(00:00):
I got the whiskey. Let me have a drink of your whiskey.

(00:03):
Better get out of here. My name's Ken and I clean Willie Nelson's
underhull. Underhull?
I know you don't agree but I think he's the king of country. Get the fuck out of here.
Get out of my studio.
No, hell no.

(00:25):
From the Ramona radio studios it's the Travis Billy Ross
Outlaw Country Show.
Alright, welcome to the Ramona radio everybody. I'm Travis Billy Ross. This is the Outlaw Country Show.
Gotta make sure I got my whiskey ready to go.
Got my beer.
Beer back. Got my smokes. Perfect. I got sweet curves with me today.

(00:47):
She's kinda my co-host now. I love it.
And I got Cassie and Eric go for it. Again. You keep letting us back in here.
We love you Travis.
Other people are going to start getting jelly here pretty soon.
Let me take a sip of those real quick. By the way, if you ever want to hang out with Travis,
you gotta catch him at one of his shows. Just beg and plead.

(01:11):
And buy him a whiskey.
They don't sell whiskey at Ramona Family Naturals. I'm kinda glad they don't because I was doing a show over at
Josie's Hideout and they do serve whiskey there.
And I made the mistake of saying, yes, we accept tips and we also accept shots.
And people thought it was a joke. It's only a mistake if you do it one time. You do that every time you're at Josie's.

(01:36):
Well, the last time I did it, I ended up having sweet curves drive me home.
I'm pretty sure nobody thinks it's a joke. There was like nine shots of Jack Daniels.
Come on man.
I had like nine shots of Jack Daniels sitting on the stage. I'm like, holy crap, what am I going to do with all these?
Drink them. And I did drink them. It was fun. It was good.

(01:59):
I think at least at the last one, you know, it got spread out a little bit.
Yeah. Heck yeah. Alright, hey, so the show is brought to you by Outlaw BBQ.
Remember, nobody wants to party with salads. They gotta have the meat.
Dang right. He has the best chili Riano bake. I'm telling you. Oh man. Like every time he has that, I'm like, there's no question.

(02:22):
I love it when he has the smoked brisket. Oh the brisket. Yeah, that's Eric's favorite.
That's my favorite. Magic. Yeah.
Last time I had a pulled pork sandwich, it was delicious. I gotta tell you that. Tally Mac too.
Oh yeah, the mac and cheese. And then the cornbread. Jiminy Crikey.
I think the cornbread might be one of my favorites. And I do like the jalapeno poppers. He doesn't always have them, but they're very good.

(02:45):
What is it? He does something weird with that. That bourbon vanilla. Yeah. It's like on that cornbread.
He puts like that honey, like the bourbon spicy honey. Oh yeah. Oh no, it's like a yeah, a hot honey. Oh man.
And then those dessert things that he does. I thought the cornbread was dessert.
It kind of is. He does like lemon bars and stuff. Oh yeah, like lemon bars. Oh yeah.

(03:07):
Gotta love that barbecue. Alright, now I'm getting hungry. I know, I'm kind of getting hungry.
Alright, so what are we going to talk about today, ladies and gentlemen?
You know, last show, we started touching on this old versus new and we're finding artists that are covering songs that have been like from a long time ago.

(03:31):
And even we were all surprised at some of who the original artists were. Yeah, Old Red shocked me. Oh yeah. That one just really shocked me.
Yeah, that was cool. That song was written by George Strait or George Jones. Sorry, not the King of Country.
It was written by George Jones and also Kenny Rogers did it. And then Blake Shelton did it in 2002. Isn't that wild? It's crazy.

(03:56):
Yeah, Old Red is a good song. I think my favorite cover right now is Luke Holmes, Fast Car, Tracy Chapman. Yeah. Oh yeah.
I still like the original. I love the original. The original is my favorite. But I really like it. Yeah. That's one of my favorite songs. Fast Car.
He did a good job with it, but you know, I just. Well, I like how they did it. They did it together at the, was it the Grammys or whatever?

(04:18):
Oh, did they? There was an award, some award show. Yeah, they sang it together recently. I'm going to have to find that on my YouTubes.
Yeah, they did it together. It was pretty cool. On the Tube of You. The Tube of You.
On the YouTubes is. Yeah. Because Tennessee Whiskey is one. Tennessee Whiskey is huge right now. David Allen Cole wrote that one.

(04:39):
I said Tennessee Whiskey is the new free bird for today's musicians. It is. You know, that's like the song that everyone yells out.
Every show we play, somebody's asking, do you know Tennessee Whiskey? I'm like, no. I did, but I forgot. I did, but I don't remember it.
Yeah, but I can't remember the state that it was in. It might have been those whiskey tips you were giving me. Are you sure it wasn't like Carolina Whiskey?

(05:03):
Something like that. No. No, that was White Lightning. Right. Yeah, so that's so. But originally. Yeah, David Allen Cole originally wrote it.
Let's hear it. Let's hear the David Allen. Did we say also Chris Stapleton sampled? Yep. Edit James. I'd rather go blind. Yep. For his version.
He completely kind of rearranged it. Oh, wow. I don't want to say completely, but. Yeah, it's two songs mixed together. Right. Yeah. Yeah.

(05:31):
All right. Let's check out the original, though. This is from David Allen Cole. All right.
I used to spend my nights out in a bar room.

(05:52):
Liquor was the only love I'd known.
But you rescued me from reaching for the bottom.
Brought me back from being too far gone.

(06:18):
You're as smooth as Tennessee whiskey.
You're as sweet as strawberry wine.
You're as warm as a glass of brandy.

(06:45):
And I stay stoned on your love all the time.
I look for love in all the same old places.

(07:13):
Found the bottom of the bottles always dry.
But when you poured out your heart, I didn't waste it.
Cause there's nothing like your love to get me high.

(07:40):
You're as smooth as Tennessee whiskey.
You're as sweet as strawberry wine.
You're as warm as a glass of brandy.

(08:07):
And I stay stoned on your love all the time.
I stay stoned on your love all the time.
Oh man, one of my favorite David Allen Coe songs, honestly.

(08:30):
I do like the way Chris Stapleton does it, but can't beat David Allen Coe.
It's a very popular song with Chris Stapleton.
You know what's interesting? So you guys heard of a guy named Cody Jinx?
Kind of a fairly new musician. He has a really cool style.
He does more of like an outlaw kind of style of music.

(08:51):
He actually did a cover of a song by Pink Floyd.
You know that song? There you go. Wish You Were Here.
Oh, I do love this song. That's a great Pink Floyd song.
But Cody Jinx did a rendition of this song.
That's wild. It would be interesting to hear this country vibe.

(09:13):
Is it country-fied? Yeah, it does kind of country-fy it.
Alright, well let's check it out. Yeah, it's very similar to it.
Yeah, let's do it.

(09:50):
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from hell
Blue skies from pain
Can you tell a green field
From a cold, still rail

(10:14):
A smile from a veil
Do you think you can tell
Did they get you to trail
Your heroes for gold
The hard ashes for trees

(10:36):
The hard air for a cool breeze
The gold cup for change
And in years to change
A walk on part of the world
A league of road and a cave

(11:20):
I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here
We're just two lost souls

(11:43):
Swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year
Running over the same old ground
And we found the same old fear
I wish you were here
I wish you were here

(12:33):
I wish you were here
I wish you were here
I wish you were here
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl

(12:54):
Year after year
Running over the same old ground
And we found the same old fear
I wish you were here
I wish you were here

(13:41):
Ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah

(14:21):
Ah, ah, ah
Man, that pedal steel in that song
It is country-fi
Makes it into a country song
I love that song both ways
I love Pink Floyd
and I love the way he did that
That was freaking awesome
Alright, Sweet Curbs

(14:42):
Yes
Concerts
It's the best concert
you've ever been to
Well, now you're going to
get me in trouble
I'm not as big a fan now
but definitely hands down
Garth Brooks
Garth Brooks
Just as far as
Where did you see him?
Entertainment of value
at the pond in Anaheim
He puts on a show

(15:03):
He does not
I mean, I saw him when I was 10
so this was 30 years ago
So your judgment wasn't really that
I'm just kidding
But, and Andrew, my judgment
wasn't the best
It might have been the same year
because I think I was 20
when I saw him
From start to finish
like he does not stop
You get what you pay for
like he is an entertainer
A lot of energy there
You saw him too, Cassie?
I did
I saw him on the tarmac

(15:24):
at Miramar
It was fantastic
Was it during the air show?
No, it was a show for
Wow
Yeah, for, well at the time
it was the Naval Air Station
Right, right
Wow
But yeah, it was super cool
I had some friends
that were military wives
Oh yeah
Oh my gosh, amazing
Killer
Eric, best concert
Millie Vanillie
I'm going to go to the
wall, wall, wall, wall

(15:47):
I bet they sounded amazing
Okay, so we know that
you're not a big fan of
Garth Brooks
but do we at least win
this concert thing?
I think we do
Yeah, I thought I was
at a concert
Millie Vanillie
It was at the Del Mar Fair
Now, this is actually cool though
because prior to the concert
I didn't know who they
really were
My friends had invited me
to go to the concert
and I was like
I'm going to go to the
concert
and I was like

(16:08):
I'm going to go to the
concert
and I was like
My friends had invited me
Was this, what year was it?
Del Mar Fair
I was probably
Oh, I'm going to say
late 80s maybe
Oh, so it's like in their
heyday before everyone knew
Yeah, right, yeah
Oh yeah
Let me ask you
Did they sound just like
the tape?
He did have the cassette

(16:32):
Oh man
But yeah, I was at the
Del Mar Fair
and I didn't really know
who they were
I don't even think the
people I was with
knew who they were
It was just
you got tickets to the fair
and you went to the show
afterwards
But prior to going to
the concert
they went out into
the fair portion
Oh yeah
Right, the carnival portion
and I got to ride

(16:53):
the Gravitron with
Millie Vanilli
No, get out of here
The little one with
the little creepers
that go up the walls
I do, I don't get motion sickness
Their hair was all
stretched out
along like four creepers
I can do teacups spin
all day long
The gravity rides
make me so sick
Oh really?
Yeah
Not the ones?
Not free fall
The ones where
the G-Forces are so strong
it pins you

(17:14):
Yeah
I can't do that
Have you been to Six Flags?
Lately?
Not lately
The last time was with you
when I went with your sister
when we were in Texas
Oh yeah, that was in Texas
Yeah
Man, I tell you
those things give me
a freaking headache
I don't know if I'm
getting old or what
but the jerking
Yeah, they're not smooth
I love roller coasters
They're not very smooth
Yeah, so anyway
that was my best concert

(17:35):
That was not the
Lemon Ring Pie Fair
It was
No
No, actually it was
a couple of years
Yeah, I have another
funny story about
why I will not
eat lemon ring pie anymore
Were you in a pie eating contest?
Well, sort of
Was it like that movie
Stand By Me
where you're eating the pies?
And like what year
did you stop eating
lemon ring pie?
I was in junior high
and my friend had a little ranch
and they raised pigs

(17:56):
for the livestock show
at Del Mar
Well, he found a little scam
he goes, just make my friend
quote unquote, raise a pig
So I didn't do anything
but I did
I did
I did
I did
I did
I didn't do anything
but I quote unquote
raised a pig
but you go to take your pig
to the Del Mar fair
you're there for an entire week
Yeah
You know, doing the
animal show and then you
auction them off and whatever

(18:17):
Well, my mom gave me
enough money for food
but I blew it all
in the carnival on the first night
So
So I joined the pie eating
contest every morning
That's hysterical
So I ate lemon ring pie
every morning for breakfast
Oh my God
Was there a cash prize
for winning?
No
Oh
No, I think he got
a little ribbon or something
He just had to eat
man, he was hungry
Yeah
I didn't even care about winning

(18:38):
I don't even think he cared
about the contest
That was his food for the day
I'll try to find a segue
that talking about now
the Del Mar fair and pig
So I grew up
in Long Beach
and I moved to San Diego
when I was in sixth grade
and I went to Meadowbrook
and I had this friend
and her sister was in high school
and she said, my sister's
raising a pig
to auction off at Del Mar
Do you want to go to the fair?

(19:00):
Sure
They got free tickets
Let's go
Of course
So we go do the whole fair
and we have a great day
She's like, oh, we got to go
The auction's happening
We got to go watch
my sister's pig
So here we go to the little
arena where they do it
Sister's pig is like
grand champion
like something
Wow
And her sister's sobbing
Yeah
And I'm like, dude
your sister just got
all this money

(19:21):
Why is she so sad?
And she's like, because
they're going to go kill her pig
And I was like, excuse me?
They're going to take her pig
and that's going to be
like someone's bacon
It's going to be breakfast
in the morning
Yeah
Because I grew up in the city
I had no idea
I mean, I know where bacon
comes from
Well, yes
But I had never been to
like an animal auction

(19:42):
I know your friend's pet pig
It's like, why is she crying?
She should be stoked
She's got a ton of money
Was the pig's name
Crispy Bacon?
No
You know what my pig's name was?
My pig had the coolest name
What was it?
Magnum P.I.G.
Magnum P.I.G.
That's funny
That's good
Magnum P.I. was still
pretty cool back then
I don't know what her
pig's name was
but I was like

(20:03):
why did I just participate in?
Oh my gosh
That's funny
The best concert I've ever
been to was a Hank Williams
Jr. concert
He killed it
Not Milly Vanilli for you?
No
I imagine they sound just like the album
I think they kind of have to, right?
Yeah
Yeah

(20:24):
I was a little bummed
I think it was about a year later
Oh yeah
When everything fell apart
Craziness
Alright, so you know
you know Dwight Yolcomb
Oh yeah
Alright so you know Prince
Oh legend
Do you believe that Dwight Yolcomb
did a song or he covered a song
one of Prince's songs
Which song?
That's Risky
Purple Rain in 2016

(20:47):
Oh my God
Talk about a Risky move man
Right
Cover Prince
Here's Prince here
Prince actually wrote so many songs
for other artists
He did
Prince was a fantastic artist
That's Sinead O'Connor's song
The one that made her famous
Oh yeah
Oh wow

(21:08):
Alright so you said Dwight Yolcomb
Dwight Yolcomb
2016
He did Purple Rain
Let's hear it
Alright let's check it out
I never meant to cause you any sorrow

(21:30):
I never meant to cause you any pain
Only wanted one time to see you laughing
I only wanted to see you laughing
In the purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain

(21:55):
Purple rain, purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain
I only wanted to see you bathing in purple rain

(22:17):
I never wanted to be your wicked lover
I only wanted to be some kind of friend
Baby I could never steal you from another
And it's such a shame that our friendship

(22:39):
Never had to end
Purple rain, purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain

(23:03):
I only wanted to see you underneath the purple rain

(23:33):
Honey I know, I know, I know the time to change it
It's time we all reach out for something new
And that means you do
And you say you want a leader but you can't make up your mind

(23:55):
I think you better close it
Let me guide you to the purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain

(24:16):
Purple rain, purple rain
I only wanted to see you laughing in purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain

(24:39):
Purple rain, purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain
I only wanted to see you right there in purple rain

(25:23):
Purple rain, purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain

(25:45):
Purple rain, purple rain
Wow. What did y'all think about that?
That's an original, that's a Prince thing.
I love Dwight Yilkham.
So we were just talking about if you had never heard that song before
and Prince never did it and that was the first time you heard it, what would you think?
Yeah, it's not hitting the charts.
I mean, it's okay.

(26:06):
I mean, he did a good job doing it. I think he probably did it as like a memorial type thing
because Prince died in 2016.
That's the same year.
Yeah, and he did it, he did that in 2006. So maybe that's what he was doing. That's pretty cool.
Yeah. Pretty good.
All right. We were also just talking on break about another unusual cover.
That was like the whole Nine Inch Nails and Johnny Cash thing.

(26:29):
So break that down for me. That's so cool.
Like when they cross, when they cover stuff like that.
So it was a Nine Inch Nails song that Johnny Cash covered.
Because isn't that song I heard myself today?
Yeah, that's a Johnny Cash song.
It's the next one we were talking about Green Day.
Oh, Green Day with Glen Campbell.

(26:50):
That one, Glen Campbell covered Green Day.
But yeah, Nine Inch Nails did cover Johnny Cash.
So Nine Inch Nails covered Johnny Cash. I thought it was the other way.
I thought Johnny Cash covered the Nine Inch Nails.
All right, so this is hurt by Nine Inch Nails.
All right, let's hear it.
Everything.
Hmm.
I'm going to move in.

(27:12):
My empire of darts.
All right.
And then Johnny Cash has a version of hurt.
Yeah.
All right, let's check that out.
Yeah, let's hear that.

(27:37):
I hurt myself today to see if I still feel.
I focus on the pain, the only thing that's real.

(27:58):
The needle tears the hole, the old familiar sting.
Try to kill it all away, but I remember everything.

(28:19):
What have I become, my sweetest friend?
Everyone I know goes away in the end.

(28:40):
And you could have it all, my empire of dirt.
I will let you down, I will make you hurt.

(29:11):
I wear this crown of thorns upon my liar's chair.
Full of broken thoughts I cannot repair.

(29:32):
Beneath the stains of time, the feelings disappear.
You are someone else, I am still right here.

(29:54):
What have I become, my sweetest friend?
Everyone I know goes away in the end.
And you could have it all, my empire of dirt.

(30:25):
I will let you down, I will make you hurt.
If I could start again a million miles away.
I would keep myself, I would find a way.

(31:15):
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.

(31:40):
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.

(32:01):
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.

(32:22):
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.

(32:43):
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.

(33:04):
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.

(33:34):
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.

(34:04):
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.

(34:34):
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.

(35:04):
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.
I would let you down, I would make you hurt.
I hope you had the time of your life.

(35:54):
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.
I hope you had the time of your life.
It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right.

(36:20):
I hope you had the time of your life.
Alright, so what do you think, Sweet Curbs? Who did a better Green Day or Glen Campbell?

(36:42):
Honestly, I liked both of those.
What do you think, Cassie?
I think they both did a good job. I'm kind of still with the original on that.
That's just maybe because Glen Campbell covered Green Day though.
Yeah, that is freaking crazy. What would make him do that?
I'm a rhinestone cowboy.
He's like, I gotta get in with the youth.

(37:04):
I gotta get in with the youth. How do I do that?
Being a rhinestone cowboy sounds like he had the time of his life.
And up next, we've got a Green Day song.
That would have been a concert to be at right there.
I want to hear Glen Campbell say, this is a Green Day song.

(37:25):
His whole audience goes, who? Who? Yeah.
And vice versa.
As they all push away from the slot machines going, I'm off to see Glen Campbell.
Both fanbases are like, who is this other guy?
Much respect though. Much respect for both of them.
It is funny. Two totally different audiences.

(37:47):
What's the next one? What do we got going on here?
We've got a small set coming up of songs everybody knows that probably have no idea that this is actually the original artist that sung these songs.
What's the first one? Old Red.
Old Red. That was originally written by George Jones.

(38:08):
Kenny Rogers did it. He was the first one to cover it?
Yeah. And then Blake Shelton did it in 2002, I believe.
And then so let's listen to the one in the middle. Let's do the Kenny Rogers one.

(38:32):
I caught my wife with another man, cost me 99.
Down in the Georgia prison, close to the Florida line.
I've been here for 12 long years and I finally made the warden my friend.
He sentenced me to a life of ease, taking care of Old Red.

(38:56):
Now Old Red, he's the damnedest dog I have ever seen.
He's got a nose that can smell the two-day trail. He's a four-legged tracking machine.
You consider yourself mighty lucky, get past the gators and the quicksand bids.
Cause all these years that I've been here, nobody got past Red.

(39:19):
Hear the warden say, come on somebody, why don't you run?
Old Red's teaching just to have a little fun.
Get my lantern, get my gun, Red'll have your treat for the morning come.
Paid off a guard and I sent out a letter to my cousin up in Tennessee.

(39:43):
He brought down this blue tick hound, she was pretty as she could be.
So we staked her out in the swamp land, about a mile just south of the gate.
I'd take Old Red for his evening walk and let him go and wait.
Hear the warden say, come on somebody, why don't you run?

(40:04):
Old Red's teaching just to have a little fun.
Get my lantern, get my gun, Red'll have your treat for the morning come.
Now Old Red, he got used to seeing his lady friend, Bill Reddine.
So I kept him away for three or four days and I waited till the time was right.

(40:29):
Then I made my run with the evening sun and I smiled when they let Old Red out.
Cause I was headed north to Tennessee, Old Red he was headed south.
Hear the warden say, come on somebody, why don't you run?
Old Red's teaching just to have a little fun.
Get my lantern, get my gun, Red'll have your treat for the morning come.

(41:03):
Now there's red haired blue ticks all in the south, love got me in here and love got me out.

(41:33):
They got a vintage Victrola 1951, full of my favorite records that I grew up on.
They got old Haken, Lifty and there's B24, set them up Joe and play walking the floor.

(42:02):
I'm gonna spend the night like every night before, play an E.T. and I'll play him some more.
I gotta have a shot of them old truba notes.
Yeah, set them up Joe and play walking the floor, set them up Joe and play walking the floor.

(42:37):
All my neon neighbors they like what I play, cause they've heard it every night since you walked away.
Every day they replay so, B24, cause every night I run a needle through walking the floor.

(43:07):
I'm gonna spend the night like every night before, play an E.T. and I'll play him some more.
I gotta have a shot of them old truba notes.
Set them up Joe and play walking the floor, set them up Joe and play walking the floor.

(43:33):
I said set them up Joe and play walking the floor, set them up Joe and play walking the floor.

(43:54):
He was on his way home from Candletop, been two weeks gone and he thought he'd stop at Webb's and have him a drink
before he went home to her.
Andy Wolos said hello, and he said hi, what's doing, whoa, said sit down I've got some bad news, it's gonna hurt.

(44:17):
Said I'm your best friend and you know that's right, but your young bride ain't home tonight.
Since you've been gone she's been seeing that Amos boy Seth.
He got mad and he saw red, and Andy said boy don't you lose your head cause to tell you the truth I've been with her myself.

(44:39):
That's the night that the lights went out in Georgia, that's the night that they harmed an innocent man.
Don't trust your soul, an old backwoods summer lawyer, cause the judge in the town's got blood stains on his hands.

(45:01):
Andy got scared and left the bar, walking on home cause he didn't live far, see Andy didn't have many friends and he'd just lost him one.
His brother thought his wife must have left town, so he went home and finally found the only thing Papa had left him and that was a gun.

(45:23):
But he went off to Andy's house, a-slipping through the backwoods quiet as a mouse came upon some tracks too small for Andy to make.
He looked through the screen at the back porch door and he saw Andy lying on the floor in a puddle of blood and he started to shake.

(45:45):
Well the Georgia patrol wasn't making their rounds so he fired a shot just to flag him down and a big fella sheriff grabbed his gun and said why'd you do it?
And the judge said guilty in a make-believe trial, slapped the sheriff on the back with a smile said supper's waiting at home and I gotta get to it.

(46:08):
That's the night that the lights went out in Georgia, that's the night that they harmed an innocent man.
Well don't trust a soul in all backwoods of that lawyer, cause the judge in the town's got blood stains on his hands.

(46:29):
Well they hung my brother before I could say the tracks he saw while on his way to Andy's house and back that night were mine.
His cheating wife had never left town and that's one body that'll never be found, see your sister don't miss when she aims her gun.

(46:52):
That's the night that the lights went out in Georgia, that's the night that they harmed an innocent man.
Well don't trust a soul in all backwoods of that lawyer.

(47:32):
I didn't know Vicki Lawrence sang.
Yeah that's wild man.
That's so cool.
So Vicki Lawrence and then who else made it more famous?
Reba.
Reba.
I don't know if we can say more famous cause Cassie just said Vicki Lawrence peaked at number one, Reba's only made it to number 12.
That song in 1973.
Maybe the most well known version is Reba?

(47:53):
Yeah Vicki's album that year in 73 was actually named, same name as the song.
And it went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Very good.
Who knew?
Total mind blowers.
That's why I like your show so much.
I learned so much.
And I will say I'll take it back to the beginning of that little set we just played.
I think Kenny Rogers is my favorite version of Old Red.

(48:16):
That was like a little pep in it.
That was pretty poppy.
That other song in the middle there was Set Him Up Joe so that was written and performed by a guy named Vern Godson.
And then Jamie Johnson redid it but I don't know.
I can't really put my finger on which one I like the best.
They both sound like perfect.
But they called Vern Godson the voice.

(48:39):
He had such a smooth voice.
That was his nickname, The Voice.
I love him.
So how can you battle that?
I don't know.
I want to turn on some Carol Burnett show though.
Carol Burnett.
I'm having flashbacks.
I can see the opening of it in my head.
The little cartoon and she's the maid.
With the little moppy.
I'm totally having visions in my head.

(49:01):
Mickey Lawrence was so funny.
Good stuff.
Alright, well let's get into a different topic here.
Let's get into duets.
I really love it when, you know what I like?
I really like when two different musicians get together and perform and collaborate, do their stuff and make music together in their own different kind of styles.
You know what I mean?

(49:22):
You got like Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.
They both have their own kind of deal, their own style.
They're both famous.
And then they got together and did their thing.
What was that song?
Islands in the Stream.
Islands in the Stream.
Yeah.
Oh yeah.
Yeah.

(49:44):
That is a good song.
It is a good song.
You know who does a really good version of that song?
Ashley Norton and Michael Dean Goodwin.
They do actually.
And actually speaking of to take it back to our last topic, this song was covered by Aaliyah, a pop singer or an R&B singer and it was called Ghetto Superstar.

(50:07):
Oh wow.
Don't you remember that?
Yeah, I remember that.
Was it the music or was it just like the chorus part of it or something?
It was all of it but instead of Islands in the Stream, Ghetto Superstar, that is what you were.
I mean it was the same tune.
Same tune.
They changed the name of it.
I definitely don't want to hear that version.

(50:28):
That version will not be played on the radio.
Not on my show.
We don't do that here.
We got Ashley and Michael doing theirs?
Oh, that's them.
Yeah.
They recently actually just recorded and released this.
Oh yeah, we got it.
We have the EP.
That's it.
Yeah.
Those are two unique voice styles that kind of came together pretty cool.

(50:51):
Speaking of, two voices that are different that come together reminds me of the Taco Tuesdays.
Yeah.
Right?
Oh yeah, Taco Tuesdays over at Smokin' Cannon.
That's what I'm doing, right?
So I'm trying to get two musicians together to collaborate and just play music together for two hours on Tuesdays.

(51:12):
Taco Tuesdays.
T-W-O Tuesdays.
Right?
I did it with, it was me and Chloe one night.
Me and Thea from Thea the band.
Tyler got engaged with Chloe.
Yeah, Catherine Beeks and Mark Torpey.
Catherine Beeks, Mark Torpey, they did a duo.
Who else?
I think that's been it so far.

(51:33):
Well, me and Chloe have done it twice.
You and Thea did it.
Did you say that already?
Yeah, me and Thea did it.
So it's the second and third Tuesday of the month, every month.
So it's from what, six to eight, two hour long.
Yeah, your second one was a special occasion.
Yeah, the second one was a very special occasion.
It was our producer here, Eric Goforth's 50th birthday.

(51:56):
What?
50th birthday.
Shut up, nobody knows that.
50th birthday.
It's history now, so it can be 50th.
39th birthday.
I think Cassie made sure the media was there for that night.
It was his second 49th birthday.
Yes, it was 49 plus one.
Oh look, there's birds flying around.
49 plus one, there's a middle finger right there for it.

(52:17):
Birds again, everywhere.
Birds, there's birds.
That was such a wonderful night.
That was a wonderful night.
That was amazing.
I'll never forget that.
That was cool.
That was awesome.
People.
All right, other cool duets.
Duets, yeah.
All right, good duets.
All right, so let's see.
I like the one with Old Country Boys with George Jones and Randy Travis.
Oh yeah.
That was a good one.
Yeah, let's check that out.

(52:38):
Yeah, let's check it out.
Let's see.
Not too many years ago when dreams weren't coming true
I'd reach for inspiration
Sometimes it would be you

(53:05):
I'd hear you on the radio
I sure didn't like your sound
Say it's good to know there's still a few
Country boys around

(53:29):
From the smoke it's hard to tell
Coming down the line
We heard you were on a fast train
Coming out of Caroline

(53:50):
We wondered what you were hauling
When you rolled into town
It's good to know there's still a few
Old Country boys around

(54:15):
You must have felt that same old feeling
More than once or twice
Guitars pressed against our hearts
You were the neon light
I've got to say that feeling

(54:38):
Is the best that I have found
Lord, it's good to know there's still a few
Country boys around

(55:09):
There's a lot of truth, you know
In our kind of songs
About the life you're living
And how love's done you wrong

(55:31):
As long as there's a jukebox
And a honky tonking pound
It's good to know there's still a few
Old Country boys around

(55:53):
It's good to know there's still a few
Country boys around
Alright, that was a George Jones and Randy Travis song.
How did you like that duo when they mixed together like that?

(56:15):
I liked it.
Especially people with two super distinct voices like George Jones and Randy Travis.
Definitely two distinct voices for sure.
And so often we talk about these duets like male-female, right?
Yeah, yeah.
But that was distinct voices, but two dudes.
It's just like, you know, we'll get into this in a minute.

(56:36):
But let's go back to the olden days, right?
Who was the best duo?
Like there's, you know, June and Johnny.
There's Conway and Loretta.
There's Dolly Parton and Paul Wagner.
Well, Dolly and so many.
I mean, but Dolly and Kenny is like, classic.
Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty, you said.
Yeah.

(56:57):
So Johnny Cash, June Carter, they did a lot of duos.
Mostly, I mean, the most famous one I would imagine would be Jackson, right?
Yeah.
Let's do, let's play.
Long-legged guitar picking man.
Long-legged guitar picking man.
There we go.
That's enough, Folk Harvey.
That's probably my favorite song.
Say that five times.
I know.
Like that's a tongue twister.

(57:18):
Long-legged guitar pick man.
Peter Piper picked a pack.
All right, here it goes.
Well, I'm going to start out walking Just you wait and see
Oh, guitar picker You ain't leaving without me
Oh, you big mouth woman
Long-legged guitar picking man

(57:40):
But we can work this out
Uh-huh, yes ma'am, I think we can
Well, I stole a whole diamond hoping I could shut your mouth
But how am I gonna wear it if I gotta hide it out
Oh, you big mouth woman
Long-legged guitar picking man

(58:06):
But we can work this out
Uh-huh, yes ma'am, I think we can
I'm gonna pick that guitar, man.
Damn background.

(58:39):
Well, I bought you a first-class ticket for a luxury liner cruise
I got out in that ocean, looked around and there was you
Oh, you big mouth woman
Long-legged guitar picking man
But we can work this out
Uh-huh, yes ma'am, I think we can

(59:04):
I bought you a big long limousine
But I don't want no car I gave my loving everything
But you still what you are You're just a big mouth woman
Long-legged guitar picking man
But we can work this out

(59:25):
Uh-huh, yes ma'am, I think we can
Oh, honey, I love that big sweet mouth
You a long-legged guitar picking man
I'm gonna pick it for you now
You a nice guitar picking man
I got turned around in some little town

(59:59):
I'd never been to before
Working my way through
A middle of June midnight thunderstorm
There was something in the headlights
That stopped me on a dime
Well, she was scared to death
So I said climb in and in she climbed

(01:00:23):
Oh, yeah
Well, she was bruised and broke from head to toe
With a tear in her bloodstained shirt
She didn't tell the old truth but she didn't have to
I knew what had happened to her

(01:00:44):
I didn't load her down with questions
That girl had been through enough
I just threw it in drive, looked in those eyes
And asked her where he was
I don't know if he's an angel
Cause angels don't do what he did
He was helping to find the man

(01:01:07):
Behind all the whiskey scars I hit
I never thought my day of justice
Would come from a judge under a seat
But I knew right then I'd never get hit again
When he said to me
Wait in the truck
Just wait in the truck

(01:01:31):
Well, I knocked and knocked and no one came
So I kicked in his double wide door
I let the hammer drop before he got to that 12 he was reaching for
I didn't try to hide my pistol
I didn't even try to run

(01:01:52):
I just sat on the porch smoking one of his cigarettes
And waited for the cops to come
I don't know if he's an angel
Cause angels don't do what he did
He was helping to find the man
Behind all the whiskey scars I hit

(01:02:13):
I never thought my day of justice
Would come from a judge under a seat
But I knew right then I'd never get hit again
When he said to me
Wait in the truck
Just wait in the truck
Lord, have mercy on me

(01:02:39):
Lord, have mercy on me
Have mercy on me, Lord
It's been 60 months
She still comes to see me from time to time
It was worth the price to see a brighter side
Of the girl I picked up that night

(01:03:01):
And I might be here forever
It ain't paradise, that's true
But it's a whole hell of a lot better
Than the place I sent him to
Yeah
Have mercy, have mercy, have mercy

(01:03:22):
Wait in the truck
Just wait in the truck
Have mercy, have mercy, have mercy
Wait in the truck
Just wait in the truck
Have mercy on my own
Have mercy on me
Have mercy on me

(01:03:45):
Have mercy on me
Have mercy on me
Have mercy, have mercy, have mercy
Have mercy, have mercy, have mercy
Have mercy, have mercy
Have mercy, have mercy, have mercy

(01:04:05):
Have mercy, have mercy
Have mercy, have mercy
Have mercy, have mercy
Have mercy, have mercy
Have mercy
I wanna drink that shot of whiskey I wanna smoke that cigarette

(01:04:35):
I wanna smell that sweet addiction on my breath

(01:04:59):
So I need you Like Anita needs a vein

and give to the fall.
Grandpappy told my pappy back in my day's son,
a man had the answer for the wicket that he'd done.

(01:19:19):
Take all the rope in Texas, find a tall old tree,
round up all of them bad boys, hang a high on the street
for all the people to see.
That justice is the one thing you should always find.
You gotta saddle up your boys, you gotta draw a hard line.

(01:19:41):
When the gun smoke settles, we'll sing a victory tune
and we'll all meet back at the local saloon.
We'll raise up our glasses against evil forces singing,
Westgate for my men, bear for my horses.
We got too many gangsters doing dirty deeds,

(01:20:03):
too much corruption and crime in the streets.
Stand the long arm of the law, put a few more in the ground.
Send them all to their maker and he'll settle them down.
You can bet he'll settle them down.
Cost you a thousand dollars, but you can't get away with it.

(01:20:26):
That justice is the one thing you should always find.
You gotta saddle up your boys, you gotta draw a hard line.
When the gun smoke settles, we'll sing a victory tune
and we'll all meet back at the local saloon.
We'll raise up our glasses against evil forces singing,

(01:20:48):
Westgate for my men, bear for my horses.
Westgate for my men, bear for my horses.

(01:21:13):
You know justice is the one thing you should always find.
You gotta saddle up your boys, you gotta draw a hard line.
When the gun smoke settles, we'll sing a victory tune
and we'll all meet back at the local saloon.
We'll raise up our glasses against evil forces singing,

(01:21:34):
Westgate for my men, bear for my horses.
Westgate for my men, bear for my horses.

(01:22:00):
We got married in a fever hotter than a pepper sprout.
We been talking about Jackson ever since the fire went out.
I'm going to Jackson, I'm gonna mess around.
Yeah, I'm going to Jackson, look out Jackson town.

(01:22:27):
Well go on down to Jackson, go ahead and wreck your hell.
Go play your hand you big talker, man make a big fool of yourself.
Yeah, go to Jackson, go comb your hair.

(01:22:48):
I'm never gonna snowball Jackson, see if I care.
When I breeze into that city, people gonna stoop and bow.
All them women gonna make me teach them what they don't know.
How I'm going to Jackson, you turn loose in my coat.

(01:23:15):
Cause I'm going to Jackson.
Goodbye that's all she wrote, but they'll laugh at you in Jackson.
And I'll be dancing on a pony keg.
They'll lead you round town like a scalded hound with your tail up between your legs.

(01:23:37):
Yeah, go to Jackson, you big talking man.
And I'll be waiting in Jackson behind my J-Pan plan.
Well now we got mad in a fever, harder than a pepper sprout.

(01:24:00):
We've been talking about Jackson ever since so far without.
I'm going to Jackson, and that's the fact.
Yeah, we're going to Jackson, ain't never coming back.

(01:24:22):
Well we got mad in a fever, harder than a pepper sprout.
Honey, we've been talking about Jackson.
Johnny and June.
Johnny and June, I think one of my favorites.
What do you think, sweet curbs?
I like Johnny and June.
I like Johnny and June.
That's one of the best duos I think.

(01:24:45):
They did kind of pave the way to you, right?
Who was before them, like as a duo, a girl, guy?
Oh boy.
Did Patsy Cline ever do any songs with any?
I said that was 67, so you've got to go further back than that, yeah.
What about Patsy Cline, did she do any duos?
I mean I'm sure she did, but Johnny and June were like a regular thing.

(01:25:09):
Yeah.
Well yeah, well Patsy Cline did, I fall to pieces, with the Jordanaires.
Featuring the Jordanaires.
Was it just her singing though, or was it somebody else singing?
No, I think it was like, let's see, I don't know.
I don't know, maybe they were like in the background.
I think it was just the band, or the ooh, they're doing the oohs.

(01:25:31):
Oh, is that what they're doing, they're doing the oohs?
There's actually a number of songs that say featuring the Jordanaires.
Maybe that was like her band name.
Man, I love Patsy Cline though.
She's got such the smoothest voice.
She really does.
That's a good song.
Oh, she did that with Jim Reid.
Do you know the song Blue, speaking of songs by Patsy Cline, well not by,

(01:25:53):
the song Blue that Leanne Rimes did was originally written for Patsy Cline and then she died?
I didn't, no.
Is that what that was about? I remember hearing something about that.
I thought it was an original Patsy Cline song that Leanne Rimes redid.
I don't think Patsy Cline ever did it.
Song, yeah, I don't think she ever did it.
Who wrote it? Wow.

(01:26:16):
I'm consulting the Oracle right now.
This one here?
Yeah, this is the Leanne Rimes, right?
She sounds just like Patsy Cline, I remember that.
Oh, that's true. Yeah, when I first heard this song I was like, oh my gosh.
Yeah.
She could totally pass.
You know who else sounds like this? Kimmy Bitters.
She does.
Yes.
She's got this vibe.
She's definitely got that old school country vibe.

(01:26:38):
She won a couple of big awards at the SDMAs.
Yeah.
Yeah, she's making a name for herself for sure.
Yeah, I love her style.
So do I. Well, it's kind of country roots, you know?
Yeah, it's all deep country.
It's not the crossover pop.
Yeah. That's what I dig. I mean, new music is good.
As long as I can get the vibe, you know, like physically old school style.

(01:27:01):
Like Cody Jinx, one of my favorites, Jamie Johnson.
He's got that old school vibe too.
Oh, this is a new one.
Jim Reeves with Patsy Cline.
Oh, they did one.
Yeah.
Is this it?
Oh yeah.
Well, shit, let's play it.
I'm going to go start it over.
Oh, man.

(01:27:24):
I've got your picture that you gave to me
And it's signed with love just like it used to be
The only thing different, the only thing new

(01:27:47):
I've got your picture, she's got you
I've got the records that we used to share
And they still sound the same as when you were here

(01:28:10):
The only thing different, the only thing new
I've got the records, she's got you
I've got your memory, or has it got me?

(01:28:34):
I really don't know, but I know it won't let me be
I've got your class ring that proved you cared
And it still looks the same as when you gave it to me

(01:29:00):
The only thing different, the only thing new
I've got these little things, she's got you
I've got your memory, or has it got me?

(01:29:24):
I really don't know, but I know it won't let me be
I've got your class ring that proved you cared
And it still looks the same as when you gave it to me

(01:29:50):
The only thing different, the only thing new
I've got these little things, she's got you

(01:30:28):
I've got your memory, or has it got me?
I really don't know, but I know it won't let me be
I've got your memory, or has it got me?

(01:30:58):
I really don't know, but I know it won't let me be
I've got your memory, or has it got me?
I really don't know, but I know it won't let me be

(01:31:28):
I've got your memory, or has it got me?

(01:31:58):
I've got your memory, or has it got me?

(01:32:28):
I've got your memory, or has it got me?

(01:32:58):
I've got your memory, or has it got me?

(01:33:28):
I've got your memory, or has it got me?

(01:33:58):
It sits above the manor on a couple rusty nails
It ain't worth a lot of money and it damn sure ain't for sale
The good Lord only knows all the stories it could tell when granddaddy's gone

(01:34:28):
He bought a new out of the Sears and Road Bug catalog
And it shot a manny shells over the back of an old bird dog
It backed the burglar down when grandma took the safety off of granddaddy's gun

(01:34:52):
It's just an old double barrel 12, it starts to crack and it kicks like hell
It wouldn't mean what it means to me to no one
I can still hear his voice when I put it to my shoulder, it goes like a woman's son, it's all how you hold her
Taught me a whole lot more than how to hunt

(01:35:19):
One of these days would pass it on to my grandson, my granddaddy's gun
But he handed it to me on the day I turned 13
With a half shot box of shells and a gift to keep it clean

(01:35:45):
I keep a picture in the case of that sweet old man and me, granddaddy's gun
It's just an old double barrel 12, it starts to crack and it kicks like hell
It wouldn't mean what it means to me to no one

(01:36:08):
I can still hear his voice when I put it to my shoulder, it goes like a woman's son, it's all how you hold her
Taught me a whole lot more than how to hunt
One of these days would pass it on to my grandson, my granddaddy's gun

(01:36:41):
There's a long beard hanging on the living room wall that I got with a box call
And granddaddy's gun
And there's a shine up sign up there on 49
Me and Billy Joe shone up one night with granddaddy's gun

(01:37:07):
And there's a smile on my face that says, I'm gonna be a man
I'm gonna be a man
I'm gonna be a man
I'm gonna be a man
I'm gonna be a man

(01:37:32):
Like I said, I don't know if it was Blake Shelton first or Aaron Lewis first, I have no idea
I think it was Aaron Lewis, I think he wrote it
I would hope so
I like Aaron Lewis, have you ever seen Aaron Lewis freak out on stage?
Have not
Wait, so you say that like it's a recurring thing
No, so he was doing this show one time and the crowd kept talking

(01:37:54):
So he did this one song where he would step away from the microphone and just do it like acoustically
But he said they were trying to sing and then people kept talking and he got so pissed
He's like, okay, I'm doing this song for you guys
Stop talking
For me? For you?
He's like, I don't have to do this, I'm doing it for you guys

(01:38:15):
And then he ends up taking the guitar and taking it off and just throwing it down on the ground
That's gotta be on the Tube of You
I'm gonna have to find it
It's on the Tube of You
The Tube of You
Aaron Lewis melts down
One time Aaron Lewis was performing and some drunk dude got up on the stage
And he went to go give him a hug and Aaron Lewis just fucking clocked him

(01:38:37):
Just cold cocked him
He's like boom
His security was not doing their job that day
He's like get away from me
Yeah, it was crazy, crazy funny
Good stuff
Alright, local people, San Diego County
SoCal, we'll say SoCal
Who's your up and coming country guys?
People's

(01:38:58):
The musicians?
People that I know or people
People personally that I know
Thea, Thea the band
She's got a good voice
She's got a hell of a way of writing songs too
She's so unique
I think she's a phenomenal songwriter
She's got a great way of writing songs

(01:39:20):
Singer wise, Chloe
Have you heard this Thea song?
I love this Thea song
Oh yeah
Two cigarettes
Three cigarettes
The backstory on this is fun

(01:39:44):
Yeah, I like this song
It's a good song, I like this song too
Yeah
Thea's got a unique sound
You got Kimmy Bitter
Kimmy Bitter
Now here's some
You play this
Old school
Right, just kind of that old school
Tentrae sound

(01:40:06):
I was surprised she didn't sing this last night
Yeah, she did sing
She did sing
Cause we watched it at Pamo
But I don't remember what she sang
But it wasn't this
I think it's a new song of the year
I think old school came out after the cutoffs
You were talking to Creed Fisher the other day
Oh yeah, Creed Fisher

(01:40:28):
Oh this guy is really good
We saw him at the main stage
I like Creed Fisher a lot
A few months back
He was really good
Somebody was at main stage the other day
Oh, Farmtruck opened?
No
Well, yes, but that was for somebody else
Oh, you were thinking of somebody else
I thought I was reading your mind

(01:40:50):
What was the name of that band though?
Craig
Craig and Farmtruck
Opened for
I lost my ticket
No, they were really fun, they were out of Arizona
Yeah, cause Heidi knows them
She used to go see them in Mexico
Oh yeah
Cause I've been through hell

(01:41:12):
Creed had a little issue last week
Locked up in jail
Oh, it was Ron DeCloyne and the Peacemakers
Did I tell you about that?
Do you know what happened?
So Creed Fisher
He got really drunk
Really drunk before a show
And it was a sold out show apparently
And he couldn't perform
So he gave

(01:41:34):
All the people that showed up
Like all the merch
Like his shirt
And your next show that you come, it's free
He couldn't perform because he had had a little too much whiskey
Oh my god, yeah
Got himself a little too lubricated
Was that the apology video we saw?
He got a little lubricated
And couldn't perform
Got too shit faced if you will

(01:41:56):
Wow
Poor guy
That's one of those things
I've watched a lot of his videos
I've seen a lot of his videos
And he seems like a genuinely good guy
Creed Fisher
Really genuinely good guy
He seems like a super nice guy
Who made a mistake
But it'll hold him for a while

(01:42:18):
It'll latch onto him for a while
I've gotten close to doing that
But that was because I did a double gig that day
And I was playing at Josie's Hideout
And one of those times
Where I got nine shots of whiskey
And then we were supposed to play later on
That evening at
Par Lounge
And oh, so I get there
And Sweet Curbs is there with me

(01:42:40):
And she's drinking martinis
And I'm like, I want a martini
So I did a dirty beef eater gin martini
Dry up with two olives
Oh good, yeah, that'll
That was the straw
I did the first song and I completely
Bopped the lyrics
He didn't even drink the whole thing, he had two sips of it and he's like, here you go
I'm all sweet, I'm all sweet Curbs
Just fuck the thing away from me

(01:43:02):
And give me just a Coors Light
I need water, I need water right now
Hydrate, hydrate
So then after I
Started drinking the beer, the Coors Light
The water, it was fine
We finished it up, but man I was pretty
Close to
Well you know, putting out the apology, that's a classy move
And I think fans are forgiving
For sure

(01:43:24):
Yeah, for sure, yeah, sometimes you just have to
It is what it is
I understand
I could be in that same spot
A long day
Long day
Tying one off and then performing
We're all people
At the end of it, we're all humans
Yep

(01:43:46):
Astra, you heard Astra's new
Rodeo song
Rodeo Queen
Yeah, that's a good team
That's phenomenal
That one's actually doing really well
She, you know the fiddle player
She used, what's her, Michelle, Melissa
Melissa, Melissa
Yeah, yeah, she came out
From, I don't know where she was living at the time

(01:44:08):
Somewhere
But then her band's really good too
Yeah
Man, turn that shit up
There we go

(01:44:48):
Another time there's room in that one dream
Like a rodeo queen
Proud of my heritage
Carry it on
The western way
Through the generations
Ooh, it's history

(01:45:12):
Smile like heaven
But on your boots
You lie on the prize
It ain't all about the bubble
Ooh, it's a legacy
Saddle up, sisters we trust
Green and glory, diamonds and dust
Flying like the wind

(01:45:34):
Kicking up kindness
Dancing in the dirt
Baby, we're time dance
Group in that one dream
Like a rodeo queen
It's my calling
This is my community
Giving back

(01:45:56):
Is a part of me
Riding like the wind
Kicking up kindness
Dancing in the dirt
Baby, we're time dance
Group in that one dream
Like a rodeo queen
Riding like the wind
Kicking up kindness
Dancing in the dirt

(01:46:18):
Baby, we're time dance
Group in that one dream
Like a rodeo queen
Like a rodeo queen
Like a rodeo queen
Like a rodeo queen
Like a rodeo queen
Like a rodeo queen

(01:46:42):
Yeah, it's pretty good.
It's fun.
It's a fun song.
Sarah Petit had a good night last night.
Oh yeah.
The Empress won, I believe, right?
Her album.
Her best album.
Yeah, this is her bootlegger song.
Pretty cool.
I re-ran moonshine
All the way to the state line
My sister and Jenny and me

(01:47:04):
On Tiger Mountain
Float like a fountain
With a bite that was bitter and sweet
We were like outlaws
Learning from our grandpa
My sister and Jenny and me

(01:47:28):
Take off on horseback
Didn't even need a mount
We've a trail every holler
Every prayer
Yeah, should she be good?
Sarah Petit did a good one.
That's a fun song.
Bootleggers.
I've not heard that one yet.
I like it.
Yeah, it's a really good song.
Sarah Petit did a really good song.
Whiskey and burlap had a good night last night.
Let's see.
Let's just check that.

(01:47:51):
Yeah, all of these locals.
This is all San Diego.
Isn't this cool?
It's wild.
Yeah, San Diego's got some good stuff going on.
Got some huge talent happening.
Yeah, yeah, for sure.
I would say most of the better ones are in Ramona, though.
Yes, that's true.
That's true.
I don't want to be biased or not, but I'm biased.
Not to be biased.
Not biased.
I'm biased.
Ramona's the best.
Not biased, but factually correct.
No, I'm just kidding.

(01:48:12):
No, we love everybody.
We're lovers, not haters.
Oh, man.
All right.
Let's do a good duet song real quick before we get to the next...
Before we get to name that tune.
...name that tune thing.
Because Sweet Curbs has beat me twice.
This is bullshit.
But we're going to go ahead and do it again.
But we're going to do another one.
It's from a movie called Walk Hard.

(01:48:35):
And the name of the song is called Let's Duet.
And I've done this song.
You almost have to do it.
I know.
How did this not even come up earlier?
If you haven't seen this movie, it's freaking hilarious with John C. Reilly.
The Dewey Cox...
It's about Dewey Cox.
But it's not...
Dewey Cox is a fictional character, but it's a typical parody of Johnny Cash.

(01:48:58):
All the musicians, and it's clumped into one of like 17 or something musicians that the stories all kind of mix together.
It's hilarious.
It's a hilarious...
But I've done this with Chloe Lu.
I've done this with Thea.
Yeah.
Dirty Confetti.
Dirty Confetti.
And Wendy.
Well, a guy came up to Wendy one time at Ramona Family Naturals and was like, that song's offensive.

(01:49:19):
And Wendy thought he was joking and was like, ha ha ha.
And he was like, no.
And he was serious.
He's like, no, I'm serious.
That song offends me.
I'm going to stop singing anymore.
And she's like, oh, okay.
The word is duet.
Yeah.
Duet, right.
All right.
But let's play it.
Let's play it.
Let's do it.
Hello, darling.

(01:49:43):
Hello, Mr. Cox.
You ready to sing one?
I'm always ready.
Sometimes you're blowing me some kisses
That's one of my favorite things to do

(01:50:07):
You and I could go down in history
That's what I'm praying to do with you
Let's do it in ways that make us feel good
Let's do it and make that sacred sound

(01:50:33):
Put two and two together, perfect harmony we found
We know it's only natural, let's do it
I'm gonna beat off all my demons
That's what loving Jesus all about

(01:51:00):
Looking in your eyes I start believing
Let's bring this whisper to a shout
Let's do it in ways that make us feel good
Let's do it and make that sacred sound

(01:51:26):
Put two and two together, perfect harmony we found
We know it's only natural, let's do it
Did I hear you sighing? What are you implying?
You look a little tired Music got me wired
You're pretty good looking Boy, we're really cooking now

(01:51:56):
I just want to make out what you're saying
Read my lips, it's what you're looking for
Here I am, sneaking up behind you

(01:52:21):
You can always come in my back door
Let's do it in ways that make us feel good
Let's do it and make that sacred sound

(01:52:42):
Put two and two together, perfect harmony we found
We know it's only natural, of course it's only natural
God knows it's only natural, let's do it

(01:53:25):
I'm just like, what am I watching now?
This is hilarious, so much fun
Alright, is it time? So, undefeated champion over here
If you're keeping track at home, I beat Travis twice, soon to be three times
Scorekeeper getting prepped
Undefeated champion here, alright
So yeah, let's lay down the rules again

(01:53:46):
Alright, the rules, so we're gonna get started in a minute
Eric is gonna play a song
Travis and I do not have our phones
Whoever guesses the song first, and then you have the opportunity
You can either say artist or song, and then you have the opportunity to
Get the other part
Within how many seconds? Because we had a little debate last week

(01:54:07):
Five seconds, yeah we're doing five seconds
If you don't guess the second part within five seconds, it goes to your opponent and he can get a point
Right, so you gotta name the song and then the artist, right?
Either or, I love this, then he can get a point
You got a point, you then have five seconds to come up with the other part
So whether you came up with the song, you got five seconds to get the artist

(01:54:29):
If you don't, then the other person has a chance to steal that one point
I love how she said, then he can get a point
And then he can get a point
So each song is worth two points, artist and name of the song
Can be worth two points, yeah that's true
Alright, are you ready sweet curbs, fire up that smoke
Here we go
Wait, let me take a sip of whiskey

(01:54:51):
Here we go, song number one
Love the Rainy Nights, Eddie Rabbit
God dang it, bullshit
I'm going Kirby two times
Alright, here we go

(01:55:12):
Do you know Cassie?
Get in there, because I don't know
No, this is now, can Travis beat Kirby?
No, I'm not getting it
Chains, shackles and chains
She called it chains
I'm terrible with the female arts

(01:55:33):
Alright, I'm just going to throw a name out, Alice in her House
No, Patti Loveless
Patti Loveless, son of a bitch
Hey Kirby's at three nothing here
I don't know why
What's that mean?
I don't know, I don't know why
Maybe you should listen to some more musical women
We got a lot of them in this town

(01:55:55):
Alright, here comes our next one, ready?
Alabama

Hmm
Is it George Strait?
No
Is this an old song?
Yes
It's from the 80s, not that far

(01:58:09):
Is it? I thought it was way before that
Because my parents, yeah
It's not Bernd Gottson
Conway Twitty
There you go
And the name? I don't know
Some say love, my friend
No, it's Rose
Oh, the fact that they're both on
I can tell it's Conway Twitty's voice
Yep, definitely Conway Twitty

(01:58:31):
Six to five, come on
Alright, here we go, you ready for the next one?
Okay
Randy Travis
First thing that I thought of
When I thought I'd drink you off my mind
Who the fuck is this?

(01:58:53):
This is the whiskey isn't working
No
You're gonna kick yourself?
It's not George Strait
No
It's fucking
It is not the king
It is not not the king
I forgot the double negative
It's not Duffy

(02:01:11):
Alright
That's a good song
Alright, we're going to move into the 70s here a little bit
70s are kind of hit and miss
Yeah
It's where it gets a little sketchy here
I'm going to go with the 70s
I'm going to go with the 70s
Country Road, John Denver
Dang, good job
And we have a tie, ladies and gentlemen

(02:01:33):
How about this?

Who sings it?
I have no idea
Is it Murray?
No, it's not Anne Murray
Cash?
No
I'm going to go with the 70s

(02:01:55):
Cash?
No
I don't know how old it is
I think we're in the 70s
It's definitely got that 70s vibe
Lynn Anderson
I'd never would have guessed that
I know her name though
Let's go with
this one
David Allen Coe

(02:02:17):
Never Call Me By My Name
Ha ha
And he's pulled ahead
12 to 13
Travis
How about this one?
This was a great movie too

(02:02:41):
It's one of those
movies from the 70s you had to have seen
Seen
It's not Ronnie Milsap, is it?
No
Oh God
Definitely feels like 70s
No idea

(02:03:03):
I have no idea
Once I move in, you're both going to kick yourself
You ready?
Here we go
Every Which Way But Lose
That's the name of the song
We don't get a point for that
Who sings it?
I have no idea

(02:03:25):
Eddie Rabbit
Did you ever see that movie?
It's a great movie
Called Every Which Way But Lose
Yeah, it's very fun
70s get a little tricky
Yeah

(02:03:51):
You guys don't know the song either?
This is a good one
No Joy, huh?
Southern Nights by Glen Campbell
I was like Southern Nights has been
a great movie
I'm like, come on, at least grab that one

(02:04:13):
Eric's got his pointer finger like he's John Travolta
Right here comes the next one
