(00:00):
Scott vordiez. If Edmonton does thattonight after being down three to ozho to
Florida, that would be historic.Well, I should say, no team
has done it since. As Imentioned, in nineteen forty two, the
Toronto Maple Leafs came back and beatDetroit after being down three to zero.
(00:23):
That's the only time any team hasrebounded from a three to zero finals deficit
to win a championship in any ofthose three major sports. So it's a
big historic day. And then Lucystarted to say, well, there's history
College World Series, and I said, shut up, woman, I gotta
get to a break. That's exactlyhow it went, all based on my
(00:47):
behavior last night with my wife andson. Don't be surprised if I just
start yelling, oh I am,I am sheepish today. I kind of
went off last night. Yeah, kind of went off. Well, my
wife and my fourteen year old son. I wasn't gonna ask. Oh no,
(01:07):
my wife and my fourteen year oldson have been butting heads a lot
lately, and I end up beingthe person like I don't even see what
happened. And then it's it's like, well, you talk to your son.
It's like well what happened, Well, three hours ago he did,
and I got to like, what'sgoing on? And I think I have
(01:32):
things resolved. I go in therewith my father's knows best attitude and like,
hey, hey, son, yougotta respect your mom. You got
a great mom, wonderful and whenyou when you talk like that, with
that tone of face, you know, it makes her think that you don't
love her respect her. And asI know, she have told you several
(01:53):
times, it's just a little bitthat's expected of you around here. So
let's all pick do our best here. It's in your best interest to do
all these things you're being asked todo. It's not much, all right,
okay Dad? And then he didn'tdo them, and so I'd have
(02:15):
to once again come in there, all father knows best, have a seat,
son. So last night I trieda different tact and I went the
wrong way. I just started yellingat both of them and I just said,
both of you, you sit down, so let me tell you my
idea behind it. It wasn't likeI flew off like completely nuts. I
(02:38):
was like, all right, we'regoing to try and employ a tactic that
I've not used a lot in myfatherly behavior. But I did, and
I haven't had to do it since. When my daughter and my son were
fighting. They were just like Itell you, I Dan, you know
this a few years ago, andI yelled at both of them and said,
(03:00):
both of you sit down here, stay in this room, and don't
come out until you figure this out. You're gonna have to figure it out.
I can't tell you, hey,get along. You're gonna have to
figure this out. You guys gottabe on the same team. And I'm
I'm hollering I'm mad, or atleast that's that's the dramatic interpretation. So
(03:22):
it worked pretty well then. Reallyhaven't had to do any like anything like
that with them. So I thought, I'm gonna dip back into the parental
well and I'm gonna do that withmy wife and son. And I yelled
at both of them, like, you guys gotta figure this out. I'm
tired of this. And it turnsout treating your wife like your teenage daughter
(03:46):
wrong road, you think, Yeah, And you know it was as I
got into it and I started doingthe point and like, you guys,
sit down here, and you gottafigure this out. You know. The
idea being is that they sit downthe room and now they're partners against me.
You're like, he's crazy. Wegotta we gotta bind together. Otherwise
(04:08):
we have to deal with his crazybuns. You know the language, he's
nuts. If we don't have eachother to battle against that, you know,
rage monster over there of a fatheror husband, then we've got nothing.
And as it turns out, puttingmy wife into that classification was the
(04:30):
wrong move. Oh don't worry.I knew as I was doing it,
and in case I was not clearwhether I knew that or not. I
was told later in no uncertain termsthat that was not appreciated. But now
you're asking yourself, did it work? Yeah, yes it did. They
(04:54):
sat down there and I said, neither of you was allowed to come upstairs
until you figure this out, andthey that worked with her. It has
a little duct tape on it.Oh, I am not in a good
place right now in my relationship withmy wife, I can imagine, but
(05:15):
that would not have worked with me. But the two of them are getting
along a lot better, which isall I wanted, Which is all I
wanted. So you know, thiswhole talk we had in the in the
last hour about like having to findanother place to sleep because your house is
flooded. It was in the backof my mind, going, you need
to find another place to say. There was a moment last night I was
(05:39):
like, I might need to geta hotel. I might have to go
sleep on the couch in my office. This is getting uncomfortable. You better
get out your loan papers well fora hotel at this time. The nice
thing in our marriage is hello, what hello, Lucy? Okay? Now
(06:01):
I can't, Lucy, there's somethingwrong with my you know, yeah,
okay. The only you know, one of the things that you know when
you get married, they're like,oh, here's a little marital advice for
you. And then you know alot of people say like, never go
to bed angry. That's actually goodadvice. I can't. Well, I
(06:23):
can't go to bed angry. Notbecause I can't, because I've proven before
that I absolutely can't. But itturns out that only makes my wife more
angry. That I can just belike, yeah, so's your face,
and then I just fall right asleep, but it drives her insane, and
so I can't because I know thatthat like it's gonna be worse in the
(06:45):
morning, so I don't and soso we had a rather terse hug and
uh and we'll see how this goes. I am absolutely hoping that she's listening
now and that hopefully my my recognitionof my horrible behavior, which by the
(07:06):
way, totally worked. Uh Solet me ask you some is some is
helping me in some way? ButI don't know. Well, that's kind
of an answer to my question. You're going to Are you going to go
home tonight expecting that all is forgiven, that your little your little experiment worked
out just mine. I don't know. I have I have a backup plan.
(07:31):
Uh in case, why are youtexting her? Are you texting my
wife right now? No? Iwould never do that. Seriously, Is
she texting you and not because she'snot texting me? Is she not talking
to me? I should call herright now? Do you think that would
(07:53):
be it would be great radio?I don't maybe maybe not right this minute.
Yeah, you know what way toYeah? You know what the really
fun part is here tomorrow afternoon.I'm on vacation. I was gonna be
on vacation all week, but otherthings came up and so I didn't end
up happening. So we're gonna beI'm on vacation Wednesday through Friday from this
(08:18):
radio show, thanks to Glenn backfor filling in. And so we're on
vacation tomorrow afternoon and in a carand hotel rooms together for the through the
weekend. So it to answer yourquestion, like, do you think all
this is gonna be better here?I hope. So, because we're like,
(08:39):
I can't there's no place for meto go. I can write you
up a list of things that youcan purchase on your way home that may
help a little. It's a biglist, sounds like you need it.
Diamond encrusted flowers, maybe chocolate, diamond encrusted flowers. M Maybe I have
(09:05):
some ideas. Maybe I'll just gogolf this evening. That's not bad idea.
Yeah, that's not a good idea, and go drinking with the boys.
Yeah, not a part. No. I would not suggest that College
World series. You were It's like, how did we? Oh? Yeah,
(09:30):
I said, uh, Lucy saidsomething else with the College World Series,
and I said, hush off, woman, I have had enough.
You you figure this out. Youand the College World Series sit down there
and don't come up upstairs. Untilyou figure this out. But he figured
it out. That's right, CollegeWorld Series did No, you were right,
you did, you figured it out. Well, here's what what were
(09:50):
you gonna say? There is oneof the teams that are in the championship
final two, Game one, whateverit is. In case you just let's
say you're in town here from Tennessee, and you're like, oh, this
is going to be insightful sports conversationhere on this radio station I'm listening to,
which I thought he was going toget into. Then he started talking
(10:13):
about marriorable problems. I don't knowof this guy. I don't know how
he keeps his job or his marriage. And so well, thankfully Lucy's going
to come in here and say somereally insightful things. And then she starts
saying, and there's a game withthe two and the one in the game.
So what now? Well, Iknow that they are playing the big
game tonight, the one that willdetermine who's the overall winner of the the
(10:39):
sport. But one of them, one of them came into the tournament of
like the number one. They everybodythought that they should win the top seed.
Yeah, that would be Tennessee. That they do every year, but
the number one team that comes inthat way hasn't been the number one team
(11:03):
like twenty thirty years since nineteen ninetynine. You're what you're trying to say
is that we get eight teams inhere in Omaha, and they have various
seeds determined who plays who. Youget the number one overall seed, pardon
me, number one overall seed, which hasn't gone on to win the College
World Series since Miami did it innineteen ninety nine. That's the last time
(11:26):
this has happened. So somebody isgoing to do it. It's the they
call it the number one seed curse. Well, I think your friends from
College Station Texas would suggest that perhapsthey're not going to do it. It
only gets done if Tennessee wins.It beats Texas A and m today.
(11:46):
If Tennessee wins, they'll be thefirst number one seed to finish the season
number one since Miami in nineteen ninetynine, twenty five years ago. But
you know what happens if Tennessee wins. Are going to party like it's nineteen
ninety nine. Oh shut up,you know you want to laugh to night.
(12:09):
I'm going up party like it's ninetyYou know the song? Do you
not never heard that? You knowthe song? Never heard that song?
Is that a song? You reallydon't? No? No, I'm sad,
Yes, me who is constantly throwingout eighties music references saying it has
somehow never heard nineteen ninety nine byPrince Come on, but tell me,
(12:33):
am I wrong? If they win? Yeah, that was actually a good
dad a total dad joke, andwhich means I want to should have said
it. But you're not a greatdad right now, so it's okay.
Oh my daughter was not a greathub right. No, no, no
either both. My daughter wasn't home, so she came home, like how's
(12:56):
everyone doing? And like everyone's allmad, I'm asleep, Like what what
happened here? Like at the endof the movie Poltergeist, when the older
sister comes home and she's looking ather house is getting sucked into a black
hole of poulter Geist obliving and she'sjust looking at it, going what's happening?
(13:18):
Like that was my daughter last night? Like I left and everything was
fine, and I came back andit's just nuts. As close as those
two are your kids. If Ithink that I would set up some kind
of a communication between them, theyshould do this that if it. If
it's a night like that and oneof them is coming home, they should
(13:39):
bring ice cream because then everybody willbe happy again. My wife don't come
home without ice cream. That's it. My wife is rather lactose intolerant.
Don't come home without candy if Ibring her ice cream. Just like you,
seriously, don't even pay any attentionto me, do you like?
Is it the wrong flavor? It'sthe wrong ice cream. So being here
(14:03):
in Omaha is a great place tobe at College World Series time. If
you're wealthy, If well, let'skind of let's first look at you're a
college baseball fan, or you justwant to be down there for the experience
of the College World Series. Youalready live in the Olmaha area, and
(14:24):
so you're like, well, I'lljust leave my house and I'll pick up
a ticket and I'll go down thereand I'll watch a ball game, go
watch a session here. I don'teven know who's playing. I just go
down there. We already live here. We don't have to find like who's
driving Omaha. And then you haveto have the thing like, well,
if our team keeps winning, wehave to stay in Omaha. I want
(14:46):
to see I'm not going to goup to Omaha and like not stay there
and watch my team win the CollegeWorld Series. But then it's like super
hit or miss. When are theyplaying well? It depends on how they
do. It's double elimination tournaments,so they could be two and done.
It could be you know, basedout over a week, and then there's
a they make it to the championshipseries. There's a ridiculous couple of days
(15:09):
time between they make it to theseries and they start playing the series and
then it maybe it's two days, maybe it's three, and so you have
to you have to book hotel roomsbased on having no idea how long you're
gonna be here. And if youjust decide to be here for the entire
(15:30):
time, there's your summer vacation. It's two weeks in Omaha, which I'm
not suggesting, if I mean, that's up to you. If you're a
huge fan of your college baseball teamand you're willing to put in the time,
and thankfully so many different fans are, that's great. And there are
other people who actually get a prettygood job saving on hotel rooms because let's
(15:54):
say you're a fan of the FloridaGators, and you're like, I know
they're gonna make it to the ChampionshipSeries again. I'm miss going to book
through Monday night and I'll go backon Tuesday after they win. That probably
went on Sunday, but whatever, you know, I'll just stay here and
I'll cancel the last day if Ihave to. Well, then Florida gets
bounced, and so suddenly here comeall these hotel rooms available, and you
(16:15):
can jump in there and snipe theserooms that just like, well we just
had a room open up, andyou can usually get those at a pretty
good price. But then you don'tknow how long you're going to be here,
and the whole thing is a weekand a half. That's a long
time. That's a lot of money. And then you go buy a ticket,
(16:36):
and if you're trying to get aticket for the Championship games, ticketmasters
said, well, some tickets areabout three hundred and fifty. Some of
them are about two thousand dollars.A lot of people paid about, you
know, four five hundred dollars fora ticket, and that doesn't include fees.
(16:59):
Ticketmaster fees are a million dollars. So you're like, well, I
came all the way up here.My team's playing I want to go right
and you look in the stands hereand there's Peyton Manning over here. There's
I don't know what the heck itwas Dave Matthews here in town for this
(17:22):
or is that just a meme becausesome guy was wearing Dave Matthew's shirt and
then there was a picture of DaveMatthews not far from him. I don't
know. That might have been ClayTravis was here. Did you guys get
together at all? No, wethought he was coming in to hang out
with us here this morning and doa show from kfab Omaha. But he
went back last night. Oh histeam lost. As we see, you
(17:48):
were doing so well as we alreadyestablished. I know a championship. Remember
that championship. Remember that is besttwo out of three, played two games,
and there's a game tonight, sothey're both still in it with a
chance to win. I'm a littlesurprised that Clay didn't hang out, but
apparently he wanted to go hang outwith Buck more than with Scott. So
(18:15):
no, Clay went back home. But it's it's pricey to come up here
to follow your team. I mean, people say like, wow, look
at these super Bowl tickets. Yourfavorite team wins the super Bowl, you
gotta go to that city. Yougotta get a hotel room, you gotta
(18:36):
buy a super Bowl ticket, Andpeople go, wow, you spend like
three thousand dollars on all this stuff. Well, if you come to Omaha,
stay in Omaha for a week anda half, buy tickets to all
these different sessions, food, drinkthe time that you're here. You gotta
have someone bail you out of jailafter you get in a fight, after
you have too many jello shots downat that bar. Oh adds up,
(19:00):
you can easily go three thousand dollarsfor one person in the time of the
College World Series if you're a diehard, So suddenly doing all that and
one shot doesn't sound that bad, right. So to those fans here from
(19:22):
Texas, A and M, includingTrev Alberts, we love you, buddy.
And from Tennessee including Peyton Manning,we love you buddy. Then we
love all these guys. Thank youvery much for coming and hanging out in
Omaha. We hope you enjoy yourstay. It's going to be one hundred
degrees, don't melt. Oh,and uh, you might want to get
(19:45):
out of town before the airport floods. Scott Boys Mornings nine to eleven,
