. But
it was more just the importance ofit opening the show a very good WrestleMania
two WRESTLEMEA thirty one, and inthe build up to the pay per view
so many of those key wrestlers kindof vying for it. I believe Dean

(04:57):
Ambrose was in that match too,say Wade Barrett, Cody Rhodes then known
as Stardust, Luke Harper was justa really cool vibe going into that pay
per view. But since like werebefore that and thinking about one singular champion
making it feel that important, Iguess the miss in twenty sixteen when he

(05:19):
really went out of his way tokind of like legitimize how important that the
title should feel. But even thoughthe Miss and I have to give him
flowers, I think he did anamazing job in twenty sixteen twenty seventeen when
he was really prioritizing in that championship, never really brought it to where it
was now. And we've had greatIcy champions over the years, like Roman

(05:42):
has been Icy Champion. Seth Rawlinshad a good run with after winning it
at Wrestling at thirty four and holdingit through the summer of twenty eighteen.
Like we've had big names hold thater Connell Championship, Finn Balor, Bobby
Lashley, Dean Ambrose, but itjust felt that creatively, it was all
was taking a back seat. Andnow we have Gunther, the longest reigning

(06:03):
Intercontinental champion in history, and itfeels like, even on a show where
you have a world championship and sethRawlins holding that, it just feels like
one of the most coveted prizes inthe business. And I really have to
give Triple H's flowers on this thathe's done an amazing job not only legitimizing

(06:23):
the championship but making the title holderin Gunther, feel super, super important
and even to a point where Idon't mind it being defended on Monday Night
Raw or Free TV because of howgood of a job they've done building it
up. Yeah, I've kind ofbeen softened to the whole you know,
championship matches on Free TV. I'vethrown the white towel on that one.

(06:46):
It's it's here to stay. Butwith Gunther, I mean this, dude,
you and I have sung his praisesfor months and months and months and
months, and it's just continuing toprove itself every week. This man on
the microphone. Even his cronies, which are you know, leaps and bounds
behind him in terms of star power, have added to his character. The

(07:10):
whole entrance hall about respect, hardnose, throwback star that has done nothing
but add value to that belt everysingle time that he speaks and holds the
belt and has a match. Andas you said, I don't know the
last time that somebody made this beltfeel that important. I mean, I'm

(07:30):
thinking back to like Chris Jericho inthe early two thousands, I'm thinking back
to, Yeah, the Mis dida decent job. Sean Michaels in his
heyday was a great intercontinental champion. The Rock in his own right was a
great intercontinental champion before he started reallydiving in with the stone Cold feud in
the ninety seven time frame. Andso there's been some great ones, and

(07:53):
you know, Gunther is right upthere and arguably in the top three.
I understand that the total days he'snumber one, But the subjective part of
this of who is the most valuableor who had the best run, of
course extremely subjective. Gunther has tobe in the conversation. Now, this
dude has completely taken the Intercondal Championshipby the Horns and just driven it to

(08:18):
the goal line. A little bitof a football reference for those of you
on this Monday night football game goingon right now. But right now we
have a brilliant run as champion withGunther. I have no complaints about the
way that they've booked him. Ithasn't been totally perfect, but this is
as good as you could imagine itbeing. And I mean, looking forward,

(08:43):
this is maybe what I'll pose toyou. Who or would you,
before this year is over have himdropped the belt. He's now crossed the
finish line. He's now the numberone running, longest reigning Intercondal champions,
so they now they've got there,But would you take the belt off him

(09:03):
before the end of the year oreven before WrestleMania forty And if so,
who the heck would that be?I feel like between now and the Rumble
you can afford to drop the beltye off him. And it's just because
I think eventually you're going to haverun your course as what you can do
with him as i C champion. As much as I love long title reigns

(09:26):
as much as I love them, prioritizing and elevating the Intercontinental Championship, it
will never be on par with theWWE Championship or a world title reign like
we're seeing Roman reigns go on.And I do think that you can make
other wrestlers feel or be elevated ratheras much as Gunther. Maybe not to

(09:46):
the same extent, like not everyone'sgoing to break the record, and not
everyone's going to have that cachet orit factor like Gunther, but you can
certainly elevate some superstars. I mean, I originally wanted to say Drew McIntyre,
but I feel like he has biggerthings ahead of him, Like I
feel like a world title heel runfor Drew is in the cards sometime in

(10:07):
the near future. I mean,Chad Gable is a decent is a decent
option, but I mean I thinkthat Chad Gable has kind of found his
home as like an enhancement talent onsteroids in a lot of way, or
at least until they break him offfrom the Alpha Academy. And to be
honest, I really do like theAlpha Academy. I just feel like there's

(10:28):
something more there with Chad Gable, even though he has been awesome as my
cats fight in the background. I'msorry about that, but you're definitely going
to have to find someone who's worthyof dethroning Gunther. And I look at
the SmackDown roster, I look atthe Raw roster, and there isn't a
name that just screams that they arethe ones to do it except for one.

(10:54):
And it would be kind of comingfull circle. And we've talked about
this before. It would involve himchanging brands, but I feel like the
best guy to do it, andit would be kind of poet I think
would be Shamus m That absolutely wouldbe and perhaps they do initiate another trade.

(11:16):
Now he can't be part of thistrade because the trade already went from
SmackDown to Raw and now somebody fromRaw and he's come to SmackDown, and
you know that that's throwing people upin arms about who that could be.
But Shamus, if they want togo back there and have an quote interpromotional
match, even they could do itif they want to. If they want
to do it on separate brands,WrestleMania's a time to do it. But

(11:39):
then you'd have to switch the USto the opposite brand. You can't ever
have those two on the same brandobviously, but I don't think anyone would
complain about that, and I thinkShamus is more than deserving. You've said
it so many times. Shamus isan unsung hero. He's been one of
the most foundational pieces of WWE thatso many of us take for granted.
And him and Gunther, as weknow, put on the Match of the

(12:01):
Year, uh you know, lastyear and was unbelievable in their in their
series of matches that they had.Obviously, their first one was just incredible.
Was it that clash of the Castlethat was our first one? Yeah,
So, I mean that was thatwas just incredible, And I think

(12:22):
it's a credible opponent. I don'tthink it would hurt Gunther to drop it.
And honestly, whenever Gunther does dropthe belt, I honestly look at
this and say, well, thatmeans that Gunther's moving to the next level
that I think they're looking at Guntheras a future world champion and he could
be the next one. If Drewdoesn't turn heel and Gunther drops the icy
belt. If Gunther drops the icybelt, I'm gonna say, everybody,

(12:45):
look out, because Gunther's now goingto be going for Seth Rollins in that
world title. So if they don'tput the slide Drew into that slot,
I think Gunther after he drops it, could go into that slot and face
seth Rollins if they want to dothat sometime at the end of this year
or maybe into next year or WrestleManiaseason. But outside of that, if
they're not going to do something witha trade or Shamus, I mean,

(13:07):
I'm looking at the roster. Ihonestly don't know who is credible to do
this. You could have Cody Rhodes, but we all know Cody Rhodes is
destined for Roman reigns in that championshipthat I won't even get into. But
so he's out of the picture. He's at that next level I don't even
know. So like that, thatis probably your only option unless you have

(13:28):
Sammy Zan or Kevin Owens go offon their own and dethrone Gone Throther that
way. I just wanted to meansomething like, I want the victory of
him or the defeat of him, lose it and feel as equally as important
and significant for the guy winning it, and shame is winning the one title

(13:48):
that he's never held in wwe wouldfeel that significant it would make him a
Grand Slam champion. I mean youcould also make the same case for John
Cena, which I mean, it'sabsolutely flabbergating to think that John Cen has
never held the Intercontinental Championship, Butit just doesn't feel the same as it
would for Shamus, just because, like, I feel like Shamus has more

(14:11):
tread left on the Tigre than JohnCena, and that doesn't it's not saying
a whole lot because of how fardown the road Sina already is, but
I just feel like Shamus has earnedthat because of what he's done the last
twelve months. And I believe evensaid out of character on a few months
ago about how you know, theydidn't take advantage of how much steam he

(14:31):
caught over the last twelve months. And even though like obviously gun the hole
in the Intercontinal Championship was probably thebest decision, there was a lot more
there with Shamus's run, and Ithink that you could kind of salvage that
here that he was the one whoinitially elevated Gunther to where he is,
and then he was the one tofinally dethron Gunther after Gunther achieved the incredible

(14:54):
feed of becoming the longest ringing icychampion, and then that victory would make
Shamus finally hold a singular's championship. And I believe the last time Shamus held
the singles title was did you notdefeat Matt Riddle for the US title at
Wrestleme at thirty seven? I feelthat's the last time he held a singles
championship. So if you would, and it gives Shamus something to do as

(15:16):
well, Like I mean, thebrawling brutes feel stale on SmackDown, They
feel kind of lost in the shuffleon SmackDown, And even Shamus is a
single star, Like how many topbaby faces is he behind on SmackDown?
Like you have Bobby Lashley, youhave aj Styles, you have La Night
Like he is kind of really lostin the shuffle on SmackDown, Rain,

(15:37):
Mysterio, Santos Escobar, Like thelist goes on and on. So maybe
him shifting to Monday Night Raw insome former fashion to trade whatever and becoming
the intercontinental Champion. I think thatwould be something that would really reignite his
character, give him something, afresh set of opponents to work with,
and it would make the defeat ofGunther fell significant as well, and it

(16:00):
would probably make people feel okay withGunter drop in the championship because I think
people would be very interested in ababy face run for Shamus as the intercondal
champion. Well, let's just hopethat Cody can cash in more of his
political chips to make that happen. You, I mean, yeah, let's

(16:21):
ask him nice and make sure thatwe get what we want from Cody,
because you know he's pulling strings backstageto get people traded, So keep our
fingers crossed. But now you're right, I mean, in all seriousness,
you're right that Shamus is probably againgiven I know he's on the opposite roster,
but that really is out of thewhole roster, the guy that makes
the most sense, the guy that'sthe most credible. The way to reward

(16:45):
Shamus for you know, not justhis tenure, but what he means the
company. You know, when he'snot there, the brawling brutes are nothing.
I'm sorry, Like you look atthem when they came out this past
week. I mean there was justno reaction. I mean when they can
confronted the judgment day, I mean, there was just like the most lukewarm
sad pitiful reaction for the brawling roots, and you know it was because Shamus

(17:10):
is the heart and soul that it'slike it's the you know, the click
without aj styles, Like it's justthe good brothers, Like they mean so
much to that group that when youtake them out, it's just kind of
like your leftovers. It's it's it'sit's just the way it is. So
Shamus, though, going to toRaw to face Gunther would be amazing or
honestly, what if they just swappedthe ICY and US titles and Gunter comes

(17:33):
to SmackDown back to SmackDown and youhave very mysterio go to Raw. I
mean, you could do something crazylike that too. But there's a lot
I want to see about the UStitle too. But any wrap up on
the Icy No, just the factthat it probably hasn't been in the to
kind of build off of what myoriginal thought was the last time the ICY

(17:53):
Championship felt this significant and how muchit's kind of elevated the wrestler simultaneously with
the wrestler elevating the belt was probablyRandy Orton's run with it in two thousand
and four. Mmm. Oh,I forgot about that. Yeah, Oh
my gosh, that was prior tohim giving his updates about his shoulder injury.

(18:14):
What percentage of shoulder is, Paul, Yeah, yeah, that was
man, I forgot about that run. That's true. Lost him to Edge
at Vengeance two thousand and four, which was a pretty significant championship victory for
Edge because he had been dealing withwhat neck injuries for like the better part
or two years on and off. Finally comes to Monday Night raw and ends,

(18:34):
and I believe Orton held that beltfor like seven months or something.
So that's probably the last time Ican remember the Interconnell Championship feeling that important
and having a rising star hold thatbelt and make it feel that significant.
And you know, the other thingthat's making the only thing that's putting a
shadow on the run of Gunther withthe belt is the Roman Reigns run that

(18:56):
overshadows all runs. I mean,if you took the Roman Reigns run out
of this and you'd put that asideand it was just it didn't happen,
this would I think mean more becauseyou know, prior to the Roman run,
we would be like, oh mygod, four hundred, like you'd
be like how many days it feelslike forever Now it's kind of like,

(19:17):
oh good, a cool achievement. But look at how many days Roman's been
champion, right, We're coming upon eleven hundred days, you know,
So that that's the only thing thatis a drawback. It's it's just a
byproduct of the Roman Reigns run.Is all other runs and that they're talking
about on their own product are cannibalizedby Roman Reigns. Yeah, and a
champion who's never really there. AndI mean not to go into Roman and

(19:42):
Reigns diatribe, but like, howlong is he going to be non existent
right now? Well, I thinkhe's injured, to be fair, from
what we heard, he got injuredwith the in the Juso match. So
if that's true, you know, then I understand. But at the same
time time, would he be outanyway? As I've said before, he's

(20:03):
got a perfect schedule to nurse andinjury. We'd never know he's injured.
So I mean, he could beinjured, but he also could be out
regardless of he was in Well, well, that's my whole point is that
I don't think maybe he would showup on a SmackDown here and there.
But I don't think he was defendinghis undisputed championship at at fast Lane or
Payback. And you know, SurvivorSeries, you know, the last four

(20:27):
or five years has not well.I guess I believe they defended the I
think Brock defended the WWE Championship atSurvivor Series twenty nineteen against RAYM Stereo.
But I mean, aside from that, going back to twenty sixteen, that
typically has not been a pay perview where championships are defended. It's always
like Brand versus Brand or gimmick fiveon five matches or war Games last year,

(20:52):
so I mean, you could belooking at the Royal Rumble as the
next time that he actually defends hisundisputed championships. It's absurd. It's it's
just so it's absurd. I'm justgonna leave it there, and that's all
I have to say about it,because I will add about forty minutes of
the show. So is there apay per view between survir Series and Rumble

(21:15):
because there wasn't last year. Goodquestion, Good question. I'd have to
punch that into the Google machine.I don't know, So is there it's
a w W E p l Eschedule twenty twenty three should be pretty quick
here. So there, let's lookat the schedule. This was updated a

(21:37):
week ago. So this has thethe latest info fast Lane, Survivor Series.
Oh okay, so we do haveCrown Jewel and then this is it's
says it's uh, it doesn't givea date fast Lane in twenty twenty three,

(21:59):
then Survivor Series Crown Jewel. Holdon, uh, it's gonna be
held Okay November fourth, Okay,so that's series. Yeah, okay,
so that's actually before yeah, uh, Crown Jewel be held then yeah,
November fourth, So okay, Saturday, November fourth, Crown Jewel, it

(22:19):
will be held. You're held there, and then Survivor Series is taking place
No. November twenty fifth, soyeah, I don't see anything in December,
so it looks like they're following thesame schedule. Okay, So then
if that's the case, he willbe competing at Crown Jewel like one hundred
percent, Like there's no way hedoesn't defend at Crown Jewels. So that

(22:40):
I just wasn't They do usually havea Crown Jewel in late October early November,
but I just wasn't sure if therewas one this year. But if
there is, then yes, thenyou could probably pencil in his next defense
at Crown Jewel, Like I wouldbe absolutely floored if he doesn't defend the
title there. Yeah, the saudiasthave you know, unlimited funds, so

(23:00):
they'll pay enough to make a championshipmatch happen. I mean, there's no
chance of him losing it, whichalso is another been another complaint about the
run of Roman. But all right, let's let's get to the US title
and then we'll get to EO.So the US title, I mean,
obviously Raymi Stereos held it. He'sheld it for about a month, if
not exactly. And you know,I think that most fans are looking at

(23:23):
this run and saying to themselves,cool, it's it's a nostalgic It's a
nice nostalgic moment a guy that certainlyis more than deserving of it. In
raymis Stereo, many have speculated thatSantos Escobar could be the one to turn
on Ray and he still could. But with this run with raymis Stereo,
I mean, I think most fanslook at this and say, hey,
it's probably a short term run. It's weird to say that Ray is a

(23:48):
transitional champion, but in this stageof his career he kind of is.
I think that it was the bestthing in the world for Austin Theory to
take that to be to remove thatbelt from him. It's very rare that
we say, you know, it'llhelp somebody when they take a championship off
of them. I can't remember thelast time I've said that, but for
Austin Theory's sake, just to changehis identity and what he's doing and all

(24:12):
the all the stink that really resonatedoff of him after WrestleMania and the win
over at Sina that somehow tanked hiscareer, all of that. He just
needed a clean slate, and RayMysterio, I think, while he hasn't
done a ton, is not goingto hurt the United States Championship. How

(24:33):
do you feel about where the UStitle is right now? It's sad,
honestly, Like I'm not like,I'm definitely more I guess accepting of Ray
Mysterio now that he's broken away fromyou know, being best friends with his
son and getting piggyback to the ring, and I could appreciate the nostalgia,
and I do agree that Austin Theorydesperately needed that title off of him.

(24:59):
I just I really don't know ifRay Mysterio was the guy because it was
a very very sour or not evensour, just a boring flat run at
the end for Frost and Theory asthe US champion and it going to Ray
Mysterio. Just it just feels veryvanilla. And I just feel like that

(25:19):
championship, especially given all the midcarters on SmackDown, Like I think that
SmackDown has a lot of good singlesmid card guys like you look at Shamus,
even a Solo Sakoa, Santos Escobar, La Knight carrying Cross like,
I mean, even Edge, Iguess you could have put the title on

(25:40):
him. Now you have Bobby Lashleylike AJ styles as well. Like I
just thought that there were a lotbetter options to feel that title be more
important. And this is the onehiccup I think Triple H made with La
Knight. I think he could havewon the US title, like I think
Ela and I could have stood towin the US Championship. I gave it

(26:03):
a chance. I was convinced itwas gonna be Santos Escobar. They go
with Ray Mysterio and he hasn't beenbad. It's like you said, but
he's just kind of been there, and I'm not gonna lie. Like the
whole LWO thing has soured fast forme. I really preferred them as Legato
Delphantasma, Like full disclosure, Ithought they were way more badass. I

(26:23):
get why they turned them baby faceand made them the LWO, but the
whole like Santos Escobar basically making outwith Ray Mysterio's face every time he comes
out, it's kind of just gottena bit weird for me, if I'm
being quite honest with you, andit just feels it feels like the Mysterio
Family two point zero, but thesethis time they could actually wrestle. I

(26:45):
would have preferred it going on LaNight, and I think that what La
Knight would be doing with the Midsright now would feel a lot more important,
and then you could have Grayson Wallerand Austin Theory all back in the
mix for the US title. Sothat's where I would have preferred it to
be, because I look at what'sgoing on with La Knight and the Mis
and then the kind of involvement ofTheory and Waller this week, and I

(27:08):
just thought to myself, like, man, it would feel way more important
if there was a championship involved here, and the US title is just kind
of floating in obscurity on Raymisterio's shoulders. So I do think that there's a
lot of work to be done withthe US Championship, but it's not that
hard to get it to relevance. In my opinion, it was low hanging
fruit. I get why Triple Hwent the opposite direction, the slow burn

(27:32):
with La Knight. I just thinkthat now that we've seen the result,
probably would have been the best ideato put the US Championship on them,
and I think they will. It'sjust I think that right now you have
Ellie Knight tied up with them,is we have Raymisterio, who again is
in the lw O, which Iwould I would concur with that where you

(27:53):
know, it's not exactly the mostinteresting group. They did it out of
convenience of going to Puerto Rico earlythis year, and then the group just
kind of hung on, so weall know why they did it, and
and you know, they still geta decent reaction obviously led by Raymisterio,
and Raymisterio is always going to geta good pop. He's a legacy star
that can still go. And howhe's still performing at this level is really

(28:15):
kind of fascinating. How many howmuch mild he has on his body to
be able to perform at the levelhe does, where he barely has missed
a step. He's slowed down alittle, but nowhere near where he should
be given his age, and howmany matches and bumps he's taken. But
that said, you know, Idon't I don't hate him as champion.
I just don't think that he's needthere. I think, yeah, it's

(28:37):
weird. He's a he's a Hallof Famer, he is one of the
greatest of all time. But it'sweird that he's champion and like no one
cares, No one hates it,but like no one seems to care.
I fear feel strongly that, like, oh my god, this is the
best thing ever. This is great. Raymisterio as the belt, it was
a way I think, to getthe belt off of theory, but not
yet put it on night. Theydidn't. They weren't ready for night.

(29:00):
They have a plan in place, and clearly that we are in a holding
pattern with the miss and then whatever'snext for Night eventually sure he's going to
take the belt. Now, theinteresting part is if Night takes the belt,
is it going to be a oneon one match with Ray, because
then they risk the potential like, well, we love Ray's a legacy star,
and you know we want La Nightto win, but do we want

(29:21):
him to win against you know,Ray? So I've proposed a triple threat
where Ray is not involved. Wehave a third party heel at La Night
beats the heel. Therefore we getthe belt on La Night without having too
much of a conflict of well hebeat Ray and I don't you know,
I don't know if I like that. So that's it's really not difficult to
do. It's just in your mind. When do you think they pull the

(29:41):
trigger on an La Night US titlewin. Well, the NFL season is

(31:11):
which is available on Apple and Spotify. Check out the Air It Out
Fantasy Football League podcast. I thinkit needs to be sooner rather than later,
just because I don't think he'll stayin the mid card for a while.
And I think that La Night shouldn'thave a long run as you as
champion, as weird as that isto say, I feel like it should

(31:33):
be short and sweet, like hewins it at Payback or Crown Jewel and
he loses it by rumble and thenthat kind of shoots him off and cataputs
him into the main event. Becausesometimes it's better short and sweet. It
doesn't always have to be this megalong title reign of like a Roman reigns
or Gunther And I think that wasthe ultimate downfall of Austin theory is that

(31:57):
they kept that champion ship on him. I believe he won it at Survivor
Series last year and he just droppedit what like a month ago, so
that was what on a nine tenmonth long run, And I think that
was an example of sometimes trying tomake a run just long for the sake
of it isn't always the answer, and I don't think Ella Knight would be

(32:19):
that guy as well. I mean, the next person to have a long
run as US champion is obviously upfor debate. I feel like Grayson Waller
at this point has laid the foundationto maybe be that. But I mean
I think that La Night probably shouldwin it between now and Survivor series because
I don't think it should be anexceptionally long run. Yeah. The Grayson
Waller thing though, is interesting becausehe hasn't won a match yet to my

(32:43):
knowledge, I don't. I don'tthink he's won a single match now.
Granted his opponents have been big starsto megastars, so I no pun intended.
But that said, he hasn't wonyet. Like he's got a pretty
bad record on the main roster. So you know, if we're looking at
that, how I w W doesn'tcare so much about a win loss record.
It's just a little bit of well, what's your case, man,

(33:04):
you haven't won a single match yet, But I understand the idea of Grays
and Waller doing that. The thingwith La Knight, though, that you
bring up as a good point iswhile we're kind of looking at late we're
looking into the late twenty twenty three, which then you bleed into twenty twenty
four. We're looking at the Rumble, you know, and many people have
already months ago claimed that Eli Knightis the number one, not no more

(33:29):
contender, but the favorite, theheavy favorite to win the Rumble, and
rightfully so he is. The thingis, though you can't win the Rumble
is us champion. It's gets messy, you can't do it. So,
as you said, he if he'sgonna win it, he's got to have
a significant run of a few months. You gotta do it now. If
they don't, maybe he loses itat the Rumble and he's a surprise entrant

(33:50):
in the Rumble. You could doit that way with La Night because WW
is taking an interesting path with LaKnight's trajectory so far, a lot of
it hasn't been very predictable, buthis support continues. So yeah, that
that is something that they need toconsider. But if they have Laa when
the Rumble, well then where dothey go with you know, does he
face Roman? It all comes downto the Rock obviously on SmackDown, or

(34:15):
he could face the world champion onraw. You know, there's there's possibilities,
But I guess the question to youis if he drops it before a
rumble or at rumble he wins therumble, well, then who's La Knight
facing at WRESTLEMANI is he gonna facethe world champion? Is he gonna face
the end of the speeded Champion?Like? Where'd they go? I think
La Knights should be facing Roman Reigns, And I think that he's probably the

(34:38):
best candidate you've ever had to dethroneRoman Reigns because of how unique his meteorotic
rise has been very Daniel Bryan Ask, maybe not to the quite the same
level, but very very similar.A guy who just dug through the trenches
and worked his way up in itorganically has become a crowd favorite. That's

(35:00):
the way I would book it ifI was, you know, Triple h
head a creative. I worry thatthat's not going to be the case because
I feel like they are laying theseeds for or laying the groundwork, or
planting the seeds, whatever analogy youwant to use for Cody Rhodes dethroning Roman
Reigns at resume at forty, Yeah, he could go over to Monday Night

(35:25):
Raw and challenge you over the Worldchampion is I mean, I could see
something along the lines of La Knightand a heel Drew McIntyre. That for
sure is something that I believe theycould go down that path. I just
think that the La Knight deserves tobe in the actual main event. And
we all know that the World Championshipwill play second fiddle to Roman Reigns in

(35:49):
the undisputed Championship, which I understand. I just feel like La Knight is
deserving of the real spotlight, soI think it should be Roman Reigns.
But I feel like if they dopush him and have him when the rumble
and challenge for a world title,it will probably be against the Heel Drew
McIntyre on Monday Night Brawl. It'sfair, It's fair, and I would

(36:12):
love It's fascinating to think about whatthe production meetings are for La Night when
this whole thing started, and whattheir conversations were and how they had to
change their plans, but they didn'tdo it immediately, so they said they're
going to play the long game. It'd be fascinating to be a fly on
the wall or sneak into one oftheir zoom meetings or whatever they have,
and you know, just hear whatthey have to say about this whole thing,
and just to see and hear whattheir logic is, and it would

(36:37):
really be fascinating, because you know, with La Night, I think that
they're onto something major. You know, let's all hope and it's not just
a fad. I don't think LaNight's a fad. You know, we've
been through fads. We've been throughfandango and fandangoing, We've been through I
don't know whoever else was a flashin the pan, those those kinds of

(36:58):
things you can kind feel coming offMania, if they still have any kind
of momentum, maybe, but Idon't know. Lna feels like the real
deal. He is the best candidateright now to beat Roman Reigns. And
perhaps they do strike. But allright, well, any thoughts on the
US title wrap up before we getto the women's side of things. Just

(37:19):
the fact that they have a lotof work to do to getting it to
where the Icy Championship is. Ohyeah, no doubt. And the US
title was on a nice path withthe whole run with Bobby Lashly, Seth
Rollins held it for a hot minutethat program. I mean, they did
a great job and then all ofa sudden gets put on Austin theory and
it just especially after Mania this year, went into the into the Crapper,

(37:43):
I mean, and it's weird. No one would have saw that coming.
The Wind was supposed to project Austintheory and instead the follow up. I
blame a lot of this on thefollow up of Creative. They had like
no idea what they were going todo with theory afterwards, and that played
out on TV. So all right. The women's division, this is also
kind of weird. I feel thesame way with EO, Like I feel

(38:05):
like she wins the belt, shecashes in, and now she is going
to be facing OSCA. We knowthis, but she doesn't feel like she
is. It feels like they're tryingto use the belt to make her instead
of her trying to add value tothe belt. I'm never a fan of
that formula. At the same time, I understand stars need to be made.

(38:25):
With EO right now there, it'salmost like she's getting less attention as
the champion. It doesn't feel likeshe's getting the attention she deserves on SmackDown.
Instead, they're focusing on Charlotte andShotzi, and it's like, what
about your SmackDown Women's champion. Itfeels like she's being creatively ignored. And
it's not to say again that Oscaand EO are not going to be a

(38:47):
great match, but let me letme just toss it to you. Look,
I believe we talked about this whenshe won the women's briefcase and the
Money in the Bank briefcase, andI believe she was both of our picks
going in. We both agreed thatEO Sky was the correct winner for this.
But one thing I said was that, save for Carmela the inaugural money

(39:12):
in the Bank win winner among women, they always cashed in the briefcase within
like three months of holding it.And you've had Bailey Alexa Bliss cash it
in on the very same night, who Oscar was awarded the championship the next
night, on Monday Night Raw inthe briefcase because Becky Lynch was relinquishing it

(39:35):
due to her being pregnant last year? Was that the Nicky as Ash year
where she cashed it in like aftera month. I forget who won the
briefcase last year. But all thisto say is that they never took the
slow burned approach with the briefcase amongwomen except for the first time with Carmela,

(39:55):
and I really thought that was theapproach here with EO Sky, primarily
because they still had to do alot of character development with her and really
kind of legitimize her as a maineventor. Even though she has all the
potential in the world and I thinkthat she is going to be a main
eventor for a lot of years tocome, I didn't think she was quite
ready for that, and I thoughtthat you should have kept that briefcase on

(40:19):
her all the way until post WrestleMania. And also because you have the main
event caliber talent on SmackDown among thewomen. Okay, Bianca Bellier is taking
time off right now, but youhave Charlotte Flair, her returned, you
still had Oscar, you still haveBailey, Like you could have had that
championship rotate between those three women betweennow and next spring, and you could

(40:42):
have had Bailey as the Women's Worldchampion next year to kind of set up
that program. I like EO Sky. I thought she was the right person
to win the briefcase. I justthought the timing of her cashing and was
so off and low and behold ithas proven to be right because she has
kind of fell flat so far asthe women's champion. No, I'm with

(41:06):
you, and it's uh, thisis the time right now to strike with
EO if you're trying to get thefocus on her. Like you said with
Bianca, bel Air out. Youknow, the matchup with EO and Osca
is a good way to kind ofshift things in the women's division from just
Charlotte and whoever or Bianca and whoever. It's it's different players in there.

(41:27):
Obviously Osca has kind of been inthe main event perennially, but with with
EO, it's should be about buildingthat new star, building new stars,
and we all thought Bailey was goingto turn on EO and she didn't yet.
You know, Dakota Kai has beenessentially a you know, invisible I
mean, Dakota Kai doesn't say anything. All she does is stand there.

(41:50):
I'd like a little bit more involvementwith Dakoda. Where does she stand?
What does she think about this? But eventually damage Control should finally just dissolve.
But right now it's just it's alittle bit discouraging. If you're an
EO Sky fan, not that Ithink Oscar could win, but that they
haven't really done much with her.It feels kind of like a little bit

(42:13):
of a Ray Mysterio victory with theUS title. It's kind of like people
are like, like some something mostpeople are excited for. EO Eel's hard
to dislike by the way. EOSky is just a you know, you
notice they're putting her with Osca, who's a heel, and she is solidly
in that category as a heel rightnow. And you have the heel group

(42:36):
of the Damage Control in which EOSky is part of that group, and
yet they're putting him together because theyknow that I Ski is kind of a
baby face in that heel group, knowing that it's kind of like an acknowledgement
that, yeah, we know,we know that EO Sky is a fan
favorite even though she's in the heelgroup. But I'm waiting for the Bailey

(42:58):
turn. I'm waiting for her toscrew over Dakota Ka or screw over EO
EO. But I don't think it'sgoing to happen yet. It seems like
they're playing the long game there too. I'm just a little discouraged by it,
and I want more character development. As you just mentioned, it's it's
it's comes down to character development, and they've done so little of that with
EO. And suddenly you notice withwith Osca they're letting her speak. My

(43:22):
god, she can say more wordsthan nobody's ready for Osca. Who I
mean, It's just it was arevelation and I would like to hear more
from from EO. I want more. I don't care if they do a
little bit of the Shinsky tactic ofa pre made video with subtitles. I
don't care what they do. ButI like this new philosophy of you know

(43:43):
what, even those that don't speakEnglish natively, we're gonna let them either
speak and hopefully the crowd hears themthrough their accent, or we're gonna do
some work around like they did withShinsk. And I think that that will
really help EO Sky because she haslittle, very little development. I think
that's her biggest hindrance right now.And do you do you think it was

(44:04):
too much too soon with EO.That's too hard, that's too much to
tell right now. I think onceher title rain ends, I think we'll
be able to judge out a littlebit more because she became champion well like
a month ago, right, SoI think it's difficult to judge that until
the title rain ends, because hell, maybe things start to really catch on

(44:27):
in a month or so and peoplereally start to take off on EO and
the whole Bailey eventual turn on herwill happen and they get behind her,
momentum starts to build and they coulddo more character development. I'd say it's
too early right now, but ifher title ren ended tomorrow, then sure,
in the short time she's been champion, I would like, yes,
it was too much, too soon. And like you said at the beginning

(44:50):
of this, they seemingly cannot theycan't help but pull the trigger every time
a woman wins that championship or thatthat briefcase outside of Carmela that they cannot
help themselves just like, oh,woman's got it, pulled the trigger,
let's do it. They have nopatience, and I'm not sure why.
Sometimes letting that thing play out andmake fans guess and keep it going is

(45:14):
a lot of fun, and theyjust pull the trigger so quickly, even
that that same night They've done ita couple of times so yeah, that
that also would would help generally inthe women's division of just not cashing in
so damn quick. Yeah. Ijust I feel like they would have felt
way more significant had she held thebriefcase for like six seven months, Like

(45:35):
look at Damien Priest, like he'sheld it for a month and a half
longer than EO did, and italready feels more important. And I just
feel like you need to get thebriefcase to a point where people almost forget
about it, like just for peopleto just be like, oh, yeah,
he holds the briefcase whatever, andthen you capitalize. And that's what
to say. You can never havea same night cash in, like let's

(45:58):
say Dean Ambros from sixteen when hecashed it on seth rawlins. But I
just feel like, way too often, specifically with the women, they just
go right for it right away. And I thought Triple H would be more
patient with EO, because that haskind of been a hallmark of his like
being really patient even with like championshipsand long term storytelling. But it was

(46:19):
I get why they did it.Maybe the main event scene on SmackDown among
the women felt stale with Bianca belAir and returning Charlotte and obviously Oscar's title
rain was very lackluster. I justthought that there are other avenues, like
I would have liked to see aBailey World Championship run, like to be
honest with you, but I mean, maybe that's still in the cards.

(46:39):
Maybe she turns on EO. Maybethey're doing it in reverse as to how
I maybe thought that they were goingabout it. So I mean, like
you said, it's kind of anincomplete grade to this point. I just
think that they should have held offa bit. Yeah, that's what I'm
leaning, but I'll give my fullreport card once you actually get to the

(47:00):
point of her dropping it. I'mleaning that way, but things can change
because there's a lot we probably haven'tseen yet. But yeah, this is
this is It does feel rushed.I'm thinking maybe they had her cash in
so quickly because they're thinking, well, if we don't, then they get
later in the year. We don'thave plans for her towards WrestleMania. She's
got a kind of cash in in. Now lose it so we can get

(47:22):
it to the people we really wantit to for WrestleMania season. I mean,
I don't know if that was explicitlysaid or what. But that's sometimes
the way I look at it is, you know, when when you're six
months out, seven months out fromWrestleMania, you can still give somebody a
significant run, but having them dropthe belt before the you know, the
big time season begins and then youcan get the belt to who you want

(47:44):
it to really be, really beinvolved with. And so yeah, with
EO Sky Like, she's fun towatch. She certainly is very good in
the ring. I'm sure her matchwith Oscar will be just fine. But
it's it is, it's a itfeels a bit underwhelming right now. They
just kind of do things, butthey after the destination, they have no

(48:07):
follow up. It feels like followup has been a big problem for WWE,
especially when it comes to title changes, like you have EO win and
then there's not a ton of followup. She's just kind of there.
She's just like you know, thedesk in your office. She's it's just
there. You know, you don'tthink about it. And I shouldn't be
feeling that way. They've done thissomebody with Austin Orry and obviously how many

(48:30):
times I've brought that up with thewin over John c and there's no follow
up the women's tag titles, whichthat could be a whole another discussion.
They have people win and then there'sjust no follow up. They just go
off into you know, the thedust, into the into the sunset.
You don't see him again. Youknow. There was a time I think

(48:51):
was it the I don't know.I forget what WrestleMania was a couple of
years ago. Was it the tagteam championships were changed and that the men's
tag team championships were changed? Iforget who it was, and they just
went off and disappeared for like sixweeks. It's just sometimes there's just no
follow up. They just go,oh, all right, we did it.

(49:12):
They're champion, and then somebody says, wait, we gotta follow up.
There's got to be some kind ofplan, and they're like, oh
crap. It feels like that alot of times. So I don't know,
do you have any final thoughts here? All is? I just feel
like they need to give EO andthey made this, they made this mistake
with Austin. Theory is that theyneed to give her like an actual foe,

(49:35):
like enough of this, just likeShotsy and Charlotte and tag team matches
and is it Bailey versus Shots?Okay, is it Bailey versus Charlotte like
that? And I think that wasthe main issue with Austin theories run as
US Champion is that he never reallyhad a foe, Like look at Gunther.
We just talked about it. Thefoundation of his run as intercontin Old

(50:00):
Champion was based off of that amazingprogram in series of matches he had was
Shamus, which kind of spiraled offinto the brawling brutes against Imperium, Like
that was the foundation of this historictitle run and Austin Theory never really had
that, Like he won it ina triple threat match match and then yeah,

(50:21):
he had that program with John Cenathat was they had one face to
face and one match that opened WrestleMania. But aside from that, like who
did he really like? Who washis primary foe as the United States Champion?
And I really can't tell you likeit feel like he didn't. It
felt like he didn't defend that UnitedStates Championship for months, And I think
that is kind of where they're goingwith Eos guy. Yes, she has

(50:44):
damage control, but like you said, she's not the focal point. Like
if It's felt like Shotzie and Baileyhas been the focal point in Charlotte and
Eosky has been playing second fiddle tothem, respectively. And I just feel
like when you have a championship victory, you need to have that follow up,
typically with a primary foe. Andlike even the even a Sammy Zane

(51:09):
and Kevin Owens kind of had thatproblem as well, although they really saved
it with the Judgment Day. Theykind of piggybag piggybacked off of the bloodline
facing off against Roman and Solo atwhat was it to Night of Champions and
then they went on and then theyreally salvaged it with the with the Judgment
Day and that was their foe astag team champions, and I think Austin

(51:31):
Theory didn't have that foe. Andlook, we're just a month in,
like you said, still love treadleft on the tire. But that's the
main issue right now is who isthe foe? Is it gonna be Oscar?
Maybe, and maybe this is howthey salvage it. It is a
bit of a mess up until Oscarrose above that. The kind of sea

(51:53):
of women that are mulling around ofthe women's division, even Charlotte, who
is our arguably the biggest star,is still kind of feeling directionless, and
that that could be even a topicat some point too. Is like Charlotte
is just kind of flailing out there. And sure she's you know, she
wins matches, her entrances are stillwhat they are. She still gets a
nice reaction. But Charlotte in andof herself is having a very strange part

(52:16):
of her career where she doesn't geta bunch of mic time. It's just,
yeah, what is she wearing?Like like, I don't like,
like you'm the last person you gotto ask about fashion women specifically, but
it it's bizarre, isn't it.Yeah. I mean I think that's her
way of just trying to differentiate herselffrom the rest of the pack. I

(52:40):
mean that's why Shotzi cut her hairand then did what she did with her
hair. I mean, it's allabout differentiating yourself, making yourself look better
or look different. Maybe that's whatthat is. I don't know. Charlotte
is Charlotte's a weird cat like, and I mean that in a respectful way.
She feels like in j anyone inreal life, she's just kind of

(53:00):
she's she's just her own person,like she's I don't know. She works
out to the point of like obsessionand good for her, I get it,
but yeah, her outfits. I'mwith you. It's it's it's different,
no, no doubt about that. It's like a microcosm of where her

(53:21):
of where her her career is atright now. Yes, just weird,
weird spot. It's in a kindof flux. I don't know what this
is for her. She's just rightnow, Charlotte's going through the motions and
it's it's kind of weird to seethat with her. It's not that I
need to have her be the focalpoint of every week, but I guess

(53:42):
I'm not used to her being justa background player, which is you know
again, I don't know if thisis a complaint or not. It's just
an adjustment, I guess for fansof she doesn't get Mike time consistently,
she doesn't feel like she's on everyshow, and she's not in the main
event chasing the women's champion ship. She's just in random tag matches with random

(54:02):
foes and allies. Suddenly she's alliedherself with Shotzi. Yeah, Charlotte's in
a very strange place right now.I don't know what I don't again,
I don't know if that's a complainor not, just kind of an observation.
Yeah, and Charlotte will always havethat cachet of like when she turns
it up a notch, like, you will be invested, even if you're
not a particularly or Charlotte fan likemyself, Like when she is putting the

(54:24):
main event scene, you are justautomatically invested into her. But I don't
know, it's the women's division isin a weird spot, not even a
bad spot, just a weird spot. Like even like the status of Becky
Lynch right now, Like I believelast week I said like she was more
of the issue with Trish, eventhough many people felt it was the latter
who was the problem. But like, and I think that maybe WWB knows

(54:47):
that as well with her going backto NXD. Yeah, it is strange
with Becky. She's, like yousaid, she's also paralleling a little bit
of Charlotte where she's in this weirdspot. And I mean many people are
upset of her going to NXT.I think it's great. I mean many
guys people have gone back to NXTrevive their careers and come back. I

(55:07):
have no problem at all with Beckygoing there. I don't. I wouldn't
take that as a demotion. Iwould, I would her. And this
isn't being you know, mister positive, but really I would look at this
as an opportunity because she could godown there. It's house money down there.
What happens down there isn't really goingto affect what happens when she comes
back to the main roster. Shegets to go back to where she started,

(55:30):
uh, you know, and andit's kind of a feel good moment.
The NXT doesn't always need to bea feeding ground. You can't have
people come back. So it'll helpwith their ratings and help with the women's
division, help, you know, have her help the current women there.
It's really a win win. Ihave no problem with it. It is
it's just one word. It's justweird, the whole women's division really everywhere

(55:51):
on both rosters, but specifically SmackDown. It's just it's in a it's kind
of in a transition or holding pattern. I don't know what to make of
how I feel about it or directionlists. I don't know what it is.
But the women's division as a whole. That from the tag team championships
which are always a debacle, tothe women's championship with the champion that doesn't

(56:13):
feel like she's really a champion,and it's it's very strange right now.
Yeah, And like I'm trying tolook at some of the other like women's
wrestlers on SmackDown as maybe someone likethere's a tag team that came up,
what was I La down and someoneelse the lawyer ago like, so they've
just been complete non factors like bfab well, I mean she's anything but

(56:38):
fab right now. Like I guessZelina that she's kind of like meandered around
a bit, But I mean itreally has to be within one of those
It really has to be one ofthose four in shots, especially with Bianca
out. It has to be likea shot see or a Bailey or Charlotte

(57:00):
or an Oscar. And to mepersonally, I like, where what two
years, three years removed now fromBailey as the SmackDown Women's Champion when Sasha
finally dethroned or I believe we're threeyears removed from that now. I think
that Bailey, like it's felt longenough now where I think she's the most
interesting of all of them, andto be honest, I would like to

(57:22):
see this version of Bailey as ababy phase. She could easily switch,
and that's what I've said too,is not exactly that point, But she's
been a background player for a longtime now. I know that she re
debuted at last year's Summer Slam afterher injury with her comrades there of Dakota

(57:44):
Kaianio Sky and they confronted Bianca Belaire. I understand that, and we were
like, oh wow, she's finallyleading a faction. And then it literally
since that point just just petered out, and people were ready for that group
to break up before they even gotgoing, and it just didn't out.
But they're still together amazingly because Idon't think they don't want to do with
them right now. But you're right, Bailey right now has been so out

(58:07):
of the main event scene, itfeels like for so long. As far
as the championship scene and getting anactual run with a championship, it feels
like she's due. It feels likeshe's evolved, and I'm ready to see
her as champion again. Cutting goodpromos, I don't even care if it's
baby face or heel. Honestly, baby face would be more interesting. But
right now, I mean, youhave Charlotte as a baby face, which

(58:29):
also doesn't feel right. Charlotte hasa baby face never feels right. I
know that they've tried and this isthe most successful closest they've gotten with Charlotte,
but I feel like she she's justborn to be a heel man.
It just it feels unnatural. Butwith Bailey, man, I'm ready for
her to break out. I wantthat whole group to dissolve. Everyone will
be better for it. And Ithink she could easily have a long run

(58:52):
with the championship, no doubt aboutit. Something yeah any no, yeah.
So my final thoughts would literally justbe like, how have maybe Bailey
get turned on or her turn onEO and have that program, And you
know, I think that's something Iwould be looking forward to. And I
don't want to see shots shots EOas a transitional champion, but I am

(59:16):
that's something that I want to seeis a baby face version of Bailey as
the WWE Women's Champion, but notlike the baby face version of her like
with Bailey Buddies, like this versionof Bailey, but as a baby face,
and she is also someone who's inherentlylikable as well. Yeah, the
adult version, like you know thatthat's the adult version of Bailey. I

(59:37):
like the adult version of Bailey.Just you know, there's not much she
needs to tweak about her character either, you know, and I think that
it's something just get rid of herlaugh, you know, stop at the
cackling. And that's really all youneed to do, because she's got in
ringed down, she's got the namevalue down. Her look has evolved,
you know. Don't Yeah, likeI said, don't resurrect the Bailey buddies
from the grave. I don't needany of that. Uh, you know,

(59:58):
So that's really all they need todo. She's easily transitionable to that.
And I think right now she's notbeing utilized to her full potential.
I really don't believe she is.So all right, Well, that'll conclude
it for this episode of the CurrentState, But you guys, don't forget
this. Coming Friday will be theinaugural episode of after Dark with Anthony DeMarco.

teaser as to that what topic you'llbe talking about on our very adult version
of the After Dark Show. Honestly, I covered the question about if college
is a rip off on the teaserepisode. But I mean, my other
show had a lot of planning gointo it, a lot of time and

(01:00:45):
effort and sifting through clips and kindof piecing together like a storyline in a
lot of ways that I was goingto walk through. This one is going
to really be off the cuffs. So as of right now, I have
no idea where we're gonna go withit, but all I know is that
wherever we do go, it's gonnabe a how have a lot of fun.
I like that, guy, Isee we do know show prep.
