Cheryl has 30-plus years of experience in education and education policy, covering today’s most pressing issues. She spent the first ten years of her career teaching career and technical education and family economics, which made her an unwavering advocate for quality education for all students.
Cheryl worked at the U.S. Department of Education where she evaluated programs seeking to close the achievement gap for at-risk youth. As her children grew, she spent 15 years as an active volunteer in FCPS. A firm believer that FCPS should uphold rigorous academic standards and programs, Cheryl served as Chair for the Government Relations Committee at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJ), where she successfully increased the Commonwealth’s funding for TJ.
Cheryl also spent over 25 years working with nonprofit organizations, where she helped them translate good intentions into measurable outcomes. She believes compassion should be measured by transformed lives, not by the amount of private donor or taxpayer dollars spent. She will bring this results-oriented, fiscally responsible focus to the Fairfax County School Board.
