(00:09):
It's been said that the greatestchallenge of our time is
discerning fact from fiction, reality from fantasy, truth from
illusion.
I couldn't agree more.
Times are changing, the world ischanging, and I know that you
have felt it too.
Now more than ever, we need anew way of seeing ourselves and
(00:34):
each other.
This can absolutely happen whenwe understand the truth of who
we are.
When truth is recognized, questions get answered,
direction gets clarified, andall of that negative emotion
evaporates into peace.
Welcome to Truth and Beauty.
(00:55):
Because where truth isunderstood, beauty is revealed.
Hello, and welcome to Truth inBeauty.
"We are one." That was writtenon a Spiritual Gangster
sweatshirt that I wanted about adecade ago, which I still kind
(01:17):
of regret not getting, by theway.
The thing about that phrase,"weare one," is that most of us
rarely go beyond the niceness ofthe idea.
It's a really great idea.
We are joined.
We are a community.
We are in this together.
Repeating it feels good,supportive, spiritual.
(01:39):
But the reality is it's an ideathat we like more in theory than
in practice.
It's sort of the spiritualequivalent to asking,"How are
you?" to someone you don't knowthat well.
It's nice, it's friendly, butyou really don't wanna put too
much time or energy into it Thething is, though, it's true.
(02:00):
I mean, it is the foundationaltruth of who we are at our most
stripped-down, raw state, ouressence.
There is a part of our brainthat's like,"Ah, yes, we are all
part of each other.
So great." And then we startgoing about our day, and the
jerk who stole our parkingspace, or the woman at the gym
(02:21):
who is trying to use threemachines at once, or the deluded
political extremist you see onTikTok or Facebook, and you're
like,"Hmm, I think I'll juststick with myself over here.
Thanks anyway." In order toreally live by this truth, we
first have to understand what iteven means, what it really means
(02:42):
beyond the sweet kumbaya momentat first glance.
And once we can start toappreciate what the words are
really saying, then we need tocommit to doing something about
it because, really, we don'thave to.
I mean, let's be honest, most ofus don't, at least not all the
time.
Living this truth is a majorpivot.
(03:04):
It changes everything about yourlife: how you see others, how
you see yourself, how youapproach your day, how you react
to what happens, especially theirritations, the problems, and
everything that seems to beunfair.
So what does it mean to be one?
(03:25):
In order to make sense of it, wehave to choose to set aside what
seems to be real.
If you happen to live in or evenhave ever visited a major city,
taking a five-minute walk downthe street, it is possible to
see hundreds, maybe eventhousands of people headed in
various directions, all withtheir own unique destination,
(03:48):
their own private thoughts, their own personal agenda.
From this standpoint, allevidence points to separateness.
And from an earthly perspective, there absolutely is an aspect of
individuality of being on ourown unique path, separate and
distinct from everyone else.
But that is only one angle ofthe larger view.
(04:12):
Beyond our bodies is anotherpart of us, a part that is the
most real, the most true, thepart that doesn't change, get
old, or die, the part that iseternal.
That part is consciousness.
What is consciousness?
Consciousness is awareness, whatI term primary awareness.
(04:35):
It is an observational state ofcontinuous knowingness merged
with life force, energy,presence.
Consciousness is the eternalpart of us that exists beyond
all else.
Consciousness is not out theresomewhere.
It is within.
(04:55):
What is out there somewhere isthe body and what we think of as
our mind, our brain-producedthoughts, feelings, and
decisions.
It is very natural to think ofwhat is greater than ourselves
as outside of us, somewhere inthe universe.
We are used to looking for Godin the sky.
But the reality is thateverything that is real exists
(05:16):
inside of us, and what we areexperiencing as the world,
Earth, the people and animals, vegetation, countryside, or
cityscape that surrounds us,that is what is on the outside.
In other words, as real as thebody seems to be, and as much as
we are invested in our ownunique selves, our personality,
(05:40):
our body isn't all of who weare.
In fact, it is only a temporaryincarnation created for a
temporary purpose.
The experience of separatenesscomes from this fleeting
illusion.
The reality instead is that weare all part of consciousness,
the consciousness that createdthe illusion in the first place.
(06:05):
A wonderful illustration of thistruth, and maybe you've heard
this before, is to think of theocean.
Consciousness is the ocean.
We are the ocean.
When we are born into a humanbody, just as a child playing on
the beach draws from the waterthat edges the sand, our soul
becomes separated,theoretically, temporarily.
(06:29):
But the reality is our soulnever left its source, and when
the time comes to release thatcup of water back from where it
came, it simultaneously becomesone with the ocean.
Instantly, it is no longerpossible to discern that soul,
that cup of water, from thegreater consciousness, from the
greater reality of the seaBodies allow us to have a
(06:54):
specific kind of experience, onethat is immaterial to
consciousness other than anopportunity to expand.
Experience offers expansion, andfrom what I understand, at this
point at least, expansion is ourprimary motivation for choosing
to have a human life, to broadenunderstanding through challenge
(07:16):
with unique experience.
Living in a human body for ourconsciousness is like taking a
trip to a foreign country, traveling to a new part of the
world to see and experience anew culture, new foods, new
landscapes, new customs, adifferent way of life.
Travel expands our understandingof the world, and in the
(07:38):
best-case scenario, also expandsour understanding of ourselves.
Yet for all it offers, it is notessential.
While it heightens our awarenessand appreciation of unfamiliar
aspects of planet Earth and thepeople who inhabit it, travel
doesn't change the essence ofwho we are.
Our personality and our physicalbody remain the same.
(08:01):
We are foundationally the sameperson on the flight home as who
we were when we left.
Although hopefully ourperspective has shifted,
increased, amplified.
When we travel back from ourhuman experience, leaving our
body and identity behind, ourconsciousness remains as whole
(08:21):
as before we were born.
But it is added another view, another facet of comprehension
under its belt.
When we approach life from theperspective of bodies, we see
and experience separation.
As a result, we naturally judgeand divide each other into
categories.
Right, wrong, good, bad.
(08:45):
Bodies allow us to default toseparation and then dramatically
react to all the negative thingsthat seem to surround us.
Learning to live the truth ofoneness requires us to start
doing it differently Here isperhaps the most important part
of this truth.
Everything we experience is partof us.
(09:07):
Consciousness creates.
We create.
Our world is created by us asmuch as it is created for us.
And everyone and everything weexperience has a role.
From people to animals, trees, flowers, grass, to rodents and
insects, we are all playing ourrole, and we agreed to this
(09:31):
role, by the way.
However, the crazy part of beinghuman is also agreeing to
forget.
Before our birth, we made thedecision to become completely
immersed in the humanexperience.
In order to do this fully, wesign a contract of amnesia.
We agree to forget who we areand from where we came.
(09:54):
We forget that we are one, andthere is nothing to fight for.
There is nothing to need.
There is nothing to fear.
And as a result, we start to doall of those things.
Why the forgetting then?
Because the amnesia isnecessary.
The truth, the remembering, isso incredibly powerful.
(10:18):
Our earthly existence loses itspunch when we are able to see it
for what it is.
The goal, the whole point of theexperience, is to find our way
out from the inside.
Remembering is the goal.
It is the key we are searchingfor to escape the escape room We
(10:40):
have been conditioned to seeourselves as defenseless before
a crazy and cruel world.
The cruelty of the world issymbolized by the people we
perceive outside of us who aredoing all of the bad things.
But all bad behavior comes fromfear, fear that exists because
we have forgotten the truth ofwho we are.
(11:04):
The antidote to fear is love.
The relationship betweenremembering and love is
reciprocal.
The more we remember, the morewe access love.
The more we choose to seethrough the badness with love
and forgiveness, the more weremember.
I will never mislead you tothink that this is easy.
(11:27):
In fact, it is definitely noteasy.
It requires us to do a personaloverhaul, to completely
reevaluate our perspective andthe way we have seen ourselves
and other people for theentirety of our lives, or at
least for as long as we canremember.
But I promise you that if youreally want it, it is in your
(11:50):
power to rewrite that oldnarrative and shift your
perception towards a bright andpowerful light.
So even though these ideas mayfeel overwhelming, know that it
is a step-by-step process, andby far what is most important is
(12:10):
only the willingness to try.
Let's move on to something moreconcrete.
In the timeless lyrics of 38Special,"Hold on loosely." In
other words, don't attachyourself to what you seem to be
experiencing.
Instead, step back, loosen yourgrip, observe, but don't merge.
(12:34):
Remind yourself that the worldis not all of what it seems.
This doesn't mean that youshould stop trying to live
within it.
By all means, live fully, butwith awareness.
Be mindful that none of this isas real, as defining, or as
final as you once thought.
(12:54):
Try seeing what is happening inyour life as a movie and
yourself as the screen on whichit is playing.
There is a reason why you arehere.
There is a reason why you areparticipating in the Earth
school in the human form.
It is not an accident, and it isdefinitely not for nothing.
(13:14):
And let me tell you, when thingsget tedious or frustrating or
especially dramatic and crazy,it really helps to remember
that.
When you bring awareness andtruth and purpose to your
everyday life, then everythingyou experience and everything
you do feels different.
(13:34):
You begin to hold two things inthe same moment, the form of
what you experience in one handand its translucency in the
other.
And then forgive, forgive,forgive.
There doesn't exist a morepowerful way to respond to your
(13:56):
environment than withforgiveness.
Why should we forgive?
Because we are more than what weappear to be, and everyone
around us is more than what theyappear to be.
Sin is only error, misguidedbehavior, mistakes.
Up in it.
(14:17):
How we respond to the world infront of us is everything.
Spread light where there isdarkness, and crazily enough,
what you will begin toexperience is more light.
The goal is to raise yourvibration.
The principle or truth behindthis goal is that love is.
(14:39):
When we move through the worldwith love for others, for
ourselves, our vibration, ourenergy, our consciousness
becomes more aligned with truth.
The more aligned we become withtruth, the more our experience
changes in beautiful andprofound ways.
(14:59):
I will leave you with this finalthought, and I mean this
sincerely in the most loving waypossible.
Stop taking everything soseriously.
I know that you do.
I do it too.
This might feel like a cop-outor perhaps instruction to become
a bad citizen or have a lack ofintegrity, but really it is the
(15:22):
opposite.
Letting go of the drama frees uproom to see what actually
matters.
There is no doubt that the humanexistence is a combat zone of
many iterations, but trywatching the battlefield from
above.
See it there first.
Observe.
Don't merge.
(15:44):
Then move forward with awarenessand intention.
This creates the opportunity tostay in alignment with who you
really are at your core once allof the reactionary feelings and
impulsive thoughts begin to fadeaway.
When we can remember who weactually are and not be thrown
(16:06):
off by what appears to be, andthen use that knowledge to act
in a way that is authentic andaligned to who we are, then we
have gotten somewhere, fulfilledour purpose, won the game, or at
least the round Thank you somuch for listening today.
(16:29):
I sincerely appreciate yourpresence here.
You are light, you are love, youare holy.
And us?
We are one
