Intro/Outro Music (00:13):
Aloha, and
welcome to Your Heart Magic, an
illuminating space wherepsychology, spirituality, and
heart wisdom meet.
Here's your host, Dr.
Bethane Kapansky Wright,author, psychologist, and
spiritual educator.
Dr. BethAnne Kapansky Wr (00:32):
Aloha,
everybody.
Welcome to Your Heart Magic.
This is Dr.
Bethane Kapansky Wright.
And we have a little bit of apotpourri episode today.
We are doing a mini energyupdate and tying it into some
perspectives on some things thatI actually wrote down post-full
(00:53):
moon for myself on things thatI'm releasing and working on
changing and transforming atthis time.
And so I took my personal listand three things that I thought
might be applicable to others, and I'm sharing some of that
today.
But first, let me start with amini energy update because it
ties into the topic.
(01:13):
And I often will open theAkashic Records and get an image
for the month ahead.
Sometimes it might be for theweek ahead.
I love the Akashic Records, andI've been a longtime recipient
of their wisdom.
And I really enjoy tapping intothem to ask about collective
energies and just get a littleblurb that can help us orient
(01:36):
ourselves to what is the overallenergy right now.
And I asked about the week ofthe full moon that just
happened, the full harvest moongoing into this first half of
October.
And what I saw was an image ofsomebody who was walking on a
trail and they had gum on theirfeet, like sticky black, gummy
(01:57):
substance, like they'd steppedin something and they were
trying to take these steps, butthey were really impeded by this
gummy stuff.
And then the image shifted.
And what I saw was thisindividual somehow managed to
shed the gummy, sticky stufffrom their shoes and was then
walking forward with morefreedom and ease, and was able
(02:19):
to have a greater sense offreedom in their stride.
And that was the energy that Iwas given for this week.
That it's as if all of us rightnow have been going through
this de-gumming, if you will.
I think I just made that wordup, of our sticky shoes.
And we have been cleaning offthe stuff, the gunk, the goo,
(02:40):
the gum, the sticky things, theattachments, the stuff that's
holding us back, and takingthose and kind of cleaning our
energy off, cleaning ourpathways up so that we can move
forward with more freedom andmore peace and feeling less
hindered by some of the thingsthat hold us back.
So that's a very encouragingmessage right now.
(03:00):
I am here for it.
And it ties in reallybeautifully with the message of
the full moon because full moonsalways have a certain energy to
them.
No matter what astrologicalsign they might fall in, that
gives more nuance to what thatparticular full moon might be
about or what themes might comeup for that moon that might be
(03:22):
influenced by being in thatsign.
We always know that full moonsare a time of completion.
They are a time of abundance.
Sometimes they can feel veryintense, but also very
celebratory.
And they're also a time ofrelease.
They are a time of being ableto unlayer and shed anything
(03:44):
that we don't wish to carry withus into the next 28-day moon
cycle.
I personally think that nomatter where the moon is at, we
can always declare any moment intime, a time that we're ready
to release or to let go or totransform.
But I do think there's certaintimes where the energy is extra
amplified and really supportsthat work and maybe even helps
(04:07):
us increase our intention orsupports us in letting go with a
little bit more ease.
And so full moon can be a timeof completion, a time of seeing
something come full circle orcome to an ending.
And with that, might bereleased work that we do.
So I wanted to share a fewnotes that I made in my journal
from things that I am working onreleasing right now because
(04:27):
they seem really universal tome.
And I've often found that agift of my work as a
psychologist is being able totalk to people now for over 20
years and hear about theirstories and hear so many things
about fears and concerns and theuniversality of so many things
that are themes for all of us.
It might show up in a differentway.
(04:49):
But I think many of us havesome of the same kinds of things
that we're working on and thesame things holding ourselves
back.
And so I thought it might befun to kind of share my own
journal notes and it mightinspire others to see where that
might be coming through intheir life.
So one of the first themes forme for this full moon cycle is I
(05:10):
actually wrote down the wordsjust show up.
And it's the idea that I wantto keep releasing fear and
second-guessing myself,overthinking something, and
continue to feel encouraged tojust show up in the spaces in my
life.
I think so often it's reallyeasy to want something to be
(05:31):
perfect or to feel like we haveto have a certain point of
preparation in order to dosomething or to make a decision.
And there's something to besaid for taking some time to
prepare.
If we've signed up to go on abig trip, then there's probably
some things we need to do toprepare for that trip.
If you show up at the airportwithout a ticket or a passport
(05:54):
and nothing packed, and say, hey, I want to go overseas right
now, you'll probably get there, but you're gonna have a bit of
a bumpy ride and they'reprobably gonna send you back
home to get your passport.
And there's a few things thatyou might want to put in order
in order to create the bestexperience possible.
So there's something to be saidfor preparation.
It can make things go moreeasily.
(06:16):
It can help us feel moresecure, that we have checked the
boxes of what we need to do inorder to move on to the next
stage of something or truly beready.
Sometimes it creates a betterexperience for us if we've taken
the time and given a little bitof forethought.
But at the end of the day, there's a certain point where we
(06:36):
just have to do the thing.
And where we might beoverthinking or questioning or
doubting or thinking that maybeI'm not ready, maybe it's not
for me to do.
And I've often found that ifsomething's really in our heart
or we have committed to doingsomething, then we have to trust
that if we show up, we willhave what we need in order to
(06:58):
have a successful experiencewith whatever level that we're
at.
And something that has been onmy radar lately is just trying
to say yes to opportunities andsay yes to things that present
themselves in my path, particularly if it's something
that intrigues me.
I think many of us can feelinto what a hard no is for us.
(07:21):
So if we are asked, do you wantto do this?
and we can feel, no, absolutelynot.
I have no interest there.
I'm not exactly talking aboutthat.
I'm talking about the kinds ofthings that we are intrigued by.
And they make us think, could Ido that?
What might I experience if Ilet myself do this thing?
(07:41):
Maybe it's something that wedreamed of or something that
we've always said, I really wantto do this.
And then we're given theopportunity and figuring out
that at some point we do justhave to show up.
We put the preparation in, butyou're never going to feel fully
ready if you're waiting for asign that it's time to do the
(08:02):
things that are in your heart,or time to take the dreams that
you have in your mind and putthem down on paper and take that
next step where you reallycommit to them.
We're never going to feel fullyready.
I can honestly say that so manythings I've done in my life,
from speaking to a group ofpeople, teaching something, when
(08:24):
I do choreography, even if I'mreally well prepared, anything
that I've done that puts me in aplace, usually a performance, I
never feel fully 100% I've gotthis.
There's always that questionmark in my mind.
And that's the growth edge.
There's always that piece of Idon't know how it's going to
happen.
I don't know how people mightreceive this or what will be the
(08:48):
response.
I might not know for myself ifI say I'm going to do something.
Will I enjoy it?
Will I not?
Is it going to be a goodexperience?
Will it not be a goodexperience?
And so I found that thosethings that really intrigue me,
that I get called into and thatrequire me to step out onto the
ledge and have a little bit oftrust and take some sort of a
(09:09):
leap of faith, whether that is ahuge grand leap or just a mini
leap where I have to let go ofmy fears and instead step into
self-belief and just doing it.
I think that idea of justshowing up, it's something that
I'm continuing to work on formyself.
And the other side of that isreally continuing to release
(09:32):
that mental chatter that saysyou're not ready or that
overthink something or thatsecond guesses.
I think for many of us, we feellike somebody else is better
equipped to do something.
But if whoever's betterequipped isn't there stepping up
and you are being asked to doit, or it keeps coming in your
(09:52):
path, then it probably meansit's for you to do, not somebody
else.
And I often think that spiritsprinkles this creative genius
and these ideas on many of us,but the amount of people that
will follow through and actuallytake that action step and
ground it and say, I want tofollow this through to
(10:14):
completion kind of narrows thefurther down the path you go.
It's always easier to stay inthe comfort zone and always
harder to push ourselves.
But I can say for myself, thislast year, some of the best
experiences I've had have beenabsolutely outside of the
comfort zone.
And when I put myself out thereand just have seen what
happens.
(10:34):
So the second thing that Iwrote down that dovetails into
this is the idea of not wastingtoo much space when it comes to
insecurity and self-doubt.
I think most people have theseunless you are gifted or you've
worked really hard for a verystellar self-esteem.
I think most of us have ourdoubts about self.
(10:57):
We have our insecurities.
For many of us, that's thestuff we're healing.
Those are the wounds.
Those are some of the placeswhere we bring the light in and
we bring what is in ourunconscious into our
consciousness so we can workwith it in a constructive way
and transmute it and transformit.
I shared on the podcast maybeabout a month ago, where I had a
(11:21):
moment coming back fromchoreography, and I kind of got
lost in the weeds for a littlebit, second guessing something
that I'd done, something thatI'd said, thinking about how was
something received.
And I had this moment ofclarity of like what a waste of
time it was to even give mentalenergy to that, that there was
nothing good that was going tocome from it.
(11:42):
There's nothing that I could doto go back and have a do-over.
And that I have to trust thatif I'm showing up in the most
authentic way, that I know how, that that's the best I can do.
And most of us are doing thebest that we can do.
We are engaging with life, withthe best we have to give on any
given day.
And some days our best is notour best best.
(12:04):
It's just the best we have onthat day.
And so I think when we wastetime going down these rabbit
holes of what we should havesaid or what we could have done,
or did we do a little bit toomuch of this?
Was it not enough of this?
There might be a tiny dropletin there where there's some
healthy self-reflection thatallows us to have a growth
(12:25):
moment if we need it.
But more often than not, Ithink we're just wasting brain
space.
And we are rehearsing theseinsecurities in ourselves and
seeding the energy and thoseneural networks.
And I think we're better servedby finding ways to let that go
and finding ways to keepredirecting our attention when
(12:48):
we notice that we're doing that.
I think a really good way toredirect is to think about three
things that you can feel goodabout with maybe what you
brought to a situation, or threethings that you're looking
forward to, or focusing onsomething that allows you to tap
into what you want to create asopposed to focusing on what
(13:10):
you're afraid of about yourselfor about how others might
perceive you, things that wereally don't have any control
over.
And for me, a continual work inprogress is just continuing to
let go of things that I can'tcontrol.
I have no control over theoutcome or how I might be
perceived in something, andreally winnowing those down and
(13:35):
identifying that sticky gummystuff, right?
This is the stuff that keeps usstuck or that gets a little bit
sticky.
Recognizing when I'm going intothat cobwebby space of
overfocusing on something that'salready happened, I can't do a
thing about it, and I would beso much better served by
bringing my attention to thepresent, noticing something
(13:57):
beautiful happening in thepresent, and then thinking about
what I want to keep creatingmoving forward.
That leads me to the last notethat I wrote down to share is
something that was a theme forthis full moon that came up for
me and I wanted to impart toeverybody.
And that's the idea that whenwe find ourselves having stress
(14:19):
or worry or self-doubt, to usethat as an opportunity to build
trust and vision.
I was talking about just nowthe idea of redirecting our
thoughts when they start to gointo that cobweby sticky space.
And something that I get a lotof mileage out of is when I find
(14:39):
myself ruminating on somethingor dwelling on something, I
start to think about not onlywhat is the outcome I'd like to
see, but I try and imaginemyself in that space.
So I might imagine myselffeeling peaceful and free and
clear.
Maybe I imagine myself callinga friend and saying, hey, guess
(14:59):
what?
This amazing thing happened, and telling them about something
that I might want to createinstead of the scenario of the
what's the worst thing thatcould happen?
Well, what's the best thingthat could happen?
And picturing myself tellingsomebody that story or saying to
somebody, I was so worriedabout X.
And then it worked out in thisreally amazing way that I
(15:22):
couldn't see, and I felt reallysupported by spirit.
And so I think the idea ofusing those opportunities where
we realize that we're in thesticky place when we're in the
weeds, the kobabby place, andusing that as a time to actively
transform that old stickyenergy and instead focus on what
(15:44):
it is that we want to create, having trust in the process,
having vision for our lives, thinking about who we're
reinventing ourselves into andwho we want to be in this world.
There's so many different toolsfor how we can refocus and
redirect our mind and our heartand our energy in that moment.
(16:04):
But it is an opportunity whenwe find ourselves in that place
to do the redirection and tobuild trust, to build vision, to
build faith, to keep buildingthe path of love and keep
building the path of self-beliefin ourselves and the path of
trusting that we're here for areason and that we are allowed
(16:25):
to make mistakes on the journey.
We're allowed to work throughand transmute trauma.
We're allowed to wander off thepath and figure out that we
wandered off the path and coursecorrect and come back.
All of those things are part ofour journey.
So we don't have to overthink,am I doing it right?
We can surrender a little bitmore into trust.
(16:46):
We can surrender into thelatitude of the way of the heart
and know that grace isavailable no matter where we
are, and that we can always comeback into ourselves anytime we
need to and check in with ourheart compass.
And that the grace of spirit isalways big enough to help
create a new pathway.
(17:07):
If we feel like we've taken adetour or feel like we might
have wanted to do somethingdifferently and we didn't, there
is always space for spirit tomeet us where we're at and help
us create something beautiful.
So, with that, I wanted toshare a passage today from Small
Pearls Big Wisdom that I feellike speaks to some of these
(17:28):
ideas.
And it's really about trustingthe path and letting go.
And I think that is thetakeaway from today's topic.
It is the exhortation to keepfinding what's sticky in your
life, even if it's subtle.
A lot of times the sticky stuffis really subtle.
If it's something bigger, itusually feels like a big
(17:49):
obstacle or a big block.
Sticky stuff is just that.
It's just sticky.
It's the ways that we attach toideas, to old beliefs, to
insecurities, to fear, thosetiny little attachments that
we're being encouraged to keepworking on and scraping off of
our shoe right now and doing therelease work whenever we run
(18:10):
into it and finding a way tokeep moving forward with more
freedom on the path.
This is called the ongoingunknowing.
And as I said, it's from SmallPearls, Big Wisdom, and it's
passage 305.
It happens in layers and wavesover many moon cycles, sea
tides, and the turn of theseason's trees.
(18:32):
We peel back old pieces, release mistruths, and shed pale
imitations as we move closer toour authentic selves.
It's not a one-time process,but an ongoing, unknowing of
self so we can know ourselves inmore soulful ways.
We unbecome to become.
(18:52):
We unknit old threads to knitthe new.
We wander outside old lines todiscover new terrain.
We heal in small intentionalincrements, big, messy
squiggles, and little gracenotes that help us patch
together a bigger, wiser, mosaicself.
We lose ourselves to findourselves and then find
(19:14):
ourselves again, all of itworking together in a gorgeous
alchemical process of soul as wekeep moving closer to love, our
purpose and our truth.
If we can find joy in theunknown, embrace our void, trust
things to unfold, and rememberthat love knows us and we know
love, then love becomes thethread that keeps leading us
(19:38):
through the labyrinth of changeand bringing us to a new
beginning.
This is one of life's greatestmysteries and endless treasures,
the ongoing unknowing.
I will never be able to putlanguage to the infinite
mysteries of the heart's abilityto be perennial.
Something dies and somethingnew is reborn.
(19:59):
We grieve, and our grief watersthe grounds for a new life, and
somehow grace wraps around itall.
But I will gratefully put mytrust in this bigger process,
stay my course, and put my faithin the path of love.
Have an amazing week,everybody.
