Speaker 2 (00:07):
Drive Everywhere with him.

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Now the latest news, weather and trapping. It's more of
what matters to you. From the John Morris Services Studios.

Speaker 4 (00:17):
Good morning, five am on a Monday morning. You're on
Houston's Morning News. I'm Jimmy Barrett. Among our top stories
as we get started this morning, school choice and more
property tax really highlight the governor's State of the State address.
Trump adds big tariffs for China, Canada and Mexico, and
coming up at five o eight some of the things
that will be impacted by these new tariffs. Details in

(00:38):
the minutes ahead. You're on Houston's Forny News. First, we'll
check in for the first time this week with sky Mice.

Speaker 5 (00:43):
So happy to be back at work where we can
be ourselves. All right, let's hit this it in East
Freeway problem. That's a stall lookout outbound right at the
connectors that take you to six ' ten. So that's
a really sticky spot. You have all that merging craziness there.
It's outbound, not inbound. And then Golf Freeway. This is
a wreck on the exit ramp southbound outbound at five eighteen.

(01:05):
Watch that right lane, and man, we've got fog all
over the place too. We'll talk about that at five
ten and the Generators Supercenter, dot Com Traffic Center.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
From r KTRH top tax Defenders, twenty four hour Weather Center.
For today, we're looking at pretty much morning fog in
a few spots anyway than partly Clottie, with a high
temperature right around eighty degrees. We'll get the very latest
on the forecast Terry Smith at the Weather Channel in
nine minutes.

Speaker 6 (01:29):
Temperature currently is sixty three at.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
Your official severe weather station, News Radio seven forty k TRH.
It's time now for the news. There's Cliff Sanders, Thank you, Jimmy.

Speaker 7 (01:40):
Good morning everybody. It's five oho one on kh E RHR.
Top story.

Speaker 8 (01:44):
We must pass school choice this session.

Speaker 7 (01:49):
Jaxas Governor Greg Abbott at the State of the State
last night, making school choice a priority item for the legislature.
Property taxes are also on the list, and the governor
specifically called out Harris County Democrats.

Speaker 6 (02:03):
That will only.

Speaker 9 (02:04):
Work if local authorities cannot use loopholes to jack up
your property Texas like Harris County.

Speaker 7 (02:13):
Did past the eight percent threshold that they had talked
about that. Audio is courtesy of CW thirty nine. Also
in Austin, two bills that have flown under the radar,
one for prayer time in schools, the other for the
placement of the Ten Commandments.

Speaker 10 (02:28):
Both were filed by State Rep. David Spiller from Jacksborough.

Speaker 11 (02:33):
On the bill owned providing a time for prayer, we
can't say the state's dictating anything. This is all about
local control. Local school boards can decide if they want
to do this.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Or they don't.

Speaker 6 (02:43):
And as for the Ten Commandments.

Speaker 11 (02:45):
We're not getting into curriculum or anything. This bill is
about reminding people about the principles that our country and
our site were built on.

Speaker 10 (02:53):
Spiller says he expects both bills to pass sometime this session.
Jeff Biggs, News k t RA.

Speaker 7 (03:02):
And Representative Spiller will join us at seven twenty. It's
five oh three. President Donald Trump is back in Washington
and he is not backing off after placing twenty five
percent tariffs on Canada and Mexico.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
That have to balance out there.

Speaker 12 (03:16):
Andres number one that we've got to stop people for
bloring into our country.

Speaker 8 (03:21):
And we've stopped it.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
They haven't stopped it.

Speaker 13 (03:23):
We've stopped it.

Speaker 12 (03:24):
They have to stop people for boring in and we
have to stop Ventanola that includes China.

Speaker 7 (03:29):
Wall Street is not happy. This morning, Dow futures are
down almost six hundred points, but there is this. After
meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Panama's president says
he will end a key development deal with China that's
connected to the Panama Canal. Now five oh four on KTRH.

Speaker 6 (03:53):
Yeah, those are the sounds of.

Speaker 7 (03:54):
An anti ICE protest in Houston this weekend, one of
several across the state.

Speaker 6 (04:00):
We saw them in Dallas.

Speaker 7 (04:01):
We also saw them in Flugerville, where protesters delayed border
wall construction on Saturday. Meantime, ICE arrests are or rather
ICE arresting up to seven illegals during a construction site
rate in Philadelphia this weekend, rates that were not happening
under former President Joe Biden.

Speaker 6 (04:23):
Trump is winning.

Speaker 7 (04:24):
Over the public, even after as the left wing media
continues to attack him. CNN recently signed a poll showing
a nine point gain in Trump's approval rating compared to
eight years ago. Box's Stewart Varney says Democrats are headed
in the opposite direction.

Speaker 14 (04:39):
Democrats are in deep trouble. They may be making a
lot of noise. Bot voters are leaving them behind. The
go to party now is the GOP. We haven't seen
this in years. There's a pattern here. Trump and the
Republicans are gaining popularity, the Democrats are sinking.

Speaker 7 (04:53):
Rasmussen's latest numbers have Trump at fifty two percent approval.
More Americans are starting to reject the left wing media,
and now conservative media outlets are seeing a massive growth
and popularity.

Speaker 15 (05:07):
By contrast, more and more left wing outlets are falling
by the wayside.

Speaker 16 (05:10):
There's a lot of culling actually going on on the
left because they're all sort of interchangeable with each other.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
A lot of them are.

Speaker 16 (05:16):
Declaring bankruptcy, going under firing writers.

Speaker 15 (05:19):
Bill Degostino with the Media Research Center says this is
creating an opportunity for other businesses to support right wing media.

Speaker 16 (05:25):
When there's a market to be cornered, say for like
a conservative pr industry. All you need is one or
two enterprising individuals with a decent amount of money and
a couple of connections.

Speaker 15 (05:33):
He says that Trump allowing new right wing media into
the White House press room will also help this trend continue.
Ethan Buchanan News Radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 6 (05:41):
Chomming up now on five oh six.

Speaker 7 (05:49):
Volume Scary moments on a United Airlines flight out of
Bush yesterday forced to abort takeoff because of an engine problem.
One hundred and four passengers in five crew members were evacuated.
Nobody was heard. The FAA is investigating. The NTSB has
recovered the cockpit voice recorder from the Philadelphia Medical jet

(06:09):
crash that killed seven people, and fifty five of the
sixty seven victims from last week's did dead a mid
air DC collision have been recovered from the Potomac River.

Speaker 6 (06:20):
Looking at Your Money.

Speaker 7 (06:21):
After several attempts to raise rates, Center Point reaches a
settlement to reduce rates by a dollar per month. But
has the energy provider learned from what went wrong during
Hurricane Beryl.

Speaker 17 (06:33):
We had a high demand just a few weeks ago
with that really cold weather that we had here and
throughout the state of Texas, and Center Point reported, you know,
ninety nine point nine percent service.

Speaker 7 (06:45):
David Holt with the Consumer Energy Alliance says the rate
reduction amounts to a fifty million dollars annual revenue loss
for Center Point and as you head to the office
this morning, you know that more flexible environment you had
during COVID Kiss it Goodbye.

Speaker 18 (07:01):
Employers are looking for ways to improve on their work
environment while still caring about their employee schedule.

Speaker 19 (07:07):
The same employers that didn't care about their employees five
years ago don't care about their employees today. The good
ones do, the bad ones dope, and that's not going
to change.

Speaker 18 (07:16):
National speaker and work culture expert Joel zeph says what
could change, though, is how a company finds their success.

Speaker 19 (07:22):
I think it's really a case by case basis. It
really is what works best for the office, what works
best for the team.

Speaker 18 (07:30):
Jar Lewis News Radio seven forty KR eight and at
five oh seven, do we have an early spring?

Speaker 6 (07:35):
Well maybe maybe not?

Speaker 7 (07:36):
Punk Satani Phil saw his shadow yesterday, which means six
more weeks of winter. But Texas is bkve Bob the Armadillo, Yeah,
he did not see his shadow yesterday.

Speaker 6 (07:47):
Okay, means we get an early spring. I'm going with
Bob so am.

Speaker 7 (07:50):
I I'm Cliff Saunders on Houston's news weather in traffic
station k TRH HT two.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
It's US Radio seven forty KGRH on it FM Houston's News, Weather,
Traffic and Talk at ninety.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Nine two.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
Oh mordineros for the avocados from Mexico. Five oh eight
is our time here in Houston's Warning news. More more
money for Canadian products, more money for products from China.
The person I'm making good on his promise on Saturday
to impose deep tariffs on Canada, China, and Mexico, all
of whom have decided that rather than blink, they're gonna

(08:30):
go ahead and retaliate.

Speaker 6 (08:31):
At least that's what they say they're going to do.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
This.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
This is a big This is a big game of chicken,
is what this is. Who's going to or polo depending
on your language. This is this is going to be
interesting to see who blinks first. There's a there's a
lot of a lot of flexing, for lack of a
better term, a lot of flexing going on right now. Ontario,

(08:55):
Canada is evidently so mad about the tariffs that their
premier has posed a no alcohol from the United States.
So they're pulling They're pulling alcohol off the shelves produced
in the United States. Just as your modello, if you
enjoy Mexican beer, your modello will cost more if it's important,

(09:16):
do we make any modello here or is it all
made in Mexico. Tequila will get more expensive, I'm pointing out.
I'm pointing out the obvious stuff. Lumber from Canada gets
more expensive. We import quite a bit of that. We
import quite a bit of ooil from Canada right now,
mainly because we don't make enough of our own. Maybe that,
I think that's part of the idea here that Trump's

(09:38):
trying to do too, is just kind of give the
industry a little nudge. Okay, this is going to cost
you more. We need to produce it here now. So
maybe that's part of what he's trying to do with this.
But I think the biggest thing he's trying to do
is he's trying to see who is going to cooperate
and who is not going to cooperate with the things
he's asking them to do, you know, more control of
the border, keeping fentanol from coming into our country, those

(10:00):
types of things. So rather than to agree with the
president of those things, evidently in Mexico, as President and
the Canadian premiere have decided, the Prime Minister have decided
that they're just going to well, if you're gonna put
tariffs on us. We'll put tariffs on you. Okay, Well,
let's see how long of this whole thing last. Let'sten
you blinks five ten tip for traffic and weather together

(10:21):
as we check out the drive again to skyline.

Speaker 5 (10:23):
All right, we've got that stall on the east side.
It ten outbound right at six ten. He's right in
the merged spot outbound, not inbound, so just watch out.
That's where everybody gets kind of crazy, and a lot
of trucks right there, and we're all just kind of
bundled up, and it's not causing a backup. It's just
where we bundle. So let's watch out on the outbound
as you're passing wayside inbound, you look good, although fog

(10:44):
is a bit of a concern here, especially on the
south side. I'm looking at this camera here at Golfing Broadway.
We don't have our wreck yet at the golf Freeway
and the south Loop either way, but it is I'm
just judging by this. The visibility is a little sticky,
so we'll get that. Let me know, let me know
if you can see what you can't see. Seven one
three two one two tips And we still have that

(11:04):
it's an accident on the Golf Freeway outbound.

Speaker 6 (11:07):
Exit rip to five eighteen.

Speaker 5 (11:09):
I'm Skywike and the generator of supercenter dot Com Traffic Center.

Speaker 4 (11:12):
From r ktr H top tax Defenders twenty four hour
with the Senator Terry Smith is here, Punk Satawney Phil, which,
by the way, he only ranked seventeenth. Oh, I know
amongst weather prognosticators, he's got like a thirty five percent
success rate.

Speaker 6 (11:26):
So with that truck.

Speaker 20 (11:27):
Staten Island, Chuck is right like eighty five.

Speaker 6 (11:30):
Percent of the time. And he said early spring. He did?
He did?

Speaker 21 (11:34):
So did me?

Speaker 6 (11:34):
What did Phil say? Phil said six more weeks of winter.
Phil always says six more.

Speaker 4 (11:40):
Weeks of winner. Yeah, exactly. So there you go. This
sure looks like spring to me.

Speaker 20 (11:45):
It feels like spring too. The real question is what
did BK bob?

Speaker 6 (11:50):
Early spring? Early spring? BK Bob? Okay?

Speaker 22 (11:53):
Good.

Speaker 6 (11:54):
That's good to know, because I would think.

Speaker 20 (11:57):
That BK Bob would have a better handle on Texas
or maybe it just depends. All right, Well, what we
have right now is pretty much what we're going to
have all week long. There's it's warm, it's muggy, We've
got some fog. There is a dense fog advisory that's
in effect for the coastal communities but also including Harris

(12:18):
County until nine am. I'm seeing visibility down around a
quarter of a mile at Hook's Bush, Intercontinental, ellington Field,
Parland as well, So there's some low visibility out there.
The Fogle thin out. We're going to have more clouds
than sunshine today, but it's a dry day. Mid seventies

(12:38):
to around eighty today. Tomorrow a twenty percent chance of showers.
Wednesday a thirty percent chance of rain. Thursday and Friday
are twenty percent chants of rain. So we've got a
lot of clouds, a little bit of rain. We're going
to stay in the seventies for the most part, but
toward the end of the week we'll start to see
some low.

Speaker 4 (12:54):
Eighties right down sixty three at your official severe weather station.
News Radio seven forty A.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
It's Houston's Morning News, brought to you by New South
Windows Solutions. Now back to Jimmy Barrett and the Houston
Morning News team.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
All the info you need to take on the day,
five twenty our time here in Houston's Morning News. So
there was a protest here in Houston over the weekend.
They claimed there were twenty thousand protesters. That may or
may not be accurate. I'm not sure on how many
people turn up. They'd started at Richmond and Dunleavy from
Elementary Park to Herman Park and they were marching and

(13:31):
they were caring signs. They're upset about the quote unquote
mass deportations. There were older people, younger people, there were
kids there. KPRC two was there. They did a report.
They talked to a child who had a very interesting
take on her parents coming to the United States. Evidently

(13:55):
they phrased it her in such a way they sound
just completely normal, do you know, the circum at immigration
and to be here illegally? What what struck me though,
and I'm not quite sure what to make of this,
What really struck me was how many Mexican flags they
were carrying, and how many shirts Mexico shirts. Those types

(14:16):
of things. You'd think if if you were there to
you know, to talk about why you wanted to be
an American, why you wanted to be in the United States,
that you would be there with American flags, not there
with Mexican flags. But hey, that's just meaning that story
coming up first, though, traffic. Think of the same thing.

Speaker 5 (14:34):
Yeah, what if I remember and like I sneak into
you know, France or somewhere, let me fly an American flag,
And yeah, you would want to fly that country's flag
to prove you want to stay there. You would think
you would think, dude, that's enough opining from me. You
know what I want to hear more from you out there.
Let's go right to the golf freeway. One of our
favorite voices Southside Larry.

Speaker 23 (14:55):
Morning time on visibility coming up forty five six snow sticky.
As you said about just entering six ten, hitting with
I'm almost if it did stop summer going on, rod
off the rod after that end of change.

Speaker 5 (15:12):
All right, this is coming up from forty five to
six ten, heading over toward the med Center and toward NRG.
And what that looks to be. Oh, it's a work convoy. Okay,
look at all these fly It's just a work convoy.
Stay the course. It's gonna be gone pretty soon. Visibility
is a thing two ninety.

Speaker 6 (15:29):
Fi sky Mike.

Speaker 24 (15:30):
It's clapping jack from.

Speaker 13 (15:32):
The banks of Cyprus.

Speaker 21 (15:33):
There'd be no fog at this time.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
In the morning.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Oh God, all.

Speaker 5 (15:38):
Right, We're sailing in from the northwest side at just
about full speed ahead Skymichae and the Generator Supercenter dot Com, Tractic.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
Center, Pirates and Cypress huh from r Katie IrH top
tax defenders. Twenty four hour weathers in the morning fog,
then partly kloudy about eighty today, mostly cloudy's the morning fogs,
like chance of a shower seventy seven. Tomorrow Wednesday, mostly
cloudy's like chance of a shower high seventy five. Right now,
temperature is sixty three. At your official severe weather station,

(16:05):
News Radio seven forty k TRH. We're checking out some
of our top stories on this Monday morning. Here's clip.

Speaker 6 (16:10):
Thank you, Jimmy.

Speaker 7 (16:11):
We're brought to you by Moral Mechanical. Two cases this
weekend across Houston. A bad guy shooting at cops. Transportation
Secretary Sean Duffy wants changes to air traffic control after
last week's two plane crashes. And it's a sad anniversary.
Buddy Holly, Richie Allens and the Big Bopper died in
a plane crash on this day back in nineteen fifty nine.

(16:31):
Get the latest news anytime at KTRH dot com. Our
next update is at five thirty.

Speaker 25 (16:37):
Under the orders I signed today, even.

Speaker 16 (16:40):
Here for the very latest, all of this will.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
Change starting today.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
What Youth Radio seven forty KTRH.

Speaker 4 (16:49):
So I'm watching this protest video of this protest and
again all these Mexican flags and Mexican church and I'm thinking, Okay,
you would think again, as Skymike was saying, you think
you'd want to be waving the flag of the country
you were in and wanted to stay in. Here is
the part of the KPRC to report where some of
the protesters let us know why they were out there protesting.

Speaker 26 (17:11):
The protest is organized by Phil Houston, an immigrant led
civil rights organization. It advocates for just laws for immigrant youth,
their families, access to higher education, and other immigrant rights,
but today its supporters say they gathered in response to
the nassy fortations of migrants and immigrants under the Trump administration.
Feel says around twenty thousand people rallied for the peaceful protest.

(17:34):
It started at Irvinhu Park, where protesters marched through Montrose
to Herman Park and back. The rally group shutting down
several intersections on Bridgmond Avenue and at one point the
Southwest Freeway.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
I brought you out here today.

Speaker 26 (17:46):
Why is it important for you to be out here?

Speaker 27 (17:49):
So I came here to protest because my mom was
an Integrat and she crossed over the border and had
to work a.

Speaker 6 (17:54):
Lot, and so was my dad.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
And my dad had to work a lot.

Speaker 27 (17:57):
So come over the border and try to give me,
me and my siblings a better life in America so
I could so.

Speaker 6 (18:05):
Could go to school.

Speaker 28 (18:07):
I came here to support my family that don't have
voice because they're immigrants.

Speaker 24 (18:12):
And they're really, really, really scared of coming out.

Speaker 29 (18:15):
I'm protesting for the people, for the immigrants, and it's
not only my community, not only the.

Speaker 6 (18:19):
Hispanic community, but everybody period.

Speaker 29 (18:21):
That's the how, that's all map been out here for
about three hours, four hours. There's a lot of people
that can't speak or they're afraid to come out here.
You know, that's a lot of a lot of discrimination
around and not only to our community, but every a
lot of other races.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
So we're out here speaking for those people.

Speaker 26 (18:37):
Here to one thing looks like at three o'clock and
what you're saying, now, how are you.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
This area here growing protesters?

Speaker 28 (18:43):
You know it's I think it's I think it's expanded.
I think like we were all in one collective at
one point, and I think we spread out.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
Throughout the city now.

Speaker 28 (18:51):
I think we're in different places, in different stops. Originally
we were marching, and we took the risk of marching
down west timer right, which is the biggest like uh
in Houston is dangerous, is a scary thing, but again,
we needed to do it. I think protests aren't always
about just standing on the side and holding a sign.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
Sometimes disruption needs to be had.

Speaker 4 (19:10):
Like hat all were into the disruption thing. Huh okay,
Well one guy's talk about discrimination. Wow, things are so
bad here as far as discrimination goes. I wouldn't think
you'd want to stay in a place that you're being
discriminated against. But they're out there for immigrant rights. They
left out kind of a keyword though, the illegal. Do
illegal immigrants have rights? What rights do illegal immigrants have

(19:33):
under United States law? Are they protected under US law?
I didn't think that they were. And the little girl,
I know she means well, and this is not meant
to be derogatory towards her, but I mean she makes
it sound really simple. My mom, you know, she crossed
the border and then she works really hard. My dad
he crossed the border and he works really hard.

Speaker 6 (19:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (19:52):
Okay, Well I get the hard work, and I admire
by the way the work ethic of these people. It's
just amazing. I wish we Americans had it a similar
work ethic. Many times we don't. But again the keyboard here,
how did you cross the border? Did you cross the
border with papers? Did you do it legally or not?
Because that makes a big difference. Five twenty seven, It's

(20:13):
time to take a look at your money. Jeffellinger is
here and.

Speaker 6 (20:16):
Jimmy, Good morning.

Speaker 30 (20:17):
It's all about trade and tariffs. As Wall Street prepares
to start the new week and month, than investors are fearful.
President Trump is keeping his campaign promise to levy tariffs
on trading partners he believes give the US a bad deal. Canada, Mexico,
and China will be hit first. Stock market futures are
sharply lower at this early hour. I'm Jeff Bellinger, Bloomberg

Shooting at the police is not a very smart thing
to do. No, it's not. And that's HBD Chief no
idaz As.

Speaker 7 (22:28):
Two teens are hospitalized after getting into a gunfight with cops.
The teens are facing charges elsewhere. We've got another guy
in custody in northwest Harris County. He carjacked three women,
robbed the convenience store, and then got to the hospital
because he decided to shoot at cops. And there was

How many of you believe that racism and misogyny played
a role in Vice President Harris's defeat? Okay, so that's good.

its co coalition congressional districts.

Speaker 6 (26:02):
But this isn't the only state under this ruling.

Speaker 37 (26:04):
It effects Mississippi and Louisiana. I don't know how many
coalition seats they have, but they can redraw any coalition
seats that they have.

Speaker 6 (26:12):
I think that they should.

Speaker 7 (26:14):
RNC Committee man doctor Robin Armstrong says the GOP should
pick up at least five seats in Texas alone in

We must fond and train the best teachers. That starts
with giving our team our teachers a pay raise this session.

Speaker 7 (26:43):

that Texas, a red state, would not have overbearing regulations,

So what exactly does that mean?

It turns out that the Lone Star State actually has

So the PGA was playing Pebble Beach over the weekend.
Did you see that golf tournament? YEA, all good? Lord,
the weather was nice yesterday. The weather I'm trying to
was it Saturday or Friday? I can't remember which day now.
He was just pouring down rain. I mean it just
you couldn't hardly see even on at part three, you
could hardly see the whole, you know, foggy and rain

(28:52):
coming down. I don't think they care what you wear
when the weather's like that, because you're covered in rain
suit and all that kind of stuff. But golf has
a lot of rules. If you're not a golfer, you
might not be aware of just how rural oriented golf is.
And the Professional Golfers Association has always had a lot
of rules on what you can wear. They never wear shorts,

(29:17):
for example. The caddies can wear shorts, the golfers can't
wear shorts. Don't ask me why. I don't know. I
always wore shorts when I played golf. Not that I'm
a professional golfer, mind you. But Jason Day, who's a
pretty big star in the PGA Tour, did something that
hadn't been done before. On Sunday, this is the last

(29:38):
day of Pebble Beach, and he wore I guess the
weather was a little cool. He wore a sweatsuit. I mean,
it's a nice looking sweatsuit, but it's still a sweatsuit.
I don't think that's ever been done. On the PGA tour,
he wore a sweatsuit. So they're calling him the John
Fetterman of golf. No hoodie though there was There was

(30:00):
no hoodie involved, and by the way, fit him a
lot better than the sweatsuits you usually see John Fetterman in.
I get that you want to be comfortable. I get

Speaker 4 (35:29):
Well, this is about drawing a map that can lead
to victory. Five point fifty two is our time. You're
in Houston's boring news. And this is going to sound
a little bit like inside baseball, But I know our
next guest, Well, we'll try to, you know, keep it,
keep it in terms we could all understand. Doctor Robin
armstrongest with us RNC committee man. One of the uh
one of the great things about winning big an election
is that you have an or winning big in court

(35:51):
in this case, means that Texas Republicans could redraw congressional
voting districts this year. That sounds like inside politics, But
it's important stuff, isn't it, doctor Armstrong, Because you can
control future elections when you redraw these congressional maps and
get them just the way you want them.

Speaker 13 (36:11):
Absolutely, it's vitally important that we make use of this.
Democrats have done this for the last five decades. It's
important that Republicans start. In August of twenty twenty four,
we won a big case in the Federal Fitth Circuit court,
and that case actually allows us to revisit congressional districts
state house districts as well. And because they were drawn impermissively,

(36:35):
the court throughout the mechanism that had been used to
basically force people to draw Democrat districts, and now we
can redraw those districts. And it's just staying complying with
the law, is all we're doing. And so what we're
trying to do is now say, hey, look there's been
a different decision. The President has been changed by the

(36:55):
Federal Fitth Circuit. Now we have the opportunity to revisit
these districts legally, and we should do that because the
current districts are drawn unconstitutionally.

Speaker 4 (37:05):
Okay, And it was all about at least the excuse
was protecting minorities, right, That's why they were drawn the
way they were supposedly to begin with, but that's not
really what it was all about.

Speaker 13 (37:15):
Absolutely, the Democrats have taken advantage of that, and what
they have done over the last fifty years is forced
forced our hands with forced Republican legislatures in red states
to draw Democrat districts. That's all that's happening. They have
been racial racially gerrymandering, which is now unconstitutional. It is

(37:36):
certainly constitutional to politically gerrymander. You can draw districts that
way when you win, but it is not permissible to
racially gerrymander. And that's what's been happening. They've been abusing
that power, and now the federal court has called them
out and said you can no longer do that.

Speaker 4 (37:51):
These are called coalition districts. As I understand that we
have five Texas congressional districts twenty two state legislative districts
that are coal districts. How many of those do you
think could flip hands from Democratic Republican as a result
of redrawing these maps?

Speaker 13 (38:07):
You know, I'll tell you it's it's as many as
the legislature chooses. You know, I think that we could
probably have two to three United States congressional seats and
you know, how close the numbers are in the in
the US House right now, we could potentially pick up
you know, ten, but it's hard to say, you know,
it just depends on the We don't want to tie
the hands of the legislature. They're the ones that do that,

(38:28):
and so they're the ones that kind of make those decisions,
and so we'll let them run through that and put
their calculations in. But it's there's a possibility that we
could pick up some seats, and so I think it's
something that the legislature needs to look at. I think
it's the responsibility to look at that this session.

Speaker 4 (38:43):
I think if anybody's ever looked though at these these
districts the way, at least in the past they've been
drawn up, there's some weird looking districts, aren't there. I mean,
the lines are there's rules about how it's supposed to
work or has to work, but the way they get
to that is is a little strained.

Speaker 13 (38:58):
Sometimes Absolutely one of the criteria they've been using, they've
been forced to use, has forced them to create Democrat districts.
That has been deemed a constitutional at this point. And
so I think that our legislature has a responsibility to
at least revisit these districts and we'll see what they
come up with.

Speaker 4 (39:17):
Okay, thank you, sir as always appreciated Doctor Robin Armstrong,

the people, they truly want to pray and want to

Teachers and students should have that opportunity in Texas.

wanted to have a better life and I want to
live in a better place, And thank God Almighty, I

(47:28):
ended up here in Houston, Texas. I am thankful for
that every day. So I'm just trying to save Alex
Bregman the heartache. Why you want to go and sign
with the Detroit Tigers, Alex, you don't what's like playing
baseball in April and Detroit, Michigan. They're not even smart

(47:49):
enough to build a dome stadium for their baseball team.
They play out in the cold. Dude, it's cold in April. Oh,
I know we'll be sweating. Are you know what saw
off here? But it's gonna be cold Detroit. He might
even snow for opening Day. That's not unusual. Well, evidently

(48:09):
the Detroit crowd is working very hard to get their
hands on Alex Bregman. The Astros still have the same
deal on the table for him, six years, one hundred
and fifty six million, But he's got an agent by
the name of Scott Boris. I don't know if you
know anything about Scott Boris, but he's a broal Richard,
if you know what I mean. And a lot of

(48:29):
times he doesn't want his players signing for their old team,
even if they would be better off staying with their
old team. I mean, six years, one hundred and fifty
six million, that's nothing to sneeze that. You know, he's
not gonna he's not going to be looking for handouts
if he stays with the Astros. He's been there this
entire life. Jose Al two bays even willing to go

(48:50):
to the outfield for you, Alex. You think anybody in
Detroit's going.

Speaker 6 (48:54):
To do that for you?

Speaker 4 (48:57):
It seems to be between I guess maybe the Red
Sox are still in a little bit, but it's getting
lad in the game.

Speaker 6 (49:04):
At this point.

Speaker 4 (49:04):
I almost just feel like saying, just signed with somebody.
But there's a love letter to Alex in the Detroit
Free Press that begins, Dear Alex Bregman, I know you
probably are busy trying to figure out if you're going
to re sign with the Houston Astros, dude, not to
be rude, but they already gave up on signing you.
Or go to the Chicago Cubs. Yeah, sure, it's a
beautiful city, but the traffic is awful. Or land in
Boston a free agent signing with the Red Sox. Come on, man,

(49:25):
that's just gliche. Or you could do something bold, something
that could make you truly a difference and add another
layer to your legacy and sign with the Detroit Tigers.
You know, Aj Hinch is the manager there, so that'd
be a bit of a reunion. And who beat the
Astros in the playoffs this last season? Yeah we remember
that too, don't we. Six to eleven time for traffic

(49:47):
and whether together.

Speaker 5 (49:48):
Well, in the seven o'clock hour, maybe Alex Bregman will
be listening and you could play the Edmund Fitzgerald or
something about being up in north and being called there
you go, Yeah, I hear that stuff.

Speaker 4 (49:58):
I just feel like if I could, if I had
way to contact him, I'm just said him with the
weather Fork weather forecast to see who thinks about that?

Speaker 6 (50:04):
Terry intervened there may Yeah, wait, you know weather intervention.

Speaker 5 (50:08):
Yeah, let's get over here on the north Loop six
to ten. They're all, we're getting awfully loopy at the
squeeze down. This is six to ten north westbound. We
call it the squeeze at forty five because there's just
two little lanes getting through and it's got kind of
a wicked curve. You can't go that fast with the
curve now because you're dragging it at Irvington.

Speaker 6 (50:26):
If you can go through town, let's take I ten for.

Speaker 5 (50:28):
Just the moment. Later on, of course, that'll get a
little crazy too with the roadwork westbound. But if you
can't go right through town since your hazardous terry, you'll
have to get on the south Loop sixty ten. Let's
go north Sam. It's Andy from Kingwood Hey.

Speaker 2 (50:42):
Before the Wilson Road east bound beltway.

Speaker 5 (50:45):
There is a small drug with a stear tire blown
out at the duley right.

Speaker 11 (50:49):
Up against the guard roads.

Speaker 2 (50:50):
Right lane kind of swished up a little bit, and
there's right in front of it before the tire.

Speaker 5 (50:55):
All right, watch out for that du lee, even though
he's got extra tires.

Speaker 6 (50:59):
Terry.

Speaker 5 (50:59):
We're over on the side there eastbound. I'm in the
Generator Supercenter dot Com Traffic Center.

Speaker 4 (51:04):
From Mark Kti Range Stop tax Defenders twenty four hour
Weather Center. Today, we're going to be around eighty. What's
it going to be in Detroit today, Jerry just kind
of curious.

Speaker 6 (51:13):
Okay, let's check out Detroit.

Speaker 4 (51:15):
Yeah, I feel like I need warn Alex Gregman about
the weather up there if he's going to forty four.
Forty four, yeah, right now. But what is their high today? No, No,
that's the high today.

Speaker 6 (51:26):
That's their high today.

Speaker 4 (51:27):
So the high their high is going to be I
don't know, thirty five degrees less than ours.

Speaker 13 (51:32):
About that.

Speaker 20 (51:33):
Yeah, and they'll be closer to freezing tomorrow and Wednesday. Okay, yeah,
I hear you laughing. Oh yeah, oh yeah, I remember.

Speaker 6 (51:43):
I'm sure you do.

Speaker 20 (51:45):
Those those kind of memories don't fade easily, know.

Speaker 6 (51:48):
And they're not fond memories either.

Speaker 2 (51:49):
Yes.

Speaker 6 (51:50):
Well, hey, we got a nice stretch of weather around here.

Speaker 20 (51:53):
Our temperatures are are warm, like ten degrees fifteen degrees
above the norm a week long, no rain today, mid
seventies to around eighty. There's a slight chance of a
shower tomorrow, thirty percent chance of rain Wednesday, slight chances
some rain Thursday and Friday.

Speaker 6 (52:10):
Nice quiet week, just a little bit of rain.

Speaker 4 (52:13):
Temperture right now, still sixty three at your official severe
weather station, News Radio seven forty krh.

Speaker 6 (52:20):
Use traffic and weather.

Speaker 3 (52:22):
You're starting your day right with Houston's Morning News, brought
to you by New South Windows Solutions.

Speaker 4 (52:29):
All right, six twenty is our time here on Houston's
Boring News. The Texas Public you and me evidently have
shown that we support the idea of right sizing. In
the case of Texas or any other government, right sizing
government would mean shrinking it, removing regulations, giving people more
of an opportunity to compete, shrinking government to get it

(52:51):
under control. We'll talk to James Quintero, public Policy director
of the Texas Public Policy Foundation about this coming up next.
But first we've got traffic and weather together and STRAIGHTI
skylike and not from the swimming pool like that's at
the North Freeway.

Speaker 6 (53:05):
I'm forty five.

Speaker 5 (53:06):
Let's see if you're coming down from the woodlands. That
water's kind of deep too. We're looking at twenty two

Speaker 3 (54:16):
Guess what. Our iHeartRadio app is free and free. Never
sounded so good, you know. I'd like to shrink regulations.
I'd like to shrink government that. Evidently you would too.
Canon Online did a survey here and found that here
in Texas that's how people feel. They feel our government

(54:37):
is too big, that we have too many rules and
regulations to follow. James Quintero joins this public policy director
of the Texas Public Policy Foundation. You wouldn't mind to
see a little shrinkage when it comes to Texas government, would.

Speaker 31 (54:48):
You just a little bit? Good morning, Jimmy. I hope
this morning's treating you well.

Speaker 6 (54:53):
So far, so good, sir.

Speaker 4 (54:55):
So, did do you think the public no specific what
it is they would like to see changed, what they
would like to see shrink.

Speaker 31 (55:05):
No, not exactly, but before we even get there, you know,
one of the things I noticed yesterday was the fact
that Governor Abbott made mention that this session's most important
task was to set the state up as a guardian
of freedom, and within his State of the State address,
he made mention a couple of different times about slashing

(55:26):
regulations as part of that goal. And so I think
state leadership at least recognizes the need for regulatory reform,
and I'm encouraged that we're going to see some legislation
here soon to move us further in that direction. Now,
does the public really understand all of the red tape

(55:46):
that it labors under? No, I don't think so. And
as evidence of that, one point I usually make is,
you know, when you, as a consumer go to purchase
a house, twenty five percent of the costs that you
incur when you sign those documents is on account of federal, state,
and local government regulations. So most people don't know that

(56:08):
it adds tons of cost to everyday items.

Speaker 4 (56:11):
Kills a lot of trees too, There's a lot of
paperwork involved in that. Let's talk about some of the
specifics here of what they wanted in this Ninety four percent,
according to the survey, want a requirement that all regulations
be written in plain language so they're clear and easy
to understand. What a great idea that would be.

Speaker 31 (56:30):
Yeah, that's right. You know, it turns out that that
most people don't understand the exact nature of the regulations
that they, you know, endure, but they do know that
they want some common sense things applied to government. And so,
you know, folks want to know, you know, what is
it exactly that it's being asked of me?

Speaker 21 (56:48):
You know.

Speaker 31 (56:49):
Let's they also want a sunset mechanism put on these
things so that you know what, they're periodically reviewed and reapproved.
And they also want some outside eyes. They want a
third party efficiency audit of government and all of its
various operations to make sure that things are working in
an efficient manner. And so, you know, folks wants a

(57:10):
very common sense ideas apply to the regulatory landscape, and
hopefully the legislature is getting ready to listen.

Speaker 6 (57:16):
Here's a good one. Now, I get your thoughts on
this one.

Speaker 4 (57:18):
Ninety percent favor requiring that before any new regulation is adopted,
those who have to live under that rule have a
chance to give their input. How how common sense is that?

Speaker 2 (57:29):
Oh?

Speaker 31 (57:30):
I mean, you know, it's it's astounding that we have
bureaucrats who are creating rules and regulations for the rest
of us to live under, and we have either a
minimal opportunity or no opportunity whatsoever to provide input from
the perspective of those who are, you know, affected by

(57:51):
the rules and regulation. So yeah, you know, folks just
want a chance to have their voice heard, to have
their opinion known, and perhaps make a little bit of
policy Chaine, you know, for what they're doing.

Speaker 4 (58:03):
Well, let's give this list to the state legislature, let
them get to work on it, because I think these
all make a lot of sense.

Speaker 31 (58:09):
To me, well, they do make a lot of sense.
I am encouraged by not only the trends that are
happening nationally, but what's happening here in Texas. We seem
to be marching towards a freer and better state with
less regulations and hopefully lower taxes as well. I think
things are. We are living in some transformational times, and

(58:31):
hopefully we're going to see a rollback of the regulatory
state here in Texas soon.

Speaker 6 (58:37):
Let's hope.

Speaker 18 (58:37):
So.

Speaker 4 (58:37):
James Guintaro, thanks as always, Sarah, good to talk to you,

It is now six thirty five on KTRH. After a

Speaker 15 (01:04:34):
That's because Republicans no longer have to manufacture majority minority districts.

Speaker 37 (01:04:38):
There are about five congressional districts that are coalition draw
in Texas. We can actually redraw those lines.

Speaker 15 (01:04:46):
Galveston County Commissioner doctor Robin Armstrong says, the Texas legislature
doesn't even need to wait for a census.

Speaker 37 (01:04:52):
They have the legal grounds to stand on for sure.

Speaker 12 (01:05:24):

Speaker 7 (01:05:25):
Despite being a red state, Texas has its share of
regulatory overreach. According to new polling, Texan's strongly support reform.
James Quintero with the Texas Public Policy Foundation says that
number is a whopping ninety four percent.

Speaker 31 (01:05:39):
The general public in Texas is ready for regulatory reform.
They want common sense rules in place that.

Speaker 24 (01:05:46):
Not only reduce the volume of red tape, but make
the whole system.

Speaker 7 (01:05:49):
More transparent, in other words, more transparency, less bureaucracy. Six

the character wearing red, white and blue doesn't necessarily represent America.

Speaker 18 (01:06:05):
Anthony Mackie, the star in Captain America brief New World,
said this while on a press tour in Italy last week.

Speaker 35 (01:06:11):
For me, Captain America represents a lot of different things,
and I don't think the term, you know, America should
be one of those representations.

Speaker 18 (01:06:20):
Radio host Buck Sexton says the actor could have promoted
the movie a lot better.

Speaker 21 (01:06:25):
I think what he was.

Speaker 38 (01:06:25):
Probably going for here is, oh, I'll sound smart and

very latest, all of this will change starting today.

Speaker 1 (01:07:04):
What youredio seven point kt r H.

Speaker 4 (01:07:09):
It is a local tax and if you are lucky
enough to live in Harris County, you're gonna be paying
more because you got basically a ten percent tax hike
and didn't and you didn't get a chance to vote
for it either. Governor, I mean, Harris County is so
bad that they got singled out. We got single we
got we got singled out during the Governor's State of

(01:07:30):
the State addrest last night, you know, and that and
that is what stood out was the property tax increases.
They found a loophole because state laws are so poorly written,
they found a loophole that allowed them to come in
in taxes. So there's gonna be another bill, evidently it's
going to be introduced that they think it's going to
be Senate Bill four for more property tax relief. Here

(01:07:53):
is Joel Eisenbaum over on our television partner KPRC two,
trying to explain a little bit about what the bill
is about.

Speaker 41 (01:08:01):
It looks like it's going to be called Senate Bill four,
and it's a bigger homestead exemption. That sounds pretty good.
Let's run through this. Say your house is appraised at
three hundred grand right now and since twenty twenty three
across Texas. If this is your primary residence, this little
cute house right here, your tax on a two hundred
thousand dollars valuation. That's because there's a one hundred thousand

(01:08:23):
dollars homestead exemption right now. That alone knocks somewhere around
twelve to fifteen hundred dollars, depending on where you live
from the twenty fifteen exemption level. Try to follow along here,
because back then it was only fifteen grand, so you're
slated to save some money here. Now, the Lieutenant Governor
and other folks like local Senator Paul Bettencourt want to

(01:08:45):
up that homestead exemption again, this time to one hundred
and forty thousand dollars for most people so now your
home is valued at three hundred thousand dollars, it only
be taxed at one hundred and sixty thousand dollars. That
could reduce your property tax burden another several hundred dollars.
In fact, Senator Paul Bettencourt says, it's probably going to

(01:09:06):
be on average somewhere between three and five hundred dollars.
Not everyone saves the same amount because not everyone has
the same tax rate. Even within our own count Your
school district has a lot to do with this, as
you know. But Senate Bill four is slated to be
another taxpayer relief measure, and of course we're going to
be watching it.

Speaker 4 (01:09:25):
Is that enough first state that has such a big
surplus to take the homestead exemption from one hundred thousand
to one hundred forty thousand. What's what's the average home
value in Houston now? Isn't it approaching four hundred thousand dollars.
I'm gonna have to look up and see what the
lays figure is on that, But one hundred to one
hundred and forty thousand, that doesn't sound like it's near

(01:09:46):
enough for the homestead exemption. If you're let's double that,
why don't we double that? In other words, anything over
two hundred thousand dollars, you know you pay on versus
versus one hundred or one hundred and forty. All right, traffic,
and I'll never get that one through Willow.

Speaker 5 (01:10:03):
I think it's time for us to dress like Native
Americans and throw a bunch of tea in the ship channel.

Speaker 6 (01:10:08):
There you go.

Speaker 5 (01:10:10):
Let's hit the canyon now, Jimmy, I've got this beautiful shot.
Thank you, Houston Trendstar. We had a shot of the

a lot of craziness, but we're doing a nice job

Speaker 5 (01:10:31):
Yep, it's right there, right after the road work at
Imperial Valley eastbound and then westbound at Aldan Westfield. That's

after JFK six ' ten north. We're getting awf lee

Speaker 24 (01:11:25):
I think.

Speaker 34 (01:11:25):
So.

Speaker 20 (01:11:26):
What we have is high pressure to the east, and
so we are getting the winds off the Gulf of
Mexico call fronts to the north, but it's not really
making any progress and so we're kind of stuck with
some clouds, a little bit of rain, and the warm temperatures.
There's not a lot of change in our overall pattern
this week. Today's a dry day. Limited sunshine mid seventies

(01:11:49):
to around eighty. Tomorrow, we have a twenty percent chance
of rain. Wednesday at thirty percent chances of some showers,
twenty percent chances some more rain Thursday and Friday. That's it,
hardly any rain at all, and for the most part,
temperatures will range anywhere from the mid seventies to around eighty,
maybe slightly over eighty. But what a nice dosa springtime

unwilling to make. We'll see, because this is mostly going
to go into effect tomorrow. Canada's removing liquor from US
made liquor from their shelves in Ontario, which borders the
United States. So that's an interesting little sideline of what's
going on. So what do you make of this whole

play out, particularly for consumers. Critics say the tariffs will
drive up prices and could ignite a trade war, hinted
at by Canada's Prime minister on Friday.

Speaker 14 (01:16:16):
Tariffs are implemented against Canada, we will respond, we won't

And of course everything is on the table, and Trump
may not be finished.

Speaker 42 (01:16:26):

local control. Local school boards can decide if they want

And as for the Ten Commandments, we're not getting.

CNN recently cited a poll showing a nine point gain
in Trump's net approval rating compared to eight years ago.

Fox Business is Stuart Varney says Democrats are headed in
the opposite direction.

Speaker 14 (01:23:11):
Democrats are in deep trouble. They may be making a
lot of noise bought voters are leaving them behind. The
go to party now is the GOP. We haven't seen
this in years. There's a pattern here. Trump and the
Republicans are gaining popularity. The Democrats are sinking.

Speaker 7 (01:23:25):
Rasmussen's latest numbers have Trump at fifty two percent approval,
and more Americans are not only starting to reject mainstream
left wing media, conservative media out let's are seeing a
massive growth in popularity.

Speaker 15 (01:23:39):
By contrast, more and more left wing outlets are falling
by the wayside.

Speaker 16 (01:23:43):
There's a lot of culling actually going on on the

A lot of them are declaring bankruptcy, going under firing writers.

a settlement to reduce rates by about a dollar a month.
But the bigger question might be this, has center Point
learned anything from what went wrong during Beryl.

Speaker 17 (01:25:05):
We had a high demand just a few weeks ago
with that really cold weather that we had here and
throughout the state of Texas, and center Point reported, you know,
ninety nine point nine percent service.

Speaker 7 (01:25:17):
David Holt with the Consumer Energy Alliance says that the

this morning, the more flexible environment that you had during COVID,
kiss it goodbye. Employers are looking for ways to improve
on their work environment while still caring about their employee schedule.

Speaker 19 (01:25:39):
The same employers that didn't care about their employees five
years ago don't care about their employees today. The good
ones do, the bad ones dope, and that's not going
to change.

Speaker 18 (01:25:49):

imagine some of the waights waiting in line behind that
dude while he tries to figure out his drive through
order and can't get the person at the other end

(01:26:57):
to quite figure out what it is he wants This
is not the expre as you get at the drive
through at Chick fil A, And it turns out there's
a reason for that. Atlanta based Chick fil A has
introduced drone technology as part of their comprehensive approach to
analyzing and improving drive through operations. They have dispatched a
specialist teams to study traffic patterns and operations at more

(01:27:20):
than three thousand of their restaurants, using drones to capture
aerial footage of vehicle flow and service efficiency. Now it
seems to me too, wouldn't chickil A? If Chick fil
A wasn't the first, they had to be among the
few who have associates. For lack of a better drum,
I don't know what they call their employees. I don't
know if they call them associates or something else, but

(01:27:42):
who have their associates out there standing in line during
peak times taking orders from people in the vehicles, which,
of course speeds everything up immensely. The drive through line
at Chick fil A is different than just about anybody else,
and I'm suprise that more fast food places have not

(01:28:03):
copied what they've done. They probably haven't because you have
to have more employees, and that costs more money in
order to be able to make your operations that efficient.
But I found that very interesting. So they go to
the restaurants, they use drones, They keep track of the
traffic flow and what that looks like at peak times,
and they make adjustments accordingly to make sure those lines
are always moving. Seven to ten time for traffic and

(01:28:26):
weather together. As we check out the drive again with Sabine,
all right, we have a.

Speaker 5 (01:28:29):

It's a left lane and that big forty eight minute

from past the belt Way Terry Pass, the belt Way outbound,
and then you've got the Northwote sixthen we had that
problem at Lockwood that was westbound.

Speaker 6 (01:28:59):
That one's clear.

Speaker 5 (01:29:00):
I've still got some breaks now from Acarty on six

Speaker 6 (01:29:03):
So if you're hazardous.

Speaker 5 (01:29:04):
Let's take the south Loop instead north Sand there's a

So if you enjoy the weather today, you're probably going

more in the way of clouds than sunshine. In fact,
we've got obviously some fog out there that has been
slowing down things in.

a bill, or at least I think there's a couple
of bills actually in front of the Texas State legislature
that would change that State Representative David Speller had sponsored
I think two of these bills. Let me make sure
I got the right bills here, too, Representative is one

(01:33:17):
of them fourteen twenty five. House Bill fourteen twenty five.

Speaker 21 (01:33:20):
Yes, fourteen twenty five is the one that provides for
prayer in schools. And then the also carrying HB twenty
one sixteen, which provides for the team commandments in the classroom.

Speaker 4 (01:33:32):
Okay, it should be pointed out. Here's what House Bill
fourteen twenty five would do. It would allow school districts
and charter schools to offer a period for prayer and
reading religious texts. Would not require students or employees to participate,
would require students to bring a consent form I assume
that is if they want to participate, and would allow

(01:33:52):
parents to revoke a students consent. So you put all
the safeguards in there, right, This is this not mandatory
by any stretch of imagination. This is completely a voluntary program. Exactly,
not at all.

Speaker 21 (01:34:08):
No one should have any problem with HB fourteen twenty
five because number one from a local school district standpoint.
And I know because I've been on a local school
district board of trustees for many years before I got
the legislature, and we always talk about hey, local control,
local control. Well, this is purely local control. The board

(01:34:28):
would have a vote a resolution to either adopt or
not adopt a resolution to provide this opportunity for students
and faculty, by the way, and if so, then they
would implement that. But the only way that anyone participates
is if they sign a consent for them. And there's
some safeguards that those students while this is going on

(01:34:49):
that they're not in the same area within hearing distance
of that. So anyone that doesn't opt in has not
affected anyone other than just the benefit that the received
from that each day would not otherwise be affected. As
for as anything that relates to.

Speaker 4 (01:35:07):
The classroom, well, you said a moment ago, and you're right,
by the way, nobody should object, but somebody always does, unfortunately,
So I guess the question. I'm sure you've I'm sure
you've heard from some other members of the state legislature
who object to your bill. What are their objections? What
are they concerned about?

Speaker 21 (01:35:24):
I don't know, I really haven't heard from other members yet.
It's relative a new bill and we're just getting started
down here, and so we haven't taken up in these
bills and committee are in the House, our committees have
not yet been formed. It's hard to together and organize
and put one hundred and fifty people on multiple committees
and get that put together. I expect that that may

(01:35:45):
be done before the end of the week, especially except
the emergency atoms the governor have laid out yesterday. So
I haven't heard from that many other members other than
other Republican members that have been very, very supportive more
of the controversy comm the UH on the King Commandmentsville.
But but nonetheless, yes, you're right, there will be there

(01:36:06):
will be objections that we're used to that.

Speaker 24 (01:36:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:36:09):
Problem.

Speaker 4 (01:36:09):
Yeah, the one that always makes the only one that
ever makes me angry. You're welcome to object to anything
you want to, But the one that always makes me
angry is separation of church and state. Is if somehow
the United States Congress was trying to keep people from
praying they weren't in a public building. That's not what
the separation of churches state was all about. It merely
provided that there would not be a state sponsored specific religion, correct.

Speaker 21 (01:36:34):
And I've I've read a number of books on that topic,
including those by Dave Barton and some others. Uh, you know,
they just point out the obvious that that that's not
in the constitution, that's that was written in a case,
uh many many years ago, and we've somehow blasted on
to that and think that that's along the land.

Speaker 2 (01:36:53):
It's not.

Speaker 4 (01:36:54):
No, You're right, Well, best luck with the bill, sir,
Well check in again. Appreciate your time. State Representative David
Spiller seven twenty seven. Time to take a look at
your money. Jeff Bellinger's here, and.

Speaker 30 (01:37:04):
Jimmy, some corporate leaders are likely thanking themselves for their foresight.
A third of the executives pulled for a New Boston
consulting survey said they launch contingency plans for tariffs after
the presidential election. And of course, as we're hearing today,
tariffs are on the way and investors are worried. The
doll futures down five hundred and seventy nine points ahead

Seven thirty now Here in Houston's Morning News, I'm Jimmy Bairtt.
Among our top stories as our no longer afraid to
shoot at the cops, the betagona to some of the
Trump border policies, and coming up at seven thirty eight,
why cash but tel scares the left details in the
minutes ahead. You're in Houston's Morning News. First, we're checking

(01:38:10):
out that morning drive again with Skymye.

Speaker 5 (01:38:12):
All right, hardhats, you're still dealing with that it outbound
not inbound wreck in front of the truck stops at
Magnolia left lane. We are backed up from Daldell. We're
losing forty eight minutes going that way. Southwest Freeway inbound
Fountain View. That's a stall right there in the right lane.
Watch out from Hillcroft and you've got Katie Freeway breaks
now at part ten two ninety something scootched up right

(01:38:34):

(01:39:00):
It's time now for the news. Here's Cliff Saunders.

Speaker 6 (01:39:03):
Thank you, Jimmy.

Speaker 7 (01:39:04):
It is seven thirty two on KTRH. Our top story
this morning.

Speaker 6 (01:39:07):
Shooting at the police is not a very smart.

Speaker 7 (01:39:09):
Thing to do, and that's HPD chief no ideas as
two teens were hospitalized after getting into a gunfight with cops.
The teens are facing charges. Elsewhere, a man is in
custody in northwest Harris County after carjacking three women, then
robbing a convenience store, and then getting into a shootout
with cops. No officers were injured, and an eighty three

(01:39:31):
year old man is in custody after opening fire at
a band competition at Pasadena Memoria High School injuring one person.
A group of good Samaritans, including an off duty cop,
took that shooter down. It is now seven thirty two.
Ice operations continued nationwide over the weekend, and bright Bark
reports that Texas National Guard soldiers now have the authority

(01:39:55):
to make immigration arrests within the state.

Speaker 32 (01:39:57):
They're very happy that there's argated enforcement going on to
get these individuals off the streets.

Speaker 7 (01:40:04):
Art del Cueto with the National Border Patrol Council on Fox.
Despite that, there's a new CNN report saving Or claiming
that resistance to Trump's border policies still lingers in the Pentagon.

Speaker 33 (01:40:17):
Unnamed sources claim many disagreed with sending troops to the border,
but it doesn't really matter.

Speaker 34 (01:40:22):
The American people want immigration to be sported out, so
anyone in the Pentagon who might be running interference that
needs to get with the program.

Speaker 33 (01:40:31):
Beth Burlier of the Federalists says laws limit use of
military force on our own soil, which does cause a hiccup,
but complain as they may, it's not stopping Trump.

Speaker 34 (01:40:40):
Then the military is still complying with Trump's executives actions.

Speaker 33 (01:40:44):
She says, though troops cannot arrest border crossers, but they
can serve as an extra eye and a deterrent. Andre Perard,
News Radio seven forty e KTRH.

Speaker 6 (01:40:54):
Thank you, Andre.

Speaker 7 (01:40:54):
The Democrat Party has not learned from their loss in November,
and the roof is in what we saw during the
elections this weekend to subnect to select rather a new
party leader.

Speaker 35 (01:41:06):
How many of you believe that racism and misogyny played
a role in Vice President Harris's defeat.

Speaker 6 (01:41:16):
Okay, so that's good you all passed.

Speaker 31 (01:41:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:41:22):
That was a forum hosted by MSNBC's Jonathan cape Hart.
The new party chair Ken Martin. He wanted Trump trying
for treason and once called him a trader. It's now
seven thirty four. The President walt back off of tariff's
on Canada and Mexico. He placed a ten person tariff
on China this weekend. Today he's going to speak to

(01:41:42):
Canadian and Mexican officials. The markets are not reacting well
at all to what the President did. Dow futures are
off by nearly six hundred points this morning. The Chinese
app Deep Seek, which disrupted the industry last week, is
now being called a mess of security risk.

Speaker 36 (01:42:01):
I hate to use the puppet metaphor, but the hand
of the CCP is like in the whole dang puppet
and it's manipulating every turn.

Speaker 6 (01:42:08):
Podcaster Eric Eggers.

Speaker 7 (01:42:09):
There now, we told you last week that deep Seek
would not answer questions about either Taiwan or the nineteen
eighty nine Tieneman Square riots. Meantime, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahoo will become the first foreign leader to visit President
Trump in his new term. He'll be at the White
House tomorrow. Closer to home, and thanks to a ruling

(01:42:31):
from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, Texas can now
redraw some of its quote coalition districts. But Texas isn't
the only state under this ruling.

Speaker 37 (01:42:40):
It effects Mississippi and Louisiana. I don't know how many
coalition seats they have, but they can redraw any coalition
seats that they have.

Speaker 6 (01:42:48):
I think that they should.

Speaker 7 (01:42:49):
Rn C Committee man doctor Robin Armstrong says the GOP
could pick up five seats in this state alone during
the twenty twenty six midterms. In Austin, Governor Greg Gabbott
giving his State of the State speech last night, laying
out his priorities for the legislative session.

Speaker 8 (01:43:06):
We must fund and train the best teachers. That starts
with giving our tea, our teachers a pay raise this session.

Speaker 7 (01:43:18):
But also calling for school choice and property tax reform.
Now you would think that Texas, a red state, wouldn't
have overbearing regulations. That's not necessarily true, and a new
poll shows Texas want that changed.

Speaker 6 (01:43:33):
So what exactly does that mean?

Speaker 24 (01:43:35):
In Washington, DC? We have a swamp. Here in the
Lone Star State, we have a bit of our own
swamp too.

Speaker 10 (01:43:42):
That's James Quintero, policy director with the Texas Public Policy Foundation.

Speaker 24 (01:43:48):
It turns out that the Lone Star State actually has
a rather robust.

Speaker 31 (01:43:52):
Administrative state in place that is really taking some of
the lester off of the Texas miracle.

Speaker 10 (01:43:59):
In other words, you need to drain the Texas swamp.
Jeff Biggs, News Radio seven kt Race.

Speaker 6 (01:44:06):
Seven thirty seven.

Speaker 7 (01:44:07):
The actor playing Captain America, Anthony Mackie, Well, he found
himself in some hot water recently for saying that Captain
America doesn't necessarily represent America.

Speaker 38 (01:44:18):
The international ticket sales matters. So he might have been
trying to say that these are universal values that Captain
America represents of you know, bravery.

Speaker 6 (01:44:28):
Or something like that.

Speaker 7 (01:44:29):
But the way he said it sounded really dumb. KTRH
is buck Sexton there now. Mackie has since clarified his comments,
and maybe this is why the movie comes out February fourteenth.
And finally, the Rockets try to snap a two game
slide when they visit the Knicks in New York tonight.

Speaker 6 (01:44:54):
I live in Sugarland.

Speaker 3 (01:44:55):
Be prepared for wild Houston weather next on the ten

Speaker 4 (01:45:03):
Maybe they should hire understand we might need some new agents.
Seven thirty eight is our time here in Houston's morning news.
All right, Cash Bettel. Will he get confirmed this week?
Hopefully so there won't be I don't think any Democrats
voting for him. Hopefully all the Republicans are in line here.
Senator Josh Hawley says, Listen, I don't expect any Democrats support.

(01:45:24):
They're scared to death of this guy.

Speaker 43 (01:45:26):
What we've gotten for the last four years is nothing
but stonewalling. It's nothing but lies, frankly from the FBI.
The FBI director when he's come before Congress and the
world deserves to know. The American people deserve to know
exactly what the FBI's role was in January sixth. They
also deserve to know what the FBI has been doing
with its time. While they've been pursuing January sixth defendants.

(01:45:47):
They haven't been putting drug kingpins behind bars. They haven't
been going after child traffickers, they haven't been going after
the drug cartels.

Speaker 6 (01:45:55):
It's time to get the FBI focused.

Speaker 43 (01:45:56):
Jesse on you know, I don't know criminals again and
putting violent criminals behind bars.

Speaker 6 (01:46:02):
I think Cash will do that.

Speaker 7 (01:46:03):
The Democrats look terrified, not really equipped to handle a
guy like Cash.

Speaker 6 (01:46:07):
Are we going to learn things about Butler?

Speaker 3 (01:46:09):
Are we going to learn things about the Palm Beach attempt?

Speaker 6 (01:46:12):
What else are we going to find out here?

Speaker 43 (01:46:14):
You know something that he told me, Jesse. He pledged
to me that he would open the books on what
you just said. He would open the books on the
assassination attempts. He would open the books on the FBI's
lying to the FISA court, for example, when they went
and lied to get wire tabs on the President Trump
the first time around, he would open the books on
all of their corruptions. So you better believe the Democrats
are worried because they've been cheering this on for the

(01:46:36):
last four years. They talk about enemies lists and political persecution.
The FBI has been their personal play thing, at least
FBI headquarters has been for the last four years, and
they're scared to death that Bettel will end it. They're
not worried that he will actually persecute political opponents. They're
worried he's going to stop the FBI doing that because
that's what they've been doing the last four years.

Speaker 21 (01:46:55):
There you go.

Speaker 4 (01:46:58):
I think he's one hundred percent make a one hundred
fifty correct about all that? Seven forty times four traffic
and weather together starring skyline.

Speaker 5 (01:47:06):
All right, we're going to the hard work and east
side shortly hang on hard hats. But first let's take
you downtown and then uptown downtown. I've got a stall
where has been from a Taska seta. I bet he'll
be able to see this. This is your east text
right where it hits iten the ramp that takes you
over by Saint Arnold.

Speaker 6 (01:47:21):
I got a stall reported right there. I believe it.

Speaker 5 (01:47:23):
I can see the scunch your east text elevated. All
breaks now down into the canyon, losing twenty one minutes
on the southbound on the west Loop. You're going down
to uptown, which makes perfect sense. We're slow from two
ninety down to Woodway up to Uptown. Here slow from
right at I sixty nine to ninety. It's shanna, what's up?

Speaker 4 (01:47:41):
I might headed in on two ninety from the Cypres area.

Speaker 5 (01:47:45):
We have watch the flash little lights at Jones Road.
Honkey right, Lan, All right, David, is that your first
banana sticker that's inbound? That's really looks closer to Eldridge
to me. They're about to clear it, so stay the
course on two ninety and outbound. I've got this accident
on the East Freeway. It's been there a while. In
front of the truck stops at Magnolia that is eastbound

(01:48:06):
blocks a right lane on the East Freeway. We're backed
up from just after the belt wave.

Speaker 6 (01:48:11):
Not saying that.

Speaker 5 (01:48:12):
In front of Terry outbound. That is a forty five
minute delay. And by the way, Terry, some people are
just getting up. This is the day the music died,
so you can sing that song if you want. I'm
in the Generator Supercenter dot Com traffic Center.

Speaker 6 (01:48:24):
She can't sing. There's no rain. Oh oh, just thing.
She just sings something. I'm going to turn on my shower. Yeah,
she sings in the showers.

Speaker 24 (01:48:31):
That's right.

Speaker 20 (01:48:32):
And that's probably the only people who should hear me
is whoever's in my house.

Speaker 4 (01:48:36):
From r ktr H Generator super Center in twenty four
hour weather center, Terry is here. Obviously, no chance with
a shower today, I don't think no.

Speaker 20 (01:48:43):
I think today's going to be dry. But we're getting
this steady flow of moisture from the south, so the
committee will persist and occasionally we'll get a little bit
of rain. But the key emphasis really is on just
a little bit of rain today though a dry day
and a mix of sun and clouds, and the temperatures
are warm. I mean, this is ten to fifteen degrees

(01:49:03):
warmer than we would normally expect in February mid seventies
to around eighty today mid seventies to around eighty really
most of the week. I don't see a big change
in that there's a twenty percent chance of a shower
tomorrow and a thirty percent chance of rain Wednesday, twenty
percent chance of a shower Thursday and Friday, So you
kind of get the idea. There's not a lot of change,

(01:49:25):
a little bit of rain, plenty of warm weather, nice weather.

Speaker 6 (01:49:28):
If you're getting outside.

Speaker 4 (01:49:29):

swamp in Texas. There's a swamp in every state in
the country, and law enforcement works for that swamp.

Speaker 4 (01:50:20):
My okay, all right? And then sometimes we just get
you know, personal messages.

Speaker 16 (01:50:29):

Bad this morning? Is he heading over to forty five
and we're good. North freeways not that bad this morning either.
It's not as Monday light. Unusual slowdowns around the Sheppard
Curve southbound and then over our shoulder. I'm seeing the
north sam westbound at all Dean Westfield, your scootstuff that roadwork,
and then eastbound at Imperial Valley. Let's see hazardous mixed

(01:51:26):
from Cleveland it he's going all the way to San
Antonio today. Your outbound is not bad. Inbound you hit
some brakes around for I road and of course we
have the IT east problem. Hardhats. That's a wreck outbound
at Magnolia right in front of the truck stops. Take
a left, Liane, and we're backed up from Yes, Cliff,

On Radio seven point KTRH.

Speaker 4 (01:53:03):
Yeah, that's kind of what the governor was doing with
the state of the state risk just kind of dropping
him to see what condition our condition is in. Here's
a report from CBS Texas.

Speaker 8 (01:53:12):
Clearly God has blessed Texas and the state of our
state has never been better before.

Speaker 44 (01:53:20):
Eleven hundred state and business leaders and supporters of the
Arnold Oil Company in Austin. Governor Rabbit announced seven of
his top priorities, also called emergency items for this legislative session.
He called for ten billion dollars in relief on school
property taxes on top of the billions approved two years ago,
and he wants state lawmakers to make it more difficult

(01:53:41):
for counties and cities to raise property taxes.

Speaker 8 (01:53:45):
No taxing entity should be able to raise your property
taxes without.

Speaker 6 (01:53:50):
A two thirds approval of voters. No approval, no new taxes.

Speaker 44 (01:53:57):
The governor also choked up when he called the death
penalty for those convicted of murdering a child.

Speaker 6 (01:54:04):
Like twelve year old joshin Hungery. She was brutally right
and murdered by two illegal immigrants.

Speaker 44 (01:54:19):
But three of his seven top priorities focused on education,
including giving teachers a pay raise and boosting career training programs.

Speaker 6 (01:54:26):
For high school students.

Speaker 44 (01:54:28):
The governor is also pushing for school choice by providing
tax dollars to students to attend private school, a priority
of his last session that was killed in the Texas House.

Speaker 1 (01:54:39):
We're going to continue to fully fund our schools.

Speaker 8 (01:54:42):
As well as provide teachers with the pay raise. We
can do that while also giving parents the choice they deserve.

Speaker 1 (01:54:52):
It's not the people of Texas, it's a democratic state.

Speaker 44 (01:54:54):
Representative James Tallerico of Aoston sharply criticized the governor's school
choice program.

Speaker 1 (01:55:00):
Voucher stams are not school choice.

Speaker 45 (01:55:01):
It's the school's choice because private schools can deny admission
to any kid for any reason they want. So how
is it choice when the private school has all the
power in the equation, and.

Speaker 44 (01:55:12):
School choice is expected to prompt the biggest fight this
legislative session. Governor Rabbit has Setti believes he's got the
votes to pass it in the Texas House this year.

Speaker 6 (01:55:21):
The Texas Senate is set to.

Speaker 4 (01:55:22):
Pass a bill later this week, and we will shall
soon see on the whole school choice thing.

Speaker 6 (01:55:27):
Huh.

Speaker 4 (01:55:28):
All right, listen, y'all, have a great day. Thank you

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
