He had to really sell it wasbetween Greg Saint Jean and Jean Paul miss

in adding Florida State if it leavesthe ACC, which is a lie.
Both conferences don't want FSU. Wedon't need that Tallahassett money. It ain't

the case, but still they sayit doesn't make financial sense. Neither have
a desire to expand, and reportedlythey've been a disruptive partner interesting in the
ACC and that's something other conferences arewatching. Hey, I saw how you
treated your wife before I saw whatyou did. You kicked her in the
(08:43):

can see the SEC saying, we'regood, We've got Florida. We don't
need Florida State. But the Bigten. You're not gonna sell me on
the idea that you don't want FloridaState, that they don't want another Smith

know, and put that in yourlittle pipe. And then somebody in the
(09:05):

(09:48):
It's a real number. Yeah, that's a real number. And southern section

How are you? I'm doing well? Guys, thank you for having
(13:39):
me. What are we looking at, Jovann What are we seeing out there?
Buja? What do you see outthere? But what's the real story
out there? You guys are lookingfor Dalton Connect. That's uh, that's
what you guys are watching for.Whatever I turned on, but I don't
turn on. That's not the story. Those aren't the headlines, you know
what. The story is not aboutthe Connect gang. I know what the
story is. Yeah, the storyis Annie James, and it well because
(14:03):
of his last name, right andbecause it's the Lakers, and I mean
you getting into Las Vegas, hewas there with your guys. Boys saw
it was Brownie James and horror onthe face of Summer League. So yeah,
I mean, look, there's nodenying it's been rough. You know,
(14:24):
he has not made a three pointeryet, he has had I mean,
there's a couple of air balls lastgame, though Lakers Summer League coach
Dame Johnson felt that that was moreto do with Bronnie getting a couple of
grenades at the end of a possessionwhere someone just kicked the ball to him
and he had to fling something upthere. But yeah, yeah, like
there's no denying. No one saysthat about anybody else ever. I've never
(14:46):
heard that about anybody else. Here'shere's my thing, though, I'm personally
not very surprised I think anyone elsethat you know, because I've I see
everything on social media. I trynot too, but I see a lot
of it, and there's been, you know, I've seen comments of like,
well, why don't they run offensefor him, or why don't they
give the ball to him? Likethat's just not who Brownie is at this
(15:09):
stage of his career. Like heis a kick the ball out and he
takes an open three, or occasionallyhe'll break someone off the dribble in these
kind of like random possessions. Butfor the most part, he is clearly
a role player offensively and then defensively. I think there's been some flashes of
him battling bigger guys in the postor steals or you know, he had
(15:30):
some nice plays, especially in theCali Classic, But it's it's the development,
and I think anyone who expected otherwisejust had unrealistic expectations, because if
you watched him at USC, heclearly was still finding his footing on both
sides of the ball. I stillthink he's rather raw as a prospect,
and he still has a ways togo to being an NBA caliber even like
(15:54):
back end rotation player. So Ithink he's going to spend a lot of
year in the G League. Ithink he you will probably have to spend
a lot of next year in theG League barring some unforeseen progress and development.
So, like it's going to bea process, and this could even
be a multi year process. Butanyone expecting him to come out and kill
it from day one or game onein Summer League, I think that was
(16:18):
just setting him up to fail. And obviously, given the name and the
pedigree and all that, Like, there's going to be a certain level of
attention and scrutiny, and there aregoing to be a certain level of expectations
with him. I just don't Ithink realistically, like as you've been,
probably a little bit worse than theexpectations I had. Like, yes,
I think at least on the offensiveend, but I think I didn't expect
(16:41):
him to come out and be likea twenty point per game scorer and like
justify the contract. From the beginningof this, I always thought this was
going to be a longer process. And if not, a multi year process.
So from that perspective, like, again, has he underachieved, I
would say yes. But at thesame time, I don't think like that
there was this high bar necessarily justbased on what we saw at USC,
(17:03):
based on him going at number fiftyfive, and just based on what we
knew like this was not he wasnot a guy who's going to have these
like I catching numbers and whatnot,Like he's not been that player since high
school so far. So I dothink that there's still a bit of a
learning curve there and we need togive it a little bit more time before
we make a final assessment on whohe is or what he could be.
(17:26):
I think the you know, you'veaddressed it a little bit there, and
I think you didn't address it directly, which is no big deal. I
mean, I think a lot ofpeople, you know, can can connect
the dots that this was. Hewas drafted because Lebron wanted him drafted,
He came out because his dad wantedhim to come out, and he's on
the Lakers because his dad wants itto be on his you know, legacy
(17:47):
retirement. You know piece that hewas the first guy who have ever played
with his son in the NBA inan actual game. It's selfish and whatever
it is what it is. Butfrom a basketball standpoint, Yovan as someone
who covers this team, who knowsthe gems that Nick Mazella finds, the
Alex Caruso's, the Austin Reeves. What I'm wondering is because that roster spot
(18:07):
now belongs to him, they cannotfill it with somebody else. Are they
missing out? Is there somebody outthis traiory kid? Is there someone that's
not going to make the team becausethey chose to take care of Lebron James
and draft his son and give hima guaranteed contract. Is Is it that
big of a mistake that it couldend up costing them a spot for someone
(18:29):
that could make a difference potentially,You know, I don't think you can
rule that out. Like with Trioreand Blake Hinson, those guys are two
of their new two way contracts,so they will have an opportunity to play
during the season, and depending onwhat happens with the back end of the
roster, they can always clear aroster spot to sign one of those guys
(18:52):
if they if they want to.But I even look at a guy like
Triore. You know you've seen flashesfrom him, certainly, but his brother
is a projected lottery pick in nextyear's draft, And like that's an example
of like I mean, because ofwho lebron is and because of who Bronny
is, I think there's a microscopeon this. But you can go through
(19:15):
like recent like the Knicks signed jR. Smith's brother, and his brother
was not an NBA caliber player atthe time. The Nasis onto the Kumpo
has been in the league for abit because largely because of the honest and
and you know, he decided acouple of moments as like a rotation guy,
but for the most part, Idon't think he would be on a
(19:36):
lot of rosters. You could lookat the Warriors keeping around Damian Lee,
who is married to Steph Curry's sister. And then you could even look in
like the front office situation with theKnicks of Leon Rose, you know,
used to rep Rick Brunson, andRick Brunson's Jalen Brunson's dad, and then
his agent is Sam Rose, who'sLeon Rose's son. And like this whole
(19:59):
concept of like petism and sports isvery prevalent. It just so happens that
Lebron is Lebron and there's like thisthis extra magnification on it. So it's
not to justify it by any means. I'm just saying, like these things
happen, Like there are guys onthe back end of a lot of rosters
that don't necessarily belong on them. Now with Bronny obviously, like he struggled,
(20:19):
and it could like I think theLakers have had multiple things go against
them where looking at the guys fromlast year, Jalen Huch if you know,
Maxwell Lewis neither one. Jal isn'teven playing yet, he's still recovering
from a back injury. But youknow, those are a couple of spots
that are being taken up. Brownyobviously, I don't think it's going to
be a rotation guy. And thenthey have these player options guys opt in
(20:42):
Cam Reddish, Christian Wood, JacksonHayes, and like they have several spots
on this roster that are probably notrotation caliber guys. And seeing a guy
like Gary Trent Junior go for theminimum to Milwaukee, like that's where it
really stings. A guy like GaryTrent Junior could really help the Lakers,
So I mean, it certainly isa factor. I'm not going to say
(21:02):
like him, like I think he'sprobably more of a two way guy,
right, like based on what we'veseen, and even then that might be
a little generous, but like, like he's played more like a two way
guy than an actual roster spot guy. But at the same time, his
dad is his dad, and likeit's just based on like the recent history
of how teams have catered to theirstars, like this is very much in
(21:23):
line with that. It just sohappens that again there he's been in the
spotlight for a decade. But kindof focus on it more. You know
that there's all of those stories youjust mentioned and you had to dig hard
for him, like you're at thebeach with the sand with the detective.
Yeah, those guys are still around, and then there's this story, right,
I mean, and you you've alludedto that. So my question,
(21:47):
I guess is you know this doesn'thappen in a vacuum. The entire NBA
seas is, the entire NBA seasontargets this poor young man. I don't
know how anybody on the team feelsabout him, or how people are interacting.
I'm sure they all freaked out andfeel like they're working for Bronny in
the first place, I mean lebronin the first place. And this only
(22:07):
has to make it weirder. Imean much. How many bad decisions can
you afford as a franchise if you'rethe Lakers and now this this is the
biggest story. It's an elephant inthe room for no good reason. Yeah,
I mean look like and to beclear, I'm not disagreeing with you,
guys. I'm just laying out thatI feel like it's more just like
I feel like that there's this narrativeout there that like teams back end of
(22:32):
rosters don't have some element of likenepotism or cronyism or you know. Sometimes
it's as simple as just uh,the same agent as the star And you've
seen that with the Lakers with guysfrom Clutch of certain guys have gotten certain
contracts or or whatnot because of that. But you've seen it other teams have.
You know, if you're star playeras a certain agent and that's a
(22:53):
power agent, they can get oneof their clients a contract on your rosters.
So I just more so I feellike people are kind of cherry.
Like I get the the optics, and it's such a high profile story,
so I understand why it's being paidmore attention to. I just also want
to provide kind of the counterpoint oflike this isn't necessarily rare. It's just
(23:14):
that because he's been he's been aprospect for since he was a little kid
and all through high school, beingfollowed at Sierra Canyon and like all this
stuff. So like I get whyit's such a big story. I just
also I don't think this is necessarilya situation that is unique in so far
as like this stuff always plays ina part. And it's not like he
didn't get some like you know, four year, eighty million dollar deal or
(23:37):
something like that. It's it wasboha just because they have got a really
good job of find those guys, you know, you know, it's it's
hurt. Like I think the backend of the roster, like I like
the Lakers top eight or nine andbeyond that, I don't like the rest
of the roster. Right, Bronniis included in that group, and I
look at like some of these otherteams in the West that just can go
ten eleven twelve D and it's likeif you have an injury to a Lebron
(24:03):
or an ad or even somebody youknow, Austin Reeves, Jared Vanderbilt,
whoever, like all of a sudden, you're relying on guys who aren't ready.
So like it's certainly a factor.Like the Lakers have mismanaged, in
my opinion, the back end ofthis roster. And that's why, I
mean, they could make a consolidationtrade where they trade a couple of these
minimum guys with like a second roundpick and open up some roster flexibility.
They for whatever reason I've chosen outto do that, and I think it's
(24:26):
a mistake. I think they needto improve the back end of the roster,
and obviously Brownie is a part ofthat. But they're not going to
trade Bronnie. They're not going tocut Bronnie like it is what it is.
He's a part of the roster. So from like they need to explore
other avenues to do that. Butyeah, I mean, like he's a
longer term project, and I thinkit's a situation where if we're looking at
this from like two years from now, and what we're having the same conversation
(24:49):
in twenty twenty six, and Bronniehas not shown any substantial growth and still
is not a rotation caliber guy.I think it's fair to hammer the situ
situation. I think it's fair tohammer the contract, and we'll see where
the Lakers are at that point. But I think for now he was always
going to be a project, andanyone who thought otherwise, like and was
(25:11):
going to view him through the lensof like, can't he contribute year one?
He's not going to contribute your one, Like as things stand, that's
just, you know, unless hebecomes a much better shooter and a better
defender and a better ball handler likethat, there's all these steps that he
has to take to become an actual, like rotation caliber guy that I just
don't think it's going to happen withinthe next year and through that lens,
I'm you know, It's just it'salso like that they are saving some money
(25:34):
with the contract technically because he's makingless than like a VET minimum guy.
So like you will see teams,he's not the only late secon round pick
to get trade. Yeah, it'slook, I get it, I get
it. I just I think likeat some level like Lebron. Lebron has
the power right to do what he'sdone, and he did it, so
apparently that's crazy. That's the crazything. He has the power. But
(26:00):
is there another NBA franchise that wouldallow a forty year old player to hijack
their their team like this? Ithink so, okay, I think any
like I think I need to ifLebron had left, you know, the
one team that cap space that youknow could have signed him would have been
Philly. I'm sure if he wentto Philly and they'd be like sure,
(26:21):
yeah, So I think that's likeagain, it's like you you bring in
Chris Smith to appease j R.Smith, you bring in the NASAs to
I mean the Lakers did this previouslywith with coastas onto the compo where they
had the pipe dream of of eventuallygetting Giannis to come to l A.
So like again, I mean theguaranteed contract in the four years like that
(26:45):
is obviously a little more than exceptioncompared to that, but like actually having
a ross like you. I don'twant to say wasting is just such a
strong word, but like spending aroster spot on a player who is two
years two years away. Yeah, look like the one thing I do,
you know, I don't feels likeI'm kaping for Bonnie right now. We
(27:07):
don't mean to put you on thehot seat. You know, it's fine.
I just but the one thing, like at least from talking to people
from from the Lakers of what theysee and what their vision is is like,
this was a guy who, beforehis heart situation, was a projected
first round pick by ESPN and wasa a McDonald's All American And if he
didn't have the name that he had, he wouldn't have been like projected first
(27:32):
round pick and he wouldn't have beenpotentially right. But but I think there's
like a different there's a different waythis story plays out of like, this
was a guy who was projected togo in the first round of this draft.
He ends up having this like horrifictraumatic situation happened, and this team
is taking a chance on him atthe back end of the draft, and
it's it's a very low risk. It's a very low risk because right now,
(27:56):
if you replaced Brownie with an actualVET minimum player, the Lakers are
over or there are only forty fivethousand dollars under that second apron, so
even by you know, and that'spartly because of the other ways they mismanaged
to strousster with the player options theygave out last summer of like if you
just replace, like take Brownie off, put Gary Trent Junior on, you're
over the second apron and all ofa sudden, there's all these restrictions.
(28:17):
So like in a way, likeBrownie's contract is actually saving the Lakers unless
they just didn't have a player inthat spot like period, it's really some
of the other contracts now again ingeneral, like that spot is being taken
by a player who isn't going tocontribute next season, so that hurts their
their depths, it hurts their flexibility. But I just I don't know.
It's a tricky situation. I'll tellyou what, Jovann. It hurts my

(32:15):
Birthday of the Day. Well thisconnects. We were just talking up Christine
McVie and her connection to Spencer Davisthat helped her get her start and find
her way to Fleetwood. Mac Exhusband had to play the bass line on
her song about It Fen the GripGuy Today. Spence never listened to that
song the same again, No,we certainly won't. What about eighty five?
(32:38):
But Alas he died in twenty twenty, an all time green born in
Wales, Swansea, Pop's paratrooper inWW two. So while dad was fighting,
Spencer shacked up with his cowardly unclewho wasn't fighting. I don't know
if the uncle was at cold, but the uncle did expose him to music.
(33:00):
Had one leg are accordion harmonica. He was heard of the raids,
he lived through the blitz did Spencerhis town completely leveled? Picked up the
music that was his salvation and abright kid. Languages was his specialty in
German, as you can hear himsinging here in German the Age of Aquarius.
(33:22):
Pretty great, French, Spanish, work for the civil service, A
levels for languages. After that,University of Birmingham for German. So smart,
everyone all his friends called him professor. But he kept playing, kept
jamming, finding new music, newinfluences, blues, jazz, folk,
the debut of rock and roll,Big Bill Brunsei lyd Belly, Buddy Holly
(33:46):
and he and Christine Perfect at thetime, hooked up at school, had
a relationship, played around the cafescene together. In sixty three he saw
the Muffwood jazz band, Muff Windwood. And while Muff was playing this younger
you had Filipino sex earlier in theweek and now you got Muffwood. Uh.
(34:07):
While Muff was on stage and allI had was stab up to meet
his little brother. Steve was therewatching, And so Spencer Davis and Steve
Wynnwood and Pete Yorke strike up aconversation. Before you know it, they
started a band. Why the SpencerDavis Group, because Spencer did all the
business, the business of running aband. Chris Blackwell of Island Records happened
(34:29):
to be in town one of theirgigs, sign him on the spot,
insisted on being their producer, hadhim do a bunch of reggae covers.
Keep On Running by Jackie Edwards wasa number one song for him. Somebody
Help Me was another. And becauseSpencer Davis was fluent in German, they
(34:52):
did all this stuff too, andthey were huge in Germany singing in German.
Of course, Give Me Some Lovinand sixty six and the follow up
I'm A were two number ones. Both singles sold over a million copies.
Where would the Blues Brothers be withoutthis group? That's right, United Artists
stole them from Island. Interesting littlenote by the way, so UA steals
(35:14):
them. Muff and Muff would havesince disbanded, and Blackwell has given Muff
an A and R gig and says, hey, we just lost the Spencer
Davis group. What are you goingto do about it? And he's like,
convinced my brother to leave the bandand start his own and we'll sign
them. Here's traffic, Blackwell, what do you think of that? And
(35:34):
that's why the Spencer Davis Group cameto an end so Muff could sign someone
traffic Accident. Davis tried to keepit going, Yeah, but alas it
is a solo all right. Wentback to the UK. Also took an
executive gig with Island, and Blackwellwas responsible for promoting Bob Marley Robert to
(36:00):
name a couple. And how wildis this? He decides f at all
Man nineteen seventy five. He movesto Catalina, Avalon and that's where you
live for like twenty five years, just cruising around Avalon water rationing and dirty
feet from all the exhausts and thegolf carts because they're gas powered. Tried
(36:21):
to get a supergroup going with ourguy Meisner, but it flopped. I'm
not crossing the channel for you,Spencer, but he did develop the Catalina
All Stars, and I guess regularlyplayed around albums. Oh I listened to
the Catalina All Stars. That's ourman, Spencer David. Oh my god,
right, how weird is that they'reterrible? But everybody in Catalina loves
unbelievable. Have you ever seen thenight sky a shock harbor? Have you
(36:45):
ever seen the wind socke at theairport filled with wind Spencer Davis, the
Catalina All Stars wild? Have youever got drunken luil? Larry's all right,
man, we got a we gota singer also connected with Bob Marley.
Here on Jamaican News Today, sadstory, it's even Saturday. Spencer
(37:08):
Davis getting his feet dirty in Avalon. I swear I was a jails lockeran
put my head up and right underthe the old Eric Dickerson poster was Spencer
Davis. In between Dickerson and youngBlood. Spencer Davis was sitting there drinking
a Singapore Slaves. Did you hearthat guy singing give me some loving at
(37:29):
el galli on Yeah suck. Thatwas him seventy six today, Junior Biles
a k A. Chubby or KingChubby or just Kenneth, great reggae singer
and starved the streets. He sangin church. That's how he got started,
(37:52):
deeply religious family for into a vocaltrio, and that vocal trio met
Lee Scratch Perry. Lee Scratch Perrywas working at a different studio at that
time than Black Art. Thought hewas pretty good. And then when Bob
Marley fell out with Lee Scratch Perry, because everybody eventually did, because Lee
(38:14):
Scratch Perry was legally insane, Perrythought Files was perfect to fill the shoes
of Bob Marley. He did not, but he did score some minor hits
that would grow in popularity down throughthe years. And the whole time that
Junior Biles was trying to become areggae star, he supplemented his income or
(38:37):
his regular income was that of aJamaican firefighter, which means would anybody ever
get there mouth burned by the reggaereggae sauce. He'd come and host of
Mountain out. I believe that isthe pretty sure that is the function of
the Jamaican Fire Department. I'm notexactly well had been there once or twenty.
(38:59):
He became a rock and his rost. The lyrics were very, very
strong, songs like beat Down Babylon, songs like Whipped Down Babylon, songs
like King of Babylon. If you'rea Babylonian, you're don't want to get
out of this guy's way. Ibelieve it's the point he was trying to
(39:22):
make in the seventies. Seems likeit was a one platform position. In
the seventies he had big hits aswell, with covers, most of them
not abount of Babylon, but verysadly mad as many rosters suffered this fate
in the mid seventies, when HaleSelazi, their deity who denied being a
deity, the King of Ethiopia died, he went into a deep, deep

depression and could not be recovered.Focus Celassi was not who he thought.
He didn't come and take everybody inthe well the Black Star Liner. Yeah,
he didn't fill the Black Star Linerwith the Blacks bring him back across
modern to be rereceived in Africa, which they would not have been. No,
(40:06):
they wouldn't no the tribal war.But uh, he was very sad,
and the sadness was so much thathe was scavenging on the streets and
begging and living like a dog, occasionally resurfing to record like a dog in
the street. Got it together inthe early oughts and toured a bit.
(40:30):
Diagnosed with prostate cancer five years ago. I believe he's now completely and totally
supported by the warlord, the bountykiller, who pays his bills. That's
nice. Who knew the bounty killerhad such a bi The warlord is the
nicest guy, the biggest heart.I was checking the Jamaica news the other
day, was Payton a hospital?Seriously, come on? He's like,
(40:50):
hey, oh go esephy not fordog. Shut on him, lad on
him. I did you just sayspy die? Yes? Did you say
copper shot in his back or inhis eyes? I did see if you,
sir. But I'm Peyton his hospitaland you're from Seaview. What a
nice neighborhood. Okay, we'll beback with more great sports talk tomorrow.

Buster Only and Rich Hill with abig Dodger talk tonight. Thank you,
Well, yeah, I guess yeah. You sign a guy with no arms
can't even throw, be a lotworse. Mitt would just sit there with
the ball. No armless prospect inthe major leagues seems like air. It's
a guy in the Savannah Bananas. It's pretty, it's impressive. He pitches
(41:34):
with his sternam. He's called Sternhampop Jones. What happens is the shortstop
throws at as hard as I canand the angles his stern right at the
catcher, and Ricky Sternham pop Jonesis not going to be a Dodger this
year. All right, thanks everybody. We'll have a great night. Talk
to you tomorrow. You s
