This is it. The last time we're talking about Chris Chan. Ever.

After 18 years of internet infamy, we're closing the book on one of the most documented...and most disturbing...stories online. This final episode covers 2021-2025: the incest arrest that broke the internet, the charges that mysteriously vanished, and Chris's bizarre new life involving international travel, a mysterious girlfriend named Flutter, and somehow... stability?

From getting kicked out of conventions to holding hands at Finnish amusement parks, from selling painted rocks on Etsy to hitting 100K YouTube subscribers, Chris's post-jail life is nothing anyone predicted. But the real questions cut deeper: Who's actually profiting from this mess? Where's the line between documentation and exploitation? And what happens to someone when thousands of people have spent nearly two decades watching their every move?

We're done. Moving on.

This chapter is closed.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Hello everyone, you are listening to We Saw the Double
This is Robin. Welcome back or welcome if you're new
here before we dive into it today, y'all, I have
something very important to say. This is the last Chris
chan episode. I want to cry because I know a

(01:19):
handful of you are tired of this. This is the
twenty third episode of the Chris Chan saga and the
final one. And after covering all of this, the bizarre,
the troubling, we are closing the book. The whole journey
is now complete, and honestly, it's been simultaneously exhausting, disturbing

(01:40):
and deeply gross. But after today, I promise to each
and every one of you, I will not be mentioning
Chris Chan ever again. For my own sanity and for yours,
We're done. And with a self promoting side note, after
covering the Chris Chan stuff, if you're looking for something
completely different than true crime, don't forget to check out
episode two of my new political series. It's called Red, White,

(02:02):
and Bruised, and it's for anyone, and I mean anyone,
regardless of party affiliation. Anyone who's just angry and disgusted
with what's going on in the country right now. If
you're fed up, you're not alone. I was beyond terrified
to do this. I thought, Okay, Robin, you haven't even
put out true crime episodes in forever, and suddenly you're

(02:23):
coming back with that and starting a podcast that potentially
may alienate the listener base even further. And my convictions
are so strong in this I have to. We're only
two episodes in and the third one is going to
drop this Sunday. Okay, so quick entertainment pivot. I have
breaking news here as well, Guys. I mentioned it in

(02:43):
the previous episode that I was going to ask Iris
if she would come back on to talk movies and
she is. So this Sunday, I'm going to be recording
with Iris. And the way that it's working is I
picked the scariest movie that I know of, and Iris
picked a new one that she hasn't seen yet. So
we are basically going to watch and review and talk

(03:05):
about it. And this is a high stakes on y'all
because this is quite possibly my favorite horror movie post Martyrs,
which was two thousand and eight, and I am really
excited to watch her choice as well. Recording on Sunday,
and then this is actually going to be a bonus
episode next week and I'm going to drop it on Tuesday.
So next week's calendar Tuesday horror movie episode with Iris. Friday,

(03:30):
we are heading back to true crime Territory, and then Sunday,
Red White and Bruce, you get a three for next week,
and again, this is my favorite time of year. You guys,
And speaking of horror media, I guess have any of
you guys watched Ryan Murphy's show Monster the Ed Gaen Story, Okay,
because look, I figured this might be relevant in the

(03:50):
world of true crime, right. I typically love the aesthetic
and styling of Ryan murphy shows. I really do. They're
very specif you know that it's going to be beautiful
or it's going to be just gritty, grungy and gory.
You know what I mean, and you know what to
expect with him. I loved the story. I loved what

(04:13):
he did with oj Simpson. I loved a couple seasons
of American Horror Story shout out Covin and shout out Asylum.
I thought what he did, I thought what he did
with Jeffrey Dahmer was Evan Peter's best work. That was
absolutely incredible. But I can absolutely understand that it could
be EXPLOITEDI of of the living families of the victims,

(04:36):
as this was not so far away. But the Edgine
story happened a long time ago, and I don't know,
it looks really good. And I have to say, though,
Charlie Hunham's voice in this is distracting and horrible. It's grating.
I can't with it. And add on to that that

(04:57):
the show is not necessarily the most shtorically accurate, which
his voice is also not accurate. But that's Ryan Murphy's
whole thing. He goes big, he goes graphic, he makes
it grandiose. It's his signature style. Laurie Metcalf, you may
remember her from her time on Roseanne or The Connors.
You know Jackie Harris, the cop on Roseanne. That's when

(05:20):
That's where I think most of us first saw her.
She blows this away. If this woman does not win
an award for playing ed Gean's mother, I've just I've
lost all faith in humanity. The performance she puts on
is just chef's fucking kiss. And I can't believe she's seventy,
Not that that's old or anything, but you know, growing

(05:40):
up with her on my TV screen, Roseanne, Ladybird, ed Gean, God,
she's been in Scream. But yeah, I don't know. Have
any of you guys watched it? And what do you think?
And most importantly from this nine minute or so intro,
I have no idea random pull for you. My wife
eats frozen uncrustables like straight out of the freezer, frozen solid.

(06:08):
Does anyone else do this? Because I was absolutely disgusted, shocked, appalled,
waterline wanted to call an exorcist. But then I looked
it up on Reddit and apparently it's common and people
are swearing that it is primo, that it is the
only way to eat uncrustables. Do you guys actually do this?

(06:31):
Are you okay? Are you okay? Do I need to
call for help? Do I need to call for an
adult like? I don't know, but I need answers please?
And finally, the last of the housekeeping. Don't forget to
check out the website. There is not much on it.
I just put up a new website there. It's bare bones.

(06:55):
Beyond that, you can follow the show on Facebook. We
saw the Devil, Instagram that we saw the Devil podcast,
and Twitter as we saw the double And as always,
if you are interested in me, the animals, I have,
the food, I eat, the people I know, you can
follow me at Robin Underscore WSTV. Hi, let's do this
one last time? Am I drinking a shipyard pumpkinhead to

(07:17):
celebrate this occasion? Also? Yes? All right? So in the
previous episode we left off in twenty twenty four. So
in early January of twenty twenty four, Chris and his
what everyone assumed was his girlfriend, Fluttered, a think small
blonde girl with poofy bangs and kind of curly hair.

(07:38):
So they were planning to attend Animate Raleigh and That's
a comic and cartoon convention in North Carolina, about one
hundred and seventy miles from Big Island. On January fourth,
they were photographed at Ultimate Comics and Carrying North Carolina
picking up tickets that they'd purchase in advance. The next day,
January fifth, they attended day one of the convey Flutter

(08:01):
wore a face mask, possibly to avoid identification, and Chris
was typical Chris. He wore a pretty out there, distinctive
outfit that more or less just made him an easy
mark and easily recognizable. The weird thing about it, though,
is that he didn't announce his attendance on social media.
I don't know how many of you I'm friends with

(08:21):
on Facebook or Instagram, but if you know me, if
I go to a concert of a band that I
really like, anytime I see Anthony green Back a circa
a sound of animals fighting, solo stuff or Chelsea Wolf
or a Law of Dispute or any of those bands.
Hail this s you know that I literally freak out
on social media. I post probably every day about it.

(08:45):
The last couple of days before the show. Well, Chris
was the same way. Wow did I I need to
rethink my life choices? But Chris did the same thing.
He would post incessantly, And this marks the first time
that he actually went to a convention without announcing it
and obsessing over it before it happened, So no one
knew that he was going to be there, and I'm

(09:06):
kind of assuming that means that he learned from his
past convention bands, because if you recall, he had been
either had very very poor convention experiences, how he had
to get a therapist to come in and people beg
him to get out, walked out from by security. He
did not have a good track record with anime, My
Little Pony or comic conventions. By not announcing it on

(09:28):
social media, that means that the people who follow Chris
wouldn't preemptively call the convention organizers and have him banned,
because no one wants Christian there, so Chris just simply
decided to buy tickets and show up. On day one,
that strategy worked. Chris and Flutter walked to the convention floor.
They browsed vendor tables and apparently had no significant incidents.

(09:52):
But on day two. But on day two, January sixth,
everything fell apart. According because day one, people saw Chris Chan,
and you bet, Reddit blew up. I was there for it. Yes,
that was an admission that I am in the Chris
Chan subreddit. People saw Chris and it circulated immediately within minutes,

(10:13):
and by the beginning of day two, the convention organizers
had made a decision and they were denied entry to
the convention center. When they returned the morning of day two,
photos show Chris and Flutter standing outside the building with
security guards. They appeared to be explaining why they could
not enter, and a friend of a redditor you know,

(10:34):
cousin of my cousin's dog, of his babysitter's first cousin
Reddit user claimed to have witnessed the full sequence of events.
They claimed that Chris and Flutter had been escorted out
by staff after fellow attendees weens who recognized Chris reported
his presence to the organizers. That decision was swift animate.

(10:54):
Raleigh's organizers clearly did not want the liability, controversy or
disruption that came with Chris Chan's presence. Chris was reportedly upset,
but it did not cause a scene, which would be
the first in his life, and strangely enough, Flutter stayed
by his side throughout the entire interaction. Later in a
live stream, Chris would mention that he and Flutter had

(11:15):
been quote ratted out by the staff and that the
convention quote took the snitch's word over his, and this
would be Chris's last attempt to attend a convention in person.
Future convention organizers would add Chris to preemptive band lists,
ensuring the scenario would not repeat. But then we're going international.

(11:37):
In April of twenty twenty four, something extraordinary happened, although
it wouldn't be revealed until months later. Chris and Flutter
traveled to Finland, Yes, Finland, Of all countries, they went
to Finland, and this was Chris's first time ever leaving
the United States. After forty two years of living exclusively

(11:58):
in Virginia, with only a hasional trips out of the state,
Chris had finally crossed international borders. The trip remained secret
for months, but in June of twenty twenty five, Chris
accidentally posted a photo of himself at an amusement park
in Helsinki, and those darn eagle eyed redditors recognized the

(12:18):
location and began searching for evidence. I mean, Christorian's gunna Christorian,
you know, And it didn't take them long to find it.
A random YouTuber had filmed a vlog at that park
on April thirtieth, twenty twenty four, and in the background
of a brief clip, Chris and Flutter could be seen
walking hand in hand through the park. The video had

(12:41):
been public for over a year, but nobody had noticed
until Chris inadvertently revealed his own location. Additional investigation revealed
that Chris had also been spotted at a shopping center
in Helsinki, at a store called Normal in the mall
of Tripla, and at various other Helsinki locations. On May
twenty fourth, to twenty twenty four, Chris was photographed at

(13:03):
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in Texas. The person reported
Chris's flight had been canceled and that Chris appeared tired
and irritable making phone calls and texting, and Dallas fort
Worth offers direct flights to Helsinki. This confirmed Chris had
indeed been in Finland and was returning to the United States.

(13:24):
Throughout twenty twenty four, Chris's online presence showed clear signs
of Prater's continued involvement. Videos uploaded to Chris's YouTube channel
featured professional editing with green screen effects, high quality graphics
and transitions, promotional content for the official quick mark, and
consistent branding for the first time literally ever. In his

(13:44):
video descriptions, Chris regularly promoted the Etsy store, where pray
Or produced and Chris made items were sold, and they
sold you guys. I mean, if you think what's happening
in the world right now is bad, y'all, it's already happened,
like Chris Chan has an official Etsy store, and people
buy the shit. By twenty twenty four, official quick Mart

(14:05):
had generated over four thousand, two hundred sales, with items
ranging from fifteen dollars to several hundred dollars. Conservative estimates
put total revenue between fifty and one hundred and sixteen
thousand dollars, though actual figures were likely hire given some
of the custom items sold for premium prices. Now, Chris's

(14:28):
cut of these sales remained unknown, but the arrangement continued.
New products were regularly added, like custom medallions, jail art
from the time that Chris was incarcerated, art commissions for
two hundred and twenty five to three hundred dollars, various
signed merchandise, and my absolute favorite thing I've ever seen

(14:50):
when I saw this came out because again subreddit. Someone
posted it on the subreddit and it took me out.
Chris was gathering rocks from his driveway like literal driveway gravel,
and painting them to look like quote unquote geodes. Spoiler alert,
they did not look like geodes, and people were paying

(15:12):
for it. Now, the ethics of this arrangement with prater
remained hotly debated in online communities. Was Praterer exploiting Chris
or providing some sort of legitimate business management service. The
answer likely dependent on perspective, but probably a little bit
of both. But let's go back to that Dallas Airport siding. Okay,

(15:35):
because Chris had barely left Virginia before, had last flown
on an airplane thirty five years prior back in nineteen
eighty nine. He was now navigating international airports, passport control, customs,
and eleven hour flights. For someone with Chris Chan's documented
difficulties with executive function, planning, stress management of it, this

(16:01):
represented a pretty significant achievement. Then you wonder how was
Chris affording these trips? Well, that's likely through a combination
of his tug boat, which people call his SSI disability payments,
his tugboat, also the official quick Mart sales, and then
possible financial assistance from Flutter, her family or Prayer. Now,

(16:25):
the fact that Chris was traveling with Flutter suggested that
she was either funding the trips or they were splitting costs,
and the consistent presence of Flutter in Chris's life had
become the most stable relationship Chris had ever maintained. In
September of twenty twenty four, Chris and Flutter returned to Finland.
On September twenty seventh, Chris was captured on security camera

(16:47):
footage at the Mall of Tripla in Helsinki, shopping at
a store called Normal. On September twenty eighth, an Instagram
user filmed a brief clip of Chris and Flutter walking
together at the mall. The user sent the footage to
Genae Samuel shout out bro who does the He's the
creator of the comprehensive Chris chan documentary series on YouTube. Again,
it's like eighty episodes, hundreds of hours of content. If

(17:11):
you want literal A to Z day by day, Gino
Samuel is your man. But this second trip in September
confirmed that Finland wasn't a one time adventure. Chris and
Flutter were making repeated international journeys. Also in September twenty
twenty four, Chris launched a new website called Quicklight with
Prater's assistants. That site, Quicklight also served as an additional

(17:34):
platform for selling merchandise, posting blog entries, and sharing more
about the snachuu universe, and also promoting upcoming projects. But
Chris's online activity was now carefully curated, also monetized, and
in ways that it hadn't been during the pre jail years.

(17:55):
If you recall, Chris tried to make those ghetto ass
medallions that fell apart or the paint wiped off on people.
He would commission a three hundred dollars art piece of
art and then not send it. But now he had
a legitimate platform. People were receiving their items, People were
receiving exactly what they asked for. So it had been
monetized in ways that it never had been and organized

(18:17):
in ways that it never had been. On August fourteenth
of twenty twenty four, YouTube channel Quickville Guardian reached one
hundred thousand subscribers. Chris immediately celebrated on Twitter, announcing that
YouTube owed him a silver play button, the award YouTube
gives the channels reaching that threshold. On August thirty first,

(18:38):
Chris uploaded a video commemorating the achievement by having received
the official award in the mail. And this was a
surreal moment. Chris Freakin' Chan, who had been arrested for
incest just three years prior, whose name was synonymous with
Internet infamy, now had a six figure subscriber count on

(18:59):
YouTube tube and also likely six figure income from selling
his merchandise. And to be clear, the subscribers aren't and
to be clear, his sscribers largely are not fans at
least in the traditional sense. Most were observers, lurkers, crystorians, documentarians,

(19:19):
and just people fascinated by the overall spectacle. But that
being said, the numbers were real and they translated to
ad revenue, So add YouTube as another source of income.
Chris's channel was generating income simply from people watching to
see what he would do next. Then, in December of

(19:40):
twenty twenty four, Christ and Flutter made a third trip
to Finland. On December seventeenth, they were spotted in a
shopping center in a neighborhood suburb of Helsinki. After this sighting,
Chris wouldn't be seen for two months until February twenty
twenty five, suggesting that he may have spent an extended
period of time in Finland over the holidays, possibly staying

(20:01):
through the new year. In this pattern of repeated Finland visits,
often lasting weeks at a time, suggested Flutter had significant
ties to the country. Speculations centered on a couple possibilities.
Flutter was Finish or a Finish descent, Flutter had family
in Finland. Flutter was studying or working in Finland. Or

(20:23):
Flutter and Chris were considering relocating and moving there. The
truth remained elusive, and to be honest, it's still elusive.
But in a May twenty five call with a Ween,
Chris was directly asked about Flutter and Finland, and Chris
denied everything. Claimed he'd never even been to Finland, said
Flutter lived in Philadelphia and was attending college there, but

(20:46):
couldn't provide any specific details. When pressed, Chris refused to
reveal Flutter's real name, even when offered bribes of fifty
on one hundred and fifty dollars purchases from a Zetzy store.
He simply stated, her name shall not be revealed. And y'all,
those of you who have been through the twenty three

(21:07):
episode Hellscape, that is the story. This is not normal Chris.
Chris announced everything. If you recall, he could not keep
his lips closed anytime a woman was involved. The lies
about Finland were transparent. Photographic evidence and video footage proved

(21:27):
Chris had been there multiple times, but Chris was clearly
protecting Flutter's identity and privacy, perhaps the first time again
Chris had ever successfully kept a secret in decades, If
ever and were in twenty twenty five. Officially, throughout January,
Chris only uploaded a few video game reviews to YouTube,
like Mundane Content reviewing action figures toys, the kind of

(21:51):
material that Chris had been producing for years. On Valentine's Day,
February fourteenth, Chris and Flutter were spotted together at Pet
and Aquatic Warehouse in Lynchburg, Virginia, and observers noted that
Chris's fashion sense had become significantly and noticeably more conventional.
Gone were the feminine clothing items. Chris previously was a

(22:14):
fan of brightly colored tights and things like that. Super feminine,
superfeminine clothing with bright colors off the wall, always had
the medallion on. Chris had worn that kind of stuff
from twenty sixteen through about twenty twenty three. Instead, now
Chris was wearing a nondescript black hoodie and baggy jeans.
Chris's signature blue hair was fading to a grayish natural color.

(22:39):
The custom painted shoes remained naturally, but otherwise Chris looked
more normal than he had in years. The fashion evolution
coincided with the Finland trips. Had Flutter influenced Chris's style,
or had Chris independently decided to blend in better. Some
observers speculated that Flutter had had set ground roles for

(23:01):
the relationship, possibly including appearance standards, hopefully hygiene. Others suggested
that Chris was simply aging and becoming less attached to
gender expression experiments. Later in February, Barbara fucking' Chandler was
photographed and recorded speaking to visitors at fourteen branch Lin
Court for the first time since January of twenty twenty four.

(23:24):
She appeared to be living alone at the house, though
details of her life remained private. March twenty twenty five
marked the second full year since Chris's release from jail.
On March fourteenth, Chris ended a YouTube hiatus by posting
two videos, a reading of a previously unreleased Sauna Chew
story chapter and two a live stream playing Sonic the Hedgehog.

(23:47):
The Sonic the Hedgehog playthrough continued through the end of
the month, marking Chris's return to gaming content, and March
was also the twenty fifth anniversary of Sauna Chew's creation.
Twenty five years after creating the character, Chris was still
creating Sona Chew content, and it was now officially monetized

(24:08):
through Prater's merchandise operation. Chris also became considerably more active
on social media in March, making several dozen posts across
both Twitter and Blue Sky. The posts were typical Chris things,
sunachew Laura updates, complaint about everything my Little Pony Generation
five promotion to merchandise, and occasional and occasional rants about

(24:31):
perceived slights. Now current information from the best that I
could find suggests that Chris spent most or all of
April twenty twenty five in Finland. On a fourth known visit,
on April second, a Chiue Farms user posted about spotting
Chris at the mall of Tripla in Helsinki on that date.

(24:53):
On April seventeenth, Chris and Flutter were seen eating at Arnold's,
a restaurant in Helsinki. Additional sightings throughout April confirms that
Chris was spending extended periods of time in Finland, possibly
staying for weeks or even months at a time, and
Chris's online activity during April was also minimal, just a
single Twitter post at the very end of the month.

(25:15):
In May of twenty twenty five, a Weien managed to
get Chris on the phone and directly questioned him about
Flutter and Finland. I mentioned this call a moment ago.
Chris lied extensively. He claimed he'd never been to Finland,
he wasn't learning finish on due Lingo. Flutter lived in Philadelphia,
Flutter was attending college in Philadelphia. He couldn't provide any

(25:39):
details about what Flutter was studying, he couldn't name any
Philadelphia landmarks or locations, and he refused to reveal Flutter's
name for any amount of money. All of this was
transparently false. Photographic evidence, video footage, eye witness accounts, and
social media posts had thoroughly documented Chris's moultiple Finland trips.

(26:01):
You guys, Chris is so freaking notorious that he went
to Finland no offense to no offense to my Finland
peeps that I have never heard of someone that's like, yeah,
let's go to Finland, you know, no offense. But he
is so well known that someone who worked at the
mall and saw the security footage, pulled it and uploaded

(26:22):
it to rendit. On July twenty third, twenty twenty five,
Chris and Flutter were spotted one hundred and sixty miles
away from Helsinki in Finland, far away from the capitol
where all of the other previous sightings had occurred, and
he was in a small coastal city with only about
thirty thousand residents. It's not a tourist destination. There's obviously

(26:44):
no reason that Chris would be there unless Flutter had
specific connections to the area. The eyewitness on the ground
that reported this because again and rural Finland people know
who Chris chan Is, said that Chris attempted to speak
Finnish to a cashier, but struggled and then switched to England.
On August thirteenth of twenty twenty five, Chris and Flutter
were spotted and recorded shopping at a Walmart in Lynchburg, Virginia,

(27:08):
and the video provided the clearest image of Flutter's face
to date, finally giving observers a detailed look at this
mysterious little blonde woman who had been by Chris's side
for going on two years. Flutter appears to be in
her late twenties or early thirties, blonde hair, super delicate features,
and she seems comfortable with Chris, walking alongside him, naturally

(27:31):
helping him select items like they appeared normal. The Walmart
employee who recorded the video noted that Chris was wearing
what appeared to be a new sonachuw medallion and still
had the amulet in everything. This confirmed that Chris hadn't
fully abandoned in the signature accessories despite the more conventional
clothing style. Now just last month, you guys were getting close.

(27:54):
September twenty twenty five saw multiple sightings of Chris around Virginia.
September seventh, at the Barnes and Noble at Valley View
Mall in Roanoke. Flutter was present but separated at the
time of the photo. September eighth, the DMV in Lynchburg,
sitting with Flutter. September twenty fifth, Sheets Convenience Store in

(28:15):
Lynchburg with Chris wearing a medallion. Three These sightings paint
a picture of a relatively normal life, shopping, running errands,
maintaining vehicle registration, and getting snacks at Sheets. The established
pattern from twenty twenty four and twenty twenty five suggests
that Chris spends several months per year in Finland with Flutter.

(28:37):
That Chris returns to Virginia periodically living at the Big
Island House. That Chris maintains contact with Barbara, but they
don't live together. Chris continues creating content and selling merchandise,
and Chris's daily life is largely much more stable than
at any previous point that we've seen, and we are

(28:57):
approaching present day. You guys, not to get too cheesy here,
but I think it's worth pausing to consider for a
moment what this story represents. For eighteen years since Chris's
discovery in two thousand and seven, thousands and thousands of
people have documented, discussed, and in many cases, actively intervened

(29:23):
with Chris's life. The Quickie, the most comprehensive wiki of
all time documenting Chris's life, contains over ten thousand articles.
It's one of the most detailed records of any individual
person's life ever created. This documentation yon it has included,

(29:43):
and again The Quickie is the number one source for
Christian and for these episodes. The documentation on this site
includes recording recorded phone calls without consent, publishing private correspondence,
filming Chris in public without his knowledge or permission, doxing
family members and associates, contacting Chris's employers and causing job losses,

(30:06):
impersonating romantic interests that happen dozens, if not over one
hundred times, manipulating Chris into embarrassing situations, interfering with legal proceedings,
and much much more. And I mentioned when I first
started covering Christian that it was kind of an uncomfortable
line of what's exploitative versus what's just interesting facts and storytelling,

(30:31):
because there is a sincere ethical question here. When does
observation become harassment? When does documentation become exploitation? When does
internet culture actually cross the line into genuine harm? A
term emerged in recent years, and if you ever get
on the Reddit, you'll see it mentioned a lot, and

(30:51):
it's called carpetbaggers. And in this context, it's referring to
people who profit from Chris without his meaningful consent or understanding.
And this category includes YouTubers creating monetized documentary content, merchandise
sellers using Chris's image and characters, convention organizers exploiting Chris's notoriety,

(31:15):
and yes, possibly although we do not know, potentially a
prayer and also myself, you guys, I am also and
here I sit the biggest hypocrite of all also monetizing

(31:37):
this content for this podcast, and I've mentioned it many times,
like Geno Samuel's Chris chan a comprehensive history documentary series
has over one hundred episodes and millions of views. It's
monetized through ads, sponsorships, Patreon support. Gino has created an
entire series about Chris without securing formal rights things like that.

(32:02):
In twenty twenty three, g began selling knockoff Sonachuw medallions
and want Woman t shirts, profiting directly from Chris's infamy,
and Chris has complained about this on social media, but
lacks the resources or legal sophistication to enforce copyright claims effectively.
Edmund McMillan, creator of the Binding of Isaac, included a

(32:23):
Sauna Chew reference in his game without Chris's permission, generating
controversy when Chris's twenty twenty one arrest became public and
McMillan had to explain why his game referenced an incest criminal.
The list of people who have profited from Chris Chan's
misery is long and growing, and again I'm on it
as well. Now then you have Prater, which Prater occupies

(32:46):
a complicated position in this ecosystem. On one hand, they
pay Chris royalties, They provide housing, they assist with professional
video production. They helped Chris maintain a healthy and robust
online presence and provides stability and structure that Chris has never, ever,
ever had. On the other hand, we don't know the
percentage Chris receives from sales the rent that's paid to Cayden.

(33:10):
The power dynamic is inherently unequal here, and Chris's ability
to truly consent to business arrangements is questionable at best.
Prater profits from Chris's notoriety, which stems from years of exploitation.
Yet Prater has maintained this relationship with Chris longer than

(33:30):
almost any other associate. The partnership has lasted from late
twenty twenty through twenty twenty five, nearly five years. That
longevity suggests the arrangement serves Chris's needs in some fashion,
And don't forget how, And don't forget the home that
Chris Chan grew up in. His father Bob, mother Barb

(33:51):
no real therapy, no help, no support, with two parents
that fought and were pretty awful, and as awful as
Bob Chandler was still gave Chris at least some semblance
of normalcy and routine. So then there's flutter and flutter
remains the greatest mystery in modern christory. Who is she?

(34:13):
Why is she with Chris? What does she get out
of this relationship? Several theories have emerged here. Maybe she
is a genuine romantic interest. Some belief Flutter genuinely cares
for Chris, perhaps seeing past the infamy to the person underneath.
This theory is supported by their apparent comfort together and
Flutter's protective behavior over Chris when they're out in public.

(34:37):
Others suspect Flutters being compensated, either by Chris prator or
a third party to provide companionship management services that would
explain her patience and consistency. Or what if she's a caretaker.
For the longest time before they saw any romantic gestures
between Chris and Flutter, people thought that Flutter is functioning

(34:58):
as a paid or volunteer caretaker, helping Chris navigate life
post incarceration while maintaining appropriate boundaries. And then the darkest
theory suggests that Flutter is manipulating Chris for her own
purposes access to money, internet fame, psychological gratification from controlling
someone vulnerable. The truth is likely some combination of all

(35:21):
of these factors. You know, human relationships are complex, and
Chris's situation exponentially more so. But what we can observe
is that Flutter has maintained a consistent presence for going
on two years. She travels internationally with Chris multiple times
a year. She moderates Chris's behavior in public, she maintains

(35:42):
her privacy despite intense intense Internet interest, and Chris appears
happy and more stable. Now, whether this represents a healthy
relationship or sophisticated exploitation, only time will tell. And then
there's the Barbara question. She is the one person who
has been conspicuously absent from recent Christory Barbara Chandler. Barbara

(36:08):
is now eighty three years old. She appears to be
living alone at fourteen Branchlan Court. She spotted out occasionally,
but mostly just recently in February, speaking to visitors who
knocked on her door. The emergency protective order from July
twenty twenty one preventing contact between Chris and Barbara was
just temporary. It only lasted one week. There's no current

(36:30):
restraining order preventing them from interacting yet. Chris is forty
five miles away in Big Island and doesn't appear to
visit regularly. Is this a legal condition of the dismissed
case that we don't know about. Is it Chris's choice,
his own choice to maintain distance. Is Flutter's influence keeping
Chris away? Or is it Barb's preference to have privacy?

(36:53):
We don't know. What we do know is that the
relationship between Chris and Barbara, whatever it may have been,
has obviously fundamentally changed. Barbara raised Chris alone after Bob
died in twenty eleven. She supported Chris financially and emotionally
through countless crises, and she enabled and likewise she enabled

(37:14):
most of Chris's worst behaviors I guess, for better or worse.
And then in twenty twenty one, something happened between them
that resulted in criminal charges, national news coverage, and a
permanent alteration of their relationship. Barbara's perspective on all of
this has never been publicly documented. She gave no interviews,

(37:37):
she didn't testify at a trial because there was no trial.
She simply returned to her home and resumed her life
with whatever dignity remained possible, And for all of the
documentation in Chris's life, Barbara remains a tragic mystery a
woman in her eighties whose final years have been defined
by scandal and isolation, and no discussion of modern Christory

(38:01):
would be complete without addressing Kiwi Farms. Kiwi Farms, originally
called quicki Forums, was founded in twenty thirteen specifically to
discuss Chris. It later expanded to documenting hundreds of Internet personalities,
almost always in really nasty and hostile terms. The site

(38:21):
has been connected to countless harassment campaigns, doxing, stalking, and
has been credibly linked to at least three suicides of
people who were targeted by users. In September of twenty
twenty two, kiwi Farms was temporarily taken offline after cloud
Flare discontinued protection services they cited imminent an emergency threat

(38:42):
to human life. The site has since returned through various
hosting providers, but it still remains super controversial and has
been blocked by multiple ISPs in the couple countries. Kiwi
FARMS's role in Christory cannot be overstated. The site has
archived and distributed leaked content, coordinated observation of Chris, hosted

(39:05):
discussions that influenced Chris's life, served as a hub for
trolls and weeds and preserved evidence that would otherwise be lost,
but at what cost. The same platform that documents has
also destroyed lives. The same community that preserves history has
also ruined people. Chris is simultaneously Kiwi FARMS's most documented

(39:29):
subject and one of its most abused targets. The sites
recorded Chris's decline while also contributing to it through member harassment,
and lastly, all let's talk about where we are now.
As of this recording October seventh, at ten fifty pm,
Chris is forty three years old. Chris maintains a superactive

(39:51):
online presence, though more controlled than in previous eras. YouTube
videos appear regularly, mostly gaming content, figure reviews, and Sonachube
war updates. The Quickville Guardian chap The Quickville Guardian YouTube
channel has well over one hundred thousand subscribers. Official quick

(40:11):
Mark continues selling merchandise, quick Light hosts blog posts and
product listings. Chris travels regularly between Virginia and Finland, spending
months at a time in each location. The relationship with
Flutter continues, now approaching two years, longer than any of
Chris's previous relationships. Reel or imagined. Chris lives in a

(40:33):
rented house in Big Island, Virginia, pays rent to Cayden Peck,
receives disability payments, and apparently maintains enough income through merchandise
sales to fund international travel. Barbara lives alone at fourteen
Branchling Court in Rutgersville, Virginia. She's now eighty three years
old and apparently and reasonable health. The incest charge from

(40:54):
twenty twenty one has been dismissed. Chris has no criminal
record from that incident. Legally, it's as if it never happened,
though the court of public opinion tells a vastly different story.
Chris's name remains synonymous with Internet infamy. Google searches return
news articles about the arrest. The Quickie preserves every single

(41:16):
detail that comes out. YouTube documentaries ensure new generations discover
the story. I mean, I know, the joke of true
crime is that the demographic is like women twenty through
forty five, something like that, Right, that's kind of the joke.
It's I mean, would any of you have learned about
Chris Chan in the late two thousands, Probably not. And

(41:39):
yet Chris continues day by day, month by month, year
by year, Chris is still making the rounds everywhere, and
there are still so many questions that remain here. Will
Barb and Chris reconcile? Will Chris ever return to fourteen
branch in court? Will the prayed partnership end? Will Chris
get himself into new legal trouble? Will Flutter's I density

(42:00):
ever be revealed? What is her actual story? And most fundamentally,
what happens when the observation ends? For eighteen years, Chris
has lived under constant documentation. Every single public appearance is photographed,
Every social media post is archived, Every life development is

(42:20):
analyzed by thousands. But what if everyone just stops watching?
Would Chris thrive without the attention? Would Chris collapse without
the external structure observation provides? Would Chris simply exists unremarkably
like millions of other middle aged disabled Americans. We don't know,
We may never know. What we do know is that

(42:42):
this is a story that involved real people. Chris is
a real person, profoundly troubled, deeply flawed, diagnosed with developmental disabilities,
raised in a dysfunctional environment, traumatized by years of targeted harassment,
and responsible for serious and heinous wrongdoing. Barbara's a real person.

(43:02):
She I guess kind of tried and seemingly impossible circumstances.
She made countless mistakes. She suffered public humiliation in her eighties,
and her final years have been marked by scandal. Flutters
also a real person with her own story, her own motivations,
her own life that has now intersected with one of

(43:23):
the Internet's most notorious human beings. Trolls, weans and documentarians
are also real people. Some are genuinely interested in preservation,
others are seeking entertainment, and others others still want to
inflict psychological harm just for gratification. And the observers listeners

(43:45):
like you, are also real people. You're wrestling with questions
about ethics, empathy, and the nature of modern Internet culture.
In researching this episode, I read thousands of Quickie pages.
I watched dozen. I can't even say dozens, y'all, I
watch hundreds. I watched the whole fucking Geno Samuel documentary
from start to finish. I reviewed court documents, social media archives,

(44:09):
I witness accounts, and as I was tying up this
final episode, I was looking over pictures, you know, thinking
about what kind of cover art I was going to
do for this episode, and I kept looking at one image,
and it's a picture of Flutter and Chris in Finland.
They're holding hands. Chris is finally experiencing something that he
had dreamed about for decades, traveling to a foreign country

(44:33):
with a companion, and that moment was captured accidentally in
the background of a stranger's video. Chris looks almost normal, happy,
even just two random people at an amusement park enjoying
a spring day. Eighteen years of documentation, hundreds of thousands

(44:54):
of hours of content, millions and millions of words written,
Countless lives have been impacted, and it led to this,
a middle aged person with disabilities holding hands with someone
at an amusement park. Maybe the Chris Chand story doesn't
even need a grand conclusion. Maybe Chris just continues imperfectly, messily,

(45:20):
humanly living a life that thousands watch but no one understands,
because at the end of all of the documentation and
analysis and debate, we return to a singular, simple truth.
Chris is a person flawed, strange, troubled, harmful at times

(45:40):
beyond yes, absolutely, but a person nonetheless trying to navigate existence.
With the tools available to them, and that perhaps at
the core of it is the actual story that we've
been documenting all along. And that's it, you guys. This
has been the Chris chan Saga from twenty twenty one
one to twenty twenty five. This is the final episode.

(46:03):
I drew research for this series from the Quickie court records,
news reports, archive, social media, I witness accounts. I've attempted
to present factual information without the sensationalism, while acknowledging the
serious nature of the allegations and events described. And I
just want to say to Chris, to Barbara, to Flutter

(46:25):
and everyone caught in this strange web, I hope all
of you find peace, whatever that looks like. And that
is it for today, you guys. Thank you for sticking around,
Thank you for tuning in. This has been a very
This has been the longest series that I have ever done,
and I really appreciate those of you who tuned in,
whether willingly or begrudgingly, just because it's new content, and

know that we will be switching it up and next

next week's schedule, Tuesday Horror movie episode with I Friday
True Crime Episode Sunday New episode third one in fact

am getting the sorted now. I am back, and I'm
bringing back the monthly postcards starting in November. So here's
how it works. I pick a random place in the world,
I decide to cover a particular case from a city
in that country, and then I send you a unique
custom postcard in the mail from that city or state

(47:52):
and there's a hint on that postcard, so you'll have
basically most of the month to try to figure out
what the case is. Then the episode drops, which is
Patreon only, and it's basically a fun little mystery within
a mystery, and I really liked doing that. So that
is actually coming back as of November. So if you
were in the Patreon and left, please email me at
