Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Oh great to have you. An hour three show us
flying by Dodgers Mets Tonight here on Fox Dave Roberts,
Dodgers managers, Bets Walker, Bire Ghost Tonight, Otani Bets Freeman,
not getting HiT's about two fifteen, two seventeen. Some of
that's just Mets pitching. H He's about five minutes out,
seven minutes out. Jmac. You know, I tend to be boring.

(00:51):
You live a much more dynamic life out there in
rec leagues hoisting up threes. I'm in bed. I got
in bed last night at seven forty five. It's out
my eighth seven. I watched the Yankees. Yankees took a
league it was, and I'm like, okay, I'm going.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
To bed out.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
I don't live the life you live.

Speaker 5 (01:09):
But we have a big game tomorrow night. You know,
the former NBA player on our team. He's showing up tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
You no, I want to watch bow Knicks, bo Bo Nix,
a lot bone Knicks.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Oh my gosh, I almost died there.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Well, my boxs so tonight the biggest Dodger game, the
biggest Met game in a calendar year. Dave Roberts is
going to be joining us here. Uh. I think what's
interesting we said this two weeks ago on the show
that the National League Playoffs, you got four unique teams.

(01:46):
You got Philadelphia I didn't think had that much talent,
but I had a superstar in Bryce Harper, leadoff hitter
with power.

Speaker 5 (01:53):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
There was a lot about the Phillies their home field advantage.
The Mets were the hot team, especially late in The
Dodgers have the big payroll, the great stars, but they're pitching.
They can't keep pitchers healthy. So and then you had
kind of hungry, cocky young Tattis Manny Machado and the
Podre So you had four different iterations of baseball teams

(02:15):
that are all very, very successful. The Yankees feel like
the best team in the American League. They feel like
the best team and nobody else, I mean, is it
me or the Yankees whenever they face like American League
Central teams, whoever the team is, just don't feel like
they're they're up to beating the Yankees. So I think
the National League has been much more interesting, not just

(02:36):
because Fox has it. I just think it's one of
those years. Also, something that was said an hour ago
in our show, and I was surprised he said it,
and he's not wrong. But Joel Klatt USC is three
and three, and you know, all the torches are out
to get Lincoln Riley out of here. And Joel Klatt

(02:58):
two hours ago said something, and I don't think he's wrong.

Speaker 6 (03:03):
USC is at a point that Sark was two years ago.
Remember when Sark would always lose those close games. Remember
it's like, oh, they could have beat or should have
beat Alabama, but didn't you know? And why Well, their
offensive line was young, remember, and guess what they've got
now all those same offensive linemen and they're the best
team in college football.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
USC will be just.

Speaker 6 (03:24):
Fine as long as Lincoln can retain the talent on
the line of scrimmage. Remember two years ago, people at
Austin were like, hey, man, is Sark really like are we?

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Are? We sure?

Speaker 6 (03:34):
About sark and now toast of the town and why
they developed, and they did so at the line of scrimmage.
I think that's the trajectory that USC is on.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
So just to remind you of the offensive coaches in
college football that you kept pushing back on. Brian Kelly. Well,
in the end, Brian Kelly left and Notre Dame was
a top five program. You push back the entire time.
Jim Harbaugh, he won a national championship. Steve Sarkeshan at

(04:07):
Texas easily the best team in the country. Lincoln Riley.
So two things are true about college football, even at
the big powers. It takes longer than you think. Takes
longer than you think. And secondly, if a coach is
excellent on the offensive side of the ball, be very
careful betting against him. You know, Brian Kelly gets rolled

(04:30):
against like Alabama Manti teo team and you're like, this
guy's a By the time he left, they could go
toe to toe with Georgia. He knew what he was doing.
He just got burnt out from the whole Notre Dame thing.
Jim Harbaugh, you were bailing Steve sarkshan You were bayling
these offensive coaches. I mean, weren't you all bailing on
Lane Kiffin's career five or six years ago? You were

(04:52):
all bailing on Lane Kiffin. The way the sport works now,
you can't stop the good offenses. Even Nick Saban acknowledged
in the end at Bama you're facing brock Bauers, You're
facing Carson Beck, You're facing these good You're facing Sark
in that offensive line. You can't stop them. The rules
have changed. We see it in the NFL. It's obvious.
Same thing in college. So I mean, I'm I mean

(05:13):
kiffen Get didn't like him, Sark getting like him. The
other guy that everybody is doubting is Ryan Day, the
offensive coach, offensive leaning coach for Ohio State. Everybody's doubting
Ryan Day. My take is there are a lot of coaches.
I doubt they have personal behavior issues. You know, they're
they're difficult. There's ego when it when it comes down

(05:34):
to offensive coaches, they almost all figured out they got
the secret sauce. They almost always figured it out.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd weekdays
and noon Easter non a Empacific.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Yeah, it's it's literally if you live in Los Angeles
and follow the Dodgers. It's actually kind of remarkable they're here.
They have an entire starting staff, and not just a
kind of a good one, a great one. All injured.
Oh Tawi not available, Miller May Glass now from Tampa,
Dusty May Dustin makes you mean they're not available? So

(06:12):
and tonight Walker Buhler goes. So Bueller was out. He
missed half of twenty twenty two, all of twenty twenty three.
Tommy John surgery. He is back. But it's I mean,
this it has just been kind of an epidemic in
an organization that does virtually everything well. They have just
suffered through remarkable starting pitching injuries. And Dave Roberts is

(06:36):
joining us. They pay based the Mets. Tonight biggest game
Dodger game, Man Met game of you know, in a year.
So okay, so when you do know that's why these
bullgame bullpen games are. It was so remarkable against San Diego,
it was I mean, you absolutely needed everybody to pitch
a great inning and got everybody to do it. But
does it force you as a manager, Dave, to be

(07:01):
maybe a bit more aggressive offensively knowing you don't have
any pitching depth.

Speaker 7 (07:08):
I think that's completely fair.

Speaker 8 (07:13):
Our offense certainly understands, you know, the landscape of our roster,
and you're gonna have to we're gonna have to score runs.
That goes without saying, and it's it's one of those
things where as you said, Colin, is there's so many
guys that we don't have alive on the pitching side
that there's gonna be guys that I have to trust

(07:36):
to take down out in a long series. But honestly,
it does come down to the offense that they got
to score runs.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
So there's been some pushback. So you can bat O
Tani anywhere in the first four. I mean, but when
you have Freeman and you've got you know, Mookie Betts,
who has remarkable power for kind of a slight frame,
it's it's it's just it's it's pretty remarkable. So Tommy
at the leadoff because he can run, he can hit
with power. But I was looking at the numbers with

(08:05):
the bases. He's been very good with men on base
in the postseason, he has struggled with the base is empty.
So let me be let me be pushback guy. Hey, Skipper,
we got a guy that has been great with men
on base, why not hit him third? What about that criticism, No,
I think it's fair.

Speaker 8 (08:25):
I do think that, you know, with guys on base,
he's locking in more. I still expect him to have
a good CS. I do like the way that you know,
putting show Hey in the leadoff spot, we're guaranteeing him
five at bats essentially. Yeah, And I think that that's

(08:47):
one thing is a certain I can't guarantee hitting him
three or four that there's going to be a guys
on base in front of him. So with certainty, I
just know I wanted him to get the a bat
as many at bats as possible.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
He won a World Series player with the Red Sox.
Manager of the Dodgers under Dave Roberts, lead the baseball
nine years wins era run differential, led the Dodgers to
the playoff every season. I used to say this about
Joe Tory because I don't like to bang on NFL
coaches for play calling. I don't know who's hurt, who's healthy.

(09:19):
Situational baseball, it's very easy to bang on the result.
I'm more interested in the process, so I'm not going
to bang on managers. But I always said about Joe Tory,
I didn't know if he was situationally a great manager.
Had Zimmer next to him. I don't know, but I
knew this loud market, twenty guys around the batting cage.
New York Times wfan there. He was always like the

(09:43):
step dad. He didn't want to tick off all the
guys kind of respected him. Nine years in LA The
media can be rough when it comes to the Dodgers.
You've been I don't know the word stoic mature. Are
there times though that you hear? You know, because there's
only one World Series title? That you think to yourself, people,

(10:03):
do you ever get frustrated with us or the situation
or the bigness of the because it's a big job
with a big payroll, do you ever feel the pressure?

Speaker 7 (10:13):
You know what?

Speaker 8 (10:14):
I really appreciate the candor the honest question. I do
truth be told. I think that I was telling my
wife the other day. It's like, you know, with baseball,
me and Boonie are probably have the toughest jobs in
sports in the sense of the markets. We play a
lot of games. It's either be the last team standing

(10:38):
or you've failed your jobs. In jeopardy there's obviously a
lot of noise, but it's something that I'm very grateful
for the opportunity to be a part of this organization.
I love the Dodge that I love being the Los Angeles.
I think for me it's the focus as always trying
to stay on the players and if I can do
that and get the respect to those guys and putting

(10:59):
superstars to for the benefit of winning a ball game.
Playing for the Dodgers, I think I've done my job,
and a lot of it though Colin is taking the
heat for things that people don't know all the information,
and that's part of managing, right, and so that's part
of what I signed up for. But yeah, with the
way the world is, it gets really noisy. It is

(11:21):
something that I don't know people can sustain doing this
for a long long time because it does bleed in.
It's a little tough, but I still love I really
love the game.

Speaker 7 (11:29):
I love the players.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
So the Mets did something. First of all, they're very good, obviously,
but they became I mean, they were so good in
late innings offensively, and it is weird. There is something
about baseball that you start it's the ghosts maybe opposing
managers overmanaged. But when you look at the Mets seven eight,

(11:53):
nine innings and their ability to produce hits string them together,
do you think about do you want to know about
that or is it just do you look at it
and think it's coincidental? Don't think about that, it'll get
into your head. They were crazy in late inning as
the Phillies. What do you make of that or do
you just think, hey, outser outs, it doesn't matter.

Speaker 7 (12:15):
I do think outs are outs.

Speaker 8 (12:18):
I do like the way that being on the West Coast,
we've been really insulated from the late inning Mets heroics,
which I think is a good thing. And for me
playing with the Red Sox years ago, obviously that's to
the end degree as far as the ghosts of baseball.
So I think for us, you know, Frankie Lindor is

(12:42):
playing tremendous baseball. Obviously, these guys have gotten big hits late.
I think for us to just go out there and
play good baseball and not try to let Grimace or
whoever it is kind of bleed into the series.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
Yeah, so Walker Buehler tonight, this is a kid that
has Tommy John missed a lot of time. This is
his biggest start, and you know these are these games
are tough. New York is loud. What will you be
looking at tonight from the steps of the dugout? Is
it velocity, location, a certain batter? What are you going

(13:14):
to be staring at with this young guy?

Speaker 8 (13:17):
I think for me, I expect the velossit to be
right around ninety four to ninety six. Certainly going to
be looking at command, how he's going to command the
secondary pitches, obviously use the fastball as well.

Speaker 7 (13:31):
I'm not worried about the heartbeat, the emotions. He's pitching
a lot of huge ballgames for us.

Speaker 8 (13:37):
I think the thing I'm going to be looking for
is be it bats that these guys are taking against them,
if they're getting good looks, if they're getting good swings
off or conversely if they're not, if he's a fishing
with his pitches and they're not getting great swings. I
think for me, that's where I got to make a
decision how long I'm going to keep them in the game.
But I think a lot of it is dictated on

(13:57):
how good those at bats look.

Speaker 7 (13:59):
To me.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Okay, you guys, I think we're three and oh at
City Field this year seven Reno's going tonight. Is there
a way to attack him?

Speaker 7 (14:08):
You know, not really?

Speaker 8 (14:10):
Obviously he's been typically better versus right handers and left handers.
It's a very good fastball. It's going to be ninety seven,
ninety eight, ninety nine tonight. He uses, you know, pitches
to different locations. He pitches up, he pitches down with
the heater, there's a sweeper in there.

Speaker 7 (14:29):
So not really.

Speaker 8 (14:31):
I think for us is that he can make mistakes
in the middle part of the plate. So I think
for us it's kind of you know, look for your
zone in the middle part of the plate and try
not to expand. But if he makes a mistake, beltline,
be ready to hit it.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
Yeah. Does your heart rate go up in these games? Like,
I mean, do you sense this? This crowd's going to
be nuts? Do you sense I mean, all Dodger games
are big, right, even Tuesday Wednesday? But do you sense
as a manager, just just you know, at the other day,
I was watching Andy Reid on Monday Night Football and
you could tell Andy new he was on Monday Night Football.
He's running some trick plays. As a manager, do you

(15:05):
feel can you sense? Wow? This is magic? This is October.
This is huge.

Speaker 8 (15:12):
You can't, you can, and you know it's all fun,
but then you know, you get to the ballpark, the
music's going, and then it starts to kind of the
music goes down a little bit, Guys start getting more quiet,
get more focused. And tonight, Paulin, you're gonna see me
bundled up, because when I'm bundled up and warm, the
game doesn't speed up on me, and I see things

(15:33):
pretty clearly, So I'm gonna have my beanie on. But
this is what you live for with baseball. You want
to play cold games in October, and that's when you're
a kid and you dream about, you know, seeing postseason
baseball guys are bundled up, and this is what you
live for.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
It's gonna be great. Eight Eastern Severino, Walker Buehler, Dave Roberts,
two time World Series champ. Just like Aaron Boone. Just
like Aaron Boone, all you hear is nonsense. Stay hey,
stay off that Twitter thing. Make sure you stay away
from that thing.

Speaker 7 (16:04):
I don't do social media, call it no social media
for me.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
Well they have to. Unfortunately, Hey, good luck tonight, and
thank you for taking time for us. We really appreciate it.

Speaker 7 (16:13):
I appreciate your friend.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
Take care, all right, Dave Roberts, who is just you know,
the the Yankees in the American League, the Dodgers that
only you know. They stick with their guys and Brian
Cashman gets a lot of heat.

Speaker 8 (16:24):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
Last year was you know, a down year, but Dodgers
led the Dodgers to the playoffs. And every season, well
they spend money, yeah, and they can't stay healthy. It's insane.
We should have a graphic of the Dodger pitchers not available.
It's insane and like great pictures. Remember oh Tani, we
thought he was gonna pitch. No, that's glass. Now they

(16:45):
got like this twenty eight, twenty nine year old kid
they brought inim from Tama. He not available either, all right.
J Mack with the news.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
No, no, no, this is the headline news.

Speaker 5 (16:59):
We haven't talked much about Colts Dolphins this weekend, but
that's because the Colts have been hit by Do we
have to? I mean, they've been so beat up. But
good news is on the horizon. Jonathan Taylor returning to
action very.

Speaker 4 (17:13):
Likely this week. He's missed the last two games with.

Speaker 5 (17:15):
A high ankle sprain, but he says he's doing everything
he can to get back on the field.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
I'm definitely failing better this week.

Speaker 7 (17:23):
Ankles are nothing new to me. I've been dealing with
them for quite a bit.

Speaker 8 (17:26):
I'm doing everything in my power to be back out
there again this week.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
You know, the high ankles are always tricky.

Speaker 5 (17:33):
Yeah, he's one of the top backs in the league,
especially with McCaffrey.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
Nown didn't you say earlier this year there was something
going on he wasn't getting the touches. He's outstanding well.

Speaker 5 (17:46):
I think Stichen's getting used to what he has with
Richardson and Taylor healthy, and they kind of haven't been
healthy together a lot.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Flacco has been in there.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
Let me ask you, if they end up third in
the division or second and third, do you just you
got two years Anthony richard and healthy, not healthy, healthy,
not healthy? Do you stick with him?

Speaker 4 (18:03):
I think you kind of have to. I mean, he
started like seven games in his career, I know.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
So my take is it's interesting. There's things they do well.
I like their roster, but you're as good as your
quarterback's health. Yeah, it's unlucky.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
Coult are three and a half point favorites against Tyler
Huntley and the unwatchable Dolphins. I know you played fantasy Colin,
but like it's funny Tyreek Hill Jalen Waller. We don't
hear about those guys at all anymore because two is
out of the league or he's concussed and not playing.

Speaker 4 (18:31):
But like the.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
Miami Dolphins have gone from playoff team interesting scoring a
lot to totally irrelevant, Like they're unwatchable without two of
Colin at quarterback.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Yeah, I mean they don't even qualify as a corner
TV game. Like I'm not gonna watch a team if C. J.
Stroud had a month off, I'm not gonna watch Houston.
It doesn't it doesn't matter.

Speaker 6 (18:52):
You're not.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
It's like watching college basketball in December with a transfer portal.
Half the team is new, new recruit, So you watch Kansas,
or let's say it's like watching around Thanksgiving. You watch
Kansas at Thanksgiving. These guys haven't even played together, and
then you watch Kansas in February and they got thirty
two games together, and you're like, Okay, I get a
sense of it. I don't want to watch your team.

(19:15):
Jake Browning and Joe Burrow. It's a different team.

Speaker 4 (19:17):
Well, that's the thing. I was gonna say, Jake Browning
when he filled in for Burrow, but he's not.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
But he's not.

Speaker 5 (19:21):
He's not Burrow obviously, but he was good and kept
them competitive. Malik Willis fills in for two games.

Speaker 4 (19:25):
He's not bad. Joe Flacco comes on.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
Well, Joe Flacco is different.

Speaker 5 (19:30):
He's indeed all right. Next up Colin the Dallas Cowboys. Yes,
when you look up the Cowboys in the dictionary, a
picture of Michael Irvin pops up. He's basically, you know,
the quick essential Dallas cowboy. There's nobody in the media
who reps harder for Dallas than Michael Irvin. So this
was a bit of a shocker on Speak yesterday. Here's
what Michael Irvin said about the Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
That's sow.

Speaker 7 (19:54):
That is soft.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
You got you had fourteen.

Speaker 4 (19:57):
Exposed to plays to guess that. Nif I said, that's
that's totlet tissuesaw I saw and I don't mind saying
that sawt And they need to see a saft.

Speaker 8 (20:08):
They need to look in the mirror and realize and
saw they were thinking about Dubaye be thinking about meeting Ed.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
But he's not wrong.

Speaker 5 (20:17):
We can't wait for Michael Michah Parsons to chime in
on his podcast about Michael Irving going after the soft
Cowboys defense.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
I mean soft might be be generous.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
Would like to see I like Micah. I think it
does a good job on the podcast too. Give me
Micah's last seventeen games. What has he done? I'd like
to see it.

Speaker 5 (20:34):
How about strip out against the dumpster fire no teams
in the league.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
No, I don't care what he's doing against.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
The pants, but you can's not fair to a player.

Speaker 5 (20:41):
You can't can't pay it based on that because that's
where he's patting his stats. He hasn't done anything. Go
look at his playoff games. It's a limited sample size,
but he's done like nothing.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
Well, you're also playing against the five great left tackles
in football.

Speaker 9 (20:53):
I thought he was great.

Speaker 4 (20:54):
I thought he was one of the best players in
the league, and he wants to get paid like it.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
I thought he was an elite half. You can't just
count against Trent Williams. You have to count against the
meat balls.

Speaker 4 (21:01):
Who did the Packers started at left tack off? Michael
Parsons did nothing.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
You're not a I like Micah, but I think he
has greater value than reality. Cede Lamb. His reality and
his value are the same, right, Like that's I you know,
Justin Jefferson, his salary and his reality are the same,
Jamar Chase, Joe Burrow, Micah is getting it.

Speaker 7 (21:25):
You know.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
It's like Aaron Rodgers. His the belief of what he's worth.
His numbers are Derek Carr. In the last year and
a half, it's like, ohbj and Larry Fitzgerald. Larry Fitzgerald
got paid a lot. Objay got talked about a lot.
Aaron's getting talked about like he's Mahomes. But his play
since twenty twenty two is Derek Carr. Obj got talked

(21:47):
about a lot, but the play was you know, a
guy that couldn't stay healthy. Larry Fitzgerald was quiet and
giving you a production.

Speaker 5 (21:55):
You got Michael Irvin calling the defense offt you got
Jerry Jones fighting with radio hosts. Dallas is really in
a tough spot here. I mean, they paid Dak Now
Michael wants to get paid. They're going nowhere fast, Colin
oof Ruffer. Dallas final story is the Jets Steelers on
uh Monday. This The line for this game was Pittsburgh
by one and a half. But a lot has changed Tuesday,

(22:17):
the Jets at Devonte Adams and then the big news
on Pittsburgh. We don't know who's starting, Russell Wilson or
Justin Field, so Colin. This line has moved three points
now through zero, which is not that significant. But the
Steelers are one and a half point favorites. Now the
Jets are favored by one and a half in Pittsburgh.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
No, I Jets are gonna win the game. I that
was my I said this when they I said this
pre Davante Adams, I said the Jets. This is one
of my picks of the week, the Jets. Now the
line stinks, but but I already locked in the Rams
at five. It's up to seven this week. There's a
lot of bets. I like last couple of weeks, Like
last week I went three and one. This week there's

(22:56):
a lot of numbers.

Speaker 5 (22:57):
I like, So, do you like the Jets b because
of the matchup or the spot?

Speaker 1 (23:02):
I think there are certain losses over the course of
a season that I'm impressed with. I mean Tampa Bay
losing to Atlanta on Thursday night. You're like, that's an
impressive loss. Tampa's for real. Tampa's for real came back
the next week looked very good. I thought the Jets
at two and four, if that a field goal kicker,
I mean basically, if Taylor rap didn't make two ball

(23:26):
jarring plays at safety with the ball, I mean they
had a touchdown, they win the game against the good
Buffalo team. So I look at that two and four game,
and I'm like, that's a good team. Bet teams sometimes
teams off losses that play well. The Jets. Now, the
Lions all screwed up now, but the Jets are gonna
win that game.

Speaker 4 (23:46):
I like your confidence. It feels like season on the
line for the Jets.

Speaker 5 (23:49):
You can't go two and five and then have lose
the tiebreaker against the Broncos for a playoff spot and
the Steelers for a playoffs. The Jets have to win this.
I just think this is a bit of also of
an overreaction.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
Davonte Adams. He may only have four targets and two catches,
but adding him there is no question. I mean, you
ever stood next to Davonte. He adds juice to the room.
He is a world class athlete. He may not be
worth half a point, but he is definitely worth value
to a two and four team off a loss. Thinking
we got a.

Speaker 5 (24:19):
Dude, how much of this do you think is about
Russell Wilson potentially starting in Pitts.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
I don't. I think I would take I would take
the Jets. It's my second favorite bet of the week.

Speaker 5 (24:27):
I like the Jets with Russ starting, not so much
if Justin feels the Jets linebackers and think they're just
not great. Colin and Justin Field's running around, he could
he could easily rush for seventy yards against these guys easels.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
Seventy yards rushing? You know what I worry about? One
hundred yards versions rushing. Oh, this guy may run for
a first down. You know what I don't like? Three
hundred and thirty eight yards passing. That's what scares me.
Run around Wilson's cable of that. If you told me
Lamar Jackson ran for ninety yards, So what if you
told me he passed for three fifty? They won by touchdowns.

(25:01):
I don't care about guys running around. I like it
has added value. But if you tell me a guy's
passing numbers, I'll tell you if they want or lost
the game.

Speaker 4 (25:08):
Third and seven? Who strikes more fear into you?

Speaker 5 (25:10):
Justin fields with his legs or Russell Wilson with his
arm justin fields.

Speaker 4 (25:15):
He's gonna make it answer because I know the answer.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
You know who's to say it again?

Speaker 4 (25:20):
Third and seven? Justin fields with his legs? Does that
scare you? Or Russell Wilson dropping back to pass.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
Joe Flacco because he has no fear, big arms, seize
the field. That that's what scares me. Not run around you.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
That's the right answer.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
Yeah, the right answer to every question is Joe Flacco.
Virtually jeopardy questions. Just say, Joe Flacco, you got half
of them?

Speaker 7 (25:42):
Right?

Speaker 1 (25:42):
J Mack with a news Well.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
That's the news, and thanks for stopping by the Herd line.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
News man.

Speaker 1 (25:50):
We got a lot going on today. Do we got
we got Albert? Don't we? Einstein or or Breer? Which
one I'll take either?

Speaker 3 (25:58):
All right?

Speaker 1 (25:58):
Albert Breer breaking new he's on this stuff. He's next.
This is Herd.

Speaker 2 (26:02):
One more Herd. The Herd streams twenty four hours a day,
seven days a week within the iHeartRadio app. Search Herd
to listen live or on demand whenever you like.

Speaker 5 (26:12):
Make sure you play this week's Fox Super Six sponsored
by DraftKings. There's a special contest this week for Patriots
Jaguars in London, which you can see on NFL Network
Sunday at nine thirty am Eastern. Go to the Fox
Sports app and enter for a free chance to win
cast prizes.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
We don't talk, don't talk Jags much. Kind of like
the Jags this weekend. Something I haven't said in two years.
I really like the Jags this weekend. Albert Breer just
got back from the NFL owners meetings in the atl
Atlanta and he is now joining us. He's back home
Monday morning quarterback. So I was kind of rolling my

(26:52):
eyes at Woody Johnson saying we need change, and I thought,
oh boy, that's the last thing you need is change.
But I do think that to the best two and
four team in the league, I do think DeVante Adams,
I'll throw this at you. He for a two and
four team attitude and mood is a lot and Aaron
gets dark very quickly. I do think Davante brings a

(27:16):
feel of you look around that locker room and it's
like we got another dude. I think he helps the
Jets a little what say you.

Speaker 9 (27:24):
I agree with that, Like, I think, like just from
a football standpoint, you know, and this doesn't just go
for Aaron.

Speaker 3 (27:31):
This was Tom Brady at the end of his career.
It was Peyton Manning at the end of his career.

Speaker 9 (27:35):
Like, they just want guys out there they can trust
and who are gonna be you know, if I if
I say you're you gotta be at eight yards, You're
gonna be at eight yards, you know.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
And clearly there.

Speaker 9 (27:48):
Have been some communication issues with Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams,
and so you have Allen Wizard there, who obviously already
has the built in chemistry with with Aaron, and now
you're bringing in a guy who's been a true number.

Speaker 3 (27:59):
One for a long time who also has that.

Speaker 9 (28:02):
So I think it helps you from a football standpoint
there and running the offense the way that Aaron wants
it run, and the.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
Emotional part of it.

Speaker 9 (28:09):
I think I just think this part's really interesting, Colin,
because you know, you go back to Solid getting fired
last week, and you know, like I told you on Friday,
the move in the locker room over that one was, well,
where does this really help us?

Speaker 5 (28:24):
Right?

Speaker 9 (28:24):
Like, what is this going to do for us on
the field over the next three months. Then then they
go out and lose a game, and so now they're
pulling on another lever. They fired the coach, now they're
pulling on this other level to go on trade for
DeVante Adams. I think there's a lot of pressure on
a lot of people in that locker room to perform
on Sunday Night against the Steelers. And if they lose

(28:44):
this game and they're two and five and they pulled
these two levers in consecutive weeks and lost both games,
I mean, I wonder where it's going to leave the team.
So I think the DeVante Adams move puts everybody in
that or organization high alert. The stuff what he said
this week puts everybody in the organization on high alert.

(29:05):
And I think there's a ton of pressure on the
players to perform on Sunday night, because I just as
good as they are, as talented as they are, as
high as the ceiling is for the Jets, I don't
know where a loss.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
On Sunday Night would leave them as a team.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
So I watched that video of Nick Seriani and it's like, dude,
you're either a coach or a stadium DJ like pick
a Lane, the fact that he apologized the next day,
the shaved heads, the kid at the podium, Albert, this
is not like this feels. It feels like a relationship
that's framing and it's getting Like if they go on

(29:43):
a two game ugly losing streak, could he get whacked
around Thanksgiving.

Speaker 9 (29:48):
I don't think it'll happen in season, but I think
everybody knows that the Eagles would have options if they
were searching for a coach for twenty twenty five, and
high end options. Like I think if they had fired
Sirianni coming out of last year, either Mike Vrabel or
Bill Belichick.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
Would be there as the head coach.

Speaker 9 (30:08):
So they're gonna have high end options if they do
make a change after the year. And there's no easier
way to put a guy in notice than to go
in and change his staff and put people on his
staff who he does not have previous ties with. Kellen
Moore on offense and Vic Fangio on defense are guys
that are really accomplished coordinators who don't who didn't have

(30:29):
any previous ties to to Sirianni. So do I think
they're gonna, you know, push the nuclear button here in the.

Speaker 3 (30:36):
Next few weeks and get rid of Sirianni.

Speaker 9 (30:38):
I think that might be a little less likely, but
I don't think there's any question that he's coaching for
his job, and that Jeffrey Lourie is very aware of
the trajectory of his franchise.

Speaker 3 (30:48):
And you know, we've seen since he got rid of.

Speaker 9 (30:51):
Andy Reid that that that that LORII has a pretty
good feel for these things.

Speaker 7 (30:56):
You know.

Speaker 9 (30:57):
I think you could argue that he went in too
early on Chip Kelly. He'd won two ten games two
years in a row, and then the bottom fell to out,
fell out, but it was his first year building the
team for himself and and Lourie got rid of him,
probably a little too fast, maybe, But then he hires
Doug Peterson. Doug Peterson goes to the Super Bowl in
his second year, same thing with Doug. Like I think

(31:17):
a lot of people would argue that he had a
quick cook with Doug Peterson, hires Nick Sirianni. They go
to the Super Bowl in Sirianni's second year, So we've
seen the quick cook, We've seen the feel that Lowie
has for his team. Clearly he's unnoticed based on the
makeup of the staff, and you know, I think Howie
Roseman's connections to Belichick, and then the possibility that they

(31:37):
could go and get Frabel. I think put Syrian Sirianni
in a precarious place at the end of the year
at least, and I think it's unlikely, but maybe sooner.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
So this is an interesting one. You look at Detroit's talent,
a plus Green Bay, San Francisco, just in the even Philadelphia,
theres a lot of dudes. I mean Chicago, Yeah, they
got dudes. Dallas isn't close, and you don't go. You

(32:12):
don't bridge the gap from where Dallas is to Green
Bay or Detroit. You got to take a big swing.
And Jerry made his fortune as an oil man taking
big swings. I think trading They're not getting rid of
CD or Dak. I think trading Mike is on the table.
They Albert. The NFC for two years was down. Now

(32:32):
the Bears have a quarterback, Washington has a quarterback. Like
I look around this at this conference, they're not even close.
Forget the league, they're not close in the NFC. What's
the big swing for Dallas in the next year?

Speaker 3 (32:47):
I think it's with a coach now.

Speaker 9 (32:50):
I think if Mike McCarthy doesn't make the playoffs, obviously
that probably be it for him. And I think it's
instructive to go back and look like when Jerry took
his big swings as a coach with head coaches when
he first got there, and he needed to establish credibility
right and you know, he tried to do that through

(33:12):
doing it a different way by hiring Jimmy Johnson.

Speaker 3 (33:14):
And then it was in two.

Speaker 9 (33:15):
Thousand and three he was embarrassed coming out of the
day of Campeo era. They had been five and eleven
three years in a row, and he was trying to
build a new stadium, which meant he needed to re
establish his credibility again locally, and he did that by
bringing in Bill Parcells, a move that no one thought
he would make because he's been such a controlling owner
over the course of his time there. I wonder if

(33:37):
you're in the same sort of spot. And you know,
I think the thing with the local radio host yesterday,
some of these outbursts we've seen over the last few months,
I think it's been a little out of character, and
it does make me wonder is Jerry starting to feel
the heat and the pressure of the spot.

Speaker 3 (33:56):
That he's in and having to win in Dallas and the.

Speaker 9 (33:59):
Money that he spent on Ceedee Lamb and Dak Prescott
and how leveraged he is to win with the guys
that are on the roster right now.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
And how do you combat that? Well, you combat that
with a big swing.

Speaker 9 (34:12):
And so this is another one that I think Belichick
has his eyes on, and another one where you know,
you could look at it and say, this is an
owner seeking credibility again. This is an owner who feels embarrassed.
This is an owner who's looking to put his franchise
back on that pedestal. Not the Cowboys ever need much
help when it comes to attention, but Bill Belichick would

(34:34):
give them that credibility again. And Bill Belichick would probably
give them the ability to manage some of these things
and make a decision on Michael Parsons whether you trade
him or sign him.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
Long term, and then wind and then.

Speaker 9 (34:48):
Go and build a middle class that can help those
guys out, you know, because that's what they need right now.
They don't need stars, they need a strong middle class.
They need defensive tackles, they need off ball linebackers Overshawn
looks like he's gonna be a pretty good one.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
You know.

Speaker 9 (35:03):
They need their offensive line reworked a little bit. They
need foot soldiers. They have the big pieces, you know,
and Bill Belichick's always been really good at building that
part of the team. And again, he can give Jerry
Jones the credibility that maybe the franchises starting to lose
a little bit with them not having been to an
NFC title game in twenty seven years. And so I

(35:24):
think if this thing keeps going the way that it's
gone over the first six weeks of the season, I
think Belichick to Dallas would be in play. And I'm sorry,
I don't mean to put Bill on I don't mean
to put Bill with every TEAMFC.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
East, but it sort of feels that that's the way
some of these things are going.

Speaker 1 (35:38):
Yeah. No, I think you answer the question what's the
big swing, it's Belichick because it personnel wise, and you
can't watch the Packers, the Lions, or the Niners. I
mean Minnesota, now that's some of the Minnesota.

Speaker 3 (35:52):
I mean, Minnesota's gonna be out of the woods after
this year.

Speaker 9 (35:54):
When it comes to all the financial stuff, like they
I think what's most impressive about the Vikings is is
they let go of maybe the two most impactful players
the last decade.

Speaker 3 (36:06):
All due respect to Justin Jefferson.

Speaker 9 (36:07):
Who's only been there for four years, but two such
important pieces to the franchise over the last ten years,
one on each side of the ball, dan Neil Hunter
on defense, Kirk Cousins on offense, and now they have
young answers at both younger answers at both positions. Jonathan
Gernard comes in from Houston, they bring in Andrew van
Ginkel from Minnesota to replace and Dallas Turner to replace

(36:31):
to replace Danil Hunter. And then on offense, they've got
Sam Darnold and JJ McCarthy getting a lot younger at quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (36:37):
So it's really really.

Speaker 9 (36:39):
Impressive what Minnesota's done. And I look at them as
a team that's sort of in their transition year right now,
could be ready to fly coming out of this year.

Speaker 1 (36:45):
Albert Breer Monday Morning, quarterback, as Olas, I know you're
you're devastated by what happened to Ohio State, but they're
gonna be just fine. They're gonna beat Purdue. I guarantee
you that all those you know there's a lot of
those doormats coming up, so just take a d breath.
You're gonna be okay.

Speaker 9 (37:01):
And Buck Island, we've got big dude kickoff on the
second against Penn State. That one might be might be
mildly challenging Nebraska too.

Speaker 1 (37:09):
Yeah, Nebraska's sneaky good. All right, Albert, good seeing you.

Speaker 7 (37:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
I think I think they're gonna beat Penn State. That
that wide out game is gonna be crazy. That's gonna
be good again. At Fox, we've made a new corporate mantra.
We only broadcast the really big good games. Matt's Dodgers tonight.

Speaker 5 (37:29):
Just don't don't have a lot of Jets on the network,
which probably says a lot of Jets.

Speaker 1 (37:33):
Will be just fine. I love the Rams this week.
I love the Jets. Wow, well, I haven't had the
only game this past week I loved. I told you
was Green Bay over.

Speaker 4 (37:47):
Her If you did what was it three and one
last week? Which team let you down?

Speaker 3 (37:50):
I forgot?

Speaker 7 (37:51):
I had them.

Speaker 1 (37:52):
I had the Bills beating the Jets, but the Jets
and the points I tried to play. I got cute
with it, that's one word for it. I got a
little cute. Okay, I'm done talking today. Dave Roberts, Joel Klatt,
Albert Breer. We'll try to top it tomorrow. Probably can't.

(38:12):
I can't wait for tonight. It's the herd.
